You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor, leading the Aprior Sector Joint Task Force on the frozen planet of Volkgarod, to battle the orks who have invaded the world.

You have just led a strike force overland to the last few cities standing against the orks in the agricultural belt, and have succeeded in rescuing a local garrison force in one central citadel. However, the orks still hold the majority of the city, and with the rest of the JTF deployed to the industrial centers, it is unlikely that they will be able to assist you for some time.

Your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

Old threads here.

I am going to be posting some more Knights armory at the moment, to give the players a chance to show up before we move on.

Squad Automatic Weapon 'SAW': In battlezones across the galaxy, the Imperial Guard faces many threats which require the use of specialty support weapons to deal with. In many cases, a support team is attached to a standard squad for the duration of the mission.

The Aprior guard has taken this one step further with the inclusion of several specialty weapons in most every squad, one of which is the SAW. The SAW is a medium stubber, built light enough to be carried and operated by one individual, meant to provide the high rates of fire needed to suppress enemies, or deal with tyrranid waves.

The weapon has also seen adoption with several other units, including Kaptin Feeguls orks, the Sisters of Reason, and the Knights inductor themselves. When used by these groups, the SAW is refitted with furniture similar to a normal rifle, as these individuals are strong enough to wield it as such.

Whilst it has been fazed out in some cases among the sisters and Knights, the orks of Feegul's crew have become very fond of the weapon, seeing it as an improvement on their own beloved shootas in many cases.

Did you really have to archive this at zero posts?
>>

Hes afraid of nasty trollus.
>>
>>25344509
Unfortunately yes.

Someone who wasn't fond of this quest archived a previous section with an insulting title, description and tags, and my request to the admins of suptg to change them were never replied to.

In order to prevent this again I archive it as soon as I start. Unfortunate but I don't want this to be vandalized again.

Marklas: Many regiments in the Imperial Guard make use of specialized sniper units, as do the Aprior guard. However, the Aprior guard decided to incorporate precision marksman capabilities into their standard combat squads, rather than rely on separate units of specialists.

Thus was developed the marklas, an intermediate weapon standing between the longlas and the lasgun, there is usually a designated marksman in each squad wielding this weapon to provide longer range precision shots.

This superior accuracy comes at the cost of lower shots per charge pack, and some heat issues from packing such a powerful weapon into such a small package, leading to a lower fire rate than the standard lasgun.
>>
>>25344618

Stormlas: Faced with all too many tyranid encroachments, the Knights Inductor found that the standard bolter did not have the rate of fire needed to deal with the charging hordes as much as they would like.

They found that the retrofitted SAW was a useful weapon for this task, possessing the rate of fire needed to deal with the large masses of creatures being thrown at them, but that it lacked in staying power, needing to be reloaded too often to be practical for this use.

The Knights contracted the Aprior primary workshop to create a replacement weapon, and thus was born the stormlas.

Essentially a hellgun re-sized to be used by an Astartes, the stormlas is capable of high rates of fire and unparalleled endurance, as it draws its power from the suits own power plant, rather than any external charge pack.

This means that it is nearly impossible for any non power armored force to deploy the stormlas, as it would deplete any portable charge pack too quickly to be superior to the SAW. While primarily a Knight weapon, some units do see deployment with the Sisters of Reason as well.

Situation report from the locals
>>
CZ57 Avenger minigun: Begun an experiment to create the ultimate in anti-infantry weapons a single Knight could carry, the Avenger is a rotary barrel minigun capable of an unsurpassed rate of fire.

However, it does suffer from ammunition consumption problems given its rate of fire, necessitating large unwieldy ammunition packs for prolonged use. As such its deployment with the Knights is limited, but it has performed well in crisis situation.

"Colonel Federov," you say, "I require a status report, how long have you been here?"

"This battle has gone on for some weeks," Federov says, "The battle began in the countryside and they have pushed us back this far, to this final stronghold. We would not have lasted much longer if not for you."

You nod, you had surmised that their situation had been desperate from seeing the state of the garrison around you, weary men in soiled uniforms, stained with mud, blood and gun oil.

"What is the status of the other cities in this region? Do any other cities in this section of the belt yet stand?"

"If they do I do not know of them." Federov shakes his head wearily, "We fell back as each outlying city was overrun, the men here are the survivors of each battle, a dozen different garrisons pulled together into a last stand. All our forces, and the majority of the invaders are concentrated here in this last city."

"And what of the civilians?"

Federovs face is like stone. "They either fled, fought, or died, any who fell behind were left behind. An unfortunate situation, but my priority was preserving as many soldiers for the fight as I could."

Other questions? Also, are there enough players here for me to start this?
>>
>>25345312
Very well then are you aware of any holdouts formed from groups who were unable to keep up?
>>
>>25345312
I'm here intermittently. I think people thought you wouldn't be running today.
>>
>>25345400

"Very well then are you aware of any holdouts formed from groups who were unable to keep up?"

Federov frowns. "There may very well be pockets of resistance, or some people hiding, but nobody has responded to our vox calls, so they are either unable or unwilling to respond." He shivers, "Or we really are the last ones left."
>>
>>25345424

>>25345578
Look for a weakness in the current ork forces, and smash it. Commando units hit ammo dumps ane the like while line units attack weak points
>>
>>25345649

"Crais, Vael, I need you out there identifying and destroying targets of opportunity, also, find me a weak spot in the orkish horde, we need another breakout to end the stalemate here."

You turn back to Federov. "My covert units will engage in seek and destroy operations to weaken the enemy, whilst my main force will do battle with the enemy wherever they are weakest."

Federov shakes his head again, sighing wearily.

"From what we could tell they have no weak spots, their sheer power seems to defy our attempts to defeat them using strategy, but perhaps you will fare better."

Any further actions here? Or strike out, alternatively you could wait for your scouts to find a weak spot in the orkish lines.

Also, did you want to change your loadout now that I have gone into greater detail with the armory?
>>
Wait for the report, but engage in probing actions to keep them distracted. Have the probes draw orks into ambushes
>>
>>25345778

You nod. "I shall station my forces here for the moment, and set out to attack the enemy once my scouts return with any actionable intelligence upon the orkish positions. In the meantime Colonel, tend to your men, my people will lend what help they can before we must leave."

"Thank you, any help you can offer would be most appreciated."

You see to the welfare of your men, tending to the wounded as best your people are able, recharging power cells and refueling your vehicles. Several hours past mostly without incident, the only breaks in the quiet the occasional orkish mob suicidally rushing the walls, or the sound of distant gunfire.

Eventually, the wait is broken with a vox call from commander Vael.

"Captain, my report on the orkish forces is prepared."

"Proceed commander."

"Their layout is very similar to the order of battle we saw back at the capital, so much as that concept can be applied to orks.

The orks have piled weapons and ammunition in store piles to supply their forces, while the mekboys have been preoccupied with looting and constructing vehicles and weapons in the outer city. We have been engaged in hit and run attacks on these structures, and have eliminated several, but the number of them and their distance from the front lines makes it doubtful that we will break them like this."

I actually found the troll title sort of endearing. Isn't it nice to know that someone cares enough to go out of their way for your sake, good OP? Anyway, catching up.

Its also the highest rated thread of the quest. By a lot.

>>25345971

"Good." you say, "Do some further recon and tell me what you find, but in the meantime I think that it is time we hit the orks back, begin to thin the herd as it were."

"A sound move." You detect the slightest hint of satisfaction in the tau's voice, "How do you plan to do so?"

"Make another raid on a supply base, but withdraw slowly enough to draw the orks after you, we will lead them into an ambush, and then break off and repeat the process elsewhere."

"I shall begin the preparations immediately, let us find a location suitable for the task." You discuss matters for several minutes, finding a location suited to the attack you are planning.

What specific forces do you wish to bring with you?

Battle brothers and sisters. Guardsmen are better reserved for defence duties. Do we have our armor with us?

>>25346227
Your attack force currently posesses Chimera and Rhino APCs and a handful of Fenris tanks, nothing else would fit in the train.

>>25346227
Confirming ambush force, Knights and Sisters with tank backup, keep the guard in reserve.
>>
>>25346337
Proceeding with this.
>>
>>25346389

You form your ambush force to supply the maximum possible damage in the shortest space of time. You mount a number of Knights and sisters into the appropriate APCs, and set off with your escort of tanks, bidding farewell to the locals and guardsmen you leave behind.

It takes you about half an hour to reach the site of the ambush, a street with one end blocked by collapsed buildings, the open end facing towards the outside edge of the city, and the waiting orks. You set your tanks out of sight to swoop in and close the trap, whilst you position your infantry in the buildings to either side of the street, ready to fire down into the charging mass of orks.

You vox Vael and tell him that the operation is a go, and he begins his attack. After a few minutes, you hear a loud rumbling in the distance, and see the smoke rising from the edge of the city.

A few minutes after that, you see the battlesuit team leaping from building to building, baiting a great horde of charging greenskins into the jaws of your trap. The orks reach the optimum firing position, unaware of the danger hiding all about them.

Roll to engage the enemy, roll out of 100, low is good, I take the best of the first three.

"Steady," you vox, "steady." you watch and see the first ork set foot over the line marking optimum position.

"Light 'em up!" you cry as you open fire, bolter shots seemingly absorbed by the howling tide of green in the street below.

All around you brothers and sisters open fire, several squads of Apriors best pouring every ounce of firepower they have into the mass of confused greenskins below.

The orks fall in droves, blasted apart by bolters and chewed to bits by SAW and stormlas volleys, but they rally with all the ferocity of their kind and charge towards the buildings were you have taken refuge.

"Hammer!" you vox, "Bring your tanks in now!"

Hammer aknowledges and begins moving, but before he can get here the sheer numbers of the orks overcome the firepower thrown against them, and they break through into the buildings where you are taking refuge.

State plan and roll to continue the engagement.

"Hold them back!" You command, "Hand to hand if you have to!"

You sling your rifle and draw your pistol and shock maul, crashing through a wall to slam into the orkish horde pouring into the building.

Your first swing smashes an ork skull in, then you bring up your bolt pistol and decapitate the next in line. Their numbers are great, pressing upon you like a ravenous tide, but in the tight hallway of the building they have charged into their numbers will not avail them.

The press of the orks at the back drive the mass towards, even as the ones at the front push back away from your crackling maul and smoking pistol, a pile of orkish dead at your feet.

You advance as they begin to loose steam, smashing and destroying their entire charge nearly single handed, sending the howling survivors sprawling back into the street.

They get up and seem to be rallying to attack again, when they promptly disappear into a cloud of smoke and shrapnel, a Fenris tank flying down the street a second later.

The armored advance corners the orks against the fallen masonry capping the end of the street, and they are swiftly obliterated, Hammer breaking the orks on the anvil you have created.

In a few short minutes the engagement comes to a sudden halt, the last gunshot echoing throughout the destroyed streets.

You survey your handiwork before activating your vox. "All units report status."

It seems that your good planning and personal prowess have prevented anything greater than slight injuries amongst your comrades, but the guard commander has a more interesting report.

It seems that an orkish force evaded detection long enough to strike at the central fort, but with the JTF units assisting them the local army was able to defeat them, though there were some casualties.

In short, you have struck a painful blow to the enemy and killed several hundred of their number, without suffering greatly yourself.

I am currently catching up in the archives, and I just wanted to say that you are awesome.

I wonder if we should have the Knights, Rhinos, and Fenris tanks go out on Search and Destroy patrols to kill the Orks in small groups.

But the problem is that we need to finish this area so that we can move on the Industrial Sector.
Which reminds me, we should get a status report from them.

You activate your vox and put a call through to sister Cypress. When the line opens, you hear the intermittent sounds of a booming bolter and the crack of lasfire.

"Sister Cypress." You intone, "This is Smith, what is your situation?"

"Up to my ears in orks!" she says before her words are drowned out by the boom of a bolter. "We're rolling them back but this is taking time, the orks are here in great numbers!"

"Do you require any assistance?"

You hear an ork warcry being cut short as Cypress answers with something distinctly impious.

"No," She says, catching her breath, "We can manage, but this will take time, don't leave your job half finished on my account Captain."

"Very well," You say, "Report your status if the situation changes."

"Will do." Cypress says before she begins firing again and disconnects the vox.

>>

Cypress is half the world away in the industrial centers, while you are in the agricultural belt.

"This is Smith to all Sister and Knight units in the combat zone, mount up and conduct search and destroy operations, ambush and kill ork detachments with armored support. Guardsmen, move out and secure the ground that we take, check for any pockets of resistance and hold the line, we are retaking this city."

Your various unit leaders chorus their affirmatives and set off on their tasks, the growl of engines filling the air. You stalk the streets of the city, armored predators swooping in and destroying unfortunate orks before they can even respond, but for every group that you destroy another seems to pop up.

The sheer numbers of the orks which roam the city streets wear hard against even your superhuman endurance, but you press on.

Luckily, without a single great battle to draw them, the orks seem somewhat disorganized, allowing you to better cut them apart with your lightening attacks.

This state of affairs continues for some hours, individual detachments ambushing and destroying ork positions, battlesuits and Shrikes targeting and destroying ork installations as soon as they are revealed.

In the end, it seems that the city is more or less secured after roughly a day and a half of hard fighting. You have taken casualties, but your mission has been accomplished, or at least resolved such that the JTF guard and local army can finish mopping up the enemy.

Reports from Cypress indicate that there is still heavy fighting in the industrial center, but that her advance is slowly gaining ground.

How do you proceed?

>>25348488
Can we head out to reinforce Cypress?
