Momo's round goes high, impacting on a building behind Black Jack- but it wasn't exactly a far miss- She'd probably fired before the 38(t) had completely stopped. Either way, at this distance she'd probably have you on the second shot. Well, assuming Rose's training had stuck.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing "Black Jack" and this his how tankers play hide and seek- with abandoned towns and paint shells.

You hit the commander's override, bringing the turret around. "Bringing you on target, Rose." You call down as the turret swings to the left. While the M26's turret rotation wasn't slow, you weren't going to be on target before she got another shot. Normally this wouldn't be a problem since the 38(t)'s 37mm would have trouble piercing Black Jack's relatively thin side armor.

But these are paint rounds- she doesn't have to penetrate to freeze your tank.

She already got that one shot out of her system. By now I expect that their turret is more or less pointing at us, and if we try to ram Momo would have to bend spacetime in order to get the shell to leave the barrel in a 90 degree angle in order to miss.

You want the kill, but it's apparent that you don't have enough time to swing your tank's turret onto the 38(t) so Rose can finish it. "Richard, move forward! Full speed!" Black Jack immediately lurches forward as Richard puts the Pershing in gear. You keep moving turning the turret, but eventually the 38(t) disappears from view.

You don't like passing up a kill, but a ten minute freeze would give them all the time in the world to set up the next ambush. You need to push in, stay mobile and, most importantly, stay aggressive- stopping to deal with the 38(t) would bog you down and rob you of the tactical momentum you'll need to take on the rest of the team.

You continue rotating the turret and point it to the rear of the tank- if the 38(t) did try to sneak around for a rear attack, it would get a nasty surprise. "Alright, Richard, slow it down a bit." Now that the ambush was behind you, it was time to slow down a bit- keep moving forward but don't rush it.

This was still a matter of actually taking down five tanks before you can be taken down yourself- a tall order in an urban environment like this.

>Get aggressive- you can afford a freeze if you can take one of them with you.
>Maneuver around them- come at them from an unexpected angle and get the drop on them.

Those fucking T-80U's.

I have had so many of my games wrecked by people deploying 1 or 2 of them right at the start while I am still deploying infantry and light AT vehicles to secure points quickly.

The one time I succeeded I was playing a French deck and decided I would get a Super Etendard out to see if I could snipe an early command vehicle.

My opponent ran his early T80-U into a town where I was deploying my millans and RIMa. They scored a few quick hits on it but it then proceeded to wreck them. I called in the SE and popped it wide open because the fucker did not deploy any Air Superiority and his AA was miles behind.

If Miho's in the city, she's almost certainly set up an effective ambush among the other crews, but ambushes often required the willing participation of their victims, and knowing that it was going to be there gave you an advantage all your own. "Richard, take this right!" You call into the intercom.

"Where we going?" He responds as he rolls the tank into the narrow side-street. This was the risky part- the main street you'd been on was the only road wide enough to easily maneuver a tank as big as Black Jack- Miho'd know that and would likely set her ambush up along it accordingly. The problem was that this side road was so narrow that you wouldn't be able to turn your turret more than thirty-degrees to either side.

"Dynamic entry, Richard." You say simply. "Take a left here."

Now you were travelling down an even narrower back alley that ran parallel to the main road. A few more cross-streets and you're rewarded when you catch a glimpse of the Lee, hulled down in the remains of a house- the house actually covering the majority of the Lee- with a regular round you'd just fire through it but you aren't sure if the paint rounds are capable of piercing the brick and mortar wall effectively.

"Target: M3 Lee. Concealed position." You say, starting to swing the turret over. "Bringing you on target, Rose. Can you hit it?" You say as the turret swings into position.

"Depends on whether these rounds will get through those walls..." She replies, monotone voice showing that he's already got her mind on the shot.

"You might get a shot on the-" You start to say, hoping to give her some direction.

"Quiet!" She hisses and you hush up. There's a moment of complete calm, the silence only broken by the engine idling behind the turret. "Firing."

The tank rocks as the T54 cannon fires, the paint round exploding against the wall, which subsequently tilts and falls over the M3 Lee, its structure catastrophically weakened by the impact. "Reload!" You shout down to Roy, but he's already ahead of you, removing a paint round from the ready rack and lining it into the breach.

Meanwhile, the M3 Lee is jumping into action, it's 37mm turret spinning to try to get a shot on you, but the fallen wall is partially pinning it's rotation- It'll get a shot at you, but you might have enough time to knock it out first.

The next five seconds are the most painfully slow in your life, as you watch their 37mm turret swivel towards you- stopping and starting as it pushes debris out of the way. You bite your lip, willing the bricks to be strong!

"Up!" Roy shouts, and you nearly collapse in relief- but you're not out of the woods yet, the 37mm is nearly on target and Rose still needs to pull the-

"Firing!" Rose calls. The Pershing's gun roars just as the 37mm comes onto you, the round going high as the Lee rocks backward with the impact, a large red splotch coating the hull just behind the crew hatch.

"Good kill!" You shout with glee. "One down!"

Do we know the layout of the area? If so, we should be able to make educated guesses as to where their forces might be set up.

Push the advantage, switch to the other side of the main road and keep moving. We could always do the risky manuver of on-foot recon, park inside an old church, scale the bell tower and scan the area for our prey...

"Alright, let's go!" You say, rotating the turret forward so it doesn't catch on any buildings. "Keep moving forward- they know we're attacking but they don't know where." You keep moving down the alley- as long as you're on the move they won't know exactly where you are, which means you can take apart their ambush tank by tank.

You smile- the girls were already learning what they needed to know- the Lee's ambush point would've been excellent if you had kept going down the main street- but they didn't know everything yet. Besides, they needed to learn how to adapt to a changing tactical map.

As you're thinking this, you're given the most wonderful of prizes- you see Miho's Panzer IV dart across your alley, seemingly attempting to pull back. It's gone before you can stop the tank for a proper stop, but it didn't look like she'd seen you either. Taking Miho out would decapitate the rest of the team. (Forcing them to think for themselves instead of recieving directions... See? It's for learning!)

When your ambush is broken the first thing to do is pull back before the opponent can wreck your face. If she was buttoned down then it's not likely that they saw us and we can take a shot at her. Otherwise, turn the turret in the other direction, there'll be someone else she warned.

We can't stay here since it'll give anyone who comes up the rear a free kill, and moving up exposes us to the same amount of danger anyway.

>but the nazi's who tried to build it did
They also thought the Maus was a viable design. The "wunderwaffe" were pretty much invariably retarded as all hell and completely impossible/impractical. This is because Hitler's solution to a scientist looking him in the eye and saying "That idea is so stupid that everyone in the room is dumber for hearing it." was to replace them.
>>
>>26043073

Ah, it's a ramjet; it could probably go that fast in a straight line (if it didn't melt first, that is), but it'd be useless at low speeds and not terribly maneuverable.
>>
>>26043199
and yet much of the wunderwaffle R&D went on to be extremely successful for NASA and the USAF

what made the wunderwaffle so stupid then was the situation germany was in, sure, they had brilliant ideas, but no feasible way to refine or execute them

when you get the same scientists and say, you know what, heres unlimited money, what can you do, the wunderwaffle becomes very much a real thing
>>
>>26043268
The problem with the wunderwaffe projects is there was no outside force to say "this is retarded, shut it down and do something else", case in point the maus, which was a pants-on-head retarded idea to begin with, but was continued for years.
>>
>>26043360
and given 2 more months, they would have completed 9 more mice...

its interesting to look at what the wunderwaffle tried, and then achieved under control of the USAF, its like polar opposites, 1 is outlandish and crazy because, hey, why not be crazy? and the other is all that crazy refined into the best progressive designs in the time period
>>
>>26043360

Actually, there was an outside force to say "this is retarded, shut it down and do something else" it's just that force was the Nazi political leadership and they had raging boners for the idea.

All of which would have been hilariously useless because it topped out at 8.1 mph under ideal conditions, and had no way to defend itself against infantry or aircraft. Lack of an anti-air capability is not a problem with a faster and/or smaller tank, it's a difficult target to hit, but if your tank moves about as fast as a tranquilized snail, and is the size of a small building, it will get it's shit fucked up by aircraft.
>>
>>26043574
The actual shocker was that the Maus wasn't the worst tank of the war.
>>
>>26043574

Not to mention, in 2 months the allies could have produced enough shermans and T-34/85s to bury the Maus in corpses (not that it would have come to that, since the Maus probably wouldn't have been very reliable given the record of other German late-war tanks).
>>
"Stop!" You call to your driver. "Full stop!" Richard immediately puts on the breaks and Black Jack quickly slows to a stop. "If Miho's retreating then the rest of them won't be far behind..." They were probably trying to pull back to the hills at the rear of the academy ship- the initial ambush had already failed, so their big hope was to try to pull back to a secondary position where they had better defilade and line of sight.

You smile, waiting for the next tank to cross street in front of you. They're taking their sweet time, though. Maybe they scattered? Figured that if they went in different directions you wouldn't have time to track them all down- not exactly a bad idea, but Miho wasn't exactly one for passive strategies like that.

It's as you contemplate this that you feel two loud pops against the back of the turret.

"Dammit." You say, resigned as you pop the hatch to see who's behind you- the I-Go and 38(t) were both behind you at this point. Noriko gives you a happy little wave from the top of her little peasant-crusher. You roll your eyes and melt back down into the turret. "Dammit. Dammit. Dammit." Out the front scope the StuG finally trundles across your field of view- it was probably waiting there in case you tried to chase Miho down.

Well, they've got ten minutes to get a head start on you now.

>>
>>26043929
The lesson here is that it is a complete roll of the dice which of the options just so happens to be the right one.

Therefore it is best to choose the option that sound the most awesome so that we at least lose in a blaze of glory instead of whimpering in a corner.
>>
>>26044016
I think the best choice is trying to find other targets thus moving out of the zone.
>>
>>26043864
We can't maneuver at all in that alley, which as you just saw, left us completely open to fire from the rear with no ability to retaliate. (Although in practise the I-Go and Pz 38 wouldn't have been able to penetrate the armor)

Moving out into the open would give us more maneuvering room, even if we had to take a shot from the StuG.

Rose nods, immediately joining in your games. "More than likely... Hippo team, maybe?" She askes you. It was a pretty good guess- They would definitely share interests.

"Guys? Seriously?" Roy says, already annoyed. You smile- uninformed gossip about your crewmembmers potential love lives- fun for the whole crew!

"What do you mean 'can't have that'? You'd totally go for that, right Rose?"

>Ignore him and continue guessing.

Or rather "Watch Rose strangle him and continue guessing!"

Student council! He's sweet talkng them so he can get away with his homework!
>>
>>26046068
Wait, how would that be cradle-robbing? The freshmen are like 15, and our team is 17 at the oldest.
>>

Because we're being an ass, that's how

>"Patrick, that is genius!"

Because it's funny to make Roy squirm

By the way BlackJack, I'm glad you're giving Roy something to do in the quest other than loading shells.
>>
>>26046068
>Ignore him and continue guessing.
Rose got Patrick handled.

"Oh look! There's the Stug!"
Then, if Roy goes "Where?" we give him the knowing grin.
>>
I give it one more sentence of mockery before Rose backs up her brother and asks us about our "date with Yukari" (using those words) and spaghetti erupts out of our school uniform all over the inside of our tank.

I know right.

I can't wait.

>And then Patrick hits the transmit button to screw with us.
>>
>>26046086
We must first secure our escape route.
The moment those words leave our lips we climb out of the commander's hatch and work our way from there.
We've got a plenty of time to stretch our legs.
>>

>And then Patrick hits the transmit button to screw with us.

MAGNIFICENT
>>
>>26046345

Cue collective facepalms and mutterings of "Boys..." from all of the Garupans! And metric tons of ridicule for the weeks to come...
>>
>>26046307
We end up shouting "We're just friends" over the radio and completely blow our chances.
>>
>>26046442

Not really, thats like the best indicator that something is up.
>>
>>26046442
I don't think that'd blow anything.
If anime ever taught me anything it's that getting defensive and blurting "We're just friends!" while the other party overhears it is actually quite potent a relationship flag.
>>
>>26046507
>>26046523
Only if we stammer it in an obviously panicked manner, which of course we will.
>>
>>26046507
>>26046523
Which would totally be true if Yukari wasn't an autism. She would take it quite literally.
>>
>>26046579
Yeah this is what I was thinking.
>>
>>26046068
>>"Patrick, that is genious!"
>>
You stop- everything stops for about three seconds. "Patrick... You are GENIOUS." You say excitedly. "It all makes so much sense!" You say, shaking your head.

"She's not really interested in Roy, per se..." Patrick observes from his place in the hull. "She just wants Rose's genes."

Rose is already giving you a dirty look. "Rose, you should be flattered! She wants you so much she's willing to seduce your brother just to have some version of you..."

"You really don't want to talk about this..." She warns, but you ignore it. And more importantly, Patrick ignores it.

"I dunno, think Roy would be up for a relationship like that?" He askes out loud.

That's all Rose needs at this point. "So, more importantly, Commander..." She starts, sounding as innocent as you did. "Did you get a second date with Yukari yet?"

...Dammit.

That would be completely out of character for commander badatromance. Every time something like involving romance has come up before he's been barely suppressing total panic.
>>
>>26046654

Well, for maximum (bad) effect we could answer: "Not yet, no! I'd ask how it goes for you, but unless you turned lesbian, there's not like you have much choice!"

Of course, we'd be lucky escaping being used as target dummy without being inside a tank afterwards. (At the very least!)

Damn, I'm late to this party. But didn't we bet that Darjeeling & co should participate in the Anglerfish dance on top of the Excelsior should Rose win a couple of threads back?

While that description is arguably technically accurate, it's likely that if Yukari has an autism spectrum disorder (not everyone who shows some of the symptoms does, in spite of common internet belief) it'd be Aspergers. Limited social skills, very focused range of interest, tendency to go off on long-winded babbling rants without noticing if anyone else is even listening, et cetera.
