"The untested grow weak.
The weak perish.
Those unwilling to change, fade into history."

Welcome back, children!

You are the Rozoolliim, an insectoid race ever-faithful to your God-Queen, Rozooll.

Brief Recap/Info:

The attack force from Kaalun arrived! However, they weren ill-prepared, not realizing that the Rozoolliim were sentient.
Their force was dispatched after a day, with the survivors sacrificed to the God-Eater.
Afterward, she reported a strange, but familiar feeling, which could only mean...
~
Preparation for construction of "The Spire" began. This basically just meant scouting out a spot.
~
Your Oasis farmland was damaged by the sandstorm Rozooll conjured. Food production is diminished, to an extent.
~
Medinh and his acolytes are still being held in the Arena constructed.

>Cont.
>>
>>26018649

With preparations for a counter-attack/possible raid on Kaalun complete. A squad roster can be assembled, or an average unit count can/will be assembled by myself. They will depart next turn.

Go ahead and send all the nomads and tunnellers, we can just hatch more in the unlikely event they all perish.

Leave five warriors behind just in case.

Workers repair the damaged farm.

Let's get this started.
>>
>>26018721
I think that at the first oppertuinity we have, we should have the entire damn colony worship us at once
>>
>>26018887

All Nomads and Tunnelers?
Just a reminder, the interrogated guard stated that there ARE a couple dozen guards still left in Kaalun.
>>
>>26018923
Yes, that would make an excellent victory celebration, I think.
>>
>>26018721
first do this >>26018923, then do this, >>26018887

but like this, send 25 warrior, 10 scouts, and 16 tunnelers go within seeing distance of city and start a tunnel into the city when we get close to finishing then we stop to bring in 7 more warriors.
>>
>>26018721
We set out to conquer the city the guards came from
>>
>>26018721
Hey i'm new to the swarm but i read all of the archives i could 2-5 and am hoping to be apart of this one
>>
>>26018974
We'll have the element of surprise, and I expect the tunnellers to act more as sappers (tunnelling away the supports of fortifications and whatnot) and the nomads to be our pack rats for the inevitable loot.

The warriors in my mind will see the most action, and likely the most losses.

Though leaving a handful behind just in case won't hinder my nefarious plotting at all.
>>
>>26018721
I think that we can somewhat trust Medinh and his disciples i say we send him a dozen warriors and a dozen Workers to go and convert the colony and give the workers and warriors orders to kill Medinh if he betrays us id say he is our best hope at converting them.
>>
>>26018721

The next day, a legion of 25 Warriors, 10 Scavengers, as well as all the Tunnelers (21) and Nomads (16) depart for Kaalun.
10 Warriors are left behind with the rest of the Colony, to watch over the Queen, the Princess, and the others.

After a few days, the legion arrives at Kaalun. They are close enough to see the gates, but cannot see any guards due to the hazy heat of day.
Options:

>A). Tunnel beneath the wall. Risky in that it will take longer and the exit point is relatively unknown.
>B). Storm the gates. The gates aren't particularly large or well fortified, on this side at least. The gates could come down with a large enough attack force. Less subtle, bigger possibility for casualties.
>C. Write-In.
>>
>>26019150
Or, we could try to wipe out the village.
They attacked us first, after all.

Though the battle may be a bit closer, surprise is the only advantage we really have. That, and being terrifying.

But imagine the loot! We may even steal a few spellbooks for Medinh to decipher for Rozooll!
>>
>>26019316
>A
>>
>>26019316
If the walls aren't made of steel can we find a spot to tunnel through?
>>
>>26019316
A
but have a two warriors guard the tunnel if are attack we dig up and fight
>>
>>26019316
I'm going to have to say tunnel.

I'm imagining some guy sitting in his house, maybe sipping some tea and reading a newspaper, when our legion of giant ant warriors bursts through his floor and pour out of his house to deal with the guards.

Ought we roll for exit point or some-such battle modifier?

Will a 100 make the most akward morning ever a reality?
>>
>>26019371
The walls do seem to be made of a sturdy, but rather adobe-like rock. Tunneling is possible, but any guards will definitely see the 72 chittering bugs outside their door.

>>26019072
Welcome, child.
>>
>>26019331
Okay fine but if we have too kill them all i say take plenty of prisoners so our queen can test her mind melding powers and how far they can go perhaps with practice we can rewrite or completely look though someones memories.
>>
>>26019426
Thanks :D

And in that case i agree with >>26019421
but still say take prisoners so our queen can test her mind molding powers.
>>
>>26019426
New reader here, this thread looks good, OP. Better than a lot of civ quests lately, too. Reading archives now.
>>
>>26019489
Prisoners would be a great idea, plus, we could use THEM as pack mules too, increasing our loot haul.
>>
>>26019316
Sorry I'm late, had super cereal RL stuff to deal with, which may crop up again during this, so please excuse any absences.
That out of the way, I vote A, helps add to the fear factor too, monstrous bugs just bursting out of the ground, will help all to fear the might of the Rozoolliim.
>>
>>26019536
We should take as many of the none fighter humans as possible and make them carry hordes of loot and charge them through the desert with our goodies i wish we had our cultist their to give the humans orders
>>
if this was already taken tell me but i'm not going to be the only Anonymous

this is me>>26019419 but i second this
>>26019441
>>
>>26019316

The Tunnelers start digging a hole for the chittering legion to sneak through. After a greater part of the day, the whole Chittering Legion is able to squeeze in, 2 at a time. 2 Warriors are left at the entrance, just in case trouble arises. Estimates say that the Tunnelers haven't passed the wall yet. This may be another day...maybe more.
~
MEANWHILE, back at Greenhome...

Rozooll can vaguely sense what's going on, but the distance only assures her that they reached the city.
With a much diminished staff, we'll be a bit more limited in our option-count.

Workers go to the Oasis above to mend the damages caused to the valuable tracts of land.
Repairs on this will be complete in 2 turns. (until then, farming is at 50% efficiency).
(+4.6 Units of food)
~
The Curious Ones, eager to help in getting efficiency back to optimal conditions, focus their efforts to improve farming operations. More on this later...
~
After the events of the last couple days, Queen Rozooll finally summons her daughter from her quarters. Elated, she inspects her to make sure she's alright. She's already bigger than even the oldest Warriors, thanks to the Queen's genetics. Still being an adolescent, even by insect standards, she's incapable of breeding. To both monarch's delights, the Hive already respects her position, as she tries ordering around a few unfortunate Workers to do menial and meaningless tasks.

The Tunnelers shuffle out of their burrow and with adequate stealth. The only sounds heard is the quick 'clik-clik' of their claws on the pavement, then a quiet gurgle, as the guard's throat is cut.
The rest of the street remains empty...for now.

Looking around, the legion can see three points:

>A). A large, impressive-looking structure at the highest point in the city. Odds are, this is where their 'Queen' must be. But that also probably means more resistance. Also farther, with higher chance to be seen by patrols.
>B). A smaller, but fortified structure towards the front gate. If there are any guards on lookout, this would be the quickest way to reach them. Shorter distance, but if seen, the whole city can be alerted by the bells set up along the wall.
>C). A marketplace down the opposite street. Shops with goods litter the avenue. Odds are, the only defenses put up are the occasional guard patrol and/or whatever the civilians decide to defend themselves with...if anything at all.

Deciding that with stealth on your side, it's best to keep it that way. A few Tunnelers lead their brothers through a few twisted alleyways, until coming upon the structure's side. There are two guards on the top of the structure overlooking the street and city. Luckily at this angle, the legion of insects aren't easily noticeable...but that could change quick.

>A). A few Warriors have bows commandeered from the battle a few days previous. However, they're not well trained in it. At all.
>B). Through the wall! Tunnelers can probably get through the wall. Easier than breaking down the door. Quiet, but more time-consuming. This means guards could potentially spot the entire legion.

The Tunnelers quickly tear through the wall. A little noise alerts one of the guards, but by the time he stoops to look over the ledge, it's too late:
He disappears, followed by two muffled gurgles.
The Tunnelers appear to have found the staircase to the roof and the top of the wall.

There are a few more guards along the wall, coming this way, probably on their return-trip from patrols.

QUICK DECISION (first posts declares action)

>A). Cheese it! Run down the alleyways. No time to dispose of the bodies!
>B). Charge 'em. They're far enough from the bells to not alert the WHOLE city. But if they make a lot of noise, people close by may know.

Unsure of how to deal with the situation, the Tunnelers leap off of the roof and usher the rest of the legion away.
The guards come upon the two others, dead at their posts. With a startled cry, they ring the bells at the gate and after a few minutes, a small handful of guards rushes from the large structure at the top of the hill, past the Rozoolliim, not bothering to look down the alleyways. Maybe this could play to your advantage...

>A). Rush for the big structure. There must be less resistance there now that guards are snooping about the gate, looking for a cut-throat.
>B). Ambush the guards at the gate. They're expecting one, maybe two perpetrators. Not a small legion of chittering zealots. This will be louder, but will effectively hinder any reinforcement attempts in the future. This totally makes sense!

It starts low, barely a vibration, until it becomes cacophonous tremors. Something has breached The Tunnel entrance!
Looming in the central chamber of the Hive towers the biggest Tunnel Worm seen so far!

>A). Have the Warriors engage it! This will prevent it from moving out of the central chamber, so long as the Warriors hold out.

It thrashes wildly, sending a Warrior flying. It hits the wall with a revolting 'crunch', killing it.
9 Warriors remain.
Ushering Mazooll behind her, the Queen draws herself to her full, formidable height and focuses her thoughts to the creature.
The Tunnel Worm's mind is frenzied and is putting up a struggle to being controlled.

DISREGARDING MY INADVERTENT ROLL:

>>26022015
>>26022085

The Tunnel Worm sways its head slowly, until it stops, staring (despite its seeming lack of eyes) at Queen Rozooll.
"Welcome to the family", she says, despite knowing that no response could come from this feral creature. She senses that this creature must be the 'Queen' of the Tunnel Worms. Domination over this one could potentially mean domination over the other Tunnel Worms in the vicinity. Or at the very least domination over one very large and dangerous Worm.

What's to do with the Queen's newest pet?

>A). Keep it. Subdued as it is, it's no immediate threat. Though, should something ever go horribly awry, it could be a potential danger. However, this is unlikely.
>B). Devour it. This Queen's genetics are even stronger the the meager worker-class worm eaten weeks ago.

>>26022293

Not necessarily. In absence of a defined Queen, the Tunnel Worms would probably either have their heir step up, or potentially go rogue. Sorta hard to tell.
Devouring will likely improve the genetics of Tunnelers, but, again, means you won't have a pet Queen Worm.

>>26022235

Almost going against instinct, the Queen decides against devouring the great Worm before her. Its of much greater use elsewhere...
A beast this huge will need an area to reside.
[New Creature Acquired: Queen Worm!]
~
Deciding that their loyalty has been proven, for now, the Queen releases Medinh and his acolytes, allowing them outside of the Arena, on the condition that they immediately take up worship of her. Medinh and his disciples thank Rozooll for her trust and generosity, promising that their faith never has, and never will, falter.
~
In the meantime, options for the Hive may continue:
The Queen is tired from subduing the Queen Worm, so birthing and magical study are barred this turn.

With the Tunnelers absent, the Queen's first order to her new pet is to dig itself a brooding area on the opposite end of the hive. This should be done by the next turn...
~
Harvest (+5 Units of food)
Work on repairs to the farm above have been completed! Farm efficiency is back to its former level.
~
The acolytes worship their new god. Their methods seem a bit more...organized than the Rozoolliim, with incense, forming circles, and other such strangeness. However, this has great effect on the Queen and she already feels her strength returning...
~
The Curious Ones, very eager to observe and study Tunnel Worms alive and up close observe the Queen as it burrows her new home.
~
The Queen and Medinh finally talk, at least on less hostile and suspicious terms. She asks about his home, his former life, everything he knows about human technology.
"I was a former priest of Aklon, a small-God, not unlike the one you devoured. In the disturbance that that caused, I realized that men have prayed to invisible hands of fate their whole lives. When I realized that a true, tangible god lay out here somewhere, I gathered my like-minded disciples and...here we are."
That's all he has to talk about for now, but maybe there's more...but that could come another day.
~
As Medinh departs the chamber, a Worker scrambles in. He says that a creature is in the Oasis above! He says it doesn't look quite like a human...

The Chittering Legion rushes up the steps, towards the large, decorated building at the top.
They stop before a large door, left ajar by the guards that exited it only moments before. They fling it open and charge inside, where a small host of soldiers, not expecting such a large hostile force, quickly pick up their weapons and steel themselves for battle!

The guards charge towards the door, hoping to limit their numbers in the door's threshold. However, it's too much and they're quickly overwhelmed. However, before they fall, they manage to cut down 3 Warriors and 5 Tunnelers.
~
The building is quite decorative. There appears to be a large room full of books in a room to the left, a long hallway to the right, and a large metal door straight ahead.
Figuring that the door and books can wait,
they set down the hall. They round the corner when a fireball takes out a Tunneler that was leading the way!
There appears to be no cover down this hall, so the Rozoolliim stay by the corner.
Options:

>A). Charge 'em. Could result in many casualties, but they can't take you all! FEEL THE FURY OF THE SWARM!

Don't worry. In most direct combat situations, I average out the rolls. Also, if anybody tries to sneak re-rolls in there, it has just as much a chance to hinder as it does to help.
Also, I like to think it better represents the idea that "There's no 'I' in 'army'."

Fearing that the time invested into alternate paths would allow for reinforcements to be called, the Chittering Legion charge down the hallway. Fireballs, arrows, and bolts stream by the Swarm. Hitting some brothers, missing others. The relatively unarmed attackers fall easily, once engaged in melee combat, but the charge took down 5 Tunnelers and 4 Warriors.
~
Cowering in the corner of the room hunches a man, decorated in fine robes and shiny objects. Clearly this is their 'Queen'. Seeing the swarm draw close on him, he falls on his knees, begging for mercy.

After a few moments, it seems that no word was able to leave the building about your invasion, yet. The only guards left in the city must be the ones down below, investigating a 'murder'. Deciding to finish this raid here and now, the Rozoollim pour from the building, finding the remaining defenses near the gate. They see the bugs come around the corner and ready themselves to fight!
Options:

>A). Kill them, Rozoolliim. Kill them all.

so wait...why not just occupy the city guys? We killed a shit ton of guards and just a few are left right? the civilians havent reacted have they? Slaughter all the fighters and enslave the village over time with developing mind control powers to increase cult size and gain knowledge.

The 'Queen' is thrust towards the front of the line. He says something frantically and after a moment's hesitation, the guards drop their weapons.

The mass of insects uses this weakness to their advantage, swarming them with almost no resistance. They're cut down in seconds, the 'Queen' looking at the Rozoolliim with equal amounts of fear and disdain.
By this point, people are well aware. Seeing dead bodies in the street sends a few screams from buildings, but otherwise, it stays quiet.
With the last of the guards dead, Kaalun has fallen!
(Total casualties: 11 Tunnelers, 7 Warriors)

The remaining Rozoolliim round up the remaining citizens. The 'Queen' seems to speak to them and they listen. They don't revolt at all, so he must have told them to comply with the legion. Scavengers set out to find valuables to bring back to the Hive...

We gotta negotiate with the royal and we're not gonna get our divine queen into human territory so we bring the human to us instead. besides 15+ warriors are not gonna occupy anything
>>
Rolled 14

>>26024219
we still need to bring the Humans queen and what loot we have to the Glorious god-queen and we could always leave a few warriors and a burrower to make sure nobody leaves the city to get help and then when our war party gets home we could ask the queen to conjure a sandstorm on the village to ensure nobody leaves and have the burrower make a nice little hold for the warriors to wait it out in while we send a occupying force
>>
even better guys take the guy back to the hive and mind control him and let him convert the city after learning anything he knows.
>>
Guys lets not let this city go to waste.

We should make our follower the head of church of this city and show the human some compassion such as letting us guard the city and such. This'll bring trade and technology more easily to our hive and we'll get a steady stream of equipment and such. Eventually the head of church would indoctrinate the entire city

not if we get them to actually believe our queen is a divine being. It'll be slow but if we start strong arming the people and eating them they'll rebel, escape and plot against us. If they have no reason to fight us because we aren't threatening their families or livelihood then this city could be a profitable city for us insects. We can thrive off of this city if we play our cards right.
>>
>>26024296
We have just finished slaughtering their husbands, brothers, fathers, cousins and, friends how much goodwill is going to make up for that? Unless we can expose them to the Mind molding embrace of the queen these people wont truly accept us not in their heart of hearts or in the back of their minds they will always remember what we have done and even if most of the populace "converts" there will be those that escape to seek the aid of militant cities for liberation from an Insect horde.
>>
>>26024270
Which is exactly why we need a human 'face' to the world. They do the trading for us, we dodge those issues.

pretty much the decision seems to be this. Murder fucking everything in the town and take the people with tech knowledge and shit back to mind rape and just be fucking rape swarm or we are cultist zealot mind control bugs.

After a long night, the citizens of Kaalun have the most valuable assets ready to make the trek back to Greenhome. With only a couple dozen citizens to keep track of, the remnants of the Chittering Legion should have no fear of revolt while returning home.

The...thing in the Oasis is brought before Queen Rozooll.

We need one we can trust and our cultist is too valuable as someone who could increase the effectiveness of our worship in the hive i say we take back the slaves(not the entire populace just what we can manage) and the king to the city do a introduction to the queen see if the king converts test if he has truly converted if not test mind mold on less important slaves then mold his mind to our liking either way have him return as our herald with one of our cultists with him try to have the War band tell the king that he WILL return and then have him say it to calm the populace.
>>
>>26024430
Question the blind man. What has brought him here to our home?
>>
>>26024364
Though we killed their husbands, brothers, fathers, cousins and, friends those families must have knew that being a city guard and soldier does not mean its going be A okay during battles and war. They knew and prepared for those men to be killed, soldiers are meant to be used to kill or be killed. They know what those men signed up for. The problem would be is if we start mass slaughtering them just for the heck of it. Soldiers are meant to die but traders and craftsman aren't supposed to be killed. We threaten them with total destruction and like a cornered animal they will fight back. But give a cornered animal food and mend their wounds and it'll be loyal to us.

With Medinh present, Rozooll adressing him mentally.

"Medinh," she says. "Do you know who this creature is?"

"I can't say I do," he says, staring hard at the figure standing silently in front of the Queen. "Elves aren't a common site around this part of the world. And a blind one is only more perplexing..."

Satisfied with this preliminary information, Rozooll turns her attention to the elf:

"Tell me, little elf, what brings you to my Oasis? Where do you hail from?"

He grins, look up at Rozooll, as if he really could see her.

"I'm a wanderer, miss...?"

"I am Rozooll, God-Eater and Mistress of the Sands. And you are?"

"Ronin, Miss Rozooll. Ronin the Blind. I'm a wanderer, plain and simple. And you, you are an Insect. No disrespect. But you guys haven't been around in a good...500, 600 years. I haven't seen one of you guys since I was a kid. If you'll pardon my verbiage." he says, as he lightly adjusts the blindfold covering his eyes.
"I was quite a spell-slinger way back when. But, since I lost my eyes, I'm a slave to whatever Aetheric currents send me adrift. I can't honestly say what's driven me here. Or why."

Though not satisfied with the answer, it seems to be the truth. What should be done with the elf? He doesn't seem to regard the Queen with the same respect that most afford her, but he could be a valuable asset.

>A). Extend an invitation to him. The desert is harsh, this could be a new home to him. Make use of whatever he has to offer.
>B). Eat him. He's dead weight and maybe some Elf genetics could come in handy...
>C). Set him loose. He's a wanderer. Let him go back to meandering about.

>>

Im pretty sure when our human cultists worshipped it was more effective than normal insect worship so we really should enslave the race it could really just be utter mind rape slavery where they do nothing but worship and live to be sacraficed. utter mind rape control would probably be easier to do than to do a fine tune control keeping emotions and such in check.
>>
>>26024751
Might be a good quick boost but long term worship would provide greater returns in the long run
>>
>>26024731
Not saying we're not evil but evilness would need to have a goal. We feast on our enemies and show no mercy to them but the craftsman and such would be left alone. We would curd their numbers just a tiny very tiny amount through genetic experimentation from secretly kidnapped children and people. This would on the long run allow our species to be dominant while their numbers become smaller every generation. In due time every species under our rule would die off within maybe a couple generation if we're good at it.

In the end we become the sole inheritors of the world

Finding him to be a potentially invaluable asset, Rozooll extends to him an offer to live among the Rozooliim.

If you're worried about times and getting people on for the thread, we could set up some sort of alert system that people can check, maybe a Steam Group or like a twitter account or something.

Just an idea.

I dont know about most people, but Steam for me is up most of the time. With a steam group you can set up things like announcements which make the announcement message appear in the bottom right of everyone in the group's screen.

I think it's a fun ride. I have no true opinions on how things are handled, other than it's super fun to write all this out. And it elates me that people can look past my garbage exposition and still have fun.
Now when people say that this is the best Civ on right now, I gotta disagree...
Troll Civ is downright fun. And it's the precursor to these. (Hence the MKII in the posts) Most days it's running before Insect Civ, but also, if you guys haven't, check out Lizardmen Civ. It's new, but the OP is new, just like me, but already pro. I've already (perhaps noticeably) adapted (stolen) some of the things he was doing.
>>
>>26025182
I was actually in the lizard man civ for a little while near the middle to the end bit and i am planning on joining the troll one when i get the chance too. Anyway night and thanks for a fun evening/morning lol
>>
I made a Steam group, which can be found here:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Rozoolliim
...and a Twitter (which I have no clue how to use) here:
https://twitter.com/InsCivQuest
...I'll try and update when I'm doing stuff with these, but I might have to fool around with them in the meantime.

I'm headin' out. See you guys next time!
>>
>>26025182
Lizardmen Civ is awesome, I play under the name Marshwalker or Marshstrider in those threads. I'm a bit nervous thqt the OPs internet situation will mean that updates are infrequent, though.

On the bright side, I think Children of the Mountain updates today, so I can't wait!
