You are in Dorter, the trade capital of southern Erelund. You have just wasted a Black Mage's time having eye-balled her wares and turning away without buying anything. You're in town for a night, so you have some time to spare, unless you wish to return to the inn.

For fuck's sake, you stupid shit. We're with Ferra right now, and we don't have the Gil to waste on a prostitute.
>>

Players like you are the reason for so many of our failures and fuck ups.
>>
>>25796526

You make for the dubious alleyway, where Ferra shrinks under the gaze of the dark haired woman who, despite a missing tooth, is most comely and sultry, her eyes gleaming with invitation as she plays with a stray black curl. The alley itself is narrow, leading around one bend and another. Curiously, you pass a Black Mage in a blue travelling robe over scuffed cloth pants and well-worn travelling boots. He sits with his legs folded, his head tipped low so that even his eyes are obscured by his wide hat. At his feet lie a few coins, but he does not stir at all to claim them.

And further down the alley brings you out to the back square of a residential area. The roads in from the surrounding neighbourhoods have been barred off, and the backdoors of the surrounding houses are all boarded up, but for one. Women stand all along the veranda, all in low-cut dresses, bare thigh and belly and even buttock on display. Ferra freezes at the sight, even gasps as the sight of one who wears what can only be called a liberal depiction of a white mage, wearing a short cloak in the red and white fashion, with a hood up over brown hair and a round cheeked, freckled face. But besides that, it's but a bodice that covers the rest of her body, and even that is lacey enough to display most of Another woman in a Red Mage's hat and a red babydoll fingers at the belt of a man standing on the bottom step of the veranda.

"T-t-this isn't a good place," Ferra mumbles, a more vibrant shade of red than her own hair, as she tugs at your sleeve, trying to usher you back out the alley.

You wonder if you agree, as a tall, graceful woman with ebony skin, wearing but a lion skin cloak, the paws over her small breasts, and a chainmail codpiece, grins her bright white teeth at you from the second storey window.

The fourteen year old White Mage smacks you in the back of the knee with the metal tipped rod she keeps hidden in her robes.

"You're horrible! I can see why the White didn't fit you, I'm going off to find Horry!" she fumes, turning on her heel and indignantly marching back down the alley. Although it canes, your leg isn't too badly traumatised.

"Seems like your date doesn't like your idea of romance," chuckles the dark-skinned whore. "Worry not, Red Mage, I'm a lot open-minded when it comes to romance."

Reluctantly, you bid the brothel farewell and turn to follow Ferra. You catch her as she almost reaches the mouth of the alley, but she is still red and all too angry. As soon as you reach her, she stamps on your foot so hard that, for a moment, you think she might've broken a toe. Only a quick wiggle makes you realise she hasn't.

"Y-you better not get any ideas! I'm not like those girls so if you want that, you better just go back!"

You can tell she won't be easily placated. You can try talk her down or you can simply lead her elsewhere for the moment.

It would probably be better for the party to not rely on us in the long-run. Our choices have shown that we're not very dependable, we make fatal mistakes, and because of chucklefuck /b/-tards who want to go with the HUEHUEHUE options even though this is the harder, grittier style of Final Fantasy we will have a good chance of making stupid decisions just for the lulz.

It's been said before and it has to be said again, this quest doesn't pull any punches when it comes to consequences, and our silver tongue will only get us so far before we get a belly full of iron and steel.
>>
>>25797210
>>25797309
So this >>25797144
But instead of just "I'm Sorry, Ferra" include "You are right, though. I left the White Temple for a reason. A number of them. And I don't want you thinking I'm something I'm not, or depending on me to deliver something that I won't."
Elly depended on us, and look what happened when we didn't deliver.

"Well...," she replies glumly, for lack of a retort. However, she still follows you to the traveller's shop. A tired looking with a long, blue-painted goatee leans on the counter as a young boy with greased back hair kicks his legs off the counter, his mouth gaping as his blue eyes stare at Ferra with an intensity that makes the White Mage forget her anger with you, momentarily at least, in order to stick close to your side. After weary welcomes, the man buys two of your Bomb Fragments for 200 gil each. He gestures to his own stock, as well, as follows:

Potion: 155 gil
Hi Potion: 460 gil
Ether: 470 gil
Antidote: 185 gil
Eyedrops: 150 gil
Echo Grass: 210 gil
Soft:1280 gil
Omni Remedy: 2200 gil
Frost Fang: 160 gil
Fire Fang: 160 gil
Thunder Fang: 160 gil
Steel Armlet: 100 gil
Chainmail Cloak: 200 gil
Phoenix Down: restores health to those fatally wound or otherwise near death 1000 gil
Tent: a place to sleep 100 gil
Wardstone: protects and heals those who stay near it 250 gil

We need Echo Grass because we could get Silenced in the Swamp. Soft we shouldn't need.
We have 4 Antidotes, and 13 Potions.

We have 1100Gil total, between everyone.
Let's buy 2 Echo Grass, 1 Potion.

Who can use the Steel Armlet and Chainmail Cloak, and are they accessories? What's their defense rating?

Will the Silence effect go away on its own in a few hours, or is Echo Grass needed to cure it? Cecil SHOULD know this already.

>>25797520
How many days is the trip to Matoya's Cave expected to take? We need to factor that into our purchases.
>>
>>25797582

Looking at your map and comparing distances already travelled, you'd think about five days. But you notice that there are no roads leading directly to it. This would make it much harder to judge. It could take up to double that amount of time.
>>
>>25797620
10 days, with another 10 days back, not including any time spent inside the cave.
That's at least 100Gil of rations.

Is the Tent like the one in the games, that's used up after one use? Or can it be used repeatedly?
>>
>>25797492

Forgot to mention, Steel Armlets are good for parrying, and thick enough to withstand most weapons that aren't unreasonably powerful, and a chainmail cloak can catch lighter blows and projectiles, even lessen the impact of magic. Would you guys like to go ahead and buy the 2 Echo Grass and Potion?
>>
>>25797700

The tent will last until it's destroyed. Wardstones are used alongside the tent and can each be used five times. They're best if your party is in a place known to be heavy with monsters. A Wardstone must be entirely stationary whilst it's activated.
>>
>>25797723
I vote yes.
That's 575 gil.
I want to get that Chainmail Cloak, but we only have 1 Tent, and if we camp without a Wardstone and the Tent gets destroyed by a monster attack, we're screwed.

I think we should get a second Tent, and check out the armour shop before deciding to buy the Chainmail Cloak.
>>
>>25797748
Didn't you say in FFQVII that Wardstones can only be used 3 times?
>>
>>25797835

(Well spotted, that's my mistake. I think I should set up a wiki for all sorts of already established info...)
>>
>>25797866
A Wardstone being able to be used 3 times versus 5 times is a big difference.
We'll have to use them more sparingly then.
>>
>>25797779

Your purchase is made. You've lost 575 gil, leaving you with 525, and earning you another Potion and two Echo Grass besides, a choice that earns a choice nod from Ferra, who still looks a touch sour.

You can also sell off any unwanted goods you have, or you can make your way out. And if you like, you can still go with the sentiment provided here:
>>25797358
>>
>>25797938

Normally when you travel, you've been in areas peaceful enough to get away with simply keeping a guard up in the night, but you do know there are places too dense with beast to trust sleeping without a stone up. That's why it's always a good idea to keep one on your person, you think.
>>
>>25797942
Let's sell off Cecil's Iron Shortsword at the Weapon Shop, then see if there's something better than leather armor at the armour shop.
If there isn't, then we'll go to sleep.
>>
>>25798003

The iron sword gets you a mighty 80 gil. You won't miss it, though. The armour shop owner is, surprisingly, a dwarf. His short stature necessitates a stool for him behind the counter, his skin black as coal with bright, orange eyes and a bushy beard growing from an almost perfectly spherical nose. He wears chainmail and a horned helm common of his kind. Though you wonder if the armour is necessary to own an armour shop. You take a look over his wears.

Wooden Shield: 100 gil
Leather Shield: 150 gil
Iron Shield: 200 gil
Steel Shield: 250 gil
Mythril Shield: 1400 gil
Steel Gloves: 210 gil
Mythril Gloves: 1400 gil
Leather Cap: 140 gil
Steel Helm: 200 gil
Mythril Helm: 1350 gil
Leather Armour: 160 gil
Chain Mail: 220 gil
Iron Plate: 300 gil
Steel Plate: 400 gil
Mythril Plate: 2800 gil

He apologises for the lack of wares, commenting that the announcement of a war had most of his better sells snatched up in a matter of days.
>>
>>25798177
How does the Chain Mail stack up against the Chainmail Cloak? Does it also have the slight magic defense of the Cloak?
>>
>>25798201

Given that it doesn't loosely hang but is rather clad to the body, it provides more protection, in general, covering the arms and front of the body. It provides protection, like the mail, but it's only against the lightest kinds of magic.
>>
>>25798224
I vote we take the Chainmail now, since it's what we can afford.
Considering that we're supposed to be a support caster/swordsman, we should equip the Chainmail on Conara, and sell her Leather Armor in the morning. That might give us enough to either get another set of Chainmail, or get another Wardstone from the Traveller's shop.
>>
>>25798264

(Any objections or seconds?)
>>
>>25798264

You buy the chainmail, leaving you 385 gil. Do you wish to return to the inn for the night? You can visit any of the other places mentioned before, if you wish.
>>
>>25798374
Go to the Rose Gardens and check out the Union.
Sounds like a the 'evil cult with a friendly facade' thing, and could lead to more power.
>>
>>25798412

Leaving off your new purchases with the rest of your inventory at the inn, you make your way to the Rose Gardens. You find it easily enough thanks to the signs pointing in its direction. That and it's big enough to be easily found. Expanses of cut grass are marked with cobbled pathways, decorated with single trees and bushes of the flower that give the garden its name. Red, white, blue, all different breeds of rose lend a colour to the place that you haven't seen since you visited the gardens of Corneria Palace. You can see the castle of Dorter from here, too. Unlike Corneria Palace, it's a simple, smaller place, a wall of grey stone around a taller, sturdier keep. But the meeting you seek is toward the centre of the garden.

Throngs of people surrounded the great, circular fountain. Some stand right at the edge of the fountain, others stand further, lending a turned ear and others, still, stand much too far to even hear, but watch the gathering with dubious interest. Some of these outliers include guards on duty, wearing their sigils, helms and spears.
>>
>>25798618

"... is not but one Goddess!" calls the man in the center of it all. Making your way in, and keeping an eye on Ferra so that she not get lost in the crowd. The man shouting stands in the fountain, the water reaching to his knees. He wears a robe, white and black sewn together in a pattern of twirls, thorns and spirals, white enveloping black, black enveloping white. His hood is worn up, his face unreadable from beneath thanks to a shadow that covers all but his grey beard. Two men, younger but similarly shadowed, stand on either side of them, each with a runed staff in hand.

"Cosmos and Chaos!" the leader bellows, opening one hand then the other. "Harmony and Discord! Light and Dark! The world exists in disparity, so why is it that we heed only the one side? Order reaches further than peace and safety. Corruption! Enslavement! Being bound by the invisible chains of those who hold no stock in your lives, no concern for your well being! Are there none among you who desire to live a life greater than your current tediums?"

A chorus of 'aye!' rises from the closer crowd, louder than you had anticipated, all those standing closest calling it most enthusiastically.

"Is it not human, natural, even, to bring change to the world, to stand as high as one can climb?!"

"Aye!"

"Then climb! For Chaos is not a God of hopelessness, chaos is not fear and false contentment! Chaos..." he holds up a fist. "Is power!"

"Cosmos!" he holds up his open hand. "Is power!"

Fist slams into hand. And then he spots you and Ferra. Luckily for the girl who is quickly turning white and, by your estimation, almost sick. He points to you.

"Red Mage! You mark yourself a practitioner of Black Magic... tell me, where do you think fire comes from? What changes the water into ice? Who is it who takes the sight of those who displease him?"

What's the standard Black Magic theory behind their power? Cecil probably knows it since he knows the Voice of Black Magic, but the players don't.
>>
>>25798778

Actually, your knowledge of Black Magic's origins is truly pitiful. Besides the fact it came over from Amarestes, you know very little of its history. Your learning of the Voice was by no means painless or easy and used zero understanding of the principles behind it. Simply put, you inwardly uttered all the syllables you could and saw what letters started to glow in the tome. It was a most arduous process, but your understanding of White Magic, of tapping into your mana and 'feeling' the element, of meditating and recitation, helped a lot. You weren't taught the meaning of the letters of the Black Voice, as you were taught those of the major figures in the White Voice, but you've been able to fathom some meaning from them since, due to shared symbols between the two schools and between tomes of Black Magic. For example, Osmose has some very similar symbols to the spell Cure and Antidota, primarily the White symbol 'take'. You're no Black Mage, that's for sure. Unless you are to be tutored further on either Voice, you doubt you'll ever be able to learn the higher secrets of either school.
>>
>>25798868
>Unless you are to be tutored further on either Voice, you doubt you'll ever be able to learn the higher secrets of either school.
So wait, we need to find a tutor if we're going to get Level 2 Black and White Magic? I thought it was just a matter of using them and experience?

Since we actually don't know where the power for Black Magic comes from, I'm not sure how we should answer this.
Unless there's another Black Mage in the crowd to correct us.
>>
'Hell if I know. I just tell people that it's my hat doing all the work'
>>
>>25798956

(I feel like to answer that would be full-on metagaming. Going to avoid that. You haven't tried to learn any second level spells, yet, so you'll just have to find out.)

There are no other Black Mages about, unfortunately for you.
>>
>>25798625
"If I knew that answer, I'd be a Black Mage, instead of just using their spells with no concern for their lore.
"Power is Power. And it won't change whether I worship one, the other, or both, if I can't use it."

Change "Black Mage" to Black Wizard
>>
>>25799049
>>25798977

"Ignorance!" the hooden man spits. "Fools, ignorant of the source of the power of the world, these are the masses that blindly follow any rule set before them! Content to let those in power tell us what we can do, what we can think, what we can learn. We visit their churches, we abide their laws, but are we happier for this? Are there not many of you who think 'Chaos damn them, I'm not going to take this any longer! I will not abide the oppression of those peace -currently- suit'?!"

"Aye!" rises up a cry. Another cry follows, but this time it is alone, and it is close. The White Mage, having pulled up her hood, has heard enough.

"This is blasphemy! You would do away with the laws of Cosmos's voice on Gaia!" The cries out, her voice shaking with the effort, her knuckles white, fingers tight about her prayer rod.

"Here we have one! A sheep! A white sheep!" Shouts one of those foremost in the crowd. Suddenly, most of the crowd has turned upon the two of you. Too many of them wear expressions of contempt for your liking.

"Aye," the old man admits, nodding slowly. "We -would- do away with the tightening hands of Orbonne, your White Temple. We would come together, a Union of people, of those who worship Cosmos, those who worship Chaos, those who worship both and none, and we would write the law in the image of the -true- world, a world of disparity for ourselves. Those who abide us, we would abide in Harmony. And those who would stop us," his voice begins to rise. "We will destroy with all the power of discord!"

A fierce cry rises amongst those loyal in the crowd. A wife pulls away from her husband, away from his entreating pull.

>>25799232

"Disperse!" comes a mighty call from behind the crowd. "Disperse in the name of the King and the King's laws!"

Most of the crowd begins to part immediately as a squad of guards march hard toward the fountain. One of them wears a short white coat with a green hand holding a leaf sewn on the front of the left shoulder. Ferra quickly moves out of their way.

"We have warned you, false priest!" the captain shouts at the old man, his brush-like moustache twitching in disdain. He draws the sabre at his waist. "You are charged with inciting treason, willing the people to rebel against the King and his Holy Allies! Come peacefully, or we use what means necessary to pacify you!"

The remaining crowd separating them from the fountain tenses and turns to stand still as stone. Until the old man speaks again, gaining their direct attention.

"Cosmos is the wisest voice in this situation, my open-minded few." He nods. From his feet, you can see wisps of black drifting up from the water like steam. "We will meet again. For Chaos cannot truly be stopped. Just as order cannot truly be denied."

With those words, he vanishes. A black shadow extends from beneath the water, swallowing him in a round, oval cocoon and disappearing just as smoke would clear. Behind, no trace of the man's existence is left, just as there is no sign of his fellow robed men.

"Th-that had to be dark magic!" gasps the White Mage, then grabs your hand, her expression grave and concerned. "Please, Cecil, we must leave this place, this is an evil, evil city!"

>>25799232
"You're all idiots!"
I've seen what happens when you let chaos take hold.

At first it seems great, you have all the coices and free will do what you please. You begin to enjoy the freedom of being your own man, damn the laws of Cosmos, damn living in harmony with your fellows.

You begin to feel empowered, like nothing in the world can stop you! Then you begin to make mistakes without seeing them, you've listened to that call for too long though, the light of cosmos is a dim beacon, barely reaching you.

Then someone you see something, an opportunity to seize something so powerful, discord says it's yours, Cosmos says, no, life is more important than your petty greed. But you ignore it, and you get your just desserts, cast about on the winds of someone's whim now, a close friend dead, a pointless bauble in your hand!

That's what happens when you let chaos take over!

Cosmos and chaos are two opposing forces pulling at us in the center, chaos does everything it can to win, cosmos only asks that you resist it.

Don't listen to these idiots, go on with your lives, be content with lives of happiness and fufillment. There is nothing here worth listening to.

I'm not pissed, I voted to go back for Elly, but I couldn't prove that we would have saved her, I let fate play out, it's made for an interesting subtext, Cecil is a born and bred tragic hero, and it's only going downhill.

"The Red Fool speaks again!" calls a woman's voice above all.

"What of those of us who are not content?! What of those who are not fulfilled?!" The man shouting is surprisingly old, most of his hair and beard white, now. Beneath his sleeveless tunic you see a top heavy body, thick arms marked with the soot of a smith's work. "I have six sons, all but one of them marched off to war in a country that is meant to be our ally! The King tells us nothing but that Velyara is suddenly our enemy. We are all children of Cosmos, but we are -also- children of Chaos! We are the children of Union and we will not be told what our lot in life is!"

He raises his hands high, closing his fist and slamming it into an open hand.

"Union!" he shouts.

"Union!" "Union!" "Union!"

The crowd's chants rise higher and higher, scores of people following his gesture. Then you hear the slip of a dagger from its scabbard. For a brief second, you worry that it's for you, but then you see a guard double over, screaming in pain, a small, scrawny woman, homeless by the looks of her clothes and bare feet, shoving a dagger repeatedly into his side. Then chaos descends. Most of the men and women begin to run away, immediately, but some stay and begin to fly at the guards with fists and rocks and some even with blades. The captain of the guard looks around him in horror, slashing across the face of one young man who comes at him with a brick loosed from the fountain's edge.

"Cecil, -please-!" Ferra is tugging at your arm with all of her weight, now. A couple of those with blades in hand look upon you, murder in their eyes.

"Look at yourselves!"
What by the gods are you angry at!
So you don't understand events that are happening on a grand scale, then let me help!
I'll go to your king, I'll find out why your sons were taken to fight a war you nothing to do with.

But it is a war, you're not the only ones affected by it, you should be ashamed of yourselves, your sons are out there fighting and possibly dying and all you care about right now is how you can get some disgusting self-fufillment. You only care that you do something to make yourself better, instead you could be out working, making money and buying your sons all better armor so they can come home at the end of the fighting. You could be out in your fields planting more crops to ward off the coming shortages!

If you have this rebellion right here, right now, many will die, not just here, but your sons and daughters out on the field when those set to aid them are called back to put you down.

Then what happens when they hear the news, how you died trying to overthrow the king your own children serve, what are they to think, when their enemy comes at them, lost and confused they too will die and for what?

Because you aren't strong enough to look past your own personal wants and needs! Cosmos will give you that strength, chaos will only take it! The union will cost more than you can possibly imagine.

If the crowd buys this, great, if not, grab Ferra and gtfo, this city will burn before the nights through if the riot starts.
>>
>>25799962

No-one listens. The people can barely hear. Even Ferra is too busy hyperventilating and trying to pull you to understand what you're saying. The guards are beating the dissidents back, most of them trying to use the butts of their spears, but you see more than a few citizens with blood spilling from their guts after a hard spear shove.

You don't have the time to finish your rousing speech before the sword bearing two rush at you. One aims to shove his sword hard in your stomach as the second aims a sideward slash, one aimed directly at the head of the White Mage desperately trying to pull you away.

People typically break and flee when uniformed soldiers/police start actually doing real harm. Knocking people down and apprehending them, that's fine, but when people actually start dying...
This is not normal, does Ferra have Placate learned yet? Because something is wrong with this crowd, I think magic might be involved somewhere.

She does not. And has more pressing concerns, you might have noticed.

Put Ferra on our shoulders, she's can heal us, spot things as we run, and doesn't run the risk of getting trampled, Conara and Shang are at that one tavern right, we should make our way and get there, this city is going to blow up it seems, even so, we need to get out of the city incase they plan on sealing the gates.
>>
>>25800190
Fire right in the face of the man trying to hit Ferra. Even if we're hit badly, Ferra can keep us going until we're safe.

Whelp. I go away for an hour and this happens. Here's ANOTHER disaster caused by us.
Should have just left when we had the chance; just HAD to rile up the cultists.
>>
>>25800457
Too late, if you'd notice. There's two people already coming at us, an we stayed and talked instead of running when we noticed them. Now they've got sword strikes already slashing at us and Ferra and there's no time to get her away.

We chose to go down this chain of events. If Ferra dies then its our fault, just as Elly's death was our fault.
>>

Fire, blindd, something on the guy attacking Elly. (If only we were a paladin and had cover).
>>
>>25800655
Is casting Fire near instant? Or drawing our sword and striking away the blade aimed at Ferra?
We want to do whichever is faster.
>>
>>25800704
Blind is useless because the guy is already in mid-swing.
It had to either be Blizzard, Fire, or drawing our sword and hitting him.
>>
>>25800190
Kick Ferra out of the way of the blow, she's hyperventillating, maybe that will get some sense into her, I know it's rough but she'll forgive us later.
Hopefully when we turn to kick Ferra the strike coming at us will graze us not as badly, perhaps we can take it on the arm. Then burn them both, and grab Ferra and run.

we can't be certain a damage spell will stop the sword swing, and since it's aimed for her head gambling on that is not acceptable, get her out of harms way so she can heal us in a moment.

We're a level 1 Red Mage, we're not good enough to do that.
>>
>>25800825
theres no guarantee anything will happen the way we hope, but I feel this has a good chance of working, at least it will catch the bad guys off guard, who would think the people they're attacking will turn and drop kick their own allies.

our sword is still sheathed, they're swinging now, we're just not that fast.

Red Mages are known for adapability and unpredicatbility, no reason to stop now.
>>

I think the kick will just stun her and make her an easier target; we don't have the pure strength of a Fighter or Monk to be able to kick someone away.
>>
>>25800825
Do you remember the potion incident with Elly, we had this long argument about what might have happened, and didn't try it because we didn't have a solid proof it would work.

We don't have anything solid now either, but go on faith, Cecil will not let her die just standing there.

You kick launches Ferra away from you, causing her to stumble back onto her rear. However, the man's swing carries, swiping along her face. You hear the girl shriek in pain as something wet and warm hits your face before bouncing off. The last you can see of her is her rolling the ground, her cries rising high like the others around you.

Then you are hit by two swords. One slams into your gut, just about piercing your leather and knicking the flesh. Before you can wrench free of it, the other's slash catches your side, chopping clean into your armour and clean into your gut. Fiery, resounding waves of pain rush up from the slice. And then the two men are upon you, stabbing and slashing, cutting more and more through your armour as you let out your own howl of pain, blood streaming from your midriff, until the men let you fall to the ground. The last you see before the world goes dark is a spear-bearing guard rushing the two and them turning to face him.

Warmth surrounds your body, embraces and cradles you, seeps in through your nose and out your mouth in steady breaths, like a dragon breathing fire, painless and powerful. Then it recedes. The first thing you feel as you feel as light returns to your world is the gentle patter of rain on your face. As you open your eyes, you soon see that it is not rain at all, but rather the dripping from the eyes and nose of the red-headed girl leaning over you.

"Cecil!" She wails, letting an empty orange bottle fall from her furiously trembling fingers to throw herself on you. You expect pain, remembering the flurry of blows you took, but you're entirely fine, but for the arms of the fourteen year old threatening to choke you in their embrace. Then, in her cries, as well as a flurry of emotions, you hear sharp, unrelenting pain. You can hear the ruckus around you has died down tremendously, though shouts are still issued and fierce voices bark commands. Beneath you is still the grass surrounding the fountain and above you is the darkening evening sky.
>>
>>25801019
Are we dead yet? Or have we used up our very expensive Phoenix Down? And What about Ferra? She'll need more than just a Potion for whatever bit of her that got cut off.

I think we really need to work on our diplomacy skills, unless we want to leave that to the insecure virgin 14 year old white mage, overly agressive monk, spunky cunt Onion knight, or bro derp fighter.
>>
>>25801222
Sure, badass, but it also kills an entire arc of her vision and leaves her open completely on one side.
That might work in comics, but that translates to a huge hit to her DEF rating.

Also, the conditions under which she got it are less than impressive.
>>
>>25801222
>not asking Ferra if she's alright first
You are not a gentleman.

"Lady Ferra, thank Cosmos you're alive, I was afraid they'd slain you as surely as they tried to slay me. Where are we, and have you heard from Conara, Shang, and Horry?"
>>
>>25801276
Considering that our mouth has gotten us into more trouble than it has gotten out of them, any of the others might actually be a better diplomat than us.
>>
>>25801280
my uncle has an eyepatch, he lost his eye while mowing his yard one day, walked into a tree branch.

Still looks badass, he just tells people he lost it in a fight and it's much more impressive.
>>
>>25801317
We know where are, though; the same place that we went down in, the center of the Rose Garden.
And why should any of the other three even be here? Shang and Corana were drinking at a tavern and Horry was catching up on the news.
>>
>>25801224

She does not answer in words at all, letting herself kneel and sob as you get up to look around. There are at least twelve dead bodies littering the park around the fountain. Two of them belong to guardsmen. But now there are a score more of them. You see some of the rioters, including the blacksmith who had been denouncing you for a fool, bound and kneeling on the floor as the moustached captain of the guard talks gravely with another. You see the two men who had attacked you lying on the ground, one face down with several bloody punctures through his tunic. The other is face up, not that he has much of a face, his skull caved in a mush of red and pink. Next to him lies a metal tipped rod, the bulbous tip dyed a full red. It can't have been more than ten minutes since you fell, given the wounds the men are still being treated for, a white mage moving between rioter and guard alike. Amidst the chaos, you and Ferra are relatively unnoticed. Perhaps they thought she was dealing with healing over here.
>>
>>25801368
They might have come running when the news of a riot got around.
Though its kind of embarrassing to be what is considered an adventurer and a Warrior of Light and to be nearly killed by two chumps because we were too busy talking and wasn't paying attention.
>>
>>25801385
Get up and examine Ferra's face.
"Ferra, let me see how bad it is."

EVERYBODY heard us incite the crowd, including the Guard Captain, and we stick out because we're a Red Mage.
This could be a problem if he notices us.
>>
>>25801489
We didn't incite the crowd, the old man did before he vanished, we tried to calm down the crowd, but they were already set to blow when the guards showed up.

Best to keep our mouths shut, analyze the current situation, can we overhear the guards talking?

We need to know why our talk failed, people don't just start attacking without a figure to push them into attacking, the anon who wrote that little speech did alright if you ask me, these people weren't planning on listening to reason at all, I think that old man did something to the crowd. Sure wish we had that Augur with us now, perhaps someone knows how to divine if there there's magic affecting these people?
>>
>>25801489

The girl looks up to you with those porous teal eyes, half-lidded, her lips pulled in a grimace as fat tears continue to drip down her red cheeks. Weakly, she pushes her hands down and stands, before walking right into you. Leaning on you, she lightly cants her head, causing her red hair to spill along her cheek, sticking there with sweat.

Then you realise it isn't sweat. Strands of hair are redder and thicker with blood, still slowly coursing down her cheek and jawline. You can see the cause of it, now, a horizontal slice that has entirely rid the girl of about a quarter of her left ear from the top. Hair sticks to the wound, the slightest movement causing her to wince and sob anew.

"I... I thought..."

She buries her face against your tattered, bloody leathers as the sun sets over Dorter, masking the red, bloody scene with its own crimson light.
>>
(And that's it for now, folks. I really didn't imagine it'd escalate so much. But hey, it did. I guess that's what happens when you don't choose whores.)
>>
>>25801676
I think you and the anon who wrote that speech completely misread the crowd, and the speech was taken as inciting rather than calming.
Especial when the Old Man TOLD his loyal followers to go with Cosmos in this case and peacefully disperse like the Guard told them to.
>>
>>25801742

Apologize for kicking her, but it was for her own good, Ferra lass, sometimes, you gotta be strong no matter how scary the situation is, lets take her and get out of here if we can.
