You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

You’ve always liked to think of yourself as a good person, but you’re pretty sure that two weeks ago you wouldn’t have dared to face down a giant wolf armed only with an improvised club. You certainly wouldn’t have been able to rely on the backup of your telekinetic best friend and her mother’s best silver spoons.

Still, the two of you drove off the wolf and saved a young girl, and now you’re feeling pretty good about yourself. Your arm still hurts a bit, but the bandages aren’t showed under your shirt. The conversation afterwards could have gone better, but that’s something you’re going to have to worry about in the future. The fairly near future, actually, since it’s now Monday morning, and you’ll have to face Jill at school.

Oh, and there’s also all the other things you’ll have to deal with at school, like a supernaturally manipulative cult leader, a demonically-powered drug-dealer, and possibly a werewolf.

Maybe worrying in the present isn’t such a bad idea.

What do you want to focus on today?

[]Watch everyone around you. See who’s injured and limping.
[]Talk to Jill. Try and smooth things over between you, her and Avril.
[]Talk to Avril. Let her do the talking with Jill, but plan things out with her.
[]Talk to Isabella. She still owes you an answer, and she might know this werewolf. Or be in charge of them.

Give Jill some space, before we talk to her. And we kinda need to discover who's the werewolf ASAP.

Plan with Avril, the pair of you try to get Jill onboard with a trio rather than a couple, and pay attention to people being weird and/or hurt but that's kind of a passive thing

Though I wonder if the werewolf is dumb enough to actually come to school with a limp, instead of staying home along with the other students who are afraid of the big bad wolf.

We're a nerd, right?
Silvering a hunting knife through galvanization should technically produce a good effect as well, with the advantage of heaving a weapon with actual cutting and stabbing power.
Not that I'm too hot on the idea of killing, especially when it could lead back to us, but still.
inb4 stop gaming the system.

Yeah, but this is England.
A table knife is far less likely to get us in trouble than a hunting knife that we may need a license for.

Why don't we all get along? Acquire hypodermic needles (those are cheap), use some electrolytic chemistry to deposit metalic silver on them, and give them to Jill. Now you have a lethal weapon.

Bonus point for miniature toothpick embedded inside the needle, for all your vampiric slaying.
>>
>>26114211
Your first class today is Biology. It looks like pretty much everyone is back to school now - you wonder if word has gone round about your heroics on Saturday. No-one's obviously limping - hmm. There's two people over in the corner - the feminine-looking guy you noticed in your Chemistry class on Friday, the one you're pretty sure was at Isabella's party, and the Asian guy who's also in your Geography class. They're whispering to each other in a fairly urgent manner. And the Indian guy is favouring one arm pretty clearly. You can't see his legs, though.

You watch the pair for a little while. When the Asian guy gets up to go to his next lesson, he doesn't seem to be limping, but he's definitely got some injuries on one arm, and you think maybe on the side of his torso too.

He doesn't seem to have noticed that you were watching them, but you think the other boy did.

You head to Mathematics, keeping an eye on the people you pass. No-one is obviously limping. You spot Jason on the other side of a crowd, but he's gone before you can get through. He's definitely back in school, though.

Jill is looking a little embarrassed when you reach Maths. She's still saved a seat for you, but she's turned away a bit and she's got her head down in her textbook. Avril is a few seats away, also with a space next to her.

[]Go sit by Jill. (What do you want to say?)
[]Go sit by Avril. (What do you want to say?)
[]Try and get one of them to move, so you're all sitting together?

You nod to Avril and slip into the seat by Jill. She doesn't look up from her textbook even as you start to talk.

"Hi, Jill. I, uh... I'm sorry about Saturday. I know it was kind of unfair of us not to tell you earlier... there never really seemed like a good time, and it's kind of a tricky subject at the best of times, and... I'm sorry."

Jill sighs, keeping her gaze firmly fixed on the book. "I know, Chris. It's not like I blame you. It just kind of sucks. And I still don't know what to do about Avril's... offer. It seems wrong, but... well, so does everything these days. People shouldn't date two people at once, but people shouldn't float spoons either, or... do whatever it is Avril does, with flowers. She made a flower bloom, just picked it up and waved her hand over it and it was as pretty as a magazine picture. I've got it in a vase at home. It hasn't wilted one bit. I think I'll have to hide it soon, before my mother notices that. Did you know she was... magic? Is there anything else that's been hidden from me that I ought to know before I start making big decisions about things?

Get Avril in on it too- she probably knows stuff that we don't about the supernatural in general, it wouldn't be in good faith to give away her secret without her knowing about it.

[X]Admit to knowing about Avril's magic. She doesn't need to know about the suicide thing just yet, and it's a little creepy. Not to mention embarrassing.
[X]Promise to tell her everything at lunch. This really isn't the place.
Just tell her a short "I know", then promise to elaborate at lunch.
>>
>>26115011
"Yeah, I knew. There's kind of a lot to talk about, though, and some of it isn't mine to tell. Let's get together at lunch, when we can talk privately, and I'll tell you everything, okay?"

Jill frowns. "All right. I guess that makes sense. I still want to know everything, though. My mother keeps enough secrets from me already, I don't need you doing it too."

The time passes quickly enough - more with worry than enjoyment. You still haven't spotted anyone limping, or anyone else with noticeable injuries. It's a fairly big school, though. What if it's just someone you don't share any classes with? You wouldn't be able to track them until they struck again. What if they've just decided to take some time off school until they're fully healed? You know sometimes werewolves are supposed to heal faster than normal people... Oh, that was the bell for the start of lunch. You look down and notice you've made reasonably good notes for your German lesson even while distracted. Still, if you want to keep your marks up you should try to divide your attention a bit more evenly between monster-hunting and school.

Jill is a little annoyed to be eating outside rather than in the nice cool dining hall, but she understands that you couldn't really talk about supernatural things where someone at the next table could overhear. She finishes up quickly, then sits across the table from you and Avril, waiting patiently.

How do you want to explain things to her?
>>
>>26115175
Start from the beginning. Tell her everything about what happened you, avoiding the whole rape thing that happened. just leave that at losing control unless Avril elaborates
>>
>>26115175
We and Avril take turns explaining about ourselves, and then the both of us go into more detail about everything else- Isabella and Jason, the probable werewolf, what could Masami be... We leave out the rape unless Avril brings it up, we should should probably mention that we had some pretty powerful hungers before we got help putting a tighter leash on them.
>>
>>26115240
This. Stress that we seem to need Avril on a physical level.
>>
>>26115175
Start at the beginning, I suppose, with our apparent death. Include that we did lose control of our Hungers at one point, and attacked Avril (don't go into details), but that she and her dad have helped us to control it, especially her dad.
Go into greater detail on the dangers that Isabella poses, and the probable werewolf.
We can share a suspicion that Masami may also be more than she seems, but she's a friend and we should respect her privacy.

More or less full disclosure; Jill didn't want any secrets between us, and we need to show that we're not like her mom.
>>
>>26115273
if we stress that at all, which we shouldn't, it should be past tense. It is want rather than need now, we will control our hunger.
>>
>>26115273
>Stress that we seem to need Avril on a physical level
That's how it was before.
If we stress anything about it, it should be that Avril's dad has helped us pull back and get control over that hunger, and that it's under control now.
We don't want to scare Jill away.
>>
>>26115276
this. Give as much information as possible without bringing up painful memories
>>
>>26115175
((Writing now))
>>
>>26115319
I wouldn't even get specific with what we hungered for unless Jill asks. We just say that our condition involved powerful hungers that we had difficulty managing until Avril's dad helped us put a collar on them.
>>
>>26115373
Yea, make it like that.
OR talk about the control thing.
>>
I just hope that we word things so that Avril doesn't have a flashback. We have to be very careful how we approach what happened then.
>>
>>26115623
That sounds like a perfectly healthy start, and a good way to not hide things we aren't proud of. Please don't.
>>

"The place I should probably start is two Sundays ago. I sort of... died. Except obviously I'm up and walking about and so on, but... have you noticed I've been a bit colder than normal lately?"

Jill stares at you a bit. "You... died and came back to life? Okay, that's... I'm really not sure what to think about that. If people can just die and come back to life by magic or whatever, that's... well, you can see why that'd be a bit troubling, right?"

"I'm pretty sure I'm not Jesus, Jill. Like I said, I'm cold, and... there's kinda these hungers. I lost control of them once, and... it wasn't good." You notice Avril shudder a little. "Avril and her dad helped find a way to keep them under control, though. Oh, uh, Avril's..." You stumble over your words a little, and glance over at Avril. She seems to take it as a cue.

"I can't say too much, Jill. I don't mean I'm keeping secrets from you, I literally can't say certain things, and it looks like Chris is having trouble saying them too. But I'm not just someone who can do fancy things with flowers, and my family isn't exactly 100% human. I'm not a demon, I can promise you that. And when I promise something, I really mean it, okay? I'm not going to lie to you about that. I can't."

Avril walks over to Jill, and gently takes her hand. "I really do care about you, Jill. If I could tell you everything, I would in a heartbeat. I'm going to tell you as much as I can, at least."

((Cont.))
>>
>>26115896
Avril continues, looking straight into Jill’s eyes as much as possible. “Like I said before, promises, contracts, pledges, they’re all very important to me. So are growth and nature – that’s why I could show you that lovely flower. I’m still mostly human, but there are things in my blood that make me a bit more special than most – just like there are things in your blood that make you able to do things, things that can save a little girl and a friend from a monster, right?”

Jill nods a little uncertainly, and you add, “Speaking of monsters, there’s stuff we should warn you about too. Isabella’s not just mean; she’s got some supernatural stuff of her own going on. That drug dealer guy, Jason, him too. And I think you already figured out why that silver spoon was so good at driving off that wolf, didn’t you?”

She nods. “Full moon, wolf that attacks people, wolf that *big* - I mean, it sounds like something out of a horror film, but when you’ve already seen psychic powers, werewolves aren’t that big a jump any more. Nor are... what, zombies? Revenants?”

“Ghoul, I think”, you say.

“You... wait, you eat people? Isn’t that what ghouls do?”

“No, no, no!” You wave your hands frantically. “Different sort of hungers. Uh. Nothing you really need to worry about. Like I said, it’s all under control now.”

((Cont.))
>>
>>26115910
Jill raises an eyebrow, and looks at Avril, who’s withdrawn a bit. “Ok. Conversation for another time, maybe. And Avril was talking about nature and contracts... uh.” She thinks a moment. “Not a demon. What else makes bargains? Fairy?” Avril visibly winces, and replies, “Please don’t say ‘fairy’. Fae, Fair Folk, Sidhe, whatever, but ‘fairy’ just makes me think of Tinker Bell.” Jill nods. “Fae, right. Sorry.”

Jill leans back on the bench and sighs. “This is a lot to take in. My best friend is *dead*, the girl I have a crush on isn’t 100% human, there’s a werewolf and God knows what else roaming the school, I can move things with my mind, I have a crush on a girl at all, every single thing my mother ever told me makes no sense at all when people can just rise from the dead for no reason... oh, and maybe I can go out with a girl who already has a boyfriend, who doesn’t mind me going out with her, and is also my best friend who I also have a bit of a crush on, and also he’s dead and... yeah. I don’t know where to start here."

"I do want to... get to know Avril better. And I do really like you too, Chris. And thank you both for telling me all this. But I do have one more question. What the heck do I do now?”

>>
>>26116229
You smile, and gently take Jill's hand. Avril takes Jill's other hand between both of hers.

"Be our friend. Trust us. Love us, if that's what your heart tells you to do. I don't know what life would be like without you as my friend, but I know I don't want to find out."

Jill clutches your hand and Avril's, and you can see her eyes water a little as she smiles. "We can just start by hanging out as friends, right? Three friends just hanging around together, and we'll see how it goes from there?"

"Of course. Do whatever feels right to you, and you know we'll support you whatever you decide. Take it slow - we're still figuring out all this supernatural stuff ourselves, but that doesn't mean we can't still try to have a normal life, right? We're still people. We can go out with friends, pass exams, fall in the mud or fall in love."

Avril grins, holding Jill's hand gently, and adds "How about you stop worrying and come to a film with us after school? Just three friends, like you said before. Even if you don't feel up to a date, I'd still like to get to know you better. We'll treat you to whatever film you like, okay?"

Jill smiles, and draws both of you into a big hug. "Yeah, I'd like that a lot."

The bell goes, and you and Jill hurry off to Geography. Masami's already there - she seems to have grabbed a table for the three of you. Jason's glowering in the far corner. Zack, Cassandra and the Indian guy you saw in Biology aren't here yet.

Huh. Athletes get a lot of minor injuries, of course, it's a hazard of sports, but... Zack is definitely limping a little bit. And he's trying to hide it, too.

Cassandra and the Asian guy come in together, glaring daggers at each other.

While I'm curious about Masami, it can wait in favor of knowing if we need to take better precautions against a werewolf.

Look meaningfully at Jill and wonder about Zack's injuries, then go talk to him. "Hey Zack, I wonder if I could borrow a spoon from you? I seem to have misplaced mine. You nod to Masami and Jill, slide out of your seat, and mosey over to Zack. "Hey, man. How're you? You look like you hurt your leg or something."

Zack rubs the back of his neck. "Uh... yeah, it's nothing, really, just sprained it training. I'll be fine by the next game."

"Are you sure? I heard sprains can be pretty nasty. And did you hurt your side?"

Zack starts a little. "Uh... damn, you're perceptive. Yeah, but like I said, it's nothing. I caught myself on... something. A door handle or something, I think." He looks puzzled for a second, like he's forgotten something, then shakes his head. "Thanks for your concern, man, but I'll be fine, really." You nod, and head back to your own seat.

Jill frowns. "You think it might be him? He seemed friendly enough."

"I'm not sure... He seemed kind of confused when I was asking about his injuries, like he couldn't quite remember where he'd gotten them. It might be someone else, but he's certainly someone to watch."

Privately, after school, of course.

Masami frowns a bit, but doesn't press the point. "Okay. Where's Mr Stokes? Shouldn't he be here teaching? He's really late now."

"Probably. But we get a lesson off, isn't that a good thing?"

"I... suppose. What should we do for the rest of the lesson, then? If he's not showing up, I guess we can leave?"

[]Masami is probably right. Let's go find somewhere more private to talk with her and Jill.

You nod, packing your books back into your bag. "Let's go find somewhere more pleasant to talk, then."

Jill smiles. "Have you seen the school library, Masami?"

"Yes, it's lovely. Quiet, and with a surprising array of books. Shall we head there for the rest of the day, then?"

The three of you head off to the library, Jill stopping off at the desk to return some of her books and grab a few more from the shelves while Masami picks out a table large enough for you all to sit comfortably with an array of books. You pick out the book of Japanese spirits you were looking at last week, and the book on cults that had the symbol of Masami's church in it. She doesn't seem to bat an eyelid at either, but she may just not have noticed - she's discovered the library's small shelf of manga and is avidly catching up, bemoaning its tiny selection of volumes.

Is there anything you particularly want to discuss with Masami, now that you've got a fairly empty library to talk in?

"You heard about the big animal attacks, didn't you, Masami? A big wolf, prowling around on the nights of the full moon... Weird, huh? Do you believe in the supernatural? Werewolves, vampires, spirits?"

Masami blinks a little, her expression going blank. "Werewolves are... people that turn into wolves, yes? I... suppose it's possible. People turn into all sorts of things. I've never seen a vampire or one of the Shinto gods, only the... uh. Never mind. But I suppose they might exist too." Masami trails off a little, then turns to you. "Have you ever met one of the servants of your Christian god? Are they..... nice?" She seems a little nervous. Jill has fetched her books, but is standing a little way from the table, behind Masami, and seems like she doesn't want to interrupt you.

What do you want to say?

"I've seen some pretty weird things, Masami. Some of them were nice, some of them very much not. I don't think any of them were angels, though. What was it you were going to say before? Something about other servants?"

Masami shakes her head. "I... shouldn't talk about them with outsiders, really. But the servants of my family's god.... they're not as nice as angels are supposed to be. Not as pretty, either."

Jill seems to take the pause that follows as a good point to come in, sliding her large stack of books onto the table on the opposite side of you from Masami. "Hi, guys. What were you talking about?" Masami looks down at her manga. "Uh... nothing important, really. Old stories and legends and so on."

Jill sighs, but lets it drop. "I was thinking that maybe we should all go out to that film together, make sure everyone gets to know each other. What do you think, Masami? Do you want to come watch a film after school?"

Masami looks up, startled. "Uh. A film... with you?"

"With me, and also with Chris, and Chris' friend Avril who I don't think you've met. We should all hang out, just as a group of friends." She turns to you. "What do you think, Chris? Can Masami come along?"

"Sure, that'd be fine. I'll give Avril a text and let her know we've got someone extra coming."

The three of you pass the rest of what would have been your Geography lesson in the calm, comfortable kind of silence that exists around a group of people who are all content to peacefully sit and read a marvellously engaging book. It's comfortingly normal - you've passed many an hour in libraries, reading next to Jill like this.

Avril has apparently headed off to the cinema already, as she's not waiting outside the school gates when you emerge. Jill shyly takes your hand as you walk, Masami failing to suppress a small, sweet smile at the sight.

The cinema is just starting to get busy by the time you arrive - apparently Monday is one of their more popular nights. It's probably a good thing you didn't try to make this a date; there's no way you could get away with your previous antics in a more crowded screen.

You spot Avril from the door - that green hair is a useful beacon sometimes. Jill goes to sort out tickets while you head over there with Masami to handle introductions.

Avril steps forward, smiles, and holds out her hand to shake. Masami nervously offers her hand in return - and as soon as they touch, Avril visibly recoils. She shakes her head a little, and hisses at Masami, who's looking back at her with a curious expression. Then they square off in a distinctly martial stance.

i dont know if it has anything to do with Kappas.

Its probably just an heirloom with some religious significance.

Chances are, Masami isnt a Kappa skin anyways, but some sort of skin similar to a Fey. Probably something Oriental, like a Raksasha (or however you spell it) but has Kappa like features.

Or she is Fey but from a rival court.

<<<

Got it. French city which name is litterally translated as "near the water" got a logo that looks like that.

But the city motto
>Les lis seuls règnent sur la lune, les flots, le château et le lion
talks about french kings, moon, water, castle and lion (this one refering to the english occupation). So there is potential for deeper fuckery.

I had throught it was the symbol of Diane de Poitier (first mistress of a french king).
>>
>>26120035
While that is some seriously impressive image work, I'm sorry to inform you that that's a totally separate crescent symbol. Similar looking, but the wrong way up and with the wrong separation of the crescents.

As far as I know, no-one has yet located the source of the pendant's symbol. Just a random thought. Are we treating other skins as characters? If so then it may be possible to remove people from Isabella's gang by removing "one of us" from them. Assuming he's really feral and not in control it really might a good idea to befriend and/or perhaps bind him. This shit is apparently surfacing with puberty, so unless we put a stop to it people will. keep. dying. for the rest of our school career, till someone scoops him up and teaches him control or till he gets shot badly enough that even his regen can't cope with it quickly enough.
GLORIOUS HEROISM isn't IC for Chris, but it would nevertheless feel bad to have people disappear by someone who we could have helped, not to mention that he DID attack our sister.

>>26121459

If it's that, it would explain the intuitive repulsion Avril felt. Fae are quite alien and not exactly "good", but they still stand for a much more accommodating vision of life and the universe than the Old Ones who wish to "drag the world off to some corner of the universe for unknowable purposes", to paraphrase the Dunwhich Horror.

The latter part is that the design came in thread 3-4, so the lovecraft influence has been here for a while. As to whether Hexer knew about it, I cannot say.
