You are TK-392, a Storm trooper in the Imperial army. Ever since you landed on this rock things have never gone your way. You've almost died on two separate occasions, the last one leaving you the only surviving member of Beta squad. You've since healed from your grievous wounds and have mourned the loss of your fellow squad mates and commanding officer, but not before getting promoted into the vindicated Alpha squad.

Last night seems like a blur; the bar, the young Imperial cadets abusing the Twi-lek, the look on her face a haunting memory as you struck your hand across it, the dead cadet staring up at you blankly with lifeless eyes….
The dream is too much for you and you wake up in a cold sweat and are greeted with an ear-splitting headache. Your eyes squint in their over- sensitive state, trying to block out the cold mechanical lights shining above your head. You slowly get up off of the floor and assess your surroundings; to your amazement you're back in your bunk room. The clothes you wore last night are wildly strewn around your room, but apart from that everything else remains untouched. You try to assess your situation as last nights events slowly creep back into the front of your mind; you killed a fellow soldier. The gravity of that thought sobers you up better than any medicine, you're awake almost immediately. You stop yourself from panicking when you realize something doesn't make sense. You're back in your room, safe and sound with not so much as an angry letter slid under your door. Nobody's come for you and it's almost mid-day; briefings for Alpha squad's next assignment were set sometime around mid-day but in your hung over state you forgot the exact time.

A.Scramble to put your armor on and make a dash to the briefing
B.Calmly hide your clothes, put on your armor, and walk out like nothing’s happened.
C.Hole up in your bunk with your gun pointed at the door; you just know they’re waiting for you outside.

>B.Calmly hide your clothes, put on your armor, and walk out like nothing’s happened.
We gotta get this shit under control. Maybe Alpha Squad's already covering for us. But our ass is theirs now if that's the case.

Fuck, man, if we get court-martialed, self-defense ain't gonna fly, since we're the one that started that fight. We should be facing a firing squad or a hanging for this, if we're lucky, or sentenced to hard labor in a cortosis mine if not.
And whoever saved us from that, basically owns us now.

Which part, the killing a fellow trooper in a drunken rage, or being sentenced to a hard labor camp which is as good as a death sentence?

The killing part mainly. Even though the Stormtrooper Corps are a separate military organization they still have their dark goings on in the ranks, same as the Sith.

B. Because nothing happened.

You decide to do the smart thing and act like nothing happened. You get up and begin hiding your clothes around the room, planning to throw them out or burn them later if needed. You see the DL-44 you took from the cadet's body last night and toss it in a drawer space under your bunk. You quickly put on your armor and arm yourself with your T-21, checking the massive weapon for faults and dirty parts ( thankfully there are none). You calmly stroll out of your bunk room and make your way to the briefing in the garage. You find comfort in the anonymity your armor gives you and that calms you down, some.

You enter the garage and look around for your squad, finding them at the far end already in their briefing. This sends a pang of fear through your chest and you pick up the pace.

" Aahh, 392, so glad you could join us." The commander says loudly, announcing your tardiness. The rest of the squad doesn't say anything; you can feel their stares through their helmets.

The commander walks over to you,

" Let's get some things straight here; the only reason a greenhorn like you got transferred here is because STC needed a good story to inspire the troops. Alpha Squad isn't for little boys who get lucky, I don't expect you to survive very long and as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing."

His eyes narrow

" Why were you late?"

Yes.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=stormtrooper+quest

>>25513071
We're a Stormtrooper that was pressganged into signing up because we picked the wrong pocket.
We got assigned here to this backwater planet on the Outer Rim straight out of boot.
We made some choices, we walked into a Rebel ambush, and failed some rolls. We got our entire squad killed, and failed to save our CO.
We got evacced, spent 2 weeks in a bacta tank, then got promoted to Alpha Squad because Command wanted a nice story rather than the truth of our incompetence and failure.
We then got drunk, got in a bar fight, and killed another trooper.
>>
>>25513115
It's majority ruling, I think. Has anyone got a link to the old threads?
>>
>>25513115
The rolls determine success of action, but majority votes determine the action taken.

So whether you meant it to be serious or not, your posted action DOES get counted.
>>
>>25513137
Cheers.

>>25513155
>>25513138
Right okay, I'll bear that in mind from now on. Sorry about that.
>>
>>25513137
In short:
>fail your squad and your CO
>get squad killed
>fail to save CO
>Command misinterprets events, get promoted
>have survivor's guilt, make more mistakes
>kill fellow trooper in stupid bar fight
>new squad knows we fucked up, and we're shit, and will kill us if we give them an excuse
For tone, mix Full Metal Jacket with Generation: Kill.

Also, failures have immense consequences. 1 failure is all it took for our CO to die, and it wasn't even a critfail.

It's just gritty war movie stuff.
And choices and rolls have consequences. Deadly consequences.

As one anon pointed out last thread, the DL-44 that got pointed at us is the Star Wars equivalent of a .44 Magnum; failing initiative likely would have killed us, putting us into a bacta tank for another week at best.
Failures are very terrifying because they have consequences that aren't just inconveniences but life-or-death results.

For all the new people: MEDKITS ARE NOT STANDARD ISSUE!
Medics are also not standard in a squad, and given the way that Alpha Squad is already treating us, even if they have a medic, they may leave us to die (they have a reputation for brutality and taking no prisoners).

If we had a medkit, we could have saved our CO.
If we had a medkit, we could have patched ourselves up instead of being near-dead when we were medevacced.
Medkits are something of an obsession for us.

" I've been floating in a tank for 3 weeks sir, I haven't found the time to get familiar with the layout of the base."

The commander gives you an " I know you're lying" look, but he accepts your answer.

" Understood, make sure it doesn't happen again or we'll leave without you, got it?"

" SIR, YES SIR" you snap to salute

" Was that to impress me?" He asks " You can impress me by not dying. Now sit down."

You obey and find a seat on a cargo crate next to he board the commander has placed various charts, topographical maps, and images of rebel insurgents.

Your new commander takes a deep breath

" As I was saying before the greenhorn stumbled his way in here, reports have just come in from our good Bothan friend who fed us the bad intel. We know where the Rebels are hiding and command wants a show. This isn't wetwork, STC wants fireworks and heads on stakes. We're going in hot."

" No sir, when do we leave."

He chuckles and puts on his helmet

" Right now."

Your squad packs itself into the cramped confines of a Delta-Class DX-9; a small but fast transport vessel used normally for the transportation of troops between star ships, but Alpha squad has found its speed to be perfect for surprise drops; swooping down on their enemies and gunning them down before they have time to react. The ship takes off and shoots its way out of the garage at full speed. The next few minutes are filled only with the sounds of you and your squad checking their weapons and armor. After some more silence your commander looks at his com-link and presses a button which starts a countdown display on your helmet visor.

30 seconds

" Rook you've got the big gun, you take point at the hot seat."

You get up and stand next to the door on the opposite side of the ship, the ominous red light shining across your armor.

15 seconds

You and your squad arm their weapons, the compartment is filled with the high pitched whirring of plasma and blaster bolts heating up to full charge.

5 seconds

You take one last deep breath and grip the rappel rope tightly. You heft your weapon into position; cushioning it between your arm and your side, ready to unleash the fury of the Empire.

> Rolled 20, the Dark Side is strong in you!

The light turns green and the bay door opens, the sudden gust of wind screeching around the compartment of the ship. There is a a large dome shaped facility about 40 feet below you, it looks like whoever is inside is still unaware of your presence. You make sure you have a firm grip on your rappel and jump out of the ship.

The feeling of free fall is exhilarating, the wind is rushing by your ears as you see the rusty, aged metal of the facility coming towards you fast. Suddenly a very large missile streaks by you, the smell of burnt plasma fills your nostrils and makes your eyes water. The missile shoots ahead and collides with the domed ceiling. The explosion is massive; a huge blue fireball shoots up directly towards you and sends large chunks of the aged building flying by you. You close your eyes as you are engulfed in the hot smoke as you pass through the massive hole the missile created. Your rappel provides little resistance as you land feet first on the upper deck of the facility; the loud clang of your boots impacting the metal signaling your presence to anyone in earshot. Keeping your mind focused despite the rush you look down and see about 20 Rebels working on out of date assault transports staring up at you, completely caught off guard.

You level your T-21 at the crowd of insurgents using the guard rail as a support and open up. Your heavy weapon showers the room in bright red light; cluster after cluster of blaster bolts sprays down on your unsuspecting victims; engulfing them in a spectacular show of dust and exploding body parts. By the time the rest of your squad touches down around you you've emptied your first clip and 20 dead rebels lay in a smoldering heap below you. Rus looks down at the carnage and chuckles

" Okay, now I'm impressed."

" We landed in their armory as planned, we'll have to move quickly since the whole base would have heard our little entrance. Rook, Tank and Viss are with me. Sharps, stay up here and cover us."

The four of you go down the stairs single file and make a bee-line to the main door into the rest of the facility at the back of the armory. Without warning the alarms start going off and you hear the mag-locks on the main door lock into place with a loud clanking noise.

" Damn" Rus exclaimed " Tank, you're up; cut the door. Rook you're behind him."

You follow Tank to the door and stand behind him as he sets a large demo charge on the center of the door along with 3 smaller charges on each of the mag-locks.

" Stand back" Tank says to you " This is gonna be loud."

You take cover behind him, remembering to re-load your weapon as he starts the timer.

" 5...4...3..2.."

The charges explode in a flash of blinding light; incinerating the mag locks on the door and ripping a gaping hole through the thick but aged metal.

You stand up and charge your way through the smoke and red-hot metal.

You burst through the smoke to meet whatever was waiting for you. You enter a long hallway with about 5 different corridors that split off in all directions. Before you can make out anything else you hear the noise of boots stomping towards you and you get ready. Since this is a more narrative style of game play I decided to use that metric because it's easy to understand and still makes the dice rolls challenging. As for the modifiers I keep them simple, take your weapon for instance; I rewarded the players from the last quest for choosing to have the T-21 upgraded by making it more powerful; you can kill anything you point it at even if it's a success or a critical success. If you had your standard issue blaster with you and rolled a 13 you wouldn't have killed them all and the fight would have lasted much longer.

This is verygood tier stuff, OP. Good job
>>
>>25515488

your choice of mechanics is horrendous
>>

Yeah, a 25% critical failure probability, and all things considered 50% chance of failure, is pretty damn challenging.

I'd like recommendations for better mechanics without making the game too crunchy; I want you guys to get immersed in the story; not the numbers.
>>
>>25515602
So only critical fails cause us to get shot? That's not so bad.
>>
>>25515602
Want a simple system? Bastardise DH
give us skills out of 100, must roll under skill value to succeed on d100
>>
>>25515639
It's a simple and ingenious system. We only need three or four skill. But it's OP's choice. Can we have an update soon?
>>
>>25515639
I agree with this, it makes the game more interesting. We could also gain skills as we play, meaning its more dynamic.
>>
>>25515602
I would suggest making modifications depending on the situation. Shooting the unarmed malcontent is much easier than shooting the armed rebel. Perhaps a lower or higher chance of failure depending on the challenge.

Example: You have to suppress 3 rebels over there. You have a heavy weapon, so it's easier to rapid fire and suppress. So instead of 1-10=failure, it becomes 1-8=failure.

The point is it depends on the situation.

>>25515459

You decide it would be best to go cover the medic; you don't want to experience the feeling of not having anyone or anything to save a squad mate again. You crouch behind him and tap his shoulder, signaling your presence behind him. Both of you engage the rebels for a few seconds, killing some of them but not enough to be effective as you're having a hard time with your large weapon in these confined spaces. Before you can pop out of your corner again one of the rebels lobs a grenade that lands right at the mouth of the corridor, directly between you and the medic.

You can use a system similar to what Predator Quest uses.
D20-based, rank actions as Easy, Easy-Medium, Medium, Medium-Hard, Hard, and Very Hard. DC's are 6, 7-9, 10-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-19.
Modifiers of -2 to +2 can be added to the d20 for things like having the right tool for the job, advantageous situations, and good planning and prepwork for +'s, and bad lighting, sub-par equipment, and injuries for -'s.

Those are good suggestions, but I think I'll stick with the system I'm using now since the majority of people who have been playing enjoy it, including me. As for the modifiers in the system >>25515747 is talking about I'll have to think about it; not for this game but I may decide on doing something like that for the next one. It would be an easier switch than changing the entire game mechanic after 4 rounds of play.

You're adrenaline surges; you won't let another squad member die, never again. You roll out of cover and grab the grenade while blue and green blaster bolts fly all around you. You throw the grenade with all your might and it soars across the corridor, landing right behind the rebel who threw it. The blaster fire stops and is replaced with the frightened screams of the rebels trying to get out of the grenade's range. The corridor erupts in a wall of fire and smoke, killing everyone and everything unlucky enough to be in range. Before you have the chance to savor your victory the rest of your squad runs by you

" Rook, there's too many of them! Fall back" you hear Rus say as he bolts down the corridor you just cleared. You run behind your squad until you come to another large door with a large security console next to it.

Rus quickly hooks up his com-link to the console and starts running an encryption program.

" Hold them back, I need a few minutes for this to work."

You and tank crouch on both sides of the corridor, readying yourselves for the coming horde.

What do you do?

Thinking fast, you take one of your own thermal detonators and toss it down the corridor just as the rebels on the other side of it give a deafening war cry and start running down the hallway. Their cries of bravery and valor quickly turn into those of fear and pain as the thermal detonator explodes and the first wave of them get engulfed in white hot plasma. The rebels who survived the blast start opening fire on your position, still running at you. You and Tank open fire on them, covering the entire hallway with your blaster fire. The lack of cover was giving you second thoughts a moment ago, but now seeing that the rebels have none either, you're more than happy to unload plenty of rounds they can run into. For a full minute this goes on; shooting every single rebel that comes down the corridor. Finally you hear Rus
s voice through your helmet,

" Door's open, go go go!"

You let Tank fall back first and take up position at the center of the corridor, backing up slowly while firing your weapon at the hip. Once you make it inside Rus closes the door and locks it.

You look around the room; it looks like the communications hub for the entire facility. Your feelings of relief are replaced with apprehension as you notice all the lights are off in the room, the only illumination coming from a large skylight above you. The rest of your squad must have shared the same feelings as all of them start slowly surveying the room with their guns pointed in front of them. Before you can ask Rus what to do next a loud crash comes from above you. You just have enough time to point your gun up and see a blurred shape fall down towards your squad at an amazingly fast rate of speed. It hits the ground and a giant shock wave sends you flying back several feet. You hit a wall hard and go down on your knees, winded. You look up and see a young woman standing in the center of the room.

" No weapons can help you now, Imperial scum." The woman says " This is where you die."

VUUUUUUM

A long green blade made of pure light emerges from her robes as you get up and, thinking of nothing else, pull your combat knife out of your side compartment.

It was exciting, I cheered when I saw those big rolls come out.

Though if you're going to have such a large window for failure and critical failure, there need's to be an equally larger window for critical success. Unless you're intentionally having this aimed at being a grim quest then by all means it's good as is.

A good recommendation is to attach to any post that requires rolls/responses a time window, i.e. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, for /tg/ in general 20 minutes seems to be enough for most anons to come to a consensus with discussion.

Also on the dice subject, put up some basic stats.

How well we blast.
How well we take getting blasted.
Fate points if any.
General combat skill level. I.e. any time you attempt something fancy in combat, from diving, rolling for cover, tackling someone.

Something that anons can see and judge for themselves. The situational mods you should always keep to yourself.
>>

The time period is good, I'll definitely add that for the next thread.
