A few minutes later, you're sitting on a couch across from Mr. and Mrs. Akiyama. It's supremely uncomfortable and, aside from the television going, absolutely silent. You smile politely over at them and they smile politely back at you. You sip at a glass of icewater while Yukari is upstairs readying her room.

Finally her father, hearing Yukari cleaning her room upstairs her father sighs. "It's so nice that Yukari's found a boyfriend-" He says almost triumphantly. He grins at you. "You're a good man, too! I can tell from your hair- you keep it short and neat. Good healthy sheen, too!"

Mrs. Akiyama leans back and sighs. "We thought she was just going to be in love with tanks for the rest of her life. Maybe we'll have grandchildren afterall." She stops and looks at you worried. "Not too soon, though!"

At this point you choke as you'd inhaled about half the glass at the sudden outburst of parental pride.

>"I'm sorry... I'm just her friend..."
>"I'm sorry, I'm just one of her team mates for senshado."

Your brain has completely shut down at this point. "Geh..." You say, flopping your mouth around like a fish. "Um... Uh..." Your mind can't even fathom a response to this situation. "Yukari... uh... I'm..." You're about a second and a half away from your brain doing a hard reboot when Yukari pokes her head down the stares.

"Alright! You can come up now!" You stand up stiffly and quickly- it takes you about three strides to get to the stares and up them, so desperate are you to extricate yourself from that situation. The last thing you see before they disappear are the two of them grinning at each other, seemingly a second away from high fives.

Your brain is back in working order by the time you make it to Yukari's room. "This is my room!" She says with a bow before sitting down on her bed.

It certainly is- literally everything about the room is tanks- dozens of models lining shelves along the walls. Other shelves lined with books- you recognize at least three different editions of Jane's Guide to Armored Vehicals- Where there aren't shelves there are posters for tanks, a map of Europe showing the battle lines circa sometime in World War II, and several posters of tanks.

Along the wall behind her bed are a row of replica tank shells ranging all the way up to a massive Russian 122mm HE round.

As you stare around her room, your eyes fall upon a very familiar DVD spine. "Is that Kelly's Heroes?!" You say, incredulous.

"Why dontcha knock it off with dem negative waves, Moriarty!" Yukari replies with surprisingly good English. "I got an A English because of that movie..." She says smiley at the poster of it on the door behind you. "Used to watch it every day while I did my homework- I could recite it line by line in English. Oddball was my favorite, he's great!"

You nod in agreement, still just taking in the room. "Are those real shells?"

Yukari shrugs. "Well, the 88mm is real, it's just had the powder and charge removed and replaced with sand. The rest of them are educational mock-ups. Oorai used them for training back before they got rid of the Senshado program. So the girls could see how much the shells weighed."

I'm kinda curious to see Blackjack's thoughts on what the best parts are (as filtered through our MC).

We can already see the tank collection. It's all over the walls. The previous post mentioned shelves full of models.

We're in the Yukari's room, we should at least be a good 16 year old and almost overstay her parents welcome.

Why don't we try and communicate in english with her? It could be a secret code, and something in common we share.

It's from "Gaijin Smash" (name later changed to "Gaijin Chronicles") a blog from a black guy who went to Japan to teach English as part of the JET program.
The kids liked to do two things to make him miserable.
They liked to try and grab his dick, to see if it's as big as the stereotype says.
And they liked to try and "Kancho" him. Kancho is a "game" Japanese kids play, where they put their hands together, fingers interlaced, except for the index fingers, which stick out, and try to jam them up your ass. Yes, this is a real thing.

The blog is actually quite entertaining.

The thought of Kelly's Heroes fills you with nostalgia. "Hey, want to watch Kelly's Heroes?" You volunteer. "It's been forever since I've seen it..." You're actually genuinely excited at this point, and the idea that it's after eight and it's a near-two hour movie doesn't even enter your brain.

"Sure!" She says cheerfully, hopping over to her computer to load the DVD in the tray. You make yourself relatively comfortable, leaning against the foot of her bed as she hits play from the menu. She darts around you and lays down to watch it.

The movie is as good as you remember it and you find yourself going line-for-line with Yukari whenever Oddball speaks- you're a bit closer, mainly because you're a native English speaker and not a sixteen-year-old Japanese schoolgirl. However, sometime around when Oddball and Moriarty are arguing about Tigers, ("To a New Yorker like you, a hero is some type of wierd sandwich, not some nut who takes on three Tigers...") you notice that Yukari hasn't chimed in. Craning your head backwards you notice that she's sound asleep, still in her school uniform.

You can't help but smile.

>Pull a blanket over her or something- she'll catch a chill
>She can give your jacket back tomorrow...
>Better just leave- it's pretty late already and practice is at six tomorrow...

SO no Yukari/Miho route?
>>
>>25525543
Sorry, my mistake, the *7.6km* long ship. I based the 5km figure off a half-remembered image, and found the actual figure when I looked said image up.
(This is, incidentally, an *utterly insane* figure for something that's depicted with the basic proportions of a regular sized aircraft carrier. No wonder the school ships were so expensive to run - Oorai is depicted as one of the smallest ships, but it must cost more to run than all of the US Navy Carrier Strike Groups put together.)

If it's not part of the plan, you have to make a separate plan for it.
>>
It's a chilly twenty minutes as you walk back to you and you grandfather's apartment without your jacket. Still, you smile to yourself as you walk through the dead of night on a seven-mile long city-ship. Yukari was really a nice girl, and you're happy that she's finally found a place and people she can be friends with- the world isn't kind to social outcasts and maybe you've made the world a bit better for her.

You'd managed to get out of the Yukari household without any more embarassing misreads by her parents, though when you'd tried to tell them you and Yukari were just friends and team mates they'd just winked and nodded at you.

The crew was gonna give you hell for it tomorrow, anyway. They'd figure out sooner or later that Yukari was just a friend and that there hadn't been some romantic rendevous. That or they'd get bored with it.

You shrug. That's life on a tank crew- no secrets and no mercy.
>>
>>25525625

Drooling over her while watching intently would be gross, so let's avoid that, shall we?

>>25525588

Nautical miles are generally only ever used for distances.

Measuremnts of physical objects or vehicles would be in convnetional miles.

..though, given international standards being what they are, they'd realistically be in in SI. So, kilometres.
