>As always, you could check Einstein's data at any time: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

Your name is Heather Leery, and you're not dead.
You should be. You really, really should be.
Unconscious and around you were Isaac, Alex, and Max, while still up was Ellie.
The Void Queen, dead, was lying ahead of you, blue-black blood seeping from the stump of her head. Apparently the ion laser didn't cauterize wounds.

And then, for a long moment, you relaxed, and sat forward, eyes closing.
"You alright?" Ellie asked, and you nodded. "I thought that was going to explode."
You open your eyes again, and look down to the nuclear bomb below you, who was still chittering and laughing about wanting to explode. It seemed working...
And then you noticed that the bomb's core was missing.

Lin phased up out of the ground. He looked tired, and his skin looked a lot redder than it should. As he crawled up, as if he were climbing through mud instead of solid stone, he got to his feet.
His left hand had black skin, long, unhealthy red lines reaching up his arm.
"Well." He said, and struggled not to vomit. "Good thing I got down there in time."
"Lin!" Ellie called. "Are you okay?"
"That thing I pulled out really burned my hand." He said- he didn't sound okay at all, as if he was nauseous, dizzy, and in pain all at once. "It's phased somewhere in the stone, now."
>>
>>25156376
"You saved us! You could have just moved a few of the explosive lenses out of alignment though."
>>
>>25156376
"Okay, stay calm. You're irradiated really badly. We need to get you back to the station. They can cure it."
>>
>>25156376
how abouts we get the gang away from the potentially unshielded malfunctioning nuclear bomb and get lin healed up?
>>
>>25156376
"Dammit, I'm the only one allowed to have the threat of dying of radiation poisoning."
<Status report, Void Queen neutralised, Maximilian is K.O.'d, Lin has a bad case of radiation poisoning.>
"Drink lots of water."
>>
>>25156376
"That was a nuclear core. You just saved everyone in a radius of several hundred miles. And you're probably so irradiated right now your DNA looks less like a helix and more like a plate of spaghetti."
>>
>>25156422
>Maximilian, Alex and Isaac
fixed that for you
>>
>>25156430
>DNA looks less like a helix and more like a plate of spaghetti

that would be a vast genetic improvement to a double helix

also not how radiation damage works, but heather does not know that, she should, but doesn't
>>
>>25156376

"Lin, you're badly irradiated, stay calm."

<Status report, Lin is Irradiated, Isaac, Max and Alex are unconscious, Max and Lin need urgent medical attention>
<please be alright.>
>>
>>25156376
"You grabbed the core, Lin? That is...insane. And insanely brave, but mostly just insane."

Broadcast (To everyone BUT Lin): <The Void Queen is dead, but Lin has something like forty-eight hours to live without Theta or Devourer. Help would be appreciated.>
>>
""That was a nuclear core. You just saved everyone in a radius of several hundred miles." You say. "Okay, stay calm. You're irradiated really badly. We need to get you back to the station. They can cure it."
"I figure that we're so far down it just would've killed us. And killed us super hard." He said, and sat- almost fell- back at one of the chamber's walls, sitting down. The entire chamber shook, as if starting to crumble, but it stayed intact.

Jilly reached out again, and you were all connected once more. Whole.
<Status report. Void queen neutralized, Max, Alex, and Isaac are KO'd, and Lin has a bad case of radiation poisoning.>
<Shit.> Theta said, and a moment later, he appeared with Robin.
"Shit." Theta said again. "Give me your hand."
"Alright." Lin said, and raised it. Theta put his own hand on it, and started to focus.
"I'm going to need a lot of focus for this. Robin, take everyone topside." He said.
Robin nodded, and took your hand, and touched Isaac. Next thing you knew, you were sitting next to Summer, on top of Surya.
Next to Summer, and surrounded by knights, two trolls, and a dragon, complete with a rider.
"You're okay!" She said, and pulled you into a hug. A moment later, Max and Ellie appeared as well, Robin vanishing again quickly, and finally, Alex.

You looked around, and saw the remains of the fortress. It was almost more of a massive stone sinkhole, now, having caved in almost entirely when it collapse.
"Will he be okay?" Ellie asked, worried.

"Theta's good at what he does. I'm sure Lin'll be fine." You say. "We need to figure out what the situation in orbit and everywhere else is right now. When Theta is done with Lin, he can chek Alex."
"Okay." Ellie said.
<The situation in orbit is simple. The Demiurg and Kliktik have stopped fighting.> Jilly said. <Omnissiah has control of the skies, and he's helping them land.>
<Everyone, Role call. Say Aye if you're still breathing.>
You got Ayes from everyone, even an absentminded one from Theta and a fevered one from Lin... except for one from Devourer.

Far, far away was Devourer, a small, black creature, quaking and vibrating.
<I'm tired.> He said, quietly, and pulsed.
>>
>>25156608

<Robin, can you retrieve my little Devi?>
>>
>>25156608

Quick! get bob to teleport into our arms, we shall rejuvenate our child with the power of HUGS!
>>
With a spare thought to Robin, she teleported away, and then appeared again, a small black creature- looking almost like a bear cub- in her hands.
"He's kind of cold." Robin said, and handed him to you. He was cold, shivering, but the moment you held him close in a hug, his skin started to warm up again, quickly.

You close your eyes and relax, as the knights and dragon start making their way back into the rift. Summer's head bobbed, and then she shot you a grin.
"I did pretty good there, didn't I?"

>>

fantasy is good if you have wizard support for your troops
>>
>>25156698
>Personally, I think she did a damn good job.
Hey, I did say she was amazing. Her brute force almost matched the Void Queen's brute force and made things a lot easier.
>>
Speaking of which, let's also reach out to the Klikik or however you spell it.

I'm sure they're all very confused right now.
>>
You pull her in a hug as well. "You did fantastic! You kept so many of them at bay, and you don't look tired at all!"
"Well, I probably could've done some more things if I knew I had the energy to spare." She said. "I expected to have to fight the Void Queen personally, so I was saving most of my power up. Kind of a letdown, actually."

You hug Devourer more closely, and he grew warmer- and started to melt in your hands, losing cohesiveness. You started to worry- until he resolidified. Then you started saluting the manifested soldiers as they went back through the rift.

With a heavy thunk, Sarvesh landed down on the turf near. He was missing two limbs, and his plates were dented and cracked badly, but he was so heavily armored that it didn't seem to bother him.

"So, what do we do now?" Alex asked, his eyes fluttering open. "Void queen's dead, everyone should be fine... Just go back?"
"I guess." Ellie said.
"Damnit, more people are calling me." Robin said. "And since Theta and Anna are seperate I can't get a recharge."
She pamfed away, and came back again, with Theta and Lin.
"He'll be fine." Theta said.
>>
>>25156744
we may want to inform the UPA of the events here so they can get someone to come along and deal with the whole "sentient species enslaved for evil but now released" thing sorted, probably after they deal with all the ships VQ sent at the other planets

we should check up with mom and dad, shoot them a msg and check up on everyone else whos not here
>>
>>25156744
"That's fantastic. I guess that leaves ArmaTek and [That guy who poked Damien when he went to save Rose]."

"are we sure she's dead? I do not want to leave and some time later find out she's still out there."

so many things we need to take care of, I'm worried about what the Demiurg will do now that they're free and piloting some very advanced ships.
>>
>>25156744
"There's also the issue of the thousands of ships whose crews are probably wondering just what the hell is happening right now.

Also a new race which will probably join the UPA, I guess? Now that they're out of the Void Queen's grasp, I mean.

But I think, at least until the next supervillains shows up, we're safe."

"Are we sure she's dead? I do not want to leave, and some time later find out she's still out there." You say, as Alex started climbing out of your suit. "There's also the issue of thousands of ships whose crews are probably wondering just what the hell is happening right now."
<They're beaming messages to Omnissiah about wanting to join under his banner. The demiurg, at least.> Jilly said. <The kliktik, though, just want to go back to the surface. They're thinking strangely.> She said.
Behind you, Ellie and Lin were talking, holding hands.
"How'd you even know how to do it?"
"But yeah, Damien sent this to me." Lin said, and paper rustled. "Some kind of sketch."

"Also a new race which will probably join the UPA, I guess? Now that they're out of the Void Queen's grasp, I mean." You say. "But I think, at least until the next supervillains shows up, we're safe."

we could try to soak up a few rays of sunlight to replenish our self and then use knowledge to look at the VQ corpse.

"I still remember when he was just a ships computer and now he's a warlord *sniff* they grow up so fast."
>>
>>25156845
Maybe go check out those carvings on the wall?
>>
>>25156845
"Well, I'm sure even the Demiurg can be salvaged with Omni as an example."
>>
<I still remember when he was just a ship's computer, and now he's a warlord.> You say, and sniffle. <They grow up so fast.>
<Technically, he's the last remaining warlord that exists.> Jilly said- she sounded almost shaken. <With Devourer, Blackreach, and the Void Queen... The Demiurg are approaching extinction.>

After a moment's silence, you simply sit there, taking in the sunlight, and take a deep breath, and turn to Robin. She nodded without you having to say anything, and you were back underground. There was the Void Queen's body, the chittering bomb, and behind you were the pillars.
Robin huffed. "Gimme... a second." She said, and took a deep breath. "I mean, this isn't long range or anything, but I just keep on hopping around. At least I'm getting better."

"Right, good point." Robin said. She got to her feet again, and gave the Void Queen a touch.
The Queen- a powerful kliktik, nearly twice as large and powerful as a normal, with extra limbs... shivered, and roiled, twitching and headless- before disintegrating into smoke. She was gone.

"And I need to make a record of these pillars first-" You say, and turn back toward the entrance to the chamber, where the pillars were.

There was nothing but stone in the way, all caved in. That great chamber had been just below the fortress, while you were some distance away, through a long collapsed tunnel.
"Guess we can't look at those pillars, I guess." Robin said.
"I'm more worried that she's alive as some sort of psionic ghost or something."

Presumably since the Void Queen was a particularly potent kliktik, and she was insinuating that she was a god, there will probably be some surviving members of the species that would've been some sort of equivalent of the priesthood.

Could probably get more information about the ancient carvings by communicating with them, as they'd probably have passed down stories and/or information about the carvings in their leader/deity's chambers.

It's not going to be as reliable as actually Knowing the etchings themselves (in that it'll probably be super embellished, considering that it's probably some sort of prophecy the VQ used to get the ball rolling), but we can get at least somewhat of a better idea of what the deal was.

This might even be BETTER than Knowledge in some respects in that we would get the story they were operating off of, rather than the actual truth behind the pictures on the pillars. Help explain better what had the VQ so adamant about trying to get rid of all of us.
>>
<Have you met others like you before, then?>
<No.> Devourer said, quietly. <... Yes. And no.>
"I might be able to retrocog my memory of those pillars later." You say, and turn to Robin. "Well, tell me when you're ready to jump again, Robin. Need to start repairs on Surya."
"Ready." She said, and grabbed your shoulder.
You appeared in front of Surya- and someone else was working on it, repairing it. Mech drones, it looked. Next to Surya was Defense Ship, a great, bulky steel thing, and Wyvern, with Sigma and Anna leaning on it. All around you, through the sky, ships were setting down, being helped by more drones so that they didn't burn up in the atmosphere despite not having shields. Kliktik climbed out, long distances off, silently staring at you and your group for a time.
Those eyes looked... awfully strange. All six sets were staring at you, of these creatures you'd fought, creatures who you'd seen kill Jilly...

And then one started approaching you, and made a low squealing noise.
"... Thank you." It said, and tapped your shoulder with a scythe.
Absentmindedly, you noticed the creature's teeth. They were rounded, not sharp. Herbivore teeth.

"I... guess we can keep it secret." You say. "May I ask why?"
"We are primitives." It said. "This technology is not ours. It was stolen from your minds. What we do know is bleedthrough from our enslaver."

"Okay." You say. "A friend of mine who came here years ago, wanted to come here to live alone, may I tell her? She found your folk pleasant."

"We were to wait, and live, and eat, and breed more numbers. That is all she wished us to do for hundreds of years, so she could have more power, drained from our minds..." It said, and hugged you again. It's long, crested head nuzzled in the crook of your neck. "They arrived. A change. She awakened, and bid us to take care of them as we could. And when she left, she... meditated on the two-leg creatures."

It paused. "She found the existence of other beings like her, out in the starry sky. None were as strong as her. She saw all this world as a mote of dust, and... went... mad. Here she was, stewing in her madness... Until she met the unmaker's mind, far from here. And went... Angry. Saw the death of all she would ever do."

It simply hugged you again- you got the impression that the creatures hugged as well, for whatever reason.

<Can we go back to the original station? I miss my workshop.>
<Maybe by tonight.> Max said. <We still need to arrange things.>
You let go of the creature, and it paused a moment, rushing off. A moment later, it came back... With a fruit, skewered on its scythe.

"These are what your male parent consumed." It said, the telepathy aching slightly as it struggled to translate properly. "Your blinking lights may clone it, or you may eat it, if you wish."
And then, leaving the dark red fruit in your hands- which was a long, pear-shaped thing, with a strange texture and white speckles- it turned and ran away, as the rest of the kliktik started gathering in a group. The demiurg, meanwhile, lifted off, and shot into bubble drive, off into the remaining vestiges of demiurg space. More and more kliktik were arriving- apparently the ones headed to UPA worlds had to turn around- and started to land.

"You can both rest. I can pilot." Omnissiah said. You nodded, and closed your eyes.

Some time later, you woke up as the ship shook, and something hissed. You were back at the second station again, a few hours before dinner. Max was awake, pacing, and Ellie and Lin were doing more talking, holding hands- And then they kissed.
"D'aw, those kids." Alex said, and chuckled, climbing out of his chair and stretching. "I'm off to go get something to eat. Then talk with Jilly. See you."

"Still friends?"
>>
>>25158997
>"Can I still kick Hound in the dick?"

This.
>>
>>25158991
>Exa has made it clear that the other characters have their own stories.

Exabyte made this up a couple threads ago when he said he was going to think up a way to deal with the Anna situation.

This isn't really a long term plan.
>>
>>25158932
Wow, I was annoyed back when the Hound incident happened due to lack of warning IMO, but mostly annoyed at anons causing shitstorms. This could work in a regular non-CYOA work (although honestly? 'I'm not gay' is about the worst possible plot convention ever), or if Anna didn't have a huge following and most readers were ready to turn her down anyway, but as is...yeah, this is retarded.
>>
>>25158957
Luna's less interested in a long-term relationship than we are. She's a great lay and good for some flings, but wouldn't be a good girlfriend, especially with her work schedule.
>>
>>25158932
"...Okay then. Want some weird alien fruit?"
>>
>>25158932
So that leaves
Summer - craycray. Sticking your metaphorical dick in crazy is never a good idea.
Damien - Flingy, not really a "romantic" option
Sarvesh - Crabcake. Best husbando
Max - the knot
>>

>>
>>25158932
Well, we could always turn into a dude.
>>
>>25158932
Hah, I bet this is happening because we didn't talk to her at some inconsequential time like when we didn't with Hound. Pretty boring as far as thing go.
>>
>>25158932
Fuck this. If you hadn't presented her as an LI on the level of the others or obviously made this up as you went, I'd only be offended that you used the old shitty 'experimenting lol' trope, instead of pissed that you're vetoing Anna.

I vote we go and cry on our roommate's fuzzy belly.

Really Exabyte.

Really.
>>

Rest head on hands, look glum.

"Shame. I like you. Cute, funny, awkward in the best sort of way... But I guess if that's how you feel, I'm not going to try to change you."

Attempt to maintain composure, tear up, but keep smiling.

"Still want that apology, though. And before you mention, it doesn't even need saying that we can still be friends."
>>
>>25159050
She's not being vetoed, more like in order to continue the relationship we need theta to make us into a dude.

I'm honestly confused by this. You saw the drama caused by the Hound incident, and by the romance discussions...and THIS was your choice? How could you possibly think vetoing one of the most popular (possibly THE most) romance options this late in was a better idea than just holding a vote? At least with a vote people would just rage at other anons, and concede the lack of better ways to play things.
>>
>>25158932
Is this, like, your way of getting back at your players for all the relationship drama?
>>

We're taking it out on Exabyte for shitty plot twists.
>>

>>

Yeah, that's so much better. Gender-bending is the worst possible shit, and anyway changing the MC's gender this far into a quest with little warning is the most stupid option possible.
>>
>>25158932

Honestly, of all the options I can think of for how this relationship could have turned out, this one is surprisingly satisfying. Beats an anticlimactic yes/no.

How does it beat that? At least with a vote there's some agency, what possible satisfaction is there for Annafags here? Not even considering the fact that Exa basically strung us along since the Hound thing until now, I could have quit reading this stupid shit if he did it back then at least (quitting because of this twist, not losing Anna specifically, since Sarvesh is cool).
>>
"I'm not going to lie, that hurts a bit." You say. "But I appreciate your honesty."
"That... That wasn't the reason I cheated on you." She said. "That was something... more."
You sigh. "Can I still kick Hound in the dick?"

You put your head on your hands.

Railroading is forcing the players to do something regardless of what they actually want to do. Except we did do those things. Hell, we even had casual sex during that span.
>>
>Here's a minor out of character bit.
Alright, let's talk, even at risk of derailing the thread even more.
Things are pretty simple. Namely there are Anna's issues, which she's had all quest. Specifically, issues with people and how they communicate. Due to the way she's been raised, Anna craves intimacy, and I'll give you guys a timeline.

After her father was taken, she was stuck with the doctor for a few years. Then she went to blackreach, and met hound. And ended up fucking him. That sated her craving for intimacy/love/whateverthehell, and then she moved on after he cheated on her.
Then she was on the station. Where the only male human was Damien, who she personally hated. On the other side, there was Heather, who worked to befriend her, make nice, and it was soon obvious to Anna that Heather was interested in her. She said that she wasn't gay, but then again, on a mostly subconscious level, and thought she had to to be accepted.
It was only a day and a week before she realized that she wasn't after all, and couldn't change herself.

I mean, if you guys truly want, I can retcon this entire bit and Anna's sexuality. I am writing this for you guys after all.

>>
>>25159708
No-one's complaining about Anna fucking Heather over. Let's look at the facts: Quest starts, people are introduced, many of them are confirmed romantic partners, including Anna, by Exa himself. Things go along, Damien gets some loving, people like Sarvesh, Anna eventually gets into a relationship, then a day in-story later, Exabyte drops the Hound thing, which was barely telegraphed (her being into him still was ambiguous - it could EASILY be read as her feeling so betrayed by him, given her personality, that she couldn't stand seeing him), and there was no reason to think she'd even meed Hound given that she explicitly left, and we were given other plots to do, but it still happened. Exabyte at this point states that no other romancable character had a similarly big thing lined up in their romance, already making Annafags feel put-upon since some anons are constantly shitting on her now. Still things move on, go back to normal or just-about and people who like Anna calm down and are willing to forget the whole thing. And then this happens, with who other than Anna. At this point no character ruled out for romance has had any real traction (only Sarvesh And SUmmer has had some, and even Damien is theoretically open even if people don't seem to care). Are you REALLY surprised that people who want Anna feel fucked over, when they not only get hit with huge romance-ruiners twice while the other LIs have zero, but they also have to deal with literally getting turned down by the word of god when the quest is almost over?
>>
>>25159788
Okay, since it's actually coming to a vote - and I cannot fucking BELIEVE it has gotten bad enough to make you break narrative to say this, Exa - my vote is for picking up what little is left of our (the players') collective dignity and continuing on; Heather may well have rejection issues, but the plot is the plot and is not a pathetic attempt at railroading as some of you seem to think.

Well, now that you've actually given us the choice I have no fucking clue which way to go. While I would love to persue the Anna route, it kind of seems cheap.

Talk about decision paralysis. 1 for retcon, 2 for full steam ahead.

Furthermore, doesn't this whole thing even make you a little bit mad? The fact that you're having to offer a retcon, I mean. Is immunity to anger a required QM trait? If I were you right now, I would be rolling my eyes so hard right now that they'd fly into orbit.
>>
>>25159788
If we are going to vote I say : Move on and let Anna be. She made her point that she's not into girls. And Exa has his right as the QM to write the characters' personalities including their orientation.

While that is a fair point, my outlook is that the posts in a thread reflect how a character feels. Since everyone in here is mad, Heather should be mad, but that's just my outlook on quest consensus, you do have a fair point.
>>
>Alright. I mean, I did string you guys along for quite a long time, which is why I was willing to change continuity so drastically,

"We're still friends though, no matter what." You declare.
"I know." She said, and nodded.
"I'm not going to try to change you, and if I couldn't turn you gay, nothing will." You say. "Mind explaining the hound thing, at least?"
"...My therapist's saying that... Well... That I do things to try to be... accepted, or something. That I wasn't hugged enough as a kid or something. I think I just... I don't know. He just wanted to talk, and then we were drinking... It just moved on, and... I didn't want him angry at me."
She paused, and then opened her palms. Sparks shot from them.
"Wooo, fireworks." She said, and met your eyes, rather subdued. "... I'm sorry. For not understanding myself, for leading you on, for making promises, for breaking them."
>>
>>25159788
Retcon. This was a fucking awful idea. The storyline itself is horrendous, and is so frequent yet loathed by anyone even remotely interested in stories surrounding bi/gay characters that I'm surprised you'd think of it in the first place. Waiting this many threads before dropping it, especially after the Hound thing (which makes me think this wasn't some grand plan all along), just makes it far worse.

>>
>>25160121
Exa can safely ignore about half the votes anytime it looks like a bunch of anons are against a relationship. Not sure if he actually will though.
>>
>>25160112
Because he just invalidated the Annafags in the exact way he wanted to avoid.

"I don't think I'm ready for anything, and won't be for a long time, maybe years, it wouldn't be fair for you to wait for me."

That would've done it just fine.
>>
>>25160143
And that would be railroading!
>>
>>25159935
Why on EARTH would you drag it on this long? Surely the Hound thing, hell the fact that Anna was so popular in the first place, would have clued you in that maybe a development like this shouldn't wait until the quest is close to ending, and people have gotten attatched to the characters. Hell, the Hound twist actually made me like the Anna romance even more since it meant some actual consequences and difficulties that quests usually avoid completely in romance, and now that's all down the drain. And instead we have...Sarvesh and Summer, who got shafted from their storylines because people were focusing on romancing Anna. What?
>>
>>25160143
I'm going to samefag every Relationship ever, now what?

The best was to salvage this is to make Anna not gay. Don't retcon anything, but just have this another "emotional phase" for her, where she thinks she's not gay because she can't feel any attraction over he overpowering feelings of guilt. That way all the time spent on her isn't wasted.

All of them have had some story-time, but none of them have progressed their relationship with Heather at all, and I'm really disappointed that if this Anna thing had to happen, it didn't do so around thread 50 so there was time to get invested in another romance.
>>
>>25160321
>Yep, pretty much. From that time I said that locking in wasn't going to be a 'thing', I tried to stay neutral to everyone's opinions.

>>25160357
>Don't worry. My next one won't have any waifuing at all, and after that I'll be doing a sequel to Vale Quest, where the waifu was already chosen.

"Hey, Omni." You say. "I hope you don't mind. I just had a very depressing conversation, so I'm just going to sit here and ear hallucinagenic alien fruit until I start seeing fun colors."
"I see." He said.
"Hard to think that we actually won this one." You say, and take another bite. "The VQ is dealt with, all that's left is ArmaTek and honestly without Delta I'm not very scared of them."
"They still have plenty of supplies that Delta has made." Omnissiah said.
You nod, and sigh, rubbing your hands across your face. Your palms and cheeks started to tingle. "What do you plan on doing with the remaining Demiurg? Mr. Warlord?"
"I have a few options in front of me." Omnissiah said. "I could leave them there, to reproduce and split into squads and warlords once more. Or I could have them all killed. Or perhaps see if there's a way to teach them to reproduce through science. Perhaps surgery."
>>
>>25160414
>and all the other LI have been well developed over the quest, so it's not like it would be completely baseless.
That's the thing, they've had plenty of development, but they don't feel like LIs anymore to me. I was voting for Damien at first, but it wouldn't feel right anymore now that Anna's taste in personality have been established.
>>
>>25160418
Perhaps, but pulling the rug out from under our feet when we believe that something is locked in is not really fair either.
>>
>>25160432
>Ahem, 2 foot long prehensile cock.
that's actually a downside as bigger isn't better after a certain point.
>>
>>25160439
"As long as they aren't still planning the conquest and destruction of all other sentient life, I will leave that decision up to you."
>>
>>25160439
"I'd go for the latter option, see if you can teach them goodness and kindness, empathy perhaps, give them an opportunity to reproduce without violence.

Maybe they can come back one day in peace instead of in violence."
>>
>>25160439
would giving them all an improved sense of empathy help?
>>
>>25160438
I can feel that. There might be another 30ish threads in this one, though. There might be a chance.
And as much as it hurts, I would argue that a failed romantic plot is still a concluded romantic plot. Even if the conclusion wasn't what we wanted.
>>
>>25160439
"How about you govern them? Be their only Warlord. Watch over them not to do anything stupid while breeding."
>>
>>25160432
he is literally a horrible being

why would you ever want to fuck an alien
>>
A way I can see this resolving is to have an ooc vote about which LI to go for, then Exa having that LI (And that LI only) show more interest in Heather.
But that won't work because we can't have an ooc vote without a million samefag votes.
>>
>>25160464
>Prehensile
It can fold over itself and do all kinds of interesting things. Didn't you read the smut?
>>
>>25160483
You're damn right it won't.

I'll samefag Sarvesh to hell and back.
>>
>>25160414
Yeah, Heather would love to have a zero-drama relationship. I sure as fuck don't give a shit about reading it though. As mentioned, drama-free relationships can work in a story, but generally by letting other parts handle the drama, and giving you time to get invested in the romance, and as far as I see it Exa's options is either rush it entirely while dealing with ArmaTek, or spend the next howevermany quests being as aimless as the end of Sorc Quest with little going on other than character interaction. Personally I'm hoping for no more romance and the plot rounded up in the next few threads, as I was by far most invested in Anna and don't really give a shit at this point.
>>
>>25160439
Talk to Theta, he can probably fix them.
>>
>>25160481
Because this isn't 40k and we don't have to hate the xeno.
>>
>>25160464
Yeah, but prehensile means an awful lot, he can do things that Damien can only dream of. It can wriggle, move, and do oh so many wonderful things.

>>25160481
Because the xeno is a buff hot alien crab dude.
>>
>>25160439
I never read Vale Quest as literally nothing about the premise or first thread interested me (especially the generic as fuck MC, good lord) so I'll be skipping that one at least.
>>
>>25160439

"is there anything we can do to make them less inclined to constant fighting? maybe some sort of transgenes treatment?"
>>
Well, I'll be tipping my vote towards no relationships at all.

Sleeping around, sure, but no relationships.
>>
>>25160504
but the centaurs are legitimately horrifying

the nagala, yeah, they're alright because they transgene, but fuck. cmon man. sarvesh is pure repulsion
>>
>>25160511

>>

>>25160490

>>
>>25160527

>>
>>25160511
Exabyte himself proclaimed Vale Quest his worst quest ever, I really don't understand the desire for a sequel. I'll probably be skipping that one too, I just couldn't get invested in VQ before, I dropped in and out before quitting it entirely about halfway through.
>>
>>25160524
Humanoid torso located on a crablike frame. Not that horrifying.
>>
>>25160524
I was cool with Sarvesh until we got the drawing/3d of him, and I saw his face.
And I was repulsed.
>>
>>25160544
No, really, it is horrifying.
>>
>>25160539
Only in a few threads.
>>25160543
Then you missed most of the "It gets better" parts.
>>
>>25160510
>buff hot alien crab dude.
not if the pic we have of him is anything to go by. buff I can grant you but not hot
>>
>>25160554
Why would I care if it gets better whn I have no interest in reading it? Just do NFC again, or maybe Sorc.
>>
"I'd go for the latter option." You say. "See if you can teach them goodness and kindeness. Empathy, perhaps, and give them an opportunity to reproduce without violence."
"There are few enough in number that they could be theoretically transgened to reproduce as hermaphrodites. Perhaps even with different instincts." Omnissiah said. "I will have to learn geneweaving. The costs would be incredible, though."

You took another bite of the fruit, and it was mostly gone. Your forehead tingled a bit, and then Devourer crawled out of your shirt.
"I could help as well." He said, swelling and pulsing. Your vision went strange, almost as if you were looking through a lense.
>>
>>25160546
It's the eyes and head shape, I think. It's right at the edge of the uncanny valley.

Omni, that sounds like a great idea, money isn't really that much of a problem considering how we can Manifest pretty much anything you need either through Summer or Delta.

Devi, if you want to help out Omni feel free, I think the two of you could do a lot of good stuff together.

My little kids, they grow up so fast."

I think we ought to drop by and visit Sarvesh, we need food.
>>
>>25160546
I've never been interested in Sarvesh/Summer/Jilly as a romance option really, not human enough for me - too bad given recent developments. At least I can be confident that I am indeed not a furry. Since I also find Damien pretty boring and Alex unlikeable I kinda landed on the Anna train by method of elimination more than anything else (I didn't actually like her as a LI that much until after the Hound thing).
>>

"Alright, now we're getting somewhere!

"... Hey, Devourer." You say. "Did you know you look all lensy?"
"... No?"
"I'm going to stare at you for a while. You should be soft and fluffy."
Devourer deliberated for a moment, and then became a puppy.
"This... is the best fruit. Ever. of all time."
You set the seeds aside, and take your last bite of the fruit. Everything swam, more, and you grinned. "Wow, hallucinagens are kicking in, I think. Omni, that sounds like a great idea. Money isn't really that much of a problem considering how we can Manifest pretty much anything you need either through Summer or Delta."
You smoosh Devourer's head, and his fluff promptly grew teeth and started nibbling on your hand. You stared at it, and when you blinked, it was normal.
"Alright! Now we're getting somewhere! Devi, if you want to help Omni feel free, I think the two of you could do a lot of good stuff together."

And then, not quite sure where you're going, you turn around, and leave Surya, making way for the cafeteria. There you were, vision blurry, and you saw only one person there.

You weren't sure who they were. They kept... changing. "Hey." Damien said, before his face was quite suddenly replaced with Summer's human manifestation, who grinned at you, and then turned into Sarvesh.
"What's up?" Sarvesh asked. "Want something?"

>>
>>25160725
Well on one hand you make a good point re: blandness of romance, on the other he's barely a character. Fuck, I only just realized how much time was wasted on stupid romance interactions in this quest, there are like 2 characters I actually like (Sarvesh, Robin, liked Anna before this thread) while NFC and Sorc I liked almost the entire main cast - the LI dudes in Sorc were pretty boring since they were introduced too late and we kinda bland, but the rest of the casts were great (and I never read Vale). But I really don't give enough of a shit about the characters in PQ now that the VQ is dead and the only developed romance is gone to be enthusiastic about reading.

"Sure! Which one?" He asked, and got to his feet.
You rubbed your cheeks again.
"I ate strange hallucinogens! Can I have some ice cream?"
"Right." He said, and soon enough, you had some ice cream, shaped like small planets. This scoop was a gas giant, this one was the planet earth, this one was Heaven's Jewel...
"Minor psychoactive effects, he said." You say. "Putting it into storage, he said. Look how that turned out?" You giggle. "I need tacos."
"That's weird." He said, and continued talking for a while. It just became droning, babbling, and he gave you a taco. One that you swore smelled like peanutbutter.
"Are you Sarvesh?" You ask. "Can I ride on you while eating?!"
"...Sure, you can ride on me." He said, and he was Sarvesh once again. You found yourself climbing up on his back, and sat there, leaning on his torso. "I was just heading to the rec room." He said. "The Rhos are there, I think. I was going to play with them. Want to come with?"

Personally I thought both you and the readers spent far too much time and effort on romance in this quest. I'd be of that opinion even if all the time spent on Anna wasn't wasted, as even before this thread I realized that the progression of the threads had made me so invested in all the romance arguments/discussions that besides the romance with Anna I didn't feel very interested or invested in any of the other characters, unlike Sorc/NFC where I enjoyed most of the main cast. And I really feel most of it came from your decision to not just let people pick a LI and stick with them throughout (maybe doing it Sorc Quest style if you want to delay the romance), and instead go with open season, as after that the quest just really felt it was 70% romance, 25% main plot, and 5% non-romance characterization. Well predictably, Anna was the only character I ended up interested/invested in, since she actually got some nuance in her character, and in fact your approach actively made me like the other big LIs less since they invited so many arguments and I felt they weren't the characters they could be since you had to keep them open for Heather just in case, but never actually let them get anywhere. I've been rereading Sorc Quest the past few days, and the characters are about ten times more appealing and interesting than Psion Quest's IMO. At this point I think I'll just wait for your next quest, not because I'm raging but because I'm honestly not interested in any of the characters or relationships at all.

It really wasn't. We got maybe five threads of romancing Anna. Out of 81.
>>
>>25161800
I think people just don't like the idea of romancing another character right now because they're still mad about Anna, whatever they may say.

Give it about three or four threads, and there will be plenty trying to get Heather a new LI.
>>

>>
>>25161837
>>25161875
It really really was. I'm not talking about Anna - I actually quit reading the quest before Heather and Anna got together because the constant romantic interaction with seemingly every character just got too boring for me, and I started rereading after seeing an actual relationship started with hopes that would reduce the focus on romance.

For a good example, look at the secondary group of characters that are plot-relevant but not in focus: the clones vs the birds (not counting Kaliel/Raziel/Ezekiel as they were part of the main party). Both groups are special, are easily separated by their traits, and start off as enemies before reasonably quickly becoming allies.

But the clones don't do shit. Other than Robin pining after Rose, which has been a very recent development and only briefly mentioned before that, the clones don't do shit when we're not interacting with them or talking to them. They just sit around on the station, with no obvious ambitions or big interests, with the only one doing anything interesting being Delta - who just showed up, and his character is super-boring anyway.

The birds were incredibly varied even discarding the main three, they really felt like they were doing their own things, traveling and interacting without Ishelda prodding at them, Gehenna and Ragnarok were repeating villains, Azariel felt like an important character plot-wise throughout his appearances, etc. The clones have showed no initiative, no characterization (except Robin somewhat) besides their initial traits and general friendliness for most - do people HONESTLY have any kind of grasp on who Sigma is supposed to be at all? They just sit around the station doing jack shit until Heather talks to them/there's combat. And for the main group Kaliel/Raziel/Ezekiel were all far more interesting and active characters than anyone in Psion Quest.
>>
>>25162130
There is only so much that Exa can fit in though, you know.

If we spent more time around the clones, they would have bigger parts to play, just like Max.

Also, are you seriously saying that Robin hasn't had much screentime? Come on, she was one of the most noticeable presences in many many threads.
>>
I still chuckle over the fact that Robin is Clone!Kaliel
>>
>>25162159
She's had plenty of screentime. What does she do? Before the Rose thing (which makes her better) all she did was interact with Heather from time to time, with her only characterization being perv->can deal but can't take it->actually I'm hung up on Rose. What does she show interest in doing with her life? What does she do that isn't entirely dependent on interacting with Heather/Rose? The Birds all had their own interests that weren't about other people, and weren't explored from a romantic standpoint. Sigma is a non-character, Isaac showed some promise but it never went anywhere and is currently even less of a character than Sigma, Theta is literally just a *wacky gender/species-bending* machine, Lambda had a compelling origin story but hasn't got anything after being saved, I could go on.
>>
>>25162222
How do you know what they're doing when they aren't interacting with Heather?
Exactly. You don't. Because they don't report everything they do to Heather.
>>
>>25162222
Did you notice last thread when Isaac said he and Sigma needed to talk about something, and got evasive about it?

No?

Shut up then. If we don't follow up on potential plot hooks, you can't then bitch when we miss all the things they're doing.
>>
>>25162238
Wow, that's a great argument. But you ARE aware that this is a story, yes? The saying is 'show, don't tell', not 'forget about showing or telling, that shit's for plebs'. Even if they were amazing characters off-screen, that doesn't change the fact that they're one-dimensional as fuck and impossible to give a shit about (Robin possibly excepted) in Psion Quest, the story which we are being told.
>>
>>25162130
There's something different about that, though. Namely that the birds weren't a secondary group of characters. They were the primary characters, other than Ishelda and Grayson. Fellwind and Lewin left almost a fourth through the quest and never returned, while the birds were there the entire time.

That said, though, they are boring characters, but that's also because they get little screentime, save Robin. Jilly has the same problem, to a lesser degree, and has all quest.

There was also the fact that I handled them worse off than I did with the birds on SorQ, and that the pacing is so drastically different, and slower. In Psion Quest, it's only been a month, but the first section of sorceress quest was multiple months. Everything is at a slower, more placid pace, and I'm not doing as well overall as I did with Sorceress Quest.
>>
>>25162273
A single example of possible (possible mind you) character development after dozens of threads without anything, towards the end of the quest, doesn't disprove my point at all. The birds were pretty much all engaging and fleshed out characters by the timeskip of Sorc Quest, which happened in thread 40. Thread 40 of Psion Quest was romance argument central. Even allowing for Exabyte having more posts to fit material into in Sorc Quest, there's still been plenty of time to do it, especailly since his quests generally have far more plot/interaction per thread due to his fast update style (commendable) compared to most other quests, many of which manage it fine.
>>
>>25162333
They aren't the kind of characters to just go blabbing to Heather about their day to day living. Maybe if we actually bothered to interact with them more, they'd be more interesting.
>>
>>25162333
Are you Mr TT?

You post like Mr TT.
>>
>>25162374
No idea who that is.

>>25162374
I don't agree, unless you missed my disclaimer excluding Raziel/Kaliel/Ezekiel (well I guess Azariel was big too). How were Gehenna or any of the other secondary birds bigger characters than the clones? They even showed up less. In my opinion the entire cast of Sorc Quest had more drive and definition to their characters than anyone in Psion Quest (you forgot Kristoph/Marigold for main characters by the way).

Kaliel as a LI was incredibly driven by her creation of life deal, and it was a huge part of her character, which made her feel like someone not just around to react to Ishelda doing things. It wasn't perfect, and way too much time was wasted on their relationship alone in the last ~15 or so threads, but it was something. Sarvesh and Anna have nothing except generic training to be stronger psions. Sure they have issues, but they don't have dreams and goals that we've seen except Sarvesh's generic 'see space' which, really. They have things to get over, not things to get to. They feel like characters whose purpose is to be LIs, and without that they're as uninteresting as everyone else, because their relationship with Heather seems so central to their characters. Anna's initial characterization as sickly, sullen and introvert was gone quickly, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but it wasn't because of great character development - it was literally Heather spurring her on, without her taking much initiative, and her following because love (except not really apparently, so who knows why Jilly didn't have the same effect given how friendly they were. Remember that? I barely do given how unimportant they've been in each others plots ever since).

That's my view on it.
>>
>>25162671
Anon, you put my thoughts into words.
>>
>>25162671
The timing difference is insane. These characters have been around (And free of Armatek's control) for less than an in game month (Less than 2 weeks, even.) Expecting them to all have their futures planned out and be working on them already is fucking insane. And even then, we have heard of a few of them getting shit done for themselves.
>>
>>25162699
And the birds were around for months.
>>
>>25159788
why didnt we take the retcon
>>
>>25162874
Because that's a cop out.
>>
>>25162699
That's just shifting blame from characterization to pacing though, and I blame both. Dealing with Anna's issues took 70 threads and was done through romancing her - a bog-standard 'heal the LI' plot, just like I anticipate Sarvesh (his insecurities about being too weak) and Summer (her, uh, obvious issues wrt reality) would/will be. Kaliel's main issues were dealt with over a handful of threads and done with as a friend/acquaintance through gentle support and prodding in the right direction, before the romancing even started, and her remaining ones were everything to do with her integral identity, and more importantly, her goals and dreams and passions. They also didn't hang over the relationship at every point in time before being dealt with.
>>
>>25162874
It really wouldn't have felt satisfying. I wanted the Heather/Anna thing to work, but honestly, I would've spent the rest of the quest thinking it was just kind of fake because Exabyte had to backpeddle to make it happen.

I'm more annoyed that Heather seems to be the only one who gets relationship problems, meanwhile everyone around her has either moved on or paired up in perfect relationships with no problems whatsoever.
>>
>>25162940
Which has nothing to do with the birds/clones
The birds are main characters, the clones are secondaries. They aren't the same thing and you shouldn't be surprised when secondaries aren't as developed as mains.
>>
>>25162940
I think we have concluded from this quest that Exa cannot deal with complex, difficult and tragic romantic plotlines.

Hopefully he'll look back at how he handled it in his more successful quests and learn from it.

Or he'll just become one of those quest runners who shuts down every potential relationship ever in a blind fury.

Time will tell.
>>
>>25162874
Because the vote was clearly in favour of not retconning.
>>
>>25162958
The Rhos can't have sex until Robin's power gets under control or it gets given to Rose so she has the undisintegratableness. That's kind of a problem.
Jilly has her little issues on account of only recently gaining a gender.

Nothing in anywhere near the same league as Anna's problems, but they're not completely perfect fairytail
>>
>>25163052
I suppose you're right, it just seems like while Heather's been dealing with her shit, everyone else has been slowly pairing up, or getting over her.
>>
>>25163008
>I think we have concluded from this quest that Exa cannot deal with complex, difficult and tragic romantic plotlines.
Yes, definitely.

Amy from NFC was probably the only romantic plotline I pulled off well. Then again, I conclude and start quests mostly to experiment with different themes and plots, and I probably don't change things enough. But at least I'm learning what not to do. And this quest- As well as Vale Quest's beginning- have taught me what not to do.

All in all, though, when I compare all of my quests, Psion Quest might actually be one of the worst ones I've done so far. Worse than Vale Quest by several smidgens, and far, far below NFC and Sorceress Quest.

I've had some good times in Psion Quest, and I don't want you to feel discouraged by some aspects of it not working out and dismiss the whole thing as terrible.

I'm almost disappointed

Please end it soon.

Vale is the worst for me because I just got turned off at the beginning. It doesn't matter if it got better if I never read those bits.
Psion definitely isn't as good as the other two but it's had some fun moments. And at least the smut's been good.

I was just using the clones/birds comparison as an example, what I said in their comparison can be applied to pretty much every non-minor character in the quests. The only character from Sorc Quest that appeared a lot which I can't remember having a goal or passion are Marigold and Grayson, and I did like both less than the rest (although Marigold still had a lot of plot-involvement). I guess Ezekiel's power schtick wasn't that great either, but at least he managed to toe the creepy line with his investment in it. Importantly, Ishelda had two obvious end-goals to work towards - her own kingdom, and rescuing her father and the others from Arcturus, in addition to general exploration/beat baddies. Heather just sits around and goes to school, and occasionally has to fight some people before it's back to practice again. Other than getting more powerful in combat to beat the enemies, there's nothing to aspire to, build towards. It feels stagnant and like it's going nowhere, the villains are dragging the quest along from plot-point to plot-point like Heather is dragging her LIs along to deal with their shit.

One thing I'd say, aside from the obvious one of please keep relationship stuff (somewhat) simple.

Less characters next time. It's impossible to have a cast this big and make everyone interesting.
>>
What the fuck is happening at the moment. Is this the month of writing fuck ups for quests? MGNQ pulled some stupid shit today apparently too.

Also, better pacing. The plot was very backgroundy, I'm not saying some chunks of downtime for character development and shenanigans isn't nice, but the Void Queen really never felt that important for most of the quest, just like a really big hornet that buzzed around us for a while then we shooed it away until the day it finally tried to sting us and we swatted it.

Without a lot of important plot drama to fuel the quest, people fall back on... well... this stuff.

>the villains are dragging the quest along from plot-point to plot-point like Heather is dragging her LIs along to deal with their shit
It does kind of feel like that. Aimlessly wander around chatting to a couple of people, build something, train powers a bit, suddenly Armatek/VQ attack to deal with!, repeat.
>>

That is a good point. That's because most of Sorceress Quest was about finding and achieving goals in 'High Fantasy World', while Psion Quest was about ambling about in 'Psychic Academy 2573 with space opera aliums'. I just didn't expect the pacing to be so horrible, and once it was established, I couldn't speed it up much.

Next one should have a cast of less than ten characters.
You'll have to make a real struggle for them to be romance-able.

>You'll have to make a real struggle for them to be romance-able.

You can't honestly think /tg/ won't try, after all this time, you can't be that naive...
>>
>>25163299
That's why I didn't say it'd be impossible, because that would just be a dare. I'm saying life-or-death risks and such.
>>
>>25163313
I have a feeling people will try anyway.
>>
>>25163286
So it's gone from 'no waifus' to 'not impossible'
>>
>>25163313
What if we romanced... Death.
>>
>>25163326
The only way you could make a /tg/ quest truly 'no waifus' would be to have no other characters, and then /tg/ would just have the protagonist dream up a waifu.
>>
>>25163326
Well look at it this way; in this thread we already gone from 'waifu' to 'impossible', it only makes sense for the next completely different quest to be the opposite of that!
>>
>>25163326
The only way I could actually make it 'no waifus' or 'impossible' would to make it so that there were no characters at all, or to make the character an inhuman mutating blob that eats things, and Bioweapon Quest's got that second part covered.

I think the most important lesson to take from this is don't try to fix problems that don't exist. It's been said (somewhere, and I don't know if it's true or not) that this was your solution to the Anna problem, to which I would respond "what problem?"
>>
>>25163082
Honestly, I've read all of those, and I prefer Psion Quest to all the others due to both the characters and the setting. Don't sell yourself short. You might have drawn more ire, but some of that is because people became more invested.
>>
>>25163365
I for one actually like this quest better than Vale Quest. It felt that the MC from VQ couldnt really be progressed past stereotype ranger.
>>
>>25163512
I honestly don't see how it was an Anna problem at all. Maybe back when the whole Hound thing was going on, but it seemed like pretty much everyone was past it by now, and back to regular romance arguments, with Anna still popular.
