@GhostAdjutant

You were a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Your Codename is Delta Phoenix. You received a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. "

It seems like a lifetime since the fall of Korhal disabled your neural inhibitor and you went rogue. With the help of a rogue Dominion Marine, Jacob Henderson, you and your small crew secured a Gorgon-Class battlecruiser you now call The Daluke. The Dominion, bounty hunters, and criminal scum alike are all after you with a massive 1.5 billion credit bounty on your head. But they're going to have to earn it, first. The Survivors of Phoenix team have joined you on your mission to dismantle the Dominion and free the fringe worlds.

You took the technology to create Spectres from Captain James Raven and left him and his crew stranded on a Dominion station. You've returned to New Albuquerque in the stolen Valkyrie, and will soon take a bounty-hunting job. But first, you need to look at this new technology.

Adjutant A.I. online.
Good Morning, Commander.

I have forwarded the decrypted Project Shadowblade files to your science team, Commander. Dr. Nelhav's report is prepared.

>"Commandah. Virst I vould like to tell you vhat an honor eet is to vork alongside you. I haff taken a look at zee materials and procedures involved, und I haff determined zee side effects viff some accuracy, however zee compounds haff a tendency to be unstable."

Psi Indoctrinators, Jorium, and Terrazine used in combination can open up latent psionics in some individuals, revealing psi-class-5 signatures on occasion, effectively creating 'new' ghosts with resoc training.

These compounds can increase the latent psi index of already psychic individuals by 1.

These compounds have a chance of creating any of the following side effects: impaired social interaction and verbal and non-verbal communication, repetitive or stereotyped behavior, onset of babbling, unusual gestures, diminished responsiveness, compulsive behavior that appears to follow rules such as arranging objects in stacks or lines, Nonconforming attitude, idealistic, intense curiosity, obsession with hobby or hobbies, increased intelligence, extreme opinionation, unusual living or eating habits, stronger moral obligations, increase in superstitious or supernatural beliefs, mischievous sense of humor, minor audial or visual hallucinations.

Nova: Commander Raynor! I am sending this transmission to warn you about Toss. Spectres are ghosts that terrazine has invariably turned into psychopaths.

Background Ghost: Whenever I see a world untouched by war, a world of innocense, a world of clear lakes and lush forests... I just wanna nuke the fuck out of it...

Jim Raynor: Well... I'm not sure it's the terazine to blame...

Just as a note, when the side effect list is FOUR LINES LONG then it's better to not take the product

Seriously, fuck Spectres

Terran Dominion scientists have developed similar devices for use by ghosts and similar soldiers using Protoss technology, Commander.

We do not have access to that technology at this time, however.

- Lock onto Dominion political prisoners and dissidents, send the actual Spectres to set them free.

I say go ahead and take it as a test run. We will probably get a minor social or behavioral weakpoint... and theres a chance we might get improved intelligence. Thankfully none of the of listed side-effects are psycosis or meglomania.

Terrazine has a half-life of several hours, but it builds up in the system over time and with repeated use. It is addictive, causing withdrawal symptoms after several hours. Stabilized by a little jorium, terrazine is inhaled by spectres like a drug. If the spectre keeps to a strict schedule, the side effects are minimized.

"I don't really know my story. I was a Dominion Ghost, apparently I was trying to get out during the last job they sent me on, but they found out and resoced me beforehand. I forgot everything, though I do have nightmares about a little girl crying for her mother, that might be me.

But on that last mission I went rogue after the Ghost Academy got destroyed and the various inhibitors went offline, I picked up Henderson, we hightailed it out of there, got a crew, found this battlecruiser, fixed it up, got more crew, and have just been trying to keep my crew safe ever since. Haven't done the best job though, I'm responsible for these people, and I keep on being unable to save them all."

>Well there's not much to tell about me. There I was on Umoja when I head a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. ". But I was on a mission, so I did what I had to do and got out. On the way I realized the academy had fallen and I had free will once again, so I went rogue, saved Henderson from the planet, one thing led to another and soon enough we're on a zerg infested battlecruiser with a swarm out for blood not far behind. We fixed it and blind-jumped. The rest you know from personal experience I guess.

we get locked in the brig for two months... possibly bound and gagged.....

Though, this could be a good PR thing, basically us going 'I wouldn't subject my crew to anything I would not be willing to try first' kind of thing.... Might be able to get some volunteers if all goes well... Then we will be 'cooking with gasoline' as the saying goes I believe... or would Vespien be a better term here...

You vaguely remember your last words as you drift into darkness.

>"Tell Charlie, If I die, she can have my suit.... and tell Henderson.... He does not get the ship...."

It's dark. Purple gas is everywhere. You wade through the fog aimlessly.

>"Hello!? Is anyone there?!"
A voice echos from every direction at once. It thunders through your skulls.

>"R-r-r-rrriiisssiiinnngg Ppppphoooeeenniixx!"
>"Kassix! Where are you!?"

You hear the familiar beep and voice of your Adjutant.
>"Nuclear Launch Detected."

>"Y-y-y-yyyyoouu must let them live, Rising Phoenix!""
>"Who!? Kassix!? KASSIX!?"

Several shapes begin to close in on you, you recognize them as Protoss. Kassix with his combat trophies is at the front.

>"Th-th-th-there is no time, Rising Phoenix. The Darkness encroaches."
>"Kassix! Please, what do I need to do!? Who has to live!?"

There is a flash of light. You shield your eyes. As you open them Kassix is gone, replaced by a Protoss skeleton. Your adjutant's Geiger counter goes wild. The Protoss reaches a hand out.

>"U-u-u-u-us. All of us."

The skeleton's hand reaches out and grabs you. Then another, and another. The hands burn like lightning, racing a path to your skull, drilling into your brain. You can see everything. You know everything. It's all so clear! Everything is so clear!

The darkness comes. It pulls the Protoss skeletons away, one by one, into the darkness, and you are left with nothing but your own death.

>"KASSIX! NOOOOOOO!"

>Waiting...

If we go cold turkey there's no fucking point to having done this. We haven't experienced any really negative side effects, and we may want to use this in the future to get operatives.

You come upon the factories. It's so far out that the roads are just dirt, tumbleweeds roll past. You sense him long before you see him, but you see a man with a large hat in all black leaning against the door to it.

>"Hey! We're looking for Scarmaster."

The man stands up and walks to the center of the road. He flicks the cigarette he was smoking to one side then holds his arms out. A bandana covers his face, but what is visible is heavily scarred. Somewhat noticeable is the fact that you can't read his thoughts.

>"Who wants to know?"

>"We're here to bring him in, alive or dead."

>"You are, how do you say, Confused. You are here to either die, or walk away."

The man's fingers twitch. You suspect they're hovering over his sidearms.

I'm getting kind of bored here. What happened to they days of getting the names of even our most basic new recruits? Sure that level of detail couldn't be maintained as the scope increased, but doing the same with more important characters could. Charlie and Whiskey had promise but all three ghosts have been non-entities since joining, although at least they've interacted with DP from time to time, unlike every other character, established or not. More time was wasted bitching about one-note gimmicks like Steve Irwin and Captain Pussy than actually interacting in any meaningful way with any character. This is practically a civ-game at the moment, which isn't what I signed up for, and the moronic votes ruin that aspect anyway.

So I just woke up, and I'm re-reading the thread and wondering to myself why Adjutant rolled for the tie breaker, is no the point of the vote to determine the majority consensus based on OUR votes?

If we come to a tiebreaker, let there be some discussion, clearly there was some going on, and Adjutant just decided for us, and without being able to see the dice rolled, to me, it seems railroady as fuck considering that it happened twice.

I'm not accusing you Adjy, just pointing out that this is what this thread reads like, and for the love of god, in the future, if we have a tie, let us discuss it and come to a majority vote rather than deciding for us, regardless of whether you use dice or not, because at that point, why bother voting?

>Because you're a ghost and walking up and hugging random crew members is fucking stupid on par with hugging your adjutant.
>You're a goddamn half-robot brainwashed killing machine
Actually, we're a freed formerly brainwashed killing machine. As such, we're still contending with being able to, you know, feel emotions.
I'm pretty sure the hugging Charlie thing comes from the fact that she and Delta have history and she's sad that Delta doesn't remember shit, and it makes sense that Delta would attempt to awkwardly comfort someone she was close enough to apparently consider ditching the Dominion with.
I'm also 50% sure the most of the shipping is jokes. But this being /d/lite and us having a really dumb reader base I can't be 100% sure.
>>
>>25981143
My opinion is when a tie occurs, give people a chance to discuss things and then do a revote, it would be a stupid system if you had a tie, then someone goes fuck it, and samefags for the other option just because they are in a hurry
>>
>>25981274
That was basically the original system, threads went on forever with maybe 1 or 2 things being decided before votes were added.

>>25981268
I assume that the suggestion is lumped together with all the futa adjutant requests because of that.
>>
>>25981048
Oh fuck off, that was just an example of people literally doing what you were saying, and you sure indulged them before. Plenty of people were posting about wanting to follow up on various named grunts/civilians from earlier in the quest without any acknowledgement for example. People suggested several things like this at points where things seemed to be between missions. How should they know they needed to post obsessively about it to get any acknowledgement when there was plenty of interaction for most of the quest without anons being pro-active about it beyond generally expressing interest in characters?
>>
>>25981299
> threads went on forever

In that case, I'd say have a 20 minute limit on discussing things before forcing a revote

I must say, I like how the current votes have a 4-4.5 minute limit, stop samefags on legitimate votes
>>
>>25981048
Had to happen sometime. Farewell.
>>
>>25981048
I would just like to point out that, due to the sheer number of anons in this quest, such small and specific things, such as naming people and/or talking to our crew became incredibly difficult to do via consensus, because nearly every other anon was too concerned with where our next juicy power boost came from.

It's no one's fault really, just the curse of popular quests. I half wish there was only 5 or so anons in the quest, nice and small and keep things quick and less angry.

All the same, I hate to hear the rage got to you Adjutant, I hope you change your mind after cooling down.
I manage to block out the stupidity somehow...that's all I can suggest really.
>>
>>25981381
> I half wish there was only 5 or so anons in the quest

I fully wish there were only 5 people here besides Adjutant, would improve everything immensely, especially Delta's decision making skills
>>
>>25981381
I think things were better when the quests were at like 3-4 AM and no one except the really dedicated people could participate.
>>
>>25981405
You know, people call the people in Yellowman Quest dicks sometime, but at least they fucking don't have all this idiocy going on and stupid suggestions are shot down pretty quick.

It's not even that I mind having new people come in. It's that I mind new people coming in, and going "Whut, we power UPEH? YAY POWER UP" and then when we yell at them about the consequences "YOU GUISE SUCK FUK U RAILROADZ LOL"

Its not hard to see how it pisses someone off.
>>
>>25981048
Take your time, it's not like the rest of us are going anywhere.

But thank you, THANK YOU, for ignoring all the fucking 'hug' options. That one time we hugged the Adjutant onboard the Daluke was one of the most painful moments of the quest for me, aside from the time we tried to give a frightened little girl a 'hero speech'.

But with /tg/'s tunnel vision, Stupid Good tendancies, inability to read, incomprehension of critical plot elements (ie Adjutant is in-character), and desire to be the little girl, I don't see any of these problems fixing themselves any time soon.

But as I said, take your time cooling down. It's not like you owe us anything.
>>
>>25981459
it does not, it includes no one with a name, besides Adjutant and his various alias'
>>
>>25981491
hopefully, when Adjy comes back, all the retards have left after raging that they did not get their daily dose of stupid
>>
>>25981491
You know, I didn't even mind the hug thing, anon? Hell, maybe it being awkward spoke more volumes about how messed up DP was in the head.

Same with Charlie, she probably would've looked at us like "Lol wtf are you doin?" And that woulda been fine too.

But as I said, such specific and important details are lost when there are 10+ anons screaming for Power ups.
>>
I like how I am blamed for every bad decision we did. I am only one person. Just because I have namefagged doesn't make me the leader of the faction that takes risks.

That's fine, he seems to have a pretty good grasp of the universe anyway.

It's all the other anons who don't know jack and get mad when they're not the majority and yell railroad.

Seriously, you think I'm not mad when I lost out to us being a Spectre? Of course I was! But I sucked it up because that's what you do in a democracy.
>>
>>25981536
you're not responsible for every single one no

but you vote for them
>>
>>25981564
I think people are irritated because he consistently makes fucking stupid decisions .

Add to that people don't read. Christ, Adjutant mentioned the "No, you can't use psionic reflexes" part in a post, and then we've got people calling for it. It's not the hardest thing in the world to read what's posted instead of bitching that your exact method wasn't perfect.
>>
>>25981626
I will admit to accidentally missing that, but I had anons clear it up for me quickly, so I was thankful for that.
>>
couple things I have learned here.

Character Interaction: Gotta outright chase it. A lot of quest masters seem to throw them at you. Not Adjutant. We have to choose to talk to them instead. I wouldn't mind talking to our XO, our ghosts, Mia and Henderson a bit more. So if Adjutant DOES decide to continue there is that to keep in mind.

Risk VS Reward: A lot of people have problems with the way this goes. Adjutant getting rid of the percentages hasn't helped as people try to guess how MUCH of a risk one thing is to do. I am guilty of erring on the side of risk a great deal of time. Others would have us never take the more dangerous but lucerative option. This latest duel is case-in-point. They see the loss of psionic reflexes as damning while I see it as a setback that we can overcome.
>>
So, I was just going back through the thread, rereading everything, and I'm counting the votes for the whether we test the spectreness on us or not thing and if you go by the time Adjutant posted for votes to stop (18:59), and not by the votes before that post(19:01), I'm seeing that vote 1 is the only one with 5 votes, the others have 4 each (that one vote ahead for 1 was posted at 18:59, so I guess it counts?)

Someone want to double check that for me, because if sooo

shitstorm incoming
>>
>>25981683
Then how do the others account for it after it was posted repeatedly? This happens every thread. Okay, he expected us to go in and assassinate the infestor and brood mother rather than fighting them with our 'marine core'. He rolled with it. But people constantly ignore what is typed and ask the same question, over and over again. We've got people who namefag for no apparent reason driving through their own agenda and it leads to, oh, no quest. Funny, that.
>>
>>25981753
I think he meant 18:59:59 anon.
>>
>>25981762
if he did, then option 1 outright won the vote at a tally of 5, because its 5th vote was posted before 19:00 at 18:59, while the other options only had 4 votes each by then, discouting illegitimate votes on all options
>>
>>25981773
Welp, time to forget this thread ever existed...
>>
>>25981773
honestly I reached the same count...
>>
>>25981761
With all the arguing? I only read Adjutant's replies and replies aimed at me when it's discussion heavy.

Again, that was my fault, and I should've caught what it meant in Adjy's original post. My bad.

Namefagging has nothing to do with the shitstorm. It's just people being butthurt cuz they didn't get their way.
>>
>>25981796

>>
(won damnit.)
>>
>>25981819
and yet, 2 separate people have counted it using the rules he posted, so, it seems like he discounted the vote at 18:59

I am confused
>>
>>25981845
Maybe a miscount then? A simple mistake really, if it is.

I'm giving Adjutant the benefit of the doubt.
>>
>>25981761
It's likely because some people don't bother reading anything past the next story post. Maybe they feel that they GOTTA POST FAST or something.

>>25981683
Honestly, I was just as confused about the lack of avaliable psychic reflexes as you were. If Adjutant had explained beforehand that they relied on sensing intent rather than Matrix-style reflexes then I doubt there would have been any more confusion. Other than the usual people not remembering, at least.

>USE THE BANSHEE TO SUPPORT THE WRAITHS
>"Banshees are not space capable."
>>
>>25981883
But see that's what I was talking about earlier, due to the popularity of the quest and it going so fast, it's hard to get any detailed information out of Adjutant

Again, no one's fault in particular, it's just the curse that comes with popularity.

As for the Banshee thing, that was simple lore ignorance. Only way to fix that was hope the newfags would at least LOOK at the wiki

A lot to ask, I know.
>>
>>25981921
The one thing I found this quest got fucked over so hard by was lack of lore knowledge and just plain unwillingness to reread shit. Never before had I seen so many damn idiots in a quest. Which is saying something considering this is /tg/ were talking about.
>>
one of the namefags may have been all for Risk [or 'stupid' as it sometimes may have been] along with a bunch of anons.

That is actually awesome, seeing people take risks in the name of being in a shitty position. Despite my dislike of the majority of said Risks.

The problem with the Risk options was that any consequences were minor at best, and seemed to vanish moments later. This quickly saw the Risk crowd continue to take Risk over other options, because it was clear that nothing bad would happen for long.

This was fun while it lasted, but there were two sets of kiddie routines running in the QM's processors.

Blaming it all on the namefag is just a whiny ass way of looking at the root problem.

Thanks for the run, Adjutant. It was fun while it lasted, even if I was reading everything after the fact.
>>
...Should...um...should we still archive the thread?
>>
>>25981921
so, if this continues, whenever we encounter something new, even in passing or at a glimpse, someone (one of us anons) should link to that units wiki page, so all can be enlightened
>>
>>25981975
it already is, Adjutant archives them at the start because of anti-quest trolls misarchiving a few in the past
>>
>>25981966

>>
>>25982037

>>
>>25981921
It's hard because Adjutant doesn't volunteer the information (because as a character it doesn't know that we don't know) and because very few people seem interested in getting explanations. Like any time we went to a new system and got a list of sensor contacts that were simply names or simple descriptions. I've only ever read these threads from the archives, but if there's one thing I could change it would be Adjutant's incentive to convey information.

A brief tactical analysis of which ship class would best fit each emergency response, whether that ship squawking distress is a battlecruiser or a cargo vessel, how exactly our powers work... This is stuff you find out by scrolling your cursor over the object, not by constantly having to ask someone.
>>
>>25982252
The only way would be to constantly break character I suppose...or for us anons to have a reasonable discussion that didn't involve yelling at each other.
>>
>>25982286
That's hard when you've got people trying to, say, pilot vikings, things that are explicitly extremely dangerous even with training that we do not have training for.

>>
>>25982922
likewise. Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us.
>>
>>25982286
In a very important way, there isn't really much of a character to break. I mean, all Delta Pheonix seems to be is a completely unfiltered representation of us Anons. Adjutant tries to be that filter, but he insists on doing so ICly rather than as a proper GM. So what that means is that Delta is exactly what we make her and what we've made her is an asocial murderhobo.

>Gotta get more money
>Need more marines
>Have to get stronger
>Gotta save people

That sums up perhaps the entirety of how we've personalized this character, our avatar. See all of that? Those aren't character traits, those are missions. We don't need to talk to people to do those things, we don't need to second-guess ourself to do those things, so our character doesn't. Maybe if we could divert ourselves from the trek of constantly improving our combat readiness we could establish some personality in our avatar, something that would allow Adjutant to write her as something more than our dumbass ideas transferred to type.

Until we quit trying to be nothing more than a weapon, we aren't going to get any sort of help from this GM.

Frankly, I like his approach to this.
>>
>>25983958
That's part of what I was saying. Most of the new anons just want the next biggest power up, and it's hard enough to fight for a SMART option on missions, much less shooting the breeze with our crew.
>>
>>25983958
that would be due to the inner munchkin in everyone clouding their judgment
