The room crackles with firelight. Before you sits Dowanhowee, an elder of the Espowye, the native people of Ulvenwald who have hunted vampires and other, stranger things for centuries. To his right, Ahote, a brave of his clan; to your right, Scarlet, your handmaiden, she-of-the-bloody-hair.

His golden eyes burn with the flame of the sun. Your silver ones capture that light, and reflect it back. Neither of you will show any sign of weakness.

Dowanhowee scowls at you, and reiterates his point.

"Your 'wonders' are foolishness, and I will not let you endanger my people with them."

It would appear that this man does not hold the technology of the settlers on his land in any high esteem. Perhaps justified, given that what he has seen of it is the coal-black metropolis of Eyesocket, city of lost potential, and the things cast away from it to prowl the woods.

But you know that for all his talk, this man cannot have failed to see the destructive power of Grand Victoria. And he carries a pistol by his side, not a bow.

This is nothing but haggling for a better price.

"Dowanhowee. You know and I know that the weapons and supplies I can give you far outstrip anything you could make yourself. The settlers did not carve out this land and keep it without fighting for it and winning, and they are weak warriors compared to your people."

He shakes his head.

"Kuruk, my warriors do not know how your wonders are used, how they are built, how they are repaired and maintained. They might as well be magic, for all the good they will do my warriors without training."

You nod.

"But I know those things. I offer you that knowledge as well, Dowanhowee."

He snorts dismissively.

"Perhaps. In the meantime, I will need more than supplies!"

You are Isabella Katarina Markova, twelfth of the line of Carmilla, thirteen generations from Dracula, the First. This places you with enough blood and power to make you a minor noble in Shadescast, the city of vampires, and possess your own castle- which does not necessarily have normal geometry, and which is not always in the same place. Though your physical appearance is that of a young girl, you are actually three and a half centuries old.

You spend your time responding to requests from other vampires for lore, and holding tea parties and other social events, both with humans and vampires. On occasion, you indulge in adding one or two of them to your collection of porcelain dolls...

Recently, you were attacked by a human vampire hunter who managed to temporarily kill you. Upon rising from death, you turned him into your faithful hound... but first he managed to majorly deface your castle and burn a portion of your library, including some hard-to-replace texts. Signs point to him having been hired by a rival vampire... one who was here, and took one of your dolls. Your first suspect wasn't the culpritā€¦ but that didn't stop you from eating him.

You have turned the Mayor of Mark into your soft, gooey servant. This is useful to you due to your airship yard there, which you got for a song off of a fellow vampiric noble by the name of Blackford. The deal took a little screaming at the foreman, but once it was sorted out, you returned to your castleā€¦

Which was when you found that one of your servants had disappeared. Fortunately, Scarlet, one of your Dolls' creations, dragged her back to the Castle for you. In return, Scarlet was given the girl as her maid.

Five minutes later, you almost ate Scarlet after taking backlash from a failed scrying attempt.

Since then, your head maid attempted to assassinate you with cutlery and is being held for experimentation on, and you have taken an enemy vampire's fief by the old tradition of murder.

I'd rather not offer them passage through our castle. They're savages, and it might offend Castle if we admitted large numbers of such unsavory folk.

Besides, what if we had an unexpected visitor from our shipyard, or a city official? It would be unseemly if we had a bunch of woodland indians running around our home.

Let's offer them protection. We've got a lot of very deadly minions that could surely be of use to them.

Do you want to offer to sponsor a war with Eyesocket?
>>
>>25458630
Depends, is that feasible? We don't want to openly oppose a whole city state but if it's a war of resistance from the shadows we might be able to help.
>>
Sometime soon we ought to try to find out in detail what sort of political positions the commies in Grand Victoria are advocating for.

Because if they have a sort of anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism thing going on, we might be able to find a role for these native warriors in the coming revolution.
>>
>>25458648
Eyesocket is large, but fractious. If you could arrange some form of conflict in the city, or get one of the factions in the city on your side, you might well be able to make a takeover.

Of course, there is the issue that there are almost certainly other vampires in Eyesocket, given what's wandering the woods.
>>
>>25458630
Eeeeeeeegh. Risky call right now. Open war is out of the question, but if the Espowye want to kick out Eyesocket, then who are we to stop them? As long as we get to pillage the ruins for materials and to fill our coffers, it should make for an interesting project.

For now, I'm voting for extending our protection over them from other vampires. That's the crux of our overall deal, after all. Assist us in tearing down our enemies, and we'll see to it that our enemies never touch the Espowye. Fortunately, we don't have many enemes yet.
>>
>>25458303
You let the topic drop. You suppose that's one in the chieftain's favor.

"Very well then, Dowanhowee. I can also supply you with warriors who know how to wield those weapons, men like the ones Ahote has hunted with. I can offer you hounds stronger than any you will find in the woods; and should you have dire need, I offer you my personal vow to protect your clan with every means at my disposal."

Ahote tilts his head, considering.

"We have protected ourselves well enough these past years, Kuruk, without any help from you. But it is better to put fewer braves at risk. That is something that may be worth bargaining for."

> Roll Acumen and decide what you want in exchange.
> His warriors will hunt your enemies.
> You learn more of the tribe's magic.
> They teach you about Ulvenwald.
>>
>>25458735
Oh yeah, it's easy to pull the city-state apart, but the rammifications give me pause at the moment. If Dowanhowee presses the issues and says they plan on destroying Eyesocket, then all we have to say is "Well, don't let me stop you." It's tacit approval without overtly going out of our way to help them.

Of course we WILL help them, yeah, but pulling apart Eyesocket is a delicate proposition right now.
>>
>>25458735

>>

"I have need of hunters and the Espowye are some of the finest I've ever seen. Besides, there are only so many different beasts to hunt within these woods, the world is a large place and the stories that come from hunting my enemies will be grand indeed."

True. But then we'll get Shadescast vampires banging on Castlevania's door, demanding to know how and why an entire city-state evaporated overnight.

>>
>>25458828

> His warriors will hunt your enemies.

We can get a better idea of their magic later on. Once we get to know them better. Right now we just need warriors.

>>25458832

Agreed. I kind of think people are rushing a little to fast to mess with city states and the like. When we have lots of time to work on it. Make fake names and worm our way into mortal society. I'd rather control a part of eyesocket then erase it.
>>
>>25458971
Make no mistake that Eyesocket is pretty much the walking dead when it comes to city-states.
>>
>>25458906
>>25458971
We don't NEED warriors right now. We're still only doing research to find the real culprit behind our death and our doll's disappearance, so there's not an immediate pressing need. Plus, Ahote's binding spear aside, most of the work was done by our constructs. With stronger magics, we could make Isabella and -- by proxy -- our constructs stronger, which lessens the overt need of the Espowye. Hell, maybe learning their magic will grant us insight into that binding technique Ahote used to prevent Nalus from shapeshifting. That's why I think we should get the magic.

Also while I'm here in a active thread. One day we need to make a fighting outfit. With the boost Nalus gave to our speed and strength it is actually worth it now. Thinking something like a bonus to Celerity, Ferocity and Eeriness. But a big drop in Masquerade. The boost we got from Nalus isn't quite enough to justify changing our overall fighting style (mind powers and magic). Isabella isn't that overtly physical right now, but I can see what you're getting at.

They have holy type magic and our flesh beasts are a one way ticket to scrying on us. While if we start out with the basics. This being use your warriors to help me we can always just change the agreement later on.

And if any warriors get captured and scryed on they will just see some random village in the middle of no where. Because we won't let any villagers other then the leader in the castle..right?

>>
>>25459181

Yeah. But it is kind of sad our currently most used outfit doesn't boost Eeriness at all though isn't it?

+10 even to our current Eeriness will give us 70. While +5 even on the fighting stats would give us about 39 to 44 on the stats. While currently when we do a fight we are rolling -10 to our physical meaning we have almost no chance to succeed but though blind luck. Which really isn't good considering almost every single fight uses at least one of the physical stats.

You nod.

"Yes, Dowanhowee; and in exchange for this aid, I would like to learn of your magics. They would be of great use to me, and might reveal new insights I could..."

Dowanhowee holds up one hand, forestalling you.

"Kuruk. Understand that our magic is what has sustained us for centuries. Understand that it is sacred. Understand that it is impossible for us to know what you will do with that knowledge. We cannot give our magics to any wolf-that-walks, no matter who it might be. It is not available to you. We are sorry for this, but this is ancient law, and it is beyond my authority to breach. We will help you in any other way we can, but we cannot extend that gift to you."

This isn't bluster; you can tell from the caution in his voice. You choose not to press the issue, and instead press your advantage.

"Well then. In that case, I would ask for the use of your warriors. As I can give you warriors unlike any you know, so can you give me warriors unlike any I know. Your braves are strong, possess magic I do not, and unlike my hounds, can think for themselves. I would very much like to have some of them in my service."

>>
>>25459749
So what is happening in this thread. I see we agreed to work with the clan, I wasn't for killing the guy, but I think theres a risk involved here, he and his bunch are just humans. We should be focussing on who the real culprit behind the dollnapping was. I'd be for it if Ahote and crew are capable investigators but it seems that the doll has been forgotten for now. Our fleshcrafting secrets are bound up in that doll, and if they get out, there goes our living. Errr, unliving.

But on the note of this guy, having some actual free willed humans on our crew could be nice. Except there is no way they can possibly go into the regular cities for us, because where would little Miss Markova get some Ulvenwaldan natives to employ in her household? They may be good against supernaturals, but how are they against a hunter?
>>
>>25459881
The doll hasn't been forgotten. We're having this interview with the chief of the Espowye because he was literally banging on our door to meet with us. Once this is done, we can start digging up new leads on where the doll went. Perhaps a proper, fully prepared seance after this is in order?

I don't think fleshcrafting is that rare. Even the other vampire dude whose name i forgot that had his own version of our hounds

>Ulvenwaldan natives
They can go into regular cities as long as they don't say they work for us
>>
>>25459881

I would guess fairly decent. Most hunters I don't think would expect when they attack a dozen dudes with magic spears to show up and stab them in the face. Dudes that most anti vampire enchantments won't be too useful on.
>>
>>25459809
Dowanhowee is a man with few obvious buttons to push, but over the course of some extended haggling, you manage to gather a certain amount of information.

Dowanhowee is the leader of the entire Espowye tribe, but this does not mean he has the power to change the ancient law. That law is determined by a council of tribes held every five years, and there are at least two other tribes in the area that the Espowye hold council with. Another tribe to the south has been giving them trouble recently, but they're holding their own and pushing the interlopers back.

He appears to have found your castle by tracking back from the destroyed village, which means he likely knows that you take slaves, and may have an idea that your hounds are made from people.

The deal, though, remains the same: he will give you a group of six braves for your personal guard; in exchange, you will give him and his your full protection as if his tribe were part of your household staff. Hopefully this will open doors with the tribe later on.

Dowanhowee says that he will choose the braves to be in your service over the next day, and to expect them at the next sunset. However, he would like a half-dozen of your hounds immediately.

> Accept the exchange? Any questions you'd like to ask? Anything before we continue?
>>
>>25459881
Well after cross referencing people who have visited recently, connections in Ulvenwald, and reasons to dislike us we had Nalus and one other guy. Also our Sister is possible but I'm not thinking it was her.

So we're left with

>A vampire of the line of Lestat, Agen Lioncourt. Tenth of his line, if you recall correctly. He was staked by an angry mob as a direct result of your riot in Mori, and lost much of his holdings as well. Now he has property in Ulvenwald as a way of avoiding future entanglements.

So next step is to investigate the fuck out of him.
>>
>>25459962
He had wolves.
Actual, literal wolves taken from the forest as a pack.

Non-modified.

Your hounds slaughtered them.
>>
>>25459974
Six hounds is, like, most of the Pack. Shit, man.

Fine, take the dogs. At least we can scry on them with our Pack Charm.

Nothing else comes to mind.
>>
>>25460013
You were going to have more made anyway. You should be able to bring the pack back to strength with the slaves you currently hold (and will do so if nobody objects.)
>>
>>25459962
>They can go into regular cities as long as they don't say they work for us
If you notice in the map in >>25459224, Ulvenwald is way the hell away from anywhere else. A bunch of Ulvenwald-native braves spontaneously showing up in Mark would raise far too many eyebrows, especially if they're coming out of OUR estate.
>>
>>25459974
How many people does it take to make a Hound?

Ask him if he would like to provide a hunter as their Huntsman or if they should remain without one.

Tell him that it takes time, not too long, to craft them, but we'll get them to him as we replenish our own numbers.

Obviously make sure there's a backdoor in all of them so we can regain control of them and view what they view should we wish.

Ask him more about the other two tribes and the one to the south of him.
>>
>>25460039
seems fine
>>
>>25459974

Honestly I think we should up the braves to 8. For that number of hounds.
>>
>>25460061
>>25460107
I wouldn't worry about it right now and just let the dogs go. It's not like we're in an offensive position right now, nor is pressing the issue with Dowanhowee a good idea.
>>
>>25460134

True. I would just mention that while this is a good starting deal. We might be more willing to help him later if he adds a little something. But that much is all him and the deal is a go as is.
>>
>>25460188
You accept the deal, and order the hounds to be released to Dowanhowee; he nods to you respectfully and asks that they be sent to the Ulvenwald gate.

It's not unusual for a noble to order pistols, but it would be out-of-character for your persona in Mark, as a young heiress who ought not to be thinking about such things. It might raise a few eyebrows.

So Grand Victorian elegance is what I'm hearing here.
>>

Timeless and elegant. Lots of dark earthy and homey tones, reds, silvers, tans, not much gold. Get some old-fashioned styled tapestries and artwork, plush soft rugs in sitting rooms, redecorate the fireplaces and make sure they're looking good.

We're posing as a 13 year old Noble's daughter, ordering guns would raise some serious questions. Besides, what precisely do we need guns for? Did Izzy seriously wade into combat at some point that I missed, she is one of the foremost fleshcrafters in her region, we make armies of high quality minions from the tossed out grindings of society. Being forced into combat is so not Izzy.

Crit success. Don't fuck with Isabella's wards.

You focus your third eye on Sophia's prison cell, following the scrying runes you left there.

Sophia is free... But you note with satisfaction that one of her would-be rescuers has been torn in half by scythes of shadow spiraling out from your wards.

There appear to be two left, along with Sophia- who is hardly in much condition to fight. You can't see very well through the shadow, but their weapons and kit appear to be that of someone out to kill a vampire.

Dragging her from the room, they vanish from your field of view, but the shadows surge after them...

Roll Eeriness twice (first to get a better idea of the invaders by mystic castle awareness, second is continued ward attack.)

Then roll Acumen to direct response of the guards.

Your wards catch one of the two remaining interlopers as he sprits for the door, and hands of shadow pry his helmet off and tear his eyes out as his fellow continues running, dragging Sophia with him.

Moments later, the ward is burned away by white magic, vanishing from your newly-extended senses. It's too late for the man on the floor- the hands have taken his skin already. His companion slits his throat out of mercy.

As he leans over the body, you see his insignia is that of the Victorian Inquisition!

Someone is playing with fire.

You extend your mystic senses, nudging the castle for help, and find a scattered group of three other warriors. It would appear that they put down one of your tin soldiers on their way in as well.

You order your servants to quickly get word to everyone who needs it, and what remains of the pack and the tin soldiers are rallied.

Unfortunately, your forces are weak, and it would appear the next destination of the hunters is the slave pens. If they are freed, your forces could be distracted for long enough to make this a disaster. You send the hounds there direct, issuing the command through the eye. The interlopers won't find any reinforcements here.

The baying of the pack answers your call.

Then... only darkness.

...
>>
>>25462390
Agreed. Honestly, when we got a fucking natural 1 on our Wards, and they got a 100 on their Celerity back when this started, it shouldn't have been us catching one person.

And despite the times we said take them alive, we got nothing but a pile of corpses.
>>
>>25462440
Apparently we don't learn from our mistakes.
>>
>>25462443
Welp, we got dusted. Again...

Seriously, if we ever reincorporate, we're moving. Board up the castle, and just move, let our shipyard do it's thing, lay low 10 years. Secretly investigate our sister. Secretly figure out who let the inquisition in.

Seriously though, Nobody expected the Victorian Inquisition

I now regret being against fleshcrafting Sophia...

If we ever capture her again, she will beg us to kill her after what we do to her.
>>
>>25462454
You awaken.
Blood burns on your lips, filling your mouth and nostrils with the delicious copper tang of renewed life. Your withered lungs stir, breathing in air choked with dust.

Someone is calling you back from your sleep.

You smile. The blood in your mouth is fresh and hot, not long parted from its owner. It's more than enough to breathe life into your doll-like body once again.
You grasp the edge of the indentation you lie in and drag yourself into a seated position, blurry eyes searching for the one who revived you.

A familiar face swims into view. A woman, her hair red as blood. Scarlet.

She grasps your arm.

"Welcome back to the land of the living, Isabella. You've been dead for almost a day. Where should I start?"
>>
>>25462544

We don't have to move. We just need to close the gate to Mark. Besides, I wouldn't do that just yet, not until we know exactly what happened in the day after our death. If news of our death got to our shipyard, they'd riot and start the revolution themselves.
>>
>>25462615
Sometimes we just need to kill a problem and be done with it. Haven't you seen any movies? Overly elaborate tortures inevitably backfire on the BBEG.
>>
>>25462443
I have to raise an objection to how a lot of this section was done. When someone fails an attack roll it shouldn't be rerolled multiple times, if someone fails an attack they fail the attack, you don't need to defend against a failed attack. It felt rushed, just one dice roll to the next, no chance for us to actually set anything up or use magic. The hounds rolled really fucking well and didn't do all that much, considering how quickly and easily they quelled the slaves they should have been nipping, and I mean tearing out, the heels of Sophia and co.

In general we rolled really well throughout this, until the very end, and each success didn't really fix anything, it just moved on to the next chance for us to get fucked.
>>
>>25462635
How long was Sophia a SERVANT in our castle, she was our god damned head maid for a while right?

She is probably going to spill her guts if she lived through that last volley.

"Scarlet, is that traitorous whore's body still here, I want to eat it.

>>25462659
Seriously, this guy has it right, end her, if she has a body, eat it. Fuck Sophia, she can rot in hell, that should be the end of it. I'm still for a move, because if she did survive, we're in trouble.

>>25462689
Sophia had 4 knives, she threw all 4 of them and made separate rolls for each. We dodged 2, got one in the gut, dodged the last, then she pulled one and put it in our eye.
>>
Dear Everyone,

Can we stop rushing through shit?

Our stats right now are pitiful. We need to stop making rash decisions, build ourselves up a little bit (make a time skip or two so we can get rid of a bunch of grinding) and take down a few more vampires. We need raw materials because as of right now we're running really thin and its showing in everything that we try to do.

We need to shore up our defenses, build up and consolidate our holdings, and then expand when we've reached a critical mass.

Imagine what we could do with a hundred packs of hounds.

Oh trying to take her alive is a horrible idea, but I love it. I see Izzy's entirely thought process as follows.

1. Get lonely.
2. Abduct surrogate family figure.
3. Lavish them with attention and try to make them love us.
4. Drive them insane with our horrendous control issue.
5. Be incredibly hurt when they inevitably betray us.
6. Mind rape/fleshcrafting.
7. Sulk.
8. Repeat.
>>
>>25462732
Still doesn't explain how the Inquisition came after Isabella.
>>
>>25462757
Hello vampire that hates us.
>>
>>25462727
No, that's not how the knife throwing worked, he made a Ferocity check, failed, we failed at Celerity, and then because we both failed we rerolled over and over and over until finally she got a success and we got a failure. Reread it.
>>
She smiles, and passes you a shard of crystal.

"Her body is gone. What remains of it is on your lips. This holds what is left of her mind. I thought that you might wish to have the satisfaction yourself."

The crystal pulses faintly to your magical senses. You can feel the mind of your enemy within it...

It's very satisfying to crush beneath your heel.

"The intruders."

"Are all dead. It would appear that nobody knows where they've gone, so we've dodged a bullet there. I suspect whoever sent them was a vampire themselves, and did not wish them to spread word to the larger organization in case their meddling became known. Now, no-one asks questions about who planned the incompetent attack."
>>
>>25462820
We didn't even get anything to interrogate?
>>
>>25462757
I would assume that either they were henchmen of an enemy vampire impersonating members of the Inquisition, or they were basically "dirty cops" who were paid off by one of our enemies to come after us.
>>
>>25462834
You growl at her.

"I said to take them alive."

She frowns.

"It was chaotic. None of them were unwounded. Rose took the opportunity to hide and I had to coax her out again with her rose. By the time everything was dealt with, they were all dead... And I will note that it was hard enough to make sure we got the illusionist. "
>>
>>25462876
Confirmed to be dirty cops in >>25462820. Our cover is safe, and no one's the wiser, but now we know someone is actively gunning for us.
>>
>>25462779
I see what you're saying, rereading that, I agree, we didn't really have an option to defend our selves, we were just responding. That's a problem with quests though, it's hard to keep a running iniative.

I'm going to trust Alucard to give us a chance in the future, but again, we shouldn't have been standing between her and the door anyway, that was a bad decision that lead to this. We're never supposed to get into combat, we could have sent angel and scarlet after them, or dominated her through a scry and made her suicide or something.

>>25462820
I stand by my idea to move, we don't know who is attacking us, and there is no telling if they are planning another attack as we recover right now. We could probably build up some traps to defend any sensitive portions of our castle, but the castle is probably it's own best defense.

Lets go to our sister.

>>25462893
"You did well overall, I'm still upset, I would have liked to tear her heart out myself. Summon whats left of the troops and staff, I need to make tally of losses, and see what other damage has been incurred."
>>

>>
>>25462926

>>
>>25462944

>>
>>25462926
If we disappear, people will wonder what's up, notably the mayor and our shipyard.
We should liquidate our chattel, replenish our forces and make new stuff, like those grotesques we'd been planning for a while.
>>
>>25462757
>>25462749
We don't know that it was the Inquisition.

We've made very little in the way of mistakes in Mark. It's probably the same vampire that tried to kill us...oh...I don't know...a fucking fortnight ago?
>>
>>25462972
Exactly. We've been making headway since the first attack, and now that Nalus is dead, he knows we're still alive and looking for him, so he tried again.

This gives us new criteria to find him: our enemy vampire has connections not just in Mark and/or the whole of Grand Victoria, but within the Inquisition itself.
>>
>>25462972
yeah we do. one of the guys had the symbol of the Victorian Inquisition.
>>
>>25463009
All of them, in fact. It's in their uniform.

Come to think of it, what exactly did Scarlet do with the bodies...?
>>
>>25462966
I'm not sure what your getting at, there is someone out there that very nearly ended us. They have a vendetta, here's how I see Isabella rating her list of things important to her.

1. Unlife as in not getting the Final Death
2. Dolls/Flesh-crafted creations.
3. Making money/getting bitches
4. Getting even with Sister dearest.

>>25462972
We know they were dirty Inquistion there at the behest of the vampire, we don't know if the vampire does or does not have the influence to send another Inquisition team at us. Staying there seems like a bad idea.

Alucard, can we do something to check if our castle/us/our servants are being actively scryed right now, or have been scryed in the last day. That should help our decision process.
>>
>>25463028
Better yet, where did those clothes go? We could make a hell of a dress out of all that fine Inquisition fabric.
>>
>>25463044
You have passive wards for this that will alert you. They haven't been triggered.
>>
>>25463044
Self-preservation comes first, yes, but that doesn't mean we retreat into our castle for a year. Now they'll most definitely keep coming after us until they know we've suffered True Death. We're gonna step it up, find our doll, find the rat vampire, and eat his fucking jugular. We can't do that if we retreat into our shell.
>>
>>25462820
>This holds what is left of her mind

Since they seemed to know about her. Could we possibility rip the info out of what is left?

>>25463046
>We could make a hell of a dress out of all that fine Inquisition fabric.

To Do List:

Get more chattel.

A lot of them.

I'm talking about for the whole next week all we're going to do is gather up groups of homeless and undesirable pieces of shit from Eyesocket and turn them into useful minions that we can use to protect ourselves.

Each day we have a different focus, and we should be able to accomplish each thing in only a single day. We have at least 8 hours to collect the people, enough for two trips of at least 20 people. That gives us 40 people worth of raw materials to work with a day, and we can sort of take our time.

Day 1: Fleshcrafting slaves. Basically things specially made to aid in our craft and allow us greater possibilities whenever we fleshcraft in the future.
Day 2: Lots of strong, dumb protectors.
Day 3: A few strong, magically inclined assassins
Day 4: Small beings resembling falcons which we use for spying and passive stat bonuses (they've got mental powers up the wazoo, and we keep them nearby at all times).
Day 5: Two twins perfectly resembling humans, except upgraded in every way.
Day 6: Anything we or our tribal braves can think of that will allow us to murder the fuck out of other vampires (which should be one of our higher priorities)
Day 7: Officers to lead and make our strong dumb soldiers from day 1 more effective.

In my opinion we haven't used one of our greatest strengths nearly enough and it's about time we toughen up instead of risking our very life in every engagement we partake in.
>>
>>25463081
It's already been reduced to slivers. Sophia has wholly ceased to exist.
>>
>>25463102
Dude, if ANYONE knows how to get blood stains out of fabric, it's a vampire. She's probably got some super-baking-soda somewhere.
>>
>>25463077
I'm not suggesting we retreat into our castle, I'm suggesting we totally abandon it for a decade. Lil Miss Markova had an accident, died, no heirs/family, she's gone now. Then we move, vanish, ghost ourselves, go somewhere else, I'm suggesting our sister, because if she is the one responsible for this being in her castle protects us by virtue of the Guest Rules. If we're living with her, she can't harm us without endangering herself, we can also start from scratch, and keep an eye on our old place, see if something/someone turns up to find the trail, then trace them back.

And thus a vampire hijacked our castle because it is a lost relic with no one defending it.
>>
>>25463138
The castle is one of our greatest assets.

Giving it up would pretty much give up 90% of our assets.

We wouldn't be able to administrate our airship yard, any of our Uvenwald holdings, our servants would be taken from us, our greatest talent in fleshcrafting would be unavailable to us, etc.

This is the worst idea I've ever heard.
>>
>>25463138
That's far too radical a plan for me to be comfortable with. We should stick to our guns. Liquidate our chattel to replenish our forces and create new projects, and restart the hunt in earnest. Last I checked, we were about to have a proper seance to scry where our doll went when the alarms triggered.

Even if they notice (which is unlikely, considering we're taking away troublemakers and undesirables), they'll ENJOY that. We're taking away beggars, orphans, and homeless people. The people literally no one cares about. Eyesocket is a big place, with many thousands of people living in it. We can do it.

It's our only hope at not getting wrecked in future encounters.
>>
>>25463315
If anyone notices chattel disappearing off the streets, it's other vampires who use the same materials for their own projects (not just fleshcrafting). If someone is gobbling up all the supply, they're going to notice.
>>
>>25463252

eh dude we have not bonus to eeriness. We have one to acrumen yeah but our eeriness is the same.
>>
>>25463138
We're not going to go and beg for Sister Dearest's protection. Absolutely not. It's too undignified. Our Castlevania is fine, we just need to start using it more effectively.

For starters, defense. Spend a week or two gathering up feedstock, fleshcraft tons of guardians for the castle, post them on every hallway and entrance. Apply more wards to the dungeon levels and other important rooms like the library and especially the fleshcraft chamber. Anti scrying wards, as well. Tons of them. Fucking everywhere. Maybe some mindfuckery wards that make people want to stay the fuck away from this castle.

Also investigate that other vampire that was on our hitlist, the one who was living in Ulvenwald and wasn't Nalus.
>>
>>25463293
I see, something that bumped Eeriness and Ferocity, or perhaps Acumen and Ferocity and Celerity. It would be expensive, there is that dressmaker we have contacts with on the way to our airship yard, she might be able to do it, she did our last one and that turned out well.
>>
>>25463252
Really, really difficult.

The fleshcrafting pool is literally part of the floor, for one thing.

And transporting one's coffin is... a risky proposition at best.
>>
>>25463331
They can't track us down.

The fact that there are still homeless people left is a testament to the fact that other vampires don't need them for anything.

Look, we're only going to be there for a week. The chances of us being caught are slim, and even if we are, we're a goddamn vampire. What are people going to do? Complain?
>>
>>25463369
How many chattel could we steal from Eyesocket before people would start to notice? Would they even care if they did notice? I mean, its not like the people we want to take are valuable members of their society anyway...
>>
>>25463342
You wouldn't have had nearly the issues that you did if your pack hadn't been about 3 wolves and your soldiers weren't at half strength.

As it was there wasn't a pair for the guard on duty that was taken out, and then the wolves had to stay and keep the prisoners in line because they didn't have enough to split up.

>>25463369
That settles it. We're not abandoning Castlevania, ever. We're too invested. If people want to attack us, so be it.
>>
>>25463268
Except the nobility of Eyesocket are all nigh-sociopathic mad scientists. At worst, they'll be slightly miffed that we're taking all of their toys. They might even be glad we're getting rid of all the filthy peasantry.

It might even serve to splinter the nobles. If each of them thinks another noble is taking people off the streets, they'll move against each other which makes our eventual goal of metaphorically sucking Eyesocket dry all that much easier.
>>
>>25463394
Posting Arthur as the picture makes the context of this post extra ironic.
>>
>>25463393
Still. We should really be more paranoid regarding the defense of our Castlevania.
>>
>>25463389
It would only piss off people you care about if they were that someone's property in the first place.

Otherwise it could result in >>25463395
>>
>>25463394
We did spend some holdings on sprucing up the castle.

We can totally swing installing some traps. I'm sure the castle would like feeling like it has some tangible defenses of its own for once.
>>
>>25463393
So they attacked us when they knew we were short-handed, notably after the attack on Nalus. Not so much lacking the pack, because the attack happened literally minutes after the Espowye chief left, so their timing was especially fortuitous.
>>
>>25463355

My ideal battle dress is.

+Eeriness, Ferocity, and Celerity but -say 15-20 masquerade. Something that just screams powerful old arcane vampire with easy movements.
>>
>>25463421
THAT SETTLES IT, WE'RE BECOMING ISABELLA MARKOVA, STREET JUSTICE OFFICER.
>>
>>25463439
You had sent off the pack and then basically as soon as they left, WHAM inquisition.

Hours, maybe less.

Someone has good intelligence.
>>
>>25463394
Still gonna say I told you so. It's not uncommon for vampires to take decade long vacations when the heat gets too hot.

Our attacker has us at a disadvantage, I'm just worried they will use that against us again. Then we'll get dusted...again, maybe, I dunno, we had some pretty shitty rolls there.

>>25463439
That's another thing that strikes me as odd, it was convenient for the chief to have left when he did. We haven't done a background check on this chief guy, and we just agreed to a deal with him. I'm paranoid as fuck, I say we investigate him to make sure he's not working for another vampire at the same time. He admitted he's dealt with them in the past, what if someone promised him something if he spills the beans on us?

>>25463452
If our dress maker makes something with a masquerade penalty, wouldn't she be concerned?
>>
>>25463452
The negative Masquerade would make sense. Isabella's war dress would only ever be worn at times of war. If we're called out to a duel in the middle of Shadescast, then it's not Isabella the littlest hikki, but rather ISABELLA THE CONQUEROR shows up.
>>
>>25463495
The Grand Victorian Inquisition and the Espowye tribe of Ulvenwald are literally an ocean apart. They're not going to coordinate like that.

>If our dress maker makes something with a masquerade penalty, wouldn't she be concerned?
Which is why we'd go to a Shadescast tailor.
>>
>>25463495
I'm guessing we wouldn't be going to our ordinary dress maker to make combat gear.

Besides, we'd probably want to incorporate some degree of armor into the outfit (at least a breastplate) given our tendency towards being shanked in the chest.
>>
>>25463495

That is my worry as well. Still it is something that would be absurdly useful in the castle. Though I wonder if we could get the base dress done. Then arcane it up with magic signal and the like to hide how the completed one will look? Only issue I see is that and the acumen bonus is useful.

Anyway I think we should stay but boost our numbers of wolves and the like up up and away to make it very hard to attack. Given one of the big issues is our current strength level was too low.
>>
>>25463546
The picture shows off rather wicked armguards, at least.
>>
>>25463470
>Extremely good timing
>They went to rescue Sophia first

It's taken care of, we have nothing to worry about.

We need to stop making stupid decisions. We're a three hundred year old vampire and we live in a dangerous world.

We need to smarten up and start acting like we should. We did stupid shit early on because it was funny or cute, and we're still paying the price for it now.

That changes today. No more near-death experiences. No more humiliation. No more failed checks. We're going to take the vampire world by storm. Who's with me?
>>
>>25463535

ANTI SCRYING WARDS

FUCKING EVERYWHERE. NOW.

Also read Snackwell's mind. Also the number guy, I forget his name. They could have found a way to leak information.
>>
>>25463614
As I said.

You already have the best anti-scrying wards installed you can make.

>>
>>25463633

If our goal is to get fucking murdered forever, that is. Otherwise it's a shit idea.

Hmm, then that suggest we have an informant in our mansion. Kill everyone other than our dolls and fleshcrafted constructs and find new servants!
>>
>>25463633
Which means there's a leak, somewhere.

I suspect that it may be one of our non-mindcuddled servants. Or somebody who is invisible, I guess. Either way, we need more defences.

Butbutbut the voodoo money!
>>

Honestly not that hard.

Step one. Build up a freak show of horrors and teach a few magic.
Step two. Build up a nice air fleet using our 4 holdings a week.
Step three. Slowly build up a info network using the same techniques we used on the mayor rarely leaving.
Step four. Get more then chattel find weakish mages and ghoul/Fleashcraft them.
Step 5. Once high levels of defense is achieved start looking a little harder for this guy. Play sources and wait for them to make a mistake.
>>
>>25463695
Our mind-dominated staff has long since been proven loyal. We're not killing all of them.
>>
>>25463721
In other words, it's time to turtle up and shore up our defenses.
>>
>>25463695
Lets run a bluff like this.

Perhaps we could say something, and purposefully let it slip, that way if there's a leak, maybe they'll try to run, or at least seek outside help. When they do, we trace it, we've been attacked twice, we need to take an offensive.
>>
>>25463785
Not with our skeleton crew (hurr) of constructs.
>>
I had an idea.
While our soldiers are good at what they do they lack...imagination. So we cure this by making officers that have more capacity to think and make decisions based on the situation, but still have them dull enough that they won't rebel.
>>
>>25463754

It also boosts our offense. Don't want to go totally on the defense no. We should still build up info networks but slower and with the non traceable dominate.
>>
>>25463828
I said that

>>25463117
Here, and no one listened.

We need to play to our strengths, for once. We can't FAIL at fleshcrafting.
>>
>>25463754
Yeah, I'm in favour of this.

They're clearly afraid of moving against us openly, so let's make it impossible to fuck with us subtly and hope they do something very stupid.

Either that or this is how an extremely powerful vampire amuses themselves and they don't really care enough to actually kill us. Whichever it is, making Castlevania into a well guarded fortress is a good counter to their plans.

I agree with the officer part, but I think you're trying to spread the efforts a little thin here.

I say we want maybe 3-4 types of primary constructs that we can mass produce. So, hounds, tin soldiers, [X] and [Y]. [Y] can be the officer types, which should be significantly powerful on their own and work as a sort of overseer for the tin soldiers and whatever [X] is. The hounds don't need an overseer because they increase in tactical ability and intelligence when you group them together anyway.

Now, as far as ratios go, I'd say we should have about a half again as many tin soldiers as hounds, and maybe 1 overseer for every ten combined hounds and soldiers. I haven't really put any thought into what the other primary troop in our retinue would be, so I can't make any calls there. The hounds serve as excellent fast attackers and melee range skirmishers, while the tin soldiers are ranged defense types, given their lack of initiative. The overseers would be all round generalists, presumably.

The two ideas that immediately jump to mind are a mid range attacker with flight capabilities, and a heavily armoured melee soldier with minor ranged ability. Maybe just use both and spread them a little thinner than they otherwise would be? In retrospect, I am actually in support of using both.

Animated armors were suggested in the past.
>>
>>25464024

Honestly I like the toys. So I would go something like.

10-20 of them a squad lead by a heavy armored but intellect knight and we should make some magic based units to lead groups of the knights as well.

Hounds are the fast flip around and rip your heart out units. Get a few angels for the attack from above and we should have a good force. We might want to make a few more packs while we are at it.

Then once in a while we should make a few pilots for our air ships and depending on how well we can get it try and find some mages to retain the powers of and jack any magical knowledge they have that we lack.

Jesus, what a thread, sorry I missed it.

Did our Butler end up buying all those books on economics and political philosophy like we told him to last thread?

Why Sophia...what made her so dam special?

Also, how did she suddenly gain enough strength to fight us? I was thinking sleeper agent, but we basically randomly got her off the street and could have killed her at any time; if she was one, the person behind this plan relied a lot on luck
>>
>>25464469
Well, we still have her mind in that crystal Scarlet handed to us, so we can always fleshcraft her mind into a body, then we can mindcuddle all night long and find out the answers to your questtions
>>
>>25464775
No, we smashed it. Sophia is never coming back.
>>
>>25464811
oh,, I must have missed that, pity, imagine the punishment we could have heaped on her
