You’d very much welcome the protection of the worm, however after her daughter departure with the Demon Lord the creature shambled wordlessly for a few moments then stopped and laid on the cold hard floor to rest, while its skin had regenerated back to pristine condition the continuous, one sided assaults of her enraged daughter likely took quite a bit of energy out of it and, in the end, you just feel glad that you didn’t need to dance with a 5 meters long biological war machine.

Beside it wouldn’t fit in this narrow corridor.

Thus, your narrow column progress is finally interrupted and you actually welcome the distraction sparing you the far away screams and giggle of your liberated foes deep inside the complex, you were mentally preparing yourself for the moment you’d finally emerge in the ruined castle keep but instead focus on walking up to Belphegor, whose solemn attitude seems relatively out of place for such a young looking girl.

A blue skinned woman is lying motionless on the floor in a puddle of dark blood; her body is covered in scratches and small gashes showing a heavy, albeit vain, struggle that resulted in most of her face caved in by blunt trauma, rendering her effectively unrecognizable.

You made sure to keep Emeth from looking; this is a very sad end to a potential enemy, you also feel frustration at your inability to bury her, as is custom in your homeland.

‘’Well… at least that rule her out’’

You don’t have time to linger, your dialogue was meant to prompt your escort but the girl shake her head and stay put, her paw holding the staff of her scythe visibly tightening as the purple aura around her intensify slightly.
Even so she doesn’t’ appear the least bit angry, in fact she looks completely bored.

‘’That was Amarantha second in command, I never really knew if she was a traitor or under Deruella charms but I guess I’ve got my answer’’

For the strangest of reason she remind you of your uncle; seemingly uninterested in her reports but ready to leap with violence at a moment notice, while her control may look similar to Tsukiyomi, Hadraniel or Ame-no-Uzume the strong charismatic aura you’d expect of a cult leader is simply not there.

It’s strange for someone of her position to not leave much of an impression.

She start, pausing for a moment when a close by scream interrupted her speech, thankfully thought there wasn’t any runaway wretches running toward you, although that didn’t rob you of any uneasiness, this damn place is totally out of control.

‘’Do you have a plan? If you ask me, we’ll have 4 hostiles tying to ambush us once were out of the gate, so… do I need to hold your hand?’’

The Baphomet grin after her sentence as she notice your scow, nonetheless she drive a good point; with the chieftain presumed dead the Onis are likely to run amok, if all the shamans have turned traitors that certainly doesn’t help matters one bit…

‘’…Can you go invisible?’’

You ask after thinking relatively fast, forming a plan on the spot was hard without knowing the extent of your new partner abilities.
The little girl, for her part, laughs and shakes her head.

The scythe sticking to her paw clap on the floor three time as she utter words of power; the language that can only truly be manipulated by monsters like her, for a moment you expect some form of grand theatric like you’ve gotten used to with the magic of monsters, instead, runes suddenly appear upon the large blade of the scythe and start traveling down its staff, glowering in the same dark purple aura that was surrounding the Baphomet paw, the light extend into an aura that cover around three fourth of the length of her grim weapon, effectively highlighting it in that strange aura.

‘’Cut, cut…’’

The Baphomet says, smiling mischievously, you even see a fang exiting out of her upper lisp as she swipe toward the rest of the bars without effort.

You expect the blunt end of the scythe to collide like it should, instead it goes right through the material complexly unhindered, cutting the rusty metal with eerie perfection, leaving you more than a little upset as you realize that the weapon blade doesn’t need to touch anything to be lethal, effectively circumventing the unwieldy scythe.

‘’It’s an old weapon that I’ve modified to my leisure, pretty useful as you can see, the concept of ‘’cutting’’ being taken to a certain extreme is rather pleasing don’t cha think?’’

You take a precarious step back as the Baphomet put the scythe to her side with the biggest proud grin imaginable.

‘’I’m not much of a spell caster I’m afraid, so I make do with tinkering, I’ve got runes on my body so me and your lover here don’t have much difference when we fight, I’m afraid I’m the bottom of the barrel as far as Baphomet goes’’

So, she’s a warrior, a little girl like her doesn’t look that out of place amidst carnage at least.

The girl approach you without notice and you’d have taken another step back if it weren’t for Emeth closeness rooting you on the spot, the demon rummage through one of her pouch with great dexterity for someone lacking a thumb and slowly take out an Ofuda much less grand than what the Demon Lord previously had.

‘’Some fuel for that golem of yours.’’

You thank her awkwardly as you take the paper, you’ll make use of this thing before long.

‘’Well, there you have it, I’m no real spell slinger so that role will fall to you’’

Given how she singlehandedly ruined abominations after abominations to protect your golem when she first jumped in with the Demon Lord, you don’t have to doubt her abilities.

You ask, talking low so you can hear any kind of grunt or sounds betraying a creature trying to sneak up on you, you’ve ceased looking at the demon as well, preferring to concentrate behind you.

How the hell does she know about your abilities? Bah, details, still you luck is finally turning at the very least for you are effectively immune to the Onis attack, at least so long as they don’t carve up a piece of rock and throw it in your direction

The only one to protest was Emeth, she most certainly disliked the prospect of you being bait much more than entering last and it took some serious convincing during the tense way back; even though you were in real, impending mortal peril the girl found a way to sulk right until you finally walked outside where her general negativity morphed into fear, then resolve as she finally took her place at the end of the formation.
It really was a god sends that none of the abominations or wretches found their way back to the fog gate, the various cart and ruined logs looked undisturbed, the same strange feeling of complete and total isolation was prevalent all the way back and completely went over the head of the Baphomet who, for all intent and purpose, was relaxed to an uncomfortable point.

Demons are weird.

You stay silent and concentrate; impending conflict is merely a few feet from you and despite your experience, it is never easy to know your willingly marching to your potential doom, never mind the fact that you’ve spent a good amount of energy fighting for your life against horrors, right now you have 4 potentially elite foes waiting for you inside a church dampening magical excess and, in all likelihood, sounds.

You hold your palm forward and form and oval, thick ice shield in front of you and immediately enter the chapel; you really did protect yourself as best you could but, sometime, luck is simply not on your side.

As your vision is momentarily blocked by the fog, you hear sounds of battles before you can see anything; loud shocks reverberate inside the large room as well as screams of angers and rages, terrible blunt forces smashes the ground relentlessly and finally, you see the battlefield that the church transformed into.

Piece of floors, pillar, benches and walls have literally been ripped from the walls, the runes inside still glowering in mix of purple and blue effectively camouflaging magic and sounds to the outside world while two red shamans have encircled a third one, they’re fantastical phantoms overhead dancing a lethal dance as the totemic creatures rages about, ruining the gothic decorations while pressing hard the lone girl who is obviously at a disadvantage if it weren’t for her superior agility.

What the hell is going on here?

However your eyes spot the last of the shamans atop the grand statue of the water dragon Orochi, her great phantasm look like some kind of big, hairy, ugly humanoid with a pudgy, extended face and a wicked set of teeth and a amused grin as its holding the large head of the statue...only to launch it toward you with almost perfect aim.

Shit!

You turn to offer your profile while injecting more magic in your shield that is unfortunately shattered on impact, the head collide with your armored shoulder and the shock send an unimaginably painful wave into your entire body as you fall like a broken marionette, your entire right side ache and burn, it’s only the blood you cough up that prevent your scream.

Respite isn’t in the Onis dictionary. As stars still feel your vision the tall red girl jump on the ground, the hairy monstrosity atop joining its hand together for the coup de gras as it charge toward you.

The only reason why you are still lucid is entirely due to the military fervor hard drilled into you during your adolescence.

Amidst the grogginess of pain, you feel a strange clarity that you assume can only be brought by adrenaline rush as your survival instinct kick in.
Your next spell won’t be anything fancy, the good old reliable ice spikes have served you well in the years and now… The Oni close in faster than you can cast, the hairy phantasms hands close in right when you finish injecting as much energy in your spell as you can without supercharging it; the spell launch right when the hands come to squish your helmet; the force is instead transferred in your body and help you heal somewhat, the unbearable pain lessen while realization appear in the Oni Face, the Shaman head is skewered by your spell; the spear enter and exit in a shower of gore that needs no description, instead you concentrate on your spell heading to the enchanted roof and crashing right in it, dislodging a set of runes and stones that come crashing down near the fighting trio, forcing them to a stop as the dust interrupt the fight.

‘’…You alright there boy?’’

Belphegor ask you after her uneventful entrance while looking at the still twitching, warm body of the decapitated shaman.
Your legs are fine at least, bout you probably don’t have the strength to stand, the other three fighter have separated, the one under pressure made a retreat to the far left end of the chapel while the other two are standing together, looking very, very pissed with the death of their comrade.
Well… at least one is gone.

‘’Methink there’s a little struggle for power here’’

Emeth finally emerge from the gate and, upon seeing you, rush at your side and clumsily touch your fractured hand as she drop on her knee, clearly upset while saying a concert of ‘’Siggy! Siggy!’’ that doesn’t leave much room for talking.

Then, in the newfound tension, the voice of the lone Shaman interrupts the emotional golem.

‘’Agent! Help me kill these damnable usurpers!’’

We may need to talk with the Baphomet.

It was 3 shamans vs 1, because one of the 3 was waiting in ambush for us.
They (4 shamans and the blue-skin) released the wretches because we were going to kill Amarantha.
The agents of Deruella don't want Amarantha dead. So the ones who would target us would be the agents of Deruella.
But then so would loyal Oni who don't know of Amarantha being under Deruella's control, so that doesn't tell us much there.

But the lone Oni called us Agent and to help her against usurpers. If she was a Loyalist, then she would be more concerned with us being the killer of Amarantha.
She would want us alive if she was a Church spy.

But then again, if they all heard WHY we were going to kill Amarantha and her intention of betraying Zipang to the Church, then the lone Oni would be a Loyalist because she knows we're an Agent of Ame and would therefore want our support.

Her words echoes out of your head as you cling to consciousness, your earlier spell against the shaman was more than likely a fluke; fortune is truly fickle on the battlefield.

‘’What…’’

You only croak, the voice sounding hollow as it escape your helmet, you struggle to stand but successfully do so by taking hold on some broken piece of rusty armor, all the while Emeth watching over you like an hawk.

‘’Struggle for power, Look like Deruella got busy…’’

The Baphomet speak under her breath and walk forward, holding her scythe beside her and eyeing the duo of shaman that, you see, were the ones inside the fortress thank to they’re phantasm being the same, strange oversized totem like animals, each holding a carved piece of the floor as ammunition and ready to throw it at a moment notice.

The lone shaman, for her part, had a totem similar to Amarantha in representing a humanoid garbing a giant mask, but much less decorated and well formed, although it certainly was a sight to in itself behold.

One of the two Oni asks they’re previous foe, muttering with some kind of false anger while the second one concentrates on your trio.

The lone shaman retorts back, screaming loud enough to trample over the words of her comrade. All these onis are garbed similarly, making it hard to know who is who when your head is spinning.

‘’She and I knew there were traitors in our midst! But to think there’s been 3… You goddamn witches have no right to call yourselves Onis or monsters! If it means I can get rid of your little coup I’d take the help of the Demon Lord herself!’’

One broken piece of stone goes flying as the lone Oni explode, her rage having reached its threshold she charge recklessly toward the other two, ready to resume hostility once more and, when the other two girls throws they’re ammunition, the great Phantasm punch them both to submission.

She really can take care of herself…

But what do you do? Belphegor turn to you with a smile, the one belonging to an innocent little girl about to enjoy the most delicious of treat.

Something strike you; there is no agents of the Lilim here, merely greedy and opportunistic vassals who took advantage of the situation, after all not even Amarantha could have known she was charmed to such an extent…

Your too wounded to do much, thankfully the two shamans aren’t attempting anything toward you, too busy with they’re very angry compatriot whose phantasm is literally running amok; carving and gouging the ground and pressing the two girls hard, at least for a time until one of them grab hold of your newfound allies, her phantasm lock the other in some kind of wrestling match as both creature struggle to overpower the other and of course the summoner’s battle had regressed to brutal hand to hand where each strikes resonated inside the chapel.
Onis are scary.

‘’H-help her!’’

You gesture to the Baphomet who charge the awaiting shaman that, once more, took another piece of debris to use as makeshift projectile, what she didn’t expect was for Belphegor to literally cut stones as thick as your torso and run along her merry path, causing her to shift to an evasive posture as the little girl start laughing with eerie merriness.

As another wave of pain assault your sense, you realize that the back of your enemy is on you, you can identify her thank to her crude, lizard-like Phantasm emerging from her body.

You could definitely try a sneak attack or…

You look toward Emeth, sending her in would work, too. You don’t have too much to worry about the second shaman.

Quickly, the plan forms in your head and shared with Emeth in mere seconds, while the golem may not know what you truly have in mind you don’t even need to look at her; she knows you want to accomplish something and need no motivation to offer you her shoulder, which you take as you remove your armor for ease of movement, it’s probably thank to this that you didn’t end up breaking your neck earlier.

‘’Monster!’’

You hear the other shaman scream, soon dwarfed by Belphegor laugh that resonate all around the chapel as she toy with her opponent and seems to be using some sort of corruption; you feel it permeating the little girl as her purple aura extend, growing the length of the scythe and extending her reach as the girl as foregoes the use of her weapon, instead the artifact is floating beside her with a mind of its own, hacking away as she hold position and cross her paws.
…why did she say she wasn’t a good spell caster?

Nevertheless, the two other onis falter somewhat at the girl extravagant battle, probable that they felt the girl corruption although, in your case the distraction is very much welcome and finally you reach the edge of your zone of influence and cross eyes with the girl, pointing to her immobile foes as the two Phantasm continue their struggle, it’s a true test of strength with no end in sight, probably how onis fight one another in the first place.

Hmmm... It just occurred to me that if we die Mother Earth will cause another loop. She isn't Sumika, the fact she told us this one time shouldn't affect her ability to loop everything, so it should work. Meaning she'll just tell us again next loop.

Will this mean that the quest resets from thread one, or do we simply get to reload from the last save point as it were. After all, the winds of fate blow differently each time one attempts to navigate them. I assume that, so long as man and monster do not land a chance at permanent peace the loops will continue.

The first two rolls are most likely to use the same time seed to seed the RNG, meaning that they are the most likely to have similar results.
Either you would have passed with the first roll anyway, or the second roll hasn't changed the seed enough and you'll end up with a failure anyway.
