STRUGGLING TO COMPLETE A RACE ACROSS MANY WORLDS WITH A FEW UNLIKELY COMPANIONS AT HIS SIDE, SCOUT COMMANDER SCOTT YELLOWMAN OF THE TRANSPACE GUARD HAS FOUND HIMSELF IN SAN DRAD, A CITY OVERRUN BY THE DREADED XENOMORPH!

Currently barricaded in the armory of a police station, Scott's done what the Transpace Guard seems best at. Looting the ever-loving SHIT out of the place. But will his new gear be enough to escape the ravenous aliens roaming just outside the armory?

A special thank you to NoGodsorDevils for these handy-dandy pastebins.

>>
Scott. Try to look up for something out of focus. Do you see a "points" and "hitpoints" bar up there?
>>
>>25647598
Okay, we need to decide if we're going to call for those Marines in the sewers to come help us, or direct them somewhere else, or something. Those Xenomorphs are sitting outside trying to figure out how to get to us.

The exit strategy was to get a vehicle from the motor pool and get mobile while we figured out where the portal was. Is there a map of the building or something in here to tell us where the vehicles in this place would be located? We need to know how far we have to go for that plan.
>>
>>25647685
I think we should simply wait for the Marines to start attacking the hive, and when the xenomorphs outside move to protect the hive, we give the Marines a heads-up that xenos are coming out of the buildings and entering the sewers.

We need them to attack the hive in order to keep to Canon, but this gives them a heads-up so that they're not completely caught unawares.
>>
>>25647658
"I'd ask if you're on drugs, but you're a disembodied voice in my head, so I guess I have to ask if I'M on drugs," Scott grumbles.

"What'd you say?" Elyse asks, frowning with concern.

"Nothing," Scott says quickly.

>>25647685
"Everyone look around for a map of the building," Scott says, looking around.

"Sure thing boss," Fat-Fot-Pot says, floating around the room.

"You got it, doc," Charlie says, rummaging around while Elyse does the same in silence.

Roll 4d100.

In addition, I'm taking the suggestion of someone in a Quest General and making the following rules change. Dumb Luck points now let you reroll with three dice, taking the best result.
>>
http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/583716-alien-vs-predator/faqs has more info on this game.

Here is some info on some of the Xenos we may meet.

1. Warriors
-----------
Type: Alien(Xenomorph)
Color: Black
Energy: Medium-High
Abilities: Claw Attack, Venomous Tail Whack, Multiple Acid Spit
Appearance: All except Round 5

a. Claw Attack: Some aliens will do it faster than others, but nonetheless
it's predictable from most of them. They'll either crawl up to you and do it
or do it when you're close to them.

b. Venomous Tail Whack: The aliens will do the same movements as when they
are about to execute a claw attack, but this time they have their tails to
do the job for a little more damage. There's nothing to worry about as the
animation for the tail attack is much slower for lower level aliens, but
fast for higher level ones.

c. Multiple Acid Spit: This move is predictable no doubt. Warriors will
jump back and then do a acid spit if you are in a range that aligns with
their position. Every alien will telegraph some sort of animation before
they do a acid spit. And the acid spit is close range, so staying far
would deal you no harm.

>>

2. Stalkers
-----------
Type: Alien(Xenomorph)
Color: Brownish-White
Energy: Low
Abilities: Claw Attack, Extending Bite, Venomous Tail Whack, Jumping Pounce
Appearance: All except Round 5

a. Claw Attack: Some aliens will do it faster than others, but nonetheless
it's predictable from most of them. They'll either crawl up to you and do it
or do it when you're close to them.

b. Venomous Tail Whack: The aliens will do the same movements as when they
are about to execute a claw attack, but this time they have their tails to
do the job for a little more damage. There's nothing to worry about as the
animation for the tail attack is much slower for lower level aliens, but
fast for higher level ones.

c. Extending Bite: This move is fast for ALL aliens(although some aliens
will do it slower than others). The good thing is that this ability is close
range, so using range attacks will prevent them from getting to you with
this move. All aliens HAVE to stand before they can execute this move, so
be careful of their movements.

d. Jumping Pounce: Ya, you got it right. They will jump at you causing
damage with their claws. A few aliens can do this, and it's predictable
from the start, so careful.
>>
As another train of thought, we should have Elyse do a scrying to see if she can give us a hint on where the portal is.

3. Defenders
------------
Type: Alien(Xenomorph)
Color: Bluish-Green
Energy: Low
Abilities: Defending Block, Claw Attack, Claw Uppercut, Extending Bite,
Jumping Pounce
Appearance: Round 4, 6, and 7

a. Claw Attack: Some aliens will do it faster than others, but nonetheless
it's predictable from most of them. They'll either crawl up to you and do it
or do it when you're close to them.

b. Extending Bite: This move is fast for ALL aliens(although some aliens
will do it slower than others). The good thing is that this ability is close
range, so using range attacks will prevent them from getting to you with
this move. All aliens HAVE to stand before they can execute this move, so
be careful of their movements.

c. Jumping Pounce: Ya, you got it right. They will jump at you causing
damage with their claws. A few aliens can do this, and it's predictable
from the start, so careful.

d. Defending Block: They will block your attacks sometimes. The last hits
of a regular normal attack pattern will stop them, and hitting them with
range weapons from half screen away will prevent them from blocking.

e. Claw Uppercut: Different from Claw Attack, except they do it in a form
of a uppercut. This move is FAST, so careful. Good thing it's only close
range.

>we should have Elyse do a scrying to see if she can give us a hint on where the portal is.
Before we do that, we could have Scott check his card to see if the portal is now in range.
>>
Alright, let's get this out of the way real quick.
We need to finish level-ups for Scott, and two abilities for Elyse.

Scott:
+2 to Computers
+1 to Stealth
+1 to Pistols
+1 to Melee
+1 to Bluff
+2 to Repair
+1 to Lore
+1 Rifles

+1 Leadership, +1 Intelligence, +1 Perception, +1 Charisma

Elyse (choose 2):
>Wondrous Recall:
Elyse can replenish two of her Divine magic castings, and one technique casting. Can only be used once per rest period.

>Pallydar MK. II
Elyse can now use the full array of clerical detect spells, rather than just Detect Evil.

>Sometimes Sight Is The Weakness
Combining Grand Crusade Paladin training and her own enhanced hearing and perceptions, Elyse is able to detect hidden enemies and ambushes with preternatural skill, and reflexively react to them.

>Iron Rabbit
Elyse is able to move very fast, evading groups of enemies with her fast footwork, making enemies look like a bunch of mooks from a Hong Kong action film.
Increased defense in melee and able to weave through enemy groups with ease.

>Paladin's Mount
Paladin Mount, can be summoned and dismissed. Death of the mount requires either a month or a new level-up before being able to summon another one.
>>
>>25647929
Agree with the skill points and ability points for Scott.

Voting for Sometimes Sight Is The Weakness and Iron Rabbit.

"Got one!" Fat-Fot-Pot calls out, each of the tiny aliens attempting to clear off a rolled out map of the station. Large numbers of boxes and broken weapons have been piled on top of it.

"Good work, guys," Scott says, walking over the map and looking down at it. "Hmmm. There are two motor pools. One's for ordinary cruisers, and that's on ground level, with your standard automated doors to let the vehicles in or out. The other's for SWAT vehicles, and that's on a basement level, with a blast door-sealed ramp leading up to the streets. The cruiser pool is relatively close by, just a few rooms away, but to get to the basement level and the SWAT's APCs, we'd need to go through the station and down to the basement."

"I say we go for the cars. Do we even know anyone that can drive a heavy vehicle?" Charlie asks.

"Ooooooh, ooh! I know how!" Pot says, wobbling up and down on its disc.

"You have no hands..." Elyse notes, biting her lip.

"Oh. Right..." the alien slumps.

"Relax. I actually do know how to muck with an APC, though I can't do anything fancy with it," Yellowman says. "If Corporal Burton were here, he'd be able to man the guns, but..."

Scott trails off, and there is silence for a short time.

"If we're using a vehicle, I think the APC would be best," Elyse quietly says. "A normal car would get torn to shreds."

"Not if we outrun them," Charlie counters.
>>
Skill points agreed. Will second "Sight is the Weakness" and "Iron Rabbit"
>>
>>25647975
Actually, anyone play the game? Are there barricades and such set up on the streets?
If there are barricades, like there usually are in this genre, then an APC would be safer because we could ram through a barricade.
>>
>>25647975
I'm for going after the APC. But after the Colonial Marines attack the hive and draw all the xenos into the sewers; that should give us a clear route to the SWAT motor pool.

FFP, how close are the Colonial Marines to launching their attack on the hive proper in the sewers?
>>
>>25647975
I vote for the APC. Xenomorph blood will inhale a normal cruiser. APCs actually have enough armor to withstand a good deal; especially in the AvP world.

Who knows? Maybe we'll be able to get one of those tanks from the movies/the arcade game. Those things can take brutal punishment and would be perfect for getting us where we need to go. But yeah. Go for the APCs.
>>
>>25648075
Fat-Fot-Pot takes a moment to listen to the comm-traffic. "They're moving through the sewers and have reached a small control substation. They're stopping for a moment to let a technician examine the computers there."
>>
>>25648168
FFP, have you heard anything about a Linn and Dutch over the comm-traffic? Also can you make heads or tails of the Yautja comms?

I'm up for having Elyse do a quick scry and see if she can locate the gate, I also second trying for the APCs. It'll probably screw us, but they'll hold out longer.
>>
>>25648168
Hey Scott, do you think you can get some name tags and pieces of armor to make your Scout Armor look like USCM armor, and disguise yourself to look like a Marine? We might need to call in help from the second USCM detachment if the first one is being held up in the sewers and the xenos outside figure out a way to get in here.
>>
>>25648168
Oh, Scott, any luck with getting a ping on the portal with your card?
Otherwise, we'll need Elyse to scry for the portal's location.
>>
>>25648229
We need to be careful around the USCM in this world. There are USCM enemies in the game trying to stop you from destroying the hive. If these are them, they'd be more likely to attack us.
>>
>>25648221
"Uh... Sorry, I can't tell anything. It's full of clicks and other weird things," Fat-Fot-Pot says. "If we were on the ship, I could use the universal translator..."

"If we were on the ship, we could jump home and not be in this race. Come on, now," Scott says. "Let's not dwell on what we don't have."

"Didn't you just say if 'Burton were here?" Elyse asks. Yellowman frowns.

"That's... I... Nevermind that!" Yellowman says. "What about Dutch and Miss Ponytail?"

"They got mentioned a little while ago as being outnumbered in the streets, but continuing to fight," Fat-Fot-Pot reports.

>>25648256
"No dice."

>>25648229
"Hell, the Scout Armor's halfway there already. No problem."

>>

Elyse attempts to cast a scrying spell, a window of shimmering light appearing before the group and promptly displaying a corporate logo on a piece of metal. In bold white letters stamped on dull-gray steel, you see the words 'ComTrader', and nothing else.

"Oh, for fuck's sake, Elyse!" Scott cries. "You zoomed in too far with your scrying spell! Pan out!"

"It's a spell, not a camera... I can't!" Elyse sputters. "I don't understand... I thought I cast the optical parameters perfectly!"

Two sentry guns slowly swivel from side to side in front of it, a few shredded alien corpses in front of them testament to their firepower. The chamber in which it resides seems to be made of metal, with exposed cables hanging down from the ceiling. Peeling paint and dusty consoles built into the walls indicate this room probably hasn't seen activity since before the race.

>>25650099
Dammit, we can't depend on them to draw the xenos now.
Shit, that must be Razorclaws.

Scott, tell those Marines to fall back, they need to let Major Dutch Schaefer and Lt. Kurosawa deal with it.
>>
>>25650222
Those marines are probably working for General Bush. Which means they're badguys and will try and kill Dutch and Linn.

Let's get to the damn armor car and link up with them, they'd be able to at least give us ideas of somewhere to look.
>>
>>25650253
We still need to deal with the big group of xenos that are waiting just outside the Armoury's doors.
The plan was to have the Marines attack the hive to get the xenos to run to the hive's defense. But since the Marines got ambushed, that's unlikely to happen.
How do you suggest we deal with the big mess of xenos?
>>
>>25650222
"Damn it, give me that," Scott says, grabbing the communicator from Fat Fot Pot. "Marines! Fall back! Fall back immediately, you can't deal with that monster!"

"Can't fall back... cut off!" a garbled reply comes as the sound of pulse rifle fire and screaming echoes in the background. "Send help! We nee-ARGH!"

The speaker cuts off with a scream and the sickening sound of something wet being ripped apart. Pulse rifle fire continues for a few more seconds, then stops completely as the channel goes dead.

"Fuck!" Scott roars, tossing the communicator back to Fat. "We should've gotten in touch with them sooner... We should've warned them sooner!"

"Hey, ease up, doc," Charlie says, spreading his hands in what is meant to be a calming gesture. "There's no way you could've known those marines were walking into a trap..."

Scott merely sighs at this and rubs his eyes. "All right. All right. We still need a plan, and we still need to get out of here. Let's focus on that."
>>
>>25650367
>How do you suggest we deal with the big mess of xenos?
How do you think I suggest we deal with the Xenomorphs?
Explosions and copious amounts of running.

Equip Yellowman with a Pulse Rifle, open the door. Elyse, Yellowman and Charlie throw frag grenades. Run like hell.
We're going to have to fight them. There's no not fighting them, the place is infested. Split up the Frags, Potions, and give Yellowman a stack of Gauss Rifle grenades.
>>
>>25650423
FFP, monitor the second USCM detachment's communications, see if they got the first detachment's reports of an ambush, and see if they're scrambling another fireteam.

>>25650459
That's barely a plan, and we'll do it as a last resort. There are better ways we can go about this.
>>
>>25650493
"All right... yeah... they received it, but... they're just logging it in their data archive. They don't seem to care at all..." Fat Fot Pot says, sounding mystified.
>>
>>25650493
>That's barely a plan, and we'll do it as a last resort. There are better ways we can go about this.
Really? Suggest one then. Aliens ignore disguises. We couldn't cloak even if we had one, because they ignore that shit too. Hell, if it's in the area, organic, and not suitable as a host they'll tear it apart. They're immune to stunning and gas.
The Marines here are all in on the shit, lead by a corrupt General.

So what's your great and amazing plan that's the "better way to do this?"
>>
>>25650534
Which means that the second detachment is probably working with Weyland-Yutani. The first detachment could have been a regular USCM detachment.

Scott, get the others and see if there's any way to put a barricade up at the Armoury doors. Unless we can get in touch with Duct and Linn to come clear this station out for us, we'll need to clear out these xenos ourselves.

If we create a barricade at the door, then only partially open the doors, then we can create a chokepoint and get most of them when they first try to attack.
>>
>>25650534
Scott, are you still getting movement beyond the Armoury doors with the Motion Tracker? How many aliens do you detect now, compared to before?
>>
>>25650582
"There's a ton of crates and heavy metal cases for ammo and guns," Scott notes, looking around. "We could make a barricade, sure. All right, everyone help me out!"

As everyone sets to making a barricade, Scott pauses to sweep around with the helmet tracker.

>>25650606
"Only a few movement signals... four or so, scattered around us," Scott reports.
>>
>>25650698
Elyse, if you needed to, could you use a Spell to create a personal forcefield, like Mage Armor, that could prevent acid splashback from hitting you?

Scott, weren't there more signals when you first entered the Armoury?
>>
>>25650766
"Yeah..." Scott notes, eyes narrowing. "Yeah, there were."

"What, did they leave or something?" Charlie asks.

"Elyse, can you create a spell like Mage Armor, magic force fields to stop acid from hitting us?" Scott asks.

"I can try, yeah," Elyse nods. "Should be simple enough... Oh! Or I could just cast a protection from acid spell!"
>>
>>25650851
How long would the Protection from Acid last?
And would it be able to cover all of us?
>>
>>25650851
So we've got 4 signals. There could be an unknown number of them either not moving/moving slow enough to not get picked up by the tracker, and others spread throughout the station.

4 we should be able to handle with Scott using a pulse rifle, Charlie with Gertrude, and I suppose Elyse can throw a grenade.

Hey, try having Elyse use her PallyDar, see if xeno's show up on it. Normally I'd assume they would be True Neutral because they only work on instinct, but if they're smart enough, they might show up as Evil.

Let's see.
1. Cast the Protection from Acid on Scott, Charlie, and Elyse
2. Get everyone behind the barrier, Scott with a pulse rifle and Elyse with a grenade she can throw if needed

4. kill the 4 signals, see if the gunfire attracted the others by using the motion tracker to detect movement
5. Make our way to the SWAT Motor Pool, keep an eye on the motion tracker

Elyse manages to successfully cast a Protection from Acid spell that's more potent than normal. It will last for an hour.

Elyse spells: 5/9

Elyse grabs one of your hand grenades from the trained mimic while Scott readies a pulse rifle and Fat Fot Pot moves to the door, waiting for the order to press the button to open it.

When you are ready to proceed, roll 3d100.

Fat Fot Pot presses the door button and it slides back into the wall with a pneumatic hiss. One alien stands in the hall, hissing at Scott as it spies the hastily barricade. Beside it are three more drones, curled up on the floor in an amazing compact position, to the point where some look like pods.

>85
Before anyone else can react, Elyse throws her grenade into the midst of the dormant aliens, blowing them apart and creating a pool of acid that melts down into the floor below.

>54
Yellowman is quick to react, taking aim and putting ten rounds through the head of the active drone. The alien's skull bursts and it collapses to the ground twitching. Its acid blood combines with the others to make the gaping hole even larger, the room below this one now clearly visible as some sort of workshop.

>22
Charlie fires a single shot, but it goes wide.

As the quick and vicious assault annihilates the few aliens left in front of the door, Scott hears a distinct pulsing sound from his helmet. His heads up display suddenly blazes with light as the motion tracker begins picking up a lot more signals.

"Damn it!" Scott growls. "Most of them just went still waiting for their scouts to find a way in! We're gonna have company real fast!"

>Lose 10 pulse rifle rounds.
>Lose 1 grenade
>Lose 1 12 gauge shell.

The sounds of alien shrieks and hissing gets louder and louder while Fat Fot Pot zips over to Yellowman's side.

"OK, I've got the route memorized! Uh, might be tricking moving around that hole in the floor, though!" Fat says.

"Come on, let's get going!" Pot urges.

Charlie did get a bonus, it wasn't enough to hit something. No the bonus isn't enough to boost it to 52. The dubs bonus works by adding the two digits together. 22 would be counted as 26, for example, 44 as 52, 66 as 78, and so on. the exception is 77 because sevens are 'lucky'.

>>25652309
"Come on!" Scott says, vaulting over the pit while Fat-Fot-Pot fly ahead and Charlie inches his way around the edge of the hole. Elyse takes a few steps back and then leaps over the pit in much the same way Scott had just done.

>>25652405

"Wait!" Scott suddenly says. "We can just drop down the hole! Elyse ca- Wait! Hell, I've got a grappler, just hang on to me and I'll lower us down!"

"Why didn't you think of that before?" Charlie asks, turning around.

"Why didn't you?" Scott counters. "Come on! Hurry!"

Scott mutters a curse as he takes a peek at the motion tracker. Nearly every direction has at least a few xenos approaching. Elyse's ears suddenly twitch and she looks up, eyes widening.

"The ceiling!" Elyse cries, slashing upwards with her sword and cleaving an alien hiding behind the ceiling panels in two. A shower of acid rewards her, but her spell holds, nullifying the stuff immediately. Charlie reaches Yellowman and grabs him by the shoulder, while Elyse loops her arms around his other.

"No guarantees on how well this'll work! Here we go!" Scott calls, firing the grappler tp the pit edge and then jumping, letting the armor mechanism lower them down in a controlled manner. The suit's grapple system begins to groan a little under the strain and Yellowman blanches.

"Maybe next time I listen to the voices and cast a spell..." he mumbles. Whether due to the weight or the speed of descent, Yellowman and the others hit the floor hard, but are uninjured, not even stumbling from the impact.

"Oh! Oh, I know where we are!" Fat Fot Pot speaks up, floating to the door of the workshop and working on opening it. "This way!"

"Watch out!" Scott calls.

"Fat! Run ahead to the motor pool and get an APC ready! We'll be wanting to leave REAL soon!" Scott calls, rolling to the side as the creature's second mouth bites into the floor where his head had been a moment before. In a remarkable show of agility, Scott worms his right arm out of the pin, draws Waldorf, and fires a plasma burst at close range into the monster. The alien dies with a loud shriek as plasma cooks it. Scott rolls off and retrieves his pulse rifle with a gasp.

"Got it Commander!" Fat Fot Pot calls out as it flies off down the hall.

Charlie fires another burst from his riot shotgun, but the first xenomorph leaps to the side to avoid it, then leaps again, distracting the former bouncer while its companion sneaks around behind him. Charlie suddenly shouts in pain as the venomous stinger of the xeno behind him jabs into his back. The shotgunner begins to weave and wobble in place as potent paralytic venom seeps into him.

Elyse charges forward as the xenomorph targeting her vomits acid. The liquid rolls off of the invisible shield created by the paladin's spell, though. The novice crusader allows herself a smile as she closes and swings her sword, only to have the alien leap back before the blade can contact its exoskeleton.

Emerging into a dimly lit concrete hall, Scott motions for everyone to follow as he jogs down the cracked and chipped floor, doing his best to ignore the occasional bloodstain splattered on the wall. The group's footsteps echo eerily in the confined space.

"Pretty sure we go this way," Scott says, pointing down the hall.

"What makes you say that?" Charlie asks.

"That sign," Scott nods, pointing to a sign declaring 'Motor Pool', with an arrow down the hall.

"Yeah, that'd do it," Charlie agrees.

Suddenly Elyse's ears twitch and she whirls around to slice a facehugger in two just as one launches itself from an open vent in the wall.

"Ah shit, faceh-SHIT!" Scott cries as he barely manages to raise an arm to stop a second facehugger from latching onto his face. The creature's tail loops around his arm reflexively, beginning to crush it with incredible strength as Yellowman fights to keep the alien as far away from his mouth as possible.

Well done.

>35, 2

Scott fires the pulse rifle for three burst of three, but each shot plinks off the floor around the facehugger as it picks up speed towards the group. Elyse then brings up her sword, and as the facehugger leaps, attempts to cut it apart mid-air.

The attempt fails.

With a startled cry, Elyse drops her sword and puts up a hand as the facehugger connects with her head, its snake-like tail coiling around her neck, its finger-like legs clutching and scrabbling to position itself and force open Elyse's mouth...

>99

Then it splits apart as a burst of four 10mm caseless rounds tear through it, its potent acid dribbling harmlessly down the warded paladin and into the ground where they begin to eat through to the second basement.

Yellowman lowers the pulse rifle and looks over to Elyse.

"You all right?" he asks.

Elyse shakes slightly and looks at her trembling hands. "I... I almost... it... you..."

"Come on, let's get out of here before I have to repeat that stunt," Scott says, nodding to the corridor. Elyse nods and picks up her sword, Charlie reloading as the trio rushes down to the motor pool.

The motor pool for the SWAT vehicles isn't as big as you might expect. Eight empty lots leave most of the pool bare, most of the vehicles having been called out to action during the infestation crisis. Two APCs remain, one partially disassembled, and clearly in the middle of heavy repair. The second appears fine, save for the pump it's connected to. Fat-Fot-Pot zip around the vehicle, then turn and fly over to Scott as one.

"Commander!" Fat says. "We've managed to give the remaining APC a one over, and we've got good news. Well, mostly good news. It's in operable condition and ready to roll, but..."

"...but it's almost out of fuel. The pump machine is hooked up, but we can't get it working for some reason," Pot finishes. "If we get it running, it shouldn't take too long before we can roll with it, though!"
>>
>>25654210
Well, this looks like a standard "Defend Until Objective Completed" part. Are the weapons on the APC operational to help us? If they are, someone needs to man the controls before we start the pump. If not, go ahead and start the pump, then get into defensive positions!

"I think this here's the control station for the pump? It's all electronic and tech-looking," Charlie says, prodding a small console built into the pump machine with his shotgun.

"Hang on..." Scott says, looking the machine over and tinkering with the command console. "Yeah, that's what I thought. Like most of the gizmos in the wonderful world of the future, it's computerized, and it's been locked down. Luckily, I know a few hacker tricks for low end things like computer control systems..."

Yellowman taps at the console for a few seconds, then laughs as the machine hums to life, fuel pumping into the APC at a steady pace.

"Should take about three minutes," Yellowman nods. "I think we can hold out for that long."

Elyse's voice comes from inside the APC.

"I think I found the controls for the guns, but I don't know how to use them. It's got the twin 20mm guns in the front, but nothing else that I can see."

"Figures they'd take off the back-mounted plasma guns. SWAT after all, not military," Scott says, noting the lack of the cannon and rails on the APC's back. His motion tracker beeps more urgently as the sound of hissing and growling aliens gets louder and louder. "We've got a few seconds before we meet some really angry bugs!"

Definitely an improvement.

Pot flies over to the entry hall and ejects a large cloud of spores right over it before the three-in-one alien retreats to the interior of the APC. Not more than a few seconds after his retreat, a stream of xenomorphs rush directly through it, a good half of them immediately collapsing into twitching messes, though that still leaves half more than ready to tear apart the intrepid racers. This half is met by a hail of lead as the dual 20mm autocannon on the front of the APC whir to life and open fire, Scott having managed to figure out their operation just in time. Even this is not enough to stop the entire horde though, and Charlie is forced to empty another magazine from his riot shotgun to put down the wounded and mangled xenomorphs that make it through the onslaught of poison and gunfire.

Elyse stays close to Charlie, darting forward to intercept and cut apart any alien that gets too close before it can reach the APC, the pump, or Charlie. Spent shotgun shells clatter to the motor pool floor as Charlie keeps up his executioner's fire, carefully aiming his bursts for maximum effect.

"It's a hell offa shootin' gallery!" Charlie shouts over the din of battle. "These things woulda made one hell of an attraction in the Thorn!"

"If you think that's good, you should see some of the other stuff I've had to fight!" Scott remarks, using the communicator from within the APC.

"How can you stay so cheerful?!" Elyse asks, jumping back from a charging alien only to duck and cut through its chest with a sword slash. "Look at all the things that want to kill us!"

"Just another Monday for me," Yellowman says over the communicator.

"What, having everything want to kill you? Yeah, I can believe it," Charlie laughs.

"Shaddup, you."

After a good five minutes of fighting, the aliens retreat, leaving enough of their number slain to melt an acidic crater in the motor pool floor.

Scott dashes out of the APC as Charlie moves over to take the controls of the turret. Being careful to keep in the turret's firing arc at all times, Scott reaches the blast door and hastily looks around. Smiling, he slams a hand on a big red button, and the blast doors being to slowly recede into the walls with a loud groan of metal on metal.

"Watch out!" Charlie yells over the comm as the dual 20mms spin to life, spitting out a stream of fire that annihilates a facehugger dropping down from the ceiling behind Yellowman. Yellowman immediately swears and runs for the APC, literally jumping in as Elyse slides the door shut once more.

"So... same place?" Charlie asks.

"Hey Elyse..." Scott says as the APC rumbles out of the police station. "Where do Crusade paladins get their power from, anyway?"

"Eh? Oh! Well, it's a bit complicated, but mainly from our belief in good," Elyse says, nervously holding her sides.

"What? From your belief in good? Whadda load of fairydu-OW!" Charlie shouts in pain as Fat swabs his wound with a sterile pad.

"Sorry!" Fat says, waving a leaf. "Normally I'd just put the sap right on you, but I'm not sure how it'd react with the acid, immune right now though we are. Cleaned now, though."

"Sheesh..." Charlie mutters as Fat dribbles healing sap onto him.

>Charlie heals 1 Wound.

"Naw, I've heard of this sort of thing," Scott waves a hand. "Sort of like how Ascension mages can bring magic into being with raw belief?"

"Sort of..." Elyse frowns, shifting in her seat. "It's got something to do with how much everyone in the Crusade believes in what we're doing. It forms a pool of energy that we can draw from... with the right training and talent, anyway."

"Sounds like some sort of in between the way the Warp works and the way certain mages work," Scott murmurs. "Or Sigil, come to think of it. Hell, belief binds that whole cosmology together."

"Whatever, doc," Charlie waves a hand. "I'll buy magic now. I've seen it enough times, but I can't buy the notion that pure belief is enough to change anything, even if you discounted it."

Elyse's frown deepens. "It's true! If enough people have faith, they can move mountains!"

"You sound like one of them New Canaanites," Charlie says, his eyes narrowing. "I've seen plenty of people who believed real hard in things get thrown in shallow graves. Let me tell you what I believe in. Life's a rigged game, luck's your only prayer, and all you can do is take a chance, toots."

Elyse falls silent and looks down at the floor of the APC.

"Hey you both have a point," Scott says, relaying your words. "You need to have SOME belief to take a chance on, after all."

"No, I can dig that, pally," Charlie says, raising his hands. "I just don't think it's such a big slice of the pie as our knight in shining armor here."

"Without belief, without something more to drive us, we might as well be robots of meat... or bugs, like those creatures," Elyse murmurs, still looking down.

"Well, if you want to have a big argument about it, I guess now's a good a time as any. No matter where we choose to go, it'll take us a while to get there, this city is huge," Scott says, maneuvering the APC around blockages made from crashed cars or debris on the road. Occasionally the APC jolts as he opts to simply run through them. "Anyway, there's a pair of USCM we might link up with. Any ideas on how to figure out where to find them?"

Elyse suddenly looks up as Scott feels the portal card pulsing in his pocket. Another racer is near.
>>
>>25667779
"Uhhhh, no. It's two men," Fat-Fot-Pot says. "I think I can get a fix on their position. The biowarfare unit is still gathering data for now."

"I can pinpoint the gunstore with the map, yeah. And yeah, I can find a warehouse district, but sorry, no area labelled 'secret military labs."

"There's a military base marked though. Is that where the labs are?" Elyse says, walking behind the driver's seat and pointing to the map.

"That's the spaceport... wait, are the labs at the spaceport?" Scott asks.
>>
>>25667790
Does this thing have cameras? Is the other racer close enough for us to see?
I hope it's not Ed.
>>
>>25667864
>wait, are the labs at the spaceport
Yes, I think so.
But I think the Military Base is different from the Spaceport; at least in the game, the Military Base is separated from the Lab and the Spaceport by the Downed Dropship stage.

Scott, can you get a route that takes you towards the spaceport and the labs? If we don't get a portal ping on your Cards as we get closer to the spaceport, then we know that the portal isn't there, and we should divert to the gun store and the warehouse district.

If we meet Linn and Dutch along the way, we can give them a ride, but right now we'd have to blindly drive through the streets to try to find them at this point, which would just increase our chances of getting into fights.

Elyse, Charlie, use the camera systems in the back to look around.
Scott, can the card tell you what direction the Racer is in?

"Card's telling me someone's near, but not where. Th-WHOA!"

The slim woman seems pushed to her limit attempting to dodge the brutal blows being aimed her way, and her left arm lies useless at her side, broken and dangling, soaked with blood. A few cuts are evident on the attacker, but they are minor. Melliarde on the other hand, is bleeding in several places and her plate armor is dented and crumpled in several places.

>Senior Crusader Melliarde gasps as Akuma's fist caves in her breastplate, then screams and lashes out with her sword, a burning white energy rapier. The blade cuts into Akuma's side and the legendary fighter grunts, moving a fraction of a second too slow.

>"MESSATSU!"

>Akuma leaves a series of blurry after-images as he moves around Senior Crusadar Melliarde, blows impacting against her armor again and again and again until the metal is torn off her, her flesh now taking the direct impact as bone breaks and bone spills. The Crusaders lets out a pained scream as she falls, a blood-red letter glowing from Akuma's back as he completes the move. Aeshma's words reach him and he turns.

"Turn that down!" Scott calls. "I'm trying to listen to these..."

The two men talking sound very familiar. Very familiar.

"Just calm down, boss. They can't have gotten that far ahead," a sibilant voice wheezes.

"I'll kill them. KILL THEM!" the other roars. "I can't believe they got through the sand-lurks! When does Gariscotti say the next shipment will be ready?"

"But what?!"

"The other racers are much closer to the goal! If we want to win, we should try to take down that Street Samurai, or the spectre on his friend in the su-HURK!"

Alright Scott, we know that the sewers/Underpass Stage are where we need to go. So you can stop going towards the Spaceport.

Does the map show the location of an underpass access to the sewer system?
Maybe, like a central sewer processing plant or control center?
>>
>>25671336
You think that matters to a hacker like her?

Also, can we triangulate the signals? Put simply, we measure signal strength, then go in a specific direction measuring the strength increase or decrease. That should allow us to use the distance and angles to find where the signals are, and from there we can get an idea where Ed is. She'll likely be closest, given the message.
>>
>>25671454
"We can do that for the song, yeah," Scott replies. "Want to?"

We have about an hour before whatever Conti's cheat is arrives.
The music has been set to auto-transmit on a loop, though. How likely is it that Ed is actually at the substation?

"Guys, we might have locked in the position of another racer, should we pay her a visit? She's a hacker par excellence," Scott says.

"Does she need our help? Is she in danger?" Elyse asks.

"Eh... Maybe? She's not a fighter, and well, this city..." Scott trails off.

"I guess we'd better see if we can help her then,' Elyse nods.

"I say we pass. If she's not transmitting distress, she's probably fine," Charlie says. "I say we move on before Conti sends more lurks our way."

"I'll follow your lead, commander!" Fat Fot Pot says.

>Attempt to travel to Ed.

Attempt. If nothing else, we can at least say hi to her from Spike.

>Attempt to travel to Ed.
We need to traverse more ground to figure out the portal's location, anyway, in case it's not at the central control center.
Assuming that Ed is amenable to being recruited, she could be very useful so long as we get to planets with tech where her skills can be used.
Of course, she'll be a burden on a medieval low-fantasy world.

And if we meet up with Sam again, he'll likely shoot us if Ed can't hack his implants in time.

But we can also shut him down so we can play poker at the end.
>>
This had better not be a wild goose chase, and the automated song on loop really IS just an automated song on loop.

Hoooooleeee sheeeet.

About five minutes into the drive, Scott swears a blue streak. A virtual tidal wave of xenomorphs mobs the road ahead, and is dashing towards the APC like some sort of nightmarish sea of black carapace.

"Sinatra's sixth scotch! Scott, turn this damn thing around!" Charlie yells, looking at the outside from the camera station.

"But we're in an APC! Surely they can't rip through the armor!" Elyse says.

"And we can squish them all like grass blorfs!" Pot says with barely restrained glee. "Squish, squish, squish!"

>Retreat!
>Break through!

They dashing at us? Check the map, is there a way around?

Dumb Luck, and we cut there, because I just got an emergency phone call. Next thread either Friday or Tuesday, depending on circumstance.
