10th day of prophecy, 07:20 PM, inside the main camp of the crusaders. Currently located at the alchemical store of Ithel Hermingild.

‘’Have you ever seen an angel before, Siegfried?’’

Around ten to twenty minutes after you acquired this message from the Inquisition (that you carefully hid on your person; of course), Leila interrupted your little chitchat with the alchemist while half of your mind was busy musing over what would happen later on tonight, with Emeth out of commission and alone into the likely deserted docks of the camp… no doubt that someone is reaching out to you meaning that you only have one shot at this to make the first step closer to Ahriman, today is crucial, incredibly crucial, as the Head Inquisitor you expect him to not re use asset that’d fail they’re first assignment, in his shoes you’d do the very same and…

‘’Siegfried?’’

Your thoughts are interrupted when the Purifier put her head on your shoulders, her green eyes peering into yours with concern and you feel your heartbeat quicken somewhat at being in close proximity with such a pretty girl.

No doubts about it, women are definitely your weakness.

‘’I ah… angels? Right I saw one, yeah’’

You shake your head as the girl frown, stiffening her grips as she look all over your face, making you smile broadly as bravado replace your momentary confusion, you try your best to avoid looking at the naked Emeth in your field of view as well, the alchemist is so concentrated on her task you doubt she’s listening to your exchange.

‘’I see… well, the rumor was true, angels debarked from a ship, and they were led by a strange looking male…’’
She stops, glancing down to her… no your sword, the angel residing inside of it was very different from those others, without a doubt.

‘’His skin looked like it was made of metals, his eyes looked like crafted jewels in a sense, he was leading two robbed angels that were concealing their identities with robes and masks and… the oddest thing is, there was a child in the middle of them, concealed in an uniform similar to what those winged folks were wearing, aside from the leader’’

No doubt about it, Orion is in the camp now, there’s only a single entity you saw that fit the description; skin of metal definitely stand out, at least you know the Embodiment face thank to your mother briefing, this reality however, send a very uncomfortable chill down your spine.

‘’That’s not all, there’s quite a few rumors going on and I suspect that information was leaked, I’ve picked up two very interesting things’’

The girl takes a step back, crossing her arms and nailing you with a serious face empty of nonsense.

‘’One, there’s been some very important disturbances far from here in a city near a mountain, angels descended from the sky and invaded a place full of beastwomen… and met ferocious resistance, not only that, but apparently there’s been talk of a young man with a Holy Sword coming to the defense of the monsters as the fight grew fierce, aside from that, the result of that battle are murky and unreliable but what’s certain is that there was an aerial invasion today’’

You do your best to keep your face straight as you realize that the Rahall stronghold is in a very, very precarious position.
Either way you don’t have time to dwell on it, but Leila certainly does as she keeps looking at you with a guarded face.

‘’I know of only one young man with a holy sword…’’

You also spring forward to keep her from talking given the proximity of the alchemist but, thankfully, your benefactor simply shakes her head and run a hand through her long golden hair.

‘’You look a bit agitated, care to share your worries?’’

How the hell… bah, probably female intuition or something, regardless you could inform her of the letter, push the discussion in another direction; the choice is yours.

Nothing is known about him, Leila picked up the rumor and that's as far as her information goes.

For the time being.

Of course you could ask her to try and investigate, maybe that's what you were implying but I just want to make sure.

Ok, if there is no more info to be had for now let us see what's bothering her. After all, I know one thing and that's that Orion and Radiance do NOT get along well with each other.

Also, nice pic of Emerelda, it's getting saved. Too bad Emeth couldn't have been a nanomachine colony...

You take your time to examine your surroundings, although you make certain to not open the cover of the entrance, the sounds around the tent, along with the incessant tinkering of Ithel doesn’t tell you if anything is out of the norm but you’ll bet your right arm that there’s an observer glued to this place, thus, you step away from the entrance while feigning discomfort and you take out the letter from your pocket and hand it to the girl, whose eyes narrows immediately upon identifying the broken seal of the Inquisition, it only take half a second for her to read the short sentence and hand you back the letter, all the while you concentrated upon the inert form of your bodyguard, the set of golden runes over her entire body made for a truly surreal sight, Ithel was busying adding details into them which was probably why the entire operation would take so long.

‘’I know how to keep out of sight’’

You almost didn’t hear the Purifier; her voice was almost trampled by the marching of soldiers.

‘’I can watch from afar and keep you safe if need be’’

She put a hand on your shoulder for emphasis as you ponder the option.

Being watched by an ally would definitely make you feel safer in case… something dramatic were to happen.

Do you accept her proposition?

You finally resolve yourself to shake your head, your change of heart cause an immediate scowl on her face as she palm the holy sword, her eyes silently asking you why, to which you decide to oblige.

‘’This is something I must do alone, I’m certain they’ll have the docks locked in.’’

‘’But…’’

‘’Leila’’

This time you turn to look at her seriously, your eyes traveling from her face to the sword, she really has taken a great liking to the thing.

‘’I’ll be letting you keep this for a while longer.’’

She simply return an annoyed tsk while shaking her head, but doesn’t press the issue any further and silence quickly fill the little busy tent, the alchemist obviously doing her best to ignore the two of you although, she look so concentrated on her task she’d likely not react to a sudden fire.

‘’Now, do you have anything on your mind? You looked worried when you were telling me this stuff earlier.’’

She grace you with a sarcastic laugh and a nod, her remark being ‘’Now I do’’ sounded almost like a jest but, soon enough, her scowl deepen as she let out a small statement in a low, quiet voice.

‘’I’m just wondering what these angels are doing, they were headed for Lex tent…’’

Then she sighs and shakes her head.

‘’Anyway that’s not important; you’ve got to watch over your girlfriend for now.

Fair enough, even so you don’t wish to disturb the little alchemist.

10th day of prophecy, 23:35 PM, in the docks of the crusaders.

It isn’t very often that you’ve been out alone in the dead of night; you were always followed by a bodyguard-girlfriend or a few gentle monsters during your time on the island, without mentioning all the times you decided to sleep with everyone in one big slumber party, you’ve got to admit that you miss doing these small shenanigans but…

Now is not the time for this.

The docks look makeshift at best, several walkways of woods spread to many of the bigger ships that looks to still be unloading stuff, all of them are patrolled by some rank and file that don’t look too happy with their jobs, some ships are equipped with ballista, others seem to still have a full crew onboard being uselessly loud and restless; many chants escape the depths of these wooden giant to die off in the night and, in the distance of the sea, many other ships are waiting while numerous, in fact uncountable, amount of smaller boats are arrayed on the coast, ready to offload more supplies.

You don’t see any kind of big ships that would be fitting for the Embodiment of Strife to ride upon and, for the time being, you’ve been busying yourself looking up at the night sky and identifying the various constellations while late night supplier lifted some crate into the depth of the camp.

You crossed paths with men and woman and continue to do so even now; identifying a member of the inquisition is, quite simply, impossible in your current predicament and thus, you are forced to wait while reminiscing the previous days…

It’s only been around two days, but you are seriously missing grabbing some fluffy tails and wings.

Regardless, you don’t let your mental meandering distract you; you’ve been standing here suckling your thumbs since 9pm, you feel VERY bored at this trial of patience but you truly had no other choice; Emeth tuning could be done any seconds now and you tasked the Purifier with looking over the girl and preventing her from turning the while camp inside out to find you.

You really hope Mylen isn’t giving the girls some kind of hells, that woman can be a serious pain if she think she failed her duties…

What about Athena corruption? If you were still there you could use your hunger to stave some of it off, Hadraniel is also stalked by that entity and cannot escape into the sword, even if she told you such a thing was no longer needed after absorbing the life-force of the forest, you can’t help but worry. Tsukiyomi could be summoning heroes too, after all you were a precious agent and you went off into the church with a vital prototype.

Baaaah! Dammit!

Then, your hard earned reflexes stiffen and you almost whirl and embrace focus to nail someone that snuck up on you; a sound of footstep much close for comfort sent alarms blaring but you stop yourself at great expense, remembering your purpose.

‘’One of the ship here is called the Scarlet’’

You do your best to avoid looking back, the voice sound metallic and artificial, very much reminding you of Leila mask but in a worse fashion, it’s as if you were speaking to some kind of golem built without humanity, you can’t find a masculine or feminine tone.

‘’It’s smuggling an undesirable item; find it and get rid of it’’

You feel a hand putting something in your back pocket, and dare not move or budge; if the individual snuck up on you like that, you can’t afford the misjudgment of looking back.

It’s only a good 5 minutes after the sudden intruder disappearance that you take this new item; it’s a silver badge of the Inquisition, the symbols of the closed fist around a big eye is striking, as are the many inscription of the Old tongue across its surface praying to the Father Creator and admonishing any perceived threat to the unrighteousness of the person holding this esteemed, honored badge radiating a small amount of Holy magic.

This… is the real deal, something that only a few Inquisitors managed to get their hands on.

So… is this the hazing of the Inquisition?

What do you do?

Hell yeah we got ourselves an Inquisitorial Rosette. We have authoritah!

We do as we are told. We find the ship called the Scarlet and take care of their little problem with extreme prejudice. They get uppity we flash our new credentials and put them in their place.

It's probably a Lamia. This will ding our SAN but we gotta do it.
>>
>>26014376
Start investigating the ships then. Gotta get on our mission.

You take a few moments to breathe in and out as you look at the rosette, that object is very, very important and you’ll have to lie your way through this assignment for certain; is this how the Inquisition to its thing now?

Or… maybe your reputation as the Butcher makes you a special case.

You’ve jumped through so many regulations that, by this point, the entire concept almost sound alien to you.
Regardless, you put the large insignia in your pocket, not willing to tip your hand quite yet and find one of the soldiers patrolling the line of big ships, on first glance you notice that it’s a girl, rather young and pretty stiff, she immediately stop to look at you before you even start uttering a single word.

‘’Greeting milady, I would like to find the ship called ‘’Scarlet’’, could you play show me where it is?’’

‘’a-ah…Scarlet? It’s the biggest… no one of the biggest civilians ships, it’s… that one’’

Her grip on her halberd tighten in what you think may be nervousness as she point to a pretty big ship; you have absolutely no knowledge of the sea or what make a galley different form… another galley or other sea worthy vessel so, for all intent and purpose, you look at a big galley looking relatively empty, patrolled by 5 soldiers, two of which are on the docks looking very bored while the rest are on the deck, no sign of the actual crew quite yet and as your observation continue, you notice that you could probably sneak inside by activating

Focus and casting yourself up around the northeast of the ship, with a little luck and prudence you’d probably be able to enter the bowels of the ships…

The constant, strong magic in the camp is more than enough to camouflage you.

Or you can take the diplomatic route; you do have an Inquisitorial badge after all.
>>
>>26014666
Damnit all. They're watching us. It isn't just a question of getting it done it's a question of getting it done the right way.

Since Siggy has next to no points in Stealth and a ton in Diplomacy I say we go for the diplomatic route. Once more, they get uppity we flash our credentials. We're getting into that ship whether the guards like it or not.

The Inquisition likes to throw its weight around right?
>>
>>26014776

They prefer to get the job done, but it never hurt to throw some weight of course.
>>
>>26014875

As much as you’d like to channel some of Sylphis skills, you decide to play to your strength and approach the sentry who, on your approach, let out a sigh.

‘’Sir this ship is private…’’

He immediately trail off once you take out the badge, you don’t even need to say anything; a hard, cold look tells the words you need as the young man cold swat is almost visible in his entire body, he simply step aside, putting on a sudden strong stance with his shield and halberd, trying his best to look dignified at the sudden presence of an inquisitor.

‘’Right this way sir! Welcome to the Scarlet!’’

Thus your entry is unopposed and without any fuss as you walk the planks leading to the big ship, you don’t even bother gracing the soldiers with words quite yet, every one of them knows you aren’t to be messed with and don’t make the slightest efforts to come talk to you, the Inquisition has, of course, a history of pro-activity and it is always then that go asking, be it form a king, or a lowly servant.

Beside the now stiff soldiers walking with bravado, the ship look mostly deserted; the only reason for such a scenario is that the majority of the crew is probably in the camp, reason why soldiers of the Church are used as security in the first place, however there is an obvious set of stairs leading into the bowels of the ships, and another one to the very East.

Well your path is rather obvious.

You could shake down some soldiers, aim for the crew, or get to the captain.
>>
>>26015066
Shake down some of the crew. They might not know what's being smuggled but they might have an idea on some odd stuff that might be useful to know.

Muahahaha, looks like Inquisitors have a license to kill and that's making them very nervous.

The problem is that, since this is a smuggling ship someone is in on this. Tell the soldiers that by inquisitorial edict nobody is to be allowed to leave this ship until we say so, period. If even a stray splash is heard you are to investigate. If you think anyone did escape one of you pursues and another comes to get us.

Our very presence will set the smuggler into panic mode and he'll try and get away with his cargo. So give that order in a hush-hush manner no matter what we choose to do.

I'm betting a Scyllia or two are in need of senmetsu.

Speak to the crew in ones and twos.

Smile. That should unsettle them. An Inquisitor smiling. Tell them that no, there is nothing wrong, yet, but what would the inquisition be if there weren't any sudden inspections?

Of course, should there be any wrongdoing aboard this vessel, it would be in the interest of the crewmembers to come forward to speak with us, privately or otherwise, to avoid collective punishment. After all, for evil to succeed, good men need only standby and do nothing.

Finally, you put on your best face (meaning warface of course, you were trained as a Shieffer; you are absolutely convinced your family make better Inquisitors!) and gesture for the three soldiers patrolling the decks, the two woman and man obviously march toward you immediately and stop in a faux-proud stance, shield and halberd held tight and high as your entrance has, obviously, already filtered through the entire ship, or at least, through the soldiers.

‘’You three, I’d also like it if one of you could inform your friend of what I am about to ask of you’’

You pause, looking at each of the young soldiers, they actually look younger than you which is… something to say the least, and despite your storied life you aren’t really old.

‘’I’ll be investigating this ship; from this moment forth, this entire area is in lockdown and each of you are to investigated the slightest of sounds and occurrence, from a splash of water to the creak of woods, I want you to make absolutely certain nobody get in or out until I say so, are we clear on this?’’

They nod vigorously and you smile, patting one of them on the shoulder.

‘’Good, you make good soldiers, just don’t fail me’’

As much as you try to be, you just can’t keep the façade of an asshole; sure you can be authoritative and demand men to run at they’re doom but… being an asshole just isn’t in you.

Which is probably the reason why that, when you turn around to descend into the bowels of the ships, you hear one of the girls muttering ‘’He looks kind of friendly…’’

This ship was obviously meant to transport a good, large number of people, probably upward of one hundred if they wouldn’t mind being squeezed, right now the crew is numbered at around 15 to 20, many of them sleeping while the others are drinking quietly and playing games of dices, which is of course interrupted when they realize that you aren’t a regular, many ‘’who the fuck are you?’’ and angry ‘’Get the hell out’’ are waved off once you identify most of them, the vast majority are women as expected but you see a few big guys here and there, which are starting to walk in your direction.

Of course all of that stop once you take out that magic badge, all at once the eyes of the entire crews look as if they’d be coming out of their sockets but, your face break into a smile as, once more ,you wave and put the insignia back in your pocket.

‘’Fret not, gentlemen and good ladies; it is not my objective, hope or indeed, ambition to see anyone burned at the stakes… I wish to speak with most of you and hope that I could find you cooperative; we are all good men and women here.’’

The few that were sleeping are rudely awaken when the whisper of ‘’inquisitor on ship’’ fly into the entire place.

Now then, before you start asking, what kind of question do you wish to start with, along with your attitude?

We're going to be nice yet authoritative.

As for questions. Do you know someone who is a heretic, no guilt by association of course but hey it is our job to find them so do you know of any? (laugh a bit on that one, make them a little nervous)

Has anyone been acting strange, like, have they been spending a good amount of time in the bowels of the ship? How many men are aboard? What kind of things can we expect to find the the cargo hold? Did the food stores seem emptier than they should have during the journey? And of course the age old question of "have you seen any monsters or monster sympathizers"?

We are also looking them over really good. If it seems like they're lying or start sweating we turn up the authoritah while offering to show them mercy if they confess. We won't kill them or torture them, emphasis on them. Also, the warning of if we do find something and nobody turned out to be all that helpful then everyone is going to have a very, very, *very* bad day.

Start off informally, an attempt to get them at ease which will set them off.

"Now all of you must be unsettled. 'Why. Why an Inquisitor here? They don't appear unless something is wrong, yes?' That, is not exactly true. Our calling and tasks have us safeguard the souls of our charges, that they not be corrupted in the course of their holy work, be it small or large. Thus, it also falls upon us to be vigilant and watchful. Inspecting and examining those under our protection.

Today, this manifests as an inspection. I ask that you standby your stations as I go about my duties. Those who have done no wrong need fear no punishment and does who have... I need not say more."

As they're dispersing, add in a final comment, almost offhand.

"And in going about my duties, I will accepting confessionals to absolve you worthy souls of your transgressions. Should you have wish to do so. Find me, privately or otherwise."

As the whispering and uneasiness of the crew increase, you look around the group of near twenty individuals one by one and ponder your options, the uneasiness and fear is almost palpable, it is however, impossible to tell if it’s due to your presence or due to some form of lingering guilt and, as such, you decide to adopt a friendly disposition instead of pressing into the dread; the sudden whiplash could actually be just as beneficial…

‘’I understand why all of you are feeling so uneasy’’

You suddenly speak, remembering the days when you addressed men twice your age back home along with your uncle watching over you like a hawk for the slightest; a commander voice is by far his most precious tool, it is likely to be the same for an Inquisitor.

'Why. Why an Inquisitor here? They don't appear unless something is wrong, yes?'’

You speak with a slight mocking tone, your appeared easygoing and near natural relaxed tone and voice seem to confuse every single men and women there, however you don’t need any acknowledgement of your statement; the Inquisition reputation is most certainly not for show.

‘’That, is not exactly true. Our calling and tasks have us safeguard the souls of our charges, that they not be corrupted in the course of their holy work, be it small or large. Thus, it also falls upon us to be vigilant and watchful. Inspecting and examining those under our protection.’’

You made a large, dignified gesture toward each of them as you spoke, your hand flying in front of them as they start looking at one another, some form of relief actually blossoming amidst the group.

‘’Today, this manifests as an inspection. I ask that you stand by your stations as I go about my duties. Those who have done no wrong need fear no punishment and does who have... I need not say more."

An almost collective gulp travel in the entire group as they stand there, waiting for more, you actually need to motivate them by clapping your hands, adding a little ‘’dismissed’’ although, as they start going back to their business (albeit very awkwardly, you place in one last remark.

"And in going about my duties, I will be accepting confessionals to absolve you worthy souls of your transgressions. Should you have wish to do so. Find me, privately or otherwise, I am as worthy as any priest for such duty for the Inquisition was made by our great Faith itself’’

This is probably one of the biggest roles you ever took in your life, to say that everything you just said was a lie may… actually it’s true, but you had a pretty close relationship with the Inquisition in your past and know how they operate when you aren’t in the best of light, here, you start asking the obvious question, pulling aside one or two men and channeling the persona of your uncle as much as you can; Gismore was the perfect example of ‘’amiable authority’’ that you ever saw, you can only hope that his ghost feel honored by this help… Because you are certainly not too used to the boots of an inquisitor.

--

It probably took an hour to ask the same questions to this group, now you are outside on the deck and taking some fresh air as you mull over your information’s.

First, absolutely nobody came close to any monsters since they came to Zipangu, the captain told them that this job would be easy and so far, it was; they were employed as a civilian cargo ship for the war effort and… nothing more, it isn’t they’re place to ask question when the pay is good.

In that respect it’s a shame that the captain doesn’t seem to have a lieutenant… wait, is the proper term second mate? Bah you know nothing about navy!

As for anyone acting strange, nobody told you a damn thing but you suspect a rule of ‘’no snitching’’ is in effect, however the majority of the crew is out on the ground, reducing the effectiveness of your questioning but none of them seemed to like the prospect of tattling, which you can understand pretty well.

However, you efforts got you one very nice juicy bit of information’s.
The name of the young man you were talking to was Leo, a man of dark skin and heavy built, he asked you several time if ‘’the soul is real’’.

You didn’t have to lie to give his answer.

This was his confession.

‘’I-I… I don’t want to fry, go to hell…or be targeted by t-those monsters, I like who I am and respect and love the teaching of our church, I do! The betterment of oneself, to go beyond l-lust and… look I… I don’t wanna… captain tend to do a few deals under the table but nothing too bad! We never smuggled monsters, never smuggled drugs! We just tend to get some spices, or get a runaway couple away from their homes, you know… stuff like that, I dunno if it’s bad or not, but our cap’n aint no son of a bitch, I’m just… wondering if doing it is bad for my soul, y’know? We don’t harm anybody’’
But they broke the law, and that concerned young man told you this with utmost honesty, the rest were merely mirroring themselves in vagueness.

What do you make of this, Siegfried?

Leo, it would take much more than merely breaking some trades laws set by man to damn his soul.

Matters of men are governed by the laws and judgement of man. Those guilty will of course be punished, according to the laws of man. It would take a much greater act of sacrilege and wantom death and destruction to warrant such a fate.

Of course, what he asks is that the transgressors reflect on their actions and repent. That is the first step towards ensuring a place in the life henceafter. I can see that you are conflicted child. If it is as you said, that the laws flouted were minor, it is within my power to absolve you and the crew of your crimes. All I would require would be the remanding of the contraband into my possession."

You attempted to prod information out of him of course, but the success of your endeavor was unfortunately, rather mitigated by his position in the crew.

‘’ Leo, it would take much more than merely breaking some trades laws set by man to damn his soul.’’

This sentence light up his face, the man was probably older than you were but strongly believe in laws, enough to fear for his soul, you couldn’t’ help but respect him in some way, for a big, muscled guy he really wasn’t the kind of person ready to harm anyone’’

‘’Matters of men are governed by the laws and judgment of man. Those guilty will of course be punished, according to the laws of man. It would take a much greater act of sacrilege and wanton death and destruction to warrant such a fate.’’

You gestured in front of his face as you spoke, taking the Inquisitorial badge, the Eye of Truth sees all; it was the best way to make sure your words rang true, but in the end, that thing was just a magical trinket that…
Is most likely used to relay every sound in the area to Ahriman.

He nodded vigorously, you also quickly added that monsters are masters of charms, deceptions and illusions, asking if there were any new arrival on the crew, but there was absolutely nothing, either from the moment they set out from Central, to the two days they spent here unloading cargo, there was no new arrival on the ship and mister Leo has stayed aboard the entire time, soldiers always made him nervous.

‘’Dunno bout no contrabands this time…. But captain got a deal with some guy back in Central, that’s all I know, really, he paid us all to enjoy ourselves at the tavern and all’’

Thus, if there were any monstergirls… they’d probably be in the captain cabin.
What do you make of this, Siegfried? And what is your course of action?

Thank Leo and tell him to get on his knees. Bless him and 'accept and absolve him by wit of his confession'. That should save him from the crew's retribution. That he was only confessing his own transgressions.

Then go and find the captain.

Your blessing of the confessor was made with as much heart as you could pour, you didn’t want anything bad to happen to the guy and you made sure to bless every one of the crew as well, thanking them for the progress of your Holy work.

But now you have bigger fish to fry, namely, the captain who is down that eastern stairs, his cabin would be very easily noticeable and fair enough it was; amidst the barrels and crates a door to a big room stood out from the entire ship, especially the cramped crew quarters.

Of course, on the way there you made sure to get an update from the soldiers who assured you on the tomb of their ancestors that not even a gust of wind disturbed the night so far.

Thus, now you stood before the door, wondering if you should kick it in but, given your method so far, you got for a smoother approach by loudly knocking on the door, then opening it once you realize that it’s open, taking out the trinket as you do.

The room is… probably what one would expect from a captain cabin? A big, comfy bed with fancy furniture and rugs, a few alchemical lamp here and there for light with maps, notes and books laid out on the only table, there’s also a few swords and shield placed on rack here and there, each one from a different dominion of man; you identify one made by the blacksmith of your home, this guy got around.

Now for the captain, he looked rather old, still snoring in his bed despite your loud entrance, he kept a long, braided black beard while camouflaging his face in his hat, he was also in white underwear, sleeping outside of his bed sheet, a bottle of rum emptied on his lap…

This is one hell of a caricatured pirate captain, all he miss is a wooden leg and a wounded eye.

What do you do?
>>
>>26017726
Well it is our strong suit. Besides, people underestimate the power of diplomacy. Every party needs a good "face" in there as it were.

Also, when we speak to the captain we make it sound like we're reasonable. He may not even know he was smuggling monsters.

Any good underground courier knows one commandment "Don't ask, so you *can't* tell". You take package, or allow it to be loaded on without you seeing it, then you deliver it to the given place at the given time. Then you get the other half of the money. This way the worst that happens is one dead/arrested courier without really compromising the operation.

A quick lookover the room, quietly and enter focus to double check for anything lying about.

If we find something, grab it. Else, exit focus, wake up the captain. Nicely.
>>
>>26017866
When we do the magic focus thing, does it enhance our perception at all? Something like that?

Because before waking him up and interrogating, we should have a poke around first, using focus, to look for any of the tiniest discrepancies.
>>
>>26018079

It does, make it easier to identify magical source, which is something because the camp radiate TON of it and it filter to your position.
>>
>>26018079
It makes you like a psuedo-mentat actually. So it does increase our perception and is necessary for casting, but it also gives away your location.

Of course, will all the magic flying about in the camp our "signal" is quite muddled, so it won't really alert anyone here unless the good Captain is also a mage like ourselves.

Given the current predicament of the good captain, you take the opportunity to Focus and, as always, the renewed vigor, energy and concentration cause a near instantaneous addiction that you refuge with the power of your will; you are more than used to it by now and, slowly, you comb over the room without looking, closing your eyes to mentally block out the interference of the camps…

You find something a small, constant pulse coming from beneath the captain bed, whose snoring continue unabated until… right as you open your eyes, the man flip up his hat, his eyes a pair of dark brown nuts filled with enough conviction to rival a bonafide Inquisitor.

‘’Now now whatcha member of the good old Cloth doing in this here place? I wouldn’t mind if you were a pretty girl… but hey yer not, mind to tell me what’s going on good ser? Also, nice veins’’

"A minor precaution. It never hurts to be through, uncommon as attacks are.’’

You let go of your magical state and take a more formal stance, making sure the insignia in your palm is well within view, your remarks however, cause a guffaw in the captain.

‘’Harm an Inquisitor in the middle of the crusaders camp? Mufefe! Ya got good humor there boy’’

The man sit as he calm his laugh, fiddling with his big hat on one hand, while his other roll his braided beard in what you can only guess to be some kind of nervous tick.

He also make no gesture to reach for his clothes; he’s comfortable in his underwear.

‘’Though it IS uncommon to be feigning sleep infront of an Inquisitor."

The captain wave, dismissing your remark without a second glance as his small, piercing eyes shoulders yours without problem, this guy… might be a cut above the crew.

‘’I’m eccentric, now then, why d’ya come here good sir? Oh yeah, name’s Franco by the way, real name is long so eh, this’ll do’’

A direct approach looks to be the best here, Mister Franco may not look like he’s taking you seriously but you are convinced of the contrary, his type is rare, the kind of people that intentionally look silly and incompetent when they are anything but.

‘’I know you're smuggling contraband’’

‘’Aint got shit under me bed’’

‘’I felt magic, faint, but it’s there’’

Yet the vision of an Inquisitor doesn’t seem to deter him, but he changed his tune pretty fast as he stop twiddling with his face to slap his thighs.

‘’Course it is, it’s one of dem artifact my client wanted me to pick, aint no contraband but fuck, if you think it’s back I’ll give it to ya, no need to move my damn thing.’’

"Well this IS an inspection. I'd ask to have a look at it to ascertain its legality."

The bearded man scowl, grimacing in many interesting way as he glare, then stop looking, then glare back, sigh, replace his hat… He doesn’t look nervous, perhaps annoyed, you aren’t sure what he’s is trying to pull but, finally, the good captain let out a deep sigh.

‘’Ooy… fine fine..’’

The man get up with a concert of grunts, his body bearing many old scars that convince you that the many weapons on display in this cabin aren’t for show; he’s got the allure and aura of a warrior and, slowly, he grab his bed to pull it forward a good deal, moving the heavy wood with a good deal of efforts while you stand there because… Inquisitor don’t do manual labors, of course.

Next, the captain put his hat on the bed as you look at the perfectly even floor, the man take a dagger out of one of the closest display and start fiddling around on the floor, touching several place then finally what he need, then slide his hand and knife for a good portion of the floor and… the weapon sink, and finally with enough fiddling, the captain take out a piece of floor to reveal a black box, filling around three quarters of the space.

‘’Look, good Inquisitor, I like to believe in the good of mankind and all…’’

Franco voice and dialect have suddenly changed, now the half-naked man eyes you seriously as he gently put the box on the bed, you can already feel the magic inside, it’s a simply constant pulse akin to the medallion.

Finally, he open the box to reveal the prize inside.

Two big eggs lie peacefully against several piece of silks, a magical, alchemical warmer keeping both precious object alive and comfortable; the shell is a beautiful white free of imperfection and you suddenly find your throat very, very dry.

‘’Fertilized harpy eggs, few months to be sure, pretty heavy’’

The man look back to you with extreme seriousness, no weakness to be found in the captain gaze, nor lies or fear.

‘’I’ve seen corrupted men , women and monsters, ya know, been dodging dem monstrous gals when you were still suckling the teets of your mom and I can tell ya this; those aint dirty to be sure’’

Your heartbeat quicken, your lisps feels dry, and you blink several times as you look at the big eggs.

‘’So yeah there’s my smuggling, was supposed to bring em back to Central but fuck that, it aint too bad now is it?’’

The good captain voice was obviously on edge, sad yet hopeful, his old wizened gaze searching your eyes and finding that you were not absent of emotions; you can’t really help yourself in this case, those eggs…

We loudly proclaim the find of the eggs to the crew. We praise them for the compassion and heart, that they put themselves at risk to save these unborn lives.

However orders are orders and they must be followed. The eggs will be taken into church custody until further orders as to their disposition arrive. The crew and captain are also pardoned for their crimes of compassion.

Then have soldiers bring them IN OPEN VIEW back to the main church tents.

Let the news spread, that unpolluted fertilised eggs were captured and in the hands of the church. Let the lay fighting man and woman know that these unborn children are at risk of being put to death.

Let it spread and forment. With luck, news will reach ears higher than Arihman and instructions to spare the eggs will arrive soon. Until then, stall for time.
>>
Time to squish some babies, I guess. No need to take unnecessary risks.
>>
>>26020018

Actually the eggs themselves are not magical, its the alchemical warmer that actually is
>>
>>26020069
Is there anything special about them? If so we can simply take them into custody and hand them over the the R&D division. After all, at least being a guinea pig is better than dying (in some cases).

We may be a butcher but we aren't stupid. Any strange phenomena are to be studied to further the knowledge of man.

Write a note to the captain, tell him to get some chickens and chicken eggs, smash the chicken eggs very audibly while saying something about how unsanctioned monsters can't be allowed?
We take the remains of the chicken eggs and the alchemical warmer, and the captain uses the chickens to keep the harpy eggs warm.

>>26020138
What about the nature of their procurement? They may seem uninteresting, but really they are. If we get him to cook up a good enough story then we may still have the R&D excuse.

Then having siggy create stand in eggs and publicly destroy them on the deck might suffice.

Oh course, siggy and the captain must have a good 'arguement' over the disposition of the eggs. He seems smart so he should be able to play along.

Write a quick note for him to prolong the arguement and we can detail a plan to him.

We destroy the false eggs with ice and confiscate the warmer. He'll have to warm them with something else but now they won't be traceable.
>>
>>26020334
How much does the church know about each monster species scientifically? If it's not much then R&D still works.

We've become a smarter butcher, one that thinks ahead. Knowledge is power. And the reason we went non-lethal back in the forest? We're trying to burn out their healers. Once the healers burn out those who may have been saved will be killed. Modern Military doctrine still makes sense in a fantasy setting where the heals are easy but limited. Ganking them is of course the superior option but hey, the monsters don't got many of em' so they stay way the fuck back.

If Siggy is good, really, really good, he can make a pretty accurate simulacrum. The question is, is he good enough because we're talking art here.

Guys I got it! This utterly rides on the captain being sharp as all fuck but I got it. Gesture to him that he needs to quietly get us some writing materials. We quietly write down the plan, make the eggs, then go full "butcher" mode...

"I see, well then, I want hold these eggs. Good. Now raise them over your head. Don't grip them like that now, make it like a pedestal up there. You wouldn't want them to fall on the ground would you? Good, like that."

Now we would need him to act like he knows what we're about to do and have him make a heartfelt plea as we surround the eggs with a very generous amount of Ice Spikes. Then we fucking GIB the damn (fake) things completely.

"Thank you, the filthy things don't deserve the courtesy of the burial you were probably going to give them so I fixed that problem for you. I'm sparring you, this time, only because we literally need every male we can get. Consider this little 'bath' to be your punishment. I highly recommend you go take one now and clean up this mess. And if I see you doing anything like this again, I will burn you at the steak, personally."

Ahriman would approve of this, good thing he can't see what we did there. And those moments of silence?

"I was thinking of how exactly I should destroy them. Killing is a kind of an art form for me."

We are the butcher after all, gotta a reputation to maintain.

Aw. I'll miss seeing your input, Puch.
>>
>>26021557
So long as he's sharp I don't see that plan failing as it's only us and him. We're also confiscating the warmer, he doesn't need it anymore and this little incident should teach him a lesson. Magic of this kind is not conductive to smuggling.

Hopefully he knows how to keep them nice and toasty without it. Some thick wool blankets warmed over a fire or with his own body heat ought do nicely.
>>
>>26021520
Your insights will be missed.

I think we'll need to fine-tune the plan next session.
And probably argue against the people that will want to just smash the eggs.
>>
>>26022035
I think I tuned it pretty good. One can write pretty quietly if you're trying to do so (plus there are ambient noises within the ship, having the captain fidget a bit would increase them and hey, it's an Inquisitor and you've just been outed as a heretic. If you're not fidgeting, trembling, and sweating balls you're not normal). and I had a pretty airtight explanation if he asked about those moments of near silence. We were contacted because of our reputation, might as well leverage it for all it's worth.

Again, the fact that it utterly rides on the Captain being sharp as a tack and not fucking up is its only real flaw, our end is pretty much covered.

Now if Ahriman could "See" as well as "Hear" we'd have exactly no fucking way to not senmetsu the Harpy babies.

There's one fundamental flaw with this plan. Ahriman will expect Siegfried to have this attitude and manner of speaking from now on. Which means if we're given assignments by him and are around agents of his, we have to act like the way we did now. Which means potentially being brutal to monsters if we're sent on a mission. A more laid back attitude might be better in some ways. Just tossing the eggs in the water and walking away would be better.

It might be worthwhile trying to get the eggs into the bureaucratic system, at least delay Ahriman until we can take them when we leave then.

Cold eggs=Dead harpies. Besides, we have a reputation. A reputation he expects us to make good on if he's going to start trusting us.

Also do remember that there never is or was any way to avoid killing monstergirls with an inquisitor looking over your shoulder. If you don't kill the wretches then you must feel sympathy for them. Liking monstergirls is heresy. Do you know what happens to heretics? They burn.

We may be able to get away with not killing a few based upon certain logical arguments. A heavily injured girl burdens the healers, they don't got as many as we do so a strategy of life-threatening injury may achieve a higher body count in the end.

Also, one should leave a survivor or two from any engagement. So they can return and tell the tale of how they were utterly demolished, lowering enemy morale.

Read "The Art of War", Sun Tsu said troop morale was paramount for good reason. Any attack on it is thus a very viable and encouraged strategy.

Its missing out the ultimate goal for the short term.

Our final mission here is to assassinate Arhiman and escape from the camp.

The secondary is to minimise casualties.

In order to make sure we siddle up to his gut and stick a knife where it hurts, we need to gain his trust. If it means acting like an utter monster, then we do so. The only reason we're considering saving these eggs is because the opportunity is there to do so and get away with it.

How do we maximize this poor, heretical saps suffering as we kill them because, while we are sparing him because he is male (and we really can't afford to lose anymore of them) he needs a punishment, something that will keep him from ever considering doing this again.
