Welcome, boys and girls, to your Sunday edition of Iron and Hate Quest, with your ever-so-slightly-hung-over QM, Page!

You are Lord William Bordain, Lord of Morderengrad and the Norther Valley. Some call you the Iron Lord, as your wealth flows from the arms and armor you sell, and your demeanor is as unflinching and cold as castle-forged steel. Those who oppose you are forged into your next weapons, or crushed and tossed to the winds.

Two years you brooded on the slaying of the Targaryen children, the deed that won you your Lordship, while your lands fell to bandits and saboteurs. Within the last two seasons, you have quelled these troubles, and made your lands safe again. You are betrothed to the Lady Alyssa Tollett, and will one day be Lord of Grey Glen in addition to your other holdings.

Having recently uncovered and defeated a plot against you by servants in a nearby House, You've turned your eye to a more prolonged campaign: your wedding to Alyssa Tollett. Having accidentally thrown the grandest wedding not directly involving a royal family in the last thirty years, you found yourself besieged with well-wishers from around the Seven Kingdoms, with the King himself at your wedding. You visited by your one-time teacher Tywin Lannister, who presented you with a terrifying mission: To make yourself the Hand of the King, whether officially or by proxy.

Since then, you have attempted to reconnect with your sister, lost in the joust to Willas Tyrell, and had one of your men poisoned by Oberyn Martell, though he healed swiftly from your Maester's aid, and actually defeated Willas Tyrell the next day.

You are currently in your solar, with your fiancée Alyssa Tollett, and your Maester, Arban, as he mixes you a light tincture to ensure you recover quickly from your beating the day before.

Only one day remains in the tournament, the Grand Melee, then your wedding.

A slow start today, I see. Well, I said we'd run today, so by the Seven we will run today.

If no one shows up in the next little while, I'll have you start talking to your maester about options/backstory, to give people time to appear, and not just have empty bumps.
>>
>>25604340
Actually I was here at noon, when you said you'd run, I didn't see the thread so I figured you'd be late.
If I figured you'd be by 2 mins later, I wouldn't've made a sandwhich
>>
>>25604418
Fair enough, my good Anon.
Ran into a "Field length too long", had to shift some stuff.
>>
>>25604488
am here.
>>
>>25604522
>>25604418

Anything you wish to talk to your bride-to-be or your Maester about/anything you wish to accomplish this evening, or should we proceed straight to the Grand melee tomorrow?
>>
>>25604567
Uhh maybe we should check his supply of antivenin's? Other than that, I think we should just finish up this tournament.
>>
>>25604567

Do we need to do any micromanaging with our Maester about treating our poisoned bannerman? Or is he already on the case?
>>
What can we do toward proving that Oberyn poisoned our bannerman? If we can't think of anything, ask Arban.
>>
>>25604567

I say we should just ask if there is anything he needs to do better work and for the evening Thinking we should talk to William's family a bit. Maybe talk to the new wifey's dad about how things are going.
>>
Add on to this. We have to ask about the possibility of proving it was poison. Since we have no goddamn idea how this poison works.
>>
>>25604567

Let's go straight to the melee.
>>
>>25604567
I feel like, even if we don't yet trust our maester with Tywin's plans, we should consult with him a little but.

Like maybe just ask how to make ourselves more trustworthy hm the eyes of our liege lord?

Or if we want to be bolder, ask him how he thinks things are going at King's Landing.
>>
>>25604695
>>25604727

Oh yeah. We should probably see if there's any evidence we can gather. If we're going to make such a claim against Oberyn, we're going to need completely irrefutable and extremely strong evidence.
>>
>>25604769

Best to ask to see if it is even possible. After all Oberyn isn't a idiot so he most likely got a hard to prove poison.
>>
>>25604660
Your maester is a competent physician, and has it well in hand. He's already beaten the poison itself, it'll just take a day or two for Donnal's body to purge the venom fully.

>>25604701
"Better work, my lord? To do better work, I would need to be one the Seven themselves!" He laughs at his own grandstanding.
"IN truth, my lord, the resources I would need to improve are wide and varied, and not at all cheap. It's more a matter of HOW you wish me to work better than IF."

>>25604695
>>25604769
Arban sighs.
"There, I think, you will find yourself in an awkward position, my lord."
"Widow's blood is a terrible venom, made to resemble a swiftly ravaging disease. It is a difficult venom to identify, similarly hard to slow, and a devil to cure. For any other than a Maester, your knight would have merely received a corruption of the bowels from the blow he took."
"Had I been thinking of longer plans, my lord, I would have merely stayed the venom's course, and we could have called for an inspection. In my drive to free Ser Donnal from the pains of the disease, I have destroyed our ability to prove Oberyn's villany."

He sighs. "Not that I think you would have had much luck in that pursuit, my lord."
>>
>>25604904
>In my drive to free Ser Donnal from the pains of the disease, I have destroyed our ability to prove Oberyn's villany."

Say, but in a more articulate and lordly tone: "Don't worry about it. Your saved my bannerman and did a good job doing so."
>>
>>25604904

It would have been an uphill battle, as these things tend to be more of a clash of reputations rather than evidence and expert testimony.

But he did save Ser Donnal from a deadly and obscure poison, and that's the most important and impressive thing.
>>
>>25604904

How can we reward Arban?

He did do his job as a Maester, but he did a damn good one and I think he should receive some sort of reward for his efforts.
>>
>>25604904

Ok looks like we should let Oberyn go then. But remember this happened. Martell just got a new enemy.

As for the resources. I honestly think we should just hand Arban 3-4 wealth and tell him to get the best Anti-poision and injury recovery ingredients he can. Because in our situation you never know when we might get poisoned or stabbed by a assassin.

While we are at it we might as well ask about how he thinks we should get favor with the liege lord.
>>
>>25604904

Thank teh maester and go to the melee. Make sure to look for Oberyn during the fight, and order for every weapon to be inspected for any kind of poison before.
>>
>>25605134

That kind of move might besmirch the honor of all the participants involved unless we handle it carefully. If we had more evidence of venom/poison being used, then perhaps we could've made a case for a general inspection out of the safety of all the lords assembled.
>>
>>25605134
>>25605198
How about something like "Since House Bordain is forged by steel, all those participating shall be given Bordain weapons to fight with, you also will also be allowed to keep these weapons afterwards, as a respect to your valor" or something?

Forces everyone onto a level playing field, and highlights our generoisty, as well as our martial focus.
>>
>>25605251
>"Since House Bordain is forged by steel, all those participating shall be given Bordain weapons to fight with, you also will also be allowed to keep these weapons afterwards, as a respect to your valor" or something?

Ooh!

I like this idea.

Nice idea, plus we might be able to attract orders for our steel from the lords and ladies they serve.
>>
>>25605251

Is also effectively saying we think our weapons are better then theirs and a little to generous. After all we need all the advantage we can get.
>>
>>25605251

Unless there's some ancient law or whatever that forbids this, I say this.
>>
>>25605095
>>25605068
>>25604999

You wave a hand.
"Fear not, Arban, you saved my bannerman from a devilish assassination, and you shall be rewarded."

Arban nods. "If I may suggest a reward, my lord? Your castle is sadly lacking in a library. An assortment of tomes, manuals, and histories would improve my resources beyond my personal texts, and could provide your lordship and his lady a way to better themselves in their leisure. Knowledge is like a garden, tend it, feed it, and it shall always feed you."

You mention grabbing more antivenoms and he nods. "I shall strive to keep my lord free from the Viper's sting. At least he is distant, now."

At your confused look, Arban clarifies: "In lowering his lance to strike Ser Clamon, he dishonored himself, and was removed from the lists. He has since left for home, no doubt unwilling to remain with the eyes of the King upon him."

You ask about improving your position with your liege lord.

"I know him not personally, my lord, but I will think on some gift or two. Perhaps an herb, that he might better please his lady wife?"

And since the consensus seems to move on to the melee, we will do so. (Arban will be with you if you have any further questions for him)
Give me a few minutes to write up the melee.

If there are no complaints, I'll use>>25605251
>>
>>25605309

Use it, and see about doing:

>Perhaps an herb, that he might better please his lady wife?"

Just for an added compliment/thanks for going up against the Viper.
>>
>>25605309
Well I just proposed it as an alternative to causing a ruckus by checking everyone's blades for poison, but it'll also shows off our benevolence while also showing off that we are martial as fuck.

I don't know how expensive hading out a few dozen sets of Castle-Forged steel are, but I feel it'll go a long way for our reputation.

Also, I was thinking we try to create two different types of Dreadnaught Armour, one used for combat, and one used for Jousting. The jousting version will try to maximise protection of the front, at expense of the sides and back, and the shape of the armour would be designed to deflect lance strikes head-on rather than the wide variety of blows that regular armour faces.
>>
>>25605416
>I don't know how expensive hading out a few dozen sets of Castle-Forged steel are

We can afford it.

And if it all goes well, we can use it to sell our steel to other houses of Westeros if they so please.
>>
>>25605436
Yeah, one of the benefits would be that it would be a huge advetising campaign, during one of the largest social events in recent memory, kinda like having a 5 minute commercial during the Superbowl, so I'm not too worried about the expense.
>>
>>25605474
Hmm, let me revise that, since the Royals are attending, and no one else is doing anything similar, it'd be like the Superbowl combined with the series finale of M*A*S*H* with us being the only one with a commercial for the entire thing.
>>
>>25605384
You nod at Arban "The herb at least, and come to me with any other ideas, but for now I must rest."

You pass the night in sleep, and on the morrow, rise for the grand melee to end the Tourney. You send Korbis to get enough fresh weapons to arm each competitor as they could want.
As you walk to breakfast, Egar falls in behind you. You glance at the captain of your Bloodsmiths.
"Don't you have a melee to prepare for?"
"Withdrawn, my lord. With the attack on Donnal, better I stand with you for safety."
"Besides," he continues. "Grell and Donnal already bought you honor, Lord. Better someone not of your lands wins the melee."

You nod, reminded once more that for all his silence and bloodlust, Egar is no fool. You proceed to the Lord's box, and rise, as the crowds quiet for your pronouncement.

"Since House Bordain is forged in Iron, and fed by steel, all those participating in the melee shall be given weapons to fight with from our own forges, and they will also be allowed to keep these weapons afterwards, as a respect to their valor. Let your strength not fail you, for my steel will not!"
Cheers go up from the smallfolk and knights alike, and the lords applaud your generous action.

You see some knights joining the melee at the last minute, to snatch up a few weapons from your forges for free, and you're certain than several of the knights didn't originally intend to wield all the weapons they grab. One man takes three knives, a long sword, and a battle axe.
>>
>>25605621

Lol, that is awesome.

Are there any promising hedge knights in the melee that we should watch out for?
>>
>>25605621
Oh gods, we're turing into the SOIAF version of Oprah.
"Hey everyone, look under your chairs, Free Weapons!"
>>
>>25605657

We really should grab that jouster actually. If he isn't already grabbed after that show. Also we should be on the look out for more hedge knights.
>>
>>25605775

OVER 9000 STEEL PENISES
>>
>>25605784
Who? If you're referring to the guy who beat us, he's working for the Tyrell's, or someone equally important.

>>25605822
Fuck off, Bromont.
>>
>>25605834
>Fuck off, Bromont.

I'm not Bromont, nor do I know who that is.
>>
>>25605621

What next?
>>
>>25605621
The melee takes a few hours, as it normally does. You see that some of the more prestigious knights gong out of their way to trounce hedge knights, no doubt hoping to snap up the glory of at least one victory. And trounce them they do, in the main. After about an hour, it's down to four contestants. one is a hedge knight, no bonded house, and is in fact the walking arsenal you noted earlier. It appears he uses a battle-axe and knife combination. An aggressive style, with little in the way of protection. He faces off against a Lord of the Vale, A Knight from King's Landing, and another of Willas' personal guard. (Jesus, the man must hire men like you do.)

There seems to be an unspoken agreement between the noble lords that this hedge knight will go down first, and then they will resolve the melee. If only the Hedge knight agreed. Like a cornered badger, he lashes out, keeping the other three at a distance. Willa's man stumbles over an abandoned shield, and the hedge knight takes the opening, slamming the axe into him, and knocking him back and down. The guard quickly calls out a yield, as the hedge knight raises over him.

The focus costs him, though, as the vale lord's mace takes him in the back of the thigh, toppling him to the ground, where he rolls quickly to avoid a follow-up blow. He throws his knife at the lord's face, driving him back for a moment, giving himself room to stand and resume a defensive position, but you can see his leg is pained, and it slows him.
As the other two close in, and beat him down, the ringing of their blades fills the air. The clang and clash reverberating in your ears, as the bayed hedge knight mounts failed offensive after failed offensive. It sounds almost like...a song.
(cont)
>>
>>25605834

The first dude we jousted. That Hedge knight from the north that was tough enough to take so many hits from us. If he isn't taken anyway.
>>
>>25606017

But the song slows and falters, and in the end, the hedge knight takes a clip from the mace to the head, and falls, unconcious.

The battle is swiftly done after that. The Knight of King's Landing was clever, and let the lord tire himself out. And so it was that Ser Staunton takes the grand melee trophy, to the cheers of the crowd.

(fin)
>Actions?
>Proceed to wedding.
>>
>>25606037
Offer that Hedge Knight a job, or at least have an offer waiting for him for when he gets up.

Make sure that his wounds are being taken care of as well.
>>
>>25606037
Snap up that Hedge knight, compliment his use of our steel.
>>
>>25606037
Look into the promising hedge kinghts and the no bonded house. In particular the hedge knight who made it to the end as well as any others who fought particularly well.
>>
>>25606037
>Actions?

Ask the Hedge Knight that fought with song to join us.
>>
Send our Maestrr to check on the hedge knoght, and then send one of our more presentable captains to invite him to an audience where we will hopefully recruit him.

>>
>>25606119

ask our captains and Bloodsmiths if they have an recommendations on who we should try to recruit.
>>
>>25606174

No, that's a different guy.
>>
>>25606174
Nope. We chose not to hurt him and put a damper on the day.
>>
>>25606202
Well in that case okay, then.
We should always be on a lookout for more talent, I don't fucking care if he's a former poacher, if they're good, we hire 'em.

>>25606206
No, we did enough damage to kill him outright, but chose to maim him instead.
>>
>>25606247

Yeah we got RAEG AND HATE!! mode after the first guy we jousted and that guy took about 3 hits each one a roll of around 22-24 to the face before falling. Was actually right before our guys family showed up.
>>
>>25606194
>>25606119
>>25606114
>>25606080

You tap Egar and indicate the hedge knight who made it to the final three. You also ask him to have men talk to any men your captains found promising in the trials, and you want specific attention paid to the men you jousted with.
Egar nods his understanding, and calls forth another Bloodsmith, to go get the opinions of your captains, and have any promising men report to you.
Given that in at least some cases, you will have to wait for them to heal or awaken, Egar informs you that he'll have them report to you the day after your wedding, to discuss potential service.

And so you find yourself with nothing left to do before your wedding.

So I'm going to grab some food really quick, You may want to think of anything you want to do for/during the ceremony.
>>
>>25606247

I believe they're talking about the first knight you faced, who took a hellish beating before falling, versus the second knight, who you did maim.
>>
>>25606319
>You may want to think of anything you want to do for/during the ceremony.

Wear our best noble clothes.

That's about all I can think of.
>>
>>25606343
Exactly.

Also, rhere isn't much to do really other than congratulate the melee winner and move on to the wedding.
>>
>>25606343
That's why I responded to
>>25606202
Saying "That's okay then" in the same post

Also as a man who's been to too many weddings IRL, I hope that we don't get into too much detail with it. (I'm not saying we should skip in entirely, but there's chick-level detail and guy-level detail for weddings...)
>>
Thinking other then preparing mentally for the worst war William has ever fought. I can't think of too much to do really. Maybe bro it up with someone?
>>
>>25606505

Yeah, plus all a Westerosi wedding is made up of (according to the books and tv shows) is standing near the Septon/Septa and saying "Father, Mother, Smith, Warrior, Maiden, Crone, Stranger... etc. etc. Love you 5evahr and 5evahr" done.
>>
>>25606589
Then everyone tears the clothes off the bride and groom and throws them into the bedroom.
>>
>>25606589
If that was the extent of the wedding, I would be good with it.
>>
>>25606661

Well yeah, that too.

>>25606664

And then what the anon I linked to first says, where we get carried off and stripped naked before consummating our marriage to our newlywed bride.

>get naked

Do we need to roll for anal circumference?
>>
>>25606661

don't forget the feast. After that is when the bride and groom get their clothes torn off and thrown into their bedroom. After much taunting/leering and cheering of course. Not to mention all those people waiting right outside the door...listening.

You congratulate Ser Staunton, and present him with the reward for winning the Grand melee, and have a brief ceremony once again honoring Edric Stone, Ser Donnal Clamon, And Ser Staunton, for their success in the trials of your tournament.

The next day, Korbis helps you into your formal suit of cloth, decked in your house colors, and provides you the bridal cloak, also in your house colors. You return to the throne room, where tables and chairs have been laid for the families and visiting nobility. The Septon of the Eyrie stand by your throne, in the holy garb of the Seven, as you cross the room to the applause of the gathered Lords and Ladies.

You have but a brief wait before Alyssa appears, her dark hair woven into a braid similar to the one you met her in, her dress light and flowing, her cloak about her shoulders, with her father behind her.

The ceremony is brief and straightforward.
Lord Tollett bestows his daughter: "To my friend, neighbor, and son in spirit, Lord Bordain."

You and Alyssa swear on the names of the Seven, to love and support each other, to endure winter cold and summer flame, storm and sword, loss and profit as one soul, before the eyes of the gods. That until the Stranger takes you, you will be at the other side, in spirit if not in flesh, and that your joy shall be hers, her sorrows your sorrows. That you shall serve as shield, provider, and lord to her, and that she shall serve as comfort, strength, and wife to you. IN the eyes of the gods let this oath ne'er be broken. Amen, So mote it be, L'chaim, Peace Be Upon Him, etc etc.

And then you kiss her, and the room erupts in applause.
>>
>>25606929

Great wedding!

Let's eat, drink, talk amongst the nobles before the bedding ceremony happens.
>>
>>25607001
Seconded.
>>
>>25607001
Yeah, then we afterwards we can tell all these people we don't know to get off our lawn.
>>
>>25606929
All in al, I think House Bordain has shown ourselves off rather well, I think, from this wedding.

We've shown off that we're worthy to have the royal family attend, shown our generosity, and a side of us that isn't just a vile monster.

All in all, I think this event will do wonders for our Influence, maybe a feat or something that grants us permanant, unspendable influence or something?

It's kinda hard to cash in "We had a huge wedding", and I would think that no matter how many favours we called in, that people wouldn't forget that that huge fucking wedding where he just *gave* those fantastic swords to everyone.

I also predict a sharp increase in demand for our weapons, maybe a permanant wealth boost since word will spread to all of fucking Westeros about our high quality steel.
>>
>>25607012
>>25607001

The following feast lasts a few hours, with your and your bride eating and drinking, speaking to family, speaking to guests... It's much like the first day of the tournament, except that the attitude is much more informal. You actally find it less difficult to pretend to care about Ser So-and-So of NoOneCares and his wishes for your happy future.
Your bard, Jonah, plays the song he's created to let the Seven Kingdoms know of your exploits, and it's simply fantastic! Much better than when you asked him to perform in your kitchen, it seems the added audience (as well as no small serving of mead) made him rise to the occasion. Some of the Lords and Ladies sing along, revealing that he's been dutiful in spreading your story across the Seven Kingdoms.

Lord Tollett perhaps drinks over much, and spends some time trying to convince you that, if properly tempered and balanced, you could conceivably make ships from Steel! It seems to require the ship be incredibly spacious, so you placate the poor drunk as best you can.
Finally, the night draws on, and the bedding ceremony begins. Jonah begins a new song, set close to the tune of "The Dornishman's Spear", "The IronLord's Pike" leaves little to be misinterpreted regarding exactly what it speaks of.

The ladies of the Vale, including your Liege's wife, Lysa Arryn, and Lady Belmore, set to stripping you as teh carry you up to your quarters, while Alyssa is hemmed in, (and unhemmed) by Lord Belmore, Petyr Baelish, Ser Staunton, and a variety of others, you're both carted up to your chambers, and tossed in, with the expectation that the Iron Lord's Pick not fail to plumb this vein.

Nor does it.

And so Lady Alyssa Tollett became Lady Alyssa Bordain. And the week-long festival came to a close.
>>
>>25607298

A ship made out of iron? Like some sort of... "Ironside"?

It's too crazy, it'll never work.
>>
>>25607298

> you could conceivably make ships from Steel!

>>25607298

>you could conceivably make ships from Steel!

What a mad drunk he is! Well time to makes heirs and keep the wife happy. We should see about making that road she wanted.
>>
>>25607345
Agreed. The very idea that Iron or steel could float is insane. Just look at what happens when you toss a nail into a bucket. It sinks. As too would this ship idea.
>>
>>25607345
Iron? Don't be ridiculous. Iron would rust, the ship would sink in a day!

>>25607346
Pic related is essentially how I picture lord Tollett, in terms of behavior. Looks wise, he's a little closer to...imagine a half-way point between Gaston and Snape.

IN ANY CASE
Your first order of business, beyond the cleaning of the grounds and resumption of normal production, is the hedge knights you wished to offer service. You have Egar gather them in the throne room, and you discover a whole 18 of noteworthy skill and resolve, including your mad hedge knight from the Melee, and your first opponent in the joust. And, if you're not mistaken, at least one water-dancer.

>Anything specific you wish to say, speak to any of them in particular?

>Gastion
Will he break out into song anytime soon about how many eggs he devours a day? If he does we really should warn him about cholesterol.

Anyway I would go simple and to the point we are interested in hiring them. Now why should we hire you specificly.
>>
>>25607482
Gentlemen, each of you has my thanks for your excellent displays of skill during the tournament to celebrate my wedding. Each of you has shown special talents with blade, bow, or lance. Talent enough to impress both myself, and those sworn to my service. Out of the hundreds who fought, you select few impressed enough to earn two rewards other than any you have already claimed this week. For each of you, I present a gift of a blade or weapon of your choice from my castles armory. Along with it, I offer you service, honorable service amongst my retainers. With time, that service will almost certainly lead to land, titles, and honors to call your own.

Even if you decide to decline my offer, the blades are yours in token if my and my dear wife's esteem.
>>
So when is Tywin expecting our reply? Shouldn't we get back to him soon? I propose that we become the hand of the current Hand first, than work our way up, becoming the Hand is something unfortunate happens to John Arryn.
>>

>>
>>25607652

I think we have until the wedding? Not sure.
>>
>>25607652
He said we should take our time and think it over. Not rush into it. He wanted us to get the marriage affairs in order and think before we decided.

>>
>>25607652

This is a big big question. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave us 6 or 7 months of time to think about this. So we should have time. Thinking though we should go for it and go the unofficial route. After all people can obliterate those in power but those unofficially in control? That is far harder.

>>25607781
As someone that has this happen a lot due to a screwy computer my advise is to save it on a notepad each time.
>>
>>25607652

I say we should try to do both things. Make friends with Robert and become the the hand of the Hand by earning Jon Arry trust a his capable banner men willing to deal with what ever he needs deal with.
>>
>>25607583
He's much more likely to sing about his miniature model of King's Landing, which he has been interrogating members of the royal contingent in order to improve.

Imagine a 50 year old Gaston, gone a little fat from all the red meat. With a more aquiline nose and longer hair.

You speak to the men

Good sers, I thank each of you for your excellent displays of skill during the tournament to honor my wedding. Each of you has shown talent enough to impress both myself, and my sworn captains.
Out of the hundreds who fought, you select few impressed enough to earn an additional reward, and an opportunity. For each of you, I present a gift of a blade or weapon of your choice from my castles armory. If you had such a gift from your conduct in the Melee, I will let you consult with my personal smith, and he will hone and shape your weapon to suit you specifically.
Further, I am looking to fill some positions amongst my retainers. With time, that service will almost certainly lead to land, titles, and honors to call your own. If this opportunity seems to your likely, convince me that I should hire you."

>>25607707
You have no REAL timeline. Tywin has told you to ponder the request, and write him with a decision.

>>
>>25607875

Honestly being hand of the king is a bad idea. Robert was right when he said "The king eats and the hand takes the shit." It is very public and anything that goes wrong is your fault not the kings of course.

I think we should go about this more subtly then flat out kings hand. Be friends with Jon Arryn, Place spies around kings landing, Buy bards to report back to us, Gain favors with nobles and gain friendships with people like willas. Going and directly becoming the Kings hand is a big Neon sign above us and leads to everyone watching us closer.
>>
>>25607892

The first man to speak is your first day's jousting opponent, Glenmond (pronounced Glem-on-d).
"Lord, you have felt my strength, and I yours in our match. Know that I am as the ox, uncomplaining, and with stamina to ride from here to the wall without sleep if need demands. I promise my service shall be as constant as the Wall itself."

The walking arsenal, a man known as Gulo Quickhatch, pushes him aside to make his claim.
"I am fit for your service, lord! I have heard you are a man of fierce temper, and crushing strength, and so my eye and arm is suited for your needs! There is no man half so ready to fight as I, and at a point of your hand, I would bring destruction upon your foes!"

An even, tapping interrupts the boasts of Gulo. A quick glance around the room reveals it comes from one of the waterdancers, who is tapping a cane against the ground.
"Are we children, we must shout and shove for recognition? I thought we were men," he looks to you. "Lord, you have strength, and fire, this has Hama seen. But you have little grace in your service, besides your beauteous lady wife. Hama shall show your enemies that a man may be smooth, as well as hard."

And so it continues, until about 12 of the 18 volunteer for your service with cases that you think noteworthy. 4 politely refuse, and the other two don't impress with their speeches.

>Hire them all?
>>
>>25607892

Hmm, do we really need more sworn swords? I men we already have lots of men around us doing nothing. We might as well put them to work. See if their are any lords fighting the hill tribes that lack the men to do so offer them a little help in the form of men are weapons at low payments for long time to make them easy to pay.

>>25608026

Hmm ok, lets work on getting closer to Lord Arryn. What a suggested previously might help up.
>>
>>25608103

Its easy to see what Glenmond and Gulo are all about. But how did Hama got the recommendation from one of our captains?
>>
>>25608103

I'd hire basically all of them. We already got good men with us so lets use these guys as patrollers for hillmen and send them out for tournaments to spread our name.
>>
>>25608103
Hire the 12. Thank the 6 and keep our promise.

And yeah, we do need them. These aren't soldiers, these are for the most part, knights. Which we, as a lord need as retainers. Also, they impressed us and our captains.

And knights, even landless knights can eventually become noble.
>>
>>25608255
While we can, and probably will end up granting land and such to those of our closest retainers, these men can be our next crop, and can each become another knights banner in time.

If we intend to do the tywin plan, we need to become more than a minor house. This is a good step in that direction.
>>
>>25608194
Hama, you learn from a whisper from Egar, was Grell's pick. Grell's only pick.

>>25608255
>>25608254
You nod, and hire the 12 who impressed you. thanking the other six for their time, and making arrangements that they can get their weapons.

Followign that business, you come to bidding the nobility farewell, and thanking them for their visit. It takes several hours, though it is not without its highlights. Robert thanks you for the invitation, and announces he'll need another tournament within the year, and he'll send a raven, for he wants to see you ride again. Arban passes his Jaime a bill for the wedding and tournament, for the Master of Coin to provide resititution for, as Robert promised.
Tywin is terse as ever, and bids you farewell, and wise choices.
Willas insists he will send you a raven, and hopes to face you again when he's a full knight.

What next?
>Personal farewell to family
>Invite family to stay awhile.
>Being making plans for conquest.
>Move to realm Management.
>Discuss Tywin's offer more openly with wife and maester
>Other!
>>
>>25608255

Yeah This. We have to expand our knight right now what is basically our knights are our best men. Men we know we can trust because we fought a war with them. Right now we need normal knights that we can toss at problems without always having to risk grell and our buddies.
>>
>>25608378
Family farewell. Then management.

Lets upgrade the bloodsmiths equipment to max. Mean only two wealth and spend maybe 5 or so wealth doing some upgrades for our other elites.

Get two foremen and maybe upgrade our goldmine.
>>
>>25608804
House action.

Expand town, we have plenty of wealth to force it, and we may be able to get a bit of a discount on some of the population needed from people sticking around following the tournament.

Other than that, I still vote for upgrading the shit out of the Bloodsmiths.
>>
>>25608804

>>25608975

>>

14, 1d6+6 for a grand tourney, plus 4 from your Bard's degrees of success.

>>25608853
I was going to answer, but instead I'll post pic related.
Although, I will point out that you could build 3 segments of Road for that.

>>25608889
you can only take one house action a month, sadly. So you could order ONE foreman.

Further, the transfer of resources is an action itself. So if you want to move wealth to make your town bigger, you have to move the wealth now, and bump the town next month.
>>
>>25609059

Go with the road then. Next month we can expand the town
>>
>>25608865
Right now? Your influence is roughly equal to "Hand of The King, Warden of (Insert area here) or royal. Note that having a first born son is 20 influence.
>>
>>25609059

Go for the Road!
>>
Yeah. Honestly guys I would rather get some foremans for cheap and let them add on to our wealth. Then start upgrading the town and stuff.
>>
>>25609059
Ok, I'm torn in between road or law. We certainly wouldn't want bandits on our roads.
>>
>>25609095

That's crazy, given the comparatively small amount of land we have.

I guess we are sort of being groomed by Tywin and are generally an influential man.
>>
How many roads can we build? What are the benefits/consequences? Does it connect us to Grey Glen?
>>
>>25609137

The system is pretty much broken went you go over 30 on anything.
>>
>>25609111
>>25609100
>>25609085
>>25609059

Road is nice, Law is nice, town is nice.

Bloodsmiths aren't a realm expenditure. However upgrading the law and wheedling our new father in law to spend some of his stuff in starting the road towards us on his side will give us a direction to build towards, and will help cement the two lands. Also, it integrates him with us further.
>>
>>25609176

And, if we do the law, that can be seen as a bonus from the tourney appearance wise. Then we go with road and town in the next two months, and it kind of fits. We drove away the lawlessness, began to expand, and have something to expand to.

We will also need to start focusing a bit more on lands soon as we do the expansion.
>>
>>25609176
You...are correct.
So you can upgrade your men and perform another action.
I will take a quick shower, as I have somewhere to be at 6, and will wrap up when I return. Right now, it looks like a debate between Law and starting the road.
(Note: Your law, while penalizing you, is "typical" for westeros. you would need to raise it to 41 for it to no longer penalize you.)
>>
>>25609243

Let's go with the road.
>>
>>25608725
Yeah, but we can trade in wealth for any other stat.
speaking of which, I want to trade Wealth for law, reinforce the law system and add some more magistrates or something.

Also I want 2 sets of Dreadnaught Armour, one for combat, and one designed around solely for jousting.
>The jousting version will try to maximise protection of the front, at expense of the sides and back, and the shape of the armour would be designed to deflect lance strikes head-on rather than the wide variety of blows that regular armour faces.

Robert wants us at another tourney, I want to go in with the best armour possible.

What should we buy with our Land?
>>
Looking at upgrades. The final mine upgrade costs 45 wealth. Goddamn man that is enough to bankrupt most houses.
>>
>>25609243

Yik. If we have to burn that high to get no penalty, then the hell with it. Road.
>>
>>25609289

Also we don't want to spend all our money at once. Lets try to save some in case we have a problem.
>>
>>25609289

And this is why, with our money making machine, I keep suggesting we ALWAYS put something into wealth. We spend it like it's going out of style, roads, towns, maesters, mines, etc etc etc, all of it takes wealth, and a lot of it. Sure we get more coming in, but it's about 3-5 at a time, and we blow things like 45 at a time.

That's why I always suggest we go with something that will boost our wealth, so that eventually we can come close to breaking even even with a hefty expenditure.
>>
>>25609294
Well, we can gain 10 law this turn, then put a 1d3 into it the next few months. A good law will be beneficial in the long run.

I vote for 10 influence into law.
>>
>>25609336
Not only that, but it converts into *any other stat* at a 2:1 ratio if you don't mind waiting a couple months.

It's so goddamn useful, if we didn't roll so good on stats, I'd be bitching right now.
>>
>>25609367
Seconded.
>>
>>25609336

That's typically why I go for money doublers as well. Those things stack so a fully upgraded mine is just ridiculous.
>>
>>25609405
>>25609367

Alright, I feel these tipped the votes, and if not, my apologies, but I really should have left about 10 minutes ago. I assure you, we have time to address everyone's desires.

Probably.

After the Tournament, you send a few ravens out, and flex some of your capital, to get magistrates in Belmore and Grey Glen to come down harder on thieves they find. You appoint men to inspector-ships and other jobs of oversight.
By the end of the month, you've made great strides in bringing order to your lands.

New stats:
Influence 51
Law 35.

Now that you have brought order to your own home, however, it's time you turn your eye to the Seven Kingdoms at large.
DUN DUN DUN!

Alright guys, that's all for today.

The big one was, of course Oberyn Martell, who had a couple options. He could have: fouled your gear, poisoned you, or just straight up run you through if he got lucky when jousting you.

Another one, which would have been a much slower death would have been mismanagement of Tywin. If you had like, spat in his face, you would have basically started a shadow war.

The final one was a potential enemy in the Grand Melee, if you had chosen to participate in that instead of the joust. You'd have learned about him early on, so the days leading up to it could build, and so it wouldn't just be "day two: So and so won.
