The story thus far: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Final%20Fantasy%20Quest

Current Party:
Cecil P. Mycroft III (You) - Red Mage

Party Inventory:
Potion

Magic Learned:
Cure, Antidota, Fire, Blizzard, Blind

The King of Erelund, or the nobleman from the Silk'n'String, stares at you with such anger in his eyes that your fingers reflexively tighten on the hilt of your sword.

"YOU," he bellows. "IS THIS THE WORK OF YOUR HAND?!"

Although the man was by no means feeble when you last saw him, now his hand trembles with such violence and his form teetered over his throne that it seems like his heart might explode in his chest. Before that happens, however, a voice speaks from behind you.

"Aye," replies a man of towering height, near seven foot tall. He wears full plate of a dark purple tint, dark mail beneath and a small purple mantle draped between his pauldrons. The components of his armour fit in a design resembling scales and his gauntlets are clawed. Yet the most note-worthy aspect of the man's garb is the helm. A great dragon's head, forged of castle steel, engulfed the man's skull. The jaw was missing, showing the man's hard chin and scarred lips. In place of eyes, the dragon had dark red gemstones set and beneath, the man wore a mask that hid his own. From behind the helm hung a ponytail, some nine inches long, a pale, moonlight white. He takes a step toward the king, his weapon smacking loudly on the marble. Too big to be called a simple pole arm, he holds the black coloured, three pronged glaive like a stalwart guard.

Your eyes are immediately drawn to the scene behind him. Half a score of men lay on the ground, unconscious or dead. The streaks of blood that lay over the floor make you think the latter, as do the flames still alight on the cloths of their capes. The same blood drips from two curved swords, two wide scimitars in the hands of a woman.

She stands tall, too, but a foot shorter than the glaive wielding giant. Her skin is the colour of copper, her body lean and athletic, but by no means without curve, a perfect hourglass. Loose, translucent cloth is clad to her legs, but above, only a cloth brazier keeps her modesty. Besides that, golden bangles cling to both ankles and wrists. She had something of a prominent nose, but full lips and almond shaped eyes of a near abyssal colour. She wears her dark red hair long, to the small of her back, in a single braid. From around her hip crawls a lizard, the size of a man's hand. There it glows, the colour of burning coals.

"I hope my dance pleased you, Your Grace," she bows low, mocking, before the king. However, she stands alert once more as the sounds of footsteps, heavy with armour, approach. A door to the back of the room, to the left of throne, bursts open. A full score of armoured knights, resplendent in gold armour and helms crested with a golden six-legged horse, barge through, armed with swords and halberds.

The salamander, as you now recognise it, begins to hiss, wisps of flame spitting from its scales. But the woman does not seem to feel the heat. But she bristles as she watches the oncoming storm of steel.

"Allow me," speaks another peaceful voice. A woman edges from behind the dragon-helmed warrior. A much less imposing figure than the other two, she barely stands at five feet. She had a round, sleep face with half-lidded eyes of a warm brown colour. Her outfit is as outlandish as the other two, a great, wide robe, as thick as duvets, the outer layer a soft, light blue, the inner a dark, rich green. On her head she wears a hat that resembles that of a sleeping gown, complete with a puffy white cotton ball at the end of the drooping point. From within her hat, long hair, the colour and same matted consistency of straw, hangs in two long clumps on either side of her face.

She raises a hand, pulling a heavy, crystal bell from her sleeves. You hear a hum of effort from behind her closed lips as she outstretches arm. A great 'GONG' resounds from it, seeming to echo through the structure of the room itself. The tremors cause the soliders to teeter. Then the floor shatters beneath their feet. Great, hard spikes of rock break through, as easily as if it's a sheet of ice. The men are scattered, all of them thrown back, pushed by a wave of jutting rocks and forced out the very door they came. All but one.

He wears gold like the rest, but a wide mantle of blue flows from behind him and instead of a helm, he wears a runed circlet of silver around his head of short golden hair.

"Ser Hellond!" He roars indignant at the glaiveman, unsheathing a long sword as he charges forth, directly at you. As easily as through air, he runs right through you, too. By the time you turn around to watch the unfolding events, the glaive has torn right through the man. Armour and cloth alike are cleaved right open, chunks of red dripping from the blades of the massive spear. The dragon-headed man raises the swordsman off the floor, holding his glaive by a single hand. Swinging the great shaft to the side, he flings the now lifeless body of the solder to the side of the room, where a sky too beautiful for the scene shines through the windows.

The small, round-faced woman turns slowly, causing hard earth to break through the floor in a circle around her, until the door they had come from is barred, too.

"There," she sighs, tired. "Now we will not be interrupted."

By this time, the king had no choice to collapse, seating on his throne, exhausted by his own fury, shock and fear.

<continued>
>>
>>25570333

"S... Ser Hellond Highwind... you are making a grave mistake...," he fumes. "Whatever reward the Velyaran whore has offered you, rest assured that the rewards of my wrath will leave a much greater impression. I am the kin of Odin, the First King! My blood is blessed by the Goddess of Harmony herself!"

"You are not so blessed as your daughter, Princess Ellaira," the other responded. At that, the old man's face turns from red to slate white.

"My... do not.. harm her."

"We only need -some- of her blood. Yours... we are free to spill as much as we want," intones the smaller of the two women, shrugging apathetically.

"We did not come here to kill you, however," reminded the tall man, clearly leader of the group.

"Then why do you show your face? You already have Ellaira, what purpose do you have to make yourself a known traitor to the crown?"

"I wanted you to know the face of your enemy, and what I represent," smoulders the glaiveman. "And a direct assault upon the throne room is a grand enough distraction."

Then, a great boom crashed through the room, echoing from elsewhere in the palace, the sounds of walls crumbling. Again, the king stood, this time resolute in horror.

"NO!"

<continued>
>>
>>25570442

(Cool trip, me.)
>>
>>25570442

Shortly after the king's desperate scream broke out, the windowed wall of throne room burst open. Brick and pillar spilled forth, crushing the body of the murdered soldier. A great, blue wyvern roared, causing the king to cringe and shrink, falling back onto his rear.

"My ladies," the Dragon Knight turns to his companions. "Our purpose awaits us."

He leads the two to the wyvern, the beast long, lean and stocky. His wings shrinking down, he kneels, revealing a saddle on his back, reins tied to one of the spines lining the back of his long neck. The Dancer climbs onto the saddle easily, but the Geomancer requires her leaders help. Soon, he, too, climbs. The wyvern rears up, standing tall and growling at the king.

"No, Gourant," the knight speaks, pulling the reins. "Up."

With no more delay, the wyvern beats his wide wings, lifting all three up and into the air. After a few more stabilizing beats, the great winged reptile turns and thrusts forward, cutting through the air as sharply as a hawk. Through the great, gaping hole of the wall, you watch as a host of airships, great hulking craft, bearing the six-legged horse of Erelund, fill the sky. Six follow a particularly great brute. From it hang several heavy chains and, harnessed by those chains, an obelisk of gemstone, a glittering, aqua-coloured crystal, is flown away from the castle.

The crystal, majestic even in its captivity, is the last image before your eyes before white ribbons of light dance before them once more, wrapping about you like a cocoon.

When they unravel, filthy water fills your nose and mouth, your hair floats before you, web-like white in the murky green of the water. One hand is wrapped about your sword handle, the other around a pearl-coloured orb, no longer glowing.

You no longer hear the thrashing of the axeman, but you realise you are back in the Bandit's Wood.
>>
(Sorry for the waiting, folks. Next time a uncontrollable scene is next in line, I'll write it in advance. But now it's time to play.)
>>
>>25570688

Surface from the water very carefully, look around for any potential enemies.
>>
>>25570756
I'm going with this and I'm relieved it was just a flashback.
>>
>>25570756

As you rise from the water, you slowly scan your eyes about your surroundings. The first thing you look to is the axeman, of course. But when you see him, your apprehension of the man all too understandably declines. He floats, face down in the water. His fingers are curled hard as diamonds about the axe, still, wroth even in death. Turning back to the hill, you see the dead spearman and the swordsman. He still writhes amongst the bluebells, his shrieks having died down to empty, sorrowful sobs. However, now the two atop the hill, the net enthusiast and the bowman, have disappeared.
>>
>>25570864
Get up there and look for signs of Elly.
>>
>>25570864
Shit, lets go see if Elly's up top dead, perhaps the bandits took her, and would rather have her alive to torture. If they have a black mage there's a small chance they also have a white mage/ or at least someone who can cast a couple cure spells.

Also, lets see if we can make that birdcall, the one Ryara did, we may be able to get her attention assuming she's still alive and in the area, we have no idea how long has passed. It could have been a few minutes, to several days.
>>
>>25570970
Hurr, I just realized the swordsman is still alive from when we burned him. Lets ask him a few questions, if he's coherent at all, off a potion in exchange for his information. Does he know if Elly is alive, or at least if they took her body with them, has anyone else shown up looking for us. Where is the Bandit Camp?
>>
>>25570995
Check on Elly first, then question that guy
>>
>>25570864
Damnit Sage, my Rise of the runelords game starts in 45 minutes, why you gotta make me choose between 2 interests.

>>25570995
This seems like a good idea, obviously we've only been away for anywhere between 5 minutes and maybe half an hour, not sure how badly that swordsman was wounded, but he hasn't moved so he can't be in good shape.
>>
>>25570995
No, he's not the one bleeding out.
Check on Elly first, then we'll question the guy.
>>
>>25571035
This, then >>25570995

Seems like a good course of action, I also like trying the birdcall if we even have a clue how to do it at all, at least we know what it sounds like.
>>
>>25570948

As your waterlogged hat and cloak float along the top of the pond, you swim and wade to the bank and begin to climb the hill of bluebells. Wary, you pass the squirming swordsman. It seems as though he barely notices you on your way up, cradling an arm that is raw red with seeping sores and no intact skin to speak of.

>>25570970

You whistle on the way up, loud as you can, in an attempt to mimic the bird call Ryara taught you. However, it's simply not effective, nor loud enough, without the holed shell she blew through.

You reach the top of the hill and immediately see Elly, lying on her side, her body outstretched as if to make her way for the rim of the hill. It's difficult not to notice the red gash open across her throat, her blood mixed with the mud to make a rust-coloured puddle. Shards of blue glass are held in one palm shredding the skin of her palm and cutting open her fingers, some of which have been broken. You recognise the colour of the glass and the crystal-shaped stopper. She had attempting to drink her potion before her hand had been stomped upon. You manage to swallow down the bile rising in the back of your throat.
>>
>>25570995

(Sorry, friend. caught that one late.)

>>25571037

(Don't worry about it. What can possibly happen in a single session?)
>>
>>25570995
Durr, if anyone came by why woul they leave him but not Elly? And since they're bandits, not looted any of the bodies?

Come on, you're going about this ass-backwards.
>>
>>25570442
Hmmm, it seems Elly is a princess, guys, we banged a princess on the first date, mark that down as a victory for reD mages everywhere.

Also, I agree, check on Elly, then question the guy.
>>
>>25571109
Elly isn't the princess that was kidnapped. Where the fuck are you getting that?
>>
>>25571067
Awww...shit. Damnit, who the hell thought it was a good idea to go grab the orb, shame on you. She was still alive when they slit her throat, she would have survived if we went to help her.
>>
>>25571067

It's probably too late, but we should see if that wound was lethal or if there's the off chance that the person who did her in was incompetent enough to not be able to kill a wounded thief. If there's nothing that can be done for Elly, then it's time to get all Jack Bauer on that burned guy.
>>
>>25571067
Goddammit!
Is she completely gone already?

Fuck, we could have saved her and idiots chose the Orb!
Where's your fucking FF conventions now?
>>
>>25571156
>>25571137
In their defence ( I went to bed before that part of the thread, so I didn't vote) they were hoping it was a white magic
>>
>>25571174
>>25571156
It's not like we could have saved her with our spells, though. We had nowhere else to turn.
>>
>>25571174
No, it would have been obvious if it was white magic, since we have actual White Mage training (not as much as a real White Mage but enough).
Their assumption was that Elly was too far gone anyway because a Potion wouldn't be able to heal her completely, which was wrong because Potions can be used as life support and to stabilize critical wounds.

So no, it really was a complete failure on the part of the Orb voters.
>>
>>25571195
We could have stabilized her with the 2 potions we have. And prevented her throat being slit.
>>
>>25571156
>>25571138

There is not a single doubt in your mind now. Her throat is open, she is still as stone and more pallid still. She has been dead for minutes, at the very least.
>>
>>25571226
Okay, can we try and remember what the resurrection thingy we may of heard of was?
>>
>>25571226

Interrogation time, then. Let's see what that bandit guy knows.
>>
>>25571226
CRY AND BAW LIKE THE DUMBASS WE ARE
>>
>>25571195
We wouldn't have gotten her fully healed or back on her feet, but with Potions to stop the immediate bleeding and blood loss, we could have stabilized her long enough to regenerate mana to cast Cure to further stabilize her condition.
We could have saved her, and we failed her for no good reason.
>>
>>25571254
Seconded
>>
>>25571242
Yeah, time to ask this guy who came and slit her throat and left him for dead, because he is going to die with an open wound like that.

Now, on the upside, we have inadvertently spoiled the plans of the people we saw in that white orb, but next time remember what that anon said.

If we're destined to have that orb, we'll eventually have it, if not, then life is it's own reward, save Elly.
I wish I could phrase it better, damn, poor Elly, good job Sage though, givin me the bad feels.
>>
>>25571226
>she'll be alright guys, FF conventions won't kill her yet
>she's dead, probably would have lived if we hadn't gone for the Orb
Where's your fucking conventions now?

Fuck, we're more of a fuckup than Prince Edward.
>>
>>25571212
>>25571260

If you really want to get technical, it was the fault people who wanted to be completely honest with the bandits about our spell repertoire when it was clear that they had a Black Mage who could casually cast Bio on prisoners.

But arguing isn't going to get us anywhere fast. Let's go and get some answers from our other bandit friend.
>>
>>25571300
Who's for BAWWING and interrogating?
>>
>>25571260
I admit, I fucked up, I thought the orb would have given us some sort of power, but I voted for the orb, and there is nothing I can do to reverse that at this point. So I say, suck it up, save the tears for later, Elly's blood is in the mud, and it's time to return the favor with interest.

Talk to the guy, and then I propose we bring Elly's body with us, perhaps Hoskeep knows someone who can raise her, if not, we can try to get in contact with the people who wanted her alive. If they still need her alive, maybe they'll be able to raise her.
>>
>>25571289
>Now, on the upside, we have inadvertently spoiled the plans of the people we saw in that white orb
No we haven't. The Princess is still kidnapped. All we got was a cutscene of exposition. Nothing has been changed. And since we let the two bandits get away, the enemy is still forewarned about our approach.
>>
>>25571321

Channel our BAWW into cold rage and focus that cold rage into pumping that burned guy for information. Preferably after making sure his sword is far away from him, or in our protagonist's hands.
>>
>>25571331
You son of a bitch, look at what you did. Bawww.

Okay, you raise a good point, things don't end here, lets question the swordsman, see what he knows, then time to carry her body through the jungle like Rambo, it's the least we can do, she put out for us, we can try to do one right by her. I mean it's only fair, who wants to die with the last person they had sex with being a Red Mage, it would be hard to do worse.
>>
>>25571331
Already explained by Sage that Raise does not work that way. Dead is dead; Raise and Phoenix Downs only heal fatal and critical wounds, they can't bring back the dead.
Returning the dead to life is a legend that we heard as a kid.

And the only ones who wanted Elly alive would be her bandit clan, who will be pissed the fuck off that we got her killed.
>>
>>25571362

Not sure how long the average human can hold his/her breath, but if that exposition scene was pretty lengthy. If Cecil was underwater for long enough for that Berserker guy to tire himself out and drown on his own exhaustion, then the bandits may think that Cecil drowned.
>>
>>25571240

Searching desperately through your mind for any hope of bringing the thief back to life, you remember a tale of a White Wizard, able to return life to the recently deceased. It is also known that a pinion from Phoenix or one of her kin has the same effect.

>>25571261
>>25571254

Rage, sorrow and utter regret fills the air as you howl like a man drowned by the weight of his own actions.

>>25571289

Your anguished cry has silenced the swordsman. He sits up, looking at you as though staring at something more dread than any outlaw he's ever faced.

"L-Lenorn!" he shrieks as soon as you begin to ask who is responsible. "The archer! He's heading north of the river."

"P-please," he snivels, his voice blubbery with tears, and lifts his burned arm, the agony all too clear on his expression. "Help me!"

Your Potion could cure him, your mana still regenerating. Something pierces your hearing, a birdsong in the otherwise silent wood. To the east, a faint 'tululuo' sound echoes through the trees. And again. And again. And again.
>>
>>25571413
I admit I fucked up, thank you for rubbing it in, we can at least take her body and ensure she gets a proper burial, she is a princess, maybe there's a reward for her return?
She's a princess, with the resources of a kingdom perhaps they have the ability to find a legendary spell to raise the dead?
>>
>>25571423
Knock him out and regroup. WE SHALL CHANNEL THIS RAGE THROUGH OUR TEAM.
>>
>>25571423
Go find that fucking archer and make him wish he mother never shat him out

place a potion jsut out of reach of the swordman's burned arm
>>
>>25571423
So the pinon works? Where the hell are we gonna find one of those
>>
>>25571423

Get the burned bandit's sword. Get him up, march him toward the sound of the Mysidian Wren birdcall. If Ryana is there, then she'll likely want her turn in seeing how much information we can extract from him.

Perhaps see if we can carry Elly's body as well?
>>
>>25571423
Try to respond the call.
Strip the swordsman of his sword. Say we'll give him the Potion for information.
Does Lenorn have a Phoenix Down, or anyone who does.
Answer the questions and he gets the Potion.
We keep him alive, we need the info on the bandits' plans and the layout of their hideout.
>>
>>25571423
God damnit, we need to bring her with us now, it's time to find a Phoenix Pinion, Ryara is calling us, pretty urgently it seems...throw a potion from our bag at the grass at the top of the hill, if the swordsman wants it, he will go get it, and that should give us plenty of time to collect our stuff and get out of here.

I say don't kill the swordsman, we got what we needed, and we have a mark on our soul now, we let someone die for a petty little orb in a pool of dead water. No need to make it worse.
I'm off to my game, don't fuck up anymore guys.
>>
>>25571496
This.
>>
Oh yeah, take the new sword
>>
Rolled 2

>>25571423
knock him out and bring ellie with us to the ranger. wait for hoary, and get that phoenix down. actually telling the party of the betrayal is optional.
>>
>>25571455
>princess
Why does this keep coming up? Elly is not the princess we are looking for. She is not a princess of any kind. She's a bandit, loaned to the bandits that kidnapped the princess to be a mole in any party that would try to rescue the princess.
>>
(Can I get consensus? No more suggestions, need a decision.)
>>
>>25571511

We *should* tell them about the betrayal. Even if Elly turned out to be fonder of Cecil than her servitude to the bandits, she was still willing to put him in a dangerous situation and possibly screw over the entire rescue operation. Besides, if one of the group has such a precious item that could resurrect the dead, they should know all the possible facts before using such a thing.

They'd probably want to hear more about the bandit's fortifications and other details anyway, so chances are they'd resurrect her anyhow.
>>
>>25571572

(And I should mention, the Potion you carry now is your only one, just to make it clear.)
>>
>>25571572

I say that we shouldn't give the potion to the bandit or toss it anywhere. We can use it as incentive to get him to cooperate more.

Get bandit's sword and Elly's body. March bandit in front of us with our sword drawn and toward the location of the birdcall.
>>
I know the Classes are dressed like how they are in the games for easy identification but can they wear different clothes? Like can we wear blue robes and a pointy hat and pretend to be a Black Mage then BAM, ANTIDOTA TO THE FACE

The real question is are we willing to sacrifice style for a tricky disguise?
>>
>>25571616
Only if it can be FF11 Blue Mages

>>25571616
We can be a dual weilding, dual casting, incognito Red Mage?

Red Mystic Mime Mage-Knight.

I am perfectly OK with this.

>We can be a dual weilding

Aw man I totally forgot dual weilding was a thing. Hey Sage does the swordsman still have his sword?

Rolled 7

>>25571662
>Red/Blue Mystic Mime Mage-Knight.
fix'd
>>
That bandit is only going to slow us down with his arm making him weak with pain. We have to choose to use the potion on him or leave him if we want to hurry to Ryara.

And a Pinion is not Down. They are two different things. Phoenix Down won't save Elly anymore.
>>
>>25571683
We take his sword, knock the guy out and take Elly with us back to our group before that archer twat comes back with his banditos.
>>
>>25571683

Burn him to death and loot.
>>
Take the guy's sword, stab him in the throat, carry Elly to the others
>>
>>25571690

The bandit may turn on us if he's healed. I was suggesting we march the bandit along so that the rest of the group can pull information from him. If Ryara is close by, then she'll hear the noise that is being made by the march, and probably see us before the rest of the group does.

But if it'll take too long, then let's go with

>>25571721

We still need the bandit alive, but if he's gonna slow us down, let's make sure he isn't going to go anywhere.
>>
>>25571749
We bind and gag the guy to a chair?
>>
>>25571728
>>25571744

As satisfying as killing him is going to be, he may have important information on other bandit traps, their fortifications, patrols, etc. He's too useful right now to gut like a fish. That can wait until after we wring him for all the information he's worth.
>>
>>25571728
Out of mana, fucktard. Or are you going to try to start a fire without any tools?
>>
>>25571683

How long does Blind last? Does it wear off or is it permanent until you get Eyedrops/Blinda/A good nights rest?
>>
>>25571767

We could always make a fire with firewood. Being a Red Mage we are slightly above average at everything so we must have above slightly above average survival skills.
>>
>>25571780

Latter, it takes a night's rest to fade away without treatment.
>>
>>25571749
Fastest way to get him to the others, assuming that they aren't already in a fight and we're wasting time here, is to take the guy's sword, force him to carry Elly's body, and march him to everyone else.
>>
>>25571829
He ain't carrying shit
>>
>>25571810
>Being a Red Mage we are slightly above average at everything
And it's players like you that make us slightly above average at managing to fuck everything up. We even manage to be more of a screwup than a Bard.
So there's that.
>>
>>25571857

He has one good arm and because Elly is already dead, being dragged along the ground won't cause any injuries.
>>
>>25571876
Dude, I doubt he can even walk
>>
(I like the time I'm getting to develop the world map, here, but I'll need an agreement if we're gonna proceed.)
>>
Why exactly do we care about Elly? She's some their we boned one day, flirted with for a while for some fun, then had turn on us and hand us over to the bandits we were after. The only thing she actually did for us was save us once she realized that thinking the bandits were just going to let us live was a stupid idea. I hate to use this word, but this is one time where the word "waifu" actually applies.

Let's see if he can get up and march. His arm's pretty fucked up, but being threatened by a desperate adventurer with a sharp sword and nothing to lose can serve as a good analgesic.

If not, let's knock him out, hide him somewhere, then gather up Elly's body and make our way to the birdcall noise location.

Seconding the one that says we bring Elly with us to meet Ryara.

We can throw a potion over our shoulder at the swordsman with a threat.
>>
>>25572009

Fine, we cut off her head for easy transport.
>>
>>25572031

We don't want to throw our only potion away. The bandit dude isn't worth healing unless he's bound and giving us information on everything he knows.

If he gets the potion, he'll run away to his buddies or try to stab us in the back.

>>25571976
This is a really shitty system you've got here, I'll tell you what.

>>25571829
Second.
>>
>>25572078

(Very open to suggestions.)
>>
>>25572097
How about actually going with a consensus by reading the posts? We had one earlier where it was mostly grab the swordsman's sword, make him march, and carry Elly's body.
Either that, or go with the votes method that most other quests use; a number of possible actions plus OTHER for player write-ins, and the most voted action within 20-30 minutes gets used.
>>
>>25571829

The bandit grabs his sword with his good hand as you reach for it. "No! N-no!" He struggles for a brief moment, but you easily wrangle the blade from him, gaining yourself one iron short sword. He follows your order to climb the hill, getting to his feet whilst pleading for mercy and potions both. It's a slow march up as he stumbles twice, both times causing him to curl in excruciating pain until you poke him with the tip of your sword. When you tell him to carry Elly's dead body, he stares at you, aghast.

"W-why!?" The idea horrifies him, but eventually, he relents and, with your help, slings the dead woman over his shoulder, holding her legs with his one good arm. You notice her bag has been looted, her daggers missing from her belt, too.

You start to head for where you heard the whistles, although the more you walk, the more you realise you were led off course.

"Halt!" You suddenly hear, from up in the trees. However, when you look up, its not a hostile face you see, but an all too surprised Ryara. She keeps her arrow notched. "... Cecil... what is the meaning of this?"
>>
>>25572154
"Got a prisoner here; one of the bandits from the group we're after. I was hoping to interrogate him for anything we can use about the bandit's hideout and what defenses they have.
"Is Horry around with his Phoenix Down? Elly didn't make it."
>>
>>25572122

(Noted, I saw too many opposing ideas to form a single consensus, but I'll try. I personally don't like the 'ending a post with a selection of actions' style, because I have no intention of giving the player suggestions. However, if I don't think a consensus has been reached in a certain amount of posts, I'm going to offer a selection from what has been offered then wait some time for votes.)
>>
>>25572122

Yeah, like when Emmy was trying to fuck us most of the votes where actually along the lines of covering your eyes/blinding yourself and running/screaming, generally nopeing the whole sex business.

>>
>>25572193
Yeah, acting like a complete and total retard.
That's the danger of systems like that.

>>25572190
If you don't want to give players suggestions, then be prepared to read posts to try to determine what the consensus is. Also, you should give a time limit otherwise we'll just argue for hours.
The 'Choose Action or Write-In/Time Limit' is meant to make things easier for you and to keep things moving. If you don't want to do that, then be prepared to work hard to determine the consensus.

The distrust is all too clear in the elf's green eyes. However, as she recognises the truth of the situation, she slowly lets her bowstring slacken.

"So that is Elly...," she sighs, a touch of mourning in her voice, but nothing more. "Good job capturing a bandit, but forget about finding their hideout. We'll need him for something else."

The elf drops to the forest floor, swift as a dart but with a landing as soft as a leaf.

"Come, Horry and Hoskeep are close."

She nods in gesture to the east, aiming an arrow at the thief, a safer method of forcing a prisoner forward, surely. As you begin to walk, Ryara's eyes flicker in your direction, the discomfort clear on her frown.

"She is dead, Cecil," she restates. "What is your intention? You wish to bury her?"

>>
>>25572462

"So Horry, how was your day?"
>>
>>25572496

"It is said that the moon carries the souls of the departed as it sails overhead," informs Ryara. "Whether that's true or not, a it is known that longer than a day is too long."

After some ten minutes of travelling, you come across a clearing, a peaceful scene, in which your other two companions wait. Horry sits on a wide, flat stone, hands resting on the pommel of his unsheathed blade, the tip nesting against the wild grass. Rust red rests on the blade. Rust red is also on the brow of the old knight, his face sterner than ever and stiller than stone, arms crossed and greatsword sheathed on his back.

"Cecil? Ryara?" he raises his voice in question, looking over the strange group of four that makes up your band. Particularly the burned man, who is turning delirious with the pain and exhaustion of carrying a dead body with a single useful arm. Ryara explains the situation.

Horry stands. His blue eyes glimmer, but he fights back whatever threatens to spill.

"Cecil, I'm sorry..." He seems to not be quite clear why he is apologising. Perhaps it's your expression. Ser Hoskeep shakes his head.

"We have no time to bury her. Leave her. Ryara, explain to Cecil what happened." With that, he turns and begins to make his way south, due for the exit of the forest you had taken before. Horry begins to follow slowly, but Ryara looks to you, uncertainty in her eye.

The knight turns on his heel, making three hard steps towards you, leaning down to fix his single eye on yours.

"We. Don't. Have. Time. And you have no shovel. The bandits have absconded with the noblewoman. Ryara, tell the fool." He growled.

"Cecil, you must not have known it in the chaos that befell you, but the Lucky Dogs had a small airship hidden in the forest. I saw it take off, the Black Mage, most of the Dogs and the woman all aboard."

"We'll honour her with a bloody statue, but we need to get on the trail of that airship as soon as possible." Ser Hoskeep seemed angry enough that he had to wait for you to return. "Bring the bandit, leave the girl."
>>
>>25572849
"cant let them get to the ritual sight"
>>
>>25572849

Can't we at least bring her remains to a place where she can be properly interred? She may have friends or family in Corneria who will undoubtedly mourn for her. We're bound to stop by a town on our way there or stop somewhere to rest. If we don't go to a town, we can at least bury her by the road when we stop to rest.
>>
>>25572949

I'd rather not make Ser angrier with moaning on top of incompetence.
>>
>>25572849
"I'll not leave her to rot, nor will I slow you down. If we're that pressed for time, leave me behind and I'll catch up later."

We'll carry Elly's body for now, so that we can bury her or we find a Phoenix Pinion if we can catch up with the airship.
>>
>>25572993

It's not moaning, it's maintaining a basic level of human decency.

But if things are SO urgent that we're going to attempt to chase after an airship with nothing but a wagon and choccobos and a wounded prisoner in tow, then things are truly well and fucked.
>>
>>25572949
Her family is in the Bandit Woods, and either we leave her behind or we carry her without slowing the rest of the party down.
We're already marked down as a braggart who writes checks his body can't cash, who gets party members killed as well as slowing the party down.

Yes, they ARE that fucked. Maybe they wouldn't be as fucked if we hadn't let the two bandits go to warn the others.
>>
>>25572849

"She was an ally and a friend and I'm not going to leave her for the carrion to chew on. You go on ahead and I'll catch up the best I can."

We should probably mention the vision we had and the Dragoon/Dark Knight Hellond. Hoskeep might know about whatever he's planning or where they may be going.
>>
>>25573041

Maybe they wouldn't be as fucked if someone decided that honesty was the best policy when lying for our lives would have served.
>>
>>25573059
Well yes.
The first mistake was not going with Elly's plan, and instead of saying we know a high-level spell, listing ones that any scrub black mage would know; scrub white mage spells too, for that matter.
Second mistake was going for the Orb instead of going for Elly.

We've been on a roll of making stupid decisions.
>>
>>25573094

Wait, my joke suggestion of "Meteor, Death and Raise" would've worked? You guys should've seconded that!

Ser Hoskeep looks as red as a man can safely get.

"What about the old woman in the tower?" Horry, wearing a panicked expression, pipes up suddenly. "She had a little crop there... surely she could bury Elly for us, if we pay?"

Although the idea of making an old woman toil to bury your companion, and bedmate, isn't the most pleasant, Hoskeep begrudgingly nods.

"Fine. Give the girl here. Horry, give the thief a potion and Ryara, keep your bow trained. He'll not live if he keeps a burn like that on the road."

Hoskeep takes the dead thief's body from the living one's. He holds her with one arm, too, but with much more ease. He is clearly a man with experience holding the dead. Horry tentatively does as told, extending the potion to the bandit with a outstretched hand. The man almost falls in reaching for it, drinking it down in heavy gulps. You've always found it difficult to drink potions quickly, as cold as they are tart, but, despite a shiver running over his body, he has no trouble. A light blue mist emanates over the burnt arm. When it fades, the burns are gone. The man gasps for air, as if drinking from an oasis after a year of thirst.

"My lords... I thank ye, truly, truly I thank ye." He is close to sobbing, and his voice still heavy with exhaustion.

"Don't." Ryara orders, pulling her bowstring taut as she maintains some distance from the man.

Hoskeep, feeling that enough time has been wasted, leads the party to the end of the forest.

Do you have anything to bring up on the way, or do you wish to fast travel?
>>
>>25573130

"Hey Horry, check out this orb! You should touch it."

>>25573119

I just wish that all these other guys would seriously cut out that shit with the passive-aggresive "I told you so" posts OR "what if things had lined up 100% perfectly with no margin of error on the other course of action" posts.

>>
>>25573196
>what if things had lined up 100% perfectly with no margin of error on the other course of action
Even if it hadn't been perfect, we'd still be in a better situation than we are now.
The Orb did NOTHING except give us some exposition about the plot, and explicitly confirmed that our employer was the king, even though the blatant clues previously made it obvious.

"We'll find out about that," snorts Hoskeep. He seems eager to take out his frustrations on this bandit on the road.

That's one.
Second, even though how Raise and Phoenix Downs were explained very explicitly, people didn't understand it until it was explained 3 times.

Horry is mesmerised by the misty colour of the thing and the bandit seems covetous of such a treasure having been found in the forest. Ryara comments that orbs are often a tool of mediums and mystics and can have magical properties. But Hoskeep stares between you and the sphere.

"Cecil...," anger recedes, but his tone takes a hint of gravity to it. "When you found that, did anything strange happen?"

[x] The taking of the crystal
[x] The identity of the attackers

Us knowing that it's the princess we're after doesn't change anything, except making us into a liability to be silenced later.
The attack on the throne room isn't as important as the fact that the King is still alive and that the Crystal is what's been stolen. As Ser Highwind said, the throne room attack is just a diversion.
>>
>>25573816

(What detail can I provide for you?)
>>
>>25573819
>>25573818
Ser Hoskeep and the King went to great trouble to hide the identity of the King and of the Princess; why do you think it would be a good idea to undo all of that? There is literally no tactical advantage to it.

Also, the attack on the throne room was a distraction; the attackers said it was as soon as they had the Crystal secured and it no longer mattered. Since the King wasn't killed, the attack on the throne room doesn't matter.
>>
>>25573942
I said maybe
>>
>>25573786

One detail I forgot:

[ ] Princess's blood being of value to the thieves
[ ] Leave this bit out
>>
>>25573949
You said >>25573818
>At least the first two
Which are the taking of the crystal and the attack on Corneria's throne room.

I've explained why talking about the throne room isn't needed, especially as it may make Hoskeep reprioritize his mission to go back to the castle instead of going after the Princess.
>>
>>25573975
>[x] Princess's blood being of value to the thieves
Knowing that they won't kill her because they need her blood makes planning easier, and should be told to Hoskeep.
>>
>>25573942

Hence, why I said to leave out the identity of the king. I'll grant you that the throne room isn't important, though.

>>25573975

>[x] Leave this bit out
>>
>>25573828
>>25573835

I'll second both of these.

As far as the blood goes... that seems like an important detail to give to Ser Hoskeep, but can we safely say it in front of everyone?
>>
Hoskeep holds a hand up in gesture for everyone to stop as you admit you had visions from the Orb. At first, it looks like anger might overtake him again. But soon he sighs, like only an old man can.

"Son, I understand today has been difficult for you, but what you just described..." He glances to the other three. His gaze rests heavily on the bandit for a few moments. "We have much to discuss when we reach the tower."

You walk on. Hoskeep remembers the path he had taken, and before long, you are all at the mouth of the forest from which you had entered. Elly's dead body lolls over his shoulder, a last drop of blood shaken free to slide down his pauldron. At the stone tower, the bent crone appears at the door. Her expression is unchanging as she looks over the group, vastly different under the light of sundown.

<continued>

(Can I get one last vote on the blood point?)
>>
>>25573997
I'll second
>>
>>25574197
You made it sound like like we HAVE to say that it's the Princess, rather than the noblewoman we have to save.

Say that the Noblewoman's blood is of value to the thieves, not that she's the Princess.
>>
>>25574266

I'll second saying that the "Noblewoman's" blood is important to the thieves. Don't say anything about a princess.
>>

>>25574197

Hoskeep makes his way to the tower to speak with the woman. After a moment, he ventures inside. After a moment, he gestures at the door, waving the rest of you in.

It is soon apparent that the tower is the old woman's home. The body of Elly rests on a wooden wheelbarrow, placed in something of a dignified pose. It's impossible, still, to avoid the grisly sight of her broken hand, slit throat and punctured stomach. The old woman places a pickaxe and a shovel on the barrow before wheeling the corpse outside. Despite her bent form, she seems sturdy, pushing the barrow with a huff of effort but no real difficulty.

"I must be clear." Hoskeep speaks as soon as the five of you are alone. "Cecil, the orb you hold, I believe, can only be an Orb of Guidance."

This elicited a gasp from everyone present. You know what an Orb of Guidance is. It appears in the hands of four chosen, leading them to a great destiny when the balance of the world is threatened.

"The Orb has shown you where you -must- go," he stressed. "You -are- its chosen, a weapon in the hands of Cosmos. You must travel to the place shown in the crystal." He looks at you with a furtive understanding. You can sense his appreciation that you haven't spilled information that he understands you simply must know.

"The Crystal and the noblewoman. We cannot lose sight of either. Cecil, your path to the Crystal begins where you saw it, in Corneria, where the three other chosen Warriors of Light will also arrive. I, however, must fulfill my duty. This is where we must split. Cecil, hesitate not, you will have to take the chocobo and make for Corneria immediately. Who will you take?"

Gotta take our bro Horry.
>>
>>25574611
Take Horry. Ryara will be of more use to Hoskeep as an experienced Elven Ranger, and we can't afford to cripple one team for the sake of the other.
>>
>>25574611
Really making it apparent that we can't, and will never, save Elly, huh.
>>
>>25574611

Horry, all the way.

Also for the reasons in

>>25574727
>>
>>25574727
Seconding this as it makes sense
>>
>>25574810
Personally I can't stand the oaf, and Ryara really is the better option from a pure utility and combat perspective. But, we have to go about things intelligently, and Hoskeep needs all the help he can get on the trail of the airship, and we'll meet up with hopefully better help in Corneria.

Ryara nods in agreement, and Horry looks starstruck.

"You really -are- fated to become a great mage!" he exclaims.

"Cecil," calls the old knight. "We must talk awhile before you depart."

You step outside with Hoskeep. He gives a weary sigh.

"I realise now that you must understand the identity of the man I serve, and the woman I seek to save. I appreciate your silence on the matter. I did not make as much of you as perhaps I should have. But I do not give this following advice in underestimation of your skills or resolve."

"Ser Hellond Highwind..." he seems to bristle with anger at mentioning the name, but shakes his head. "You must avoid this man at all costs, until the time when you are united with the other three Orb bearers. It is said that he singlehanded ended the Urrestal rebellion seven years ago, a treason that threatened to shatter the realm into a war potentially even more heinous than the War of Queen and King."

"He has many loyal soldiers, including the three score led by his three lieutenants. Semyala the Red Dancer, Ume Ollen the Geomancer and Ser Darry Risenwing, or as he was known in his sky pirating days, Darry the Fell Wind. Until as such time that the threat to the realm is recognised and you have the support you need, you will be simply be unable to meet them in combat and win."

He clasps a gloved hand on your shoulder.

"Now go. Take Horry and the chocobo and make for Corneria. I'm afraid you will need to rest a night at the village of Calim on your way, simply due to the travel we made to get here. But a single night's rest should be all they need to safely make it to Corneria. And here, in case you need it for the journey."

Reaching behind him and under his cloak, you hear a jingle as Ser Hoskeep unfastens a pouch from his belt. He places it in your hand.

"1,500 gil. I'll be able to raise the money much easier should I need to. Now, is there anything else you need to know?"

As you deliberate, you can hear the old woman cracking the earth into soft chunks with her pickaxe.
>>
>>25575146

(4chan plz)
>>
>>25575146
>you can hear the old woman cracking the earth into soft chunks with her pickaxe.
You keep on twisting that knife. You already made the situation such that saving her is impossible.

"What should I tell the King so that he believes my story. Even with the Orb, I'm not sure that a man forced into the situation he's in now would believe me."
>>
>>25575146
Any clue how to find the others who have the orbs, or is it one of those "the orbs will find each other" things?
>>
>>25575146

Where exactly in Corneria will I need to go?

Will the right people in Corneria be expecting me? Or will I have to show them something to meet up with the rest of the Warriors of Light? How will I know the other three Warriors?

Will Highwind and his allies know me on sight? And if he does recognize me or my comrades for what we are going to be, how can we best evade them?
>>
>>25575231
Seconded
>>
>>25575187

Hoskeep frowns.

"I fear you are right. His daughter has been taken and now the Grand Crystal of Fire, along with the rising tensions between Erelund and Velarya... but fear not. The Orb is proof of your identity. Not even a king can deny such. If anything, your appearance will most likely be a comfort to him. The Crystals maintain the balance of the world. The Crystal and the Princess are tied, remind him of this if need be."

>>25575193
>>25575231

"Make for the palace. The other Warriors of Light have seen the same vision, they will come to understand the nature of the Orb and the vision. Now that the Crystal has been taken, the Sage in Corneria might even expect your arrival. He should know how best to proceed from there. And, at least on your way to Corneria, Highwind will have no knowledge of you. However, when it is clear that his own actions brought the Warriors of Light together, he will seek to destroy you. And the news of your appearance will spread, you can rest assured of that."
>>
>>25575357
Then it sounds like instead of stopping at Calim, we should try to trade in our chocobo for another one there, and not waste any time.

I suppose it's probably futile, but may as well ask the old lady about Phoenix Pinions.
>>
>>25575404

You remember that the chocobo Hoskeep will provide you with are the orange breed. You are well aware that this is a rare breed, stronger yet darker tempered than the regular yellow. No yellow chocobo could survive travelling two nights consecutively without serious injury or more than three nights without dying.

You are wary to think of it, but you turn to the now grave-digging lady and ask about Phoenix Pinions.

"Is a great treasure, them feathers," she speaks, soft and toothless. "The Phoenix are her kin are rare birds, to be sure. A single Pinion is said to be worth 50,000 gil alone. But I'm just an old crone. I know little of the world."
>>
>>25575552

(i could've stopped this)
>>
>>25575552
"No stories or rumors about one being within a day's travel, then?
"I wouldn't be so lucky, would I?"

Are Hoskeep and Horry already getting the Chocobo's ready to ride?
>>
>>25575609

The woman doesn't seem to connect your question with the grave she's now sliding a corpse into, and give a wide, toothless chuckle.

"'Fraid not, dote."

When you turn to the tower, Horry has the two chocobo reined. Hoskeep tells him of the plan to head for Calim and rest a night.

"Aye, they're tired... ill tempered, too. This one snapped at my arm as soon as I tried to saddle her..." he patted the rump of one of the birds. And received an angry whirr in return. Horry brings the birds towards you, and hands you the reins to one. His eyes widen every time he looks at you, as if he's afraid even to speak, but he gives a nod and does so, regardless.

"Best be on our way, Ser Mycroft."

(And that's it for tonight, folks. Stayed up hella late to make up for my inactivity earlier. Next session is Sunday. I'm planning to make it two hours earlier, but I might not be able to wiggle that. At latest it'll be regular time. Hope you've enjoyed playing and hope to see y'all next time.)
>>
>>25575698

>Pilot CHB-3R Choccobo.
>Verify all systems nominal.

Then bid Ser Hoskeep good luck on his mission.

The old woman is that dense?
"Is there anything or anyone that I can get to revive this girl?"
>>
>>25575731
Before we go, we need to at least make sure to leave an epitaph for Elly's grave.
One that points the finger of her death at the Lucky Dogs. That way, the Odin's Bastards will know who to turn their knives against, and we won't find a bandit's knife at our throat in our sleep.
>>
>>25575740
Yeah. A Phoenix Pinion. In less than 24 hours.
>>
>>25575812
So it needs to be phrased better?
"Where can I get a person or thing to revive this girl in time, before her soul leaves her body for good?"
>>
>>25575847

(Sorry, I gotta be up in about three hours, so I really have zero more time to spend here. Such questions will be answered next time.)
>>
>>25575874
As long as it gets answered, as I won't be able to make Sunday.

And people had better not miss the obvious sidequest to revive Elly, like getting the fish for Cid in FF6.

This thread feels confusing to read somehow.
