You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

Back, and all better, turns out it wasn't a Phoenix Empire poisoned food plot, just a stomach bug.

You went back to your second home of Stone Hall, after a fruitful talk with Old One, and the harpies. Bronze Peak is doing well, and stabilizing the economy, they've already seen the upcoming old shortage and are making plans to counter it.

You traveled back home, with the former Lightbringer known as Ava in tow. You brought her so that she could talk to Adahn, and hopefully make him see a bit more reason.

As she and he had a private conversation, you interrogated the Phoenix Empire spy, Cai Wei Zhu some more. You found out a few interesting tidbits. Someone from the Citadel Kingdom is working with the Kingfisher, they have a base to the south on this continent, and that there's Phoenix spies in White Tree and Purple Sands, at least.

You also tried to talk once more to the boy who attacked you during the early days of the new Stone Hall. One of the Purist Riders, a person guilty of murdering lizard people, and assaulting others, possibly human murder too. He was still unrepentant. Claiming that his crimes were the result of unfair enforcement about integration with people he didn't want to be part of. That he was a justified victim of society.

And so, you allowed Paladin Avery to take the boy to the yard to meet the headsman's axe.
>>

It's been a busy couple of months after that. Your availability has been severely reduced. If it's not something about re-establishing the new kingdom that requires a Paladin's presence/signature, then it's Granny. She often needs your help in coaching the monsters that you rescued from the Grove of Joy. Speaking properly, table manners, and how to understand that there's a difference between 'pretending to be a human' and 'being yourself, but not being a menace to society.' Trips to Bronze Peak to check on the harpies/money situation are at least every two weeks.

Every day there's just more and more busy work. Plus the others are occupied as well. Lea is working with Ambrose, Gregory, and Adahn putting together the plan to create the Schola Nitor, the Caligo Clarus' long term gift to society.

Mage is working with Sophie and the other remaining magic users in the city to help re-establish their connection with magic. The progress is good, but annoyingly slow.

Mari and Peri are working on the soul stones that you stole from Tragedy. Seeing which ones are sane, and which ones that need to be released onto The Journey.

Tricia is always at your side though, and a welcome extra pair of hands/pincers she is. Still, it's hard to make a dent in all the slow, boring, work that you have to do.

Finally one day, you're all called up to the Manor Hall. Apparently his Audaciousness has something he needs to say. He's organized a big public speech today, but he's called for you a few hours before it begins.
>>
You're early, welcome back Echo.
>>
>>25605951
I know, but I'd rather do this that stare at a wall semi-doped on medicine.
>>
Oh shit, an early lamia quest! Cancel everything, baton down the hatches, prepare for Isening!

I am sad to hear you are still sick echo, but I love to hear you're running the quest.
>>
>>25606027
Tis better than staring at the wall while sober.
>>
Well, big public speech today, huh?

We should get our armor polished up. Also check in on Adahn's progress, and perhaps get that manifesto copied a few times in case ours bursts into flames. We'll edit those copies for spelling and then publish the full thing after.

Also, sorry about the early archival, it's either that or some troll mistags.
>>
Lamia Quest! And at a time when I can actually participate without staying up until 5am or worse! Awesome.

Let's go see what His Audaciousness wants, then...
>>
>>25605889
"Ssen, guys. Thanks for coming." He smiles and waves at you. Instantly you know something's wrong.

First it's been six seconds and he hasn't hit on you.

Second, he's wearing his frilly shirt and fancy silk doublet.

Third, he's actually wearing the royal circlet that he carried around with him.

Finally, it's been ten seconds in and he hasn't made a pass at any of you.

"I've had nightmares about this day." He sighs. He points at a stack of papers on the desk. "That's it, all the little fishing villages, the Coral Gate settlers and mer, and Bronze Peak and the smaller mountain towns that I didn't even know existed." He shakes his head. "The new council has ratified it all...and...yeah. A kingdom united, all accepting me as their leader." He just stares at the papers for a while. "I guess being a Runaway King isn't as impressive as being a Runaway Rebel Prince. Is it?"
>>
Oh man, I keep being one thread behind when a new one pops up.

I'll rush through the last one I guess
>>
>>25606350
>Also, sorry about the early archival, it's either that or some troll mistags.

Thanks. Personally I take it as a badge of honor, especially that last troll tag. Kinda sad I've never seen the Paladin threads that you guys have been in. But I don't wanna feed 'em.
>>
>>25606398
"I think Runaway King is an upgrade, it implies more power. Are you okay, you've yet to hit on any of us yet and as much as it is appreciated it is quite unnerving"
>>
>>25606398
"Yeah, but they'll have to put your face on coins now. Someone's going to find those in a treasure hoard a thousand years from now and think 'Who was this dashing bravo of a king? And what happened to his nose?' "
>>
>>25606398
>ten seconds and Isen hasn't hit on us
He must really be terrified.
>>
>>25606398
"What, are you kidding? If a prince rides a flaming boat into a wave of cannon fire, he's barely a historical footnote. If a KING does it, he'll be remembered forever for his foolhardy bravery. You're moving on up!"
>>
>>25606461
what I'm wondering is HOW LONG this will go without him hitting on us.

I'm keeping a timer.
>>
>>25606449
no, don't bring this up.

I want to see HOW LONG it takes for him to get to it on his own.

for science.
>>
"I think Runaway King is an upgrade, it implies more power. If a prince rides a flaming boat into a wave of cannon fire, he's barely a historical footnote. If a KING does it, he'll be remembered forever for his foolhardy bravery. You're moving on up!

"Plus, they'll have to put your face on coins now. Someone's going to find those in a treasure hoard a thousand years from now and think 'Who was this dashing bravo of a king? And what happened to his nose?'

Anyway, are you okay, you've yet to hit on any of us yet and as much as it is appreciated it is quite unnerving."

"Hard to think about sex when you think you're about three steps away from throwing up." He shakes his head. "Also, they want me to go out there and say something impressive, and for the first time in my life...I got nothing. Fuck, I don't even know what to call this thing. New Citadel seems...bad. I want to keep away from that as possible, but I have NO idea."

He shrugs. "Anyway, I wanted to have a paladin stand beside me when I gave the speech, show I'm on His Light's good side...I hope...and a monster too to show that I'm cool with all these new species coming out of the old lady's school...and...well...everyone knows about the Serpent's tongue and her speeches...so...any ideas?"
>>
>>25606562
"Do i get to make puns?"
>>
>>25606562
"Wait, you're asking me for naming suggestions? I named our wagon 'Wagon' and our horse 'Lightmare'. The only idea I've got is to name the place 'Kingdom'. Maybe 'New Kingdom' or something."
>>
>>25606599
More like leviathan jokes.
>>
>>25606601
Ha! Really Isen... we're bad at this game. Unless we get to do this >>25606599
>>
>>25606562
"I will give you the secret to my speeches: wing it. Worst that can happen is you start a rebellion and get shot to death. Oh, and do try to have some talking points. Citadel is gone but we remain, banding together to form a new kingdom of propserity and light, getting through the hard times to produce a better tommorrow, that kind of thing. And most importantly-

Never ask me for advice with names."
>>
>>25606657

This. Seconded.
>>
>>25606562
What's Lamia for "City"? And does it roll well off the tongue?
>>
>>25606611
"We could always name the place lim[s->1] (s-1) sigma [n=1...infinity] n^(-s) , but I don't think that rolls off the tongue very well..."
>>
>>25606753
haha, go with this.
>>
We should also remind Isen that we killed the last person who hated our puns
>>
>>25606821
shit we did, didn't we? That's not going to look good on our resume.
>>
>>25606847
We killed her girlfriend in from of her first.

I think the PE is on to something about the who snake thing
>>
>>25606864

>>
>>25606864
well, perhaps we should illegalize lamia comedians once we do more research on this subject. For everyone's sake.

Also, I want to sneak into the cai's cell at night and play whist and PE cardgames with her. Mostly because I want new PE games to play.
>>
"Do I get to make puns?"

"I don't want to start a riot...or mass suicide." He says.

"We did kill the last person who hated our puns. Also, I named our wagon 'Wagon' and our horse 'Lightmare'. The only idea I've got is to name the place 'Kingdom'. Maybe 'New Kingdom' or something.

"But if you insist, we could always name the place lim[s->1] (s-1) sigma [n=1...infinity] n^(-s) , but I don't think that rolls off the tongue very well..."

Isen looks at you and shakes his head. "I doubt that titling our kingdom after a math equation is hardly something that the people want." He pause. "Are you SURE Isenopolis isn't acc-"

"NO." The entire Dawnchaser group says.

"Alright," He sighs. "I was think about the Free Kingdom...but that's a bit...meh. Liberty's okay, but I'm not a fan. Any other similar simple words that you think might work? Something that says that any being can make a life here? Tara says that she doesn't like Menagerie, and Mumei only has Phoenix words."
>>
We should name it <Kingdom> Kingdom
>>
>>25606938

The Unified Kingdom?

The United City-States?
>>
>>25606938
okay, let's give a SERIOUS THINK to this name, because he asked us even though we told him explicitly it was a bad idea. Do one of those stare-at-him-for-a-few-minutes things Ssen does sometimes.
>>25606942
"<kingdom> Kingdom"? Not... the worst. I rate it not-the-worst out of 10.

All I can think of is nonsense words, like calderia, or aluminor, or rithoovia.
>>
Sine-nomine
>>
The united people's kingdom?

UPK for short? I mean, we're running a whole representative-of-every-place kingdom.
>>
>>25606978
The Unified Kingdom or the United Kingdom would work fine. The United City-States seems to imply we're not going to be expanding outside of the cities and their environs, whereas I thought the eventual plan was to bring the whole continent together?
>>
>>25605879
>turns out it wasn't a Phoenix Empire poisoned food plot, just a stomach bug
That's what they want you to think. They're just not very good at poisonings.

Etrusca. Assir. Sumia. Cushpolis. Mizraim. Thessus. Cyre. Cappodia.
Just throwing out random things that could be names because descriptive names suck, especially if the kingdom outlives its description.

Point. But I do want to have some sort of appropriate unifying symbol, preferably that doesn't revolve around us, Isen, or Stone Hall.

>>25607119
we should change it slightly if we go with that to unified kingdom.

I couldn't deal with just straight up being the brits.

Erm... should have put that as {Cageless} Kingdom, it sounds better.

>>25607258
Only if we get to be Ssen the Chimerian.

>monster brits VS not-china
Any educated man should hate this idea!

So why do I FEEL this way...
>>
"Etrusca. Assir. Sumia. Cushpolis. Mizraim. Thessus. Cyre. Cappodia. Unified Kingdom, United People's kingdom, the Chimera Commonwealth?" You toss out rapid fire.

"The Chimera Commonwealth..." Isen says. He leans his head back and forth. "It would make for a badass flag. Eh, nah, how about the United Free Kingdom?" He nods. "We'll go with that, and then pretend that it was our idea from the start." He frowns.

"I'm king, so every choice I make is ultimately going to be the Right choice...but BEFORE I make any choice. I want you to always make sure I doubt and try to think before hand. Then, afterwards, when I do say...I dunno...the flag will be blue with brown highlights...it WONT by the way...then I need you to back me 100%, okay? I've read up enough on how the old Tribe Lords and Raider Chiefs that were successful worked. Doubt then Certainty. Sound good?"
>>
>>25607308
Don't want to be Brits, want to something of our own.
>>
>>25607331
"yep"
>>
>>25607308
To be honest, I'd love it to be the UK, we don't have to 'be the brits', but I think it's rather fitting as aname.
>>
>>25607331
"Blue with brown highlights?"
Make a note to never let Isen color-coordinate anything but his own clothing ever again.Anyone who could think of that combination, even purposely wanting a bad one, must be unable to even see colors.
>>
>>25607331
"That'll work, just take the time to think things over."

"I can also get Lea to sock you if you ever make a dumb decision- it's done wonders for me."
>>
>>25607331
if its going to be a flag of everyone it needs to have elements of everyone, like a solid blue flag with two sets of rings, and small emblems of each race between the rings, a leaf, a hammer, a scale, a claw, a leaf, and a hand, and within a crown,

if we want to have a flag showing everyone is unified, we stick a big fat angry chimera on there.
>>
"That'll work, just take the time to think things over.

"I can also get Lea to sock you if you ever make a dumb decision- it's done wonders for me."

Isen smiles and winks at you all. "Only if she lets me pick the safeword before hand."

"I usually go with 'honeycomb' actually." Lea says without skipping a beat.

Isen blinks for a few seconds, then his face breaks into a huge smile. "Oh, Sexy Scales, you've been hiding so many secrets from me!" She gestures for you and the Dawnchasers to follow him out to the balcony. You just KNOW he's going to try and pinch you where your waist meets your tail...again.

Four minutes twenty six seconds.
>>
>>25607415
So something like a chimera, with a Serpent head, body of leaf fur, front hands of a human holding a hammer, back legs of a bird, and tail of a fish/mer? Wearing a crown obvbiously
>>
>>25607427
Go along. Try to be polite and happy to the crowd, but be sure that you wave less than the king does.
>>
>>25607427
My god, that's an Isen record - far more prestigious than a world record, to him at least.

>>
>>25607484

Because Kingdom Hearts is light!
>>
I feel bad putting the weight for speechwriting on echo. I also feel paranoid about doing it, since last time we did this HIS was revealed to be... not so good.
>>
"No sense we can't PUT a chimera on out flag. Well, let's go see the people." You say.

"Oh, Sexy Scales, where would I be without you...dead on a dance floor." He sighs.

You step out and look at a large crowd of men, women, dwarves, elves, lamia, naga, minotaur, mer, lizard and probably one or two more species you haven't kept track of yet. Your people, the future, the males, females, and others of...

"THE UNITED FREE KINGDOMS!" Isen shouts. "That is what we are! We are one nation, one people, one purpose...and that purpose is that each and every...being...in our lands, who steps upon OUR coast, is FREE. Free to pursue their dream, Free to be as great as they can, free to the same hopes, dignities, and respect due to any! For too long we have been coddled like children, given easy answers and never told to question. We were told that others knew best, and that there was no need for us to leave our cribs. To that, I say NO MORE!

We are strong! We are mighty! We are a unified group that will be greater than ANY could imagine, and I will be there to lead you to that brilliant future! Just as I stand beside one of the greatest Paladins known to our land."

He gestures to you.

"The road will be filled with challenges. There are things in this world that will want to see us fail, that will test us, and push us, they do not believe in the idea that mer can stand next to lizard who can stand next to human who can stand next to lamia. They would see us ALL as savage monsters...and I say...we shall face EACH and EVERY one of these challenges..and PREVAIL! We will SHOW them of our greatness and OUR kingdom will last a HUNDRED ages...your children's decendants will look upon these lands, and they will know that HERE, NOW, the world changed for the better and it was by OUR hands that it was done. LONG LAST TO THE UNITED FREE KINGDOMS! TRIUMPH TO THE CHIMERA OF THE FUTURE!"

And the crowd erupts into cheers.

You and Isen go back inside. Isen frowns. "Too much? Not enough?"
>>
>>25607727
"It was adequate. Usually you can tell by the crowd reaction, you know."
>>
>>25607727
"Not bad King Isen, Not bad at all."
>>
>>25607727
"You know, I've never been able to make a crowd cheer.

"You did good your Audaciousness."
>>
>>25607727
"And here you thought you'd make a bad king. No such luck, my friend, you're stuck with the job!"
>>
>>25607854
I'd add something on to this like "Don't worry, you've been there for us, we'll be here for you"
Being a king was his biggest fear after all
>>
"You know, I've never been able to make a crowd cheer.

Dissent, question, abandon authority maybe. But never cheer." You pat Isen on the back. "Not bad King Isen, not bad at all ,your Audaciousness."

Isen sighs and tosses his crown on the table. "No, when I'm wearing that stupid in or dressed like this, I'm King Itzak. When I get out of these stupid clothes and back to work, THEN I'm Isen the Audacious." He shrugs. "Well, I guess I at least beat all the other Itzaks in my family line. This'll be WAY more than just a paragraph." He smiles at you. "Thanks, Sexy Scales. Holy fuck," He starts to laugh. "We started a fucking Kingdom."
>>
>>25607727
Bravo, Isen, bravo. You did really well.
>>
>>25607924
"I'm always going to call your your Audaciousness."
>>
>>25607924
"Quite an audacious move."
>>

>>25607924
"we're already working on the history books, your audaciousness."
>>
>>25608010
nope. not resolved at all.

It's gonna be a problem! I hope to consult lea and mari and ambrose about it.
>>
>>25607924
"All in a days work!"

Then go right back to being fucking exhausted.

Why is it we shit miracles and kingdoms, but we still can't provide mage with a day off and a plate of sweet potatoes?
>>
>>25608076
Because we use up all those days off shitting miracles and kingdoms. Duh.
>>
"We're already working on the history books, your audaciousness." You say.

"Yeah, that Schola thing. He nods and sits down and drums his fingers. "I had an idea about that. You talked to Toll last night right, how Her Ignorant Self is starting up White Tree as a theocracy of the Pure?" He shakes his head. "Stupid bitch...well, at least she doesn't want to go to war. Or I think Billings at least doesn't want to go to war." He points to some scrolls. "I've already got some trade requests from him. Fish for grain, iron and bronze for cows...also they're trying out paper money since they don't have the metal for coins. Heh, poor dumb bastards."Anyway, I think your little group is how we can slightly reinstate the Paladin Orders."

"We can't make any new Paladins, nothing saying we can't use your new order to make a scholatic branch, and a combat branch." He shrugs. "The charter of the Caligo Clarus states that, as long as you don't take funding or people from the other Occuli you can do as you will."
>>
>>25608076
forget about mage, when is Ssen gonna have the opportunity to take a day off and sunbathe on a nice, warm rock, huh?
>>
>>25608139
"Seems like a good idea. Having most of the chapter running around in one group seemed a bit silly."
>>
>>25608139
"Ah, expoiting loopholes. Is there any sweeter thing in life?"
>>
>>25608206
Puns?
>>
>>25608206
>>25608213
What's even sweeter is using puns as exploitable loopholes.
>>
>>25608139
"Oh my, I don't think the remains of my stippend will cover several orders.

In all seriousness, that sounds fine. We'll need to figure out a way of vetting people that doesn't involve me spending all my time doing it, though, because I obviously won't have the time."
>>
>>25608213
Touché.

But exploiting loopholes is pretty high up there.
>>
>>25608139
...so as long as the combat branch doesn't recruit existing Occuli members, just people in training or say, the odd adventurer we'd be fine?

It could work, using more experienced adventurers and mercenaries as sergeants for up and coming groups of trainees. (After property vetting them of course.) They could help teams learn the ropes when in the field and give the benefit of experience.
>>
>>25608139
"I was planning on talking to the king about something like that, long ago, yes. I guess I just took a roundabout way of getting an appointment.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind it. We'd be able to get the scholars to much more dangerous places if we had a dedicated fighting branch, and while unpleasant, there's probably military... things that need to be done. I'll ask Uncle about that, I think. Though, I'll never be able to cover all that on my regular tithe. Am I supposed to be getting pay for my occuli from the crown or church or something? Mage and tricia don't really train folks, since mages and druids are raaare. They could perhaps act as training obstacles.
>>
>>25608228
"I was planning on talking to the king about something like that, long ago, yes. I guess I just took a roundabout way of getting an appointment. You see, I don't think the remains of my stipend will cover several orders."

Isen nods. "Well, we'll look at that at the next treasury meeting." He groans.

"To be honest, I wouldn't mind it. We'd be able to get the scholars to much more dangerous places if we had a dedicated fighting branch, and while unpleasant, there's probably military... things that need to be done. I'll ask Uncle about that, I think.

"In all seriousness, that sounds fine. We'll need to figure out a way of vetting people that doesn't involve me spending all my time doing it, though, because I obviously won't have the time."

"Oh, and speaking of money, I remember something about switching to alloy coins instead of pure gold, and that I should mention it to you. So yeah, we're not going to be 100% gold standard any more."

He nods. "Yeah, I remember. It's not a bad idea, people can use the coins and we keep the gold safe. They can exchange the coins FOR gold if they want...provided that they never ask." He shrugs. "Rachel says that it's economics in its truest form. I say it's us once more charging and screaming into nation building, not knowing what in the Myriad Darknesses we're supposed to be doing."

"Anyway, next order of business." He holds up another scroll and tosses it to you. "Mab, Maxine, whoever she is, sent a letter. She wants to open up First Wood again and sign a treaty with us. She wants you, your crew, and Julian to go hammer out the details."

You read it, it's what Isen said. But there's also a bit about 'discussion of the possibility of recreations during this diplomatic meeting, a pagent, or a hunt, or engage in a rare birding expedition.'

Not exactly subtle what THAT means.

"The spy we have fingered spies in Citadel and First Wood, but I've not heard of any military action yet." You say.

"Well, I think we let our spy cool her heels a little more. Then try her for espionage, and attempted murder." He nods. "That's enough to keep her for life...or she can choose to lose her hands. Old rules. I'm not exactly going to push for THAT one." He shudders.

"As for the Empire. I have Barney working on plans for those black power weapons, so if need be we can organize a quick militia, along with the ones who can actually fight." He shakes his head. "But we're in no position to go looking for a fight. If you can get the Fey Court to find and harass the Empire so they get to be a priority target as opposed to us...that would be better." He shrugs. "But from what little we can get, they don't care about us, they care about the Citadel Egg...and I don't know if that's a relief or a concern."

>THERE ARE SNAKES THAT FLY

We have GOT to figure this out. Especially since we're more venomous and spiky than Chrysopelea. The Phoenix Empire will lay bricks once they see a snake that flies while hissing "{The skies are not safe!}"

Plus it could lead to all sorts of fun shenanigans while we practice.

"Ssen, what has gotten into you?!"

"Look, Tricia, one of us has got to be the flyer, and we've established that you're probably not going to get wings. And let's be honest, this is not the dumbest thing I've ever done."

"I'm sure recognizing their king joining the revelry would be a nice morale-booster." You say.

Isen shrugs. "Yeah, but then people get weirded out that they're with the king. It's not like some giant secret that I'm Itzak and Isen both. Prince Itzak was in his chambers in deep contemplation and planning for his new kingdom. Isen the Audacious was out there among his people, tripping over his own feet as he tried to dance a mer ritual dance. He grins. "Now go, I'll catch up."

"I'll wait outside then." You say.

You head out, and the other Dawnchasers are waiting.

"It looks fun." Tricia says. "There's a bonfire, a wine cask, and a lot of dancing."

"Then let us off to the event!" You shout.

"So," Lea says as she looks over the First Wood summons. "Looks like Maxine found an empire spy too...that's disconcerting."

"How'd they get in?" Tricia asks. "Thought it was elves only now."

Peri shrugs. "Well, elves come in a lot of skin tones." She gestures to her own skin. "So, if they have the ears and the slender hands or a few other features close enough they could pass as half or quarter."

"But how do they get...Jeremy's appearance surgeries." Mage snaps his fingers. "That'll beat an illusion any time."

"Plus if you're in the Fey Court, scars are easy to explain." Peri nods.

"More Kingfisher scouts then?" Lea asks.

"I dunno," Peri says. "It depends on how they were caught and what blew their cover. That they were caught at all is suspicious."

"Do we have to worry about White Tree?" Tricia asks.

"It depends on if it's BIllings or Her Idiotic Self, sorry Lea, that's running things." Mari says. "Billings is a racist prick, but he's smart enough to want peace between us. Her Illuminated Self is better...but she's not the sharpest arrow in the quiver."

"Eh, worse comes to worse, we'll send in Mage as a Honey Trap." Peri says.

In case you're serious, fireworks are pyrotechnic devices (rockets) that are launched into the air and explode, making lots of noise. Modern fireworks include materials that do nifty things, like throw off colored sparks, send off little "screamers", explode into flower shapes, and so on. In America, they are commonly used on the Fourth of July (celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, in which we formally, er, declared our independence from the United Kingdom) and New Year's Eve.

"Where's the danger?" Lea asks.

"Danger?" Mumei asks confused. She giggles a little. "What danger? I am celebrating our new kingdom. I had {Gifted Nest Maker} Pits put these together." She gestures to her flares. "They aren't as pretty as the ones back home, but I like them."

Peri turns to look at you. "I am SO sorry."

Mumei lights another and launches it. It explodes in a burst of green and blue fire. She claps her hands and cheers.

You suck in your breath and hold back a long string of curses. Then you sigh, and shake your head. "I suppose this is better than a hostage situation. You had us worried!" You say as you coil up in the sand. No sense not watching the rest of Mumei's show. "But, I'll take false alarm over real danger any day of the week."

Mumei giggles and nods. "Sorry, I forgot you use these as flares." She lights another one. This one is a brilliant silver.

"How'd you make them different colors?" Mage asks.

"Oh, school children make these for fun, you use different salts and stone powders." She smiles.

"So...the Phoenix Empire has Black Powder?" Mari asks.

Mumei nods. "Yes. Ohh, now what this one. It's going to make a HUGE BOOM!" She goes into a fit of giggles.

"You are drunk." Peri says. "Sure it's safe to be playing with this stuff?"

She waves Peri off. "I've been doing this for ages, and sea wine is nothing compared to proper rice wine from home."

"What's rice?" Mage asks.

"It's a grain." Mari says. "Hard to grow here."

"Ah." Mage nods and covers his ears.

You wince at the explosion, and In th light you see it. You wouldn't have been able to see it from the party, but you see a small boat, very low in the water, creeping up the shore. Your heat and magic vision pick up a bunch of little glows...and it's headed towards the prison.

That's...weird. You're pretty sure those cliffs are worn sheer and covered in algae, also, the walls of the prison are all Second Age masonry, smooth white stone, maybe there's a little plaster here and there, but free climbing that, let ALONE the cliffs, would be a very very tricky feat.

The guy actually manages to dodge the fist swipe but the second one hits him on his other side.

He staggers back. It's obvious that the Black is making him loopy. You're a little surprised that he can still stand.

Tricia's stinger arm lunges from out of her robes, and Lea goes for a funky looking spinning leg sweep. Lamia style again, copying your tail whip, but faster due to having less...tail.

The guy dodges Tricia's jab, and jumps over Lea's sweep. He's not prepared for her to spin around so fast so he lands and lea's heel slams into his wounded side. Hard. He drops to his knees.

Then he grabs something off his belt and throws it onto the ground.

It looks like a small little clay soldier, painted blue.

You make a grab for the soldier. It's growing as you lunge for it, using quick-quick, and it's heavy, and for some reason really really, hand-burningly, cold.

So you need a mix of strength and endurance to chuck the thing far enough and keep your grip on it despite the freezing pain.

>>25614361
yes, he is. We really need to put him down. punch him or something.
>>
>>25614351
oh fuck.
>>
>>25614314

GOD DAMN BATMEN!

He's going to use another magic item. Put a claw to his throat.

{Move again, and I will reincarnate you.{
>>
>>25614351
You know THAT explosion.

"MOTHER FUCKING CRYSTAL MAKING BITCH-FUCK-WHORE!" You hear Peri scream. "DIE!"

Your turn.
>>
>>25614399
yeah. do this. they probably know we speak phoenix anyway from encoded messages.

Threaten time. Since seriously, this next poison dose will PROBABLY kill you guy, don't make us use it.
>>
>>25614414
Sleeper hold
>>
Rolled 7

>>25614414
Sleeper hold
>>
>>25614414
Sleeper hold NOW. Put this guy out of it.
>>
>>25614414
claw to his throat
{If you move again, you die.}
>>
>>25614414

Sleeper hold.

No claw. No Black. Chances are he'll be more useful to us later and alive.
>>
>>25614414
SLeeper hold.
>>
Rolled 20

>>25614451
>>25614446
>>25614430

You lunge at the spy and attempt to put him in a sleeper hold.

He keep on trying to fiddle with something while being held in your coils.

Roll 1d20, you'll get him down on a 9 or better.
>>
>>25614503
Especially since Peri doesn't seem to be too keen on keeping her spy alive
>>
Rolled 15

>>25614512
Fuck this guy
>>
Rolled 13

>>25614512
>>
Rolled 8

>>25614512
>>
>>25614525
>>25614534
>>25614535
thats that then
>>
>>25614512
Oh god I hope that 20 wasn't him.
>>
>>25614525
>Fuck this guy

Tricia would kill us.

Pretty sure it would get info from him and fuck with his head something awful though.
>>
Rolled 14, 7, 3, 15, 7 = 46

>>25614535
>>25614534
>>25614525
Okay, so he goes limp and out cold in your arms.

Just...one problem, you feel one...no...two lums withing your coils, they're getting bigger, and one of them is VERY very hot! The other is heavy as a rock.

(Oh, crit 20s, how I love thee)

You also notice that the terracotta elemental hasn't slowed or stopped.

Tricia and Lea are still in combat with it.
>>
>>25614574
unwrap with haste!
>>
>>25614574
........ Two more of these fucking things. Can we tail-throw them off the wall in time?
>>
>>25614574
goddamnit this is becoming a clusterfuck

Uncoil now and attempt to tip those still-growing warriors off a wall. Terra-cotta is highly vulnerable to falls.
>>
Rolled 7, 11, 1 = 19

>>25614574
The elemental is on his last legs, most of the clay is gone, and elementals need either a core or a shell to keep consistent physical form.
>>
Rolled 12

>>25614574
Drop it like it's hot, which it is
>>
Rolled 17

>>25614574

Humph. Pull him out of the coils, then squeeze like we're making gravy. Problem solved.
>>
>>25614574
toss the hot lump at the terracotta elemental
>>
>>25614609
Point - can we squeeze these things hard enough to crack their shells?
>>
Rolled 11, 12 = 23

>>25614603
You hear the sound of something shattering from the inner prison.
"MAGE GET DOWN!"
>>
>>25614609
Lets not push whatever is in our coils into our coils
>>
>>25614627
I like this idea
>>
>>25614633
"PERI!" You hear Mage yell.

Your turn!
>>
>>25614648
Unwrap NAOW!!!!! Srsly we dun need to die.
>>
Rolled 16

>>25614648
Toss the hot lump at the ice elemental.
>>
>>25614648
throw the elementals off the cliff
>>
>>25614574
Get them over the wall fast, hopefully aim for the boat, heavy as a rock one falls in boat, no more boat.
>>
>>25614648
Chuck the rocks at the elemental
>>
>>25614648
Tricia get to them now!
>>
>>25614648
Okay, here's the scenario. Right now you have two terracotta elemental activating in your coils, one fire, and one earth, the spy is also in your coils. You can uncoil as a free action, but I'll tell you now, no way the spy will survive being crushed between two statues and your coils.
>>
>>25614680
Chuck the golems out before they activate?
>>
>>25614680
Well he is unfortunately dead. Nothing we could do., Uncoil and throw everything over the edge
>>
>>25614680
uncoil and smash the statues with clang
>>
>>25614666
>>25614663
>>25614595
You want to try and uncoil quick as a flash and shove the activating terracotta elementals off the ledge. This will be harder than just the water one, as there's two of then, the earth is heavy as hell and the fire one is...on fire. It'll be easier if you just pick one to ditch over the side.
>>
>>25614713
Only if we don't let go
>>
>>25614722
What about using clang to smash them?
>>
>>25614722
ditch earth, over the side, hopefully it'll hit the boat
>>
>>25614712
That would require chucking EVERYTHING over the side including the spy. Hes blacked out due to both sleeper hold AND the Black so he will drown.
Uncoil and attempt to throw the elementals over the side.
>>
>>25614722
Throw the fire one into the water.
>>
>>25614722
If we have to pick one go with the fire.

Because fuck fire.
>>
Rolled 10

>>25614722
Pitch the fire one over the side.
>>
>>25614740
fire would work too, we can't fight fire so easily without mage
>>
>>25614751
>>25614756
No pitch the earth one over it cant swin. Shove the fire one at the water one. Destroy both of them.
>>
>>25614722
ditch the earth one.

We can convince the fire and ice ones to crash into each other to explode.
>>
>>25614722
Ditch the fire one. Earth will hopefully be slow as well as heavy, hence easier to wrap and crush.
>>
>>25614767
well, unless we pitch the earth one over the side and try and force the water one onto the fire one
>>
>>25614750
>>25614751
>>25614756
Alright, you can push the fire one over, and you can use Clang to help with it.

Roll 3d20 to hit target.
>>
Rolled 20, 7, 18 = 45

>>25614777
Oh, thats a great idea.

>>25614790
Quick, change to Earth.
>>
Rolled 5, 19, 18 = 42

>>25614790
Sod this soding thing
>>
>>25614783
I don't think we can crush a rock. plus this one's solid, can't destroy it without breaking it into pieces
>>
Rolled 2

>>25614777
too clever by half. What if Trica and Lea kill the ice one while we push the rock one over the side?
>>
Rolled 20, 5, 5 = 30

>>25614790
>>
Rolled 18, 14, 3 = 35

>>25614790
>>
Rolled 18, 20, 10 = 48

>>25614790

HEAVE!
>>
>>25614797
Earth would be a different roll most likely.
>>
>>25614797
>>25614811
WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THESE 20S
>>
Rolled 7, 5, 1 = 13

>>25614790
>>25614801
what he said
>>
Rolled 5, 6, 13 = 24

>>25614790
Change to earth do it.
>>
Guys, they're fucking golems.

Let's grab the guy and go, they'll stand around confused like idiots.
>>
i wonder if we will hit the boat.

I vote get rid of the fire one if that still matters.
>>
Rolled 4

>>25614797
It's already been decided man.
>>
>>25614838
They seem to be fairly independent, given that the guy hasn't given them any specific orders we've seen and the ice one's still fighting after he's been knocked out.
>>
>>25614831
Earth would be easier to fight
>>
I wonder...

{STAND DOWN}
>>
>>25614856
It occurs to me that the guy at the boat might get a bit steamed for his troubles
>>
Rolled 11, 5, 18, 7 = 41

>>25614797
You shove the other one over the side, leaving the spy unconscious on the ground.

You look over, you see the warrior smash to pieces against the cliff rocks and the fire elemental hiss and fizzle out as it hits the water.

The boat is nowhere to seen.

"Go!" Tricia says.

Lea lunges at the Earth elemental warrior.

Tricia continues to attack the water elemental.
>>
>>25614903
Seconding this Hard
>>
>>25614909
lets go to mage ... NOW
>>
>>25614909
Grab the unconscious guy and get to helping peri/mage

"Fall back if they're too tough! I'll help join the others!"
>>
Rolled 12, 2, 6, 6, 14 = 40

>>25614909
Lea smashes her fist into the clay and swears. "Damnit! Hard as ROCK!"

Tricia swipes with her mantis claws and chops off the clay head of the warrior and a flood of water pours out of the empty husk and onto the stone.
>>
>>25614944
You hear more combat coming from down in the inner prison.

Your turn.
>>
>>25614944
"Then just do that martial artisty thing where you crack a rock in half with a judo chop or something!"
>>
Rolled 4

>>25614944
dodongo dislikes the proliferation of dice
>>
>>25614909
Dammit.... we really need to do something about that boat before it gets away. Can't have the last guy reporting in to his bosses.

>>25614968

First, though, we need to give Mage and Peri a hand.
>>
>>25614968
Get to Mage and Peri now.
>>
>>25614968
time to go to Mage and Peri.
>>
Rolled 10

>>25614975
the boat is already gone.
>>
>>25614968
Someone suggested shouting shutdown commands in Phoenix -- "{Stand down}", "{Halt}", "{Geodude, that's enough!}"
>>
>>25614988
This is what happens when the dice gods are dicks
>>
>>25614968
Shout {STAND DOWN} at the golem, in case it works.

Then get going to help mage and peri.
>>
>>25614975
Looks like it's got away. Can't have gone that far yet though. If we try and spot it and aim the firework at it immediately while the other two distract the golem...
>>
>>25614997
>>25615020
Maybe something a little more metaphorical, like "{Return to your egg}" or "{un-hatch}".
>>
We are 3 threads from the bottom of page 9
>>
>>25614968
Uh, we are archived, right? We're nearly at the bottom of the board, you might want to start a new thread.
>>
>>25615094
Yes we're archiving.
>>
>>25614944
note:

We have to tell tricia that's weird/sexy later.
>>

Does that mean she'll be eating her mate?
