Okay, so...I have some other appointments later today, but there should be enough time to figure out where in the myriad Darknesses you want to go with this.

Your call. Also, if you have any questions or want something cleared up, this is the place to ask.

First things first. I'm opening up the world. You want to run your own Quest in the world of Citadel Kingdom? Go nuts. The array is broken, so the world need not run on the actions of one person, nor will the entire world be moved dramatically by one person. Be it inside the Citadel or outside it.

So, I have a few story ideas for what Ssen and Co. can do. But they're each so dramatically different from the other than I want your input before we go.

Option 1: The Citadel Dome is seen as a prophetic sign by the Phoenix Empire. Not to mention the fact that Citadel Kingdom no longer has its army, and it's normal magic source is GONE. They begin an invasion to claim Citadel. Also, White Tree and First Wood react poorly to the change in power. White Tree becoming an isolationist semi-facsist state, and the conflict First Wood getting worse, as Mab and the remaining court make their move to reclaim it.

Option 2: The Dawnchasers go for broke, grab the Lantern Mirrors, and enter the dome. You'll be working with the New Caligo Clarus and Odette to finish the work, only now it's even more dangerous as Citadel now has total control of the world.

There's obvious up sides and down sides to both of them.

Option 1 changes the direction of the story, but lets us see a bunch of new things and people as the Kingdom deals with this radical change.

Option 2 gives us more of the same story as we've had so far, but we'll have some new characters, and things can get sort of trippy as Citadel reacts to your actions with all the subtlety of a 9-year old.
>>
>>25344552
I'm for Option 1
It will be nice to see something different
>>
... I kinda want to see the end of Citadel. But option 1 seems more fun and less likely to end the quest right after Citadel does.
>>
I think one thing we need to do before all that is give everyone a week off (assuming something's not on fire when we get to Stone Hall), and in particular get Mage a barrel of sweet potatoes and some days of no requests. Dude works hard, and we've been kind of making him feel like he is taken for granted.

But of the two options, 1 sounds more fun, though freeing Citadel would seem to be important as well. I mean, we just created hell on earth after all.
>>
>>25344552
I'm liking Option 1, would be a fun change of pace. Besides, it will probably include something similar to option 2 later anyway, so we get both, not like we can just leave Citadel there.
>>
>>25344745
There would obviously be a gap of time before the invasion begins.

NO time skip though. I loathe that concept, lazy writing. We can have time move quickly, ala montage or other methods, but we aren't going to look away and then look back and have multiple years pass while we weren't looking.
>>
>>25344552
BOTH
We really have to end Citadel, but it's not that urgent any more. What we've done already will cause massive waves, no doubt about it, and those probably will cause urgent problems, like Option 1.
>>
>>25344552

Option 1 sounds nice.

Option 2 sounds like it could become an extension of Option 1, if things get desperate enough. Either to stop the Phoenix Empire from claiming the remains of Citadel, or perhaps to finally try to act and redeem Citadel.
>>
>>25344552

How big is White Tree anyway? From our first visit there, I kind of got the impression that it was only two or three times the size of River's Crossing, and /much/ smaller than Purple Sands or Bronze Peak.
>>
>>25344810
I'm pretty sure we've gone well pass the point of trying to redeem Citadel...

Anyways.

>>25344552
Option One moving into Option Two would be my vote. We still have our promises to keep. But it would be a nice change of pace for a bit.

>>25344794
>NO time skip though.
This is nice to hear. I've always hated that in stories. 'THREE YEARS LATER!' Bah.
>>
>>25344794

Concur'd. Though, honestly, solving economic and social problems is half the fun of Lamia Quest.
>>
>> 25355442

You mean the new Mab. I'm pretty sure the current one wants nothing to do with the Fey Court.
>>
>>25344881
And we need at least one session of vacation time, montage or no.
>>
>>25344552
Ugh, I want both. I think 1 would be pretty fun and interesting, though, just worried it'd make the plot too meandering.
>>
>>25344959
>just worried it'd make the plot too meandering.

And that's my big worry of Option 1.
>>
>>25344959
that would actually kind fit, we smashed destiny remember? narrative casualty went out the window. so there is no reason the next crisis has to wait for the previous one to finish.
>>
>>25344975
>>25344976
The last session seemed like a pretty good "end of Part 1" anyway. I think we can stand some changes in the status quo.
>>
>>25344828
>How big is White Tree anyway? From our first visit there, I kind of got the impression that it was only two or three times the size of River's Crossing, and /much/ smaller than Purple Sands or Bronze Peak.

White Tree's size is a little misleading, the 'city proper' that's within the walls is about 3-4 times bigger than River's Crossing, and that's only about half the size of any of the other cities.

However, there's plenty of farmsteads, manors like Lord Holting's, and little clutches of homes that are outside White Tree's walls, but still consider themselves to be part of White Tree. White Tree's main economic keystone is all about farming, ranching, and other plains related food production.

Of course, now with Citadel's magic being sucked back into itself, there's going to be a lot of upheaval. Plus, White Tree's been carefully guided culturally for years by Tragedy and Lady Glenn, who were racist bigots. So there's a long tradition of people being put in charge having a mandatory quality of 'Monsters = Beasts' mentality.
>>
>>25345073
.... so they are all rednecks?
>>
>>25344975

You could try mixing Options 1 & 2.

Things are pretty calm after the whole killing of the Dramatae, but important people are going to notice the power vacuum sooner or later (probably sooner, if they have agents living in and about the land) and try to exploit it. It can still be an open chapter, so to speak, but stuff can still be happening in real time.

Kind of like how it is in Exile 3/Avernum 3; the player is encouraged to explore this huge world and really soak up the small details, but there are several monster plagues in progress. If you don't deal with those plagues in a (lenient) span of time, towns will be destroyed, NPCs will die from town invasions or getting sick from diseases/joining doomed expeditionary forces, etc.
>>
>>25345151
Ooh, that's a good one. Gives us enough time to vacation and travel for fun a bit, but then start noticing that "something's rotten in Denmark" and, well, off to the next quest!
>>
>>25345078
No. They're quite cultured. You know that I try to always make things be more complicated than that. It's just something that's been so institutionalized, that they really don't even realize it. Loathing monsters is in most parts of their culture. Their children's stories, songs demonizing them, art, etc. They'll condemn a man for being racist for saying the term 'pointy-ears' and with the same breath say 'scale-face' or say something horrible about Tara.

That's why your presence was such a shock to their system. Let a lone your status as a Paladin. Thus they do what most people do in that scenario, pretend you don't exist until you go away, and then go back to normal.
>>
>>25345073
>>25345078
So, in terms of city size comparison, like we did before with Citadel = 2 times Tokyo and Stone Hall is approximately equal to Seattle, would White Tree be like Omaha, Nebraska or something?
>>
>>25345151
Oooh, Exile 3 is one of my more favorite games. (Still that doomknight in the Giant-Trogoldyte Barrier room, ugh)
>>
>>25345175
I wonder if that has anything to do with them being the closest large city to Citadel proper.
>>
>>25345190
The city's a little bit bigger, but yeah. Also, you have to travel for a while before you can find a group of people who say that they live in their own village, and not say that they're part of White Tree.
>>
>>25345194

Even to this day, I wonder why no villain in AAA games has ever thought to make a golem factory. That place was horrifying if you were doing a legit playthrough with no editor shenanigans.
>>
>>25345237
Oh, so it's basically not-DFW complex, set in quasi-Middle Ages times, and with slightly smaller population.
>>
>>25345247
Yeah, but obviously a lot of that is going to be changing REALLY fast now.
>>
>>25345244
Probably because golems in whatever 'verse a factory would be set in require something hard to find to make them, like a soul or a unique item. Do you know how hard souls are to find? I'm not made of money!

[s]Solution, make a money golem[s]
>>
>>25345297

True enough, since most golems require binding of elemental spirits.

The golems in Exile 3/Avernum 3 were more like magical murder-robots made from gems and stone.
>>
>>25345297
There was a dwarf king in one campaign I played in who protected his treasure vault with a gold golem made from his own treasure.
>>
>>25345333
Great way to protect the treasure from looters too, it literally walks away.
>>
With regards to the phoenix kingdom how advanced is their technology reached? I know that they have tales of flying machines, but other than that we've gotten little information. Is their technology still pre-black powder or do they have rudimentary fireworks and machines? (Things like the Hwa-cha rocket artillery (early 1300's) or the repeating crossbow?(400BC) Dates included for simple time reference.

I would see Option 2 lead into Option 1 as the time it takes to finally deal with citadel would provide ample time for the Phoenix Empire to muster their forces and cross the sea. (Which is how far? Pacific size or Atlantic?)

Also should Option 1 come into play I can see bad things happening for Mumei.
>>
>>25345399
I think their flying machines were destroyed and buried by their Dramatae equivalent (the name eludes me). It sounds as though they are as anti-change as Citadel.
>>
>>25345418

Or they just like to hoard all the technological and magical marvels to their own little club. Only deigning to release materials when absolutely necessary, or whenever the whim strikes them.
>>
>>25345418
Well I thought that the Phoenix kingdom imprisoned their land spirit (or local equivalent). I was refering to the tale where the man tried to fly and was killed for trespassing on the emperors domain.
>>
>>25345452
They did, but the people who did so simply took the reins for themselves. Kept the old regime going, just replace "land spirit" with "bunch of nobles".

Crap, I just realized that if this is the case, then Paladin Balles is in very real danger of being brainwashed when the invasion finally happens.
>>
>>25345521
He does love that Phoenix Empire 'order'.
>>
Hey, this is just something that has been bugging me, but have Tricia and Ssen still been able to...do it? I can't figure it out, because it's implied that they've been able to, but I am not sure how that works given Tricia's current state.

I mean Tricia doesn't have any muscle or fat anymore, other than skin, organs, and bone it's all bugs. So is she like a bloated, dead animal; looks fat and happy on the outside but the minute you poke it it explodes into a pile of...well, you get the idea? Or is it that she still has what appears to be fat and muscle, but it's really insects transformed into fat and muscle, and she can transform them back as needed. Because I keep having this mental image of Ssen trying to cuddle up to Tricia only for her body to burst into a swarm of bees. Would bugs swarm out if you, say, cut deep enough to penetrate where Tricia's muscles once were?

Sorry for the disturbing imagery, it's just something I haven't been able to figure out. Honestly, we don't need to hear the gritty details, a "yes" or "no" would be fine for now.
>>
>>25345903
>Hey, this is just something that has been bugging me, but have Tricia and Ssen still been able to...do it?

Short answer: Yes. They figured it out.

>So is she like a bloated, dead animal; looks fat and happy on the outside but the minute you poke it it explodes into a pile of...well, you get the idea?

>She still has what appears to be fat and muscle, but it's really insects transformed into fat and muscle, and she can transform them back as needed.

This is the answer to the earlier question.

>Would bugs swarm out if you, say, cut deep enough to penetrate where Tricia's muscles once were?

No, there'd be bugs and blood. She still has her circulatory and respiratory systems.
>>
>>25345980
Good. Let us never speak of this again.
>>
>>25345521
Less worry about brainwashing, more worry about actually going turncoat
>>
Okay, another question. Obviously you're going to get a bunch of new enemies, but would you like to have a chance to deal with the Revenants? It's an easy yes when you go into Citadel, but outside...I know you guys would love to finish off Donovan and Lea's Father, and it's easy enough for me to put them in.

The way that I said that they were summoned allows for this.

Any other slightly obscure people/enemies/monsters that you'd like me to bring back from Book 1? (Obviously everyone who's a player in Stone Hall and Bronze Peak will come back. I'm wondering if I made a quick character that you'd guys like to have more screen time)
>>
>>25345903
>>25345980
Lamia Quest, ladies and gents.
>>
>>25346213
I figured the revenants would have gone when Comedy died. What reason does Citadel have to keep those souls walking around now?
>>
>>25346213
Oh, and one little bit of fluff that I made that sadly, you'll not have a natural way to discover now.

That dragon that Dagda mentioned? The Dragon Who's Name is Dragon because she IS what a Dragon IS. That was Ssen's Dragon Ancestor. Her great-great-great-etc-grandmother.
>>
>>25346213
We're going to run into them eventually whenever we do finally decide to go into Citadel, so really its not a big deal.
>>
>>25346279
.... oh that is perfect. It really is. We're finishing both sides of the family's work.
>>
>>25346213
>Any other slightly obscure people/enemies/monsters that you'd like me to bring back from Book 1?
There was the kid from First Stone Hall that attacked us and we threw in jail. And that Lea damaged the bars of the prison over his blasphemy.
Would be interesting to stick him and our former light bringer together on a penance quest.
>>
>>25346279
I kind of figured that one out. A dragon whose name means "dragon" and who thinks "we don't need no stinkin' land spirits". Totally sounded like it was a reference to Ssen in some way.
>>
>>25346268
>What reason does Citadel have to keep those souls walking around now?

It doesn't, but they're sort of like the Denarians from the Dresden Files. There's some artifacts out there that hold their souls, and if they're activated within range of a corpse, then they can come back. It's an Elf Spell too, so it's fueled by the Tradition, which is still strong.

I only ask this because I know some of you would like nothing better than to see Donovan and Lea's Father get a sharp spear of karma shoved in their face.
>>
>>25346325
sure then lets encounter them again.
>>
>>25346325
I'm actually pretty much over Donovan. I would love for lea to get her chance to kick her dad's ass just once though
>>
>>25346362
she definately deserves the chance.
>>
>>25346279
You know, I'm starting to wonder, aside from her desire to be a paladin, does Ssen have any traits that aren't derived from her dragon or leviathan heritage? Her pride, possessiveness towards friends, and stubborness are all dragon traits, whereas her intelligence, sense of humor, penchant for crazy plans, and inability to name things are all leviathan traits. It just seems a little odd given the themes of "who you are born as does not dictate who you are" and "races are not definable by a single set of traits" present in all the other characters.
>>
>>25346393
I'm pretty sure pride, possessiveness, stubborness, intelligence, sense of humor and crazy plans are the traits of things besides dragons and leviathans.
>>
>>25346393
Really all of those traits are traits that /tg/ gave to ssen. It just so happens that those traits are common for dragons and leviathans.
>>
>>25346393
I would argue that she developed those attributes on your own. Who you are born as doesn't dictate, but it does help shape you.

Also, her desire to horde is unique to her. Old One has a horde urge, and so did the Dragon Who's Name Is Dragon, but neither of them wanted to horde friends or loved ones.
>>
>>25346484
Agreed on both counts, it just seemed a little odd that her personality seemed like a checklist for dragon and leviathan behavior, especially since the other races we've seen differ so much between individuals.
>>
>>25346393
Hey, it's the human members of our group that come up with the craziest plans, ever since Mage destroyed a mountain so that we could escape. Lea's just as stubborn as we are if not more so, Mage is actually the "clever one" in the group, and the ENTIRE PARTY went apeshit when we went down in in the Stone Hall siege.

Creative thinking, stubbornness, and protective instincts all ratcheted up to eleven are just how our group seems to work.
>>
>>25346484
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm a little unclear as to what you mean by unique. I mean, we could say that a family has a penchant and histor to play sports, but if one plays baseball and his son plays basketball we'd call it different. Right?

I'm just a little unclear on what you mean. That's all.
>>
>>25346531
And the Dagda scam was Peri's idea. We should definitely bring that up next time one of them calls us crazy.
>>
>>25346522
Even if that was true, which I don't think it is, "hording" friends and loved ones is a uniquely Paladin-ish way to do it. It shows that Ssen places more value in trust and companionship than in any sort of object. As for leviathans, what did they actually ever DO with those crazy brains of theirs? Did they ever focus that on solving problems or helping people?

If you get hung up on the apparent presence or absence of those characteristics you listed and miss the actual form they take, you're kind of missing the point.
>>
>>25344552
I don't see why we shouldn't poke about in the Citadel!Lump as well as having the Phoenix Empire invade. We've not put our knowledge of the language to any real use in ages.

Also I want to see more of them react to Ssen like Mumei did. Maybe a good boat trip with some naval fun before ruining everything in the Phoenix Empire.
>>
>>25346536
Er, original poster of the above comment. What I mean to say was that dragons are described as being prideful, stubborn, aggressive, think they know what's best for everyone, are possessive towards thing that are "theirs", and such. In contrast, leviathans are seen as intelligent, unable to name things, formulate crazy plans, have a sense of humor based around puns and other such jokes.

With a few exceptions (specifically, desire to hoard physical things and extreme narcissism), all of these traits can be found in Ssen and nearly all of the dragon and leviathan descendents we see (sans Paul). If Ssen grew up in a family of dragons and leviathans, where she was constantly exposed to these kind of behaviors, it would make sense that she would behave similarly.

I guess what I'm asking is, besides her desire to be a paladin, what makes Ssen different from the lamia kids and the other dragon and leviathan descendents we see. I get that family history is obviously going to play a role in a person's tastes and behavior, but it just seems odd that Ssen's behavior is so quintessentially dragon or leviathan when she hadn't even met an intelligent one until the past year or so, and that the members of the other races we've seen (say, Rachel, Avery, and Balles for dwarves; or Lysander and Peri for elves) vary so much in personality.

tl;dr: I'm wondering what character traits are primarily a result of Ssen's personal history, rather than biology.
>>
>>25346688
We should call it the Zitidel...
>>
>>25346907
I like you
>>
>>25346814
Before the quest began Ssen had only a handful of people that even saw her as a person. I don't see Ssen hoarding people. I see her trying to keep the few people that have ever cared about her safe and happy. She really isn't too prideful or narcissistic. I don't really see many dragon traits at all.
>>
>>25346688
Also, I don't think we should destroy the citadel. It is a child that needs to be disciplined and taught the value of life. I mentioned in the last thread that we could turn it into an ant farm or something until it learns to be responsible.
>>
>>25346946
That part I can easily see as personal traits. I mean, it all goes back to that first sentence "Don't want to be alone".
>>
>>25346968
I almost feel a little bad for Citadel. It's freaking out because both of its "mommies" are gone, and now it has no idea what to do.

Note the "little". We still have to do something about it. We can't let it keep going on and making buildings out of people, after all.
>>
>>25346814
The single most powerful and ubiquitous aspect of draconic behavior is the hording instinct. Ssen's "horde" is a willing group of close friends and allies, and even at that she respects their individual wishes (no dragon would allow one-fifth of her horde to die or leave, and yet we've acknowledged Lea's right to choose either of those paths if she feels it necessary or when the time comes). As for all the "leviathan" traits, none of them are unique to leviathans, and we've shown distinctly un-leviathan behavior by using our weird sort of logic to actual effect rather than drifting around... doing whatever it was the leviathans did.

So really, our similarities to dragons and leviathans are superficial at best, except where a little too much of the draconic mindset shows through when Ssen gets worked up. And even that is something we've been trying to avoid.

>>25346688
We definitely should. I mean, this gives us some time to act and plan, but Citadel certainly isn't going to sit and twiddle its thumbs up its proverbial ass while we're out and about.

We should gather as much intel as we can, improve the economic and defensive connections between the rest of what WAS Citadel kingdom, help find ways to reinforce the economy where segments that were too much under Citadel's influence collapsed, and most of all try to rally the people. Because certainly no rational mind could deny that there is something VERY wrong about Citadel now, and our explanation about what happened and what needs to be done will be much more believable.

Really, Citadel's bitchfit in the last session is the best evidence we could have asked for to bolster our position: when it's not eating enough of your souls it throws a temper-tantrum.
>>
>>25347012
Of course.
>>25347026
The Citadel seems content to sit about as a happy lump as the 5th said. It's probably too scared of us considering we personally offed it's mommies in a rather anticlimactic manner
>>
Yo Echo, got a few ideas regarding a few of the suggestions I may or may not have made beforehand, if you want me to email them I can draft them up and send them tomorrow. A tornado kind of sort of got in the way of following this for a while.
Plus Citalump has given me worse ideas.
>>
>>25347026
Speaking of the main cast and the "hoarding instinct", one thing we need to do once we get to a safe city is see if Mage can look into modifying the Dragon Servant bond so it's not as dependent on us. I mean, you saw what happened to Comedy when Peace died. Knowing us, we'll go into some situation, get in way over our heads, and if we go down we end up taking Tricia and Mage with us, even if they're doing something else. Or turn them into Ted 2.0 at best.

It would be especially useful if we ever decide to enact Plan Serpentguard. Because if we boost a lot of our associate's lifespans with the Dragon servant bond, then we've just made us the biggest load-bearing boss in the history of the world. Even if we don't age, we can still be killed by a sharp enough stick, and all someone needs to do is take us out and any operation using the Serpentguard is crippled.
>>
>>25347026
>no dragon would allow one-fifth of her horde to die or leave, and yet we've acknowledged Lea's right to choose either of those paths if she feels it necessary or when the time comes

Good point. I always saw Ssen's interest in expanding her friends lifespans came from the fact that they're some of the only people she has that care about her, and she's scared to death of losing them from old age. She's already lost her father, which would also seem to add to that fear. Honestly, I don't think Ssen ever really got over the bombshell of "you're basically immortal" that Granny dropped on her", and she doesn't seem to be the kind of person that can "live and let live" like Granny does.

How old was Liam when he died anyway? He had to be in pretty good shape when he found Ssen, so that would make him sound like he's somewhere between 20-50, but it seems kind of unusual that he died less than twenty years later given that the average lifespan in the Citadel Kingdom is 85. Ssen is 18-19, right?
>>
>>25347118
The dragon bond is a risky thing to do with other people. Reducing the reliance on us for survival is a real issue long-term, because the rapid aging was the real issue for Comedy
>>
Are nightmares carnivores or omnivores? Looking through the archives, Lightmare is only shown to have eaten meat, but when Peri/Mari tie him up outside Citadel, they say there is fresh grass for him. So do they eat grass in addition to meat?

I think their diet is anything unfortunate enough to get within biting distance.
>>
>>25347392
>Are nightmares carnivores or omnivores?

Omnivores, but given a choice they'll almost always eat meat. They can survive on vegetable matter just fine, they just prefer to know that they're eating someone's flesh, blood, and bone and by another's death, they grow stronger and will live longer.

Nightmares aren't nice creatures. It's fine around you guys, because lamia flesh is poisonous, Tricia's flesh is...well...transitory, Mage has magic, which means months of horrific heartburn, and Lea's flesh has the horrific taint of disease and rot in its flavor.
>>
>>25347477
And Peri's an elf, or enough of one to qualify for it, and Nightmares don't like the taste of elf flesh.

[x] Option 2 leading into option 1.
>>
Anyone still here?
>>
>>25348870
Yo.

It's just there's not much more to talk about. Still, I'd reiterate that using the time Citadel is spending throwing a hissyfit to our advantage would be good. We have quite a few things to deal with, and we have some time to deal with them now that the Dramatae's plots are essentially kaput.

Some good plans include an improved communications network, disseminating farming techniques that will help keep the post-Citadel agricultural output of the Kingdom at a reasonable level, ensuring adequate civil defense, and combating centuries of ingrained bigotry and hostility between the various intelligent races. The latter is particularly noteworthy, since I anticipate a lot more uncorrupted lamias, harpies, nagas, and other intelligent "monsters" to start coming into contact with farmers and townsfolk who will likely be struggling to adapt as it is.

It's not going to be pretty.
>>
>> 25345198
You know, regarding the whole issue of "where are we going to find enough food to feed a bunch of newly sapient, carnivorous monsters", we could always try aquaculture. Farming tilapia is supposed to be something like ten times more efficent in producing meat than farming cattle mm
>>
If we go with option 1 we're going to need a much better map of the continent.
>>
>>25349535
>>25349535
We've been needing a better map for a while now...
>>
Both options have appeal but if I had to choose just one I'd go with Option 2. We need to tie up loose ends and finish what we started, and we never got the chance to meet the other Caligo Clarus.

I also wouldn't say no to a retcon. In retrospect, if we had gone there for a final confrontation there is no way a single critical followed by a successful attack would have been enough to defeat Peace. The willingness to run with the unexpected change was commendable, but I think just letting us maim a Dramatae or two or at best kill Comedy by having her act as a human shield would have been enough payout for that crit. To be honest the victory feels hollow and I would very much have enjoyed the chance to play out the rest of conflict without the sudden victory.
>>
>>25352445
The anticlimactic ending fits the story quite well. Echo said so himself
>>
>>25352445

Anti-climax is half the point. Citadel doesn't get what it wants, that includes climatic battles.
>>
>>25347910
I like this.

Okay, so it looks like we're going with Option 1, but there's going to be a big chunk of world building and changing before the invasion proper starts. Expect there to be some montage/compressed/sped up time, to get you from now to then, so you'll have control over what happens, but you wont have to deal with every meeting regarding crop rotation and grazing rights.

And don't worry, you WILL have option 2 happen. But there'll be some stuff that happens first.

Thanks again to everyone who's still following this, anons and trips. This has been a really fun experience, and I hope you guys have had fun too.
>>
I'm a fan of option 1.

But really, they aren't mutually exclusive. Have option 1 lead into option 2.
>>
>>25353152
I'm okay with this.

Really looking forward to seeing how the world will evolve now that citadel's malignant influence has gone and most of the monsters will become sapient.

In character I can see why an anti-climatic resolution is good and denies Citadel what it wants. Out of character as a person who reads the quest for entertainment it doesn't make the sudden instant victory any more enjoyable.

Suppose it doesn't matter. Don't see anyone else calling for a retcon so there's no way it's happening.
>>
Oh god there's a lamia Q&A thread

echo is probably gone by now, but I have ALL SORTS of ideas.

Julian is now the western sheriff of monstertown, for instance.

Also we should set up expeditions and shit going into the citadel field.

And somebody should, at some point, come at us with a retirement form. (Note: we will probably take it, use with caution)

Also, there will be problems getting the elves to be in charge of first wood, what with it being occupied already. Moral problems.
>>
>>25355040
>Julian is now the western sheriff of monstertown, for instance.
Not really. Julian and Mab are capable of solving their own problems. Lots of people are now, thanks to your actions. You don't have to be everywhere, people can succeed and change things without your presence.

Odds are good that Julian and Mab can open the Grove, now that Comdey and Peace are gone. Julian's plan is to let the monsters go free/take them to Stone Hall, and let the elves have First Wood. Mab's happy to let Julian go, after his apology, but then she's going to be busy taking First Wood back.

>Also we should set up expeditions and shit going into the citadel field.
That is your goal. There's just a few problems. 1) How to get in without being mindwiped, or converted into building materials. 2) THe Lantern Mirrors have to be brought in too, how do you keep THEM from being converted or ripped away from you? 3) There might or might not be a big ass army of people who want the Citadel for themselves.

>And somebody should, at some point, come at us with a retirement form. (Note: we will probably take it, use with caution)

Are you kidding? There are only six Paladins that weren't in Citadel at the time. You, Avery, Balles, Julian, and two others. No way you're EVER retiring now.

>Also, there will be problems getting the elves to be in charge of first wood, what with it being occupied already. Moral problems.

Heh, very true.

>>
>>25355244
>>25355221
Wait a minute, let me re-read that again
>six paladins total outside of citadel
Uh oh. Uh oh a -lot-. This is going to turn out badly. Almost as badly as telling Isen he's the only newgate on the continent.

I guess our first order of business will be getting everyone up to speed.
>>
>>25354654
I kinda like it. We went straight to Citadel, which was a bonehead play that the Dramatae couldn't have expected, created a situation where they couldn't set the rules of engagement, and struck while the iron was hot.

I don't suspect it's the last we've seen of Peace, especially. Souls wearing those masks go straight to Citadel, right? But still, we stopped the monster army, humbled Peace, saved HIS, and prevented the army of Citadel from launching an attack that could have undone what work we've done so far. Not to mention we ruined whatever plans Fifth was secretly cooking up as a bonus.

So it's a very appropriate end for what amounts to a frontal assault. "Who dares wins" and all that.
>>
>>25355343
I fully expect peace and maybe, perhaps, comedy to come back using citadelrevivification.

Though, I had fully expected comedy to deflect that coup-de-gras spear blow, or at least jump in the way like we did with isen. A strange symmetry, that would have been. Though, we've been saying we'll kill someone for some vacation time for many threads now, we've finally followed through on that threat.
>>
>>25355362
Now maybe Peace will understand what it is she's been subjecting people to. They say experience is the first step towards understanding.

Wouldn't that be an unexpected source of aid?

I've been meaning to ask about that.

We do an AWFUL lot of sneaking-around and then stabbing their leader. or subtly inserting agents to publicly disclose the corruption of the ruling class. Or triple agent missions to reduce elf/citadel violence. Or incognito disguise operations to get places unobserved.

Basically what I'm saying is we do an awful lot of sneaky, questionable wetwork for a paladin. Some kind of palassassin.
>>
>>25355715
Though I suggested it, I don't think that sounds quiet... paladiny enough. Maybe "Qui audet adipiscitur"?
>>
>>25355741
The dice gods seem to like sneakyness
>>
>>25355741
I think it has been said in these threads thousands of times already, but lawful good does not mean lawful stupid.

And the closest we got to wetwork was during our raid on The Bear Tribe temple trying to liberate the monster manuals.

>>25355760
I'm okay with either.
>>
>>25355775
>>25355787
Well, we may be disposed to sneakyness, but I mean we completely avoid open battle if at all possible. It's a bit weird in retrospect. I guess we might be naturally predisposed to sneaking, or at least that's what I'm blaming it on because I'm lamia-racist I guess.

How dare you call them monster manuals, now I can't not call them that.
>>
>>25355809
Just box all the books up and sell it as a collection titled "Essential Combat Manuals for Fighting Non-Human Sentients"
>>

Wait, scratch that, throw in the books on fighting humans too and call it the collection of combat manuals sorted by race

or something
>>
>>25355856
>>25355843
we should have countless books on killing humans to use. If not, we can borrow some of the conclave's medical guides and draw in some stabbing-techniques.

Though, the books are really much more than that. The leviathan book, for instance, has a huge cookbook in there. We should read that one day- we ARE planning on making a victory meal for our comrades, are we not?
>>
>>25355741
Winning battles without a battle... it's all very art-of-war, you see.

>>25355956
We fuck that one up sometimes, but yeah. Also, we have a handy Isen to scrape battles/glory off on, when need be. He's our general, like it or not.

>>25356198
Well, citadel DID give him some royalty boosts during the fight against adahn. There was a lot of citadel magic flying around on that one.

we also need a single, insignificant piece of good news to cheer him up.

Like that we're cooking up a meal for everybody.

Or that the little lamia girls are developing quite well in their swordplay.

Something relatively inconsequential to him directly, like that.
>>
>>25356273
he did a big ego-bolstering speech that gave him something like a +1 for the rest of the fight. It wasn't much, but it was there.

>>25356352

>>
>>25356300
>>25356353
Isen's day: 100% ruined.

We should perhaps invite him to join us on the beach after that bit of good news, as we DID tell him we'd invite him along next time we went. Day off and all.

>>25356367
Isen being Isen gives him bonuses from citadel, while citadel bonuses are in play. Citadel supports boastful nobility.
>>
>>25356367
Little bit of column A, little bit of column B. Isen's much like Ava now. Technically the source of their magic is gone, but Ava's already had her connection severed, so she can keep what little she has left to keep her as Ava.

Isen never really HAD any Citadel juice in him. Not really. His demand for his own self-gratification, his narscissim, and unending need to be more than just another paragraph about another Itzak in the Citadel Royal history book...kind of crosswired a few things.

Basically, Isen took a natural connection to magic that his bloodline possessed, warped it, and made it his own. It's nowhere near as strong as any other source, but it's his own and no one else can use it but him, and maybe Tara.

So, the Dragon parallels continue.

And easy guide to self-created bloodline Magic:

Step 1: Be a Dragon...or Isen the Audacious, Lord King of Citadel Kingdom.

May His Light have mercy upon us all.

We really should get Isen and the Old one in a room together. If we could harness the forces at work, we'd be able to power our industrial revolution off of it.

>>
>>25356546
You know what I mean.
>>
>>25356575
yeah, but I doubt he'd do that. He doesn't seem to want to be king, after all.

Though, he may give us some unpleasant orders when we give him the news, as revenge. Though the deployment of my beach plot would most likely prevent such actions.
>>
>>25356412
If thats the case, we should DEFINITELY tell him that he no longer has any plot armor.

The sheer ego boost that his continued invincibility in the face of that will send his power level over 9000, and beyond.
>>
>>25356667
I'm going to hit the hay, so last one. Isen seems to be a pretty important asset here, blood of kings and all. I do wonder whether he or his scary sister is the one with the true claim to the throne.

Speaking of blood magic, I wonder how much time it would cost us to pick up a basic dragon healing spell. Probably months and months.

I really want to go with Option 1. Because it means we get the opportunity to menace dignitaries in their own language.

Okay, so we have spent a long time finding out that the First Lantern is not actually a lantern (which emits His Light) but an array of mirrors (which reflect it to form a fancy magic circle thing) and reconstructing it. It seemed like a good plan at the time.
>...and enter the dome.
>Citadel now has total control of the world
Here's the problem with that ancient plan. Times have changed. There's a massive dome blocking out the sun. There's nothing to reflect except whatever magic ambient light which comes from nowhere Citadel is providing and it is not going to let us kill it with that.

What we need is a Dawnchaser plan to literally bring Light back to Citadel so that we can metaphorically bring Light back to Citadel. Something like fighting the Citadel people for hours until we can unleash the mother of all Beacon flairs or getting inventor dude to build us a brillitite sun, only preferably not as shit.

Dana is totally the optional-water-zone character, yes. I sort of like that.

I don't know if the party will actually expand past 5 people, though I personally want to switch it up a bit. Get each of our party members in charge of their own division of folks, get ourselves some new folks to boss around, and split up to deal with multiple problems at once.

Though, maybe after we steal some whisper flutes from somewhere. I'd like to stay in contact, on a personal note.

In our senile years will we have a zapp brannigan and kif relationship with Mage?

How is mages sister doing?

Mage can straight up do elf magic with his Dagda-ness, if what Mab told us a while back was true. We need to collect on that little part of our treaty. Mage is totally the real Dagda, obviously. I think he already is legally Dagda, in elf law.

If anyone important is still here, I think this quest has carried on long enough that newcomers won't have enough knowledge to play properly.

To remedy that, I think we should compile a complete movelist for the Dawnchasers.

What can Ssen do? Mage? Tricia? Lea? Peri/Mari? Do any of our allies, such as Isen, Julian, or Tara have their own special abilities? It'd streamline things immensely if we put all this into one spot.

Rage's array is most likely offline.

Ssen: There, there daughter dear. I know you feel bad about your boyfriend (or girlfriend) breaking up with you, but I know what will get your mind off it!
Ssen's daughter: *sniffs* W...what?
Ssen: DEICIDE! I'll go get our things!

>>

>>
>>25363288
I believe there are males
>>
>>25363205
Our mind is totally off of how bad we felt that dad was dead, that is for sure.

Though, we'll probably take her to free the phoenix empire, we can't go to Deicide EVERY time. We'd run out. Also, we have the north and south to adventure! to.

>>
>>25363288
>>25363318

I just need to couch this desire in terms that sound official and required of a paladin. Inspection of new citizens. Something like that.

>>
>>25363173
We don't have keys for those networks, though. Rage's granddaughter said her key could only be given freely, not taken, and they're not going to be giving us anything when they're dead. Maybe Mage could rewire them somehow?

And if we are about to die, we will TRY to die without getting much blood on our kids. You know, for their sake.
>>
>>25363321

We don't need to show her the heads, just the masks. She'll believe us when we say that we killed the rest of the Dramatae.
>>
>>25363463
We could just shoo them out of the room or something
>>
>>25363339
Given that lamia seem to be pretty rare (we've seen six in our entire trip, including us, and we know about three others), and Citadel put out a big bounty on us, I'd be worried about us becoming an endangered species in the future. So obviously we have to *cough* inspect *cough* the other members of our species to make sure there are enough healthy adults to keep us going.

All seriousness though, come on guys, that's not fair to Tricia. She shouldn't have to put up with that, especially since we did the dragon bonding ritual. The only way I could see it work is if we had a male lamia or other lizardfolk in the friend-zone that we could ask to be a surrogate father if we want to have "normal" lamia children with Tricia.
>>
>>25363383
Hey, you know how large-bodied snakes mate. The males form a huge breeding ball with the females, with each male using his spurs (which are remnants of the hind legs) to tickle the female until she is receptive.

Does this mean Ssen has a tickling fetish?
>>
>>25363482
and that would kill the immortality we got. We've got too many centuries of screwing with the heads of adventurers and new paladins
>>
>>25363395
Yes, but we have established a difference between Dawnchaser-stupid (which is "stupid like a fox") and regular stupid (which is "the idea is just plain bad")
>>
>>25363516
Agreed. Especially since our immortality is now tied to Tricia and Mage's immortality.
>>
>>25363482
>>25363516
yeah, we'd be just shopping around at best.

Though, that leads to a problem. How does our race become not-extinct if everyone is not having kids so they don't die of old age? I am sort of worried.
>>
>>25363534
Good old fashioned sharp pointed things
>>
>>25363534
Supposedly, we live for centuries even if we had kids at every opportunity. Lamia don't become fully mature until 70 or so (which raises the question of how the hell they maintain a large-enough population to survive, given how long it takes to reach reproductive age).
>>
>>25363383
Why am I suddenly imagining Clang's voice being like "Boxy Brown" from Aqua Teen Hunger Force?
>>
>>25363534

There's bound to be those who get tired of living forever and/or decide that having offspring is more worth it than living for centuries at a time. For all we know, desiring a long lifespan might be anomalous amongst Lamia/Naga.

>>25363339
That reminds me, when we talked to the lizards in Stone Hall, they seemed rather...simple. They were all about breeding and eggs. Is that just because we caught them at a weird time (with the ghoul invasion and all), or is it that dragontongue doesn't really lend itself to deep, thoughful conversation (given how our conversations with the kids went when we found them).

Actually, do lamia even have a culture? All of the lamia we've seen have acted like wild, but intelligent animals (or, to put it another way, like feral humans who have essentially lived on their own all their lives).
>>
>>25363613
Lamia culture either doesn't exist, or involves a few lamia assembling a horde of lizardmen if at all possible. Those are the general paths it seems to go. The ones that are actually intelligent and free from citadel tend to just live out somewhere safe and take game from the nearby lands.

Also, I think it might just be a culture difference. Lizard men are like the french or something.
>>
>>25363613
Or they never had the chance to develop a culture of their own, given that until recently they were second-class citizens living in a literal sewer.

Even if lamia do have a culture, the question also exists of whether it can integrate with everyone else. Since First Wood, there has been a big question of cultural isolation versus integration. Like we saw with the Fey Laws, is it worth keeping old customs because they're yours, even if they're cruel, outdated, and no one else wants them around? But at the same time most people would agree that Citadel paving over your culture is a BAD THING.
>>
>>25363647
>Lizard men are like the french

BRB removing all Mesoamerican cultural styles from my lizardmen and replacing them with Frankish.
>>
>>25363756
Por que no los dos? A species can have more than one culture. Stone Hall lizardmen could be French-inspired, while those in other parts of the world could have a more Mesoamerican-inspired motif.
>>
>>25363809

This would be a considerable and interesting supposition.

IF there were any other colonies of Lizardmen in the world.
>>
>>25363841
you know, there used to be humans to the north and south. Wonder what else is out there.

Also, there's more things on the continent of the phoenix than the phoenix empire. Who knows what's in those.
>>
>>25363841
Citadel managed to get their hands on a bunch, and there were at least some in the area around River's Crossing, given that Ssen's biological father was a lizardman (apparently).
>>
>>25363854
Possibly a not-India (given that the Phoenix Empire is a not-Asia), where lamia and naga aren't treated like feral monsters (perhaps a mashup with that and the Mesoamerican Quetzalcoatl).

I think there are still humans to the north and the south. We almost created not-Canada when we were thinking about chucking Citadel up there where the only damage it could do was "some overly content moose".

That's what I was thinking. We know that has to be a connecting part of the teleport network in Bronze Peak that we never destroyed.
Plus there's the conclave in White Tree. Sure it may be surrounded by racists but it is still there and we have used it before so its still a possibility. Plan on Rage's study to be trapped like anything though.

The Paladin thing. The continent at the moment has a massive lack of Paladins, going by the other posts. We'll need to be on the lookout for those that fit the qualifications more than ever before. Even if we were to only find potential Reds that would be something.

Really, I'd be concerned about that. Not everyone is cut out for being a Paladin.

Also, the new Caligo Clarus were communicating with "our Father" via Peace's bullshittery. I'm not sure we'll be able to tease those events apart at this point, but it does warrant our attention. If Liam has been reanimated in some capacity, we need to re-kill him and counteract any damage Peace has done in his name.

-Please be respectful of anatomical differences between species. For example, if you wish to compliment the tone of a lamia's body, the correct terminology is not "dat ass", it is "doze z-lines".
-Less than 10% of a lamia's diet is made up of fruits, vegetation, and edible tubers. You may think you are trying to be nice by offering a lamia an orange, so please do not be offended if they decline
-It is considered culturally insensitive for children to ask to "ride the snake-train".

Not like the brazen city of gilded fame,
With conquering armies astride from land to land;
Here at our Light-warmed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the all-shining Light, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her Beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Eh, we really only tried to bone-melt one person on this entire quest, and we mercy-killed them before the venom could do much.

Personally, I wonder if the fact that the "basic" lamia venom is the bone-melter is Citadel-related. Think about it, if a lamia has access to venom that is lethal even to other lamia at birth, then what stops a young lamia from accidentally killing its mother if something like the Tricia incident occurs.

But if lamia always have access to the most lethal venom, rather than the less dangerous paralytic, then people are suddenly a lot more wary of being around a lamia (and hence, "disrupting" Citadel's narrative). If someone knows a snake is almost always lethal, they don't even think about going near it.
>>
>>25364304
Well, once Comedy and Peace died you'd imagine a reanimated Liam would come and find us.

As for a cautionary pamphlet, we could make good use of our paladin cred. Suggest caution when dealing with any "monster" -especially lamias- and advise that everyone treat them with respect. Because they're people, and they have souls, and I'd like to think that most of them are fundamentally reasonable.

If a lamia attacks you, defend yourself, but ideally try to live and let live. Same way you deal with anyone else.

That's what's been bugging me from the beginning. Dad was great at taking care of us and definitely loved us and all that, but why did he have to reveal that he killed our biological parents on his death bed? And more importantly, why didn't he mention the whole "they were brainwashed monsters" bit.

Because he waited until his deathbed, Ssen was never really able to process how she felt about her adopted father's actions in terms of their relationship, and their relationship as father-daughter was never able to grow based on that new-found mutual respect and understanding.

I seriously expect Ssen to give Liam a slap to the face as well as a gigantic hug if the two ever do meet again during this quest.
>>

They're cut off. Some might recover, some might not.

I'd imagine it would be similar to when we hijacked the pylons in Comedy's grove, except with everyone.
>>
>>25364397
We should also start an anti-venin magical research center somewhere. Maybe if we can get enough sentient lamias to donate venom, we can come up with a more widescale-use cure for lamia bites if something does happen.

We killed one of them.

I wonder where HIS plans to restablish the church now that Citadel's cut off?

I cant shake this nagging feeling about the location of the tower we were born in. Its at the center of the continent, ideally placed from which to get anywhere. The only problem is its off the Imperial highway. Still that could be changed.
>>
>>25364432

But those ones were being forcibly converted and weren't very far along. The massive monstrous ones who gave in of their own free will will probably continue to be massive and monstrous.

I think Echo implied that Liam couldn't be resurrected by Comedy and Peace because only those who died "in the service of Citadel" had their souls trapped. Otherwise, why would Comedy not reanimate Liam for the macabre dinner of doom, and why did Peace say that the young man in Citadel only "thought" he was communing with Liam's spirit.
>>
>>25364487
Not sure he could, but then again are we sure he was ever there? It might have been a Peace ploy from the beginning, with Liam never even having been involved.
>>25364500
It's a fair point, and certainly nagas like Princess will never be more than pets. But those strike me as only the extremes.
>>
>>25364537
>>25364516
Maybe they *will* change the name of River's Crossing to Serpent's Crossing, given that one of the continent's biggest heroes was born and raised there.

I also just caught the connection between the theme of the Caligo Clarus (change is necessary, even though it can be fearful) and the mythological motif of regeneration and rebirth of the snake. Nice job Echo.
>>
>>25364564
Because we all want the image of Comedy raising Dad, and him going 'Fuck your orders, Imma crusade instead." to be a real thing.
>>
>>25364574
What are we going to do about the "domestic" lamias and nagas? We can't cure them, we can't necessarily free them, but at the same time its difficult to let this trend keep perpetuating. Not to mention someone could kidnap a child naga or lamia, tramautize them from a young age, and then try to pass them off as a "domestic" one.

I wonder, do "domestic" lamias and nagas exhibit unusual patterning like some specially bred lines of snakes in captivity do?
>>
>>25364596
We should really check in with that blacksmith. The new one who is only there because they chased the old one out.

We should also make sure the place isn't on fire.

Hey, if trying to set Mage up with Mab, HIS, or Sophie fails, we could always try to get him a hot (French) lizardgirlfriend at Stone Hall.

Lizardwoman: <Embrasse-moi mon chaud rayon de soleil, et dis-moi que tu m'aimes!>
Mage: *Screams externally*
>>
>>25364658
It would be nice to see if we could meet with some of our other friends in River's Crossing as well. Having re-read the first chapter, it seems as though there were at least a couple of people we were friends with before we left on our big adventure.
>>
>>25364596
Even the serpent in the garden of Eden could be seen that way.

If God is omniscient and omnipotent, then it was predestination that the Serpent tempted Eve with the fruit of the tree of knowledge: possibly because He knew exactly what it would do to humanity to give them that knowledge.

Perhaps the Light is doing something similar? Delegating the task that has to be done to a "lesser being" that can handle it?

I've actually been surprised that there aren't more positive depictions of serpents in fantasy and science-fiction out there, especially given that we now know snakes are more like our reptilian rat-catching allies than demons.

Though, I suppose the "alienness" of snakes and their limbless way of locomotion is too good to pass up using for horror.

>I wonder, do "domestic" lamias and nagas exhibit unusual patterning like some specially bred lines of snakes in captivity do?
Good question. I remember a bit about that documentary where the Russian scientist figured out that the less aggressive animals developed spots and odd colouration.

Worst case scenario we set up a eugenics program.
>>25364749
That might be a bit too extreme.

The most efficient method from what I can see would be to find intelligent male nagas or lamia and have them breed with the less intelligent domestic nagas. This way the intelligent female nagas and lamias such as ourself wouldn't have to sacrifice their nigh immortality. At least for a bit.
Given the small population base family trees would have to carefully kept track of for any of this to work and it might take a few thousand years.
>>
>>25364851
Custody could be transferred until a family cannot or will not support them, at which point they would become wards of the state.

Because Citadel Kingdom has bred intelligent beings into non-sentient pets, and they need to pay the price for it.
>>
>>25364873
>find intelligent male nagas or lamia and have them breed with the less intelligent domestic nagas.

You mean like having sex with a retarded person so that they have smarter children?
>>
>>25364911
Or beasiality
>>
>>25364873
There may be such a thing as "too extreme" in this case, but that's not it. Breeding them back into intelligent populations has some theoretical advantage to it.
>>
All jokes aside, we're seriously not going to touch another person. No Harem, no Isen, nothing. That would be a horribly vile thing to do to Tricia, to whom we are super-married, if you recall, and whom Ssen loves dearly. Seriously, fetishistic, grossly sexual harem antics are not cute, they're Citadel.
>>
>>25364911
It could work. There are magical bloodlines involved, and depriving the current "pets" of their near-immortality would make that less of a thing in the future.
>>
>>25364979
Happy, sisterly snake-cuddles aren't sexual harem acts.

http://www.nwbloodlines.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=14
>>
>>25365140
Then how do you propose we deal with the fact that under Citadel there was an attempt to breed an entire race of people into pets?

We're not talking about marrying inner-city black people and asians to raise test scores or some similarly retarded plan. We're talking about a race of people that have been systematically reduced to nothing more than livestock.

If trying to fold them back into the population of their sentient bretheren reverses some of that damage, then it's worth entertaining as an option.
>>
>>25365087
