Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

We should refrain from buying MP4 from the earth tree the second we get 20xp.

If there is one in the water tree, then buying the one in the earth tree will put a 25xp roadblock in our completion of the water tree.

And we need to complete the water tree for HYDRA. So, at the very least, we should buy surge to check for a water tree Magic Power before we buy the earth tree Magic Power.

Also a kinda unrelated thought, Hydra works only in the dark, I wonder if buying Pure Darkness would let it work anywhere.

Hydra and pure darkness are linked by an upgrade, which probably removes the limitation and possibly expands the range of Hydra from cutting/piercing (would piercing count?)

Recent Events Summary:

You decided that one of the keys to the vault under Jacob's Field needed to be collected - the lightning key, possessed by the late Duke Vellik of Kelvere. You flew to Evinbrook, and found the castle city locked in a battle for survival. Kan-Abar's armies returned, with two demon lords in tow.

Duke Vellik made a plan to stall the demons with patched-up dwarven technology. You brought him to safety in exchange for the lightning key. You offered him further sanctuary, but he chose to remain with what forces he has left and make the Kanians pay for every inch they take.

In order to permanently resolve this situation, you need the rightful king back on the throne of Kan-Abar - Obis Vin. You decided to track him down, and you've followed him as far as Port Vanta, where he was looking for an old ally, a pirate captain named Blackwater who used to work as a privateer for Kan-Abar. Blackwater, however, made an enemy in a particular crime lord - Damian Vonnegut. You leanred that after he asked around too much for Blackwater, Obis vanished, and you suspected Vonnegut was the culprit after a tip from a tavern keeper.

You were able to locate Vonnegut's base of operations under the city, and as you snuck in, you encountered Freja Blackwater, the infamous pirate's daughter. After a brief confrontation, you figured out that your goals were the same, and joined forces. You were able to find Obis, who had been captured by Vonnegut - and after forcing Vonnegut into a corner by consuming nearly his entire crew, he struck a deal with you for the king's release.

Auriel sees great opportunities ahead. She wants to try to bring together Felnoir, Kelvere, Arland, and Archon into an alliance to turn and face the Kan-Abar army and the demon lords currently consolidating their position from Evinbrook.

You met with Felnoir's de-facto leader, the mayor of Maven Lake - and Freja's infamous father, Vidar Blackwater. He's promised to be in touch with Auriel. Meanwhile, you flew back to Archon to explain the situation to Fang, Sir Flint, and Adavan.

Abigail's entrance into the Archonium was sudden, and not what you expected. She is lost somewhere within the enchanted gateway, stuck between bits of her personality given life and pitted against one another. With no other recourse, you dived in after her, and are now deep within the recesses of your own mind, where you have encountered and merged with your Humanity.

>Last time...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVxiUNnDPJ4

You have a slight sense of vertigo as the faint 'horizon' of the colorless void flips and turns. You blink, and a new world settles around you.

You stand on a platform of paved onyx. Rising above you is a construct of ivory marble and gleaming steel. The white stone and smooth iron twist together in an elegant spiral tower that seems too thin to support its own weight. The inside of the construct itself is filled with gears, pistons, and sparks of dark magic. The heavy, rhythmic thundering of the machine echoes through the room. And it is a room - all of this is encased in the black slate you're standing on.

Ahead of you are three hallways. Behind you is a great door of slate, marble and steel. The door is tall, and carved with strange figures and letters that you cannot read. Three jagged holes are set in the center of the door.

It feels a bit odd, talking to yourself, but you're glad for the company. You're tired of being alone inside this strange place. You focus on the Humanity within you. <Well...as the humans say, two heads are better than one.>

<Indeed.> Humanity falls quiet for a moment. <Three holes in that door there...three halls.>

<And three shards of darkness.>

<Not a coincidence.>

<Indeed.>

You feel a glow of agreement from Humanity. <Stay vigilent. No telling what we'll find...in whatever this place is.>

Three halls lie before you. Which do you choose to enter?

You summon your wisp.

It zips out and flies around you head several times, then settles in front of you.

<Go into the left passage and scout down a ways. Tell me what you find.>

The wisp bobs and flies into the dark entrance, vanishing.

>mana: 32/34

A few minutes pass. You wait patiently.

The wisp reappears.

You see the image of a regular stone corridor, continuing on for some time. It turns at a sharp right angle...to another corridor. And then it turns again, another right angle.

This continues until you think the hall is about to intersect with the entrance point, but that never happens. Instead, the halls start to grow shorter, the turns more frequent. It's wrapping down into the center of a spiral.

Eventually, the hallways end at a door made of the slate-marble-steel that seems to dominate this place.

The images fade. The wisp couldn't get past the door.

What do you do?

You decide to try your luck with the spiral hallway. You sprint through the entrance and down the lengthy paths of stone. It holds true to what the wisp told you.

You arrive at the door.

Close up, you can see dark gears matching the ones of the central chamber. You feel a slight hum in your chest. Power flows through the depths of this place, though you can't well sense it. Everything is blotted out, like black ink on a black background.

You place a hand on the door. Power snaps through. It begins to shudder open. The gears click, and the doors slow, and grind to a halt. A vast darkness looms before you.

Wisp tries to move ahead of you, but it can't. It pushes and strains, but it can't clamber through the thick darkness.

What do you do?

Not everything is so black and white, ignoring the first illusion (Like I wanted I admit) where we saw john have a happy life could have made things more difficult with humanity (in different degrees). So there is a middle road to walk if we want to be smart and reasonable.
>>
>>26180592

Agreed, I think one of the points people were trying to make during that whole sequence is that while we do care about Abby a lot, we shouldn't define ourselves around her. We are still Shadow whether or not she's around.
>>
You press up to the thick, black darkness. It parts for you. You walk forward slowly.

The darkness seals up behind you. You try to move back, and discover that you can't.

With no choice, you push on, forging uncertainly into the black.

---------
---------

After a few moments, the darkness ends.

You're in a small stone chamber, the same black slate as before. Scattered about the stone are battered pieces of onyx crystal. They ooze a cold blackness. It feels...lonely.

Isolation.

Of course - it broke when you merged with Humanity.

You test the dark passage at your back. It still refuses to yield. Maybe you have to do something about Isolation before you can return?

You gather the shards into the center of the room. Piece by piece, a lump of shattered crystal begins to form.

<What do you think?> you ask Humanity. <I think we've no choice but to piece it back together.>

<Maybe, but what then?>

<What do you mean?>

<The first time we met, it lashed out as soon as we grew to close for its liking,> Humanity says. <It may have served you well while tame...but who's to say it won't have ideas of its own in this place?>

You put the last pieces of Isolation together. It's still just a pile of bits, but you can feel a familiar power begin to resonate within it. A bit more, and it might merge.

<Well, what do you suggest? We don't have a lot of options.>

<...I feel...like I could do something,> Humanity says. <...be the mortar that holds it together.>

for some reason i feel that letting humanity take a crack at it will humanize the thing more. like turn it from isolation into something more human like lonleyness

I don't think it would change it too radically, just shift it more toward a human frame of reference.

Guarding maybe, instead of isolation.

Isolation is a brol, and I'd think it would be more a bro as it's own shard over a part of Erebus' plot

It's definitely thematic. But I think keeping our nature and humanity separate is kind of dumb since our nature is too destroy all life. I think by not letting Humanity help us work it over, we're basically letting a part of Erebus sit and fester in us over subsuming it into something new and not part of some heinous plot. It's like we're willingly choosing to be bi-polar. Humanity is the one chance we got to stop this from what I can tell and we're not even utilizing it.

<No,> you say. <Let me do this alone. We have an understanding.>

<...if you say so.>

You push your power into Isolation.

The crystal glows. Green-black light flares between the pieces of the crystal. They begin to fuse back together.

Eventually, the crystal is completed.

>{Isolation} - Normal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ncsItpXptQ

The crystal wavers, then warps. It grows, and settles into the silent, looming form of Isolation.

It looks at you. It says nothing, and does nothing. It just stares.

Its gaze slowly shifts to the left.

You look to your side. Humanity is there - you're not sure when it appeared. Is there some sort of reaction between the two.

<...it's staring at me,> Humanity says.

<It does that.> You raise an arm to Isolation. Its eyes flick back to you. <Do you know what's going on?>

It nods.

<Want to help us get out of here?>

Isolation walks up to you. It plants itself next to you. The entire time it doesn't take its eyes off Humanity. It keeps itself firmly facing the flickering fire.

<I don't think it likes me,> Humanity says. <Hey, say something. I'm not going to bite.>

For a moment, Isolation's face transforms into a giant, toothless mouth. It lets out a shriek like nails on a chalkboard. Just as suddenly, it settles back at your side.

<...I guess that's a no,> Humanity says.

<Why are you suddenly here, anyway?> you ask.

Humanity gives you a shrug of its fire. <I'm not sure. I wasn't one moment, and then I was outside looking at you. Must have something to do with him.>

Hmm.

What do you do now?

The darkness behind you has vanished. You walk forward. Humanity floats in the air, a crystal on fire. Isolation sticks next to you, staying opposite you from Humanity. You don't get far before you run into your wisp.

Images flash in your mind. The central hallway seems to lead to another slate door. It's crossed several over with silvery chains and padlocks, obviously keeping something inside.

The right hall goes straight on for a time, and then ends at a strange statue. It looks like a lion with a human's head.

You return to the central chamber, Humanity on one side, Isolation on the other.

Which way do you go now?

We should probably try and work through whatever it is that's keeping us from having our cake and eating it too.

While this >>26181507 is true, it's not necessary to keep to one extreme or the other. The shard already recognizes that Isolation doesn't have to mean being cut off from everything forever, or it wouldn't have possibly joined with us in the first place, let alone tolerated other shards, or our interaction with people up to this point.

The Humanity shard is just the crystallization of that interaction, so it's probably going to take some acclimating to, but it should still be possible to get Isolation to the point where it can at least find some element of Humanity that it can start to learn to tolerate.

<So,> you say to Isolation. <Thanks for your help so far. I feel like we've been through a lot. You've always been loyal, since we met.>

Isolation nods once. It says nothing. Its eyes are still on Humanity.

<Stop staring at me,> Humanity says.

Isolation's green light flickers threateningly. It says nothing.

<He isn't a talkative fellow, is he?>

<It did break protecting me from your fire,> you say. <I'm not surprised he doesn't think highly of you.>

<Well, he'll have to deal with it. We've got bigger fish to fry.>

You glance at Isolation. <Humanity's on our side. Try to keep a level head.>

Isolation's gaze flicks at you, then back to Humanity. He really isn't very emotive, but you get a certain feeling of...temporary acquiescence.

>you decide on the right hallway

<Let's go this way. I think we should save that chained door for last.>

<Probably a good idea,> Humanity says.

You walk down the right-hand hall and eventually reach the statue. Your small party of the two shards, yourself, and wisp, gather in front of it.

<...what now?> Humanity says aloud.

<My touch worked last time. Maybe again?> You reach out and brush the statue.

Black power flares. The neck stretches up, and yawns. <I have company.>

<...so...which one are you?> Humanity asks.

<I'm more interested in who the hell you are. What's with that fire?>

<I'm Humanity. I'm new.>

<...right.> The head of the statue looks back at you. <Silence, of course. It's about time you got here.>

<...we need to escape this place,> you say. <I think I need your help to open the door back there.>

<That a fact?> The statue smiles. <How about a game?>

<What sort of game?>

<The rules are simple,> it says. <Answer all my riddles correctly, and I'll help you. Get them wrong, and I blow you up and take command of this little show.>

You can practically feel Humanity raise an eyebrow. <You've got nowhere to run, this time. We'll smash you to pieces.>

Suggest that we will come back later after securing Hunger, and see how Silence reacts.

Silence obviously wants to be in charge, but it will probably realize that if we leave it here to fight Hunger and Hunger defeats us, there's next to no chance Silence will be able to battle-of-wits Hunger to death, since it will just go NOPE and eat him.

Maybe the threat of potentially losing full control to Hunger will make him want to sweeten the pot a little, if only by offering to cut the riddle contest slightly shorter than he would have otherwise.

>>
>>26182688

Well shit, there's a lot of things that could apply to. A mountain?
>>
>>26182624
I mean, speaking from a metagame perspective, we're going to have to say the answers to the riddles when we propose them, which means SM knows all the answers in advance. This means he either chooses an arbitrary point at which Silence fails to answer our riddles, or has to make a judgement about what kind of riddle Silence would fail to get, and unless we came up with something that fits that mold, we're just stuck.

>>26182668
>There is always the chance that he can make this mystically binding in some way, or gain power from our failing.
This is probably a bad idea; despite the fact that he could easily throw a tantrum and refuse to submit when we win, we could also LOSE the riddle contest, and making it magically binding would keep us from resisting HIS control.

I like our odds better in [win, potential combat; loss, definite combat] than in [magically binding win; magically binding loss]

>>26182740
>>26182743
>>26182742

Statue seems too easy for me, given how Silence IS a statue right now. let's brainstorm first before we commit.
>>
>>26182688
That can apply to a lot of things so I'm going to assume the mentioning of feet as a possibly important notation. Soul and will are also important, and it probably has to do with something that would seem to have that but doesn't.
>>
>>26182774

Gargoyle?
>>
>>26182793
Not alone, gargoyles are usually built together along a building.
>>
>>26182793
Gargoyles can move and can have wills sometimes.
>>
>>26182774

The fact that it uses "soul" and "will" in the description makes me think that we're going for something that looks like something animate but cannot move on its own. Which fits a statue. The "alone" part of the description probably also relates back to how Silence views himself (funny, because we already have Isolation) in terms of not trusting anyone else, and the fact that he has assumed the shape of a statue here.

Am I overthinking things?
>>
>>26182830
no, no, we're in a riddle game with a puzzlemaster like SM. it's par for the course to overthink.
>>
>>26182774

>I stand alone
A statue stand in his own.
>My feet are still
It doesn't move
>I have no soul
>I have no will
It lacks those things.

Unless someone could argue against a statue being the answer. We can call on silence on his bullshit for making his riddle something generic.

><What am I?>

>>
>>26182830
A riddle is metaphorical so it wouldn't be difficult to believe it relates back to the guy who made it. The issue here is why would he pick the form of something(assuming he could've picked it) that he deems not to have a soul or will?

The best thing is, the answer could easily be a statue.

And if we say the answer is "a statue" and Silence tries to argue, we can tell him that the question he asked was "What am I?", and if he would kindly take a look, that's EXACTLY what he is, and if he wants to keep making his riddles so darn vague, we will be perfectly happy to continue answering "A statue" to all of his future riddles and being correct on a technicality.
>>
>>26182936

And he has assumed the shape of a statue

It still works
>>
I think statue is the right track but it may be too broad? Is there some kind of specific statue that this riddle would more adequately describe? A stature could be considered to have a soul in the artistic sense, same with a will depending on it's purpose.

Fitting because we're reading Silence here like an open book. I'm thinking all these riddles relate to how he thinks of himself. You consider the riddle.

...a painting?

No. A story. But stories can be spoken aloud...

<A book,> you say.

Silence grits its teeth. <...correct.>

Isolation's stare increases in intensity. <Should have thought twice about your clever little game,> Humanity says.

<There's still one more!> Silence says. But you can tell it's been rattled.

<I waver in the sky,

A cloud casts a shadow. The Moon does. A Rainbow doesn't.

>>
>>26183456
Woah, wait a second...

Wavering in the sky, implying that it is always there but also always at risk of dissapearing

A beam of inspiration, so it can inspire people to... do what?

A sun to those who follow, which could mean that those who follow it consider it a sun, but a different interpretation might read it as "those who follow it will find the sun"

A cloud to those who don't, when taken in the context of the above line as I've laid it out, means that those who do not follow it and find the sun are left behind under the "cloud", or darkness.

Guys, answer is the Horizon.

The cloud bit with respect to the rainbow answer refers to the stormclouds that caused the rainbow.

Going in the direction of the rainbow would mean clear skies, while the other way would be the storm that left it behind.

Alright.

Whatever it is, it wavers. That's set.

What ever it is, it inspires, that is set. It inspires regardless of who sees it.

Those who follow it see it like the sun, those who turn on it see it like a cloud.
>>
>>26183750
I'm not in favor of "the moon" as the answer to this riddle, so don't ask me.

I feel like we need to clarify whether "who follow" refers to "people who go in the direction of ~thing~" or "people who are devotees of ~thing~".

Pretty sure the former is more likely, but people keep trying to imply that it is saying the latter.
>>
>>26183760
the Moon reflects the suns light, but makes none itself. like how shadows need the light in order to be cast
>>
>>26183768

That's just what he wants you to think.
>>
>>26183790
SM, can we get clarification on this? this would help a lot.
>>
>>26183590

Actually the horizon wavers in the sky thanks to mountains and hills.

The horizon is a source of inspiration.

And a sun to those who follow could be interpret as a direction or destination.

And A cloud to those who don't. Could mean that the hills or mountains in the horizon are on the way to the destination (sun) the same way a cloud is in the way of the sun.
>>
>>26183810
The lack of clarity is part of the riddle.
>>
>>26183790

Why can't it be both?

>>
>>26183786
the moon/night wavers as it is only temperary
night inspires art and music, like how day inspires cheery bright stuff night inspires darker stuff
then i see it as those who follow the moon or the shadow see it as their sun, while light sees the moon and night blocking the day
>>
>>26183815

The horizon may look different but there's still a definite line that you can point to and say "that's the horizon".
>>
>>26183810

>>
>>26183839

>>
>>26183857

Yeah, this.

Moon works maybe on a thematic sense considering who we are, but Rainbow is the only one so far that explicitly involves sun AND clouds in its formation, and fits the wavering part more exactly since it wavers as the light refracts through the water.

It's an illusion, and yet it inspires people anyways. It can also inspire different things, depending on how you look at it you are either facing the clouds or the sun. You are either moving out of the storm, or into it.

Silence bursts out laughing. <A rainbow? What?>

<It doesn't fit all the clues,> Silence says. It grins at you. <Who /doesn't/ follow a rainbow? Rainbows move with you. And why would a rainbow be a cloud to anyone?>

You fall quiet. He has a point.

<You've got one more try, at least,> Silence says. <Don't give up on me now.>

Humanity huddles close. <What other ideas did you have?>

<...moon seems really likely, too,> you say. <It's rather like a sun for us. Possibly...the horizon? Or maybe an eclipse?>

Flag fits better thematically with the other answers we've been giving, so that's why I feel better about it. It fits in with the general picture of Silence that we've been getting. He dislikes not having a will or a voice of his own when he's bound to us, and doesn't want to be involved with our little crusade. It also fits with why he's so set on usurping our control and taking over.

>so proud right now /tg/, for a moment I thought you were fucked

------------
------------

You snap your shadow fingers in realization.

<A flag!>

Silence's mouth opens, closes, then opens. <...correct.>

You all stand there for a long moment.

<You win,> Silence says. It seems resigned.

The statue of the man-headed lion vanishes. The wall it rested against disappears, revealing a hidden room filled with a grey mist.

Silence steps from the grey smoke. A silver key dangles from his hand. <...lead on.>

You narrow your eyes. That felt...too quick.

<No tricks,> Silence says. It throws the key in the air. You quickly snatch it. <Let's go.>

I kind of like this plan. Maybe don't lean quite so hard on him at the outset, but at least broach the subject and let him know that even if it's in his nature to speak in riddles, sometimes there's a time and a place to leave subterfuge by the wayside.

There's no better way to get what you want from someone who might actually be willing than actually asking outright, after all.

You walk back down the hall toward the central chamber. You sidle up to Silence.

<...were those riddles trying to tell me something?>

<...hmph.>

<It sounds like you want independence,> you say.

<Considering I was beaten down and dragged along without a say...that isn't far from the mark. But your might makes you right.>

<I would prefer to work together as partners.>

<You subsumed me for trying to do what was necessary for my own survival,> Silence said.

<You were trying to eat children.>

<Human children are a dime a dozen.>

<You need to change your attitude if we're going to do this.>

<I'm not interested in changing who I am to suit your personal agenda to make the world a better place,> Silence says. <Your priorities couldn't be more backwards.>

<...suit yourself.>

<I will.>

Humanity drifts up to you as Silence takes his space. <You tried.>

<So I did.>

You reach the chained door.

<Why is it chained up?> you ask Silence.

You open the chained door.

One padlock falls. But before you can open any of the others, they start to click and clack, one after another. They drop to the floor. Metal clangs into the slate floor. The chains slacken, and fall limp.

The doors grind open.

Darkxis twitches a bit, then settles back and nods. <Mmm. Get out. Then eat?>

<Right. We get out, then eat.>

<Eat. Eat!>

You exchange a long glance with Humanity. Even Silence looks at Darkxis sideways. Isolation, as always, stares silently.

<Let's go back, then,> you say.

-------
-------

You return to the central chamber, keeping on eye on Darkxis the whole time. Humanity has wisely taken up a position behind him, just in case. Darkxis seems a bit to...distracted, to notice.

The massive door of marble, steel, and black slate looms above you. The three slots seem to resonate as your shards reach the final platform. The gears of the dark machine thunder through the quiet.

<...step up,> you say.

They do so. Each of them reaches out and puts a limb on the slot...all at the same time, without a word. You don't question it. Sometimes, instinct can be a strong guide.

The machinery stops.

The long, rusty shift of the doors echoes through the room. They open, and stay there. The silence is complete.

<...let's go,> you say. You lead the way through and into the darkness beyond.

You're in a perfectly square chamber made of stone brick. The brick itself is a prism of off-colors, as if oily magic had seeped through the grout.

The door slams shut behind you.

Standing in the center of the room is a dark figure wearing a long black cloak and plates of armor that bristle with Shadow. Crescent moons adorn his helmet and several long chains that hang from his clothing.

<Do you know who I am?> the armored figure asks.

As Flint might say...you've already taken a wild guess. <You are Temerity.>

<Exactly,> Temerity says. <And you...you are weak, and corrupted.>

<...you'll have to give me more than that.>

The armored figure shifts. <You talk like a human. You think like a human, -feel- like a human. Do we seem human, to you? You have forgotten our mission; you have ignored our directive.>

The other members of your party seem cowed before this ominous figure. You step forward. <What mission?> you ask.

<To reunite,> Temerity says solemly. <Like you, I am a but a fragment of the whole. But I can explain, somewhat. Our goal was simple: to regain our full power. Originally, we split ourselves into shards because compartmentalizing our powers lent greater efficiency. In sealing the four 'greater' elementals, we went further. We cracked the binds of darkness holding the shards together, unleashing the energy of those bonds in one single moment. Our recovery has taken over 700 years, but we have finally coelesced.>

<...then we are Erebus,> you say. <We sealed the greater elementals by destroying ourselves, but planned our return all along. This is part of his plan.>

<Indeed. And it is long past time that we move toward its final completion.>

You know how the elementomachy happened so long ago? The original story was more like that...just crazy war and destruction. But it swiftly evolved as the players decided to take the high road, influenced by Abigail and Flint. The story you might have played became history - literally. It became the backdrop for the Venia of now.

The first novel I ever wrote was rather similar. It took place ~750 years in the future from present, so I came up with 750 years of human history to get to the point I wanted the story to start at.

Silence wants to be free to follow his own whims; Temerity wants everything to follow The Plan. Silence doesn't exactly like our "rule" over him, but compared to being a pawn of Absolute Order, I'm pretty sure he'll choose us every time.

That said, Darkxis might be in favor of what Temerity is proposing, seeing as part of the plan is disposing of the three remaining elemental lords, which would probably be some mighty fine eatin'.

>I want to get it, but we should hold action on that particular purchase until after Temerity so we have the 19 exp for reaction during the fight.

It's only 8 exp AND it will let us see how much exp we need to complete the water tree.
>>
I think Adavan / Flint at least deserve to know what's up with us. We can save the more unsavory details, but I think they should know how deep this shit is.

Being a powerful shadow elemental opposed to the current power is one thing, its another level of deep shit entirely to be Erebus reboot.
>>
>>26185988
8 EXP will prevent us from getting 12 or 15 exp upgrades should we need them, and there is utterly no way tidal force could become useful because there is no water nearby.

If it was a nonconditioal spell i would be much more inclined to agree, but the restriction means that in this fight there is no way it could assist us.

I'm fine and happy with getting it afterwards.
>>
>>26185975
Hey SM, why should we deny Temerity's plan?

>The other members of your party seem cowed before this ominous figure. You step forward. ><What mission?> you ask.
><To reunite,> Temerity says solemly.

I see no such thing, only Temerity wanting us to regain our full power.

Remember that Temerity isn't a shard; it's an aspect of ourself just like humanity.
>>
>>26186054
Possibly darkness within, if things go horribly wrong for us and he gets the three shards on his side.

It still doesn't warrant putting 8 exp into a power that will be of no use during the fight, not even as a stepping stone, that we can unlock just as easily afterwards.
>>
Man, I'd just like to get those high-end abilities like Void Ring and Eclipse.

We rely on so many passive things like Shiva and our resistances. Nightblaze here and there. I'd like to have something truly astonishing so that it feels like we're a power to be reckoned with, not an elemental with more-than-average strength.
>>
>>26186103
It's because the last good chunk of Exp Shadow got was during the assault on Jung Mansion, which is what, 7 threads ago or more? We haven't gotten shit since then.
>>
>tfw want to get Eclipse
>tfw there's no way we ever will
Feels bad...
>>
>>26186103
>more-than-average strength.

We have positively -monstrous- strength, not just above average.
And it doesn't cost us anything. We don't have to worry about getting to the next mana pool because we always have our strength to fall back on.
>>
>>26186067
Darkness Within, Fast Blink, and Army of Darkness could all be useful in the fight.

I don't get the obsession with unveiling the water magic magic power. But then I'm not terribly enthused by hydra as a goal anyway.
>>
>>26186099
He wants to go along with Erebus' plan. He may not have said it himself but that eventually means killing everything.
>>
>>26186136
>>26186130
>>26186103
Brace yourselves brothers, for the age of magic will soon be upon us! Getting MP4 will surely grant us magic regen which will mean that people will stop vetoing grabing magical abilities!
>>
I bet a Magic Power branches off of Eclipse. It would make sense to have one at the high end of a magic tree instead of having every single MP at the low end of the trees.
>>
>>26186157
Personally. I'm not interested in Hydra either. I just want to start finishing the skill trees we started for the bonuses.
>>
>>26186160
Leaping to conclusions.

The worse that could happen is that he is the personification of the Anti-Waifufags just like SM said in the previous thread.
>>
>>26186173
If we vote to buy Ray of Darkness and Cone of Destruction right now, even the people who don't much care for magic couldn't resist spending the next 15xp on Void Ring.

The two 7xp abilities are the thing blocking most people from getting to Eclipse.
>>
>>26185865
I'm up for buying it.
>>
>>26186211
>He tries to tempt us with visions of power we'll gain by consuming abby
>he loses before he even finishes his sentence
>>
>>26186157
It's so we don't have a 25exp block in the path of getting to mighty regen, which ups regen speed and the softcap on our max hp.

Hydra gives us partial invincibility, which given that it is not the last thing on the tree, suggests that it will expand further.

There is also the promise of filling out the center darkness eventually, with whatever that grants.

>>26186218
Those probably wouldn't do much for us in this fight either. Shadow magic vs shadows isn't exactly great.
>>
>>26186218
>If we vote to buy Ray of Darkness and Cone of Destruction right now, even the people who don't much care for magic couldn't resist spending the next 15xp on Void Ring.
Do you honestly believe that would happen WHEN PEOPLE DON'T EVEN WANT TO BUY SUMMONING 1 THAT ONLY COST 2 HOLY SHIT I'M STILL MAD THINKING ABOUT IT
>>
>>26186254
Summoning a shit.
>>
>>26186254
>WHEN PEOPLE DON'T EVEN WANT TO BUY SUMMONING 1 THAT ONLY COST 2 HOLY SHIT I'M STILL MAD THINKING ABOUT IT

B-but mah mp, we can't be using summons until we can regain 10 mp per turn!
>>
>>26186218
That's not true of me. I actually like those two 7exp abilities more than void ring itself. I'm holding off due to mana limits.

>>26186173
Could be we need MP5 actually.

>>26186195
I'd be more interested in Spirit in that case.
>>
>>26186218
What did I say, here come the anti-magic faggots
>>26186266
>>26186277
>>
>>26186254
Summoning just has bad synergy with our build.

We use aoe antimagic constantly. And we move faster than most summons sill be able to.
>>
Except that summoning 1 won't do anything unless we started working our way along the summoning tree, which would take a long time to get to the equivalent power that we have in personal attack.

>>26186281
If it's just completing a magic tree that you want, water gets you that and movement toward other goals too.

Even without hydra, mighty regen is amazing, if only because it lets us have a higher "resting HP"
>>
>>26186297
I love magic. I hate summoning.
>>
>>26186254
I'd rather not get into summoning, since it's confirmed to be a bit dangerous and we don't need to be starting another tree when we could be finishing ones. Besides, we've got allies that can summon. Abby particularly is pretty much bred to be the ultimate summoner
>>
>>26186337
>Abby particularly is pretty much bred to be the ultimate summoner
dat pedigree

So, Erebus broke himself up via SM butchering the laws of thernodynamics for energy to defeat the four elementals, concluding phase 1 of Erebus's plan. Next, come back together in one whole and DESTROY THE WORLD. One shard got sympathetic with a little girl though, unraveling the plan.
>>
Honestly, no EXP purchases are going to be made now.

Most people, possibly including SM have gone to sleep, and there is nothing resembling a consensus here.

There is no good reason to sink exp before the fight starts, doing so would only restrict us.
I've said it before and i will say it again, the only reason to try and slip in buys at the tail end of the thread it to circumvent rational purchasing and enforce what -You- want over practicality or consensus.
>>
>>26186195

So when are we finally getting Tao?
>>
>>26186157
>I don't get the obsession with unveiling the water magic magic power.

Its more that, eventually, we want to complete the water tree because we're so close to it.

If we buy MP4 from earth, it sets back water tree completion by 25 xp - since there probably is one in that tree, and the cost scales.
However, I'm also in the 'hydra is meh' bandwagon.

>>26186101
>Possibly darkness within, if things go horribly wrong for us and he gets the three shards on his side.

>>26186025
>8 EXP will prevent us from getting 12 or 15 exp upgrades should we need them, and there is utterly no way tidal force could become useful because there is no water nearby.

Its really nice to see people being smart about xp spending, though. Saving is the correct answer.
>>
>>26186384
>the only reason to try and slip in buys at the tail end of the thread it to circumvent rational purchasing and enforce what -You- want over practicality or consensus.
Or because we want to actually have plot happen during the thread and not shitty xp arguments. It used to be that we did xp spending at the end of threads. Maybe if you care enough about what people spend xp on, you can stay an extra 30 mins.
>>
>>26186350
>One shard got sympathetic with a little girl though, unraveling the plan.

More like fell in love. You also kind of really downplayed Elf Queen's involvement in this.
>>
>>26186350
>Setting with magic
>Playing a living shadow
>"HURRRRR MUH THURMODYNAMICS"
>>
>>26186421
Still no reason to spend on something right now.

Anything we may need for the fight we can get during it; We bought shadow blast right at the moment we needed it during the fight with the robots because we had exp banked. If we have to we can do a similar thing here.

>>26186457
What Erebus did is actually comparable to magical nuclear fission.

And it's flat out stated that magic goes in the opposite direction as thermodynamics, propagating endlessly.
>>
>>26186516
But we didn't buy shadow blast? Check the ability tree.
>>
Soon SM will be coming up with SCIENCE PRINCIPLES to back up all the shit in his world

>implying
>>
>>26186545
We did buy it. Still don't have Cone of Darkness or Shadow Bomb, though.
>>
>>26186516
I'm liking the looks of Fast blink as a likely ability to save our bacon with. Side bonus of it unlocking things.
>>
>>26186564
If our bacon needs to be saved, then we can buy it for the saving. otherwise we should save, so we can keep working on what we have been after we are out of this situation.
>>
>>26186556
I guess I got confused.
>>
>>26186599
Absolutely. Just reviewing things in case we need it.
