I almost ask Sally if she could carry us up, but a single thought that had been bouncing off the walls of my mind stops me-

This is Olympus.
Mount Olympus, home to the gods of Greek and Roman Mythology.

The stories of Homer, of Sophocles and Euripides, Aristophanes- of Plutarch and Virgil-

When we were younger, I'd been obessed with Classical Myths, and had even read a few of them to Zoe when she was sick (They weren't really her style, it turned out), And now, here in this realm, we had just met and spoken with Hephaestus- with Vulcan- the god of smiths. The God who made the armor of Achilles, and all the thrones the Gods sat upon-

And we just spoke with him. Like we were friends.

Odd, bubbly glee fill my chest, and I can't hold back a laugh as the shock of it all finaly hits me.

Talking animals that transform? Sure. Giant ogres that hang out in schools? I can believe that. A trip to another dimension? Okay. Meeting four gods that want us to save the world? No problem! But talking to the gods I've read about since I was a kid? Somehow I can't wrap my head around it.

Holy shit, I'm losing it.
>>
>>26134259
"Zoe," I begin, unusually calm for the amount of excitement rushing through me. "We just spoke with one of the Greek Gods." She nods wordlessly from beside me, her own eyes wide. She apparently picked up on that as well. I can feel a smile threatening to break

out on my face, and I don't make any effort to stop it. "We just spoke to one of the Greek. Gods." Sally looks at me curiously, Aslan following suit, though a bit more skeptical.

"What do you mean, Wayne?" She blinks, then, as if realizing something, continues. "I mean, of course he's a God, and it was really scary at first, but-"

"But what is the significance of it to you? You wouldn't know any of the gods of the Digital World." Aslan speaks up, his tone even and not at all betraying the fear he had shown not long ago when actually speaking with the god.

I shake my head, my smile fading, now that I'm reminded of the situation.

"You're right- I wouldn't know this world's gods...if they weren't some of the same gods our world once had." I point back down the tunnel, "That was Vulcan- or Hephaestus- the God of Smithining, the God who made the majority of the weapons and armor in Greek legend. Which means above us-" I point to the cloud bank overhead, still flashing with lightning strikes, though now silhouettes can be seen in the split-second bursts of light. "...is Olympus, the home of some of the most fickle and capricious gods in myth." Sally gulps, and Aslan begins to look worried, sending a quick glance over to Zoe. "In our world, these gods were portrayed as powerful, but incredibly self-centered, and thus incredibly dangerous to interact with." The two digimon share an anxious glance, and I realize that maybe telling two overprotective beings their partners just spoke with a god from a pantheon known for being childish and vindictive wasn't the best idea.

"Don't worry, they're not -all- like that. A lot of them are like Vulcanusmon and are pretty reasonable, excepting one or two minor incidents.

Just treat them as, well, gods."
>>
You know, if these are like the greek gods...we need to be quite careful we don't go near anyone who has a name with 'venus' in it.
Or Sally would probably go Yandere Ophanimon on us, or something.
>>

If not, we should be giving him his digivolution next fight.

>>

>>
>>26134594
Yeah that.

Maybe give a brief explanation on the other gods, we can just take a guess and assume that they're going to have the Roman names and then 'mon' after that.
>>
So, I was here for the FAQ yesterday; I'd like to say, one of our main goals should be to try and encourage the other spirits who have given up to get into the fight again.
We're only one group, sure, but if we can get them back into the game, that'd be pretty great.
>>
>>26134624
Though it's highly likely that there already is an actual god ophanimon around here somewhere, considering all the gods we're encountering and are supposed to seek out.

>>
>>26134711
That's probably a long term goal.

We need to first find out what the cause of the problem actually is, before inspiring others to help solve it.
>>
>>26134774
We are aiming for getting the olympians back into the fight, though.
So there is at least a chance of us handling it before whatever apocalypse is waiting comes around.
>>
>>26134753
Yep; let's not have that ever happen.
It's going to be an interesting enough trip (since some will include Lilithmon) that we don't have to add in anything like that.

...Though I do think that this would be the most likely dark digivolution for Sally.
>>
>>26134813
I think the problem is the apocalypse is already here.

Right now the best we can do is ask if they know what's happening and why.
>>
So, Gale is writing now, right?

>>26134879
I think it's coming, but not quite here yet.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be talk of saving them, or anyone around to give us a message.
>>
>>26134935
Yes, sorry. Writing now.
>>
>>26134959

Yeah, that wasn't such a good idea.
"But don't worry, they're not all like that-" I wave in the tunnel's direction again. "Look at Vulcanusmon- he was perfectly civil and even friendly, when he had no reason to be." I think it best to keep to myself that Vulcan/Hephaestus was always the most humble and down to earth of the Pantheon. "The important thing is to always treat them with respect, and if necessary deference. These Gods have massive egos, and one of the best ways to get out unscathed is to appeal to that." I take a moment to think, before continuing.

"Also, it could be that they're not completely equivalent to the versions in our myths, in which case things might not be as bad as they could potentially be." Sally nods slowly, not quite convinced, and Aslan sends Zoe a concerned glance, before huffing to himself and nodding.

Zoe, however, doesn't seem so concerned about the Gods at the moment- instead, she's looking about, scanning the area for something. When she notices my gaze on her, she gestures to the sea of clouds before us.

"Wayne...how are we supposed to get up there in the first place? I don't see anything connecting the two cloud layers, and I'm NOT letting any of us fly up there with Sally." She punctuates by pointing at the thunderstorm over our heads. She has a valid point. Sally would be a sitting duck in there.

But how do we get up there?

We all fan out, searching for...something that'll help us. Perhaps a road or flight of stairs?
The search goes on for some time, but every time I cross paths with another of our group, neither of us has found anything.

The search apparently fruitless, I turn back to the center of the mountain, still spewing out clouds. The clouds seem to be coming from the depths of the rock, but the way they bubble out is unusual- it's almost like they're shaped into the pilar of white, only spreading away from that core when they're a certain distance up.

That column of clouds isn't normal- but then again, that's a very dumb thing to say about this place.

I begin to edge closer, slowly moving to the lip of the volcano's crater. I'm nearly hit by a stray burst of the clouds, and note with a grimace that the air around that burst was incredibly warm-

These clouds...are they steam? Smoke? I can't tell, but they seem to change their state as soon as they pass a certain point.

Shielding my face with my arm, I can feel the moisture, hot enough to sting, gathering on the limb. It's not a burn, but neither is it pleasant. Peering into the column, I can just make out a faint shine- there's something metallic in there.

I think a low power Baluna Gale should blow the smoke away long enough for a quick observation...

>>

Let's not risk our tent with something strange.
We need that to have a relatively decent place to sleep every night, after all.

I like the Balaluna Gale idea, though, that's a nice one.
>>
...Wayne doesn't remember any myth about gods being pissed if you check out their stuff, right?
>>
So the general idea seems to be go and ask Sally for help - an idea I approve of, for the record.

After all, going closer, when it is getting hot enough to sting, is a bad idea.
>>
>>26137367
ARE there any myths where gods would get pissed at someone messing with this?
Gale, Wayne would likely know.
>>
>>26137367
>>26137589
without knowing what it is, Wayne can't make any judgements on that.
The object in the middle could be anything- you only know it's metallic.

What is it you want to ask? Balaluna Gale? Aquary Pressure?
>>
>>26137824
Balaluna Gale, it seems?
I mean, unless she can just freely manipulate steam (but that'd probably require more points put into that ability).

>>
>Balaluna Gale: Level 2
>no further upgrades required for this task

I back away from the edge, retreating to a safer distance. That was like a sauna combined with a heat wave.

I motion Sally over, and before she can start fretting over my arm, draw her attention to the collumn of clouds and the hot gouts of vapor surrounding it.

"I have a feeling there's something in there," I tell her, and gesture to my arm. "Unfortunately, it's too dangerous to just walk in there.." Sally quickly gets the gist of what I'm saying, and she nods, a determined smile on her face.

"Leave it to me, then!" She lifts one hand, and closes her eyes, before lifting the other to join it. A mass of those digital runes gathers before her in a circle, glowing a cool teal, before vanishing- unleashing a blast of wind immediately afterwards. The wind punches straight through the mass of white before us, revealing what appears to be a silver staircase.

I say appears because the steps are only slats of metal, floating in the air with no rungs or support to be seen.

Sally turns to me and grins. "Looks like we've found our way in."

The steam is slowly beginning to refill the area, but we should be able to make it to the center easily enough...

I look between the ladder and our group, gauging the distance. With Zoe's inability to sprint, either Sally or myself will have to carry her. However, I don't know if Sally can cast her magic with one hand, and I have a feeling we're going to need it again soon, at the rate the steam is returning. I turn to Zoe, and she meets my eyes with a look that tells me she knows exactly where this is going.

"Zoe, I'm going to have to carry you across." She fidgets a bit, before taking a deep breath and nodding.

"I'm sorry I'm going to weigh you down," She says, before yelping as I quickly scoop her up in a bridal carry. I readjust my grip so she won't fall, and flash her a grin.

"Not at all. You're like a cloud." Her face reddens further, but by then, I've already started down the incline of the crater.

It's not too steep, but it's enough that a run would difficult to stop.

I run anyway. My legs are burning, both the muscles and the flesh exposed by my shorts, and the pain causes me to clench my jaw as I run.

Sally's flying next to us, and Aslan to our other side, as we near the silver staircase.

It hangs in the air, the first step just a foot away from the mouth that's spewing the clouds, and the other steps spiral above us. Now that we're so close to it, I can see that the steps are huge, wide slabs of metal, as if they were made to hold giants.

Another burst of steam rips by my ear, and I can feel the air pressure on that side suddenly pop in response. I put on a last burst of speed, and clear the Steam stretch, my final bound leaving my foot poised just above the first step.

Time seems to stand still, as the step glows a blue-white, and begins to move.

I just barely manage to land on the step, just as the glow intensifies and the metal beneath us begins to move. Aslan lands beside me, somewhat drunkenly stumbling as the movement messes with his landing, and Sally is floating beside me, a rather worried look on her face. She drifts closer, and almost reaches toward me, before looking at her claws and drawing the hand back.

"Wayne, your face..." She murmurs, and suddenly, I'm aware of the fact that the majority of my body is pain. Looking down at my hands and legs, I can see that they're both slicked with moisutre and a rather unhealthy red, and I can only assume my face is the same.

Zoe, however, is unharmed, though she seems to be just as drenched as I am. She still hasn't let go of my shirt, either- her hand seems to be locked onto the fabric. While trying to gently pry her fingers off, I take my first real look at the thing we're on-

It's not the kind of metal I thought it was- that is to say, it's nothing I've ever seen before. It's smooth, and I can feel minute vibrations travelling the length of the step as it moves, and as I look up, I can see the other steps are moving as well, spiralling upwards in a corkscew, like a massive drill aimed for heaven.

Aslan is looking between us and the sky, and Sally's attention is fixed on zoe and me.

We should...
