You are an agent in service to the Central Intelligence Agency, Special Projects Division.

You are currently in a '57 Chevy parked across the street from a Thai restaurant where there may or may not be members of Starlight, a cult that went from being a backwoods affair in a Toronto suburb only known for being gag fodder for local stand up comics to a multinational operation with a following of hundreds of thousands and a net worth in the billions in only four years.

They also may or may not have killed your partner two years back. It was labeled a suicide, but you knew that it wasn't true. Even though you saw the autopsy, the crime scene, saw that everything pointed to it, you knew that it could not have been a suicide. The last thing that your partner sent to you was a letter begging you not to follow, and not to believe what 'they' would say. The investigation your partner was involved in was regarding the Starlight chapter in Washington DC.

Another two years later, and you'd gotten a transfer to Special Projects, Project ANTIGONE. You were on the bleeding edge, supposed to test out the new equipment, work out the kinks, be ready to catch the pieces when they blew up. Current test: Surveillance device.

Your surveillance device was a girl named Margaret who had to skip class to come here. Well, if you could call the lab she was remanded to along with the rest of ANTIGONE's products a class. She's a clairvoyant. A remote reader. The next step of human evolution. She's currently having a minor panic attack because a fly had gotten in to the car.

GOD FINE.

Okay, let's break this down:

>Alfred Lynnell
>No degree, but activities in Vietnam brought him to CIA attention. Has proven himself a survivor, and if necessary, a lethal combatant. Is however, irascible and painfully blunt at times. A good guardian for ANTIGONE's project.

>Tyrone Alberswazy
>Art degree. Charisma and inventive attitude brought him to attention of recruiter. Unorthodox methodology, but has great charisma and an ability to build an honest rapport with many that meet him. Though one might raise an eyebrow at his informality, perhaps that is just what the girls of the lab need.

>Adam Compton
>Double major in sociology and psychology, and went from there to serve in Army Intelligence as an officer. Described in one report as "calculating, cunning, and cold." He is very rational, and is intimately familiar with how people work. An ideal candidate to control, if not nurture, ANTIGONE's products.

Not setting the characters in stone, just bullshitting something out. Vote 'em.

Hey, anybody still remember that Orphanage thing we did a few months back? We had like hundreds of lolis that were somehow captured and turned into cyberpunked killers but whose handlers the protagonists managed to take out. Now they were sitting on like 150 cybered up lolis with blades in their arms, hands that can crush concrete, hacking tools that open up the NASA like a can opener etc. Pic related also came from there.

Agent Alfred Lynnel. Hero of Martin's Pisshole- not that that'll go in to any history books. That, and a dozen other little black missions that left black craters and no records. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, all the same sweating jungles, screaming corpses, and moral ambiguity. You refused the medals they tried to give you, and tried to refuse the job too until they brought out those tapes, and threatened to tell Major Carnegie exactly what happened in that dark night outside Da Nang. You weren't exactly afraid of dying, but imagining that smug look on Carnegie's face-

"M-Mr Lynnel?" Oh, right. Margaret. You turn and squint at her. She's hyperventilating, cramming herself in to the corner of the car seat, shivering, "I-Is it still there?"

A fly. A fucking housefly. Crawling around on your glove compartment. And it sent her in to a god damn panic attack.

You had seen your best friends rooting through their own guts to try to pick out a grenade, and had to spit out their brains when they blew up in your face, and she was flipping out about a house fly!

"Please? Mr. Lynnel?" She shivers, whispers, "I can still sense it's there."

"God damn kids these days," You grumble, affixing a glare at your charge. Seventeen, too thick glasses, mousy, weak chin, long brown hair, always skinny awkward. Trying her best to compact herself in to a bar and hide between the car door and the seat. What a wuss.

"Ya know, when I was your age-"
"Mr. Lynnel," She whimpers.
"Don't interrupt, now like I was saying," You scoop up the fly with your briefing papers, "When I was your age, I had to actually hunt for my food-"
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did, Margo, but we were too poor for bullets- had to hunt 'em with knives. Raccoons were best- good eating on them," You roll down the window, and usher the fly outside, and then pull it back up, "Honestly, if you don't like flies, I had hate to see you tango with a pack of raccoons with only a layer of grease and a rusty spoon to protect you."
"Yes, Mr. Lynnel," Margaret hisses through gritted teeth, "I would certainly not like that either, now is the fly-"
"Fly's gone squirt," With a final tug, the window shuts, "You okay over there now?"

Margaret gulps, and tentatively opens her eyes. That was the weirdest part. Her eyes were like stained glass. All kinds of weird colors, and never looking at you right, "I, I am now. Thank you, Mr. Lynnel," She gives a sigh, shakes her head, "Hate those. Hate being outside. Too much to focus on."

"Care to focus on the restaurant? That's just one thing."
"One thing, with thirty eight people in it, who are wearing clothes and jewelry, and eating food gnashing it with their teeth, smacking their lips, and and and-" She clenches her fist, shuts her eyes, starts mumbling something, then breathes out, "I'm sorry, Mr. Lynnel. I'm ready now."

"Ehhh, take five a bit, kiddo," You pop the glove compartment, and pull out the binder of information that Project ANTIGONE had given you, "Lemme just check this."

"Stop calling me kid," Margaret mumbles, but provides no other objection, she stares forward blankly, while you flip through the pages.

"SUBJECT: Margaret.
PURPOSE: Remote reconnaissance, covert surveillance, and __________"

Fun. They actually blacked out sections of the instruction manual. That's just grand.

"Margaret has, in laboratory conditions, been able to pick up conversations from ranges of 432 meters, and managed to relay information gleaned from conversations to testers adequately within ten minutes. Repeated testing of formula 6, applied via syringe (See attached bag for doses, six in total) has made her somewhat dependent on the chemical, but it has the beneficial side effect of providing additional clarity for visual scouting (Described as 'astral projecting'), and impacting memory retention. Use of notes or tape recorder advised if formula 6 is applied. Please be advised not to allow subject Margaret unrestrained access- doses if uncontrolled can put subject in coma, or kill her."

That explains why the office was so keen on you keeping the bag in your pocket.

The rest is the usual hocus pocus bullshit. Stay calm, do not be overly familiar with subject, ensure subject does not survive if she falls in to enemy hands, yadda yadda yadda.

Only real big points is that she hates repetitive noises, and that this drug apparently helps her focus. And that she might get a bit grabby for it.

Yeesh. You shake your head. This is all kinds of uncomfortable. Margaret's weird eyes focus on you.

"Are you done?"

You glance at Margo. Then glance at her arms. She's wearing a long shirt for summer.

"Yeah, Margo," You fold the manual shut, and set it aside, "Just, focus on the building like normal. Take a listen- if you hear the word 'Starlight,' focus on that, lemme know if you hear that, okay?"

Margaret looks like she's about to say something, then shakes her head. She brings her legs up (Bellbottoms? This was ANTIGONE's idea of 'covert'?) under her, and folds them like some kind of Tibetan monk. She starts murmuring something over and over and over again. You can see strain on her face.

"Starlight...Yes, Starlight. Three men, second floor, no..." You glance at the building. No second floor you can see. Just another Thai place in this shitty strip mall. She looks perturbed, "Not, second...They, they are talking about...Two years?" Two years ago, your partner was killed in this city, investigating Starlight, "Egh," Her brow furrows and she leans forward, "This, this is a lot harder than, than in the lab."

Her breathing is getting labored as you can see she's straining herself, squeezing her eyes shut. A bit of sweat drips off of her nose.

You grab the bag out of your pocket, roll it out on your lap. A little bottle with orange liquid in it, and a syringe. You glance up, out of the car. Jesus this is going to look bad.

No, thankfully no traffic on this side of the street. You breath out, take up the syringe, and pull a half dosage of orange.

"Margaret?"
"S-S-Sir, I, I am trying my, my best, please-"
"I've got some formula 6," Her breath catches, though her eyes stay shut. She's gone perfectly rigid at this, "Can you handle it?"

"Yes- yes sir- agh!" She shakes her head, and opens her eyes in frustration, "I lost it! I was doing so well too, oh well," She rolls up her sleeve, and sure enough, there's the marks of needles there, "I'll definitely be able to do it with this."

This is pretty fucked, you think as she holds her arm out to you. You're pretty sure that somewhere, an after school special is exploding from the sheer irony of an agent of the United States government shooting up a teenage girl with drugs. God bless America.

You've had plenty of practice at this from your time in 'Nam. You push it in, and then she frowns.
"Wait, that's only a half dose."
"You were doing so well," You murmur bringing the needle back. Damn, this kid was experienced, "Figured you wouldn't need more than half."

"Kid," You put the last of the drug away, and disassemble the syringe, to Margaret's horror, "I am in charge here, not Doctor Johnson."
"But Doctor Johnson said-"
"No, we're not going to be talking about Doctor Johnson here," You give her a stern glare, "Back in Nha Trang, I had a very good fucking friend of mine, man three times as big as you go out chasing the dragon from a needle no bigger than this one. Pushed the plunger in, and pft," You snap your finger, "Heart stopped," Well. That, the shrooms, mouthful of pills, and the ministrations of two very cheap hookers, but you don't tell her that part, "I don't know what's in this shit, but I can tell you, you were doing real well without it as it is. Just take a deep breath, and focus on your mission Margeret, okay?"

She sullenly glares away. Jesus Christ, if you knew that you'd be in this position...

"That's an order," Somewhere inside, a part of your soul that had years upon years of shit kicking from brass vomits hate, "Everything's gonna be fine kid. I know you can do this."

"Stop calling me kid," Mumbles Margaret, her weird eyes getting glassier and unfocused, "I'm...Seventeen..."

She stares dead ahead. Your signal, you suppose. You flip on the tape recorder, and starts talking.

"Men on second floor, discussing starlight," There she goes on again about a second floor.

"Focus."
Her eyes look up a bit, and then she starts narrating, switching between doing possibly the worst Boston accent you've ever heard in register of squeak, and a rather well done Brooklyn accent in a teenage girl's attempt at a deep voice.
"'Never found out, did he?' 'Nah, chowdahead ain't ever hoid of such a thing, tought it was sum kinda miracle-' 'And dat's why you got the collar?' 'Nah, oim goin' to a pahty, whaddya 'tink, wise guy? Gotta go back soon for that anyway, remember, I ain't never was been here,' 'Whadever ya say, Mikey- you keep 'dem crystals moving, and we get you da talent, and we golden.' Man with pistol. Behind."
>>
>>25951515
You were chuckling at her impromptu voice acting, but THAT made you bolt upright. But she's back to narrating.

"'Speakin' a talent, you hear from the Directa recently? Jeepers creepers, lookit dem peepers!'"

Did she mean behind the men? Or behind the car? You glance around afraid. Shit. There were a lot more people walking around the car now. She continues to drone on. You can't see anybody suspicious from where you're sitting at the moment, but...

You're not even fucking armed. This was supposed to be a milk run!

You breathe carefully, getting a grip. No gun, no fucking gun, not even a knife- god damn it, they said it was dangerous, that you were having flashbacks, not mentally stable, but what's mentally stable when you're pushing weird orange shit in to a little girl's veins man, what's stable about that, and not having a gun!

Chill, chill, you realize you're sweating, loosen the tie. You have to keep it together, don't freak out, not here, not in front of the kid. Who's still talking.

"'Swear I had nothing to do with that.' 'Nothing? Nothing to do with that? You can fucking lie to God all you like in your big fancy stone and glass building, but you're not lying to me, now talk, talk or I swear ta god,' 'Talk about what!' 'About two years ago- who the fuck squealed to Frank?'" Frank? Frank was your partner, "'I don't know no Frank-' 'Really? Hope your memory gets better in 5-' 'I swear to God, Mitchell, swear to God-' 'God seems pretty distant these days, Padre, 3-' 'Lemme look, huh? Lemme look around, I'll find out for ya-' 'What, so you can snitch to the next guy? You think I'm stupid? Time's up. Pat-' 'NOOOOOOO!'" She screams it, loud enough to cause people to look at the car, and then she flops forward in the seat, and makes a 'Plat' noise, and then 'drip, drip, drip'.

You didn't hear anything. People are walking by the car, confused. You look at the Thai place.

"'Hey, Pat-'" Margaret is speaking again, Brooklyn style, "'I got a weird feeling, somebody's watching. Wanna go check out front?'"

Hm. Well, you do have a camera for a reason. But you also see that Margaret's gotten a bloody nose.

"Kid, kid, c'mon kid," You grab Margaret's shoulders, get her upright, but her glass eyes are still unfocused and staring around, "Up and at 'em squirt, c'mon," That blood is still coming out of her nose in a stream, starting to drip off of her chin on to her clothes. There're a few people starting to stop and watch. Christ, why isn't this kid waking up, earlier she had to put all of her effort to fucking focus, and now she's just-

Focus, focus, FOCUS.

"Margaret," You grab her by the shoulders, and try to get her to look you square in the eyes, but her head keeps rolling around, and she keeps mumbling things, "Listen to me. I am your Handler, Agent Lynnell, and you need to wake up, eh? C'mon, I, I, I'll give you some formula 6 if you're good!"

"'Oh yeah, there you are,'" You hear her mumble, in that weird Brooklyn accent of hers, in a strange deep voice, "'Heh. Heh. Heh,'" She raises her head, manages to get one eye looking at yours, "'They nevah, evah, evah, see you comin' Pat."

Her nice, pretty white blouse is just soaked in blood now.

There's a woman knocking on your window. Looks old. "Is she alright?" You hear her shout through the glass.

"Yeah, ma'am, everything's fine!" You turn to the woman to give a thumb's up, no, not the left hand, you got blood on that one, the right. You look back to Margaret, sigh, "Sorry kid, desperate times."

You pull her arm out straight, reach out, and grab between knuckle and finger the skin just above the elbow, and twist.

It doesn't seem to have an effect for a moment, and then her eyes flutter and sharpen and she cries out in pain, "Gah! Ow! Wha- why-" She blanches suddenly, a terrible look on her face, and shouts, "Get us out of here! Please, just go!"

A slope headed giant is walking out in to the road now, directly ahead of you. A strange white shirt, and one of those puffy yellow vests. He's wearing what look like welder's gloves. He's easily nearly seven feet, nearly all muscle. He has a benign smile on his face. He isn't looking at you. He's looking at her.

"LEFT!" Margaret is shouting, "LEFT!"

You jerk hard on the wheel, banking left- you were just heading straight for that guy, why would she be asking-

You car fishtails, hard, as SOMETHING hits the right side, something around the big looking guy, something that shears off the right hand mirror, shatters the windows on the right side, and emits a god awful noise that nearly deafens you for a minute. You blink. The tall man wasn't there. He wasn't there at all. There was a CAR. What the shit? You were sure there was nobody in the street!

You glance up. On the left hand side. The giant again, standing in front of the brick siding of an alleyway. This time, no benign smile. He looks like he's focusing, hard, on that big misshaped chrome dome of his. He looks at you, frowns, lifts his gun-

"Get down!" You grab Margaret by the shoulder pushing her down, and try to crouch yourself as best as you can while still able to see over the dashboard. You hear the characteristic noise of a makarov. Pop. Your windshield spiderwebs. Pop. You're back underneath black skies outside of Da Nang. Pop. Window on the left side joins its brother in the great glazier in the sky. Pop. White flares, coming down on little parachutes, illuminating the landscape like some kind of hellish moonscape, white and black. Pop. You feel something hot and small and sharp go through your side. Pop. You're on a boat, alone. There used to be other men on it, but not any more. Pop. That one embeds itself in the frame of the car.

Then you're clear. On the way back to base.

"Why didn't you give me my full dose?" Margaret whispers, hands up on her nose. You glance over. No shots hit her. Good. You lean back, and suddenly realize your body really doesn't want to.

"You were fine without it, you could do your job."
"I didn't want to REMEMBER!" She shouts, sitting up straight, tears in her eyes, "I hate it! I hate remembering it! I didn't want to see," She futilely tries to clean her face, rubbing the back of her sleeve across her face, "I don't want to remember...But now I will! I'll, oh, oh God," she murmurs folding up again, sobbing.

You try to bring yourself back, slowly, but god, it burns like fire. You bite your lip not to scream. Girl couldn't know, "I can understand that, really," You lean back into the seat, and suddenly get very short of breath. Just ten minutes more, and you'll be back at the lab, and they can look at Margaret.
"No you don't," she sullenly whispers, head in her hands, "Oh God. He saw me. They're not supposed to be able to do that."
"Yeah," You really are trying your best to follow along with the conversation, but man your eyes are getting heavy now.
She sniffs, wipes her nose again, but only succeeds in smearing the blood. She glares at you- but then freezes.
>>
"Oh, ohmigod! You got shot!"
"It's not nearly as bad as it looks," You really wish she had just kept on the temper tantrum. Let's see, left at the park...
"No, no that is BAD! Dr. Johnson, he said, oh no, oh no Lynnel, that's bad! That's, that's a chest wound!"
"Well, actually, he got me in the back, so I don't know if that counts," You mumble, REALLY trying to put this out of your head, okay, and there's the building with that wacky modern art out front, go two blocks past it, get to the parking garage. Meanwhile, Margaret is starting to freak out.
"I, I, I am so sorry, I, oh no, this just like what Anna says, she's so right, I get so selfish, wait I could put on a tourniquet, put pressure on the wound-"
"Look, I'm fine, really," You lie, "We're almost there anyway, so cut it out with the histrionics-"
"You might be dying! Look, look, there's a hospital!" She points at the nice, squeaky clean building that you vaguely remember has a saint in the name, "Look, just go there!"
"With a secret black ops genetic experiment in the passenger seat?" You cough. Just two more blocks, hold out until then, "You still high?"
"Look," Margaret gets logical now, raises both hands, "If you get in a car wreck, same thing will happen, right? So, come on, just pull in there, you'll die otherwise!"

Funny kid. She still can work tears in to her eyes behind those stupid googly glasses of hers.

"Margaret," You groan, straining to keep your eyes open, "Just stay calm, I've done this before."
"You, you have to be kidding me-" Margaret leans over the seat to scream right in your ear, which really isn't helping the situation, "You're going to fucking DIE!" A part of you wonders who taught her that word. Hell, who taught YOU that word? You remember thinking you invented it, and then getting spanked for running around the house yelling it.

"Kid," You whisper.
"I'm not a kid, stop saying that," She hisses, as you drive on.
"Whatever, listen," You really shouldn't be saying this, you think. Gotta save your strength. But you guess her pessimism has gotten to you, "If I pulled in to that hospital, the first thing they would have asked is who the hell you were."
"I'm Margaret, what else is there to know?"
"Well, plenty. Like, why you got those weird eyes, Margo?"
"That, my eyes aren't weird!"
"No, they're pretty. But not the pretty people are used to," You're rambling now. That's a bad sign. You see a red light coming up. No one's passing through though. You gun it. Might be able to squeeze a bit more time out if you cut this light.
"That, that, well, thank you Mr. Lynnel," She's flustered, looking away. Good. Don't ask about the blood.

Skipped that light. Good. Just one more red light, and then you're in the parking garage.

"So, they might ask you questions. And, you wouldn't have answers, would you?"
Margaret doesn't respond initially, she looks distantly, "No, no, Mr. Lynnel-"
"Exactly, you wouldn't have answers, I'm trying to," You swallow some blood, gun the engine. Just one more street, one more light, "Trying to help you-"
"LYNNEL! STOP THE CAR! DON'T-"
You're aware of a screech of rubber. Fuck. Well, at least he's coming on the driver's side. And Margaret's still buckled up. That's good too. Deafening noise.

You car spins, momentarily on two wheels before it rights itself, staying on four, spinning leaving a curling trail of burnt rubber.

You can't really hear all that well. You just hear noise, as if from very far away.

Fucking driving with a chest wound. What were you thinking? She's shouting down at you. Her blood covered face, her stupid glasses cracked, and those weird, weird eyes.

Thinking of a cult that has psychics of their own, maybe. Of a hospital that might have somebody working for one of the fastest growing religions in America. Of a conversation about talent scouting.

You're in front of the parking garage. Pretty soon, somebody'll be out. They'll get her picked up, brought home.

Maybe you'll get fixed too. You don't know. You feel really damn comfortable. You close your eyes, and sleep on the concrete.

It's a similar quest, but we handle a "tamed" Witch and we go on missions hunting and arresting witches.

That character is either dead or going to be in the hospital for a while. His ability to fight has been weakened considerably by not possessing a weapon. So he would have had to fight the enemy a buff psychic with his hands and anything he could find. If he had gone in the building or stepped out the car he would have been done for. Ambiguous morality, bad fighting odds, strange situation.

Maybe they need an adult with a touch of psychic ability. The guy who has the knack to do things, a six sense, and has done almost everything he put his mind to.
