Continuing from last night, it's VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/VmhjYJLF

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You've arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, which you repaired and rechristened the Vergeltung.

After rooting out several Imp spy rings and fighting off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher, you've decided that it's now time to move on to greener (or at least more profitable) pastures. You and the Demons left Albion for the besieged nation of Ustio, with new gear and squad members in tow.

Your first mission went well enough, routing a platoon of Imperial soldiers threatening the city of Valais' supply lines. Then you destroyed an Imperial superheavy artillery battery, taking pressure off the city's beleaguered defenders and giving them a chance to counterattack. You also took care of a personal mission for Qyburn, and in return, he's given you a new and powerful (if only experimental) weapon!

You also captured an Imperial sniper who might consider joining your cause. However, right now, it's time to plan out your next mission!

The word is:
Sleep.

You, Sam, and Freyberg spend the next two weeks meticulously planning out the mission details for the attack on Solis. You would have rather attacked the fuel depot as quickly as possible, but Solis was an Imperial strongpoint, and wasn't something you could simply assault and take in a day.

So, scouts were sent out, intel was gathered. Freyberg had his men round up every Ustian partisan they could in the area and shake them down for information. It seemed like Solis was near impregnable, until you hit a breakthrough.

A few days ago, Freyberg's men came across a group of partisans who had managed to escape Solis before it was occupied by the Imps. They gave information about an old escape shaft in Ustian controlled territory that led directly to the mines under Solis. However, it was too small and dangerous to fit an army through, but perfect for small, elite unit...

"This will be dangerous, but you'll be able to bypass most of the Empire's defenses. Plus we'll stage a diversionary attack to draw their attention" Freyberg says. "The question is whether you want to handle this mission during the night or the daytime."

You frown. Daytime meant it was easier to move around, but easier to detect. Night time reduced the chance of detection, but was more dangerous in its own ways.

>We'll strike during the day.

"We'll go in at night." You say. "Better for a small team like ours."

"Of course." Freyberg nods. "There's also the question of collateral damage..."

"Freyberg, I know your bosses want the ragnite fuel intact. That's the whole point of this mission."

"No, it's not that." Freyberg shakes his head. "It's a personal concern of mine. At it's peak, Solis was a town of 10,000 people. Most of them evacuated, but a fair number are still there, and no doubt the Imperials brought in additional prisoners as forced labor..."

You seem to know where this conversation is going. "You want us to rescue any civilians we find?"

"We'll do what we can." You tell Freyberg with all the conviction you can muster. You've seen what the Empire did to Gallian citizens during the invasion, and you wouldn't wish that on anybody.

"Thank you, Captain." Freyberg gives a tired smile. "You should get going. The attack is scheduled to begin in 36 hours."

It takes a few hours to get the Demons organized and moving out, but soon you're leaving Valais once again to venture into the Ustian mountains.

>>25350740
I think that went out the door when she BURNED HIS FAMILY HOME DOWN.
>>
>>25350680

Just to note, I never supported Heloise and Alek, her pic just screamed jailbait too much for my tastes...

Which might be why she has trouble finding boyfriends. Looks too much like a little sister.
>>
I just hate the Alek threesome/foursome idea. That shit needs to stop because it's fucking retarded.
>>
>>25350792
I will agree to that. But shipping in general...I like.
>>
>>25350457
"Actually, let me see that briefing again." You say. It would also help pass the time spent on the trip.

"Whoa, holy shit, are you some kind of Imp body double?" Sam narrows her eyes. "The real Jager would never stoop to sparing effort to READ."

"Hey, it's really me, Sam." You laugh and take the folder from her.

Reading it over, you suppose that for such a complicated plan, the meat of it was surprisingly simple. The mines around Solis had three primary entrances that tankers could use to ferry fuel in and out. The entrances also served as openings for pipelines that fed directly to the ragnite fuel reservoirs. The primary objectives were cave in all three mine entrances and destroy the pipeline control center, which was located outside of the mines.

You sigh and lean back in your seat. Glancing over, you can see that the story of Elsa's "assault" on Alek had spread to the rest of the Demons, despite Tarin and Isolde being the most tight lipped people in the squad you know. You can see Ramirez and Brillant giving Alek knowing nudges and thumbs up, with Alek having a look of utter exasperation on his face.

"Sir, I got a situation up ahead." Julia warns over the radio.

"What've we got?" you ask.

"Civilians on the side of the road. They're trying to wave us down.

>Stop and let's see what they want.

No but it's pretty clear that she is not jailbait and IIRC the one that remotely looks like Jailbait is Julia, confoundly so given her experience.

>>

While I think talking about it is hilarious. Though so impossible because of personality it is effectively nothing but a joke.

Honestly, I don't care too much about the pictures. Gotta use your imagination.
>>
>>25350917

That's the type of logic people use to try and send people to jail over dating someone who looks younger then they are.

Though honestly this conversation path is a little pointless since we don't control those characters and so can't define anything about what they do.
>>
>>25350955

I love how you strawman my argument by involving Karla despite me saying nothing about it.

Why yes, appearance happens to factor into my decisions as well as personality, big whoop. My point is that she looks too young for my tastes, if you don't share that, fine, good for you. But my inclinations will reflect my impression, and really I'm not that too interested in her, and not because of just appearance, but I don't see anything particular special about her personality (though she's a plucky girl, I'll give her that).

You hear a round of affirmatives and you can see them beginning to scan your surroundings

"Is there something I can help you with?" You ask, making sure your shotgun is within easy reach.

"Well, rumor has it, the Ustian army is planning to make a move on Solis." One man, most likely the group's leader, steps forward. You notice a makeshift eyepatch over his eye. "We were wondering if there was any truth to that."

The man gives a good, hearty, genuine laugh. "And so you are! Well then, best of luck to you, then!"

And with that, the man and his group melt away into the mountain brush.

"What the hell was that about?" Sam frowns.

"I think we just politely refused their help." You shrug. "Never did like having to talk in circles."

The rest of your trip continues without any interruptions or problems. Within the hour, you come across an ancient looking mine entrance, carved into the mountain wall. It looks as if hasn't been maintained in a long time.

"Well, THAT looks inviting..." Sam sighs.

"Hey Captain, I think I can fit Fenrir though that entrance, but... I don't know. It seems a little unstable..."

"Julia, Headcase, you two stay behind and keep an eye on the entrance. We can't risk the mine caving down on us."

"Hey, coffee break? Coffee break!" Headcase says happily.

"Oh, so you think Fenrir here is too fat for your liking? FINE." Julia huffs.

"Tankers." You sigh quietly to yourself. "Alright, Demons let's move!"

The mine is dark and dusty, but thankfully free of Imps. It's also fortunately a single tunnel, so it's impossible to get lost. After a few minutes of careful advancement, you come across a large, well lit chamber, meaning you've reached the main mine.

"Okay, we need to figure out what to do." Sam rolls out the map again. "Before we destroy the pipeline, we need to plan the charges on the mine entrances. Freyberg's attack begins in two hours. We can either approach the entrances from the outside but it's much faster. Or, we could sneak through the mine tunnels. Which will take longer but is more secure."

So, a politician? I mean sure, most politicos have OTHER people to use force for them, but never underestimate just how immoral and monstrous politicians can be. Remember that it was politicians who started both World Wars, and kept the Cold War going so long. No, they have their tamed wolves rip his throat out in secret instead. Sir Erik Schnee has too much honor to be a politician, and I owe him an apology for my insult.
The time has come for this to stop. The age of old men talking and young men dying must end. Between the Demons of Randgriz, and the Knights of Belka, we have the power to end it. Fortunately, the Imp guards are all stationed outside the the mouth of the mine, meaning it's perfectly possible for you to plant the charges without them noticing. The only complication is if a tanker truck decides to arrive, though those come through on predictable intervals, so they should be easy enough to avoid.

Just two ragnite charges should be enough to collapse the entrance. They're timed to go off in two hours once they're set, though the timing can be modified to better synchronize detonation times.

One the one hand, you can send on person in to plant the charges. It would take longer, but they would be harder to spot. Or you could send two people to plant both charges at once.

There's also the question of WHO. For example, Tarin was the stealthiest, but Heloise was the most knowledgeable on explosives.

With your first objective done, you backtrack down to a connecting tunnel which will lead you to the second mine entrance. You link back up with Brillant, who informs you that the two workers left without incident.

Unfortunately, Tarin, who's leading the way, takes a peek around a bend in the tunnel and turns back to you.

The stormtroopers walk by without even noticing you. However, you stay in position for a few more minutes just to make sure they are well and truly gone.

Moving out again, you finally reach the second mine entrance. By this point, it's about fifteen minutes to Freyberg's scheduled attack.

The second entrance is less heavily guarded. Only about eight or so troops. However, the problem here is that they're milling about inside the entrance itself.

"Heloise." You whisper. "Any chance we can just plant the charges in the tunnel itself?"

"I don't know." Heloise frowns. "The rock in this mountain is pretty solid. The entrances are the structurally weakest parts of the mine. Trying to cave in the tunnels themselves with the amount of explosives we have... I don't know if it'll work."

The storm of fire is enormous, and stuck in a narrow tunnel with relatively little cover, the guards don't stand a chance. Unfortunately, one of the frag rounds, you can't quite tell whether it's Sam's or Isolde's, misses its mark badly and flies straight out of the mine entrance, swerving wildly into the air before slamming into a parked tanker, causing it to explode in a fireball.

"Well, I guess there's our distraction." You grumble. But now the Imps definitely knew something was up. You get the charges planted on the second entrance.

"Cap, We've only got an hour and forty minutes to plant the rest of the charges, and the Imps are on alert. Maybe we should just make a straight shot for the last two objectives rather than spend more time in the mines..."

"We're under attack! Report back to your duty station and await further orders!" The driver yells, clearly exasperated. After all, he's got better shit to waste his time on. "Now get off the goddamn road!"

You step off to the side and smartly salute as the cars pass by.

"I didn't think that would work!" Sam breathes a sigh of relief.

"Neither did I." You admit.

"Hey, what's that?" Ramirez points off to the east.

You squint and see Imp soldiers herding civilians and workers alike to a compound of buildings. Most likely it was a sort of prison camp or housing complex for the workers. You then remember Freyberg's request, but that definitely takes you out of the way of your objective and puts on additional risks of detection.

You check your watch. 1 hour until detonation.

>>

Yeah something like this. Really we need to finish the mission first and foremost. But if we can split the squad in such a way we can do both, better.
>>
Rolled 10

>>25355712
Split up.

Tarin, Heloise and Alek go set up the charges and we go rescue the civs. How's that sound?
>>
>>25355754

The lower amount of people sent the less likely we will be spotted. My first urge is to send Tarin+Ramirez+Heloise
>>
>>25355754
Second
I'd really like Alek to be here since his ATR could prove useful.
We've seen what they do at Fouzen, lets prevent that here.
>>
Have Alek, Isolde and Jager take the civvies, while Tarin and Heliose take the next objective. Preferably have Alek in a position where he can cover both Jager and Tarin.
>>
>>25355778
Yes let's have the two Imps go with the Imp Hater (read have -1 to rolls)
>>
>>25355754
I think I worded that wrong, I meant to have Alek provide overwatch for them while they set up and preferably us if possible
>>
>>25355783

Yeah. On the other hand +1 with Isolde and keep alek so far away he won't be effected.
>>
>>25355754

Supported, Tarin and Heloise can set up the charges while Alek covers them.
>>
>>25355768

Erm. Are you sure you want to send Darcsen there?

Especially an engineer, who would be the best at planting charges?

... I'm honestly not sure if having Darcsen go would be good or bad here...

Hey, er, do we have another engineer with us?
>>
>>25355754

Works for me.
>>
>>25355812

Mean send them to the mine opening. Jager+the rest goes to the civs. Though thinking on it we might want to add a lancer.
>>
>>25355754
I like it.
>>
>>25355754
sure, why not.
>>
>>25355804
should we also have Alek cover Jager as well?
>>
>>25355712
"Tarin, Heloise, you move on to plant charges on the third entrance. Alek, you give them some sniper cover. The rest of us are going to stage a jailbreak."

"Roger." Tarin nods and leads Heloise away while Alek stalks off to find a good vantage point.

That leaves you, Ramirez, Sam, and Isolde to assault the prison compound. Moving forward, you see that most of the guards have been pulled away. You see only four men manning the gatehouse, with two men in elevated, makeshift towers.

Sam and Isolde manage to hit their targets, their lance rockets causing both towers to explode in a shower of fire and wood. Unfortunately, you and Ramirez's grenades fall short, exploding harmlessly in the field. The four gate guards, now on alert, begin spraying fire wildly in your direction.

don't spread out too thin. We're just here to get the civvies and screw the mine openings. further risks are not necessary

I don't feel like dealing with more Imps because we let those two get away. Really the only two that could catch them would be Jagar and Ramirez. Plus, I figure we have enough brains not to chase too far away. Just enough to at try and kill them. If they get past a point just head back to the other two. But just letting those two go without so much at least giving them some parting shoots is foolish to me.

You can barely make out the fleeing Imp's outline in the darkness when there's a huge puff of what is presumably blood, and the Imp falls over. Considering he was hit by a .50 cal round, it was pretty safe to say he was dead.

"Sam, report." You say.

"We've rounded up the civilians." She says. "There's about two hundred here in all."

"Alright, we'll lead them back to the escape route." You say, checking your watch. Forty five minutes until detonation.

"Tarin, Heloise, status?"

"Charges are planted, but Heloise took a hit." Tarin announces.

"Shit. What's her condition?"

"Alive. Got a few broken ribs but nothing life threatening."

"It hurts to breathe!" Heloise complains.

"Okay, mission accomplished, Demons. We did all we can, now let's get out of here!"

With that, it's a simple matter to escort the civilians to the escape route. Halfway back, you can feel the vibrations as the charges detonate, blocking off all access to the ragnite fuel stores.

"Good job Demons." You say proudly as you finally exit the mines for good. "Let's get out of here."

---

"What's the damage?"

"Access to the ragnite reservoirs has been cut off. A couple of pipelines are still intact, we can't draw enough out to completely meet demand, and it'll take months to safely remove the rubble!"

"It's certainly distressing. How much fuel do we have left?"

"According to my estimates? If we keep using up supplies at current levels, we'll be out of fuel within two months."

"Unacceptable. I want full production back right now."

"B-but the Ustians are sure to attack soon, especially with our entire plan in shambles!

"You worry about getting the reservoirs operation again. I will worry about security."

"As you wish milord."

"It seems that we really do have a worthy enemy in these mountains..."
