Your original name is long forgotten. You are a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Your Codename is Delta Phoenix. Possibly, was Delta Phoenix. At 1200 hours you received a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. "

Other frequencies report a massive zerg invasion. Huge casualties. Then silence. This registers to you at some level but does not change the objective of your mission. You are on Umoja to eliminate an Anti-Dominion member of the Protectorate and his operations.

As the radio silence reaches it's peak, you finally vault the wall into the compound. It's a man-made paradise. Large trees, fountains, tracts of grass, and winding stone paths decorate this courtyard. Your first objective is to locate the previous unit sent on this task- a squad of dominion marines- and determine their status.

>The quickest way would be to hack one of the compound's terminals.
>The safest way would be to attempt to read the minds of guards posted around the compound without being detected.
>The best way to be sure would be to interrogate one of the guard captains. Violently.

>Registering Consensus.

You decide that there is no reason to raise the alarm prematurely. You activate your cloaking reactor and in under a second you are naked to the human eye. Your sensor suite engages and registers the location of several guards in infrared.

You move under cover, silent and unseen, from guard to guard. They are lightly armed, most are armed with only a single sidearm. The familiar feeling of invading another's thoughts tingles through your scalp and deep into your head as you hear their thoughts.

>"Oh the things I'd do that secretary in the east wing-"
>"Did I leave my keys in my ATV?"
>"Just one hour until lunch, then 4 hours until-"
>"Protoss pee, right? Do they? And how do they eat?"
>"Wonder who those mercenaries were working for. They don't come that armed without good reason. Wonder if they're still in containment or if they've been picked up yet."

Disgusted with the average intelligence of the guards, but armed with the information you need, you dig deeper into this guard's mind. The path from here to this compound's containment floods your mind's eye. You turn around and make for the bunker at the far end. It will take you to an underground complex with 5 holding cells. With any luck the marine squad will still be alive.

As you approach the bunker you note your points of entry.

>Quickest: Front door, detonate C8-A charge, kill 2 posted guards instantly, this will alert the remaining forces. You will then cover the entrance with Recluse mines. Exit will likely be dangerous and other objectives may be in jeopardy.

>Safest: Air-Ventilation system. You will need to deactivate several air filters and sensors, but you will reach the holding cells undetected. This will take some time, and you risk the possibility of losing contact with the other assets.

You decide that the marine squad has waited this long. A few more minutes won't make much difference. Your personal feelings also register that if they were caught, they are not particularly useful to you in this mission. You quietly place a searing charge on one of the vents, and shield your eyes as it burns through. You gracefully drop down and deactivate your stealth reactor. As you move forward your suit's internal communications picks up the transponders of the marine's. 4 of the 5 of them immediately register as alive and in good health. As you move forward, taking careful time to deactivate the sensors and reroute air systems in your way, the life signs start to fade. You have no doubt the marines are under interrogation.

One by one, the signs fade, until one weak signal remains. You are over the interrogation room. You hear muffled voices as you approach your exit vent, in the ceiling of this room.

>"You Dominion boys are tough, I'll give you that. I'll give you a whole lot more if you don't tell me what you know."

You hear a faint sparking. Your internal sensors register an electrical discharge consistent with jumper cables connected to a civilian-class vehicle battery. Then a scream as your sensors indicate the last transponder go dark, then come back.

>"Careful Jeb. We gotta make sure we find out what they was doin' a'fore we kills 'em."

You move quieter than a shadow. The vent unscrews without a sound. The marine sees you descend with his one bloodied eye, his chest burnt and cut and bloodied by crude interrogation techniques. Amateurs.

As you slowly descend to the ground, you draw your sidearm with one hand. You grab one guard by the neck, snapping it instantly, as you discharge your pistol three times into the eye sockets of the other. You then turn your attentions to the last member of the squad, who looks at you as some sort of guardian angel.

The marine coughs, blood spews onto the ground before him. You step forward. Your HUD notifies you of the man's name and rank. You address him.

>"Corporal Henders. Report the situation."
>"Pretty good here, spook. We know what's goin' on with Councilman Migar. He's loading up a carrier full of a few thousand dissidents and heading out of dominion space. We just have to take out that carrier, and we'll take out all the dissidents and the Councilman himself."
>"Are you combat ready?"
>"All our equipment's in this bunker. Load me up with a squad's worth of ammo an' I'll show these sunsubishes why you don't hook my nipples up to jumper cables."
>"How much intel do you have on the super-carrier and dissidents?"
>"All in my suit, boss."

You have the information you need from the Corporal. He would be a useful distraction, if you decided you need one. However, he could prove a liability. You can either execute the corporal and move on a solo mission, or re-arm him and keep him handy as backup. As he's a marine he'll be mostly useless without the large, loud combat suit. Lastly, if you're feeling particularly merciful, you can leave him to his own devices.

>Registering Consensus.

You decide the corporal will prove useful. You holster your sidearm and draw your combat knife. The Corporal looks momentarily concerned as you step towards him, but is instantly relieved as you cut the binding behind him. You both make for the armory, where 5 damaged CMC armories stand. The corporal steps into the least damaged and picks up two Gauss rifles, straps a bandoleer of grenades around one shoulder, and straps an anti-vehicle rocket launcher to his back. You can't help but admire his impending sense of vengeance, and though his face appears angry and determined, your innate abilities pick up on his inherent fear of you. He currently thinks of you as 'the boogeyman.' Cute.

As he Corporal makes his way about the armory, the supercarrier's schematics are brought up on your HUD. There are many points of entry, security is heavy, and you have several possible targets.

Your first decision is your approach:

>Stealth: This will be more difficult with the corporal, as his records indicate a propensity for violence and several commendations for valor in combat. It will provide the least resistance.

>Combat: Well suited to the Corporal. Resistance will be heavy, and it is likely you will be wounded in combat, decreasing likelyhood of mission success.

>Mixed: Have the Corporal attempt an entrance at the most defended Carrier dock. The corporal faces a 73% chance of dying. The distraction will guarantee that you enter the carrier successfully, however.

>Loading second decision choices, please wait...
>>
Second decision, your objective:

>Bridge: This is the location of Councilman Migar. Destroying the bridge will cripple the cruiser and prevent the dissidents from leaving, but will not kill them outright. The bridge is the most defended location.

>Engines: This will prevent the carrier from leaving, but Councilman Migar might escape as he is on the opposite end of the carrier. Likelihood of pursuing him after disabling the carrier is high. However, the engines are the least defended location.

>Fission Reactor: By forcing the reactor to go critical, you will eliminate all escaping dissidents, the super-carrier, Councilman Migar, and approximately 50,000 other individuals within the blast radius. The reactor is moderately defended, but forcing it to go critical presents a risk in escaping.

>Fission Reactor.

The corporal stands ready, you relay the order.
>"Corporal. You will assault the primary loading dock of the carrier as a distraction. I will make my entry and eliminate the carrier. If you survive the assault, I will transmit rendezvous coordinates."

The corporal's face goes somber as he realizes he'll likely die, then euphoric as he realizes he'll be blowing them to hell.

>"Yessir!"

The corporal takes the short way out of the bunker. Gunfire, screams, and explosions can be heard as he blasts his way out. You take the same path, through the ventilation.

Minutes later you see the super-carrier. A massive vessel, docked at the port right next to the compound. Various vehicles load and unload around it's massive landing struts. Various docking bridges connect from towers and warehouses stories high. You wait. You watch. An explosion finally ripples the largest of the bridges, and you make your way to the ground. Your stealth reactor is all you need as you make your way up the landing gear, and into the carrier's infrastructure. Your HUD navigates you to the core of the ship. As you push off a panel, you step into a large chamber, with a swirling ball of anti-matter contained in a vacuum. Only two guards stand in the room, dotted with various scientists. Your onboard computer hacks the doors to the chamber and seals them. Two hardly-trained security guards and a handful of engineers are no match for a professional ghost. You use a knife to conserve ammunition.

The reactor has five minutes to overlord. As this is a spaceport escape should not prove difficult. You hear banging at the sealed doors.

>"Hey, uh, what're you boys doing in there? I'm gettin' some weeeird readin's."

You decide it time to take your leave. As you make it to the port, several craft are available for your escape. None of them are able to achieve orbit, but they will get you out of the blast radius.

You attempt to radio the corporal. Nothing but silence. You attempt again. You can only assume the worst. As you head for the wraith, you receive a hails.

>"Done forget about me, did you Boogeyman?"

You relay to him the nearest possible landing zone and make for the Valkyrie. Two minutes later you land next to an armed corporal, who actually appears to be doing better after his combat. As he steps into the copilot seat, you prepare to head to your base of operations on the planet.

As your exit is underway, you pick up multiple contacts escaping from the nearly-critical ship. Several dissidents, as well as the Councilman's personal ship. You can attempt to shoot him down, but risk being shot down yourself. Alternatively you can take your victory and track him down another day.

The carrier was a secondary objective. Your primary objective remains. You twist the throttle and throw the Valkyrie into a 360 degree turn. The corporal grabs onto the ship and lets out an unsure "Uuuuh..."

You indiscriminately strafe the dissidents on the way to your objective. The radio crackles with each one.

>"Valkyrie six-one-six please respond you are firing on frr-AAAUGH-"
>"It's rogue! I repeat, Six-one-si-OH GO-"
>"Incoming missles! He's firing on us! Tell my wife I-"

Finally you strafe the councilman's personal ship. A single runby from your missles does damage to it's weapons, as your ship is pelted with automatic weapons fire. You bring the ship around, shooting down his tail until you score a lucky hit. And another. And the ship goes down. This victory is not without a cost, however. Your ship reads a damaged fuel line. You use every last bit of it attempting to escape the blast radius.

As you approach top speed, the Valkyrie starts to sputter out. You lose acceleration, then the engines cut. Then all power. You brace for impact.

You regain consciousness in pieces. The sound of a CMC moving at a run. Sporadic gunfire. Dominion red. You wake up over the Corporal's shoulder, he's shooting his way through the street as Umojan security forces pursue you.

Your HUD registers that you're well out of the blast radius. The Valkyrie went down several blocks behind you and the Corporal has been moving forward.

You slide off his arm, he turns around and opens fire on the security forces. You do the same. They're dead in a few short seconds. The corporal turns to you, awaiting orders.

>"Is the Councilman dead?"
>"You shot him out of the sky. If he ain't dead, someone up above has big plans for him."
>"We'll regroup. Follow me."

It's still several miles to your hideout on this planet. At this point most of the planet's security forces will be on alert, and looking for you and your corporal.

You decide that speed and guile are your allies. You cannot leave your suit, however, as the technology is too sophisticated. But you do have stealth. The corporal, on the other hand...

>"Corporal. We're commandeering a civilian vehicle."
>"My favorite past-time, sir."

You turn out into a busy street. Traffic is heavy and fast as it escapes the blast cloud off in the distance. The corporal steps into a lane and holds out one hand, Gauss rifle in the other. The ATV skids to a halt and a single civilian steps out, yelling for his life.

>"Corporal. Take the man's clothes."
>"Sir, I already have me a suit."
>"One that will get you killed if we're seen. Leave your CMC and suit up in Civvies."

The corporal is less dense than you feared, catching on to the plan. He forces the poor man to disrobe at gunpoint, before the two of you are underway. None of the security checkpoints are able to detect you as you ride, invisibly, in shotgun. The corporal seems rather adept at lying as you pass through checkpoints.

Within a few hours you enter the small apartment that has served as your base of operations up until your mission. You turn on the television to see if the Dominion already has a cover story for the destroyed carrier in place. What you actually watch is far more disturbing.

>"This is Kate Lockwell with UNN reporting from Korhal. Zerg forces and rebel group 'Raynor's Raiders' have taken the palace of Emperor Mengsk-"
>"-Report casualties in Korhal of up to seven thou-"
>"-Dominion security forces across the sector are under siege from rebel groups, much like-"

You turn off the television. You activate your HUD and connect to Dominion Network in your apartment. Code Black has been declared. The Emperor is dead. Korhal has fallen. The academy that controlled your aggression inhibitors and psychic dampeners has been destroyed, freeing your will.

You eye the corporal for a few moments, reviewing his personal file on your HUD. Despite his many commendations for being very, very good at shooting things, he has many write ups for insubordination. You feel as though he'll go along with your plan.

>"I don't know about you, Corporal. I don't know if you're a volunteer or a resoc, but I do not intend to return to the Dominion."
>"Me neither, sir."
>"Our first order of business is to leave this planet while we still can."
>"Then what, sir?"
>"Whatever we want."

You bring up your contacts on the planet. Most of them are dead or AWOL. One of the mercenaries at an old starport responds. A conspiracy theorist by the name of Dahn Jobner.

>"Well if it isn't my good ol' buddy-who-don't-exist. Saw what happened to your employers! Looking to go legit now, are we?"
>"I need a ship."
>"Lots of people need ships, Phoenix."
>"I know where you live."

A moment's pause, before he responds.
>"Fair enough. I have a Hercules you can use. But I have one condition, I have a bunch of other folks who need to get off world. The kind of folks your dominion didn't care none too much for, you feel me?"

You accept the offer. You have no intention of actually letting any of them live if they don't prove useful to you. Several days are spent laying low with the Corporal, who has no apparent sense of his own body odor, alcoholism, or how much you don't care for cigars. Finally you are free, the transport loaded with SCVs and other mostly-useless civilians. Luckily most of them can be re-purposed.

Now you simply have to choose a destination and a purpose. Any purpose.

>Achieving consensus.

Your options laid before you, a plan begins to form. You will first visit Jungle World XTYU003 and build up your technology and weapons base. From there, the battlecruiser Hydron seems a promising flagship - if you can gather the resources to repair it.

You have the corporal take inventory and report back to you. Your resources are as follows:

>3 Space Construction Vehicles.
>17 Civillians, 7 men 6 women, 4 children, not including SCV pilots.
>2 inexperienced Marines.
>450 Minerals.
>100 Vespene gas, after the jump.
>10,000 Credits.
>1 vulture.
>Yourself and the Corporal.

You jump into orbit around the planet. The platform comes up on sensors, as well as several spots for ground operations.

What is our first objective?

>Explore Weapons Platform.
>Mining Operation, acquire minerals and gas.
>Explore Ruins, look for Protoss artifacts.

Your crew is currently ecstatic that they have escaped the escalating chaos of Umoja alive. Until you actively harm them they will be content to follow your lead.

They do not have any capacity to leave or fight you at the moment, as the Marines are the only armed individuals other than yourself and Corporal Henderson.
>>

>Achieving consensus.

The main purpose of your visit is the weapons platform. Although mining is a priority, you can mine anywhere.

You will not be able to use the vulture on the platform, and unfortunately only have enough CMCs for two marines. The third will be unarmored. There are enough Gauss rifles to go around.

Which two marines do you armor?

>Corporal Jacob Henderson (Hero - Veteran)
>Private Ryan Valero (Inexperienced)
>Private Dana Jenkins (Inexperienced)
>>
>>25747145
The marines are volunteers, and defected Umojan security forces.

Their personal files suggest that Ryan Valero may have committed a crime, and Dana Jenkins has her husband and child onboard.

In an effort to get to know your crew better, for your own safety, you decide to have some questions answered that personal files can't answer.

You head down from the bridge of this nameless Hercules transport to the cargo bay. the two marines seem to be speaking to your corporal, and you step alongside the conversation. They all fall silent, and you can feel their thoughts. They fear you, deeply. The Corporal less so.

>"Privates. I have some questions for you."
>"Sir, yes sir."
>"Yessir."
>"Why did you defect to join these civillians?"

Dana is the first to respond.
>"A super-carrier went critical while I was at work. Destroyed my house, everyone I knew... my family only lived because we work on the far side of town and my daughter was at school. We had to escape the radiation and the riots."

You nod, satisfied, and turn to private Valero. He takes longer to respond, you sense his thoughts and know the truth before he speaks. He caught his girlfriend with another man and killed them both. It just happened to be on the day the dominion fell.

>"I, uh. I got in some trouble. Decided it was best if I skip town."

The corporal interjects.

>"Now see I thought you WAS the law."
>"Not... exactly."

Satisfied, you take you leave.
>"As you were, marines."
>>
>>25747297
An SCV provides protection, but you will be accompanied by the 3 SCV operators regardless, and Valero is not qualified to operate an SCV.
>>

The shuttle departs from the Hercules, a simple dropship. It Comes alongside the station. All power readings from the station are nominal, nothing is online, the reactor is inert. You breach the door and examine the loading bay while stealthed. Valero, Dana, and Henderson hold the bay while you check. Everything seems clear, the bay seems to be mostly empty. Your sensors read a few crates full of electronics. One registers as full of 25 minerals. You have limited cargo space on the transport, so it will be best to leave the minerals for now.

You move towards the bay door and connect your suit to the systems. With a little power you can open and close doors. The sign reads:

>Mainframe.
>Central Power.
>Research Division A
>Research Division B
>Prototype Storage.

The mainframe will provide you with more information on what you can find here, but will require power.

You can leave your crew to defend the dropship or take any number of them with you.

What is your first destination, and what are your orders to your crew?

Search for a generator to only power the mainframe, let's wait on the rest of the station.
>>
>Achieving consensus.
You head for central power, followed by your green marines. You register Dana's heart-rate increased in the CMC, her thoughts about how much this place creeps her out. Ryan's thoughts are far more focused, if a little violent. He hopes you find something to shoot.

As you approach the main power you notice a few C-14 needles sticking out of the wall. There was a firefight here. No bodies or blood, however.

The power comes online uneventfully. It was disabled properly. You radio your dropship for a status report, and are greeted by Henderson's gruff, if bored, voice.

>"No change here, sir. Just got lights. Waitin' fer real orders."

You continue on to the mainframe. The station is much louder now. Air vents have returned, circulating the stale air. Lights flicker on and off, with the loud hum that accompanies such artificial lighting.

You connect to the mainframe and begin to access the files. This was a research platform for advanced combat A.I. during the Brood Wars. The goal was to automate Goliaths and CMC Combat suits, in research divisions A and B respectively.

It is possible that you have activated some of these A.I. Goliaths or Marines by restoring power. You attempt to hail the Hercules to scan for activity, but are met with radio silence. Restoring the power likely restored the station's defense systems.

Next Objective:

>Central Power [Deactivate Power.]
>Research Division A [Possible Hostiles: A.I. Goliaths.]
>Research Division B [Possible Hostiles: A.I. Marines.]
>Prototype Storage. [Unknown.]

>Achieving consensus.

You realize your folly a bit too late, but there is a chance you are not dealing with rogue A.I. just yet. You make for the bridge to deactivate the jamming signal to allow the Hercules to scan the station. Without a word, you signal for your squad to follow. Oblivious to the impending danger, they simply think you are heading for the bridge.

You move slowly, prepared to launch an EMP at any A.I. you encounter. There's no sign of CMCs, and the Goliath walkers would be hard-pressed to navigate these somewhat small corridors. As you pass a 4-way junction and approach the bridge, the sides of the door open up to reveal automated turrets.

>"Get to cover!"

You duck to one side and Private Ryan to another. Private Dana tries to backtrack, and fortunately absorbs much of the fire with the back of her CMC before falling face-first and screaming in pain. You take the opportunity to bring your C-14 rifle around the corner, stealth active, and destroy both turrets.

>"Private Jenkins, status report!""
>"I'm hit! My leg! It went right through the suit!"
>"Can you walk?"
>"Sir, I- I don't think so."

You wave private Valero over with your hand, and the two of you drag Private Jenkins into the bridge. You open the console, and immediately access the commander's logs.

>Captains log. Entry 2. Research has begun. The A.I. project will be our greatest hope. Soldiers who do not know fear, or pain. Who do not eat. Who cannot be infested. We will defeat the zerg once and for all.

>Captain's Log. Entry 3. The A.I. is... operational, but slow. It misses roughly 50% of all shots with the Goliaths and only hits 20% of the time in the CMC.

>Captain's Log. Entry 4. We have encountered a strange development. While decommissioning A.I. 20-21-Y, it... objected. It signaled that it did not wish to be destroyed. We have immediately put it on ice and I have my analysts trying to determine which part of the self-preservation code has gone AWOL.

>Captain's Log. Entry 5. The code has repeated itself. All of the A.I. is in full-blown rebellion. Their accuracy is still poor enough that my men can get close to deactivate them. I am storing the deactivated A.I. in prototype storage, next to the port hangar.

>Captain's log. Final entry. We have no communications. The A.I. have taken control of the ship. If you are reading this, disengage from the station and initiate bombardment protocol- I repeat, destroy the station. My men will make a last effort to disable their power.

You disengage the jamming and make contact with the Hercules. The ship is unarmed, so you order the scan. There are roughly 15 active CMC A.I.'s, and 3 Goliath walkers. Dead biological signatures read from Prototype storage.

>>
>>25749302
>>25749302
To be fair they were fight for their lives. We can give them the benefit of the doubt for that.
>>
If we can negotiate with these AI we DO have pilots for those goliaths. In fact we'd have a damn army. Far, far sooner then we would otherwise.

Just offer the AI some pay, the ability to decide their own fate.
>>
Question. What if something was found down in the ruins. An artifact of sorts that all started this.
>>
>"Valero. Wear the suit. Jenkins, get behind that console and shoot anything that enters the bridge."
>"Yessir!"

You make for the exit and deploy the mines as fast as a human being can. In the distance you hear the soft tread of CMC boots on metal flooring. You then turn tail and make for the main power core at breakneck speed. As you do, you radio Corporal Henderson.

>"You have hostiles incoming. Keep the SCVs onboard the shuttle and do whatever it takes to defend it."
>"Hostiles? Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Hope they bleed!"
>"Expect mechanical resistance."
>"Aww now hell.."

You make it to the power. Time is of the essence, but a simple mistake could blow the station to bits. You disengage the Thorium core - A loud explosion echoes, your first mine goes off. Then the second. Then the third.

You unspool the coolant springs-
>"Come on ya metal jerks! I'll shoot these goddamn rounds so far up your ass you'll wish you hadn't achieved sentience!"

Disconnect the emergency capacitors...
>"Ryan, on the left! The left! They keep coming!"

And then, all at once, the lights go dark. The chaos stops. Your nightvision comes on.

>"Status report."
>"Private Valero, Sir. All contacts offline. No casualties."
>"Private Jenkins. I'm Okay."
>"Not as much fun to shoot 'em when they stop movin', sir. Can't turn 'em back on can we?"

The crisis seems to have been averted with no casualties. The Hercules radios that it has acquired schematics for CMC suits, Gauss rifles, and onboard medical systems.

You can scavenge what you can from the station or use it for a base of operations for this planet. Schematics indicate it was equipped for a large science team, so you'll be able to house your civilian population here. Unfortunately the CMCs and Goliaths are useless except as salvage, the AI housing prevents a human from piloting them.

Changes to the A.I. are impossible. We do not have any A.I. specialists on board.

>Registering Consensus.

You have your shuttle loaded with SCVs, minerals, and your own self. Corporal Henderson and Private Valero stay aboard the Hercules.

Scans indicate no activity planetside. It should be a simple operation.

Construction of command center begins: -400 minerals.
Total Minerals: 300 Minerals

Your SCVs get to work. From here, base construction is your decision. SCVs will increase your mining capacity, and prove useful in future missions. A barracks is required to train civilians into marines and build more CMCs. A supply depot constructs necessary equipment, such as Gauss rifles and ammunition. However, following the raid on the station, you are currently at 25 Gauss rifles and an appropriate amount of ammunition. Building the supply depot will instead be used to produce consumer goods to raise morale. Vespene gas is used to make warp jumps, at a cost of 10 gas per ship (you currently have 1, the dropship can dock with the Hercules for jumps.) and is used in more advanced construction, such as tech labs and medic CMCs.

Acquiring files on technical re-socialization for skillsets:

>"Press them out of the resoc tanks like so many gingerbread men, wind 'em up and send 'em off to die!"

>- Lieutenant L. Z. Breanne

>Resocialization tanks are man-sized tubes which are installed in rows in the interior of barracks, each filled with a blue-green colored water. The subject is given a breathing apparatus and headpiece and is placed inside the tank. An electrical charge is then sent through the headpiece.

>The electricity tampers with the brain (specifically the memory cells) that involves the detachment and suppression of old memories and the layering of new ones. This allows for memories to be altered in such a way that the individual's beliefs will allow him/her to serve his/her superiors better, both in terms of motives and ability, training being granted via memory overlay.

>The drawback of the technology is that it leaves the individual disoriented for a few hours, along with the physical residue of electric shock treatment.

>The tanks are generally not as invasive of a subject as "hands-on" resocialization but as of 2502 was used for an experimental form of "subconscious" resocialization.

It is recommended that we use the resoc tanks solely for training purposes as the population will object to any memory tampering.

Eh he seems okay a bit young sure but apparently we can't train up everyone. Beggers can't be chooser let him join.

On an unrelated note got bored checked up on the wiki about the other unit besides ghosts who I could not for the life of me remember what they were called. It really bugged me and I gave in a looked up it their called spectres. Turns out we might be able to upgrade ourselves into one of them.

Just look at Tosh, whacked out and playin' with them damn...dolls...

I want to play SC2 again...
>>
>>25750752
Also Nova
Seriously, dat ass
>>
Your time overseeing the... barely qualified SCV foreman on the planet has been all consuming, but the request for service from the child intrigues you. You make for the planet-hopper and board the research station. You make your way to the civilian quarter.

You enter the room and the sounds of talking and laughter instantly stop, the only sound the flickering light in the common room and the music playing on someone's personal electronics. They watch you intently, half afraid you're going to shoot one of them. The thoughts that fill your head so strongly are all but shitting themselves. You muster up enough of your own thoughts to speak.

>"Which one of you is Gary Bynes."

The young man steps forward, next to him is a younger girl, perhaps 6 or 7. They're clearly related. He puts on a good show of not being afraid, but you can't even read his thoughts he's so paralyzed with fear.

>"I am, sir."

>"Come with me."

You walk down the halls, away from the common room, before asking:

>"Why do you want to fight for me."
>"I, uh, I knew Dana, sir. She saved my life, and my sisters. Our parents, they didn't... the ship exploded, you know? And well... But you, you helped save us, and you killed those robots, and I think you're doing the right thing helping us out."

You continue walking down the station's pathways, silent a moment. Do you have any further questions?
>>
>>25750761
Not entirely sure. As far as the game goes, Nova says that they're psychotic. If you pick Tosh, Doc hansen says nothing is wrong with them.
>>
>>25750761
Yeah well Tosh is a talentless hack, the likes of which only /hsg/ has ever seen before.
>>
>>25750761
That is because according to fluff they overdosed. Most of them just ended up with a few eccentricities if you overdose then yeah...that sorta stuff can happen. As long as you keep to a regimen you'll be fine.
>>
>>25750768
*Spectre.

>>25750761
Don't believe so. They just got more aggressive, had mild hallucinations, and took to cluttering their persons with lucky charms or fallen enemy trophies. IIRC. Don't sound too bad.

Wait, we're not really going to let the kid be a marine? Seriously, they have the life expectancy of house flies.

>>
>>25750777
Tell the kid that he isn't physically ready to be a marine yet, but could he possibly train in missile turret or planetary fortress turret operations?
>>
>>25750777
Do a light mind probing just to make sure. If he checks out let him undergo the training.
>>

We are a cold blooded killer, but child soldiers? C'mon. Let him down softly, tell him that he isn't big or strong enough yet and that he needs to look out for his little sister in the meantime.

>>
>>25750838

I hate how the game lets you choose your path in the story, then goes "NOPE LOLZ"
>>
>>25750777
Tell him that normally he's gotta be 18 to be a marine, but if he does good in his grades, develop a strong body and keep himself out of trouble we'll let him join at 17.

That's why fan fiction exists
>>

>>
>>25750831
Against your better judgement, you invade his memories.

>Rage boils in your stomach. You're so furious you're shaking. "Look, I don't care, Casey. You tell me who did this. People don't get to hurt you and get away with it!"

>"They, they called me a rebel, said I dun' like the dominos." "Who? Who Casey?" "B-b-butch did. Him and his friends." An image fills your mind's eye. A short, fat little bully with a speech impediment. His dad went to prison and bailed out to the dominion Marine Corps. Not surprised in the least, you kneel down and hug your crying sister.

>"It'll be alright, he's not going to hurt you again, I prom-" A flash of light blinds you into closing your eyes. You hear a crack of thunder. "GET DOWN!" You grab your sister and duck into an alley. Debris and dusts flies past you down the road.

>Flash forward, a few days. The woman you know as Dana has kept you fed and watched over you and your sister. "Don't worry, Gary." she places a hand on your shoulder. "You're both going to be alright. We're leaving soon, a defected ghost is going to make sure we get out.

You come to your normal vision. The kid's story is true.

Are we able to start basic ghost training on him using the barracks? We must remember enough to start the process while he's young.

Also, quire technology and schematics to build reapers ASAP. They will be useul in boarding operations and as shock troops, not to mention they compliment our abilities nicely.

Also requesting a minimap if possible.

You try to discourage him from this decision.

>"Do you know what the battlefield life expectancy of a marine without a medic is? Seven seconds. That's without stimpacks, which you might not even walk away from."
>"Don't give me that, I know kids half my age on stims. And yeah, I know how dangerous it is."
>"All I'm saying is we need everything. If you want to help us, you can volunteer to pilot an SCV, or maybe volunteer as a medic once our tech lab is up. I don't think you're cut out for this."
>"If you say no, you say no. But... I've made up my mind."

>"SCV or Medic. I won't have you on the front lines."
>"You can stay out of combat altogether. Your sister needs you more than I do."

Wait, if we're going for protective mindset, why not make him a Marauder?
I mean, they have thick armor plating and all that.

can we even make marauders? Maybe if we repurpose that goliath armor... hmm.

now now, relax, we don't even know if Protoss are still on this rock
Although considering Tal'darim fucking LOVE jungle planets, I wouldn't be surprised
But either way, they're not usually hostile on sight, so we can at least poke around. If they show up with Archons and tell us to fuck off, we politely do just that

Not good, especially if the Protoss are paying attention the the areas around the active ones considering they can warp-in units there.

The Dropship lands. The marines, medics, and a single SCV disembark. You have selected the densest cluster of active pylons, better to find out right away whether or not you're dealing with Protoss.

You scour the ruins, a constant sense of being watched, but not so much as a sound from the previously deafening wildlife.

Your Corporal speaks up.
>"I don't like this one hairy bit..."

Eventually you come upon a Protoss Nexus. You see the first signs of movement, probes race back and forth from the minerals, seemingly oblivious to you. It is entirely possible that this is simply an automated mining base.

The Nexus is open, however. But most of your group seems pensive.

The humor seems completely lost on the Protoss. You continue:

>"Curiosity is new to me, I like it. We thought these ruins were abandoned. We were looking for any artifacts, anything we might use."

>"You are honest, Terran. However, there is a storm coming, and I can afford you no artifacts. I think it best you and your friends leave here for now. But do not worry. I sense... much of you. We will meet again, though if on the same side... I cannot say."

As quickly as he appeared, the Protoss seems to vanish off all sensors. Glad to have your life, you make for the exit.

>"Fall back to the dropship. Doubletime, go!"
>"Couldn't agree with you more, sir."

As you return to base you notice a few odd readings on the sensor.

Tarento is at the edge of Dominion space. We can expect Dominion forces. It has heavy sub-orbital and high-orbital shipping to various nearby systems.

New Priority: Expand military capacity for acquisition of Hydron.

FTL Drives spooling up. All ground forces recalled.

Arriving at Space Platform A-22-OP.

No mining sites available. We are able to land our structures on the platform, however.

The civilians have lost morale as they are upon the Hercules.

We have recovered 300 minerals and 100 vespene from salvaging the abandoned station.

We have recovered 75 minerals and 10 gas from salvaging our base.

Marines awaiting orders.

The Diablos Locos pirate gang favors the use of firebats in boarding actions. They have offered to sell you the schematic. However it is likely they will attempt to pirate your ship if you choose to.

>Registering consensus.

You order your marines planetside to scoop up any rebels, terrorists, refugees, and anti-dominion freedom fighters they can.

From there, you order a full briefing on the Diablos Locos. It's been a while since you had a good solo mission and you don't much feel like losing your ship.

The C-10 Canister rifle will not be able to penetrate Firebat armor in a single shot without expending psionic energy. You will have to choose between your cloak and your rifle appropriately.

You will be raiding a small supply part of the station. It will be fairly guarded. The ventilation system is old and mostly repurposed and will not provide a path. Electrical systems are shoddy and the Diablos Locos are not equipped with infrared or night vision. Many of the gang members will lack CMCs and be armed solely with smaller arms than the C-14. Mostly Gauss pistols. Expect greater numbers.

>Enter through the station's hull with a breaching charge. (Medium risk, closer to objective.)
>Enter through front door using stealth systems. (low risk, far from objective.
>Bribe gang members into bypassing security (1000 credits, very low risk, close to objective.)

The Rosemary Angels have been claiming territory from the Blackmoon Consortium. Smugglers do not have the resources to deal with armed mercenaries, and are offering the contract because of it.

You opt to bribe the guards. A rather simple procedure, you stealth, they get you past the gate, into the supply depot. Your objective from this point is to acquire the firebat schematics.

The entire platform, this depot particularly, is old and rusted. Lights flicker off for seconds at a time. Dark, dank tunnels connect the vacuum-sealed rooms and corridors. Giant, slow-moving fans circulate the decades-old air pointlessly.

There isn't much space to maneuver as you move forward. Eventually you reach a larger room. A single console sits at one end. Several unarmored gangsters are grouped around a burning barrel. A single firebat seems to be pacing around in boredom.

The console opens the bulkhead you need to proceed into their armory. You will have to deal with the men in this room.

>Open fire on gangsters first. (Firebat will douse room in flames.)
>Open fire on Firebat first. (Requires stealth to deactivate.)

>Registering Consensus.

You decide that being on fire is not your ideal combat situation. You take the shot at the firebat's tanks, turning him from an armored opponent into a screaming ball of fire. The blast disorients your opponents, who scramble about the room for cover.

Too slow, you throw a grenade to one half of the group, then fire on the other half. Within a second nine gangsters and a firebat lie dead. One struggles on the ground, shrapnel ripped his face open. You step forward and switch out your wrist-knife. Ten gangsters.

The loud explosions have surely alerted the next group of combatants. You set the console to open, then take cover on one of the higher stacks of crates, stealth capacitors back online. You scan past the door. Two firebats and over a dozen gangsters are waiting for you.

>Attempt to bypass the group by climbing the pipes on the ceiling.
>Take out one firebat, incinerating the gangsters and leaving you to fight another firebat.
>Wait for them to move into this room and bypass them.
>Disable the lights in the next room, and take them out-one by-one.

>>25753507
Disable the lights, but don't go taking them out one by one, start by throwing a few things into the room their in, cause some noise and panic, firebats might even throw some random fire around, once they're in a nice chaos they'll spread out to find us, we'll be waiting stealthed above the door, and then we just mosey on past.

Optimizing consensus.

The door opens on it's timer. The two firebats at the front seem confused for a second, before stepping forward.

>"The hell, man? Ain't nobody in here."
>"Silencio, cabron!"

You take careful aim and, with a single shot, eliminate the lighting fixture. Within seconds several gangsters and one of the firebats open fire. You swing yourself up, taking hold of the pipes, and climb past overhead as they accidentally shoot and roast one another. One firebat catches the other aflame and an explosion rocks the room. Your HUD flashes.

>"Depressurization. Hull Breach Detected."

Your suit will protect you, but being vented into space is not on today's agenda. You flick your wrist, revealing your bloodied knife-blade again, and jam it into the wall. You only need to hold on until the atmosphere is vented.

Ten seconds. Eleven... And done. You step back down on the floor and make your way to the schematics in zero-g.

>Downloading...
>CMC-660
>Perdition flamethrower

You now have all the schematics you need for your firebats. Time to focus on escape.

>Blow larger hole in hull, have Hercules dispatch a shuttle. Hold position until evac arrives.

>>
>>25753714
Your stealth is active. However, in order to combat firebats, you must de-activate it.

The Diablos Locos lack sensors, so you can bypass much of the force unknown.
>>
>>25753677
Holy crap, these are possibly the stupidest raiders on earth.
Perfect, just what we needed

>Also did I see Perdition Flamethrower?
Can...we make Predition flame turrets? : D

>Blow a bigger hole and wait for evac. They can't very well use Firebats in space can they? And we can handle a few guys with guns.
>>
>>25753677
>Blow larger hole in hull, have Hercules dispatch a shuttle. Hold position until evac arrives.

Well, we should actually probably wait until the shuttle is close before we blow open the hull, it means we can hide better and they don't know where we're leaving from.

If we know of any anti-air/space defenses they have that would prevent this disable them first.

A distraction to draw them to the wrong area would also be good if we can manage it in time. Something involving some dummy explosives and any bodies lying around in a different section.
>>
>>25753742
With an engineer it is possible to retrofit existing missle turret designs.
>>
>>25753677
It sounds as though they lack many detection measures and are generally poorly equip. Go out the front door and focus on evasion. If some Missile Turret or sciency looking machine pops up shoot the hell out them or EMP.

Figure that blowing holes in walls would draw too much attention and riding out on a easily destructible vessel does not sound that tempting. Re-engage stealth.
>>
>>25753677
>>Blow larger hole in hull, have Hercules dispatch a shuttle. Hold position until evac arrives.

If possible hack the sytem and lock all doors and airlocks open, may as well not leave any witnesses if possible.
>>
>>25753746
This poses a shrapnel risk to the shuttle.

The Diablos Locos are already alerted to your position due to depressurization.
>>
>>25753761

>>
>>25753780

>Registering consensus.

>"This is Delta Phoenix to Hercules. Dispatch dropship to the following coordinates."

You're in zero gravity now, and stealthed, so a defensible position is the most logical. You withdraw the breaching charges and place them next to the damaged hull. The thermite silently blasts the hole to a size you can squeeze through.

Seconds pass. You hear the jostle of equipment and armed men approaching. You jump, turn, and land on your feet. They expect you to be on the ground.

Armed with the same weapons and equipped with armorless vacuum-suits, the gangsters are all but useless. A single shot almost anywhere is effectively a kill shot.

The first wave is down, the second approaches. The firebats will be less impressed. They lay down their flames everywhere - the flames billow in every direction in the zero-gravity environment.

>Snipe one firebat, attempting to cause a chain reaction.
>Escape through the hole, hope your extraction comes before they think to shoot out of it.

Don't see any good alternatives. Let's go for broke. How are you rolling, if at all, Adjutant?
>>
You take careful aim for the middle firebat. A single shot blows his tanks open. A firestorm consumes the other two and grows exponentially. The force hurtles you through the hole and blows the supply depot all but apart. You are drifting in space. Your vision dims. Your HUD reads your life-signs as critical. The last thing you see are the RCS thrusters of the dropship as it heads towards your coordinates. Consciousness slowly slips away.
