>We're gonna start out with a brief rewind, since I really fumbled that confession speech last thread and the awkwardness of it is making it hard for me to continue the scene properly.

"I'm sorry. There's something I really should've told you. I understand if you want to leave me bound up like this for now, but please, at least hear me out.
In all honesty, I'm probably not the best person to be showing you the ropes in this business. Hell, maybe I shouldn't even be in this business in the first place. I'd thought I had put all this behind me but...

The thing is, I'm not always entirely...in control. I thought it was a thing of the past, but apparently not. There are times when I lose myself and just start killing. It's some kind of possession or curse, I think. Probably thanks to my father, the cultist witch bastard...

Anyway, what I'm saying here is, I'm dangerous. Probably more of a danger to you than most monsters you'll face as adventurers. I've hurt a lot of people in the past. Killed a lot of people. I've done terrible things. I even killed my own mother, under the demon's influence. Would've killed my little sister too, if a neighbor hadn't stepped in. By all rights, I ought to have been hanged ages ago, or else be rotting in a dungeon cell right now.

>cont
>>
>>25705156
"I didn't mean to trick you. I really didn't. I just honestly believed all this was behind me. I spent years in temples and monasteries learning to master myself to keep the demon from getting control, and it's been years since I had any trouble with it. I really just thought it was a thing of the past, nothing to worry about any more. And, well, there's no sense in getting off on the wrong foot because of ancient history, right? Better for everyone if I just...don't mention it.

But I was wrong. Gods, I was so wrong. And because of that, I put you all in danger. I...I tried to kill you.

I know words can't begin to possibly make up for that, but...I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

For awhile, the girls just gape at you in stunned silence. Or, well, near-silence, anyway -- you faintly hear Yukiho whimpering from behind her shovel. Something to the effect of "I knew it, men are scary, they're all demons", you think.

Miki is the first to speak up. "Producer, you're terrible! I can't believe you'd lie to us all like that!"

"Miki, don't say that!" replies Haruka. During your speech, she's slid off your back and is now kneeling by your side, clutching your shoulder with one hand. "He didn't lie! Like he said, he thought it wasn't a problem! And besides, it's not really your fault, right Producer? Didn't you say it's some kind of curse somebody put on you?"

You shake your head. "Even so, it's my fault for not keeping it in control, and for not telling you about the risk."

Haruka squeezes your shoulder. "But it's not your fault! Everyone makes mistakes!"

Miki gestures at you with her poleaxe. "He almost killed Ami!"

"It wasn't his fault!"

"He still could've told us about it!"

"He just explained why he didn't! Were you even listening!"

"Hmph! I don't listen to liars!"

"But he never even lied! He just didn't tell us certain things!"

"It's the same thing!"

"It is not!"

"Miki!"

Bit of work to list. I really want to illustrate as much of what we've done so far as possible. But i'll likely stick to key scenes from each session.

If you give me some time i'll happily write it all out. Maybe near the end of this session.

Someone has asked me to draw one scene in particular where the twins were talking about what she saw in the cult chamber. And there's one from QM just now.

"It is. No, Haruka, Miki's right. I should have said something up front, and while I may have had my reasons for not doing so, I was still wrong to keep you in the dark on this. I really cannot apologize enough.
But...right now, let's not forget that we are in a cult temple deep underground who-knows-how-far from civilization. Maybe not the best place to be quarreling amongst ourselves? Let's get back to town first, alright?"

Miki purses her lips and grumbles a bit, then finally tosses her head with an irritated "Fine!"

Haruka stands up, and a few moments later you do the same, once Haruka reminds Yukiho to free you from your stone bindings. You stumble a bit standing up, wincing in pain from the stab wound in your belly.

This does not escape Haruka's notice. "Oh, Producer, are you hurt? I...eheh, I didn't, um, couldn't tell, with all the blood on you, if any of it was yours."

At least Miki obliged. Something tells me we have a lot of explaining to do once we get back to the guild.

Speaking of which. Sorry to bother you QM but do you think you can write up an overview of the 765 HQ in this world if you had any thoughts? Would be kind of interesting. But please answer this only after the session. I wouldn't want to take up your time writing responses.

"Are you sure? I still have some mana left, I can heal it if you want."

"Don't worry about it, save your mana for the girl on the altar! She probably needs the healing way more than I do!"

"Oh! Right!"

As you turn to head toward the altar to check on the girl, you hope that she's still actually alive to be saved. You may have stopped the head cultist from delivering the killing blow, but she was cut up pretty badly already, and it's possible she might have bled out during the fighting...

You dash to the altar, Haruka close on your heels. When you get there you find the girl in bad shape -- deathly pale, covered with lengthy cuts, and breathing so shallowly that you almost didn't notice it at first.

But she is breathing. Thank the gods.

"Haruka?"

"I think I can do it...but it'll take about all the mana I have left."

"Do it then. We shouldn't have anything else to worry about until you've had a chance to rest, and our healing potions aren't potent enough for a near-death case like this."

"Right!"

Haruka extends her hands over the girl, soft white light raining down as she directs her magic to healing the injuries. You watch anxiously as, slowly but surely, the girl's wounds close, her breathing returns to a more normal depth and rhythm, and a hint of color begins to return to her face. The process takes quite some time -- no doubt because Haruka is being extra careful to be as gentle and thorough as possible.

Finally, Haruka lowers her hands, and her look of grim concentration melts into a satisfied smile. "That should do it. She probably won't wake up for awhile yet, and she'll need plenty of rest and care before she'll recover fully, but she should be fine!"

"Great, let's get her off this horrid altar then."

On an unrelated note, what about that cat-skeleton-shadow thing? Should we be worried about that?
>>

>>
>>25707136
Good point, heh.
>>
>>25706898
You set down your shield and begin digging around in your pack. Taking out your rope, canvas, and collapsible pole, you set to making an improvised stretcher. It's a bit on the short side, seeing as the main supports are made up of segments of an eleven-foot pole, but the girl fits just fine on it. She looks to be about Yayoi's age, and roughly the same build as well, perhaps a bit more slender. She also looks like she hasn't eaten properly in quite some time; you imagine the cultists have probably been keeping her prisoner down here for awhile. As you gently put her on the stretcher, you wrap her in the blanket from your bedroll. Depending on how far you are from town and how late it is when you get to the surface, you might end up needing to spend a night outdoors without it, but better you than her. That thin slip of a dress she's wearing won't provide nearly enough warmth for someone recovering from near-fatal wounds, particularly not cut to ribbons like it is. As an afterthought, you gently wipe some of the blood off her face with your handkerchief, revealing a spray of freckles.

Huh. Blonde hair and freckles...kind of reminds you of your sister. Not that this could actually be her -- your sister is older than that.

At any rate, now you just need to carry her off to the side so she'll be out of the way while you investigate the area for clues about the cult.
>>
>>25707307
And loot, of course. Not to be crass, given the circumstances, but it is how an adventurer puts bread on the table, after all.

At any rate, now is as good a time as any to assign stretcher-carrying duty.

Ideally I think it should be Yukiho and one of the twins. Shes shouldnt be too heavy and they're not required to be in combat, they can be in the middle of the column.

For anyone else if we get set upon, they'll have to dump her on the floor or waste time setting her down gently.

Also, it sets up P-San for 'heroic sacrifice' to distract overwhelming odds. Something that might help his case when it's brought forward to the rest of the girls, later

Miki grudgingly acquiesces to your logic, but not until after much pouting and griping. After moving the girl toward the stone stairs leading up to the surface, you gather your group to give them tips on searching the chamber. You tell them to keep a close eye out for any sort of clues that might help identify the cult or its members, or give insight into their goals and activities. You also tell them to look for anything useful or valuable -- though anything that seems obviously demonic might be better off left behind.

Fanning out, you and your party search the room for clues and valuables. You find a few things of particular interest:

First, it would appear that the cultists are all rather well-to-do individuals. For one thing, the clothing worn under their cult robes is of quite fine quality, and would have fetched a handsome sum before you ruined them with battle damage and bloodstains. For another, their coin purses are quite well-stocked -- all together, you find a total of 190 silver pieces, and (in the leader's purse) one gold piece. Several of them also were wearing jewelry -- between the seven cultists, you find a silver torc, a gold ring, a sapphire pendant, and a silver bracelet. Unfortunately, none of them appear to be carrying any signet rings or other such identifying items.

However, they are all wearing identical rings made of a broad silver band set with a clear gemstone. On the inside of the band is inscribed a series of runes -- you're no wizard, but they look to you like ordinary arcane writing, not anything demonic. You suspect they might be magical, and if so they probably have some sort of linked function, being members of a matched set.

The final clue you discover is a particular name recurring often among the graffiti on the defaced statues of the gods ringing the chamber: "Bifrons".

In addition to these items, you notice that the daggers used by the cultists appear to be nothing more than particularly fancy blades -- nothing notably cultish or demonic about them, just inlaid with silver and various gems on the hilt. They would likely sell for an appreciable sum.

And, of course, each of the cultists (as well as the two tainted orc-mutants) bears one of the obsidian skull-and-flame charms you've found before. While they may be made of valuable materials, you imagine you'd have a rough time finding anyone willing to buy trinkets tied to a demon cult, and seeing as you already have two you could use as examples to show people in looking for information on the cult, you decide not to take the ones from these cultists.

Finally, you're ready to head up the stairs to the surface.

>Bifrons

It's chill guys. He wasn't that hard in SMT.
>>
>>25709016

I guess check for any last traps and let's get the fuck out of this hell-hole.
>>
>>25709016
We should maybe, possibly, inspect our wound. Just, y'know, in case.
>>
>>25709016
Inspect the alter or have one of the girls do it to see if any remarkable markings or symbols are on it.
>>
>>25709016

Fuck up the altar and this place or somehow deface it so that it cannot be used for further activities. I recommend fire. And all of our remaining oil, once we're confirmed the way out is safe.

Unless we're planning to lead authorities back here but i doubt it.
>>
>>25709016

Write '765 WAS HERE. YOU'RE WELCOME' on the wall with charcoal.
>>
>>25709088
As much as I like fire, wasting oil and possible alchemy fire seems wasteful when we could have Yukiho bury the place with a bit of magics.
>>
>>25709123

>leading the perps right back to our girls.

>obviously wealthy perps who can do alot of damage.

How about no.
>>
>>25709073
If there were, I would've mentioned it in the search results.

>>25709088
You actually don't have any extra oil, unless you want to drain the lantern. I forgot to mention it, but you would've needed to refill to finish up the last bit of looking over the chamber.

Also, good luck burning a room that's pretty much all stone.
>>
>>25709166

Ah cool.

Lets collapse it then, like >>25709140 said.
>>
>>25709157
Then write '961 WAS HERE, CHECKMATE' instead.
>>
Rolled 9

>>25709166
BURN IT ANYWAY
>>
>>25709224

Perhaps the markings
>>
>>25709197
Imagine we might have found that in a chest if we had rolled a 20 in the search.

As you make your way to the stairs, a wave of lightheadedness briefly washes over you as the pain in your wound suddenly flares up, and you stumble slightly. From near the altar, you hear Haruka cry out, "Producer, are you ok?", followed by rushing footsteps.

"Just this stab wound giving me a little trouble. I probably ought to check it out, I think it might be a little worse than I first --"

Your response is interrupted by Haruka slipping on the bloody stone floor of the dais and landing face-first in the reservoir of blood ringing its outside. She sits up with a disgusted grimace, covered in blood.

"Haruka! Are YOU ok?"

"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Heheh," she giggles sheepishly, wiping blood from her face.

Casting a concerned eye at her, you remove your breastplate and gingerly peel your shirt up to examine the wound. It is, in fact, worse than you thought. It will probably only get worse if you don't do something about it, and with Haruka out of mana your only option is a healing potion. For a moment, the more miserly side of you considers just toughing it out until you get back to town or Haruka can recover some mana, but realistically speaking you should probably just drink the potion. Besides, you can afford it -- you got a good haul of loot already, and there's still reimbursement from the duke to come for this quest too.

After sipping down part of your potion, you put your armor back on and head on up the stairs to the surface.

>>25709630
At the top of the stairs, you find a small wooden building, not even big enough for two people to stand in shoulder-to-shoulder. There's a door facing the stairs, which you need to open just to be able to get the stretcher out. Opening the door, you find it leads outside. You see that it's early evening now, the sun casting the sky in vibrant fiery hues. Once outside, you see the reason why the structure covering the stairs is so tiny -- it's made to look like a privy, to disguise the stairs from unsuspecting eyes.

After everyone has made it out, you turn to Yukiho. "Seal it off."

"W-what?"

"You know, a wall, a cave-in, whatever works. Make it so nobody can use this place anymore, or at least not for a long while."

"I-I guess I could do that...but I think that would take the last of my mana..."

>Are you sure you want Yukiho to use the last of her mana to seal off the underground cult temple?
>>
>>25709796

I mean when you put it that way, I'm not so sure I want to exhaust her. But we should probably seal it off somehow. So I don't know, unless there's some other way of blocking or caving it, there's not a lot of options.
>>
>>25709796
You will most likely be making camp soon adn resting, and as great as earth magic is, outside it would be less helpful as it was underground, plus we have the twins with more room to maneuver now outside.
>>
>>25709796

Do it.

Bring it down.

Burn this site.
>>
>>25709796

Actually yeah, cave it, then set up camp so everyone can get some rest outside. That should be fine.
>>
>>25709993
Again, no burning, it cannot be burned, unless we have Yukiho tap into so magma but then that is probably beyond her right now.
>>
>>25710047
The outhouse is wooden, isn't it?
>>
>>25709796
"Do it. We'll be making camp shortly, and we should be pretty safe at this point. Heck, sealing it off only makes things that much safer."

"O-okay."

Gripping her shovel in front of her with both hands, Yukiho jabs the blade into the ground, sending a tendril of yellow light snaking into the stairway, where it spreads to cover the whole tunnel leading down. There's a rumbling sound, and you see the fake privy shake as the stairwell clenches inward on itself, coming together to form a solid mass of stone. The stone continues to writhe and roil, however, jutting out and reshaping itself until the former stairwell had been formed into a stone toilet pit, turning the false privy into an actual one.

You really want to give Yukiho a pat on the head for that extra attention to detail, but considering her issues with touching (plus the fact that you have a stretcher to hold on to), you make do with a heartfelt "good job".
>>
And that's it for tonight. As always, feedback is much appreciated, and I'm happy to answer questions.

Well, for as long as I manage to stay awake, anyway. I'm surprised I managed to keep it up this long, frankly.
>>
>>25710200

Thanks for taking the time to do this even with all the workload you seem to be under.

I have to say it is pretty nice to be finally out that tunnel though. Five months we've been in there...
>>
>>25710279
Has it really been five whole months? Holy shit.
>>
>>25710200
Good job as usual glad to see you could make it this week.
>>25710279
> 5 months
My god it has been that long. At least we got a good bag of loot out of it, lack of a puchi in a bag is saddening, don't know why I though it would happen though, just wistful thinking on my part I guess.
>>
>>25710279
>>25710352
It feels like only a day...
>>
>>25710352

The /tg/ archive says we went down there in February. Crazy part is that it's been like 2 days game time.
>>
>>25710200

Thanks for running, QM!
>>
>>25710375

But that would be a daemonic puchi.

Harukasan, basically but still...
>>
Hey darwfag you still around? Were you planning on drawing just the tunnel scenes or would you be doing some of the other lesser quests like the twins pickpocketing scheme, the wanderings with Azusa or the adventure through the old wizard's place with Takane?
>>
>>25710548
Ah sorry, was away. I was going to draw key scenes from each session so I am going back to the beginning quests as well.

Also QM are you still around? I happened to ask about this if you have the time. >>25706164

So, getting to this: The general image I had in mind is loosely inspired by the layout of the office as seen in the anime, sort of. There's a sort of entry space with a few chairs and Kotori's desk, where the general public can come in to place petitions for quests and such, and this area is partially walled off from the rest of the guildhall, which generally consists of a bunch of couches and stuff along with some more desks along the back wall and a kitchen area, as noted on this lovely totally-not-slapped-together-in-five-minutes MSPaint floor plan here. Behind Kotori's desk space is a hallway that leads to a few storage rooms and Takagi's office and such.

In general, the place is furnished comfortably, but modestly. Nothing fancy, but it's not exactly a peasant hovel either.

>>25710375
Puchis are coming, friend. Promise. It just would've been a bit too much of a whiplash to go from the rather dark mood of the cave to suddenly having a puchi show up. Gotta ease back into the lighter side of things.
And don't worry, I'm going to be aiming lighter more often than not. Stuff as dark as the last few sessions will be rare, if it ever even gets to that point again at all.
>>
>>25710706
>>25710638
That seems cozy. The floorplan helps. So it's just a one floor building from what i'm getting here? But tall enough I suppose.
>>
Please just promise us that the next quest won't take 5 months to complete, QM.

That was exhausting.
>>
>>25710788
I think long ones like these aren't so bad once in a while. But I do agree we should break these up to a few shorter ones. Did enjoy it nevertheless.
>>
>>25710788

To be fair, we would've been out around roughly the end of April, had QM not been so swamped with business.
>>
>>25710775
Yep, one floor. And the building is kind of jammed right up against/built directly into the adjacent ones. One of those deals where it's just this solid block of buildings lining the street, like you see in a lot of European cities.

>>25710788
Well, the specifics depend on which options you guys pick, but I definitely plan on having a lot of shorter stuff in the mix coming up.
Though that being said, this almost certainly won't be the last arc of such a length. It's not unusual for story arcs in quest threads to take a matter of months to resolve, even for quests that run far longer and more frequently than I'm able to manage doing. Just part of how the medium goes, I guess.
In the future, though, I will try to frame lengthy arcs in multiple subsegments to at least try to break it up a bit rather than just being this big sprawling amorphous thing.

Also, I'm starting to have difficulty framing coherent sentences, so I think I'm gonna head off to bed. Keep posting questions and stuff if you've got them, though -- I'll catch them in the morning, and answer questions via the twitter if there are any.
