It's that day, /tg/. I wasn't all that sure I Was going to run today, but I guess I am after all.

The archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Digimon%20Quest
Twitter: https://twitter.com/DigimonQuest

In our last two threads, Wayne, Sally, Zoe and Aslan did battle with a couple of Ogre Digimon, secured their services as guides in the Digiworld, made a tentative deal with a fellow Digimon and Human duo, and had quite a few touching moments to themselves. Then, after a heartfelt talk with his partner Sally, Wayne fell asleep.

Now the Gate is soon to open, and our heroes are all asleep- how will they fare?

Let's find out;

>Roll 1d20 for luck (to see when the Gate Opens)
>Roll 1d10 (to see how long you slept)

>After this point, rolling a d20 for luck at any point not already using a luck roll is allowed, and in some cases encouraged.

You need to insert worms into this... along with bugs, glitches...

Also if someone has technophobia, does that mean they also fear digimon?

If they also have arachnophobia does that mean that they're twice as scared of Arukenimon?

Speaking of that, there was going to be a heavy metal or rock quest or something... THe MC's name was going to be Jack D. Black so we could give the D, tenaciously.

>Rolled 20 luck
>Rolled 10

I'm brought back to consciousness by a faint beeping sound.

Slowly, as all my faculties start up again, I lift myself off the soft matress- before stopping, my movements restricted. Looking down at my body, I can see that Sally at some point in the night had wrapped her arms around me, hugging me like one of those weird pillows I saw online. Thankfully, her claws aren't touching, but her grip is still quite strong despite that. After a couple minutes of testing and teasing her grip, I manage to slide out of her grasp, leaving her to rest a bit more.

Standing up, I check the clock on the bedside- it reads 11:10 PM. So I've been asleep somewhere around...five hours. Interesting. I stretch briefly, wincing a bit as several of my joints pop, before looking about the room;

The Duffel Bags filled with our gear are in one corner of the room- both of them filled to the point of bursting, but their size is easily managable. Both of us should be able to carry them easily on our... trip.

The Digivice is sitting on the bed, right near where my head was before, and is currently emitting a quiet signal of some kind- it's not rushed, nor is it too shrill, but it's loud and urgent enough that it woke me up. Picking up the device and opening it, I can't see any sort of way to turn the sound off- there's no icon or symbol telling me what's going on at all.

However, from what I can tell, the gate hasn't opened yet at all, so there's that to consider. Perhaps the beeping is a kind of countdown?

Sighing to myself, I...

[] check on the laptop before finding a way to pack it in the bags

[] go check on Zoe

[] Wake up Sally now

[] fiddle with the digivice

[] Call Daniil

[] Call home, say goodbye now.

Might be interesting.. Or, you know... she eats it, gets mecha exp and unlocks machine evolutions. I don't know... I'd experiment a lot with a digimon if I had one with prior knowledge.

I'd be the one to yell at it until it dark-digivolved into Megiddramon. The only real final form of Guilmon.

Corruption is the best way to go with a digimon. I swear.

They're data anomalies in the first place. Glitching can only make them stronger.

>Megiddramon again to reinforce this point.

I don't give a shit that Dukemon/Gallantmon was able to beat Beelzemon. Megiddramon's existence alone made the Digital world nearly crash.
>>
Perhaps I ought to check on Zoe, see how she's doing. Last I saw her, she was asleep, but I don't know what she's been up to in the last five hours.

Opening the door slowly, I check the hallway, looking for opened doors, but mine is the only one from what I can see. So she must still be downstairs. I head for said stairs, going down as softly as I can; it wouldn't do to wake her up if she's still sleeping. Peering into the den I left her in, I can see Zoe on the couch still, slumbering peacefully. Aslan is on the floor beside her, curled up in a position I would call adorable if it were any other digimon. With him, it's almost dignified, somehow.

But Zoe's still sleeping, even as her own Digivice begins to beep, laid on the seat beside her. Picking up the small device, I compare hers with mine- in tersm of shape, they're the same, but hers is a different color from mine- she has a blue and bronze color scheme, whereas mine is red and silver. Her screen is lighting up as it beeps, the glow a soft sky blue, just like mine.

Setting the digivice down again, I take another look at my sleeping friend; earlier, she just looked so tired, but now, she has a peaceful expression, and her exhaustion isn't present at all. She's actually looking healthier than she was when she called me to the school, asking me to help her. I can't help but smile at how much better she's doing already; it's actually nothing short of a mira-

"....Wayne...." I pause in my thoughts. Someone just said my name. It sure as hell wasn't Aslan- he's still sleeping off his wounds, and Sally's still upstairs. And Zoe's-

I look at my friend again, and notice the small smile on her lips and she nestles herself even further into a pillow on the couch. I can hear her murmuring more into the cloth, but it's too quiet for me to hear.

I should ...

[] listen closer, I've eavesdropped on her once before.

[] leave her alone; I've listened in on her too much already.

It's curiosity rather than powergaming.

If I was powergaming, I'd suggest we feed her all the data from the internet to make her stronger.

Because by means of the tamer universe The BEST universe. that's all digimon need to grow.

But I'm not going to say that we should do that. Because...

Because...

I have no reason why we shouldn't do this other than it might make things get realllly crazy. [/spoiler.

>>25455096

>>
>>25455060
>Warp Digivolution isn't used as a shortcut, save for one instance- and that one instance was an exception (beelzemon being hacked to warp digivolve right from impmon.)
>It also requires numerous catalysts (of which you only have one) and is used after the digimon has achieved all the prior levels, the majority of the time- which Sally hasn't.

>that's also not only powergaming, but metagaming; Wayne has no way of knowing such ways of advancing a digivolution exists, and neither does Sally, as far as you know. That goes for both corrupt digivolutions and warp digivolution.

>Aslo, I told this to someone else who wanted to run a digimon quest- so long as we keep them separate, I'm perfectly fine with someone else running another one.
>>
>>25455134

That aside lets get back to Zoe and Wanye. I still say he should remain clueless until it's convenient for a power up
>>
>>25455163

My idea moreso involved just seeing what a magnet does to a data creature. Not necessarily forcing a dark digivolution.

I feel sort of guilty- I've already eavesdropped on a conversation between Zoe and her partner before, and now I've just heard her saying something in her sleep that I probably shouldn't have. Listening in further wouldn't be right. I step away, before heading over to where I left my laptop that morning, when I was searching for those stories about other digimon; it's still on that page, even.

Minimizing that window, I re-open the DGDSTND file, expecting to see the last conversation I had with whoever is on the other side of...whatever this is.

Instead, I just see a string of numbers.

2520. 2519. 2518. 2517. 2516. 2515. 2514. 2513.2512. 2511. 2510. 2509.

I don't...what is this? It all starts with 25, but the next two numbers are always...one...less...

Oh. Oh, shit.

2508. 2507. 2506. 2505. 2504. 2503. 2502. 2501. 2500.

it's a countdown. A countdown that now has 2500 seconds left on it. How long is that in minutes? Forty-two? Forty-one?

If my hunch is right, this is the countdown to the Gate.

And we have less than an hour left. In the back of my mind, I can hear the digivice's beeping increase in volume as the countdown moves further along, in time with the numbers that are piling up in front of me.

Should I still try and connect the digivice, or do I want to wake the others?

Actually, this does sound like a good idea. A flashlight app, a radio app of some type, a cartography app, and if Zoe has a digivice Yes, I'm the guy that just joined the thread try and sneak it away from her to put a ping tool of some type on both of them.

I hold up the digivice, looking between it and the laptop. I've been wondering for a while wether or not I could connect the two, since it seems like it'd be rather useful, but I can't seem to find any sort of connector on the thing itself.

Maybe it's wireless, I think, and place it next to the laptop, before bringing up the control panel and trying to see if I couldn't connect them over wifi or bluetooth or something-

The Digivice lets out a rather loud beep, and then several lights along the side flash to life, blinking and changing from orange to blue one by one. Then, as if some sort of requirement was met, the digivice's bottom covering opens up, and a USB-jack swivels out. It's meant to plug into the computer directly, with no cords involved, it would seem. Hurriedly, I jam the small phone-like tool into the correct port, and wait for something to happen.

Which takes about a second. The DGDSTND file is suddenly pulled up, and before the next second can be counted down, something new appears.

It's the same sort of glyphs I saw on the digivice's screen earlier, and the same kind as the writing on Sally's dress. Belately, I realize they were even on her collar as a Salamon. But these look much different. They look less like code, and more like...text. Not like I can read them, but the way they're arranged is the same way text would show up in a coding file, or on a blue screen or something.

But the good thing is that the countdown stops.

More text is scrolling across the page, but I ignore it for now. Using this time I've bought, I pull out my cell phone, and dial Daniil's number. He picks up after the second ring, and when he answers, I can hear his voice wavering.

"Wayne Rogers. You've got some timing..." I have a nagging feeling that I know what he's talking about. I also get the feeling that I don't need to tell him what's going on. He had a file the same as mine, after all.

I ask him if he thinks he and his friend can make it in the time we have left, but I'm surprised when he answers "Nyet."

"What do you mean, no? You could easily make it here in half an hou-" I ask, but he cuts me off before I can finish.

"We do not have half an hour, actually." I'm struggling to keep up with this- he's not telling me anything, and we're running out of time. I'm about to ask him to clarify just what he means, but I'm beaten to it.

"There isn't just one gate, Rogers." Daniil says, and I freeze.

"Then..."

"Yes. We have one of our own. And it has less than ten minutes on its timer. You connected your Digivice, da?" I nod, before realizing he can't see me.

"Yeah, I did." He sighs from the other end.

"So did I. It only delays the timer until the others have logged theirs in, I think; it started again as soon as you called."

Wait, then that would mean... I look back to my timer. There's more text, but more importantly: more numbers. It's started counting down again.

"Well, Wayne Rogers, I believe this is it," Daniil's voice snaps me out of my stupor, and before I can turn back to the phone and urge him to stay on, he continues. "If all goes well, we'll see you on the other side. Though, if I were you, I would get those guides of yours as soon as possible. From what you've told me, you have only a half an hour left, and that is not a lot of time at all."

He's right, I realize, and as he hangs up, I'm already dashing upstairs to where Sally is. I throw open the door, the sound startling the humanoid digimon out of her rest and onto the floor.

While she's somewhat upset about the rude awakening, as soon as I tell her what's going on, she immediately opens and flies out the window, shooting across the night sky faster than she'd ever flown while carrying me.
>>
>>25457212
>>25457217

Hah, I'm ironically timed.
>>
>>25457224
Trusting that she'd be fine, I grabbed all the bags we'd be taking, and began lugging them downstairs. The noise from all of this appears to have woken Zoe and Aslan, as both are now up and groggily looking about. I quickly give them the basics of the situation, and that has them up and raring to go.

With all of our things ready and waiting, and Zoe and Aslan scrambling about trying to get their own things in order, I check up on the laptop.

We have close to twenty minutes left.

>>
>>25457551
This. Very this. It would be nice to avoid as many social potentially insulting faux-pas as we can with these fire-/ice-/lightning-/compressed air-/incomprehensible nature-breathing entities.
>>
It took almost all twenty of those minutes for Sally to return with the two Ogres. They couldn't get in, so we moved all of our things outside, and then set up the laptop on the porch.

By now, Aslan and Zoe were fully awake, and both of them seemed as ready as they were going to get, though Zoe looked a bit unsure. What about, I didn't know.

After a suggestion from Zoe, we quickly made belting our things and strapping them together a priority, and then made makeshift harnesses with the bags' straps, so as to not lose our things in the imminent...whatever it was that was coming.

I'd tried to look into the digivice some more while we waited, but I couldn't decipher any of the text (I couldn't copy and paste it, either, so changing fonts was out of the question) and I couldn't open anything from the laptop's side.

Something had started transferring from the digivice to my computer within the last ten minutes, but I didn't think anything of it at the time.

When we were all squared away and ready to go, we'd already used up more than twenty minutes of our allotted time.

And then it happened.

The file that was transferred suddenly opened, and a blue screen with a circuit-board pattern popped up instead of my desktop. There was more of that text running up and down and across the screen in fading and glowing letters, and it seemed like something was loading.

Then, as the final minute ticked down, the letters began rearranging themselves into something- a circle, in the center of the window. As more and more circles formed within and around it, I could tell-

this was the gate.

When the entire screen was filled with the coding, the rings began to spin, each one turning the opposite of the next ring, so that in the end, it was just a glowing, spinning mass.

And then the glow spread out from the computer screen, enveloped the six of us, and our feet left the ground. I felt a sudden jolt forward, and then only acceleration and light.

>15 luck

For the longest while, all I can feel is that I'm moving. We stopped accellerating a while ago, and now we're just...soaring through this...whatever it is we're moving through is.

I can...sense, for the lack of a better term, I can sense Sally, floating beside me. I don't know if it's because we're partners or some other reason, but it's a reassuring feeling. That's as far as I can feel, though; I can't seem to find Zoe or Aslan in this void- I don't even know if it's filled with light or darkness anymore, I closed my eyes not too long ago- nor can I sense the two Ogres.

This continues for a few more minutes, before there's a sudden jerk- and I'm falling.

I immediately open my eyes, and I'm greeted with a burst of light to my retinas- it's daytime.

Wincing, I try to look about, still falling...

and land in the branches of a tree. The sudden impact is jarring, but the distance I fell to the tree wasn't as great as I thought, and I'm fairly certain nothing is broken. Disoriented, I look about once more, trying to get a bearing on my surroundings.

I'm in an enormous tree, of a size I've never seen before, and I'm currently suspended by the straps holding me and my duffel bag together off of a branch. They seem to be holding well, which is good, but I can't reach the buckles to let myself down onto one of the branches below me, which is bad.
>>
>>25458543

Damn it Gale, I know for some people on /tg/ heavens gate is more of a revolving door but you take it too far.
>>
>>25458560
I hear a yelp of surprise as the others begin to fall around me, some getting tangled in the branches, some crashing through the twigs and limbs to the ground below.

That's when I notice- this tree is not only huge across- it's incredibly tall as well. Not even the Great Redwoods of California grew to this height- I'm sure of it.

Next to me, a couple meters to the left, Zoe is similarly entangled, and Aslan seems to have caught onto a branch with his claws on the way down. The two ogres couldn't be supported by the tree's limbs, and they're on the ground, looking none the worse for wear.

Sally, however, I can't see.

Not until she pops into view in front of me, however, floating down on her broomstick with an amused smile. She giggles at our predicament, before setting to work trying to free the two of us-

[] ask her to cut the straps and catch the both of us

[] ask her to slice the tree limbs and save the straps

I motion to the branch, and Sally nods, lengthening the claws on the back of her hands, and slashing with them, the golden blades and her own red nails making short work of the branches holding Zoe and me hostage. Her hands then dart out, catching the two of us just as we begin to fall.

I begin to think that perhaps I had underestimated Sally's strength previously- she's carrying both Zoe and myself rather well, and her descent to the forest floor is very well controlled. Once we're about three or so feet off the ground, she lets us down, and I begin to brush the twigs and dirt off my clothes, and then repeat the process with Zoe's.

Aslan clambers down from his tree limb, and the two ogre digimon lumber out of the craters their impacts made, joining the four of us at the roots of the tree.

Everyone is looked over, just to make sure none of us are hurt, and when it's certain that we're all fine, I actually take a good look around.

We're in a forest, obviously, but a forest made entirely of trees the size of ten-storey buildings. That includes the size around- you could fit a house in each of these trees, and still have some square feet left over. Roots bend and wind every which way, and flowers the size of people sprout from vines the thicker than a bridge cable.

The wood of the trees is stranger still- it seems to shift colors- opalescent, ever moving and changing from greens to blues and everything between. It's with no small degree of amazement that I realize that this is the digital world- this is our desitnation.

I look up, and beyond the trees, I can see glimpses of a strange, multi-colored sky; blues wrestle with yellows and greens in clouds of pink, and the sun's rays shine down gold upon the forest we've found ourselves in.

It's simultaneously breathtaking and confusing, and I can't seem to make any sense of it.
>>
In Lamia Quest the procedure is pick the highest among the first 3, with a 1 negating the highest and leaving you with the last available roll among the 3.

>>
>>25459527
>http://youtu.be/g__YaQjBCYg Messed up with that...

Sally is looking around with the same amount of wonder- maybe even more. This is where she comes from, after all. Zoe's eyes have gone wide, and she won't stop turning in circles, drinking the sights in. Aslan doesn't seem to share the sentiment, but I can see the secret delight shining in the lion's eyes. He thinks it's great, too.

Our guides aren't so enraptured, though, and they keep looking around, as if worried something might happen.

Faintly, I can hear my digivice beeping in my pocket.

What should I do?

>>
>>25460421
She's the canon path.
So she's the cheapest to get (since we have 600 points after evolving Sally, we should be conservative about what we aim for, at least starting out).
Given she's a Great Demon Lord, and at Ultimate level (well, Mega in the dub), and how it's pretty important for us to become strong, it'll be important to go with what gets us the most strength.

...Still, first we need to gain LadyDevimon, and since that one opens up pretty much all paths, it should be an agreeable path for everyone.

I pull the Digivice out once again, and flip it open in between gawking glances at the world around us.

As soon as I look back to the small contraption that sent us here, the screen changes to a flat, gray screen, with a small splotch of color off of the center. It begins to zoom rapidly, and I realize that this is a map; A map of the digital world, or at least, part of it.

I can only see a tiny it of the area around us- I'm assuming the small red dot is us, or at the very least me- and it almost looks like the gray was simply erased where we landed; almost like one of the maps you have to fill in as you walk in a videogame.

So, we have a couple of guides and a map...now we just needed a destination.

Looking to the others, I can see that Zoe's pulled out her Digivice, which probably means that she has a map as well. I turn back to mine, and look around again, this time paying attention to the scale of the map.

From what I can see...the initial range I can see on the Digivice is huge. The part of the digital world that's mapped out extends beyond my range of vision, definitely.

I'm a bit unsure of what to do now...

Adventure, Tamers, and Savers all have vastly different mechanics. However, what they have in common narratively is what I consider "classic digimon". 02 was shit, but close enough narratively, Frontier got rid of the digimon partners, and Xros Wars ditched levels until it suddenly didn't and brought in armies.
>>
>>25462059
I'd personally like to see gale do new things with the universe, which he's been doing very nicely. That includes party makeup. if we're lucky it will either blend "classic" and army manager or something we haven't seen yet

It doesn't have to include anything about army management; that part could easily be abstracted.
>>

>>25462383
If we aren't going to be doing any army management, in a quest, then why amass the army at all? If we want to amass an army, then there should be army management gameplay elements.

I step closer to Sally, who's still looking about in wide-eyed wonder at her homeland, and place a hand on her shoulder as we both share in the beauty of where we've landed.

"It's amazing," I tell her, and she just nods.

"Yeah, it is." She whispers, before looking to me. "And it's in trouble..." Her expression has dimmed somewhat, but I can understand. We're here to save this world, after all.

"And we'll save it." I don't let any uncertainty into my voice, and she seems to draw some confidence from that. I leave her to her thoughts with a reassuring nod and a squeeze on the shoulder.

Zoe is already quiet, but as I walk near, she turns to me with an almost expectant gaze. I notice that she seems to be breathing quite well; better than before we left, to be sure. I can't supress a smile at that, and she smiles back.

"How're you feeling?" I ask, and her smile grows even bigger.

"I'm....I'm feeling better than I have in a long time." She answers, sounding quite sure of herself, and I can't help but feel that there's something about this place that's doing Zoe a lot of good.

"Well, we'll just have to make sure you get even better, then." I reply, and she nods, her smile growing even larger.

Aslan pads over as we're talking, and there's a simple exchange of nods between the two of us. I guess we're kind of cool now, but I'm not gonna do anything to mess that up or jinx it. I leave the two of them to talk, and decide to head a little further out...
>>
>>25463003

I turn North, based on the map, and start to walk in that direction. As the map fills in, I can see that this forest seems to be on or near some sort of elevated or rocky terrain, based on the texture of the surroundings on the map itself. And, just to prove that theory, I start to see towering rock formations here and there, with trees growing over or around them. Many of them appear to be old and weathered, but some of them have long, crawling cracks up and down their licken and vine-covered faces.

Getting closer to one of them, I can see that what I mistook for cracks at first are in fact carvings- though of what I can't tell.

Then I hear something in the foliage behind me.
