Events Summary:

You disguised yourself as a subordinate of the lich, Magnock, to infiltrate his base and save your friends.

However, before you could escape, the lich Yi Fang appeared, backed by powerful angels and the forces of the Ringed City. Fang destroyed Magnock with ease, and you confronted him, prepared to hold out while your friends teleported to safety. To your surprise, Fang was willing to negotiate, and quickly wrapped you up in a scheme to escape back to Archon right under the nose of the angels.

It wasn't long before you encountered Sandalphon - the Most High, leader of the angels. While Abigail avoided notice, he honed in on you, demanding that Fang, who was pretending that you were his summon, turn you in for study. Unwilling to endanger your allies, you submitted to capture.

The angel Michael, one of the greatest healers in the world, is responsible for your 'examination'. But a curse he received from a Demon Lord twisted his mind into that of a psychotic madman - and you were at his mercy.

Auriel is working with him to restore her powers. You communicated with her telepathically, begging her for help and informing her of Michael's insanity. Before she acted, however, you managed to burst free of your cage and attack and consume Michael.

You snuck into the city sewer's and used them to access the underground complex holding the souls of many Shadow and Spirit mages captive. You destroyed the magic holding them in place - and the suddenly-freed slaves immediately turned on their masters, throwing the city into chaos.

Intent on helping them escape, you rushed to the Airship Noiralev to consume its core and use its power, but you ran into Auriel and Flint in the engine room. They explained that they'd found the remains of one of Michael's victims. That - combined with Flint's encouragement, and her own experiences - has lead her to put her trust in you.

Ability Tree

GREEN abilities have been unlocked and learned.

BLUE abilties are unlocked, but are not yet purchased.

RED abilities are revealed, but locked due to prerequisites.

UNDERLINED abilities are active-use, as opposed to passive. Not all active abilities require mana.

Unlocked Ability Descriptions:

Books the Main Character has read:

http://pastebin.com/dAXR00gP

-----------
Active (intent-use abilities that don't require mana)
-----------

Consume - Devour the latent energy of enemies and magical artifacts to add to your own power and restore your health.

Glide - Your aura allows you to glide, dropping safely from large heights or covering large distances if starting from a high position. Gliding is always stealthier than flying.

Flight - Spread wings of darkness to soar through the air. Carrying capacity is based on physical strength.

Supersonic - Fly at supersonic speeds. You'll move extremely fast, but suffer a large penalty to stealth and magic stealth. Takes 1 turn to activate.

Mimic - Take on the vague form of things you've seen. Won't stand up to close examination, but works well in the dark.

Snuff - You shadow can put out the lights it touches.

Blink - Sight-range teleportation. (Cannot blink through walls, through the ground, into places you can't see, etc. 5-turn cooldown in battle. Auto-cooldown if battle ends. You can only Blink yourself and inanimate objects on your person. Max range 1/4 mile or 0.4 kilometers)

Focus - With a burst of concentration, you can significantly improve your detection of both the mundane and magical, but you also drastically increase the risk of giving yourself away. (think sonic ping)

Deep Focus - Long-range focus with heightened detection and scouting ability, but with a correspondingly higher chance of revealing yourself.

Berserk - Ignore your defenses and strike all around you in a vicious physical assault. Difficult to determine friend from foe.

Shadow Eater - Eat an enemy's shadow for a small heal. Their shadow will regenerate over the course of a day. However, things might turn sour if they notice their shadow is missing...

Doom Aura - Puts out all lights in an area at once. Large penalty to dodge if used during battle.

Compress - By sacrificing strength and defense, you can compress yourself and your aura to the size of a small mouse, greatly increasing dodge and physical and magical stealth. Warning: requires a turn to activate and deactivate.

-----------
Spells (and other abilities that DO use mana)
-----------

Shadow Strike - Strike the foe with needles of darkness. (base power 2. Costs 2 mana)

Shadow Assault - Launch a flurry of shadowy projectiles at the enemy. (base power 4. Costs 4 mana. Can hit multiple enemies)

Shadow Beam - A concentrated beam of shadow power. Attacks faster than shadow strike/assault, and is more accurate. (Costs 6 mana; 6 base damage)

Nightflare - Disrupt target spell or enchantment. (costs 2 mana)

Nightblaze - Cancel enchantments and spells in an area around you. Success and range based on mana spent. (Spend 4 to 10 mana. Radius: 30 feet. Additional 20 feet per mana. Alternate: Spend 10 mana to attempt to cancel any one single spell in sight-range with a greatly enhanced success rate)

Shadowmeld - Magic-based stealth. Pay any amount of mana. Physical and magical stealth increases based on how much mana was spent until stealth is broken. Can be used to re-stealth mid-battle.

Shade - Create an illusory projection of yourself to confuse enemies. (dodge buff. Costs 1 mana)

Spirit Whip - Lash the enemy with a whip of spirit magic. (base power 2. Costs 2 mana)

Bind - Trap an enemy in ropes of spirit magic. May spend 0 to 10 mana (determines strength).

Water Strike - A pressurized blast of water imbued with magical force. (2 base power. Costs 2 mana)

Heal - Spend either 2, 4, or 6 mana to heal a target 4, 7, or 10 HP, respectively.

>Last time...

<Auriel.>

The angel stops for a moment.

<Thank you.>

She doesn't respond, but continues on out of the room.

You turn to Flint.

"So," he says. "How's it going?"

<...I've been better. But I don't think I'll ever have a better friend than you.>

"...Shadow...what's happening right now...it's going to change things," he says. "You have to be careful."

<I might not have time to be careful, Sir Flint.>

"Always with Sir Flint," he mutters. "Just call me Donovan already."

<As you wish, Donovan.>

He makes a face. "When you say it like that, it barely makes a difference."

<Do you wish to know what happened?>

Flint pauses for a moment, then nods. "Tell me everything."

So you do. You send him impressions of everything that happened.

At the end of it, Flint's sitting on the floor, breathing hard. "...holy shit. That was one fucked up maniac you ate."

<Where is Abigail, and Obis?>

"Abigail is with Fang. In Archon, I'd presume," he says. "Obis mentioned that he wanted to find that Blackwater person. He said he was headed for Port Vanta. That was a week ago, though, now."

The airship begins to turn. You both shift slightly as the momentum changes.

"Attention, crew of the Noiralev!" Auriel's voice comes in crackly over the loudspeakers. "This is Auriel Lightchosen, Fifth Highest. I'm now the commanding officer on this ship. And if you chose to remain, you - along with myself, and Lieutenant Tyrael - are now traitors to the order of the Most High."

You and Flint both look at each other, then back to the speaker.

"For some hundred years, I have begun to doubt," Auriel says. "I have heard the whispers. In public, I denied them. But in my heart...in my heart, they have grown. Silently, and in great uncertainty. But they are there, and I believe this is the day on which they have been realized.

"When the Ring City was founded - when I helped found it - I rejoiced, for I believed we had brought from the ashes of the Great War the new seed of civilization. When the elections for the first ruling council of Heavensgate were held, I was there to shake the hands of those who wanted to build a new home for their people. With great hope, I believed something new would come from this. Something great. We would have peace.

"When Sandalphon appointed himself leader of the council, years later - I said nothing, for we faced great danger from Archon. We needed strength.

"When Sandalphon authorized the enslavement of Shadow mages, I said nothing, because I believed it was necessary to maintain peace.

"When we established full military rule over the Empire to fight the 60 Years War, I said nothing, because I believed it was necessary. And I said nothing when Sandalphon extended that dictatorship indefinitely, because we then faced the Black Lady.

"How is it, that what began in such hope, ended in constant, unending war? The common denominator, in this, is not our enemies. They have changed. No - the common thread throughout all of this, has been us.

"Long have I meditated on this subject, and I realize that the reason I stayed silent was for the same reason we all stayed silent: because I was a coward. Because I was afraid of being labeled a sympathizer. Because I was afraid to believe that those of the lesser elements could be good, could be pure, because of what they had done to me. Because I was afraid that peace would make me, in all my strength, irrelevant, and that I would live out my days as an artifact of lessons learned.

"The time to speak has come and gone - and I said nothing. But today, I hope to make up for my own cowardice.

"Look out the windows. See our own city be destroyed by our own forces because Sandalphon cannot tolerate the idea that the Shadow might be free.

"But I tell you this: if we never give them a second chance, then we don't deserve one ourselves. This is what I have come to believe. I refuse to abide by laws that have grown stale and corrupt with mindless repetition. Today, I do what I believe is right.

"The Noiralev turns onto the Ring City. We are going to extract as many shadow mages as we can, and then we are going to run. And from there - we forge our own path. If that doesn't sound like something you're interested in, then get the hell off my ship. No hard feelings.

"Full speed toward the city. Raise the main front shields! Half power to the side cannons, one quarter top and bottom! Move it!"

The voice cuts out.

"...I think I might be in love," Flint says. He looks at you. "Told you she'd come around."

<...good call.>

The speaker next to you both crackles. "Hey, you two! What's it look like down there?"

"Uh...uh...uh..." Flint darts around the room. The machines churn and pound in haste, and the sound increases as energy is shunted to various parts of the ship. "...everything looks fine! Power readings good!"

"Shadow, do something useful and get on that damn dynamo. Give it some juice or something!"

<How?>

"I don't know! Do Shadowy stuff!"

Her voice cuts out.

<That was not helpful.>

Flint just shrugs.

FUCK YES.

LET'S DO THIS SHIT.
>>
He thinks for a moment, then looks around the room. He jogs up to a panel full of buttons and dials, and, after a brief search, finds what he's looking for, and hits it.

A screen above the panel lights up. You can see a view of the mountains behind the ship. "...that's the aft...let's see..." He flicks a nob near the button.

The view jumps to the bow of the ship. You can see the battle in progress, crystal clear - horribly clear. A cloud of angels sits above the city, channeling their power into some kind of huge spell that radiates out in a massive circle of light. It spins slowly. You can feel the energy building.

Smaller battles play out below. Clouds of shadow burst against walls of light. Beams of magic flicker and strike against one another like a laser light show. Inside the city, a great cloud of shadow is beginning to build, forming into what seems to be some kind of large, enveloping shield. Territories are firmly established - the angels, above and around the city, and the shadow mages within it.

"...that spell..." Flint whispers. He's staring at the giant, glowing ring. "That's the Sun Call. Elements preserve us."

<What's the Sun Call?>

Flint ignores your question and pounds another button. He shouts into the speaker. "Auriel...uh...Captain!"

"What?" comes an annoyed squack.

"That spell! Do you see that?!"

"I'm staring at it out the bridge windows."

"We've got to stop that thing! They're going to anihillate the entire city! There's innocent people down there, for Light's sake!"

"I'm aware," Auriel says. "Shadow! Whatever you're going to do to help, it better happen, fast!"

What do you do?

>consume the dynamo; use the raw power to attack

Try to resonate with it and then direct it's power.

We should probably send out a call for the shadow mages to converge on our location, having them shove energy into our hunger shard should allow us a number of options, like busting the ships shields beyond the absurd with Isolation or manually activating and empowering the teleportation systems.

You leap onto the dynamo.

Your senses jolt with a sudden, newfound awareness. You can feel the ship. Lines of mana extend from the dynamo - from you - like veins. The magic shielding surrounding the hull feels like a second skin that you can morph at will. The system directs itself, but you feel as though you could push, shove, override the programming that's already there.

<Auriel!> you shout. <What are we aiming at?!>

"The spell, dammit!" she says through the speaker. "No point if that thing destroys all the mages, and the rest of the city with it."

Flint shakes his head. He's covering his eyes with his hands. "...I can't believe Sandalphon would think like this. If he can't control them, he'll just kill them all, the city included?"

<Believe it,> you say.

You feel the guns on the front of the ship slowly swivel to face the ring of light. What do you do?

>spin the dynamo like a top, pushing more power into it.! Trust the Captain to do her thing.

There are plenty of places where we could've died from our failure. We were dangerously close to failing to sway Auriel to our side last night. We can't let that fear of failure stop us now, we never would've gotten this far if we let it get to us.

If we fail here, we become a martyr, a hero to every shadow and spirit mage that makes it out alive. Our ideal will continue, even if our revolution doesn't.

Death may be a result of your actions...but it is not your goal. You need to save the mages; you need to counter that magic.

Maybe if you focus your magic into the dynamo, it can be channeled into the ship's weapons?

You begin to press your power forward....

...it's whipped into the dynamo! The swirling black pulses with power, taking on a slightly different hue, a dark mixture with added essence of Shadow.

Something inside you hums...Isolation.

The ships cannons fire.

Lines of black light erupt from the guns. They speed toward the swarm of angels. A battalion of them splits off, throwing up a flurry of shields. The cannon fire slams into the magic.

And passes right through.

The cannon fire slams into the spinning circle, and explosions of shadow rip across its surface. The wheel of light fractures, and stops spinning. But even as you watch, the cracks begin to heal...the angels pour more energy back into it, determined to save the spell.

"Weapons recharging!" Flint says. "45%!" He glances at you. "That slowed them down, but - oh, shit!"

The battalion of angels that tried to stop the spell outright is now speeding toward the airship!

"Keep our aim on the spell!" Auriel's voice commands. "Harm as few as possible! Prepare for boarding action!"

Below, the shadowy shield continues to build. They're trying to fortify themselves against attack - they must have thought the Noiralev was coming to assist their enemies. But they do still have the Sun Call to worry about.

"...what the..." Flint is bent over his readouts. "...Shadow...what the hell?"

<What is it?>

"The jump drive," Flint says. "It's at 10% charge!" He slaps the panel. "That's three days worth! What did you do?"

Isolation rings out to you. <...I'm not sure,> you say.

"If you can get that working, we've got an escape route!" he says.

We need to tell them to get their asses out of there, and disrupt the spell long enough for them to do so. Hopefully, if the angels aren't total psychos, they'll stop trying to nuke the city when they realise the shadow mages aren't in it any more.

1) call out to the shadow mages

and then

2) focus on firing upon the building spell

There's probably some reasonable angels out there capable of seeing their error, like Auriel, which is why we're not killing them all now. But the higher-ups in charge? I sincerely doubt it. And Sandalphon himself is just fucking nuts.

The guns are still charging. You might be able to ramp them up quicker...but right now, you need to get the shadow mages on board.

You reach through the ship. You can feel them - lines of mana connect them in a tight net. You direct your power to the external speakers.

Your voice booms out over the city. <Mages! You've been freed! The Noiralev fights at your side! You cannot linger in the city. Make way to the ship!>

For a few moments, nothing happens. But then, a flock of dark lights splits off from the cloud of shadow, hurtling toward the ship!

Light flares from the angels. They target the mages while they're in the open. Cover fire erupts from the cloud on the ground to protect their allies. The vicious blasts of magic collide. The force explodes in midair.

More than a few shadow mages die, but the majority make it through, landing on the top of the ship. Before you can think to do so, Auriel's control room is already opening the hatches closest to their position.

The incoming angels reach the ship, heading straight for the weakest point - the opened up top! Battle erupts on the outside of the hull. The shadow mages desperately defend their position as they retreat into the hull, but they're severely outnumbered.

In the meantime, though, you've focused on charging the guns, and they're back up to full power much faster than they would have been otherwise.

"Guns at 98%!" Auriel shouts. "Shadow, get ready!"

What do you do?

>try to direct the ship's shields at the boarding angels; protect the shadow mages
>focus nightblaze's essence into the guns. The spell is almost back where it was before your first strike.
>try to charge the jump drive
>leave the engine room and help fend off the angels in person

You put your power into the guns again.

They fire.

But this time, the angels react differently. A plume of white light expands from their core. The spell cuts off the ship's cannon fire, and it blows up early. Some of the angels die, and others drop from the sky, their magical flight cut out. But the Sun Call sigil is preserved.

The spinning increases in speed. You sense a massive presence at its center...Sandalphon is directing the spell personally.

The mages on top of the ship are throwing up a valiant defensive, but they're begin cut down at an alarming rate by the attacking angels. You can feel points of Light on the inside of the ship!

Another flock of shadow mages leaves the ground! Again, there's an exchange of attacking magic and cover fire. Most of the mages make it out alright.

A battalion of angels breaks off from the sky-based force and heads down, directly into the darkened cloud. Their spells don't have any effect on the defensive barrier, but they're able to pass through directly.

The ship rumbles. Flint is thrown back. He groans, then crawls back upright.

<You alright?!>

"Still kicking. What was that? He flicks the nob next to the camera, switching the view. "The angels didn't - oh, SHIT!"

The panel is stopped on the image of an approaching airship. It doesn't look friendly.

"That's the Ragnarok!" Flint shouts. "It can't jump...but it has a core of light. It's the most powerful assault ship in the Empire's arsenal!" He looks at his dials. "...shields at 75% power. We can't take too many hits like that one. Shit. Shit!"

Auriel's voice crackles over the loudspeaker. "Squads 3 and 4, get upstairs! Take out those boarders and give the mages some support!"

Angels fight angels inside the hull of the ship, trying to support the battle taking place on the outside. The new group of shadow mages bolsters the defense, but they're coming in under heavy fire. Many are dying.

But we can't get too cocky just because we rolled 100.

Also, Lucifer is unaccounted for, so there is that.

You grab a hold of the hunger shard within you.

-can I eat it?-

<Oh, you can eat it.>

Green-tinged shadow spins into the dynamo. The power of the shard seeps into the airship, then flares out of the guns.

The smokey white clouds rush to the angel's defense...and the green ink eats straight through them, leaving gaping holes.

The lines of darkness converge on the bright core of the Sun Call.

You hear an ugly shriek. The spell stops spinning.

A sphere of darkness expands, warps, and consumes nearly half the spell. The rest of it disintegrates. Sparkles of light drift across the sky, then vanish. Your shard feels tremendously weakened by the effort...more than fragile. You gingerly bring it back to your core to let it rest.

At that cue, the cloud of darkness covering the city begins to fade. Hundreds of shadow mages head for the Noiralev, abandoning their position to try and escape.

The Ragnarok fires straight at them.

But this time, you're ready. You grab your next shard - Isolation.

It doesn't really like anything. It wants to keep it all out out. The shield is a perfect fit for the dark power. The Shard vibrates, humming with an off-pitch tone of loneliness.

The shields around the ship, previously invisible, begins to twist with streams of darkness.

Flint glances back at you. "Shields...at 157%!"

Your shield expands out, enveloping the shadow mages in a protective blanket, and simultaneously pushing the angels out and away. The Ragnarok's fire is deflected into the sky. Many angels are caught bare in the midst of friendly fire.

The isolation shard settles, and it, too, feels used beyond what caution tells you is wise. You tuck it away.

"Damn," Flint says. "Light-dammit, Shadow! You're actually doing this!"

The door to the engine room bursts open.

It's Duke Vellik.

Lightning wraps around his arms. He brings his hands together. A bolt of lightning flares toward Sir Flint!

Duke Vellik has always been about advancing his own power and position. He obviously figured that siding with Lucifer was the better option.

<You power hungry bastard! Are your ambitions worth the lives of thousands? Are you blind to the horrors of this city and its ruler has inflicted on others?>

On instinct, you leap in front of Flint.

The spell was meant for him, not for you. It deflects off you, burning your body, but you're mostly unscathed.

>you've taken 3 damage (43/56)

<Vellik!? Why - what the hell are you doing?!>

"Dammit. Of course you're clinging to this fool."

Vellik turns, and sprints out of the room.

Flint gets up and runs to the control panel. "Auriel, Vellik's on board! He's turned against us!"

"What?! Vellik? The hell did he get here?"

"I don't know, but keep your guard up!"

What do you do?

>chase him down like the dog he is

So, slapping vellik against the dynamo until he is a fine red paste?
Seconding.

>>25365537

But this is baffling because he covered for us when we snuck into the soul vault before! Why would he let us get in there, he must have suspected what we were going to attempt?
>>
>>25365541
He's going to go sabotage the ship, he knows about engineering them or has at least been researching it. I'd say we go after him to prevent him from causing damage.
>>
>>25365558
I don't think he covered for us, I think he didn't sense us.

If he'd known we were there, he certainly wouldn't have made a reference to enslaving us, there was no value to him in saying that in front of us.
>>
>>25365541
>stay in the engine room; now's not the time for gallivanting

We'll most likely meet him again later. Right now let's focus on saving the Shadow Mages.

We need to directly support the ship. Let's put our new shadow mages to use and have the hunt him down.

stay in the engine room. We need to focus on silencing the guns of Ragnarok. More people will die while it's guns are still hot...

To the duke <I hope you've given serious consideration to the fact that the lot you are throwing in with just attempted to commit genocide against their own people because it was the most expedient option. >>
>>25365541

>stay in the engine room; now's not the time for gallivanting

Take as many mages as we can and get ready to jump. Then we can go after him.
>>
Hmm...opinion is a little split, with a lean to staying put.

How about this? You stay in the engine room, and tell the mages to keep an eye out for him telepathically. Attempt to capture, but kill if necessary.

That said;
>"The jump drive," Flint says. "It's at 10% charge!" He slaps the panel. "That's three days worth! What did you do?"

>Isolation rings out to you. <...I'm not sure,> you say.

This seems to imply that the Isolation shard was used in some capacity to help recharge the drive, but it's in fragile-mode after having used it to repel airship fire.

Hopefully focusing our energy on recharging the drive itself rather than recharging it as a secondary benefit of empowering the ship's other functions will keep us from burning out a shard, as well as getting it charged faster than 10% per assist action.

>>
You can't let passion get the better of you. You judge you need to stay in position. You jump onto the dynamo and 'hook' back into the ship.

<Shadow mages!> you shout telepathically. <This is Shadow! Be on the lookout for Duke Vellik, a powerful Lightning mage! Capture him if you can, but don't hesitate to attack with full force!>

The door to the engine room opens again.

<Flint, can't you at least lock - >

You stop, and blink. Standing at the door are several shadow mages. Leading them is the one you met in the sewers!

The man rushes over to you. For a moment, he stares at you - and you suppose you do look pretty intimidating, half hovering, half morphed into the side of the dynamo.

He gives himself a shake. "Shadow. Ila will be leading the last wave out of the city. But Lucifer - "

"It's on screen!" Flint shouts.

You all look over. The final wave of shadow mages is only a few dozen in number - the last to stay behind as the rear guard to cover the others. Ila forms the tip of the spear.

Nearly three times their number in angels is flying in from their flank. Lucifer's bent light shines at their head. He's heading straight for Ila!

The ship rumbles again. The Ragnarok has closed the distance to your airship is is firing directly on your hull. The shields hold - for now.

"Guns at 77%!" Auriel's voice calls. "Shadow, we need weapons!"

"The jump drive's at 22%!" Flint says.

What do you do?

>use the guns to fire on Lucifer's position
>use the guns to fire on the Ragnarok. Aim for their weapons.
>the guns might not charge up in time. Try to manipulate the shield into saving Ila's group
>focus on charging the jump drive
>some other strategy
>>
>>25365825

Flint also informs you that the ship's shields are currently at 60% strength. All shields are redirected to the starboard side, facing the Ragnarok.
>>

>>25365843

>>
>>25365825
>use the guns to fire on Lucifer's position

Also, have the mages present funnel us their magic so we can send even more power/speed up the process of warming up the guns.

>Fire on Lucifer.

Guy is bad news, aside from saving Ila, the last thing we need is for him to board the ship.
>>
>>25365825
Dump power to shields and protect Ila's group. Our goal here was to free the shadow mages and bug out, not destroy the enemy forces. We can't do both.

The shields will both protect us and the mages. It pushed the angels away last time. Unless Lucifer has some crazy shadow-power thing going on.

<Auriel, aim at Lucifer!>

There's static over the speakers for a moment. And then her voice comes through. "...adjust aim...target Lucifer!"

The guns swivel.

You look to the mages. <Send me your mana!>

The shadow mages glance at each other. You can't see their faces well under their low cowls. The man hesitates. "...will that work?"

<I wouldn't ask if I didn't think so. Now!>

The mages raise their hands and channel shadow mana at you. It isn't condensed into a spell...just raw magic.

You consume all of it, and pour their and your energy into the task.

The guns fire.

Darkness explodes like flak over the heads of the angel battalion. Dozens of them are shredded outright. Others tumble to the ground, missing limbs or wings. The rest are forced to dive down and away to avoid getting blown out of the sky. Ila's group races onward.

But Lucifer escapes from the blasts unharmed. He's lost a bit of ground, but then, his magic flares. There's a tremendous concussion of air, and he speeds up toward the shadow mages like a beam of light!

The Ragnock's cannons are still trained on your ship. Still-exposed angels are flocking toward their allied craft. You glance up to the monitor...

...another airship is coming over the top of the mountain range.

What do you do?

>power to the shields! protect Ila's group from Lucifer!

Reset the interceptor for short range dispersal fire!
Evasive maneuvers! Bring us towards the group we are supposed to be rescuing. Interpose the Ragnarok between us and the new vessel, if possible!
Recall vipers! Charge shields and Jump Drive
And get someone we can TRUST finding Vellik, godsdamnit, before he causes MORE trouble. Subdue him and bring him to us - we will use his mana to fuel our escape!
>>
>>25366179
>...another airship is coming over the top of the mountain range.

>"Airship," Flint says. "There are only 27 in the entire world, as there's only 27 dynamos left that are capable of powering them. Artifacts made by the elementals. Duke Vellik owns four [...] And then, the last airship is usually traveling between here and Dobshire and Heavensgate, ferrying officials."

A little worried that this is going to be Vellik's ship, what with his presence here, and the Ring City's proximity to Heavensgate.

Extend our shields around Ila's group! Hail the newcoming vessel. When we make our escape, try to get UNDER or ABOVE the traverse of the Ragnarok's main weapon system while we execute the interposing maneuver.
If the newcomer is a friend, we can maybe give them a good shot. If an enemy, then perhaps they can't shoot us with that big fat friendly target in the way.

"Bring her around!" Auriel shouts. She's practically screaming. "Get the Ragnarok between us and that thing, now!"

<More mana!> you shout at the mages. <Give me everything you've got!>

The mages pour forth all their efforts. You shove the mana into the ship, spinning the dynamo faster and faster. It rotates under your command, obeying your push...

...too fast. It trembles. It's out of control!

You direct its energy as you can. Half to the jump drive, half out to Ila.

The shield around the ship distends. You shove forward, using it like a giant hand. It wraps around Ila as Lucifer arrives. His light crushes against the shields!

The dynamo cracks.

It's going to give!

You can't hesitate. It's everything, or nothing. Her life is on the line!

You shove hard, and Lucifer is deflected away. A blast of light sends him reeling back to the surface! You use the shield to draw in Ila as fast as you can.

The dynamo breaks open. Shadow power blows out in a wave, coating the room. Flint is sent hard to the floor. A few of the shadow mages cover him, protecting him from the raw pressure. You're too damn busy trying to get Ila to safety to take advantage of the power.

"Where are my engines!?" Auriel says. "The shields are going down! Shadow, we're losing power!!"

The Noiralev is moving, but not fast enough. The Ragnarok fires its weapons. They slam into the hull, scoring a direct hit. The room rocks and quakes. You grab a hold of the core of the engine. Flint clings to the control panel as the entire craft lists to the side.

The other airship is closing, fast. It's guns are beginning to brighten.

"Donovan!" Auriel's voice cries through the speakers. "Donovan! Donovan, are you there?!"

Flint drags himself up. "I'm here!"

You hear a rush of static that sounds like a relieved sigh. "...status report."

"Reserve power 23%," he says. "The guns on the starboard and bow are done. And...the dynamo. It broke."

"What?!"

<I pushed it too hard,> you say. <It was too much to handle.>

"...is there anything you can do?" Auriel asks. "We're dead in the water. Our shields are running on fumes."

You glance at Flint. <Can we still jump?>

He bites his lip, then checks the meters. "...the drive stores power separate from the engine. But it's only 60%. How can you charge it up?"

"Shadow, we have no time! You have to do something, now!"

...well, Shadow. What's the plan?

The dynamo's done, that's that then. We still feel the ship though don't we, redirect all the power we can into the jump engine and hope it's enough. Try to stop the core from leaking. If that fails, well... Waste not, want not.

Since the jump drive is a completely separate system from the dynamo, and we can charge the drive ourselves, with time, we might actually be able to use the airship as a long-range Blink device, even if it's missing its primary engine.

We need to have a look at the jump drive if the ship survives intact.

>>
The jump is a sure thing. Boarding their vessel and trying to wrest control from hundreds of angels while SandalFag regroups and prepares to tear us a new, shadowy asshole is not.
Theres no reason to try this whatsoever. The lives of an army of mages hangs in the balance. We need these people. We can fuck their ship and devour their dynsmo when we've got a bit more going for us. Right now, its best we just get the hell out of dodge with as many resources as we can, as safely as we can. We dont even have a dynsmo to devour anymore as a back up plan. This is nearly suicidal
>>
For some reason I get the feeling we are going to have to make a "blind" jump and SM with do some behind the scene rolling to see where we end up.
>>

Auriel's voice crackles over the speakers. ""Disengage the power couplings on starboard and bow gun batteries! Drop shields, all power to the jump drive!

"We're dead in the water, but we still have inertia! Drop the ballasts and go to manual! Keep us a moving target! Anything's better than sitting still right now!"

You leap into the spot where the dynamo laid. And you begin to spin your power.

Lights inside the room begin to flicker back on. The machinery starts to churn. The noise of the engine grows as the pistons pump faster.

<Mana!> you shout.

The mages do their best, but they're exhausted. You crush the power down and spin it faster, faster. It starts to rail against you.

>you've taken 3 damage (43/56)

"Jump drive at 66% and rising!" Flint shouts.

Ila rushes into the engine room. "Shadow!"

<...more mana...hurry!>

An entire troop of mages falls in behind her. "Understood!" she shouts.

They line up and channel raw magic into you. The power inside of you crackles and burns. It's like you're trying to contain a hurricane of shadow inside your body.

>you've taken 6 damage (37/56)

"78%!" Flint shouts.

<More mana!>

Ila grunts with effort. The mages pour out everything they have.

>you've taken 9 damage (28/56)

"88%!"

<It's not enough!>

"You're tearing yourself apart!" Ila shouts.

<If we don't get out of here, you are all going to die!> you shout back. <I did not come this far to fail! Now give me every drop of mana you have!>

The mages respond.

>you've taken 12 damage (16/56)

"100%!" Flint shouts. He slams a button. A new panel pops out in front of him - a map of Venia. "...uh."

"Flint!" Auriel shouts. "Get us out of here!"

Flint's finger hesitates.

Auriel's voice screams in through the speakers. "THEY'RE FIRING! JUMP, NOW!"

Totally didn't have anything to do with the shadowy thing that Michael had in his tower that also happened to be found at the same time as Auriel and Flint."

He's PROBABLY going to assume that we influenced Auriel's mind while she was in "captivity", which at least puts all the blame on us to begin with. Sandalphon is probably too cocky to believe that Auriel up and decided that Light doesn't make right (mostly) on her own terms.

2 Vamp:

3 Shiprakers: 15

4 Forest: 5

Didn't bother counting Vampiria because of low votes.

Alrighty. There was a tie between Archon and Shiprakers. However, the extra forest votes means that, together, the sentiment to establish some sort of independence from the powers that be is greater than that which seeks shelter with Yi Fang.

I'd like to note that there's nothing to stop you from flying off to Archon once you get an opportunity.

Frankly, he's probably going to be glad we came to him first.

If I'm Yi Fang, I'd much rather hear about what happened in the Ring City IMMEDIATELY, rather than having everyone who knows our side of the story stranded off in Tarun Gakth or the Great Forest with no method of transportation, while the angels are almost assuredly going to be storming off to Archon to demand an explanation (and/or a pound of flesh as retribution) for what happened in the Ring City.

Yi Fang's version of what happened in Palthair had us as his responsibility, so letting him know that a storm is coming whether he likes it or not is the right thing to do. The guy's a schemer; better to let him know the timescale on his schemes has been ratcheted forward a few notches.

It's where Tarun Gakth meets the sea, a treacherous locale of powerful tides and invisible reefs protruding from the sharp rock that lines the ocean floor. Only the most skilled of sea captains can sail it and live to tell the tale. Some pirates call it home, but it's mostly a desolate graveyard of broken ships and rocky plateaus.

I just thought of something, and I don't know if it's been brought up before. Using Shadow Totem, we can make turrets, but they don't necessarily have to be anchored to the ground. <SHIPRAKERS!> you scream at Flint.

Flint jams on the map.

The spot he touched glows bright.

"BRACE!!!" Auriel's voice shouts.

A tremendous blast rocks the ship. Everyone in the room falls to the floor. Flint barely hands on to the control panel.

The engine room flares with black light.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbWmFv0yZ2E

The cameras go dark.

And then, they're back on.

You see an ocean below you. It roars up against a hundred isolated plateaus. Swirling currents attack the rock with white foam. The rocks trail out into the distance, growing smaller and more scattered as further out to see.

The engine room's light flash on an off. An alarm courses through the ship.

"Donovan!"

"Main engine down!" Flint shouts. "We've lost all reserve power! We're dropping out of the sky!"

"Shut down everything but the backup engine!" Auriel shouts. "Slow our descent!"

This was mostly because we were containing ever-increasing amounts of power that we were funneling into the jump drive.

The drive that takes 3 days to charge 10% of the way. That we charged to full in a couple minutes.

Functioning as a virtual dynamo for purposes of slowing a ship's descent should be FAR less dangerous to our health, since it should require way less energy.

>>25368283
>more spin
>some other strategy
Heal ourselves so as to counteract some of the damage built up.

Going outside to slow the ship's descent manually will subject us to the Skysever, so it's incremental damage either path we take. Better to take the one we know will work, rather than trying to use our strength to lift a thing THIS large.

Equally important; from what we know, the Skysever is held at bay on airships with the power of the Dynamo.

If we bail on the ship to try and lift it, there will be nothing protecting the SHIP from the Skysever, let alone us.

Unless the ship has enough stored power in auxiliary to stop the Skysever for the duration or the descent, the thing is going to be torn to pieces if we try and slow the fall by mundane means.

We're going to take a beating, but we'll probably survive.

People really need to stop brushing the Skysever aside as negligible, though. There's a reason SM keeps using "you notice that this place (e.g. the Sage's tower; the Ring City) has birds flying around" as a way of telling us that a given place is special in some way. Getting around the Skysever is serious business.

>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcy5D5UhH44

<Hang on!> you shout.

"Shadow?" Ila asks. "Where are you going?!"

<To save this ship!>

You sprint out of the room and up the closest stairs you find, half running, half flying with your wings. You spot a porthole and lunge out through it, breaking the reinforced glass without much trouble.

The Noiralev is plummeting like a sack of bricks. The starboard side of the hull is pockmarked with craters torn right into the hull. The engine tucked beneath the craft is a smoking twist of steel and adamantium.

You dive down under the airship, spread yourself under the hull, and push. The hull groans as you throw all your strength into the task. The ship begins to slow down...but not quickly enough. There's a wide plateau directly underneath you, and it's coming up - fast!

You realize what you have to do. You bend your aura behind you, coiling it tight.

It explodes with force. Your supersonic doesn't send you anywhere, and the hull buckles in under the pressure, but it doesn't break. The ship immediately loses momentum.

That power isn't meant to be used like this. It puts a huge strain on your body.

>you take 5 damage (HP: 11/56)

But you stop the ship.

If you reached out a tendril, you could touch the ground.

You slowly, steadily lower yourself to the surface of the plateau...and then you dump the ship to the ground. Bending metal complains as it settles into the ground. You tuck yourself in, sitting within a little cave formed small indent you made in the side of the ship and the ground.

You feel exhausted.

Though now that I'm thinking about it, this is going to be a good opportunity for Skysever SCIENCE. Will it harm the falling airship? Will it harm us while we try to slow the airship's descent? Will it NOT hurt us, since even though we are attempting to fly, both we and the airship are still falling?

Ever since SM brought up the fact that there's almost definitely people out in this world who have done all of this research already, I keep wanting to verify their still as of yet unknown conclusions. We keep getting into situations they couldn't possibly have tested already, so it'd be interesting to compare our experiences with their notes.

>Amazing.. What is it from?

------------------
------------------

You Ink your way out from the tiny crevice you've gotten trapped in. There's just enough space here and there along the crushed hull.

You pop out into the sunlight. The broken Noiralev stretches high above you. You don't have the resources to repair it...and even if you did, no spare dynamo. Still...all those airships...maybe you could -appropriate- one at a later date.

At a glance, the plateau is about a half-mile across. It's one of the larger outcroppings. You peer over the edge. The sea is dotted with sharp protrusions. The repetitive crash of wave on rock floats over you.

It's really rather peaceful.

A hatch next to you pops open. Men and women in white tabards stream out. You see Auriel, Tyrael, and a few other lesser angels. She stops when she sees you. The rest of the heads swivel over. Everyone pauses.

"...Shadow," Auriel says.

<...Auriel.> You look at the ship. <I slowed it down as I could...but I'm afraid it won't fly again soon.>

Auriel just laughs. "Oh no. You've just saved all our lives, but, shit, the ship doesn't float anymore. Back to the cell with you!"

You find yourself laughing. A deep, low laugh builds up in you, a warm chuckle you've never felt before. <I guess so, huh?>

Another hatch opens in the side of the airship, further down the hull.

Back in the thread where we first met him:

They're not exactly going to be a big help when it comes to an Airship Dynamo. They didn't even really have a handle on the little power cores, which is why they wanted the one we found back so badly.

Ila and Flint are leading the party of shadow mages that steps out from the hull.

>you arbitrarily heal yourself three times for 2 mana each time for 12 hp (total: 23/56)
>mana: 7/20

Flint runs ahead of the group. He grins at you, then comes to a stop in front of Auriel, breathless. He stares at her for a long time, then seems to notice everyone around her, and takes a step back. "...Highest. I'm glad you're safe."

"Sir Flint," she says. "That was some impressive engineering. You'll have to tell me about how you picked up that skill."

"...I was just watching the dials, Highest. Anyone could do it."

"I thought I told you to call me Auriel."

"...uh...well - I just..."

Auriel grabs him and drags him into what you'd characterize as an -aggressive- kiss. You're not surprised by this behavior, but Tyrael's eyes go wide. More than a few of Auriel's crew are stunned.

The shadow mages finally arrive. There's only a few dozen there; most are still inside the ship, working their way out.

"You saved us all, Shadow," Ila says. "...I...am no longer...we...are no longer bound. We have our souls back. Our lives back. Thank you. Thank you."

<Thanks are not necessary,> you say. <I judged the situation, and did what I believe was right.>

"It is for that, that I thank you."

You nod in acceptance, rather uncertain of how to deal with the gratitude emanating from the rows of mages. <What will you do now?>

Ila kneels in front of you. She plants a fist to the ground. "You returned my life to me, Shadow. I give it to you. An equal exchange." She looks up. "We have few laws, amongst ourselves. But this is one."

<...you are free to do as you choose,> you say. <I did not release you to bind you once more.>

"But this is my choice," she says.

The man from the sewers kneels next to her. "An equal exchange. A balance of the scales."

You hear the words muttered a few times amongst the crowd. One by one, the kneel before you.

Ila's expression falters. "...But - !"

<No,> you say. <I will not accept that kind of pledge. You will not kneel to me in servitude.> You reach out and take Ila's arm. You gently tug her to her feet. <Stand with me, as an ally. As an equal.>

Ila begins to cry. She falls on your body, and for the second time in your life, someone's tears fall down your form. You stand there, stoic, and for a moment, you do not speak, for you have the strangest fear that your voice wouldn't be your own.

The other mages stand back up, and Ila lifts herself away. You look at the man you met in the sewer. <What is your name?>

Are we going to use a similar force organisation as the Angels did, or shall we design our own?

I feel it would be best if rather than one overall leader, we had a group of Generals. That way, no one person can use the others for their own purposes such as what happened with the Angels.
Also, Everyone has the same rights. Higher ranks do not mean Privilege. This also encourages corruption, such as seen with Micheal. From what Aurial said, he was not a bad person to begin with, but it seems that the privileges of rank fostered a sense of entitlement within him, thusly making him a dick...

You throw all your mana into a Bind! Orange ropes of magic snap out from your form and launch at the duke!

>mana: 0/20

The duke throws up his hands, covering himself with a field of electricity. The orange light seems to sap it right out of him...but he avoids getting bound.

The duke turns to run -

- but none other than Flint has burst forward to stop him.

But then, the parasite rattles, and twists hard.

Flint's foot catches on the corner of the hatch. He trips face first.

His sword's hilt is caught on the corner of the stairs of the hatch as well. And the exact angle and momentum somehow combined to snap it from its sheath like a rubber band. It flies through the air, end over end, and stabs the Duke right through the heart.

You hear him give a small whimper, and then he slumps over, dead.

Flint scrambles back in horror. "...I didn't - I mean I - dear Light."

"Well..." Auriel huffs. "That's one way of dealing with the problem."

"But he's dead!"

"Who cares?" Auriel says. "He's a backstabbing worm. He tried to kill you. And shit - we fired on Lucifer himself just a minute ago. What's the death of the Duke? Kelvere's better off." She frowns. "...but a leaderless Kelvere is going to have trouble against Kan-Abar. Ah...shit."

You notice something. Ila's fingers are moving. Twitching, in strange patterns.

You see another mage's fingers move. Cain's do the same thing.

The Translation of the gestures comes to you as if by instinct.

~That was sudden.~ Ila gestures.

~Almost as if on purpose.~ Cain responds.

~The Shadow seems to regard the knight highly,~ a third mage chimes in.

Ila nods ever so slightly. ~He must be a formidable man.~

~Indeed. We could only hope to kill with such subtlety.~

~One to watch out for.~

Oh wow. Flint's going to get a reputation among all the shadow mages if we don't clear this up.

We should probably tell Flint they're impressed with the subtlety with which he disposed of the Duke. Let him flounder a little bit while he's trying to process that, and then ask him if he wants us to clear it up for him, or if he would rather keep his reputation as a fearsome opponent intact among the new arrivals.

That, and we should probably remember to consume him. As much as it was an accident, he's still dead. Better to not let his power go to waste.

Yes. That's pretty disappointing, I think he might have been working for us the whole time.

Fuck. So his body double just inherited his kingdom. So the Empire just annexed his kingdom... I wanted to deny them those resources, mages and territory a while longer. Fucking hell. We probably could have extorted removal of the parasite since it would be vulnerable to lightning.

Ok, finger talk back to them that Flint has a condition that sometimes gives him unintentional, perfect luck and other times turns his every act to failure.

You have trouble believing that the shadow mages have mistaken Flint's incredibly bad luck, brought on by the parasite, for incredible competence.

You decide there's no need to rectify that assumption. At least, not immediately.

It could prove amusing.

"Well, can't say I'm terribly torn up about it," Auriel says. "Let's dump the body and get to important matters.

You briefly search the duke's body. You don't find the key. Damn.

You consider consuming the duke's body, but when two of Auriel's men move to swing it over the side of the cliff, you don't stop them. The duke's black robes flap in the wind as his body plummets into the water with a tiny splash.

And that, you think to yourself, is the end of Duke Vellik. He should have known better.

"Shadow. Care to explain your reasoning in bringing us out to the middle of nowhere?" Auriel asks.

<Isolated. Safe. And...we might possibly find an ally in Tarun Gakth.>

She nods. "You're thinking of Steward. But can you be sure he's an ally?"

<I think so...if we can find them.>

"But what about the meantime?" she asks. "We need food. Water. Shelter. All of the above."

"Shadow, if I may," Ila says. "What exactly are your plans?"

<Well,> you say. <I've had a few ideas.>

Previously we have been able to move swiftly in our small group. We sort of have a small army now. I think the first steps are setting up officers, command structure and the like and figuring out how we're doing to feed and transport this group. It's not going to be possible to move through enemy territory without some real clever planning anymore.

Also, velik was hidden. We could wipe the guard or people who knew his identity and put anyone in. Nobody would know.

So SM. Great thread as usual, had a great time.
Out of curiosity, why did you make us - I mean, Flint - accidently kill the Duke with those crappy rolls? What was your reasoning behind them, and what would have happened if we had rolled higher?
And yes, I'm very aware that you'll probably tell me for the last question that you can't answer that, Dave.
>>
>>25369972
Wait, didn't the duke never take the key off? Still thinking not real duke, which might explain him attacking flint, and not being able to stop a bind spell, remember how powerful he was?
>>
>>25369979
I think SM rolls in the backround for Flint's moments of pastamancy.
>>
>>25370028
My main concern with that is that I don't want to start playing Empire Quest. Every time an adventure-based quest turns into an empire quest, it loses quality and eventually dies.

So if we do end up doing that, please let it be handed off to someone else. We have a lot to do elsewhere.

Going into Arland is going to be difficult. We have a large group with us and I don't see any easy way to sneak into angel controled territory. As much as I would like to shove all the mages into our coat and walk in, I don't think that's a thing.

Until we unlock it.
>>
The airship ruins would make a good starting base. We need to immediately source for allies. Bringing Obis back into power is also now a more pressing goal. Refuge in Kan-Abar is now an option.

I'm partial to waiting for one more EXP and getting water recovery.
It would make fighting anything around here easy, and give an easy way to heal anywhere else.

That way we don't end up buying something that doesn't get used for a dozen threads.
>>
>>25370228

We're getting food for them. How is that not ensuring their survival?

We're not human. We can think while simultaneously being a living fishing net. Let Auriel handle setting up a rudimentary camp.
>>

LOL TROLLED HARD

>>25370019

Necromancy doesn't work like that in my setting. Once a soul is gone, it dissolves back into the nether. Animated dead are just zombies; ghosts and ghouls are magical constructs, false negatives of human souls. There's no way to speak to the dead. They're gone forever.

>>25370020

That's a brilliant idea. You'd have to do it constantly to provide enough for them to drink, however.

>>25370076

Simple. You wanted to capture him. You failed very badly - and then you crit failed the saving throw. So he ended up dead, and useless, and he left his key at home because he hardly trusted the angels.

We should consult Auriel on how we wish to form the government structure. The last thing we want is to form another Black Hand.
>>
>>25370283

I think holding our position is actually a pretty bad plan. We need to salvage the area for parts and create a seaworthy vessel, and sail the fuck out of here.

We could probably guide the ship out of the reefs with Deep Focus on.
>>
>>25370336

We'd need to draw a huge amount of water out of the ocean before that. I guess we'd leave fishing up to the angels and shadow mages, then.
>>
>>25370323

Sorry, mis-wrote.

>>25370336

Sure. But you'd need a lot of water, a lot of mana, and a lot of time to make enough drinkable water for everyone. You've got several hundred shadow and spirit mages (exact count next thread) as well as the entire crew.
>>
While I do think the long term plans are nice and all we now need to focus on how we are gong to keep these people alive. As suggested earlier we should have Ila and Auriel be in charge of the two groups of mages, our first two members of the elemental council if you will.

Flint will be our leader of the knight organization we are going to form and we are going to be the leader of this operation with Flint being in charge when we are away.

Auriel first task will be getting an inventory of any supplies we have and setting up a basic base of operations inside and outside the ship.

Meanwhile IIa and the shadow mages will scout the area for recourses: Fresh water, food, platforms that would make good fishing spot, dangers, ect.
>>
So, what takes priority now? This whole
Thing was to reach Adavan and cure Flint. Has that been pushed to the side in order for us to clean up this mess?

Ugh, so much to do and SM has to "sleep"
>>
>>25370375
>Flint being in charge when we are away.

Do we trust Flint with the parasite still attached to him?

I mean, yeah we trust FLINT with our life, but do we trust that the parasite won't fuck things up and dick us over again?
>>
>>25370317
We could shore it up with wood from shipwrecks, and stones from the platoes. Another option would be to wedge the hulk between two platoes and make some rope ladders to go down to the ocean.
>>
>>25370317
The issue with this is we don't NEED to teach them to fish for themselves because we don't exactly plan on being here forever. It's useful for now, but we'd rather delegate shelter construction/getting a fire going, etc. to them.

Getting them able to catch fish would require making fishing gear, getting them down from the cliffs to the water, somehow finding still enough water to allow for fruitful fishing without undue danger to the fishermen, and then getting the catch back up to the crashed ship.

Meanwhile, we can just plunge into the sea, dive to any depth that would hold reasonably-sized fish, outspeed and overpower them, and fly them back up to the crash site. And we can do this while scanning the shoreline for shipwrecks for further supply runs.

This seems WAY more efficient.
>>
>>25370404

Maybe Auriel in general charge as a depowered angel, and Tyrael in charge of the angels?

Or not, the shadow mages probably won't trust her. Flint it is. Or maybe Wispbro!

>>25370436
Put Flint in charge of the mages. He already has their respect, and the ensuing spagooti would be totally worth it.
>>
>>25370404

The parasite doesn't seem to fuck with his judgment so much as make him spaghooti about instead of being an inspiring leader. I think the safest option is leaving a Council in charge while we're away. Flint is Knights and Humans, Auriel is Angels and Healers, Ila is Shadow Mages and Spies.

But I think we should create wagons or several small ships and leave the area, we have zero resources to support a small army and fortifying here is a terrible plan. We need to make way to Arland.

While the army en route, we can fly ahead to Kan-Abar and find the Duke's double. If we can convince the double to work for us, we can open a path for Shadow and Friends to get into Arland and maybe prevent a war.

Also, as much as this sucks, we're GOING to have to deal with the Black Lady. Yes, she's an evil, evil bitch, but she also has a shitload of military might. It might be worth our while to assassinate/imprison her secretly and use the threat of Vampiria to keep the Angels in check, with Ring City in shambles they probably won't be on the offensive for a while.
>>

There's no rush. Take your time.

This. THIS. You're awesome.
>>
>>25370518
>Flint is Knights and Humans, Auriel is Angels and Healers, Ila is Shadow Mages and Spies.
Setting it up like that gives Ila far more power than anyone else. There are FAR more shadow/spirit mages than anyone else here.
>>
>>25370518
Not to mention, we have no way of knowing if the angels can track jumps like the one we did. We unleashed all the shadow mages and caused the most chaos the city has seen in centuries. They're pissed, they want to reassume control and seek vengeance, and they'll be coming after us. The sooner we ditch the wreckage, the better.
>>
>>25370553

I get the impression that the Angels are more powerful on an individual basis than the Shadow Mages are, but you might be right.

I don't think we have to worry about Ila usurping more power than we want though. They're just starting to remember they have freedoms at all.
>>
>>25370511
There's no reason not to have Ila in charge of the mages; they already seem to respect her to some degree (Cain (née Sewerbro) mentioned that she had told the other mages stories about us before this whole debacle, so her having a prior connection to us probably gives her some added legitimacy as leader) and Auriel is a natural leader for the angels seeing as she is basically the commanding officer, and they all followed her into a revolt against the angelic hierarchy. If that's not telling enough of their respect for her, I dunno what is.

We also want to get the angels acclimated to the fact that the mages are going to need to be treated as regular people as opposed to the soulless pawns they used to be, but I feel like they're probably on the right track for that regardless, what with the fact that they listened to Auriel's speech and still stuck around.

Yeah, who knows? After how large an influence Abigail has had on us, we know surprisingly little about her.

Although.

>>
>>25370853
Obviously, to "Choose."
>>
>>25370810
Which would be quite fascinating as well. I wonder what kind of creatures she talked to and what they told her. I would really like to visit the "Lady" Abigail had been talking to.

>>25370832
The difference between what? And why do both of you seem to consider talking Nether creatures uninteresting?
>>
>>25370853
Maybe SM rolled for our location, and we got lucky.
>>
>>25370877
>I would really like to visit the "Lady" Abigail had been talking to.
Should we announce to the shadow and spirit mages our intention to free Geb and the Spirit trapped under the town?
>>
>>25370921

Not yet.

I don't want to be paranoid, but we can't be sure that the Angels who defected won't be passing information to Sandalfucker. We should attempt to keep our long-term goals a secret if we can, if only to keep our enemies guessing.

That said, it might actually be easier to free the "Lady" under Jacob's Landing than to convince Yi Fang to give us the Staff of Winds and remove the Light Shel'Kath from Geb's soul.

I feel like freeing even one other Lesser Elemental would vastly (VASTLY) change the power balance in Venia.
>>
Guys, I just had an idea.

If we can make a large enough makeshift boat we can ferry supplies of wood, food, and maybe water from Isle Imil.
>>
>>25370982
So, Flints heirloom in Arland, and a little focus at Evinbrook to find the Dukes key.
Can barely wait.
>>
>>25371005
What knowledge have we of Isle Imil?
>>
>>25371005
While we have everyone doing things we could also zip on over to our orc friends and try to make a new ally or at the very least ask for help/ tips on how to survive out around here.
>>
>>25370982
Then the second consideration; do we want to consume the Spirit elemental? If we aim to bring harmony between the elements, becoming the avatar of elemental harmony, the omnielemental would seem to be the path to take.
>>
>>25371005
Hey. You think the airship could be used as a makeshift boat for that task?
>>
>>25371038

Wait, what?

Consuming the Spirit Elemental is DIRECTLY opposed to our goals of elemental unity. Even consuming Hyperion would defeat the purpose of our revolution. We don't want to replace the tyrant, we want to destroy the throne and bring balance to the Force
>>
>>25371076
I don't see how it's opposed. What better to usher in elemental unity than a literal unity between the elements?
>>
>>25371093

>eating the Spirit Elemental
>unity

It's opposed, dude.
>>
>>25371038
...that's just being a dick. We didn't consume all of the shadow mage souls when we had the chance, why the hell would we do it with another potential ally?
>>
>>25371093
We cannot replace the spirit elemental. We don't fundamentally change our own nature by consuming things.
>>
>>25371106
>>25371120
>>25371123
Perhaps I should have used different terminology. I want to merge with it. If we can convince it to merge with us, then that would be much better than overpowering it and eating it.

>We cannot replace the spirit elemental.
Why not? Separation of the elementals failed. This is something new.
>>
>>25371093
>consume potential ally to rule over all the elements.

I wouldn't put that past Sandalphon, but it's OOC for Shadow.
>>
>>25371149

When we eat something, we don't merge with it. We strip the power from its soul, convert it to Shadow energy, and add that power to our form.

What you're suggesting doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>25371093
I'm reminded somewhat of a bit from A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
>Unlimited power is the ideal thing when it is in safe hands. The despotism of heaven is the one absolutely perfect government, and earthly despotism would be the absolute perfect earthly government if the conditions were the same; namely the despot the perfectest individual of the human race, and his lease of life perpetual; but as a perishable, perfect man must die and leave his despotism in the hands of an imperfect successor, an earthly despotism is not merely a bad form of government, it is the worst form that is possible.

We have no way to assure that we survive in perpetuity, so it would be irresponsible of us to set up a system that has a single failing point.

No matter how good our ideals are, it is better to instill those ideals in people so that they want to uphold and pass them down of their own accord than to enforce them by virtue of being in charge and risk the seat of power falling into the wrong hands if something untoward happens to us down the line.
>>
>>25371149
Merging might be possible, I guess? Remember though that we needed a crit to even merge with a Shadow elemental. Merging with other elements will be extremely difficult.
>Separation of the elementals failed.
Because some of them were dicks.
>>
>>25371225
The shadow elemental was trying to kill us and was about as smart as a wild animal.

The Spirit is smart. We might be able to convince it.

>>25371211
Merging all eight elements would effectively create a god.
>>
>>25371149
>Become the Elemental version of the fucking Borg Collective.

...no. Too much risk of losing our personality and having the other elementals take our body over.
>>
>>25371250
So your long-term plan for us is apotheosis?

Well, at least I can say you aren't aiming LOW.
>>
>>25371250

Only humans can have more than one element in their soul. This was directly stated by Shadow Master.

Merging with the Spirit Element is not a feasible goal, or even something Shadow would consider if it was possible. It goes against our pretty clearly stated goals AGAINST the centralization of power.
>>
>>25371250
See >>25371262 for an example of why we shouldn't.
>>
>>25371339
So what is your plan? Elementomachy II, shadow boogaloo?
>>
>>25371393
1) Convince humans of stopping their fights.
2) Free one allied Element. Convince it.
3) Free more allied Elements, Convince them.
4) Free other Elements, Convince them or force them.
5) Free Light. Have a long discussion about morality.
6) Profit.
>>
>>25371393
Well, as best as I can tell, eating the Elementals is not the plan. Negotiating with the nations and playing them off each other for world peace is more my thing. Having blackmail material for punishment and neat shit and services for good deeds works best.
>>
How about we have two counsels of sorts. One is that of the mortal kinda that is separated into the different elements and another that is for all the different elements or elemental lords that join our cause...and as we are the only one on that counsel so far...
>>
Instead of an organisation with a rigid hierarchy with should create a dynamic society where the members share common goals.
>>
>>25371581

Maybe a kind of bicameral-council type thing.

One Mortal House, One Elemental House.
>>
>>25371709
Exactly!
>>
>>25371709
The problem I see with this is that it could very rapidly devolve into high vs low elements all over again. It would be especially vulnerable to that during formation, and it really wouldn't go away even after all 8 got in.
>>
>>25371759
That's not to say that it isn't better than whatever the hell the old system was / is.

because it is better.
>>
>>25371730
It's still a single point failure system though.

If one elemental were to die, the opposite elemental would have a huge powerboost as a result of having not direct counter.

The death of any elemental would rapidly turn into a massive shitstorm.
>>
>>25371881
which makes Geb with no opposing Air elemental the strongest
