Hot on your heels, it's VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/98bTfTqb

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You first arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, and figh off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher.

You then moved on to Ustio, where you helped the beleaguered defenders fend off an Imperial offensive and stage a counterattack. While there, you also took care of a personal mission for Qyburn, got a new weapon called the Buzzbomb, recruited some new squad members, and helped Isolde regain her honor by defeating the Knight leading the Imperial forces in the area, breaking the back of the Imperial offensive.

You then returned to Gallia to help the Loyalists fight the GRA. You also found out that your grandmother and a group of Darcsen refugees have begun rebuilding your ancestral home. You then participated in a mission to rescue Archduchess Cordelia from GRA captivity. You also finally decided to move on from your past and start a relationship with your longtime friend and XO, Sam.

Currently, you're back at your mostly rebuilt castle checking up on your grandmother, who seems to be enjoying running a proper household once again.

"Grandma, what exactly are you planning?" You narrow your eyes suspiciously.

"Oh, me? Nothing much." Grandma says airily, with feigned ignorance. "Just pointing out that royal favors are a good way for a disgraced house to get back to the top..."

"Yes, yes, you want to want the Sturmfuhrers to be on the top again..." You sigh.

"And there's only so much we can do with the resources we have on hand."

"Well, we do have some money saved up from our missions..." Sam starts.

"The thought is nice, dear, but I think that money is better off spent on yourselves. That old quack Qyburn is raising all sorts of hell in his lab."

"I guess now is a good time to check up on that old coot." You agree. Both you and Sam begin to get up.

"Oh, but Samantha can stay. You know, girl talk." Grandma says with a devious smile.

"Um, okay." You frown, dreading what they'll talk about.

"Oh, don't worry, we'll just be talking about a few innocent things, like embarrassing childhood stories and your darkest secrets."

"Ooooh, ooh, I want to hear this!" Sam grins.

You sigh, resigned to your fate and sink off to Qyburn's lab.

"Ah! Captain! It's so good to see you again!" Qyburn says happily. He certainly seems a lot livelier, especially now that he has a fell dedicated staff at his beck and call.

"Hey, Qyburn, I heard you got some new toys for us?"

Ah yes, let me just show you here...

GEAR:

Gallian-A Rifle - 1000
Modified with a water cooling jacket, the Gallian-A is quite a bit heavier than the standard Gallian-1, but allows for a much faster firing rate.

Flamethrower Attachment - 1000
A portable flamethrower that can be added on to most submachine guns, which can lay down a stream of destructive ragnite flames. Shocktroopers only.

Rifle Grenade Attachment - 1000
A modification for rifles that allows them to fire grenades over much larger distances. Scouts only.

Antipersonnel Mine - 1000
A simple mine that can be planted anywhere to act as a booby trap.

Howitzer Team - UPKEEP: 600
Mercenaries armed with a 105mm howitzer that can provide long range fire support.

R&D

Spiderweave Armor (PROTOTYPE) - 1200
Constructed out artificial fibers several times stronger than steel, this cloth armor provides superior protection to standard Scout armor with no additional weight.

Radio Beacon - 1500
A small, handheld device that broadcasts radio signals for buzzbombs to home in on. Greatly improves accuracy, though be sure to get clear once it is planted!

Suppressor - 1500
Portable addons to any existing Gallian weapon to reduce the sound the weapon makes. However, they're not quite as quiet as the Gallian-Q, and have a minor negative impact on weapon performance.

Var mk2 (PROTOTYPE) - 2000
Based on a massive weapon left behind by a traveling war veteran, the Var mk2 is a smaller, more portable version. While it doesn't quite pack the punch of the original, it's much easier to field and doubles as a heavy machine gun and 40mm grenade launcher.

War Emergency Power (PROTOTYPE) - 2000
By disabling the mechanical limiters built into vehicle engines as well as injecting more efficient coolant directly into the engine, total horsepower is nearly doubled. However, has a high chance of damaging said engines.

High Velocity Armor Piercing Ammo - 1500
Specialized AP ammo that trades out the standard steel penetrator with tungsten, vastly increasing armor penetration with minimal change in weight. However, tungsten is a rare resource, so equipping HVAP increases a vehicle's upkeep by 200.

Reinforced Chassis - 2000
Allows the Gallian Tank Destroyer to mount the 88mm cannon.

Fenrir Heavy Upgrade Package - 6000
Upgrades the Type-36 Medium Tank to a Type-36 Heavy tank. Also includes one master upgrade.

>>
>>25942536
The original Var is basically unusable by regular people. A lot of people tried, but it was just too damn heavy to carry effectively. It's significantly heavier than a standard lance, as well. The mk2 is already pushing the limits acceptable to a soldier.

Qyburn doesn't even want to think what kind of a beast would be able to carry this thing around.
>>
>>25942768
And also, Var mk2 is for shocktroopers.

>>25942781
So Var Mk2. is a toy for Jager.

Sweet.
>>
>>25942768

The Gallian-Q was only ever intended to be a specialist weapon/tech demonstrator. It's not mass producible. That's what suppressors were designed to be.

Well shit then, I prefer it kept as a Medium Tank for it's balance in speed, armour, mobility, and firepower.
>>
>>25943180
Agreed.
>>
>>25943157
I think its an exaggeration to claim that we broke their back. We defeated them in this area, but they still have significant strength. Furthermore, we know that they have significant armor assets (not to mention the artificial Valkyries) so I think that a heavy tank would be extremely helpful.
>>
>>25943221
depends on how well the manpower is at the castle as its natural defenses might cause a sense of complacency against a sneakier attack.

I really don't see the appeal of a Heavy Tank that everyone seems to have. Sure it's nice to have stupidly high amounts of armour, but not getting hit in the first place is better than anything armour can provide.
>>
>>25943241
Which is why I'm surprised more people aren't voting for the suppressor since we're obviously going to need to be stealthy for at least part of this.
>>
>>25943221

Wouldn't Alek be better in that?

A Anti-Tank Rifle would take the head off a Valkur while a tank shell might miss and be a bigger target.
>>
>>25943248
True but only if we can even get our tanks their in the first place, rather not turn it into a heavy just yet
>>

The tank can't support the initial infiltration, in any case. Only when we go loud, can it be used.

>>
>>25943310
>Rifle grenades.
Really anything but the heavy. We need to upgrade to a heavy tank and now is a good time to do it. People claiming that it is better not to be hit in a tank than have heavy armor seem to be underestimating how easy it is to hit a medium tank
>>
>>25943422
The army regularly uses flamethrowers. We're fine.
>>
>>25943422
In the VC verse? not really. Not if it's widely available in gallia of all places. It's not like RAGNITE NOVA 6 GAS.

>>25943442

A Heavy isn't useful for this mission, though.
>>
>>25943442
We're dropping the heavy because it's expensive.

If drop anything else then we'll only have a few credits left.
>>
As much I would like a Tank upgrade, I hope Qyburn creates a tank that's similar to a Early Cold War Main Battle Tank which removes most tank classifications.
>>
>>25943471
that and the low likely hood of there being much tank on tank action.
>>
>>25943471
This.

The heavy is a good upgrade but the money is better spent elsewhere for now. A heavy tank would be most worth if fighting in open spaces and we really haven't done that at all, nor to we plan to in the next mission.
>>
>>25943310
So it looks like we're dropping the Heavy Upgrade.

So current purchase is set at:

Flamethrower - 1000
Grenade Launcher - 1000
Var - 2000
Reinforced Chassis - 2000

Total: 6000

Remaining Funds: 5630

"Holy CRAP, Qyburn, what the hell is that?!" You gape as you see the monster of a gun Qyburn carts out to you.

"Ha, if you think this is big, you should see the original!" Qyburn laughs. "This is the Var mk2, a combination of sword, machine gun, and grenade launcher!"

"Another mad creation of yours?" You ask.

"Oh, no, this was somebody else's genius! I just made a few... refinements. The original weapon is unusable for most normal folk. Too big and heavy, you see."

"Uh huh..." You nod, unconsciously stroking the weapon.

"Ideally, this would be for shocktroopers to use. The machine gun would provide some good suppressing fire, and the 40mm grenade launcher would be able to deal with fortified positions and light vehicles." Qyburn continues.

"I guess the question is who can use it..."

But no, that's completely different, that didn't have a name as far as I can remember.

Old king somewhere around where the Roman Empire would be, had this sword Mistilteinn, killed 420 people with it, and no I'm not joking about the number it was four hundred and twenty, got buried in his burial mound, became one of the draugr, living dead, and a Danish king came in, beat him up, took his treasure and sword, killed some folks with it, lost it in the water due to witches, found it again in a fish, and then got killed by a guy with a club.

Wait, guys, did we pick up the mortar squad upkeep?
>>
Too bad we can't hijack a GRA tank and use it as a Trojan Horse filled with a crap ton of explosives and radio beacons, drive it into the middle of the parked enemy tanks and run like hell.
>>
>>25944275
Did you not understand? We put them in them when we are being stealthy, so then when the people jump in the tank once we go loud they lose limbs and wreck parts of the tank.
>>
>>25944235
Zs must not be worth much in polish scrabble. It's like alphabet soup: only consonants edition

We sabotage a few tanks manually, we drop a mine in another few more, andhave ramirez take the biggest one and blow the rest. Should kill/disable most.
>>
>>25944321
But that was Gilbert's tank and much more recognizable. This would have been a bad tank to use unlike a regular GRA tank.
>>
>>25944321
it wasn't just any old GRA tank, but rather the bigwig's abandoned tank. Odds are it was customized beyond the norm.

>>25944310
If we go loud then they shouldn't be able to get to their tanks. Otherwise we're doing it wrong.
>>
So can we agree on getting just the suppressors. They would be useful and honestly I don't want to argue over the mines and beacon for an hour when we could be moving the quest forward.
>>

So, leading names are Laevateinn, Mistlilteinn, and Szczerbiec.

Maybe we should pick something easier to say in the middle of battle.
>>
>>25944362

It leaves obvious evidence of tampering. Unlike a single mine.

The thing is, it is fast unlike traditional sabotage.

And we can use it, like say bobytrapping a line of approach by guards if we need to take and hold a critical area, say a control room.

>There doesn't seem to be any consensus on making the extra purchases, so I'm just going to continue the quest since we already devoted enough time to shopping.

You decide that you've dilly dallied long enough here. You've still got a job to do, and it wouldn't do to be late for your employer. Qyburn has his assistants pack up your newly bought gear and load it up in a truck. You radio for the rest of the Demons to get ready to move out, Sam included.

"Hey, Kincaid." You say, to your huntsman as you pass by him. "By any chance, did my dad's old hunting rifle survive?"

"Unfortunately, it got destroyed along with pretty much everything else." Kincaid sighs. "But I did find something from the armory intact..."

He then rushes off, and promptly appears a few minutes later, carrying a large, wooden box, which would have been rather ornate and beautiful if it weren't for the burns and singe marks on it.

"This was all I could find."

You open the box and see a pair of old and very familiar dueling sabers tucked inside. You smile at the irony.

You smile at the sight of the dueling sabers, letting the nostalgia of times past flow through you once more. However, that's all it was: nostalgia. You've already moved on from that chapter in your life.

"Thanks, Kincaid. Keep these safe." You say, gently closing the box. "There one of the few things left from the old castle."

"In any case, they'll make great mantle pieces." Kincaid nods. "But that monster gun you're lugging would also be a contender. What do you think it'll do to deer?"

"Maybe we'll find out one day." You laugh. "Anyways, I've got to go. Business and all. Take care, and keep an eye on the castle and grandma for me."

----

And all of a sudden, you're out in the Kloden Wildwoods, right on the outskirts of Castle Gassenarl. The huge castle fortress dominates the area, its big walls and even bigger guns glaring menacingly at the surrounding landscape. In front of you is a rather large river that serves as a natural barrier, but with Fenrir and Kilroy being amphibious, that's not much of an issue.

Meanwhile, some sort of Gallian black ops team is already on the other side of the river, securing a landing zone for you. You're not quite sure who they are, but they're definitely not Nameless like you expected. They're too well equipped, well trained, and professional for that.

Now all that's left is the timing for your attack. General Wellings' troops will be attacking in a few minutes.

You decide to cross the river before the main attack starts. Better to start of closer to the target, after all. All of you pile on to the Fenrir and Kilroy. Thanks to their amphibious running modes, they do have limited flotation capability. It was certainly no problem in this relatively shallow river.

No, the trick was not to be noticed by any sentries that happen to be looking down at the river.

And surprisingly enough, you get through the river without so much as attracting a single glance from the castle guards. It's not long before your vehicles reach the far shore.

There, you see why you haven't been spotted. All of the shore sentries were quickly and cleanly neutralized, and you see several Gallian soldiers clad in black armor disposing the enemy corpses.

"Who's in charge here?" You ask.

"That would be me." One of the soldiers steps forward, his face cloaked in the darkness and by a face concealing skull balaclava. "Sergeant Price, reporting."

"What's your unit?" You ask, curious.

"Classified."

"Fine." You sigh. "Any intel on the castle?"

"Big walls. Lots of guards." Price shrugs. "Main point of entry is this gate here. Big enough to drive your tanks through. Or we could go around and try blasting our way through their motor pool or their front door. Not that I'd recommend it, anyways. Then again, blasting open this door will pretty much announce where we are."

"I might have a way to solve that..." You say.

"Okay." Elizabeth pats down her new uniform to make sure it fits. "Mind giving me a boost up to that window there?"

"Ramirez, boost Elizabeth up to that window."

"Fiiiiine."

Ramirez kneels down as Elizabeth steps on his shoulders and uses the extra height to climb through one of the high up windows. Being on the small and lithe side, Elizabeth manages to slither through the opening.

The rest is mostly just waiting. You can hear the rumbling of tank engines in the distance, and you know the attack is not far off. You'd rather get inside the castle as soon possible, as you'd rather not get caught in a friendly artillery barrage.

Finally, you hear a motor groaning and the gates slowly creak open, exposing the interior of Castle Gassenarl to your attack force.

"Okay, let's try to keep things as quiet as possible." You say.

The key to this mission was to take the castle's command center, which was where it's entire defense was coordinate, and where Baldren Gassenarl would most likely be hiding, if he wasn't on the frontlines himself. From this gate, you'd have to get through the castle's main hall before reaching the command center.

Silently, both you and Price's squad creep into the castle, weapons raised. Fenrir and Kilroy hang back, though they point their cannons down the hall to give you some cover just in case.

"Julia, it's time to go in loud." You say. "Fast and hard."

"Just the way I like it." Julia cooes. Behind you, you can hear Fenrir's engines roar.

You actually never understood by nobles loved having hallways big enough to fit tanks through. Was it some sort of status thing? To show off how cool your hallways were? Either way, Fenrir has more than enough space, though more than a few pieces of furniture and chandeliers are savaged by the approaching mass of steel. Kilroy follows close behind, its new 88mm cannon jutting out proudly from its front.

The doors to the main hall, which were presumably barred and locked, splinter into firewood the moment Fenrir impacts it. Inside the main hall, you see what are easily thirty GRA soldiers scattered about the first and second floors. There are also two of those V2 soldiers General Wellings had warned you about.

Meanwhile, the rest of your squad follows the tanks in, ready to fire.

>Call out targets! Who shoots at what?!

this. We have big guns and fast firing guns. point them at what they are meant to be pointed at. Jager should use the grenade launcher on the var to kill groups of infantry as well though
>>
>>25947186

Different anon but I think he was talking about using both tanks on the V2s.
>>
Rolled 14

>>25946901
Jager to use grenade launchers on any soldier clusters he find, everyone else focus/surpress fire on them, Alek ATR one V2, Sam+Isolde Lance anything resembling a generator or armored vehicle, Julia HE round on other cluster Jager isn't nading, and Headcase pop the other V2
>>
I don't think people are realizing just how fucking dangerous V2s are..
>>
>>25947219
Ah so he was. I didn't follow the quote links deep enough.
>>
I still think we should use the tanks on the V2s and have Alek support the weaker of the tanks with his ATR. Our infantry has plenty variaty and firepower to put some hurt on the infantry and we have price's squad coming around to flank anyway.
>>
>>25947333
Sam should also focus on the V2s because lol theimer lance
>>
Tanks, Alek, Sam: V2s
Everyone else: Infantry
Isolde has frag I think, so I say let her use it
>>
>>25946901
Julia, Headcase, and Alek focus their AP firepower on the V2s, considering they're the hardest and most dangerous targets.

Sam fires her lance at one of the V2s as well, while Isolde fires a frag lance at a cluster of infantry.

Tarin, Brillant, and Heloise providing supporting rifle fire.

Finally, Ramirez sprays enemy positions with his SMG while you start pounding away with the Var mk2.

Unfortunately, the fire directed at the V2s is disappointing. Everything thrown their way either misses or is deflected by their heavy armor.

However, your small arms fire is far more successful. You see maybe six or so GRA soldiers take hits, with the ones getting hit by the Var mk2 getting thrown around like ragdolls.

However, there's still a lot of GRA soldiers with guns, and the V2s prepare to return fire as well...

The V2s fire their energy cannons, but thankfully the Fenrir's front armor is thick enough to deflect the majority of the energy, though you see the armor plates beginning to glow from the intense heat. The composite armor was tough, but not invincible.

Meanwhile, soldiers from both the first and second floors spray your positions with gunfire. Yours and Ramirez's armor catches a few stray bullets, as does Heloise's armor, though considering she's not wearing as much, she definitely feels it harder and she's left trying to catch her breath.

Alek, however, takes a grazing hit to the neck, drawing blood. Elsa quickly presses a bandage against he wound.

Meanwhile, you catch some of the GRA soldiers passing around lances. That might be a problem...

Julia and Headcase continue to fire on the V2s.

With some prodding by Elsa, Alek swings his ATR around and tries to pick out any lancers.

Sam and Isolde both fire AP lances into the columns supporting the second floor balcony.

You, Tarin, and Brillant launch grenades at any clusters of troops you can see.

Finally, Heloise and Ramirez dish out suppressing fire.

Julia and Headcase score solid hits on the V2s, completely obliterating them. Sure, artificial valkrur were tough as nails, but you've yet to see anything properly stand up to a 88mm shell at close range.

Meanwhile, a lancer''s chest explodes as Alek finds his mark. Launched grenades shower the lower floors with shrapnel, but it's not quite as effective as you hoped it would be.

A couple more GRA are downed by gunfire

Sam and Isolde's attempt to collapse the balcony is only partially successful, resulting in a demolished pillar a few angry GRA soldiers were hiding behind.

Heloise and Ramirez try to contribute to the battle, but they only manage to down one soldier

The GRA's return fire is rather withering, but thankfully you and the other Demons manage to make it through unscathed, though a couple of you take a few random hits here and there.

However, at that point, your allies finally complete their flanking maneuver, appearing at the far end of the hall and catching the GRA troops by surprise. Seeing that their position was compromised, the GRA soldiers begin falling back.

"Well, I guess we could TRY taking them alive, at least." You mutter as you gauge the difficulty of breaking through the command center door. Your squad takes the momentary break to heal up and reload.

Instead of going through the trouble of blowing up the doors or picking the locks or anything like that, you decide to go with the next best thing and just ram the the doors down with Fenrir like you did with the main hall doors. It actually takes a few tries, but finally, the steel doors buckle and squeal before the doors finally collapse.

"Go go go!" You yell, charging into the breach.

However, your bravado ultimately proves unnecessary, as the command center staff immediately surrenders to you without a fight. Scanning the command center, you realize that Baldren Gassenarl wasn't even there.

Well, it looks like things wouldn't be as easy as you thought.
