Guess what tiem it is /tg/!

That's right, Storytiem!

>Background: Recently finished a game, GM decided to begin another game. He claimed it was a Halo Homebrew. Well, previous game was fun, so I joined.

>4 other players, who will be known as Elite, Engineer, 'Splodee and That Guy.

>Elite makes an Elite, rolls for pretty awesome melee. His skills with a gun were so pathetic that he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, but he had a plasma sword, so that didn't matter.
>Engineer rolled a Engineer, eventually becoming dedicated Skill Monkey, with awesomesauce repair, upgrade, maintenance and hacking abilities. No skills in combat, so he was about as useless as a sack of paper there.
>'Splodee made a Grunt. This Grunt was an expert in explosions. Hilarity ensued.
>That Guy... Well, he started with a Brute.

>Me: Hey, GM, can I play as a Hunter?

>GM: Sure.

>Now playing as Hunter. Yay.

Alright, you want to hear it or not?
>>
Sure.

Do you just hang out as a pile of orange worms most of the time, and when it's time to fight normal sized things suit up like the first scene in Pacific Rim?

>>26208662
this is /tg/. what do you think?
>>
Hunters are just a plain interesting race.
>>
>>26208694
Now I'm imagining the Hunter armor up in a gantry, little worms working all over it to get it ready to fight.
>>
BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR BROOOOOOOOTHERRRRRRR?!
>>
>>26208694

Nope. I was always a hulking engine of destruction. With a Plasma Cannon.

>>26208710

Here we go!

>Alright, setting of the game is that a Forerunner Artifact has been detected on some random planet. Problem is, Humans colonised this planet a while ago. Prophets have ordered that the Humans be cleansed immediately, with minimal damage to the Artifact.

>Guess who gets the honor.

> That's right, us.

>Anyway, we're being gathered, along with a bunch of other strike teams, to go and kill everything that isn't Covenant. Subtlety isn't important.

> Now being a Mgalekgolo, I get a bigass Plasma Cannon. I was set for the rest of the campaign.

>Our characters meet IC, we're on our way a couple hours later.

>>26208801

>Alright, team meeting time. Ideas and strategy go round. That Guy suggests we walk in and kill everything. And then rape the remains. And then eat the remains. In that order.

>'Splodee disagrees. He decides that the best way to clear everything out is to strap explosives to everything.

>Engineer... just sort of floats around, not really doing anything. Engineer is only with us because we're going to a Forerunner Artifact. Well, that and the Prophets don't trust us to not damage it.

>Elite declares that he'll stab everything with his sword. That was basically the extant of his battle strategies.

>I can't talk, so nobody really gives a fuck about me. I do, however, have a Plasma Cannon. I made a note to use it as early and as often as possible.

>Team meeting over, we arrive over the planet a couple hours later. Here, the team runs into the first problem, namely that the atmosphere isn't breathable to 2/5ths of the squad.

>Look at all the fucks we're not giving. Elite and That Guy put on helmets, they're fine.

>OOC: Elite: "Wait, don't Hunters always come in pairs?"

>OOC: GM: "Only hunters that have split into 2. OP hasn't."

>Incidentally, that means I'm massive, even compared to other Hunters. My CON was through the damn roof.

>Finally, we make planetfall. About twelve seconds later, a network of ground based Mass drivers rips our Frigate to shreds. Burning wreckage proceeds to scatter all over the planet.

> Alright, we're on the ground. Now, we have to make our way to several probably highly fortified sealed domes, one entrance to which was moderately far away.

> We start walking, Elite, 'Splodee and That Guy's air supply won't last forever.

> After a bit of walking, GM states that we see some vague silhouettes up ahead. Elite turns on his cloaking module and goes out to scout. He comes back and tells us that it's just some Humans in sealed armor. Yay, Combat time.

> We all start preparing for combat.

> Now, here's where 'Splodee gets his name.

> 'Splodee promptly proceeds to pull out a few canisters, a plasma grenade and a plasma pistol. He goes ahead and lays them behind a rock where he figure that the Humans will come from, then gets into cover.

Those poor Humans never even knew what hit them.

> He pulls out a second plasma pistol, then aims at the grenades and canisters.

> Trap set, we wait until the Humans arrive. They get all of .5 seconds to realise that the trap exists before 'Splodee shoots at it with his second Plasma Pistol.

> Unfortunately for That Guy, he fails his Bloodlust check. He immediately proceeds to rush directly at the Humans in an attempt to tear them apart.

> He reaches them, then 'Splodee's Plasma shot collides with the Plasma Grenade.

> Chain Reaction. Plasma Grenade explodes, damaging the canisters and causing them to explode, which then causes the Plasma Pistol to explode.

> For the unfortunate shmucks inside the detonation radius, well... they became dead, very, very quickly. Said Unfortunate Shmucks happened to include That Guy.

Shit gets real in a hurry. We have about 3 minutes to set up our defence before we get stormed. Leaving a Hunter quite simply wasn't acceptable, especially since it was so close to one of the entrances to the Dome. Our current area has 1 entrance, a bunch of large rocks and some minor cover. We grab some of the rocks and pile them on top of each other, then put Engineer away into a hiding place that nobody could shoot at. Engineer does his thing and places and Overshield on all of us.

> In case you're wondering Hunter + Overshield = all kinds of win.

Anyway, Elite activates his cloak, 'Splodee throws down some traps here and there, Engineer just goes further into hiding.

Then, hell broke loose. A dozen UNSC Marines with Rocket Launchers and Assault Rifles stormed the entrance. For their troubles, 'Splodee detonates the fuck out of them. Another Squad charges, right into my Plasma Cannon. 1 of them gets lucky, just managing to escape the blast. So, Elite shoves a Plasma Sword through his face.

Oh, But it didn't end there.

Cont.
>>
>>26209526
Please, continue...
>>
>>26209526

A third squad tries to shoot Elite, but he manages to combat roll out of the way. They get a beam of Plasma to their face for trying though. Never let anybody tell you otherwise, Plasma Cannons are awesome weapons. So, after that squad, 3 more come before the tide stops for a second.

And then the wall explodes.

>GUESS WHAT MOTHAFUCKAS, IT'S A TANK!

A goddamned Scorpion Tank just shoots right through the fucking wall. Oh shit mode: Engaged.

Naturally, being a Hunter, the Tank decides to shoot at more first. Generally, that works. This time however, I was covered by an Overshield projected by Engineer. Getting a lucky roll, the round bounces of my shield. My shield also depletes instantly. A second lucky roll leads to me combat rolling out of the way, just in time for the Scorpion Tank to shoot where I had been a second ago. From there, I played a short game of 'ring around the rosie and dodge the goddamned missiles'. Why was it short? Because 'Splodee chose that moment to be a badass.

That motherfucker just jumped on the tank, ignited a plasma grenade and shoved it down the tank's cannon barrel.

I'm sorry OP, but this sounds more like a halo-dragon ball crossover.
>>
>>26209680
Hunters are fucking durable. With an overshield, you can survive a tank round blast.

And haven't you ever seen a hunter jump out the way of a warthog before? Fuckers are agile.
>>
>>26209680

Stone wall, more of a rock formation, really.

Overshield + an angle will do that. I would absolutely be dead if I didn't have that Overshield.

Hunters, for their size, can be extremely nimble.

That Grunt was insane. No 2 ways about it.

Still, that's a fair opinion.

>>26209641

Now, let it never be understated what kind of damage a plasma grenade can do. Especially if that grenade is being detonated in a small space. The tank did a good impression of a wraith in that moment, a gigantic burst of plasma exploding out of it's barrel. Unfortunately for it, that wasn't the only way the plasma went. It also went backwards, right into it's ammunition compartment and fuel cells. One does not need to guess what happened next, that tank detonated, probably just as 'Splodee intended.

We got out of there a little while later, before heading out to the dome entrance. Of course, combat didn't end there.

>>
>>26209707
That depends if you're thinking game terms or game universe terms. In-game you could kill 12 hunters by touching them with ghost's wing at 5 km/h. In halo universe (fluff) a hunter would total a charging warthog and at best be somewhat wounded.

I have no problem with their durability, but with future tank missle bouncing off like a XVII century cannonball.

But that grunt stunt (lol)? They have short, turtle-like legs. How do you expect them running casually up to a tank, jumping on it and somehow shoving a grenade down the barrell (even a human couldn't reach the muzzle while standing on a hull).

TL;DR, I quit bitching. Have fun.
>>
>>26209737
> In-game you could kill 12 hunters by touching them with ghost's wing at 5 km/h
Really? At least in halo 1 you couldn't touch them with ghosts and they had horrifically good reflexes to jump out the way of 'hogs.

It's been some time since I played, though.
>>
>>26209737

There's a bit more to it than that, what I didn't mention was that 'Splodee jump from one of the rock formations around the area we were in.

>>26209726

Sometime after we killed the tank, That Guy rejoined the game. For those who didn't get the memo the first time, he was playing a Jackal with ludicrous sniping skills, gained from min-maxing. Anyway, he, and the rest of his squad, are running away from an assload of Marines who'd managed to get the jump on them. Half their squad is dead, Hunter pair included. Apparently, one of the Marines in question had a Spartan Laser. After their squad found us, the Marines came soon after. The difference between the first and the last however, is that the first didn't get a face full of plasma.

Turns out, they did have a Spartan Laser. As it also turns out, Plasma Beams are not good for the owner of a Spartan Laser. We killed them dead, managing to avoid most damage thanks to Engineer's Overshields.

After that, we head towards the entrance. Oh boy did we have a surprise waiting for us.

Cont.
>>
>>26209891
Did anyone pick the spartan laser up?
>>
>>26209928
>touching filthy human lasers
pleb
>>
>>26209891

What was the surprise? Why, simple.

It was fortified to the fuckhouse.

Tanks, Marines, Automated Turrets, you name, it was there.

We'd be slaughtered if we went in there, plain and simple.

>Elite: "Hey wait a second, what happened to all that wreckage from the Frigate?"

And with that, we set out to try and find enough wreckage for Engineer to do something useful with. Of course, Engineers don't build weapons, but they can still fix them. After that began a session long sidequest that was utterly boring, besides us finding what we needed. That was really all that happened.

Anyway, we managed to salvage a couple Wraiths, a Banshee and some Ghosts. As attempting to use a Banshee or Ghost against a tank was an exercise in futility, we decided to loot all the Wraiths. We had some of That Guy's Squad pilot them, then parked them outside the view range of the defence at the dome entrance.

And then, we bombarded the heck out of them.

Cont.
>>
>>26209943
It has happened in rare cases, usually jackals do it.
>>
>>26209928
Jackals aren't actually members of the Covenant but are mercenaries, so they have no qualms about using human weapons if need be but the others find it abhorrent.

>Lifting a spartan laser is too hard

>>
>>26209958

Now, a Wraith's Plasma Mortar, especially when used en masse, will quite happily devastate anything. Tanks are pretty resilient, which is why we targeted them first. Tanks, awesome as they are, do not last very long in the face of combined Plasma barrages from several Wraiths. We just kept bombarding until that area was more glass than rock. Once we were sure that everything over there was deader than dead, Engineer floated up to the door and hacked it open.

The door opened to reveal, surprise surprise, another goddamned tank. Unfortunately for it, it's alone against several Wraiths, + us. We bathed it in plasma.

>>26210172

After the tank dies, we move in further into the dome, fighting off some marines. ‘Splodee proceeds to loot their bodies of grenades, gathering untold amounts of fragmentation explosives. Naturally, this could not possible end well. And, well, it didn’t. At one point, a thrown grenade detonates early, causing shrapnel to explode a bit too close to us for comfort. I’m fine given my Overshield and armor, Elite was too busy stabbing people on the other side of the room to care, ‘Splodee was hiding behind me, Engineer was too far way.

One of us didn’t get so lucky however. That Guy, as a result of having low CON, promptly bites the dust again. He’d later go on to create a Drone, but that isn’t important right now.
No, what is important right now is that we’ve just lost our sniper who was keeping everybody pinned. Now, this is a terrible thing. We were currently on the home turf of the UNSC, fighting in narrow corridors and long hallways protected from the UNSC’s side, and we’d just our suppression. It became another holdout very quickly, as the sheer amount of firepower they were bring to bear against us would have dropped even me rather quickly. Nonetheless, we managed to whittle them down, before making a final push that killed them all.

Then, we learned why they were defending it so hard, turns out, we’d accidentally just found one of the 3 major Power Generators for the Mass Accelerators above the ground. If we could destroy or take control of them, we could basically annihilate any chance the UNSC had at defending the colony from space attacks. Naturally, we went and tried to destroy it as quickly as possible. We went through some more UNSC mooks, before storming into the Generator room. It was around about this moment that That Guy earned his name.

We storm the room to find that everybody inside is already dead, chiefly because everybody got killed by That Guy.

Cont.
>>
>>26210857

As I said before, he’s playing a Drone now, with 15 something Drones hanging around in the room. Now, you might be wondering why this makes him That Guy. Well, it’s not because of that, but what he does no less than 5 minutes later.

What did he do? He detonated the Generator. The resulting explosion blows a massive fucking hole in the ground, and, accidentally, the Forerunner artefact that was detected.
Why’s that a problem? Because the Artifact in question was actually a containment cell. 3 guesses what, the first 2 don’t count.
That’s right, that moron unleashed the Flood.
For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the Halo books, the Flood is utterly fucking terrifying. It isn’t that pussy shit you see in the game, this is grade A high octane nightmare fuel.

We got the hell out of there, burning all the bodies we could. We couldn’t get them all though, and even if we did, there was still the rest of the dome to infect.

That Guy hadn’t been keeping up with the books, he thought he could beat them. It took less than 14 seconds for him to die a horrible violent death.

The next three days were spent attempting to survive. That Guy rerolled, this time with an Elite skilled towards ranged weapons. We went and raided the ship wreckage looking for material so that Engineer could build a transmitter to contact the fleet and bring down the hammer on this world. The First and Second day went well enough, we managed to gather the materials necessary, but the Third day…
>>
>>26210873

Well, we had had better times. On the Third day, we got blindsided by the Flood. It was no more than 3 days, yet we started seeing Pure Forms, which meant that there was a Gravemind up and about. Basically, we had to hold off endless waves of Pure Forms while Engineer finished calibrating the Transmitter so that we could actually send a signal back to Covenant Space. Then, we had to hold out long enough to get evacuated. We stood the barest chance of survival. But, in the end, we got it done. Engineer successively sent the signal, starting a timer of death against this world.

>But now you’re asking the question: Did we surive?

Not all of us did. Elite died, That Guy died, ‘Splodee died. Elite went down stabbing Tank Forms in the face, he killed no less than 68 of them. ‘Splodee ended up partially collapsing a cliff, burying and killing hundreds of Pure Forms under the wave of rock and plasma. That Guy tripped and fell off said cliff. No, I’m not joking, he tripped and died.
I survived, just. I ended up jumping on a Wraith and riding it to safety, Engineer just floated away.

I have to say, it was a satisfying campaign. GM said he wanted to run a sequal, or something, but I don’t know if he’s actually going to do it.

It's filled to the brim with vehicles, weapons, technology, from all games, novels, and background history. It lets you play as any type of character, from a Spartan to a common soldier, Longsword pilot, AI, ODST... And pretty much any rank or race on the Covenant side as well.

The Flood are complete pussies in the game. In reality they're lovecraftian horrors which were only killed by obliterating every organic species in the entire galaxy.

Well, the Forerunner Trilogy obviously lets us glimpse into what they are, but I feel there are many questions about the Precursors we will never find the answers to.

What is it exactly you would like to know?

Also, The Flood aren't exactly pussies in the game. Honestly, no other level in a video game has given me such broken nerves as The Library on Lengendary from CE... oh dear.

But yes, yes, they truly are a most terrible entity.

Alright, the best way to consider Precursors is to think of them as Tzeentch or The Deceiver.

Basically, they had the capabilities to completely ROFLSTOMP the Forerunners.

Seriously, they have an archive of knowledge 100 billion years old, Technology that allows them to render Forerunners utterly helpless, could manipulate reality to an undefined extant, and possessed Dickery matched only by Eldrad, The Deceiver and Tzeentch combined.

The flood for low tech/low population planets
Tyranids for everything else
>>
>>26211189
Flood infestation is generally worse when there's spaceships lying around. If there aren't any spaceships lying around, then Tyranids are worse.

Because the Flood are tool-using creatures, they can use whatever the race they're infesting can use.

Are generally not worse than Tyranids. Flood are dangerous because they will subvert not just your flesh but your technology. Flood are tool users. They use your tools against you.

I wasn't sure what I expected going into it. At first glance, it isn't very Halo-y, if that makes sense. I guess I shouldn't have expected it to be, but it does begin to feel right at home once you're in the thick of it.

It helps to know a bit about the games, and Halo 4. The Trilogy and 4 go hand-in-hand.

I think Greg Bear is a fantastic author. The stories themselves are great, and the way he portrays the Flood and... the antagonists. Amazing.
>>
>>26211281

Something like it.

It takes quite a lot of flood, on the scale of hundreds of thousands of planets, but when it happens, all of Flood space becomes the Flood's bitch. Reality bends to their will at that point.

If you know at least a little bit about Halo, you'll be fine.

Since it is technically a "prequel", being an explanation of the fall of the Forerunner, some basic knowledge therein would behoove the reader.

Okay, this seems a good of a place as any to ask
Basically I was playing in a pen and paper game completely unrelated to the Halo universe but got to travel there (the game is interdimensional mercenaries: the game where GMs change every session) and now my character has access to every schematic available in the UNSC Infinity
Since said character is building an army, particularly using 40k size Titans, he needs the biggest and most fuck you weapons available to him to wreck modern day earth's weaponry
I however never really got into the Halo series and so yeah, I need the best weapons available to the UNSC Infinity and it's computer systems
I suppose that includes some alien weaponry because the guys that played Halo 4 said that the Infinity had schematics for those in addition to everything human
>>
>>26211460
Basically it overwrote the plots of all the Halo books up to that point except The Flood (which no-one cares about because it was terrible). Now it`s canon that the Spartan IIIs were already known to Halsey and the SIIs by the time of the Reach incident (to the point where SIIs and SIIIs were running unclassified joint ops), invalidating the whole conspiracy plot from First Strike, and the entire plot of Ghosts of Onyx. Also they turned the hours-long massacre at Reach into a seemingly days-long pitched battle.

Hunters aren't really... born, per se.

Each hunter is made up of Lekgolo worms, hundreds of them. As Hunters grow, and more worms are added to the collective that is the Mgalekgolo, it gets smart and bigger.

Eventually, it will reach a critical mass and split in 2, forming bond brother Mgalekgolo pairs. A physical sign of this is the 4 tendrils coming from the Hunters back, bonded brothers have this, unbonded do not.

Between that and how they turned Cortana into the Chief's long lost naked girlfriend, I had to give it an 8/10 at best. They turned what I considered to be such a unique relationship in a fictional universe (not quite brother/sister, not quite friends, not quite mother/son, not quite comrades that only battle can create, but something that is a mix of all those things, especially since Captain King is so asocial thanks to S-II side effects) and basically brought it down to high-school tier love/lust.

And STILL, Reach pisses me off more. Because Bungie did it. Fuck.

>not quite brother/sister, not quite friends, not quite mother/son, not quite comrades that only battle can create, but something that is a mix of all those things
You forgot that they were also practically one person after a point. Or at least two halves to a greater whole. Chief was never just Chief, he was always Chief and Cortana.

Basically what happened was me and a guy working for my "take over the world" gambit were doing the job which was, as I'm sure you could see coming a mile away: find that artifact. But my guy was only interested in the tech after hearing from other player characters in game about how powerful the tech is
So the guy working for me, another PC, has the ability to shoot data at people and shit and use a firewall as armor and dumb computer based things like that
There was no cap on how much data he could get, but he could use it while he stored it
So basically he acted as a human flashdrive, sucked up all the good bits of everything from the Infinity's bridge, which connects to other parts, and brought it home once we got the artifact
The guy we were hired by, upon finding out we slaughtered most of the forces on the Infinity (not even shitting you I know how big it is), simply claimed the ship as his and now a russian space pirate has control of the infinity while my character has access to the data of the ship

I know what you're saying, but I side with him on this one.

There are faggots playing CoD and Halo right now that were just born when Halo CE first released, or were at least still sucking on tit.

I call that a generation ago in vidya terms.

It was in either one of the Bungie Weekly Updates or one of the info packets they posted on the site before the game came out, I think.

Remember, in FoR, Halsey is the PoV character and thinks to herself something along the lines of "I said every SPARTAN was here, and I lied. i hope that doesn't bite me in the ass." ? It's hinted that she knows of other SPARTANs that aren't from the first class, she could think Noble team is just part of a smaller second class.

>>26211593
>>26211680
>>26211827
What >>26211767 said is right, not only that but Noble team was among a small, tiny, handful of S-IIIs who fit within the S-II genetic parameters. They didn't get the exact same augmentations, but they were close enough that they could wear MJOLNIR.

My favorite line by him is his last words in Combat Evolved.

Also, this is a close second, Halo 4 be damned.

You mean, they are the only aliens in Halo that are actually pretty alien (not counting the flood)?

>Expecting DEEP PHILOSOPHICAL phrases from Chief
>Chief. The child soldier who only knows was and watched his home planet get glasses.
It's like you don't know who or what he is. He was a deeper and more rounded person in the books though, which I wish was portrayed a bit in the games.

Also, where is the factual basis for the most quoted line being "I need a weapon." ? I'm pretty sure it's the "I bet you can't stick it." or "I can stick it."

I'll admit Halo CE was the first shooter, hell first game, I ever properly played. I used to just like shooting people and owning my older brother and his friends in split-screen games. But then I grew up and started to appreciate what it really was, the soundtrack was a masterpiece, and that that there was a backstory and it was really goddamn good, after that I became emotionally attached to the series for the plot and just general awesomeness that the Halo community was back then. Halo taught me to appreciate games and their universes. Hell, it's what made me realise the sheer power of a good story, a person's imagination, and the means to express it.

Marathon man. If he has a name I forgot it.

I think he's just "MJOLNIR Security Operative #14" or something.

He's also the same character as the guy from Pathways Into Darkness, meaning that one guy is a thousands of years old Cyborg by Marathon Infinity.

If he was ordered, he WOULD kill Doomguy. But he wouldn't enjoy it.

Some guy did the math, like most old FPS protagonists, Marathon Man can run in excess of 70 mph, and can shrug off psychic attacks and rocketlauncher fire alike. Doomguys pretty badass, but things like Pistols can hit him, while Marathon Man can dodge AROUND bullets.

Yep. Pathways Into Darkness Dude is even more badass than Marathon Man, because he can commune with the dead, survive a 60 foot fall into a jungle without a parachute, hobble through a giant temple that killed all the SEALs, Nazi commandoes, explorers, and Incan priests who went in there, single handedly kill everything, including immortal spirits, and set up a nuclear bomb with 20 minutes to spare.

Actually, his best and most quoted line is his little exchange with Cortana at the the beginning of The Maw
>You're coming in too low!
"We'll be fine."
>We're not gonna make it!
"We'll make it"
>"Pull up! Pull up!"
>"You did that on purpose"
Or him tossing the grenade in the air when Cortana asked him where he is gonna get something to blow up the ships fusion core.
Or him thunking himself in the head when Cortana teleported him upside down.

Really, he was more snarky in action than he was in speech. Snarky dialogue was Cortanas shtick.

Regardless of how you feel about his personality, retconning it away just so you can make a big deal about his lack of one is an incredibly lazy move and in very poor form.

ITT: People think the lines they find most memorable are the same ones everyone else does.
>>
>>26212584
I disliked how he talked a lot but never really said anything. I also think he had a different voice actor, because his voice and his lines alike lacked the oomph they had in past games.

As for the guy bitching about the "I need a weapon" line, what your complaint lacks is context. The reason the line is so quotable is because he said it when all hell was breaking loose, the world was falling apart, three different apocalypses were hitting Earth and it was all up to Chief to fix it. So what does he do? Does he freak out? Does he make some sort of rallying speech? No, he just asks for a weapon so he can do the job he was literally made to do - kick the ass of anything that would dare threaten humanity.
>>
>>26213479
Cortana was the sarky one, Chief was more like the 'rock', so to speak.

Hey guys, for the lulz, why don't we compare Spartan IIs to Space Marines? Who would win in a fight?
Semi-trolling, semi-genuinely interested in people's opinions.
>>
>>26214074
I'd say Marines have greater strength and endurance while Spartan II's have greater speed and reflexes. In a straight up fight a space marine would win, but a spartan II could very take a marine through better tactics and surprise.
>>
>>26214137
What about standard weaponry though? Without any weapons I see where you're coming from, but the Space Marine standard weapon is the Bolter... armour-piercing automatic rocket launcher. The Spartans get, well... assault rifles, generally.
>>
>>26214074
OH LOOK ANOTHER ONE ASKING
IT'S NOT LIKE WE HAVE THAT THREAD EVERY WEEK

also, space amrine win in 1v1 melee, but spartans actually use tactics to not let that happen.
>>
>>26214228
Space marines have better standard equipment, but Spartans can have railguns (not the one in halo 4 there is one in contact harvest that is much better), easily portable laser weaponry and many forms of explosives. don't just use the stuff from the halo games.

And really, it's kind of hard to compare them. Space Marines are from a universe where everything is trying to kill the human race so superhumans in concrete armour is a must. Spartans are from a universe that's a little less dangerous.

>>
>>26214074
The problem is that while Spartans have impressive armor and augmentations, their weapons are horribly outdated. It takes an entire mag of 7.62x51mm to take down a Spartan at close range. My big question is, why the hell are they using a five hundred year old cartridge? They don't have the excuse of technological stagnation that 40k does. They should be running around with laser rifles (not the Spartan laser, actual pew-pew rifles like the Covenant has) or gauss miniguns or what have you.

Give the Spartan some decent weapons and he might stand a chance, but otherwise that S3 autogun he's carrying would do more damage to the Space Marine if he threw it.
>>
>>26215137
>lasers being more effective than kinetic weapons
Go ask /sci why that is dumb.
According to our understandigg of physics the next major step in weaponry will be gauss rifles, which are the ultimate weapon according to our current knowledge of physics.

Space weapons->i'm unsure about that; i'd need someone from /sci to do the actual math what is more beneficial: lack of atmosphere to laser or lack of gravity&atmosphere to ballistic weaponry; However, actual space battles are ridiculously unlikely.

The biggest problem for laser weaponry (just as for gauss weaponry) is the energy required to use it (rechargeable like in 40k would make laserweapons the next ak) and that a gauss weapon does more damage than a laser weapon with the same amount of energy; however, one would have to provide ammo etc.; while a big army should ahve the proper logistics organized, thereare many factions that would have problems with that (terrorist, civilists, space explorers, spec ops who could get stranded soemwehre, etc.) and that's one of the way laser weapons could shine.
Drones could also become more lexible by sharing the same power supply as their weapon.

Antiarmor could potentially be replaced by maser, but apart from that i don't know of any potential new technologies.

But you should really take that discussion to /sci

What was this thread about again? Right, Halo!
