Guess what tiem it is /tg/!That's right, Storytiem!>Background: Recently finished a game, GM decided to begin another game. He claimed it was a Halo Homebrew. Well, previous game was fun, so I joined.>4 other players, who will be known as Elite, Engineer, 'Splodee and That Guy.>Elite makes an Elite, rolls for pretty awesome melee. His skills with a gun were so pathetic that he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, but he had a plasma sword, so that didn't matter.>Engineer rolled a Engineer, eventually becoming dedicated Skill Monkey, with awesomesauce repair, upgrade, maintenance and hacking abilities. No skills in combat, so he was about as useless as a sack of paper there.>'Splodee made a Grunt. This Grunt was an expert in explosions. Hilarity ensued.>That Guy... Well, he started with a Brute. >Me: Hey, GM, can I play as a Hunter?>GM: Sure.>Now playing as Hunter. Yay.Alright, you want to hear it or not?
Sure. Do you just hang out as a pile of orange worms most of the time, and when it's time to fight normal sized things suit up like the first scene in Pacific Rim?
>>26208662this is /tg/. what do you think?
Hunters are just a plain interesting race.
>>26208694Now I'm imagining the Hunter armor up in a gantry, little worms working all over it to get it ready to fight.
BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR BROOOOOOOOTHERRRRRRR?!
>>26208694Nope. I was always a hulking engine of destruction. With a Plasma Cannon.>>26208710Here we go!>Alright, setting of the game is that a Forerunner Artifact has been detected on some random planet. Problem is, Humans colonised this planet a while ago. Prophets have ordered that the Humans be cleansed immediately, with minimal damage to the Artifact.>Guess who gets the honor.> That's right, us.>Anyway, we're being gathered, along with a bunch of other strike teams, to go and kill everything that isn't Covenant. Subtlety isn't important.> Now being a Mgalekgolo, I get a bigass Plasma Cannon. I was set for the rest of the campaign.>Our characters meet IC, we're on our way a couple hours later.Cont.
>>26208662halt combat sequences by standing up, clearing your throat and reciting hour long battle poems. do this on a roll of 4+
>>26208742It'll come.>>26208801>Alright, team meeting time. Ideas and strategy go round. That Guy suggests we walk in and kill everything. And then rape the remains. And then eat the remains. In that order.>'Splodee disagrees. He decides that the best way to clear everything out is to strap explosives to everything.>Engineer... just sort of floats around, not really doing anything. Engineer is only with us because we're going to a Forerunner Artifact. Well, that and the Prophets don't trust us to not damage it.>Elite declares that he'll stab everything with his sword. That was basically the extant of his battle strategies.>I can't talk, so nobody really gives a fuck about me. I do, however, have a Plasma Cannon. I made a note to use it as early and as often as possible.>Team meeting over, we arrive over the planet a couple hours later. Here, the team runs into the first problem, namely that the atmosphere isn't breathable to 2/5ths of the squad.>Look at all the fucks we're not giving. Elite and That Guy put on helmets, they're fine.Cont.
Fucking damnit OP. Update this shit.
>>26208916I like the way your group thinks.
>>26208916>OOC: Me: "Wait, how did the Humans colonise this planet then?">OOC: GM: "Underground, sealed domes.">IC: We get into a Dropship, when Elite finally realises that there isn't a second Hunter with us.>OOC: Elite: "Wait, don't Hunters always come in pairs?">OOC: GM: "Only hunters that have split into 2. OP hasn't.">Incidentally, that means I'm massive, even compared to other Hunters. My CON was through the damn roof.>Finally, we make planetfall. About twelve seconds later, a network of ground based Mass drivers rips our Frigate to shreds. Burning wreckage proceeds to scatter all over the planet.>Oh shit moments all round.> Finally, we're on the ground. And our first test of combat aren't to far awayCont.
Be swift OP.
>>26209016... He's gonna split mid-combat isn't he.
>>26209016> Alright, we're on the ground. Now, we have to make our way to several probably highly fortified sealed domes, one entrance to which was moderately far away.> We start walking, Elite, 'Splodee and That Guy's air supply won't last forever.> After a bit of walking, GM states that we see some vague silhouettes up ahead. Elite turns on his cloaking module and goes out to scout. He comes back and tells us that it's just some Humans in sealed armor. Yay, Combat time. > We all start preparing for combat.> Now, here's where 'Splodee gets his name.> 'Splodee promptly proceeds to pull out a few canisters, a plasma grenade and a plasma pistol. He goes ahead and lays them behind a rock where he figure that the Humans will come from, then gets into cover.Cont.
>>26208662Hey, a Halo thread. Was this the /tg/ Halo RPG by any chance?https://docs.google.com/document/d/1319ymvrfKFMm1ZolcQDhkhMcOVIKDASGQ38q7RRoVkY/edit?pli=1
>>26209081Those poor Humans never even knew what hit them.> He pulls out a second plasma pistol, then aims at the grenades and canisters.> Trap set, we wait until the Humans arrive. They get all of .5 seconds to realise that the trap exists before 'Splodee shoots at it with his second Plasma Pistol.> Unfortunately for That Guy, he fails his Bloodlust check. He immediately proceeds to rush directly at the Humans in an attempt to tear them apart.> He reaches them, then 'Splodee's Plasma shot collides with the Plasma Grenade.> Chain Reaction. Plasma Grenade explodes, damaging the canisters and causing them to explode, which then causes the Plasma Pistol to explode.> For the unfortunate shmucks inside the detonation radius, well... they became dead, very, very quickly. Said Unfortunate Shmucks happened to include That Guy.> This of many deaths.Cont.
>>26209079You'd need a second suit of armor
>>26209196> This of many deaths.
>>26209196Well, That Guy went out of the game for a bit as he rerolled a new character, a Jackal with utterly broken skills in sniping.Anyway, from there, a lot of boring stuff happened, until we got to the entrance.Actually, before I go too much further, do you want the entire quest or just the juicy stuff?
>>26209301Give me the juice OP
>>26209301Juicy stuff.>Mfw I want to make a 40k tabletop halo mod after reading this
>>26209301May as well give us all of it. /tg/ demands it
>>26209301The full thing, but feel free to give us the highlight reel first.I can sympathize with EXPLOSIONS and That Guy in a Halo game. Ask about "Blackbook" and the crazy stuff we got up to. (We nearly got blown up by the team's ONI AI, which then followed it up by >I accidentally a planet.)
>>26209326Ah yes, my second favorite character. ONI AI that went rogue, merged with a Forerunner planet-computer, forced the nukes to shunt the planet into hyperspace.

>>26209347> 1.The dice gods have spoken.Full thing it is>>26209301> Alright, so we're just about to arrive at the entrance for the Human dome, when the GM tells me that we've got some incoming enemies from the dome.If you're wondering how we know, it's because Hunters have a neural net about 500 feet around them, which is why they always seem to know where you are in the game.> I prep mah Plasma Cannon. I know where they're coming from, I know where they're going. They round the corner, coming face to face with my Plasma cannon.>GM: Roll for damage.> Nat 20.> Humans vanish under a torrent of plasma. The wall behind them melts, the ground partially turns to glass, and the shot has almost assuredly alerted everybody to our presence. It is now time to kick ass and take names.
>>26209435Shit gets real in a hurry. We have about 3 minutes to set up our defence before we get stormed. Leaving a Hunter quite simply wasn't acceptable, especially since it was so close to one of the entrances to the Dome. Our current area has 1 entrance, a bunch of large rocks and some minor cover. We grab some of the rocks and pile them on top of each other, then put Engineer away into a hiding place that nobody could shoot at. Engineer does his thing and places and Overshield on all of us.> In case you're wondering Hunter + Overshield = all kinds of win.Anyway, Elite activates his cloak, 'Splodee throws down some traps here and there, Engineer just goes further into hiding. Then, hell broke loose. A dozen UNSC Marines with Rocket Launchers and Assault Rifles stormed the entrance. For their troubles, 'Splodee detonates the fuck out of them. Another Squad charges, right into my Plasma Cannon. 1 of them gets lucky, just managing to escape the blast. So, Elite shoves a Plasma Sword through his face.Oh, But it didn't end there.Cont.
>>26209526A third squad tries to shoot Elite, but he manages to combat roll out of the way. They get a beam of Plasma to their face for trying though. Never let anybody tell you otherwise, Plasma Cannons are awesome weapons. So, after that squad, 3 more come before the tide stops for a second. And then the wall explodes.>GUESS WHAT MOTHAFUCKAS, IT'S A TANK!A goddamned Scorpion Tank just shoots right through the fucking wall. Oh shit mode: Engaged.Naturally, being a Hunter, the Tank decides to shoot at more first. Generally, that works. This time however, I was covered by an Overshield projected by Engineer. Getting a lucky roll, the round bounces of my shield. My shield also depletes instantly. A second lucky roll leads to me combat rolling out of the way, just in time for the Scorpion Tank to shoot where I had been a second ago. From there, I played a short game of 'ring around the rosie and dodge the goddamned missiles'. Why was it short? Because 'Splodee chose that moment to be a badass. That motherfucker just jumped on the tank, ignited a plasma grenade and shoved it down the tank's cannon barrel.Cont.
>>26209641Was Splodee screaming:BANZIIIIIIIIIIII!
>>26209641>Tank just shoots right through the fucking wall>the round bounces of my shield>1200pound hunter combat rolling out of the way>grunt just jumped on the tankI'm sorry OP, but this sounds more like a halo-dragon ball crossover.
>>26209680Hunters are fucking durable. With an overshield, you can survive a tank round blast. And haven't you ever seen a hunter jump out the way of a warthog before? Fuckers are agile.
>>26209680Stone wall, more of a rock formation, really.Overshield + an angle will do that. I would absolutely be dead if I didn't have that Overshield.Hunters, for their size, can be extremely nimble. That Grunt was insane. No 2 ways about it.Still, that's a fair opinion.>>26209641Now, let it never be understated what kind of damage a plasma grenade can do. Especially if that grenade is being detonated in a small space. The tank did a good impression of a wraith in that moment, a gigantic burst of plasma exploding out of it's barrel. Unfortunately for it, that wasn't the only way the plasma went. It also went backwards, right into it's ammunition compartment and fuel cells. One does not need to guess what happened next, that tank detonated, probably just as 'Splodee intended. We got out of there a little while later, before heading out to the dome entrance. Of course, combat didn't end there.Cont.
>>26209342Damn. That sounds like a storytime in and of itself.
>>26209707That depends if you're thinking game terms or game universe terms. In-game you could kill 12 hunters by touching them with ghost's wing at 5 km/h. In halo universe (fluff) a hunter would total a charging warthog and at best be somewhat wounded.I have no problem with their durability, but with future tank missle bouncing off like a XVII century cannonball. But that grunt stunt (lol)? They have short, turtle-like legs. How do you expect them running casually up to a tank, jumping on it and somehow shoving a grenade down the barrell (even a human couldn't reach the muzzle while standing on a hull).TL;DR, I quit bitching. Have fun.
>>26209737> In-game you could kill 12 hunters by touching them with ghost's wing at 5 km/hReally? At least in halo 1 you couldn't touch them with ghosts and they had horrifically good reflexes to jump out the way of 'hogs. It's been some time since I played, though.
>>26209737There's a bit more to it than that, what I didn't mention was that 'Splodee jump from one of the rock formations around the area we were in.>>26209726Sometime after we killed the tank, That Guy rejoined the game. For those who didn't get the memo the first time, he was playing a Jackal with ludicrous sniping skills, gained from min-maxing. Anyway, he, and the rest of his squad, are running away from an assload of Marines who'd managed to get the jump on them. Half their squad is dead, Hunter pair included. Apparently, one of the Marines in question had a Spartan Laser. After their squad found us, the Marines came soon after. The difference between the first and the last however, is that the first didn't get a face full of plasma.Turns out, they did have a Spartan Laser. As it also turns out, Plasma Beams are not good for the owner of a Spartan Laser. We killed them dead, managing to avoid most damage thanks to Engineer's Overshields. After that, we head towards the entrance. Oh boy did we have a surprise waiting for us.Cont.
>>26209891Did anyone pick the spartan laser up?
>>26209928>touching filthy human laserspleb
>>26209891What was the surprise? Why, simple. It was fortified to the fuckhouse.Tanks, Marines, Automated Turrets, you name, it was there. We'd be slaughtered if we went in there, plain and simple.>Elite: "Hey wait a second, what happened to all that wreckage from the Frigate?"And with that, we set out to try and find enough wreckage for Engineer to do something useful with. Of course, Engineers don't build weapons, but they can still fix them. After that began a session long sidequest that was utterly boring, besides us finding what we needed. That was really all that happened.Anyway, we managed to salvage a couple Wraiths, a Banshee and some Ghosts. As attempting to use a Banshee or Ghost against a tank was an exercise in futility, we decided to loot all the Wraiths. We had some of That Guy's Squad pilot them, then parked them outside the view range of the defence at the dome entrance. And then, we bombarded the heck out of them.Cont.
>>26209943It has happened in rare cases, usually jackals do it.
>>26209928Jackals aren't actually members of the Covenant but are mercenaries, so they have no qualms about using human weapons if need be but the others find it abhorrent.
>>26209975> jackle lifting a spartan laser> wut.jpg
>>26210096>Can jump over a spartan like it's nothing,>Lifting a spartan laser is too hard>wut.jpg
>>26209958Now, a Wraith's Plasma Mortar, especially when used en masse, will quite happily devastate anything. Tanks are pretty resilient, which is why we targeted them first. Tanks, awesome as they are, do not last very long in the face of combined Plasma barrages from several Wraiths. We just kept bombarding until that area was more glass than rock. Once we were sure that everything over there was deader than dead, Engineer floated up to the door and hacked it open. The door opened to reveal, surprise surprise, another goddamned tank. Unfortunately for it, it's alone against several Wraiths, + us. We bathed it in plasma.Cont.(And it's 2:30 AM. If this is still around tomorrow, I'll finish Storytiem.)
>>26210172Fuck no, OP.You finish what you goddamn start.
>>26210172NO! YOU GET THE FUCK BACK HERE AND FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED YOU FAGGOT!
>>26210172Well fuck.Anyway since this sort of a Halo thread and it's been a while since i played Halo2 i might aswell just ask here.Which side did the Hunters side with during the whole Elite rebellion.I was just wondering because i would think that whatever side has Hunters on their side should really win it rather easily
>>26210446Some joined the Elites, many joined the Brutes. There was a split between a lot of the Covenant, but in the end the Elites were pretty much on their own.
>>26210446Most of them said "fuck you" to the prophets, the ones in Halo 3 are "some" that stayed with the prophets and were subsequently killed.
>>26210446Some stayed with the elites, some stayed with the prophets.BROOOOOOTHER AGAINST BROOOOOOTHER
>>26210446Hunters went with both sides. They're not really sure what to do, being giant colonies of worms that don't really have too abstract of thoughts. And the side that wins is the one with the most ships, not hunters.
Hunters are awsome. They fuck shit up and are known to randomly stop and start reciting war poetry at times. They also eat Forerunner alloys and shit.
>>26210566>being giant colonies of worms that don't really have too abstract of thoughts. But that's wrong. Basically the larger a colony is the smarter it gets. A large colony could be used as the soul operators of fuck massive covenant war machines that otherwise required a crew.
>>26210566Hunters were rather neutral, they only really joined the covenant due to being on the other end of a plasma rifle anyway.
>>26210637>HARVESTERS.jpgholy fuck are those things horrifying
>>26210653Actually the elites were losing to them and the arbiter at the time suggested befriending them instead of glassing the planet they were on, due to the large number of forerunner artifacts on it.
>>26210705Oh sorry, I meant Orbital Plasma Cannons.
>>26210637Scarabs ARE fuck off huge hunters, as are liches AFAIK.
Two things1: Awaiting more glorious Halo RP Storytiem2: Fuck you OP for being so fucking lucky. I'll never get to see a Halo Rpg at my table unless I'm the one running the bitch. And you get to play as the Covies too? Fuck!
You are lucky I love you /tg/.>>26210172After the tank dies, we move in further into the dome, fighting off some marines. ‘Splodee proceeds to loot their bodies of grenades, gathering untold amounts of fragmentation explosives. Naturally, this could not possible end well. And, well, it didn’t. At one point, a thrown grenade detonates early, causing shrapnel to explode a bit too close to us for comfort. I’m fine given my Overshield and armor, Elite was too busy stabbing people on the other side of the room to care, ‘Splodee was hiding behind me, Engineer was too far way.One of us didn’t get so lucky however. That Guy, as a result of having low CON, promptly bites the dust again. He’d later go on to create a Drone, but that isn’t important right now.No, what is important right now is that we’ve just lost our sniper who was keeping everybody pinned. Now, this is a terrible thing. We were currently on the home turf of the UNSC, fighting in narrow corridors and long hallways protected from the UNSC’s side, and we’d just our suppression. It became another holdout very quickly, as the sheer amount of firepower they were bring to bear against us would have dropped even me rather quickly. Nonetheless, we managed to whittle them down, before making a final push that killed them all. Then, we learned why they were defending it so hard, turns out, we’d accidentally just found one of the 3 major Power Generators for the Mass Accelerators above the ground. If we could destroy or take control of them, we could basically annihilate any chance the UNSC had at defending the colony from space attacks. Naturally, we went and tried to destroy it as quickly as possible. We went through some more UNSC mooks, before storming into the Generator room. It was around about this moment that That Guy earned his name.We storm the room to find that everybody inside is already dead, chiefly because everybody got killed by That Guy. Cont.
>>26210857As I said before, he’s playing a Drone now, with 15 something Drones hanging around in the room. Now, you might be wondering why this makes him That Guy. Well, it’s not because of that, but what he does no less than 5 minutes later. What did he do? He detonated the Generator. The resulting explosion blows a massive fucking hole in the ground, and, accidentally, the Forerunner artefact that was detected. Why’s that a problem? Because the Artifact in question was actually a containment cell. 3 guesses what, the first 2 don’t count. That’s right, that moron unleashed the Flood. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the Halo books, the Flood is utterly fucking terrifying. It isn’t that pussy shit you see in the game, this is grade A high octane nightmare fuel.We got the hell out of there, burning all the bodies we could. We couldn’t get them all though, and even if we did, there was still the rest of the dome to infect. That Guy hadn’t been keeping up with the books, he thought he could beat them. It took less than 14 seconds for him to die a horrible violent death. The next three days were spent attempting to survive. That Guy rerolled, this time with an Elite skilled towards ranged weapons. We went and raided the ship wreckage looking for material so that Engineer could build a transmitter to contact the fleet and bring down the hammer on this world. The First and Second day went well enough, we managed to gather the materials necessary, but the Third day…
>>26210873Well, we had had better times. On the Third day, we got blindsided by the Flood. It was no more than 3 days, yet we started seeing Pure Forms, which meant that there was a Gravemind up and about. Basically, we had to hold off endless waves of Pure Forms while Engineer finished calibrating the Transmitter so that we could actually send a signal back to Covenant Space. Then, we had to hold out long enough to get evacuated. We stood the barest chance of survival. But, in the end, we got it done. Engineer successively sent the signal, starting a timer of death against this world.>But now you’re asking the question: Did we surive? Not all of us did. Elite died, That Guy died, ‘Splodee died. Elite went down stabbing Tank Forms in the face, he killed no less than 68 of them. ‘Splodee ended up partially collapsing a cliff, burying and killing hundreds of Pure Forms under the wave of rock and plasma. That Guy tripped and fell off said cliff. No, I’m not joking, he tripped and died.I survived, just. I ended up jumping on a Wraith and riding it to safety, Engineer just floated away.I have to say, it was a satisfying campaign. GM said he wanted to run a sequal, or something, but I don’t know if he’s actually going to do it.
>>26210881>Elite and 'Splodee died taking out dozens of Flood in the process;~; RIP in peace
>>26209081hold on... where are the grunts?Covies always have grunts for meat shields.
>>26210925Most of the Grunts are dead. We were a first wave, most of the backup pushing forces were on the Frigate when it exploded. That's what the GM said, anyway.
>>26210949So the Elite meant to break down the shields and the doors then?
>browsing /tg/>listening to Halo 2 Vol. 2 soundtrack>see this thread>read>laugh>cryMan, I fucking love Halo.
This is a good thread and you should feel good, OP.On a side note, Halo tabletop rpg? Sounds awesome, wish I could do something like that. Is it a homebrew?
>>26210990Halo Universe. It's had about a dozen different versions of refinement. It can let you play as Covenant, Humans, or even as Flood against Forerunners in the Pre-Halo Activation era. It's filled to the brim with vehicles, weapons, technology, from all games, novels, and background history. It lets you play as any type of character, from a Spartan to a common soldier, Longsword pilot, AI, ODST... And pretty much any rank or race on the Covenant side as well.
>>26210990It is a Homebrew, yes.>>26210979That was what I was for. Elite was stealth-stab and leading.
the flood is fucking terrifying especially one it goes above a gravemind and becomes a keymind. once that happens you might as well kill yourself and everyone else in a fire.
>>26211071Isn't that what the Forerunners did?
>>26211054What I meant was, the "Elite Squad" to go and knock down the top of Human resistance, to bring the human leaders down and disorganize them.
>>26211082Petty much. Read the last book in the forerunner trilogy if you want to see the full effects of a Keymind. I'm talking the sort of horror and grimdarknes 40k would respect.
So anyone have any idea what the fuck is up with the Precursors
>>26211040I'll have to look that up, then.>>26211071The Flood are complete pussies in the game. In reality they're lovecraftian horrors which were only killed by obliterating every organic species in the entire galaxy.
>>26211115>flood>fucking pussiesAnd the Library on Legendary was a fucking cakewalk, was it? God, I recall almost running out of shotgun shells one too many times during that.
>>26211114The guys that came before the forerunners? Is anything actually said about them, other that they existed?
>>26211131If you think the librairian was bad it would be nigh impossible if they use the book flood.
>>26211131Compared with if they were 'real', so to speak, yes. Though I agree with you, remember the level 'Cortana' in Halo 3?
>>26211114Well, the Forerunner Trilogy obviously lets us glimpse into what they are, but I feel there are many questions about the Precursors we will never find the answers to.What is it exactly you would like to know? Also, The Flood aren't exactly pussies in the game. Honestly, no other level in a video game has given me such broken nerves as The Library on Lengendary from CE... oh dear. But yes, yes, they truly are a most terrible entity.
>>26211150I only played Halo CE, so no.
>>26211132I think they made the flood, humanity the forerunners and supposedly don't need physical forms to exist being older than anything in existence or something like that.>>26211150Best level, mainly for the feels. But goddammit it was nigh impossible on legendary.>Captcha: ctockls johnApparantly something is going to ctockls the Chief.

>>26211153Hey everyone, what would be worse, a Flood infestation or Tyranid infestation? Opinions?
>>26211179John can handle it.He always does.
>>26211132Alright, the best way to consider Precursors is to think of them as Tzeentch or The Deceiver. Basically, they had the capabilities to completely ROFLSTOMP the Forerunners.Seriously, they have an archive of knowledge 100 billion years old, Technology that allows them to render Forerunners utterly helpless, could manipulate reality to an undefined extant, and possessed Dickery matched only by Eldrad, The Deceiver and Tzeentch combined.
>>26211189The flood for low tech/low population planetsTyranids for everything else
>>26211189Flood infestation is generally worse when there's spaceships lying around. If there aren't any spaceships lying around, then Tyranids are worse.Because the Flood are tool-using creatures, they can use whatever the race they're infesting can use.
>>26211179I think I read somewhere they were supposed to come from a different galaxy?>charitable dayPictuI think today is the day to be charitable.
>>26211189Flood infested Tyranids?
>>26211189Flood. The tyranids only eat your body. The flood devours what you are, and can mind control machines when it reaches Keymind stage. Seriously at that stage a large number of flood in one place equals reality being fucked.
>>26211200Do you remember the last line in Cryptum?Fuck. I got chills. Also, if anyone here hasn't read the Trilogy and wishes to.. you've already read too much.Pic related, a Precursor, supposedly.
>>26211219Holy shit. Holy. Shit.Imagine if the Flood and Tyranids started working together. The Flood for took use like >>26211217said, and the Tyranids could just fuck everyone up.
>>26211189>>26211212>>26211217>>26211219Actually, I'm going to have to disagree and say that the Flood is worse.Mainly because the Flood, once the reach sufficient quantities, can manipulate space and time.I wish I was joking.
>>26211219Are generally not worse than Tyranids. Flood are dangerous because they will subvert not just your flesh but your technology. >>26211281Read the last forerunner trilogy book. you see the sheer horror of the flood in all it's terrifyingly awesome glory.
>>26211261I wasn't sure what I expected going into it. At first glance, it isn't very Halo-y, if that makes sense. I guess I shouldn't have expected it to be, but it does begin to feel right at home once you're in the thick of it.It helps to know a bit about the games, and Halo 4. The Trilogy and 4 go hand-in-hand.I think Greg Bear is a fantastic author. The stories themselves are great, and the way he portrays the Flood and... the antagonists. Amazing.
>>26211281Something like it.It takes quite a lot of flood, on the scale of hundreds of thousands of planets, but when it happens, all of Flood space becomes the Flood's bitch. Reality bends to their will at that point.
>>26211299Cant'tit also mind control most machines and mentally attack almost anyone in the galaxy at that stage?
>>26211276I meant>Flood-infested tyranidsare not more scary than flood on their own.Flood are not improved particularly by the addition of Tyranids.
>>26211308Not enough biomass, and he's a bit too warped beyond this point. Hell, the Flood couldn't even take Johnson because of his augmentations from the Orion Project.I'm thinking that Space Marines would be safe due to their mutations, and thats about it.
>>26211299That part in Silentium where the masses of Flood infested ships begin descending on the remaining Forerunner left in the Galaxy and literally block all inter-galactic travel through sheer mass and stolen technology, thanks in part to the Precursors.I was awed.
>>26211295I still wonder how elite dick actually looks.
>>26211295I've been erring on it, but in that case I might see about getting it on my ereader just before I go on holiday in a couple of weeks.
>>26211281Sort of, yeah. Think of the Flood like biological computers, gaining processing power as they gain biomass. Get enough of them in one place and you get a Sufficiently Advanced AI that rapidly goes A God Am I.
>>26211295I haven't played halo 4 kinda gave up after 3, but would that really matter if i haven't?
>>26211318Actually it's because Johnson's nervous system was fucked up beyond any reasonably way from the auguments. A space marine isn't safe.
>>26211324Probably has spikes.
>>26211330I recall it attacks someone with images of lost loved ones to fuck with them.
>>26211324Well their reptiles so probably like a lizards.
>>26211329If you know at least a little bit about Halo, you'll be fine.Since it is technically a "prequel", being an explanation of the fall of the Forerunner, some basic knowledge therein would behoove the reader. But like I said, it's a great read even not knowing this. It just felt doubly so for me, because I'm the biggest unabashed Halo fanboy I know.Pic related... and I've added to it since then.
>reading Halo Universe handbook>nothing about the FloodMildly disappointing.
>>26211333No, Johnson is so badass the Flood are physically incapable of infecting him. Nigga fought two Hunters at once and came out on top.>ryphene wouldWe must be on alert for ryphene, we don't know what they would do!
>>26211385Back of the book, bro. They're under Bestiary.
>>26211314>Cant'tit also mind control most machinesIn a way. Layman's answer, yes.Man, I need to finish my replay through of Halo 2 and then continue on with 3. This thread coupled with listening to Halo OST's is really getting to me, lol.
Also, should we Archive this? It has generated intelligent conversation, plus Storytiem.
>>26211375Contact Harvest is my favourite. Not only do we get to see Johnson be a badass, he even gets some at the end.
>>26208662Did you get to play as both Hunter pairs?
>>26211388Damn straight. Saying he has balls of steel is an understatement. I cried when he was killed i Cried for about ten minutes.>>26211409if you want.>>26211414Agreed it was a good book and the original Brute cheiftan is an awsome guy.
>>26211414I enjoyed it as well, Johnson has always been a favorite. My one complaint is that Harvest basically made canon the fact that Brutes were the first race to be officially met by humans. Which is fucking stupid. But, hey, Reach really jumped the Shark, I suppose this Brute thing pales in comparison to that debacle of lore...
>>26211385Or you have the wrong handbook, if its still called Halo Universe Handbook. We switched to Halo Mythic a while ago.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1319ymvrfKFMm1ZolcQDhkhMcOVIKDASGQ38q7RRoVkY/edit?pli=1
>>26211438The Chosen one arrives!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you for this glorious gift.
>>26211433>Reach really jumped the SharkCare to explain that to someone that hasn't played Reach?>>26211414Fall of Reach and First strike were my favorites to be honest.
>>26211375What about Halo Wars?
>>26211451Good news is that the new version is coming out today with a lot of extras, as well as the release of my updated Transformers tabletop game.
>>26211438Sweet, I was looking for the most up-to-date one.Too bad there is no one near me who RP's.But I like to read it anyway.
>>26211433I think Halo Wars mentioned that they were the first encountered, actually. But don't quote me on that. Halo Wars wasn't all that good, anyway.
>>26211460It' changed so much fluff that Fall of Reach had already shown. This caused most fans got a tad annoyed.
>>26211462Never got into it that much. It was okay. If I found it for super duper cheap I'd buy it.Honestly, I wish it was a PC release. I can't do RTS without my mouse and keyboard. That was my main thing.
Thread has been Archived.
>>26211460>Fall of Reach and First strike were my favorites to be honest. Then Reach will hurt you just like it hurt me.Which sucks. Because it really is a fantastic fucking game. In fact, had it not broken canon, it would likely be the best Halo game to date (besides CE of course).Yeah, play it. You're a fan of FoR and First Strike. You'll understand me.
>>26211509Good, this is some awesome shit.
Okay, this seems a good of a place as any to askBasically I was playing in a pen and paper game completely unrelated to the Halo universe but got to travel there (the game is interdimensional mercenaries: the game where GMs change every session) and now my character has access to every schematic available in the UNSC InfinitySince said character is building an army, particularly using 40k size Titans, he needs the biggest and most fuck you weapons available to him to wreck modern day earth's weaponryI however never really got into the Halo series and so yeah, I need the best weapons available to the UNSC Infinity and it's computer systemsI suppose that includes some alien weaponry because the guys that played Halo 4 said that the Infinity had schematics for those in addition to everything human
>>26211460Basically it overwrote the plots of all the Halo books up to that point except The Flood (which no-one cares about because it was terrible). Now it`s canon that the Spartan IIIs were already known to Halsey and the SIIs by the time of the Reach incident (to the point where SIIs and SIIIs were running unclassified joint ops), invalidating the whole conspiracy plot from First Strike, and the entire plot of Ghosts of Onyx. Also they turned the hours-long massacre at Reach into a seemingly days-long pitched battle.
>>26211414Contact Harvest was actually where I stopped reading. It was filled with so many fucking retcons and Johnson's love scene and the epilogue immediately after it was fanfiction tier writing and cringeworthy as fuck. But now I just look like a contrarion dickhole.
So, yeah, "Dust and Bone" on Delta Halo Suite from the Halo 2 OST is sad as fuck. Goddamn. Maybe is the nostalgia that makes it 10 times worse.Popping in Halo 2 boys. I'll still be here for discussion, though.
>>26211433At least the BBEG of Reach wasnt a goddamn egg.
I remember one of my friends who has never read any of the novels going onto Halo 4, I warned him that if he hadn't read the books then shit would be confusing as fuck but he was adamant that he new halo. Five minutes late i got a message from him saying "Well fuck. I don't know halo".
>>26211424No. I played a single Hunter, one who hadn't divided into 2 colonies yet.
>>26211552I liked Ghost of Onyx.Kinda glad i didn't play it now then.
>>26211552The thing that annoyed me the most was Spartan IIIs using MJOLNIR armour. Apparently the implantation that the Spartan IIs went through was all for naught if just about anyone can use it now.
>>26211577I thought they were born in pairs. I really need to touch up on my Halo lore. Or not, since I've become so disillusioned with the series and all the retcons that come with each new installation in it.I still love the fuck out of the OG trilogy and ODST, though.
>>26211576I can understand. In the months before Halo 4 released, I was pumped, but I had not been following it at all. In fact, I only discovered the Trilogy existed after I beat the damn game.Anyway, the second I awakened the Didact in 4, and shit went down, I paused the game and tried to figure out what the fuck was going on.Shame on 343i for making 3 novels required reading for a 6 hour video game to make sense. I feel it is lost on most fans except those like myself who just gobble up all things Halo.
>>26211551Nova bombs and super MAC cannons. Just make nova bombs and super MAC cannons. seriously read up what a nova bomb is. It's a nuke that can kill an entire fleet in a single explosion of a scale that makes it look like a new sun has been born. It also fucks up any nearby planets due to the large quantities of radiation released.
>>26211605It allows us to discern true fans and those that just like Halo because of the guns, like most of today's generation
>>26211605I know what you mean, man. Playing that game was physically painful for me.
>>26211610I remember reading that. Which book was it in?
>>26211610I did not expect those levels of fuck youAny thing good for world domination and less world destruction? But I like that
>>26211641I can't remember.
>>26211645Think of it as a final fuck you to your enemies if you get beaten by them.
>>26211595Hunters aren't really... born, per se.Each hunter is made up of Lekgolo worms, hundreds of them. As Hunters grow, and more worms are added to the collective that is the Mgalekgolo, it gets smart and bigger. Eventually, it will reach a critical mass and split in 2, forming bond brother Mgalekgolo pairs. A physical sign of this is the 4 tendrils coming from the Hunters back, bonded brothers have this, unbonded do not.
>>26211641First Contact, I think.
>>26211654First Strike. The Nova bomb anyway, Complete with a fuck you message from some General which name i can't remember.
>>26211593Yeah, that little retcon crawled right up my ass. The SIIs, and by extension MJOLNIR, were a big deal to the SIIIs. Fuck, just seeing a suit nearly made a mute girl speak in GoO.And then they all had it. Including that one cheeky fucker who wore his with the helmet from a SPI suit, presumably just to piss me off further.
>>26211551Infinity itself, if you can. That ship is so big it carries... six frigates, I believe, has weapons that can fuck up a Covenant battleship with no problem, and shields that are so strong that ramming through enemy vessels is a legit strategy.
>>26211669Right, meant this >>26211673
>>26211593As well it should be. It should have been developed for human use so they wouldn't need a rare, expensive, possibly unstable super-soldier to wear it.
>>26211634I suppose this is the silver lining, yes.>>26211640Between that and how they turned Cortana into the Chief's long lost naked girlfriend, I had to give it an 8/10 at best. They turned what I considered to be such a unique relationship in a fictional universe (not quite brother/sister, not quite friends, not quite mother/son, not quite comrades that only battle can create, but something that is a mix of all those things, especially since Captain King is so asocial thanks to S-II side effects) and basically brought it down to high-school tier love/lust.And STILL, Reach pisses me off more. Because Bungie did it. Fuck. It's a sour point for me. But I still love Halo, all of them. Even HAAH WAAW
>>26211668This is why I like Mgalekgolo. they are one of the more unique aliens in Halo.
>>26211673Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb. God, that guy was a badass.
>>26211694For me, Hunters are easily the 3rd most interesting species in Halo. They lose to Precursors and the Flood. I really wish we knew more of them.
>>26211687For me it was closer to 2/10. Especially the way they fucking removed Chiefs personality just so they could claim he had no personality. Chief and Cortana were both snarky as shit in Halo 1, but NOOO, 343i wanted to do the "YER A ROBUTT, CHEEF. STOP BEIN SUCH A ROBUTT" subplot, so they actually had to retcon his personality away.>not quite brother/sister, not quite friends, not quite mother/son, not quite comrades that only battle can create, but something that is a mix of all those thingsYou forgot that they were also practically one person after a point. Or at least two halves to a greater whole. Chief was never just Chief, he was always Chief and Cortana.
>>26211734But but muh mysterious and vaugley explored threats
>>26211680>>26211593Noble was a UNSC Army Spec Ops team. Their S-III's got pulled from Alpha and Beta Companies during training, and received additional augmentations so they could wear MJOLNIR.
>>26211748Here's a solution, we learn more of everything!
>>26211681Basically what happened was me and a guy working for my "take over the world" gambit were doing the job which was, as I'm sure you could see coming a mile away: find that artifact. But my guy was only interested in the tech after hearing from other player characters in game about how powerful the tech isSo the guy working for me, another PC, has the ability to shoot data at people and shit and use a firewall as armor and dumb computer based things like thatThere was no cap on how much data he could get, but he could use it while he stored itSo basically he acted as a human flashdrive, sucked up all the good bits of everything from the Infinity's bridge, which connects to other parts, and brought it home once we got the artifactThe guy we were hired by, upon finding out we slaughtered most of the forces on the Infinity (not even shitting you I know how big it is), simply claimed the ship as his and now a russian space pirate has control of the infinity while my character has access to the data of the ship
>>26211668I know they were worm piles and I also knew they had bond brothers, but that was about it. The worminess is also why they cant get floodified or something. Or used to be, I think.I also love how the Covenant lost all ground based encounters against the Lekgolo even BEFORE they had badass power armor. Elites were squaring off against unarmored piles of worms and LOSING.
>>26211775Huh, i don't know how to respond to that. But i give you this for managing to completely fuck over humanity in the Halo universe.
>>26211782It's still like that. No central nervous system = no Flood control. Of course, they can still be used as biomass. And that's just the things, those god-like Hunters you see? Actually the small Lekgolo composite form, taken only for interaction with the Covenant. Hell, it's the least common form, even. Just think about that, it's the smallest least common form and it will utterly ruin your shit.
>>26211767Source? Cuz if that's true, I can accept it.Though it still doesn't address my primary gripe, that being the buttfucking of the plots of Fall of Reach and Ghosts of Onyx.
>>26211806They can also eat forerunner alloys. I wonder if they can eat any other allows cause if so imagine a swarm of Lekgolo eating a group of tanks and other vehicles.
>>26211634I liked Halo for the setting since CE, but having to read books to understand the game is retarded
>>26211799Yeah, it's a pretty wacky system since you, as GM, can say "Oh it's just an alternate timeline/future/parallel dimension" so nothing has real repercussionsIn fact the worst thing done in the "Real World" has been a major American city being nuked and that character and all who knew him suffering heavily and the Prime Minister of Spain kidnapped by that same character
>>26211839The Lekgolo are also integral to the plot of Halo. It's because of them that Mendicant Bias didn't manage to escape on the Keyship in High Charity. If he had...
>>26209680So you haven't read the nylund novels? That shit would be tame by his standarts...
>>26211859>>26211859> It's because of them that Mendicant Bias didn't manage to escape on the Keyship in High Charity. If he had...I don't remember this.Details? What's it from?
>>26211634>Today's Generation>Kids these days can't appreciate the classicBut... Halo is from today's generation...
>>26208662What ruleset was used?
>>26211889I know what you're saying, but I side with him on this one. There are faggots playing CoD and Halo right now that were just born when Halo CE first released, or were at least still sucking on tit.I call that a generation ago in vidya terms.
>>26211887http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/LekgoloHead down to the Trivia section, it says it right there.
>>26211827It was in either one of the Bungie Weekly Updates or one of the info packets they posted on the site before the game came out, I think.
>>26210147>implying leg msucles are the same as arm muscles&spine support
>>26211743"snarky" was the entirety of his personality though. He was a step above silent protagonist, and that would have been a better choice, since almost every chief line made me cringe
>>26211949He's right and I hate to say it but do you even lift?
>>26211962>made me cringeSon, you gay?Chief said exactly what needed to be said, and when.
>>26211924Poor Vidya New faggots, they will never know as much as the old faggots such as ourselves.
>>26212001I I'm gay does that mean we can finally be together?
>>26211552Remember, in FoR, Halsey is the PoV character and thinks to herself something along the lines of "I said every SPARTAN was here, and I lied. i hope that doesn't bite me in the ass." ? It's hinted that she knows of other SPARTANs that aren't from the first class, she could think Noble team is just part of a smaller second class.>>26211593>>26211680>>26211827What >>26211767 said is right, not only that but Noble team was among a small, tiny, handful of S-IIIs who fit within the S-II genetic parameters. They didn't get the exact same augmentations, but they were close enough that they could wear MJOLNIR.
>>26212001Sorry if I don't like a char whose deepest (and most loved/quoted by kids) line is "I need a weapon"
>>26212048My favorite line by him is his last words in Combat Evolved. Also, this is a close second, Halo 4 be damned.
>>26211694You mean, they are the only aliens in Halo that are actually pretty alien (not counting the flood)?>>26211775...Unless you can make another Infinity or produce several Super MACs (which take down Covenant battleships in one shot) you sound like you're fucked.Though it sounds like a fun rpg, if it turns into shenanigans then storytiem please.
>>26212048>Expecting DEEP PHILOSOPHICAL phrases from Chief>Chief. The child soldier who only knows was and watched his home planet get glasses. It's like you don't know who or what he is. He was a deeper and more rounded person in the books though, which I wish was portrayed a bit in the games. Also, where is the factual basis for the most quoted line being "I need a weapon." ? I'm pretty sure it's the "I bet you can't stick it." or "I can stick it."
>>26212257I bet he doesn't like Lennie either.
>>26211605watI didn't read any of the novels and didn't have much of a problem because i read the halo 3 terminals
>>26212257I wasn't expecting DEEP PHILOSOPHICAL phrases, but that doesn't mean I have to nod and jerk off to anything that comes out of his mouth behind his OH SO MYSTERIOUS visor
>>26211889Not really...or yes, in the same way kiddies will now play thief 4 expecting it to have your typcal edgy rogue char as protagonist.
>>26212335Who ever said you have to? I honestly don't understand your complaint. Has someone put a gun to your head and made you suck his dick? is there a knife to your throat if you don't yell "Finish the fight!" anytime Halo 3 is mentioned? I am sincerely curious as to what ails you anon, please inform me.
>>26212409But.... if I admit it isn't, then that would make me old.
>>26212449He's expressing a distaste for the character. You are now coming off as annoying and fanboyish.
>>26212491This guy gets it. Refer to my first post: I feel he would have been better off being silent all the time, since I found his lines horrible
>>26212468Well, I guess if you take the standard age of most gamers which is probably like fifteen at the moment, I guess you could say 'last generation'.
>>26212535I honestly kinda disliked how talkative he became in Halo 4.
>>26212535Why do you think so? I think the whole game series had an 80's action movie feel to it and there i found it fitting.
>>26212491Am I? Sorry, I'm trying to be pleasant right now because I'm actually very irritable.>>26212535Okay, so you though his dialogue was corny/cheese/bad? I'm cool with that, Halo CE was written like an Arnold Schwarzenegger meets "Sy-Fy original movie". The whole "forced to enjoy it" bit you said threw me through a loop.
>>26212569http://www.theesa.com/facts/The 'average gamer' is older then me though....
>>26212622The conversation was basically>I don't like Guy>Y U No Like Guy? U Not Understanding Guy.>U Can't Make Me Like Guy!>NO ONE IS MAKING U LIKE GUY, WHO MADE YOU THINK THIS?It was kinda cute really.
>>26212626Hah, that showed me. I was kinda joking, though.
>>26212661Well, the average gamer is more casual then they used to be.Seeing as how I am one, I'm good with that. Every once in a while, /v/ stop by /tg/ to tell me how pleb I am.
>>26209301>utterly broken skills in snipingauto aim fucking hacks camping n00b
>>26212003It's more that most don't getr attached to the story and only play because they can feel good when killing another person online. There are those that have realized how awsome the story is and actually play it for that, but most just want to shoot guys no questions asked.
>>26212726Dude it's not CoD we're talking about. did get a laugh out of me though.
>>26212753I felt like there's a lot less story in Halo 4 than in, say, Halo 3.
>>26212569Well, there is a difference between players whose youth&maybe childhood consisted of playing halo&deathwatch compared to those who played halo/call of dutypic is old daemonette for nostalgia
>>26209342An Angel Fell and made a Hole In The World
I'll admit Halo CE was the first shooter, hell first game, I ever properly played. I used to just like shooting people and owning my older brother and his friends in split-screen games. But then I grew up and started to appreciate what it really was, the soundtrack was a masterpiece, and that that there was a backstory and it was really goddamn good, after that I became emotionally attached to the series for the plot and just general awesomeness that the Halo community was back then. Halo taught me to appreciate games and their universes. Hell, it's what made me realise the sheer power of a good story, a person's imagination, and the means to express it.
>>26212917So a vidya is responsible for you being on tg?
>>26213022Ironically yes, I started to get more and more into fictional universes and eventually found my way here due to it being the only board that seems to appreciate anything. I then got more and more into traditional games and thing involved in that due to the discussions on this board. Seriously you all are awesome.Pic related my reaction to /tg/'s general Bro-ness
GUYS! I found a guy whose canonically visited the Halo universe who could totally defeat the flood!
>>26213149Marathon man. If he has a name I forgot it.
>>26213185I think he's just "MJOLNIR Security Operative #14" or something. He's also the same character as the guy from Pathways Into Darkness, meaning that one guy is a thousands of years old Cyborg by Marathon Infinity.
>>26211806Oh I know they can get bigger. In fact, I'm pretty sure Scarabs are actually just gigaHunter power armor.
>>26213200Damn, but could he best the doomguy? OR would they team up and kick all kinds of ass
>>26213253If he was ordered, he WOULD kill Doomguy. But he wouldn't enjoy it. Some guy did the math, like most old FPS protagonists, Marathon Man can run in excess of 70 mph, and can shrug off psychic attacks and rocketlauncher fire alike. Doomguys pretty badass, but things like Pistols can hit him, while Marathon Man can dodge AROUND bullets.
>>26211219>>26211189Flood infested Flash
Looks like the thread is winding down a little. How far are we from autosage?
>>26213311Shut up, comic-book physics are stupid. Only Vidya and Book physics allowed here.
>>26213302Damn. Looks like the doomguy's been knocked of his podium of badassery.
>>26211634>>26211924These statements are incredibly ironic, given how CODlike H4 was.
>>26213302Mrathon Man isn't a BERSERK PACKIN MAN AND A HALF!
>>26213200Is there any way to get pathways into darkness and get it running on windows or linux?
>>26213352Yep. Pathways Into Darkness Dude is even more badass than Marathon Man, because he can commune with the dead, survive a 60 foot fall into a jungle without a parachute, hobble through a giant temple that killed all the SEALs, Nazi commandoes, explorers, and Incan priests who went in there, single handedly kill everything, including immortal spirits, and set up a nuclear bomb with 20 minutes to spare.
>>26213365People who get it for the story don't mind as much about the game play and focus on the plot more. While people who get it to shoot other people only care about the smoothness of game play and good graphics. That's what i was meaning.
>>26213387>>26213302Maybe they are related?
>>26212048Actually, his best and most quoted line is his little exchange with Cortana at the the beginning of The Maw>You're coming in too low!"We'll be fine." >We're not gonna make it!"We'll make it">"Pull up! Pull up!">"You did that on purpose"Or him tossing the grenade in the air when Cortana asked him where he is gonna get something to blow up the ships fusion core.Or him thunking himself in the head when Cortana teleported him upside down.Really, he was more snarky in action than he was in speech. Snarky dialogue was Cortanas shtick.Regardless of how you feel about his personality, retconning it away just so you can make a big deal about his lack of one is an incredibly lazy move and in very poor form.
>>26213479>>26212048>>26212257ITT: People think the lines they find most memorable are the same ones everyone else does.
>>26212584I disliked how he talked a lot but never really said anything. I also think he had a different voice actor, because his voice and his lines alike lacked the oomph they had in past games. As for the guy bitching about the "I need a weapon" line, what your complaint lacks is context. The reason the line is so quotable is because he said it when all hell was breaking loose, the world was falling apart, three different apocalypses were hitting Earth and it was all up to Chief to fix it. So what does he do? Does he freak out? Does he make some sort of rallying speech? No, he just asks for a weapon so he can do the job he was literally made to do - kick the ass of anything that would dare threaten humanity.
>>26213479Cortana was the sarky one, Chief was more like the 'rock', so to speak.
>>26213560>>26213479 hereThey're the lines that were most quoted by most everyone I know. Anecdotal evidence, I know, but thats really all this boils down to.
>>26213365One of the many reasons why halo 4 can't be considered a real halogame.
>>26213439Thanks mate!>>26213560This, a hundred times this. The most memorable quote of the series for me is "This is not your grave - but you are welcome in it" for me (german version; while the master chief back then was so incredibly shitty that it isn't even funny, the gravemind was even more eprfect than the english one)
>>26213737Where to get rom
>tfw Reach could have been a tacticool adventure dealing with shitty SPI shields and half baked cloaking devices instead of just making the squad SIIs in everything but nameI just want a game were you play as a SIII, an actual one, in SPI armour. Or maybe a team of headhunters, that'd be pretty cool.
>>26213844I would have loved a game like ODST, just bigger and little less claustrophobic.
Hey guys, for the lulz, why don't we compare Spartan IIs to Space Marines? Who would win in a fight?Semi-trolling, semi-genuinely interested in people's opinions.
>>26214074I'd say Marines have greater strength and endurance while Spartan II's have greater speed and reflexes. In a straight up fight a space marine would win, but a spartan II could very take a marine through better tactics and surprise.
>>26214137What about standard weaponry though? Without any weapons I see where you're coming from, but the Space Marine standard weapon is the Bolter... armour-piercing automatic rocket launcher. The Spartans get, well... assault rifles, generally.
>>26214074OH LOOK ANOTHER ONE ASKINGIT'S NOT LIKE WE HAVE THAT THREAD EVERY WEEKalso, space amrine win in 1v1 melee, but spartans actually use tactics to not let that happen.
>>26214228Space marines have better standard equipment, but Spartans can have railguns (not the one in halo 4 there is one in contact harvest that is much better), easily portable laser weaponry and many forms of explosives. don't just use the stuff from the halo games.
>>26214045Working on a fangame that kinda is odst 2 ;)
>>26214289I don't recall there being a railgun in Contact Harvest. Oh, wait, you mean at the start, the sniper rifle Johnson uses? And really, it's kind of hard to compare them. Space Marines are from a universe where everything is trying to kill the human race so superhumans in concrete armour is a must. Spartans are from a universe that's a little less dangerous.
>>26214357Google it!Or better yet, GO TO BUNGIE WEBSITE, GO TO PATHWAYS INTO DARKNESS, DOWNLOAD FREE SOFTWARE.
>>26214377Yeah. besides both are sworn to protect humanity so why would they fight? Spartans and Space Marines would compliment each other really well if they worked together.
>>26214410"WE HATE ALIENS ZEALOUSLY""Aliens glassed my homeworld.""LET'S TRADE RECIPES~!"
>>26214429I'm serious they both are trained rigorously and both have a bond that is closer than blood with their fellow Marines/spartans
>>26214457Indeed. But 40K is inherently silly. I'm sure they'd just go killing aliens together.
>>26214473Probably and it would be epic
>>26214530Okay, so what if we get Captain Tidus, a generic SPARTAN II, Sergeant Cortez, and Vasquez together to go Alien Fightin'. Doomguy, Marathon Man, and PID Dude can be the judges providing color commentary."........."".........""........."
>>26214575My god. That would be awesome sheer unrelenting awesome.>Grenades!?!! In my day i tore those bitches apart with my bare hands!!!
>>26214622>You got grenades? All I got was a WRIST WATCH!
>>26214752 I imagine the banter between the three judges would be so ridiculously manly that anyone who hears it would grow a beard
>>26214803It would consist entirely of gestures, shrugging, facial expressions, and the occasional grunt. So in that way, yes.
>>26214874I would still watch the shit out of it
>>26214874And once in a while holding up a sign to denote more abstract things, as well as grade numbers.
>>26214921The abstract concepts are represented using symbols that can only be understand by 90s FPS protagonists, or experts in quantum theory.
>>26211107And now we know what the Tyranid swarms are running away from.
...fucking hell, you're making me want to get a 360 for Halo games again. It's been years (since I last played through Halo, when 3 was released) since these cravings.
>>26215086And the Keyminds are running from the W'rkncacnter.
>>26214074The problem is that while Spartans have impressive armor and augmentations, their weapons are horribly outdated. It takes an entire mag of 7.62x51mm to take down a Spartan at close range. My big question is, why the hell are they using a five hundred year old cartridge? They don't have the excuse of technological stagnation that 40k does. They should be running around with laser rifles (not the Spartan laser, actual pew-pew rifles like the Covenant has) or gauss miniguns or what have you.Give the Spartan some decent weapons and he might stand a chance, but otherwise that S3 autogun he's carrying would do more damage to the Space Marine if he threw it.
>>26215137>lasers being more effective than kinetic weaponsGo ask /sci why that is dumb.According to our understandigg of physics the next major step in weaponry will be gauss rifles, which are the ultimate weapon according to our current knowledge of physics.
I plan on getting"ladies love armour plating" tattooed onto me at some point (from the chapter in halo 2, right after sgt.johnson says "i know what the ladies like")Coz johnson is fucking badass
>>26215279But lasers make great AA weapons though.
>>26215524That's true; there are even more purposes for them, but INFANTREH FIGHTAN GAEMS is not one of them.
>>26215572What other uses? Long range Anti-Armor? Space weapons?
>>26215590Space weapons->i'm unsure about that; i'd need someone from /sci to do the actual math what is more beneficial: lack of atmosphere to laser or lack of gravity&atmosphere to ballistic weaponry; However, actual space battles are ridiculously unlikely. The biggest problem for laser weaponry (just as for gauss weaponry) is the energy required to use it (rechargeable like in 40k would make laserweapons the next ak) and that a gauss weapon does more damage than a laser weapon with the same amount of energy; however, one would have to provide ammo etc.; while a big army should ahve the proper logistics organized, thereare many factions that would have problems with that (terrorist, civilists, space explorers, spec ops who could get stranded soemwehre, etc.) and that's one of the way laser weapons could shine.Drones could also become more lexible by sharing the same power supply as their weapon.Antiarmor could potentially be replaced by maser, but apart from that i don't know of any potential new technologies. But you should really take that discussion to /sciWhat was this thread about again? Right, Halo!Listening to the Halo 2 soundtrack atm and it's awkward how i can immediatly remember when which song was played...^^
>>26215741I now that feel bro, I know that feel.
>not playing a bog-standard UNSC marine unit>not ending up trapped in a UNSC warehouse with two Elite Zealots>not killing one of them using a forklift truck>not having the whole party disarm and dogpile the second one>not having the entire party spend nearly fifteen minutes beating an Elite Zealot to death with their bare hands >not attaching their corpses to the back on a Warthog and parade them as you drive away victoriousYour group is small time
>>26216070I read your story and all I can think of is>this story is wrong>Frankie would put the zealots in his sex dungeon
>>26216315>>Frankie would put the zealots in his sex dungeon>So I 'was playing Halo' the other day, and it got me thinking: Mandibles really aren't good for fellatio...
I once almost TPKed our entire party after sniping a Hunter.
