The time has come to lead the noble Sky Sons into legend and glory, friends. Gather around the speaking stone, and show us the wisdom that will make our tribe into kings of Dragon Pass. It's only by your might and your leadership that we will succeed against enemy tribes, evil monsters, and the very land itself. Come, and see the tale unfold before you of the Sky Sons!

>What is King of Dragon's Pass, you weird person?

King of Dragon's Pass is a PC game from 2000. In King of Dragon's Pass, or KoDP, you play as a single tribe of celt/nordic bronze age warriors as they settle, colonize, tame, and eventually dominate a foreign land. In this version of /tg/ Plays, I'll run the game for you all, and I'll carry out the actions that you tell me to in the game, then report back with the results. You can be a part of the complete victory or tragic defeat of a tribe made by /tg/ itself, the Sky Sons!

When we last left the Sky Sons, things were in somewhat poor shape. Despite having Humakt's favor in the form of the Truesword blessing, they had taken a few defeats from their hated foes and others out in Dragon Pass. And now, upon us, is Earth Season, the time of harvesting the grains that will feed us through the coming cold.

Raiding during this time is folly, so we are safe from retaliation now. The question now is: what should we do with the time before us? We have magic given to Heroquests, and some wish to continue to venerate the God of Death by retelling his story. Our coffers are thin and our knowledge of the lands around us poor as well; much needs to be done to restore the Sky Sons to the glory that they deserve.
>>
We must explore our own during earth, and preform our quest during the Dark.

Or, if we have excesses or favors owed to us we can commit to attempting to form more trade.

Ultimately we must cease to be short sighted and stop over-focusing on raiding. We have hardly even begun our clan, we can't commit to total warfare until we build our markets, build our fortifications, and learn the plowsong ritual, rituals of healing, and rituals of the sun, earth, and rain in order to allow our farmers to grow bountiful amounts of food even with injuries.

Military strength comes from long term economic strength, anyone who disagrees is a fool.

Next year we must set up trade routes.

The success enjoyed by Ernaldess last season encourages a few more warriors to travel with her around the tula. She's prepared to do more study and investigation, with your blessing.

Favors to us are few and far between; only the Blackrocks, Oak Trees, and Ogosi are in our debt. We owe favors to thrice as many tribes over. I also fear because of the omens given to us this year; next year, with fruitful magic, trade and diplomacy may yet flourish.
>>
>>26195299
We are nowhere near strong enough to preform a hostage raid, and doing so is a short term boost. Raiding endlessly for supplies is not sustainable in of itself. Injuries catch up and eventually we will starve.

Once we get a good agricultural base it becomes possible, and once we get ourselves a market by creating trade routes, we will passively gain trade goods in addition to whatever we take, allowing us to war with much better results, for we will not depend utterly and totally on having multiple raids launched each year.

Also having a raid based economy hurts our magic terribly and some of our gods actively wish us to have periods of peace.
>>
>>26195368
Explore the the Quivin Mountains.

We settle in the Quivini plains and yet have ignored its namesake.
>>
>>26195373
And some gods wish for us to remember our war arts and our war magic will suffer if we launch none. Do we not now know the Truesword Blessing? Are we not planning to reenact the ways of Grim Humakt himself come Dark?

We are a clan of balance, not peace and violence is always an option.
>>

Tread carefully; Ernaldess has come across the lair of a large wyrm nesting up in the mountains. Kenstrel seems particularly convinced that he can make friends with the gargantuan beast and ferret out some of its treasure, while others which to slay the monster and take what it has. Our lorekeepers say neither action will offend our ancestors, since they were indifferent towards dragonkind.

However, less pleased are a band of trollkin bearing down on the tula! We're outnumbered, even with the might of our Truesword-bearing thanes, and have no magic to call upon to blast them away. How will we defend our lands against these monsters?

Though in the depths of cold and ice, the spirit of our clan is strong. Strong enough, perhaps, to venture into the Godplane and step into the boots of those we venerate.

The council ring's very own Fantarl stands ready to undertake the tale of Humakt the Champion, or one of our brighter mages, Korlaman, could recreate the defense of the homestead that our patron god, Elmal, performed. Which quest should we undertake, fellows?

Also, 100th screenshot, yaaaay!
>>
>>26196417
Clearly, we need to improve our defences. How can we even dream of raiding if our foes can walk straight into our homesteads.
>>
>>26196471
Send our Humakti to gain a treasure for us.
>>
>>26196471

What benefits do these quests give, respectively?
>>
>>26196505
We can chose. Sometimes you might wish to quest to gain temporary defense against an ancient enemy. You may also quest to ward off bad omens, or in response to events in the world. Some quests make things much easier to do that year.

The most powerful rewards from a quest are ones that grant us relics, followed by ones that empower the taker of the quest, for they last forever. A strong stockpile of relics is what makes a clan mighty and worthy, for they are the true measure of our power. However, if many of the clan are sick, it would be foolish to quest for relics rather than to quest to have all our ill healed at once for instance.
>>
>>26196505

By showing deference to Elmal, we could strengthen our defenses, gain horses, strengthen either Korlaman or all our nobles, protect us against chaos, or give confidence to our thanes.

Or by walking Humakt's path, we could gain powerful tools of war, defend against the walking dead, inspire our warriors, or strengthen Fantarl.
>>
>>26196557
And all quests have a secondary effect. For instance, for three years after doing the Humakt Heroquest, five of our warriors will fight with the strength of Six.
>>
>>26196557

In that case, Elmal's quest would seem the most logical, we need more defences against invaders.
>>
>>26196598

Completing both Elmal's quest and Humakt's quest will make our warriors more powerful in battle afterwards, though our quester will try to receive something specific while in the Godplane. That is what differs between the quests.

>>26196493
>>26196598

Valensta sets out to the Wolves in order to test their allegiance to us. There are rumblings within the clan saying if they refuse us once more, they're not to be trusted further.

However, our troubles are not yet over. Despite their improved mood, the weaponthanes have been struck with some sort of malady that makes training and practice impossible. How should we free our warriors of this plague?

Without much divine favor to call upon, the clan forgoes a divination and instead asks shamans to remove this malady from our people. They demand some cows (which Arene manages to actually bargain down this time), and our warriors are cured. The shamans claim that this plague was the doing of malevolent ghosts, but many still wish to blame the Vostangs for it.

We now only have a dozen warriors on-hand to defend us, but more pressing is the matter of this apparent Secret Murder. The sun shines down upon the our tula, warming it as we spend magic into the reawakening world. We aren't blessed with a lot to spend, but what we do, we hope brings us good fortune this year.

We're not cursed this year, like the last, but instead, we're challenged by Orlanth and Issaries: it seems they want us to increase the size of our herd. It is a bit thin, what with the sacrifices we've made lately. If we can accumulate more cows this year, they will offer us blessings; if we lose too many, they will curse us.

So, fellow god-talkers, how much magic should we keep in reserve before we spend it all away? A bit here or there in case of raids is always wise. Once we've decided how much we want to keep, we'll decide how much to spend in other places.

Sorry, my internet's been slow and the thread didn't update in time. I'm sorry.

And now the planting season is upon us. The more bloodthirsty of our clan wish to raid clan Vostang right now, their rage sharpened by the death of Olkensor. A full raid is almost completely out of the question unless we wish to starve, however. More peaceful activities (or simply sneaky ones, in the case of a cattle raid) are a lot more likely.

Enastarra, it seems, has completely forgotten the words of the God-talkers this season, while Kenstrel actually speaks wisdom. Several fear for their lives at this turn of events. Many advocate for the selling of our horses for cattle; with a skilled Bargainer, fine Elmalian horses could bring in many cows at market. We'll have to wait for Valensta for that, though.

What should we do in the meantime, however? Kulbrast wisely points out that we don't even have a temple to Issaries at this point; perhaps invoking his favor could bring us more riches.

I'm glad you're invested in this, TUS, I really am, and that you want to see the Sky Sons succeed.

Raiding is fun as shit if you can pull it off. And if you can avoid doing it literally every year. We can't seem to do either, which is why its probably best just to not entertain the idea this year, because its going to end the game at this point. Clan magic is amazingly weak, you lack any real defensive structures, you are still at the shitty tier 1 market, everyone either hates you, dislikes you, or doesn't care about you, you only have one of the special crafting items, morale is trash, no quests have been completed yet, there are not enough shrine bonuses to sustain the fields if people are injured nor do you have most of the combat boosting rewards, you haven't cleared your tula of predators yet, you lack the land for farms and hunters, your earth magic is trashed utterly, and you are low on weaponthanes. Sure, you should try to be democratic but maybe don't let certain segments of people you are doing a LP with drive the playthrough into the dirt amazingly quickly. After a few years the clan should be growing with minor wax and wane cycles rather than outright dying like it is.

>>26199959
I was saying people are crying to raid EVERY raid season. Meaning that we are over raiding. Combined with having done absolutely nothing to increase sustainability, that means the game is over without a drastic 360. Shouting raid raid raid is fun but maybe we should ensure we could actually win those. But if you just want to commit suicide I guess I could just leave the thread. It looks like Ringspeaker is going to let you kill the LP.

>>
>>26200205
Less about only one way to play and only one way to make the way you happened to chose to play not going to result in an immediate game over.

It is totally possible to play the endless war game. You can basically get such momentum through clever raiding that you are able to force out multiple clans.

But that doesn't work if you start trying to raid when your clan is literally about to disperse in the bad end and your unable to win any battles due to morale and magic.

You gotta build your strength in bad times and focus on being able to feast and gift give during the dark to turn the clan morale about and get shit out of the gutter. And gifting is generally superior to feasts due to it not affecting your cows, which is part of why having the ability to expend goods is really important.

In essence, its not the way you are playing, its how you are trying to go about it and when.

>>
>>26200344
Raiding is an excellent strategy early game, assuming you focus only on your neighbor-rival. If successful, you weaken them and enrich yourself. The extra goods can then be used to build fortifications.

On the other side, you can have terrible luck such as we have and lose several battles in a row. You seem to be under the impression everyone wants to raid all the time, but you're mostly pulling it out of your ass. We tried our luck at that for an early lead, and it failed this time and are obviously planning on rebuilding at the moment.

you dont need to make a tribe with that quest though. you can just do it to level up that hero and make everyone happy that we completed a quest. Plus its a easy quest to complete

We can afford a Stake Perimeter, but not a wooden stockade or a stone wall.
>>
>>26201081
Yes, but if you put it off you can stall tribe-forming indefinitely. If you do it, you can end up having to make a tribe before you're ready, possibly dooming yourself.
>>
>>26201100
Hmmm... The stake perimeter will help a lot against the horsespawn, but a wooden stockade is probably better. We're close to being able to afford it as well.
>>
>>26201144
>We're close to being able to afford it as well.

Assuming we aren't raided and lose our goods.

So, what do you all want to do with the rest of Fire Season?

Perhaps just guard the cows that we do have?
>>
>>26201241
I can't really think of anything that won't endanger us.
>>
>>26201241
explore our tula?

Ernaldess is once more convinced to make an exploration of our lands, assuring her that there are yet more riches to be discovered.

Though the fact that she comes back with naught shakes such notions. Perhaps future explorations should range a little farther from home, if all the resources around us are already claimed.
>>
>>26201404
Ridiculous, I know there is more on our tula. Perhaps move the location around on it.

An envoy of Humakti come back with Ernaldess. They don't want our sword-arms this time, thankfully; instead, they merely want permission to hunt around our tula for the walking dead. Some want to give them gifts in order to curry favor with the grim servants, but other say we are simply too poverty stricken to do too much else. What does the ring say?
>>
>>26201445
Give them permission. I wish we could do more, but we can't afford it.

Their hunting of the undead goes well, and many foul creatures are destroyed by their blades. The tula rejoices, thankful that these threats are removed from us. The ring is glad that the Humakti do not demand more of us as well, since we have so little to give.

With the Humakti leave the hot days as Fire Season turns to Earth Season. Many of the clan are out in the fields pulling in the crops now, and do not think of raids or violence amongst other clans. While the bulk of the clan is harvesting, what should we seek? Perhaps now is a good time to call upon our favors and fatten our herds?
>>
>>26201656
We should go to war
>>
>>26201683

Many of the clan will likely disagree with you, but if that is what the Sky Sons desire, so shall it be.
>>
>>26201656
Dem favors man, dem favors.

Ask for less than is customary to bolster our relations. We need people to hate us marginally less.
>>
>>26201683
Naw man, naw.

>>26201656
Try to call in some favors.

Valensta wishes to return to the Wolves first, in order to hopefully better our relations with them. Does the clan ring have any objections to this?
>>
>>26201875
Indeed. Good luck to her.

It seems trouble has a way to find the Sky Sons; as Valensta makes her way to Wolf territory, she's stopped by the Osgosi. She's slightly outnumbered; many of the fyrd are too busy working the fields. She's all right at combat, but her silver tongue is her greatest gift. How should she avoid these interlopers?
>>
>>26202057
How is her combat?
>>
>>26202057
Her bargaining is likely her best stat.

She is not a full-time warrior, but she can defend herself. Good.

>>26202057

With the use of her insight and acumen, she convinces the Osgosi that she has nothing to take, and they allow her into Wolf territory unopposed. Though, once she gets there, the clan is hurting so much for cattle that she cannot bear to take less than the customary amount; not wishing to tax the Wolves too much, though, she takes the standard score, replacing the losses that the Blue Spruces inflicted upon us. There is hope yet that we can satisfy Issaries and Orlanth.

=======================

And I think I'm going to call it a night here, guys. Things may not have gone the best for the Sky Sons, but things might start looking up for us. I'll be back at 7PM EST (1800 4chan time) on Thursday to run this again for you all. Perhaps then we can get back on track to becoming the King of Dragon Pass!
>>
>>26202252

That's 6PM EST, my bad. 'tis late where I am.
>>
>>26202252
Fucking hell, what a shitty year.
