Sup /tg/... hehe

I'm bored as fuck with nothing to do. I tried one of these last night, but that time it didn't really take off, so let's try again. Also, I've never really run a quest thread before, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Primordial and Fortune evo were pretty cool as well as that other one that some other guy did. Let's do one of those.
The world that our journey is a pristine world, and for the time being, covered in ocean. The twin suns of the world do more than enough to keep the water... watery, and though there is ground, all of it is beneath the waves. The name of this world, I leave to you guys.
First, let's go over some ground rules first:
- Only one change a creature for every post. The changes should be small so that the pacing of the game can be gradual.
- No "alien intervention", "meteors from space" or "cosmic radiation". Unless I, the GM, specifically state, all changes occur only through environmental pressure.
- No joke or fetish changes. This is /tg/, which may be /d/-lite, but not /d/. Unless it's actually a dick, it shouldn't look like a human phalus. Also, don't draw dicks, it's a SFW board.
- Do not claim creatures. The thread gets bumped more, there are more changes, and the game is more exciting if anyone can make changes to anything.

So to start with, we've got three life forms. They are simple life but enough to fill a food chain. You, the player, may name them as you so choose.

>The Green Guys
A clump of algae-like plant matter which makes its living off of solar energy and transfering water from one to the other. They thrive near the surface where the water is shallow but sometimes will drift off in the current. They reproduce when parts of the clump leave the main clump.

>The Blue Guys
A race of small detrivores which scuttle around the ocean floor looking for things to eat. They have no eyes and have the sensory capabilities of a planarian. They reproduce by laying eggs.

>The Red Guys
Barnacle like filter feeders light enough to float through the water sucking up the green guys and the blue guys. They have no senses, but are able to "move" using primitive muscles that can shoot water out from one end through the other (along with waste products). Their reproduction is through spores.

OP here introducing a new mechanic: Survival! Every ten or so changes, each species rolls to see if it survives the time period. There may be catastrophic or not so catastrophic events which affect the survival of species. Each star represents 1d4. Two stars represent 1d6, three 2d4, four 1d12, five 2d6, six 3d4, seven 4d4, eight 3d6, nine 1d20, and ten 1d10.

Due to the unpredictable nature of wind currents, the Sail algae often times find themselves stranded in areas of nutrient poor water for long periods of time. To cope with this fact, Sail algae have lost their small external nutrient pods, and have developed a large internal nutrient bladder, increasing their size.

The Hands begin to live in tight clusters on the ocean floor. This comes from both an abundance of nutrition in certain areas and high reproduction. When the nutrient is low in the soil and water, the weakest dies quickly, allowing natural selection to continue.

The primitive munchers use these clusters as protection against predators and strong currents as well as eating the dead Hands.

For the first chapter in the history of the planet, all is surprisingly well. The waters were pristine and the twin suns offered more than enough light to the blue planet. The ripe conditions allowed life to evolve rather rampantly even between just three simple species. The three proliferated into thousands of species creating their own ecosystems and so forth. Such smooth sailing could not last, however.

A small white dot appeared in the skies above, Gradually, it began growing in size until it was no longer but a dot, rather a large meteor headed straight for the planet- in fact, it was just about planet sized. Were the species ready for 1st impact?

Everybody roll Xd10, where X is the number of stars representing a creature's survival rating. The difficulty is set at 20. Anything below 20 is extinct.

The Linking Saucers used to reproducing in the normal way of their ancestors by simply allowing parts of them to split off and form new colonies found this ineffective, the split off buds already connected to the organism by the roots and only serving to make the current colony larger.

The Linking Saucers begin to develop larger nutrient sacks that grow as nutrients are gathered. The nutrient sacks grow a tougher "shell" around them than the stick, squishy outside of the rest of the Linking Algae's mass.

Eventually this shell would dry up on one side when the nodule got big enough and pop up to form somewhat of a sail that would catch the wind and pull it off the plant to start a new single Linking Saucer elsewhere

Thanks

A thousand years pass. The impact which hit the planet was certainly devastating, including to populations of the Hand Feeders and Wart Saucers which have gone extinct. The impact was large enough that several rocks flew off to become part of a large asteroid belt, and over a thousand years, a few rocks still close enough to the planet formed into a large moon controlling tides. A moon was not all the asteroid caused.

The planet now has a slight tilt on its axis, creating seasons as well as frozen polar zones. Small icecaps form at said poles, causing a gradual global cooling- just enough for small islands of land to form. It begins- time for the creature stage.

Offshot of this guys (and totally not a Cooksonia):

Around the few hot springs that as popped out on land, the Not-Cooksonian plants are growing in numbers. The enormous amount of nutrients from the hot waters allow the plant to focus on absorbing sunlight, evolving pairs of "branches" that then split into a new pair and so forth. The entire plant is photosynthesizing and while they are quite small, they grow in numbers.

Remember these guys? When land began to appear, they followed their prey up upon it. However, these guys evolved another kind of strategy. They dig down into the wet sand or mud right below the waterline. When the water receedes during the tides, they extend their head-part, which will be buried underwater along with its now stationary body. They will eat whatever they find and their long neck can grab things that are still wrigling. Their poisonous feelers both help subdue their stranded pray but also feel vibrations through the sand.

However, the rest of the body evolved with their new lifestyle. Their anus has elongated in order to dispel fecal matter so that it doesn't concentrate around its buried body. It is by far the most complex muscle on the create.

The Linking Saucers, content to stay in the water, not that they had a choice being nothing but floating plants and all, continued to grow in size, colonies merging with other colonies, free floating single linking saucers not yet to find a colony, some colonies reaching sizes surpassing the existing islands on the planet, and each one functioning as a single organism, sharing their roots, nutrients and sunlight with one another.

As the colonies grew soon only the outer saucers could actually spread their seeds, the inner ones simply not getting enough wind to separate the pods from the plants or not enough to push the pods out to sea. these inner pods instead began to grow on top of their parent colony, roots growing though the soft outside of the algae down to the water, linking this second layer of algae to the main colony and the water below.

Their reproduction is similar to >>25762649
