No sleep for you! It's VALKRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You first arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, and figh off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher.

You've decided that it's now time to move on to greener (or at least more profitable) pastures. You and the Demons left Albion for the besieged nation of Ustio.

Your first mission went well enough, routing a platoon of Imperial soldiers threatening the city of Valais' supply lines. Then you destroyed an Imperial superheavy artillery battery, taking pressure off the city's beleaguered defenders and giving them a chance to counterattack. You also took care of a personal mission for Qyburn, and in return, he's given you a new and powerful (if only experimental) weapon! You also captured an Imperial sniper who you convinced to join your cause.

Currently, you're taking some R&R ahead of a major operation, so you're enjoying what little free time you have. You've currently semi-kidnapped your adjutant because she needs a little less work and lot more FUN in her life.

"Let me go Caaaaaap!" Sam wails, pounding at your back uselessly. As you stroll out of the base towards the city.

"Not until you have some FUN. Honestly I don't get how you can spend so much time around paperwork without shooting yourself." You say. "Actually, we're not even in the army anymore. Why do we have so much paperwork?"

"Put me down and I'll tell you!"

"Ha ha, nice try, but I'm not falling for it."

So... where should you go?

"Hey, I know, lets go down the shore! I'm pretty sure I remember Freyberg mentioning that they had a pretty nice boardwalk here!" You say, turning westward."

"Can you just PLEEEAAAASE let me down?" Sam whimpers.

"Only if you promise not to run away." You say. "If you recall, I can run faster than you. MUCH faster."

"Okay!" Sam pouts as you finally put her back on her feet.

"Now behave." You smile.

Fortunately for you, the boardwalk seems to be open. With the Imperials pushed back, there's no longer any danger in congregating in large crowds, and a lot of people are eager to try and escape the stresses of the war. At least for a while.

And of course, it's a flurry of activity. There just seems to be so many things to do...

"Hey! Let's go on some of the ride, first!" You say happily.

"You're really creepy when you get all enthusiastic, you know that, Cap?" Sam shakes her head. "Fine. It's not like I wanted to go the carnival games or anything!"

So you go through the whole gauntlet of rides. You literally have to drag Sam to the rollercoaster, since she's apparently terrified of them, but you wryly note she's screaming with joy (and a bit of terror) just like any of the other riders.

Next is the merry go round. Now THIS one you were quite reluctant to be seen on, considering those were more like rides for kids, but seeing your weakness (or maybe she really did like merry go round a lot), Sam wraps her arm around yours and forcibly drags you on. Being a Lancer, she's hell of a lot stronger than she looks. Trying to save as much face as you can, you attempt to pick out the noblest looking creature you can find, befitting your noble status. The best you can find is a giraffe with a party hat. Sam meanwhile instantly bolts to the pinkest pony you have ever seen, it's colors nearly making you vomit from sheer disgust. So, there is the oddest image, of Sam riding a pink pony and having the time of her life, followed close by a very glum looking you straddling a giraffe with a party hate. You are left wondering how long this ride will last when you catch a glimpse of a skeletal figure that almost resembles Richter riding the zebra next to you. You turn to stare at him a bit awkwardly before he gives you a toothy smile.

"THE RIDE NEVER ENDS." He cackles before fading away.

Fortunately, the ride finally DOES end, and thanking the various gods that might exist, you slide off the giraffe with a party hat and shuffle toward the exit, trying to ignore the snickers of the other adult men around you.

"Hey, Cap! Having fun?" Sam says, her mood now much brighter from a combination of the rides and seeing your masculinity take a hit.

"Lots." You grin weakly.

"Actually, my family was pretty damn small for a noble lineage. My parents didn't have any other children, and most of my extended family marred off into other families." You sigh. "And then the invasion hit. The Imps rolled over our estate, and only me and a few servants managed to get out."

"Shit, that's terrible."

"Yeah, well, that's in the past." You shake your head, trying keep those memories out of your head. "Let's focus on the present. How's Matt been doing?"

"Oh yeah, he's doing fine...!" Sam says just a bit too quickly.

"No, it's not anything like that!" Sam yelps. "He's doing fine at school, he really is! He's even getting along with Artya really well! It's just that... you remember that whole thing with the civil war?"

"Yeah." You say with mounting suspicion.

"Well... the Lanseal cadets are apparently being pressed into service."

"Shit. How are things going?" You scowl. You never thought things could get that bad.

"He and the other classes have already gone through several battles. It's mostly light stuff, like ambushing patrols and countering pushes. Nothing exceedingly dangerous like the stuff we do!" Sam sighs. "But still, it's really worrying."

The problem is the PR. Hiring mercs to shoot your people tends to make people question things about your rule. GRA doesn't have to worry about that because they're fighting for freedom or some bullshit. I don't know really.

"Well, I'm sure if things get dicey Cordelia can just ask us to come fight for her."

"I dunno. It would look really bad for Cordelia to hire foreign mercenaries to shoot Gallians, and at this stage, she needs all the PR she can get. But..." Sam hands you a letter. "It seems the Gallian Resistance Army doesn't have the same qualms Cordelia does. They want to hire us.""

"I promise, Sam, once we're done here in Ustio, we're going back to Gallia right away." You say with all the determination you can muster. "I don't care if Cordelia wants our help or not, and I don't care if we get paid for it or not. If somebody threatens one of our own, we make them pay."

"Thanks, Cap." Sam smiles. "That really means a lot to me."

"Besides, he's got Artya with her. She'd probably stab any son of a bitch that tries to mess with him."

"Yeah, she probably would." Sam giggles.

Finally, the Ferris wheel grinds to a halt, and you find yourself at the very top of the wheel.

"Well, would you look at that."

"Whoa..." Sam's eyes widen in amazement.

True to the boast ,Valais really does look amazing from the sky. Countless lights peppering the ground, illuminating the mountains around it and reflecting off the sea. In the ocean, you can see the mighty Federation battlefleet holding position off shore, ready to lend their firepower to anything that needs it.

Now, this was a ride you didn't want to end.

But unfortunately, it eventually does, and the grinding of gears signifies the ride moving again. Getting off, you and Sam get some dinner in the form of cheap and unhealthy hot dogs and cotton candy.

"So.. what are we doing next?" Sam asks, biting off a chunk of cotton candy.

I find the racism pretty much accurately reflects the anti-semitic racism that Jews faced in pre war and during world war 2.

It was atrociously casual and constant.

>>25479185
It's Jagar. I think his luck would suck at this kind of stuff.
>>
>>25479122
Actually it's not as bad in Gallia compared to the empire, though there's still a negative sentiment there but most people don't really have it.

>>25479179
It was a clever thing captializing off of that, though out of the family running the GRA, it's mainly the kids that more likely believe in it than the father (to him it's more a useful thing in his plans)

"Sir, Sir! What do you say to the fact you've Albionese, Darceans, and even Imperials in your armed force?"
"Undying loyalty is something The Sturmfuhrer family has pressed into their soldiers for Generations! Never will you find a more professional group of soldiers!"

>>
>>25479188
They rewrote history so that the Valkyrians were peaceful people who went to Gallia to tame the "wild, violent, and barbaric" Darcsens and blaming them for the Barious Desert created by the "Darcsen Calamity".
>>
>>25479244
Honestly I think we should just buzzbomb their HQ and be done with it.
>>
>>25479265
In reality the Valkyrians were violent invaders who used ragnite weapons (WMDs) to conquer the Darcsens. One Darcsen tribe made a deal with the Valkyrur to join the Valkyrians. When the war was over, the Darcsen tribe became the Randgriz royal family and the Darcsen race was blamed for everything.
>>
>>25479281
As I said earlier, we send them a 'gift'. A weapon that can end the war. And all they have to do is give us the coordinates of their castle.
>>
>>25479244
The problem is two fold. Us attacking someone without a contract will look very bad for us. It makes look like nothing but a bunch of thugs and raiders. Which leads into the second issue. The massive PR hit that Cordelia will take if we do that. You can win all the battles you want but you lose your people by making bad decisions or having no ability to stop people from doing whatever they want. You'll lose the war in the end or set yourself up for another round.
>>
>>25479281
well, that and sabotaging their deployment capabilities.
>>
>>25479314
Or we could not have that PR nightmare and just scout out their castle and call it in
>>
>>25479314
They should have multiple bases arround the south of Gallia just in case of attack on their main base. So it'll probably hurt morale.
>>
>>25479281

Got to find it first and afterwards the remainders will be calling us terrorists for bombing a place with innocents. That they claim was there.

I think when we return we should move very carefully just so something like that doesn't happen.
>>
>>25479103
"Hey, let's go try some of those carnival games." You say.

"Really?!" Sam's face lights up like a searchlight.

"I thought you said you didn't want to play those." You note wryly.

"Well, uh," Sam thinks for a second. "Dunk tank!"

"Uh, well, okay." You say.

"With you as the target."

"Goddamnit."

After a bit of sweet talking with the boothrunner, Sam manages to convince him to let you sit over the tank. With great reluctance you sit on the little seat suspended over the water tank, swapping places with a very tired looking carnival worker wearing a parody of an Imperial officer's uniform.

"Good luck, man." He says as he passes.

"Thanks." You grumble as you take a seat.

Outside, Sam, with an evil grin on her face, winds up as she prepares to toss the ball.

Sam's second shot is even worse than her first, going too high, bouncing off a wall, and then coming back down straight on her head.

"Agh!" She curses as you laugh heartily.

"Nice shooting there, Sam."

"I still got one more shot!" She says angrily.

She winds up and lets off another throw. Unfortunately for you, this one is on target

"Son of a bi-" You manage to say before falling into the ice cold water. "GAAAAHH!!!"

Sam is now in stitches seeing you in so much discomfort.

"You're right, Cap. I should try out more of this FUN stuff you're talking about!"

"Ha, ha." You say, pulling yourself out of the tank. At least the booth runner is nice enough to provide you with at towel.

"Oh! Rifle shooting next!"

"Hey, give me a second to dry off here!"

You follow Sam through the crowd to the rifle shooting booth. You are acutely aware of a hastily nailed on sign on the top, with the words "NO SNIPERS ALLOWED" crudely written on.

"Huh." You wonder to yourself if it has anything to do with a certain sniper pair before Sam interrupts your thoughts. "Come on, Cap!"

The both of you arrive at the booth, and the booth runner takes a look at your military uniforms and gives you two the stink eye.

"Shit, where did all the time go?" Sam gasps.

It was also the first hint that Gallians are completely defenseless when it comes to air warfare. They got that zeppelin from the Feds, which means the rest of the world is quite far along in terms of aircraft. It's still a mystery why the Empire didn't use planes during the invasion -- doctrine, probably.

This factors quite a bit in the Valkyria Chronicles Quest I've been planning that happens after the Civil War.

That and at the time I doubt there was all that much air stuff. And if your tanks and ground forces were the best around, why use planes?

Sam goes first, lifting the mallet high over her head and slamming down. However, she apparently isn't in tip top condition, as the ringer doesn't even come close to the bell.

"Aw man." Sam groans.

"Here, let me try." You say, taking your turn and slamming the pad with your mallet. This time, the ringer shoots up and hits the bell, giving a resounding ring.

"Congratulations!" The booth runner says, stringing a medal around your neck. "Thank you for playing!"

You pick up the medal and read it, the words saying "I'M THE STRONGEST."

The BAR... so sexy and yet so fucking heavy. And the marines want to use a BAR 2.0 from what I've heard.
>>
>>25481527
Calling the IAR a "BAR 2.0" is rather disingenuous. It's more like an American RPK, really.
Also it's mostly higher ups who want it, most real Marines don't much like the idea.

I don't really understand why the higher ups would want it. Doesn't the M249--or M2420, I forget which--fill in the automatic rifleman position of the Marine fireteam well already?
>>
>>25481545
>Calling the IAR a "BAR 2.0" is rather disingenuous.
Maybe, but they are going from a belt-feed system to a magazine one lowering the overall firepower output for their squads. And also, it's always the higher ups. Always mucking about.
>>
>>25481527
The IAR is a piece of shit, for the exact same reason the BAR was. Yes, it is a nice firearm, but it doesn't serve the role of a SAW very well. The limited magazine size is terrible for when you need to use it for suppression. While yes, it is lighter, I'd prefer something that's actually useful.
>>
>>25481594
It's like if 4 different guns had sex with each other and made this baby. Rifle stock of a Garand, M1919 aircraft machine gun with double fire-rate, welded box mag on the side, sights and bipod of a BAR, and a custom trigger.
>>
>>25481393
It might have been the first fixed-wing aircraft to fly, but once word got out, development would explode when nations with actual money get involved. The really intriguing thought is that ragnoline has a power-to-weight ratio that exceeds that of jet fuel. Speaking of ragnoline, the planes in Valkyria Chronicles universe are scary to think about in concept. Ragnoline-powered engines would completely transform the design of planes. And I don't even want to THINK about what would happen with jets.

Are you a bad enough dude to be Gallia's Chuck Yeager?
>>

"Hey Sam, you can have it." You say, putting the medal over Sam's neck.

"What? Why?" She asks, surprised.

"Well, I just sorta figured, with all the work you do, you pretty much figuratively carry the Demons on your shoulders, and that's pretty damn strong in my book."

Sam blinks at your words, but then smiles and gives you a big bear hug.

"Thanks Cap."

As you and Sam walk to the exit, you see her take the medal off and string it around Voytek's neck. You just smile and shake your head.

"Sir! Excuse me, sir!" You hear a voice behind you. You turn to see a costumed man with a camera approaching you."

"Yes?"

And now you've just realized you've gone out on yet another accidental date with one of your squadmates. Something in your mind breaks and you can't seem to come up with anything to say.

"Um... sir?" The photographer asks, a bit confused at your lack of response.

"Uh, sure!" Sam laughs awkwardly, pulling you close and holding Voytek between you two.

"Say cheese!" The photographer says and there's a brief flash. The photo then prints out on an odd little Qyburnish looking contraption underneath the camera.

"You you go." Sam says, handing him a bill and taking the picture. You're still in a bit of mental shock and Sam leads you away.

Interestingly enough, I think it looks like more meta-complaints showed up than actual complaints?

Nobody really yelled and bitched at each other that we should do this or that.

Actually, even the "Begun, the Waifu Wars have..." and "Samefag!" posts weren't very vitriolic -- mostly they just sounded tired and glum.

Really guys. You're kinda just convincing yourself into a gloomy mood by sheer willpower and repetition...
>>
>>25482791

>>
>>25482820

>>
>>25482820
Pretty much, and it seemed we were all mostly in agreement that Jager just isn't up for something like that at the moment.

It's more the aftermath I'm worried about, but with things kind of staying the same we won't be seeing too much in the next threads.
>>
>>25482820
I think everyone's to tired to be angry and argue.
>>
>>25482820

>>25482867

I dunno, it kinda felt more like people were just, y'know... mistaken. They expected a shit-storm, but people turned out to be too polite or too tired or too agreeable, but some people still started to meta-complain to convince themselves that everybody's argumentative and explosive or something.

i.e. Nothing happened so people started convincing themselves that something happened.

And that's a shitstorm that should happen, anyhow.
>>
>>25482881
Yeah, that'll be rough.
Because, its, hmmm. i dont know how to explain it. I want Karla to Beg, plead for forgiveness, but even then, i dont know where to go after. Death, redemption, its a deep deep feel.

I can only imagine, if Jager were to write his wedding vows, and read them aloud in a meeting with Karla, on the battlefield, as though he was asking for her surrender. He would read it as though he was in a church, surrounded by friends and family, the battlefield gone around him, lost either in his own psychosis, or pulling out the big guns to make her break.

Isolde? Seems nice, she fought for rights of wartime captives, and got hit by the imperial cockslap and suffered. We've seen that the Knights of Belka didnt like it, didnt support it, but it was the lickboot positions. She'll find a match if she wants, she's a big girl. She probably expects a noble in her life, and we could nudge her along toward a Galian one, for kicks, even nudge her towards matt, though there's the Artya people supporting her, and yadda yadda. It's all a crazy thing with plenty of anons going about in sleep deprived ramblings, myself included, because of this quest.
>>
>>25482410
"Sorry Sam, but this is some really heavy shit. I can't even begin to answer that." You sigh, looking up at the endless night sky. "I'm still dealing with the mess between me and Karla, and I don't think I'll be ready for a relationship until well after that mess is sorted out, hell, I still have nightmares and dreams about her."

"Yeah, I understand." Sam nods sadly, but then puts up a slightly forced smile. "Well, until that time comes, I guess I can still be your responsible adjutant! Which, by the way, reminds me that there's still damn paperwork to finish."

With that, she kisses you on the cheek and skips off with Voytek. You can almost see the little stuffed bear waving at you, as if he pities your situation. Damn bear.

Well, you got a mission tomorrow, so you decide to get some sleep. Shit, this weekend was supposed to be for R&R, so why the hell are you so tired?

Nothing makes sense any more.

Actually, how the hell does somebody even KNOW if there's same-fagging?

I just assumed that it simply means that, much like a thread will have several times more *views* than *posts*, that not everyone who follows a quest votes at every choice. And that sometimes a choice comes up that galvanizes many people to action.

>>25482928

I dunno, I think at best it was just my slightly twisty and repetitive phrasing that makes it seem that way?

I mean, it basically comes down to "What people expected didn't happen, but that's not going to stop them from changing their mind."

To be honest, I kinda wanted to set up some dramatic meeting with Karla...

... and then just not show up.

No ambush or distraction or anything.

We just don't show up. Take it as a sign of "it's over" or "I don't give a shit" or just "meh I don't care", whichever, whatever. I'd bet that'd sting, though.
>>
>>25483173
Karla knew them too, as well as most likely being pressured into it by the empire to keep Belka free from retribution, you can't heap the blame at her feet, sure, some very angry feels can be directed her way, but if you treat her like the one responsible, that won't stop it happening to other people.

Give Karla the chance for redemption, to take back her country and never be a lacky of the empire forced to commit similar atrocities, and I reckon she would jump at it.
>>
>>25483179
but before we do that, punch a message into that knight we're about to face, and send him back to her. Specifically: "The wedding's still on, bitch!"
>>

She, feels that regret, we know it weighs on her. I couldn'tbring myself to do it, but, i cannot be the one to tell her 'i still love you' Without hearing it from her first. Not until i see the tears running from her face, where she breaks that commander of the knights of belka form, and show that she's sorry, that she still cares.

I need to hear it, before i say 'I Do.' Just stare into her eyes, dead set, after saying 'Do you take this woman, to be your wife, to have and to hold, as long as you shall live?' To nothing but silence, unless i hear something, see something...

>What proof do you have exactly?
Of what? of Karla knowing them? She lived with Jager, of going for redemption? Its pretty clear that she wants Belka to be free of the empires shackles and become an honourable sovereign state.

I don't understand what you're trying to argue.
>>
>>25483258

I dunno. He's motivated by vengeance in part, and I think a stunt like this would rate as quite a "Fuck You!" and probably HURT her.

>>25483270

Not against some sort of resolution.

Just that, at some point, we make her think we want a heart-to-heart and then stand her up as an insult.
>>
>>25483237

it was all but explicitly stated, during our talk with her in the first thread, and what we've learned from playing as Eric. its pretty damn clear she is not the one to heap the blame on, and those that keep doing so have way too much of a murderboner
>>
>>25483308
Her intentions behind the attack it's hard to argue that she was forced to do it considering Jager's family wasn't the most prominment family in Gallia (now? it might be different)

Doesn't mean that she should be magically forgiven without a good explaination if at all as she killed some if not the rest of Jager's family.

Uuuuugh, how much you want to bet there's some sort of hidden Imperial chemical weapons lab using human 'see: Darcean' testing to test their weapons, hidden in Belka? Soon as Erik hears rumors of Darcean's going missing...
>>
>>25483382
>Her intentions behind the attack

What part of the emperor ordered her to do it makes you think it was her intentions?

also
>she killed some if not the rest of Jager's family.
She let the attack, but did none of the fighting as we were having our -talk- with her, the imps under her command did the fighting
>>
>>25483382
>Again speculation.
again you completely forget past events in this quest, seriosuly, go back and read through the archives, you're making yourself look like an idiot

Why do people think their going to be some great uprising with Karla and Belka? I mean really... she could have said fuck it when orders came down to kill Jagar and yet didn't. She could have started right then and there but went with the whole 'my oath is more important' bullshit.
>>
>>25483381
Don't accuse me, I don't have a murderboner for her, I just don't think what she did could be forgiven as if it never happened. Even if they part on pleasant terms, I don't think either of them could ever forget this and if they were to get into a relationship, it would gnaw at them.

>>
>>25483443
Because at the time the Empire was steamrolling everything in its path and it looked like nothing could stop it?

So rising up would accomplish fuck-all besides getting her killed since even her own people wouldn't support it.

So Karla's unit was responcible for the deaths of Lord Sturmfuhrer and Lady Sturmfuhrer, as well as much of the house guard and servants. It has been said by Jager that He, and some servants, escaped alive.

The remains of the estate still are Jager's property at least, in a completely unknown state of repair/disrepair.

pretty much >>25483472

a hell of alot has changed for the worse in the empires favor, and all while the seeds of discontent and rebellion are slowly sown in the Belkan camp, it is not something that happens overnight, but is something slowly being worked upon
>>
>>25483472
And how do you know her people wouldn't support it? It seems her knight are pretty damn loyal to her and not really the idea of the Imps.
>>
>>25483470
that's the stance Karla fans seem to be taking as they seem to overlooking the sheer gravity of what she's done. There's not much in the way of betrayals worse than attacking/killing your own family.
>>
>>25483527
Maybe Karla is trying to consolidate forces and resources to declare independence form the Empire.
>>
Since we're doing Lanseal today, are we doing a character thread on Wednesday?
>>
>>25483491
>So Karla's unit
I'm betting that it was not even her unit, seeing as it was Imps we fought in the first thread, I'm pretty sure that a Belkan commander, if leading a Belkan attack, would bring Belkan troops. To me it seems as though the Emperor forced her into it, to lead a unit that would have no qualms about slaughtering innocents, something no honourable Belkan would never do.

>Merc says he has something in mind for it.

>>
>>25483547

>>
>>25483532
I'm a Karla fan, and I'm not overlooking it, but merely looking at it compared to the reason behind the scenes that could have caused it, and until we find evidence lending credence to either side of the argument, anyone vehemently stating any argument as fact is mentally challenged.
>>
>>25483527
Because the worst time to try to start anything against the people in power is when you're winning a war.

She's also not the only one with power in her country, there are obviously Imperial supporters since we've seen them.

If she really wanted a successful breakaway, you need a reason, IE the Empire is getting it's ass kicked, as well as motivation and support.
>>
>>25483564
I said that generally in terms, she was in command, or was simply there.

We know that at least ONE of the imperial troops involved in the Albion debacle was part of the unit that attacked our estate, as they managed to interrogate that out of him. (i missed the thread and wanted to ask more about it)
>>
>>25483584
>At the cost of everything else
at the cost of what? we literally know nothing about her plans and what she has going on behind the scenes, only hints of what Eric has been told.

I said it several threads ago, and people seem to have forgotten, we know literally nothing of what is happening on her side of things, and people should withhold making fools of themselves by arguing otherwise at this point.

When we find out more, please, be my guest and argue/discuss to you hearts content, but right now? Its just shitting up the thread with unbased speculation.

You are MATTHEW WELLINGS, a Lanseal student and a part of Class Z.

Over the past couple of months, in addition to classes, you've been pressed into service to help Gallia fight off separatist forces calling themselves the Gallian Resistance Army. They claim to fight to free Gallia from the tyranny of the Archduchess and drive out Darcsen Menace, but in reality they're just a bunch of thugs. Even worse, they were all from Southern Gallia, which was the place that took the least amount of punishment from the invasion. Ungrateful bastards.

Anyways, you've already done several operations, but they were small scale, usually just intercepting Imperial patrols and supply convoys. You and Mac even "earned" nicknames by now. Mac go "Baseplate", since he was always getting stepped on by everybody, and you got "Junior", due to you apparently taking after your father when he was younger.

Currently, your class has been put on protection detail for a VIP codenamed Raptor. Actually, you're more like providing overwatch for the actual protection detail. You've taken positions along a ridgeline that overlooks the road where Raptor's convoy is due to cross.

"Hey, Matt."

"We're on mission, Baseplate." You hiss.

"Right." Mac sighs. "Junior, god it feels so weird calling you that. Anyways, you see them?"

"Yep. Just came into view. On APC, some trucks, and a light tank."

"Shit, a tank? Who the hell is this Raptor?"

"Hell if I know."

WHO ARE THE BODYGUARDS? Artya asks.

"Let's see..." You squint through your scope. You can see a few familiar faces, particularly a red haired individual. "Ah, it's Class G. Poor bastards."

"Less chatter and more observing!" Price hisses at you.

"Sure thing, Bravo." You sigh and look through your scope, scanning the trees for potential threats. After all, it just takes one well placed lancer to make this a mission failure.

"Bravo, I got movement on the opposite ridge. Do we have any guys out there?" You ask.

"That far? No way." Price shakes his head. "We're spread thin enough as it is."

"You think it's any of the protection detail?"

"You did count how many guys were in the trucks, right? That's all of them down there."

"Well, I got movement up there. Nothing concrete, but something's definitely up there."

"Alright, all teams, get eyes on that ridge. Meltdown, that includes you. If there's any armor up there we'll need you to nail it."

"Yeah yeah." Ashely scoffs.

"I got visual!" Mac yells. "I see.... what the fuck!?"

Looking through your own scope, you can see a line of huge, armored figures all glowing blue and marching over the ridge towards the convoy. Class G below sees the oncoming force and dismounts.

However, before you or Class G can do anything, one of the armored figures lets off a massive blue beam of light, and the light tank explodes in a ball of fire.

"Shit! Hostiles in the open! Raptor's in danger!" Price barks. "Weapons free!"

Below, you can see Class G leading the APC holding Raptor deeper in the forest.

"Damnit!" Mac scowls. "Idiots! We can't cover them if we can't see them!"

"That means whatever the fuck those things are can't see them either." Price points out.

Unfortunately, the shot is too tough to make, even for you. You see your round ricochet off the armored car's front plate. Mac, however, does a bit better, and his round finds its mark, causing the armored car to veer off the road and crash into a ditch.

Ashley trundles forward in her tank destroyer, previously hiding in a hull down position, and takes a shot as well, turning the second armored car in line into a smoking crater.

Meanwhile, all along the ridge, sniper, lance, and automatic fire all lance out at the GRA convoy, You see two trucks and another armored car go up in flames. The troops in the last three trucks dismount and scatter to find cover while the last two armored cars veer off the road and start showering the ridge with machine gun fire.

You and Mac begin firing off shots at the infantry in rapid succession. You're not particularly interested in killing them. Suppressing them is good enough, and you both manage to down a couple of them. Artya takes several potshots as well and surprisingly enough, manages to nail one of the GRA soldiers with a headshot.

Meanwhile, Ashley charges her tank destroyer, the venerable War Pig, right into the pair of armored cars. They're fast enough to dodge out of the way, but their gunners make the mistake of focusing their MG fire on her, wasting it on the armor plating rather than on the Class Z students on the ridge. Ashely the manages to spin War Pig around and fire off a shot, blasting the rear wheels off one of the cars.

The other Class Z students hold their own, peppering the scattered GRA troops with gunfire and frag lances.

I just wish we knew what those rolls are representing. Is it the total of rolls? Each dice? If each dice represents someone then who? That shit has been bugging me this whole quest and I never get answers to it...
>>
>>25484712

Each dice is an attack I believe.

We're rolling 6 dice because we, altogether, get 6 attacks. Either because its a long turn, or because we're rolling for Matt AND Artya AND Mac with each of us getting 2 attacks in.

Some characters get multiple attacks -- stormtroopers might get 2 or even 3 shots in.

Snipers might only get 1, however.
>>
>>25484749
It just be nice to have Merc be clear about the dice and why some sets get used over others.
>>
>>25484692
>>25484712
It seems that each d20 roll is someone's attack. So that Artya noscope headshot was probably the 2nd d20, and that stunt Meltdown pulled was probably number 4, while our shot was likely D20 number 1, or 9, 9, 8
>>
>>25484712
>>25484749
I actually messed up on the number of dice that were supposed to be rolled. Normally they're individual attacks and I take the most successes, but multiple crits work just as well.

"Bravo, it seems like things are going well here. Maybe we should try and link up with Class G." You say. "We haven't gotten anything from them since they entered the forest and Raptor is still our priority objective."

"You're right." Price nods. "Everybody, Team 1 and Team 7 are breaking off to link up with Class G. Gaz, you're in command here. Keep those reinforcements suppressed! Meltdown, you stay here in case the GRA sends any more armor down the road!"

"Roger!" You hear Gaz and Meltdown say in unison.

"Alright, let's move!" Price yells at you and your team.

Artya and Price take lead, with Soap and Nikolai close behind while you and Mac take the rear. Price and Soap are both scouts and carry rifles, while Nikolia is a shocktrooper, but he carries a beast of an MG. You're not sure where he got it, but you can see areas that were clearly Imperial insignias and logos that were chipped or filed off.

Artya then motions for you to stop.

"We got five hostiles. One APC, and four of those armored freaks." Price whispers to you. "Just on the other side of those trees. Looks like they were set up here to cut off any possible retreat."

"What the hell is that glowy shit?" Soap asks, pointing at the masts jutting out of the APC crackling with blue energy.

"No idea, but it can't be good." You mutter. "It's like the stories of the Valkyria during the war. Those bright blue flames..."

"That's nice and all but we need a plan of attack." Price says.

Both you and Mac are on target. You manage to hit one figure in the slit between his helmet and neckguard, while Mac shoots another through the eye. Take him intact
>>
>>25485197
>That's far less than him getting a lucky shot off, and taking out 2-3 people.

You're putting the risk onto the future, is my point.

We've only got 1 guy to deal with, and we're on uncertain ground, but he's also possibly depowered somewhat.

People in the future, however, will also be facing these guys... and they might not get the opportunity to take them alive like we did.

>>25485218
A real threat still, but also a reward. Plus, his threat is less than that of FOUR soldiers at full power or whatever.

>I'm going off of in game info, or have you not even read up on the game?

>There's people that haven't played any of the games here. Just saying.

Yeah.
>>
>>25485251
Yes, he is most likely weaker than 4 soldiers. However, we don't want him to kill any of our soldiers. That is not something you ever want to risk.
>>
>>25485218

Also, we went for capturing Karla, and the submarine, and the sniper.

It was a different sort of risk we took, but we also did get into a fistfight with that Knight.

Nikolai fires off a short burst of fire at the last armored figure. It instinctively raises its shield to block the shots, but you notice its movements are much slower, like its armor isn't moving the way it wants to. Even its energy weapon doesn't seem to charge nearly as fast anymore.

Regardless, a well place rifle shot to the hand forces the figure to drop its weapon.

It's at that moment Artya, Price, and Soap leap onto it from behind.

Despite being weighed down by its armor, the armored figure puts up a serious fight, knocking Artya and Soap off, but Price manages to hang on. He manages to tear off the figure's helmet, revealing that it was human... or at least something close to it. The man underneath is a deathly pale, with exposed veins and sunken eyes.

"Well aren't you an ugly fucker." Price says before smashing the thing's face in with a well aimed pistol whip.

"Class Z, this is Command." You hear Novak's voice over the radio. "Class G has successfully disengaged from the combat zone with Raptor. Mission Accomplished. Fall back."

"Command, we've got a dinner guest with some luggage over here. We're going to need a ride."

"Copy that, Bravo. I'm rerouting the trucks to your location."

"Huh, I wonder who Raptor was." You say, eying the downed human weapons. "I mean, who would warrant this much trouble to try and kill?"

"Maybe the Archduchess?" Mac suggest.

"No way." Soap laughs. "What the hell would she be doing all the way down here? Half the South wants her dead or worse!"

I JUST HOPE CLASS G IS OKAY. ONE OF MY FRIENDS IS IN THAT CLASS

"Don't worry, Stalker, I'm sure they're fine." You say.

"Right well, come on. Let's get this gear off their bodies and sorted. We've got a lot of work to do after we get back to Lanseal." Price says.

>And that's it for tonight! Come back on Wednsday night, 6-7pm PST!

Wow. Yeah.

After that bit of shit-stirring in Predator Quest, our own quest is getting downvoted like shit. Ugh.

Well, I'm going to go Up-vote Predator Quest just to spite the troll now.

probably, I find it hard to believe that there can be more than 1 person who is such an embittered faggot who would take the effort to troll that poorly so hard

VMQ is now into the purple range. Maybe the Predator Quest guys rallied for us, too. If so, let's Upvote their quest too anyway.

Hi guys:

Sorry for the drama.

I have already dispatched a mail to suptg asking them to not only correct the mis-archival of my thread, but restore the downvotes to yours.

With luck, we'll sort it out, but for what it's worth, I upvoted you.

Sorry for the drama.

hrm, it would seem that this same dickbag tried something very similar in a recent Hollow quest thread, saying that people in the VMQ IRC (which is totally non existent) were saying to downvote other quests to gain better visibility.

To this particular troll, I can only say this, Fuck you.
>>
We'd best be vigilant, the asshat can always try and stir some shit up at a later date.

thats the post in question, now we know of this dickbags existence, we shall be every vigilant
>>
>>25485696
>Maybe... just maybe. That's what he wanted all along!

Kinda doubt that -- especially if the troll was the one who personally gave VMQ downvotes, too.

Because, I mean...
>Predator Quest gets mis-archived, VMQ blamed.
>Valkyrian Mercs Quest gets downvoted.
>VMQ posters are outraged and retaliate...

It could've gone into a death-spiral easily.

>>25485729
>hrm, it would seem that this same dickbag tried something very similar in a recent Hollow quest thread, saying that people in the VMQ IRC (which is totally non existent) were saying to downvote other quests to gain better visibility.

Haha oh wow, really?

Yeah in that case I don't think he was trying to be helpful at all.
>>
>>25485748
Well, at least those anons at Hollow Quest caught on to it. Still, that's pretty worrying if he's going to try and continue that.

>>25485769
Note!

Pure joke man. But yeah with >>25485729 Hopefully we can catch this stuff as it happens like this time over at PredQuest.
>>
>>25485729

Holy shit, I didn't even know until I read that post.
>>
>>25485736
If they're incapable of a router reset, drawing attention to these actions may lead to them being barred from archiving on suptg due to them handing their IP to the suptg archives.

Maybe.
>>
>>25485729

Actually, if anyone here plays that Hollow Quest can you please inform them that none of this was our doing?

Because seriously, this shit. Merc deserves better than this.
>>
>>25485809
someone should post it in the next thread, just to make them aware of the troll so they don't get caught out
>>
>>25485799

Would it be possible to inform a moderator here so we could ban him?

Because fuck this guy.
>>
>>25485809
>Merc deserves better than this.

No quest deserves to be sabotaged by one individual trying to cause drama.

>>25485823
You could *try*, but I doubt much would result from it. Moot has an email and usually attempts to respond to it.
>>
Just send moot an email if you want, it can't hurt. He always gets around to reading them. (eventually)
