>Coming to you way later than usual, a second attempt at a twist/plot filled thread.

"Let's go ahead and do it now." I tell her after a moments consideration. "Before something else crazy happens to stop us."

"Yeah, been kinda non-stop around here." Rider comments as we make the short walk back to my room.

"Maybe it's just the stress getting to me, but this day feels like it's been going forever." I shake my head, sighing. "Thanks for the save back there."

"Eh." she responds with a shrug as she sits down. "Anything last minute you wanted to ask or know about this? Last minute mental preparations? Or are we just going straight into it?"

I shake my head. "Let's get right into it."

"Alright." She says, sitting down and folding her legs beneath herself. She gestures me to lay don so my head is in her lap staring at the ceiling, as she gently grips the sides of my face. "Try and relax."

"I am relaxed."

"No you aren't. I can feel your nervousness and desire to make a stupid joke." She frowns slightly. "Just take a deep breath."
>>
>>26226268

I close my eyes, sighing. After a few moments, I ask her. "Is it working?"

"You tell me." She responds, and I open my eyes to see her standing there.

"Oh, hey. Is this the dream?" I ask, looking around. I see people walking around a small neighborhood, kids playing and dogs barking.

"Not quite. You were really resisting going into your normal dream, so this is apparently before that." She explains, looking around. "Why is everything so blurry is the question."

"I don't really remember it." I answer, looking around. "I'm not sure if this is even real or just a sort of image I've painted as a placeholder for what should be here."

"You really don't remember?" Rider asks surprised.

"Well, no. I don't really remember anything from before the fire."

Rider stares into the distance for a few moments, before looking to me concerned. "... Shirou, what exactly is the dream I was going to help you with?"

"Almost every night, I relive what happened during the fire." I explain, walking down the road and glancing around. "Apparently there's a few details I've either been ignoring or suppressing that Saber noticed because of the bond we had."

"So you wanted me to help you.... rip open a gigantic emotional wound by forcibly reliving what was apparently the worst day of your life?" Rider asks, shocked.

".... Yes?" I answer cautiously, looking back. She hasn't moved from the place where we started.

"And you didn't think to TELL me about this before we started?"

>Floor is open.

"So, I'm sorry I hid this from you, but I have you know. Not only for our current situation, but I personally need to know, especially if it can somehow give me a leg up on Avenger.

"That, and I trust you to keep me from drowning in my own past."

She stares at me, crossing her arms. "I don't think you understand. I don't HAVE a role in your dream. It's easy to insert myself into something like this, since it's just empty space. Or like that dream earlier, there was already a 'Rider' there, so I could join in." she gestures around. "This isn't technically a 'dream' like that though. Or at least, it won't be soon. It's a memory, one that I have no place in. I can help you, but I'm going to be in your head for the duration unless we want to disrupt it further."

".... so everything I experience...."

"Unless we decide to stop the ride halfway though, yes." She responds with a sigh. "I'm going to be living it right beside you. If it's truly that important..... I can manage. It probably won't even be as bad for me. But.... you want to walk lucid into a tragedy that scarred you in ways you have a hard time understanding. I'll help, but Shirou.... nobody will mind if you wanted to back out now."

"You're asking me to walk now?"

"I could whip us up something more pleasant, easily. I wouldn't even mind something.... intimate, if you wanted to go there." She seems deeply troubled, biting her thumb. "I just.... anything would be better than this. Nobody would think less of you."

>>
"Honestly, Rider, I'm touched by your offer of an intimate dream with you. I'd take you up any other time but...

"I would think less of myself. If anything were to happen to any of you and I found out that learning about my past could have prevented it, I don't think I'd ever forgive myself.

She hesitates, obviously suppressing her worries. "You're sure?"

"If you can just keep me aware and asleep without getting involved.... that's fine. You don't have to go through it with me." I tell her gently.

She stares for a moment, before letting out a deep sigh. "No, I think I'm going to have to go with you on this one." she says, as the world around us starts to fade. "If you start to have... issues, I'll wake you up. This will be painful enough without you trying to force it."

As she says the words, I blink.... and find myself inside my bedroom on the second floor. I hear screams from down the hall and feel an insufferable heat....

I need to get out, before the fire gets me.

I run down the stairs towards the front of the house, a falling beam only grazing my arm as it falls.

I step into the street and see it's not just my house that's been caught. Fire seems to be pouring and wrapping around buildings all around me. I start running, seeing the house turn to ash behind me. I see a girl from my class enveloped in flame, screaming. I see an old man collapse as his heart gives out, watching his his home burn with his family still inside.

In my mind, I see an image of fire as hot as the one around me burning even harder. I can feel a fast drying wetness on my face from my eyes watering.

I'm not sure if it's the heat causing it, or the overwhelming fear shaking my bones as I run.

Shirou had his element / origin rewritten after the fuyuki city fire, he went from whatever element he was to element and origin : sword.

I run, further and further. I know the River's nearby. If I could get there, I'd be safe but....

I can't tell which way it is. I can only stay a few steps ahead of the fire everywhere. I see a pool in a yard I pass coming to a boil and melting away as the fire spreads around it. I stay as far from the water as I can as it starts to pour out and turn to steam, clouding the air.

I stumble, hearing the sizzling on the pavement around me as I slam into a car.

It hurts.

I see glass and wood around me, broken. And... blood.

It hurts.

I start to force myself up, and my world is pain. I see the street I was on below me as I collapse against the shattered window frame.

It hurts so much.

I can see my white shirt staining black from my stomach, and my left arm is hanging limp and useless from the pain. It feels like I'm made from broken glass.

I reach for the doorknob, trying to force it open. It burns my hand, sizzling the flesh as I work. I scream, letting go. I need....

I can't...

Are you afraid?

I crawl towards the back. I think that's farther from the fire.

You don't have to be scared....

I use a chair as a brace, trying to get back to my feet, sliding uselessly.

you don't have to be so weak....

I make it to the back. Sliding glass door, wooden frame. I just need to get a little further....

You can't run forever....

The door's locked. I can't stand.

You don't want to die. Life is.... precious.

I try to make a fist, and punch the glass. I feel hot, but I can't tell if it's the fire.

It seems hopeless, doesn't it?

My knuckles are bleeding.

Just say the words, and I'll help you.

"I...." I start shivering, suddenly cold despite the heat.

But... if you would have your wish....

"I don't...." My throat is dry, trying to offer a prayer I can't even hear.

.... Then I want you to grant mine....

".... I don't want to die...."

Then live for me, Shirou.

I feel a tugging sensation. I reach out, and tug back, weakly. And I feel stronger. I tug again, and feel something else. More strands?

I grab as many as I can, and PULL. The pain returns, illuminating the numbness I didn't know was there.

I reach for the door again, and it explodes before a column of flame I let out. I crawl out the door, watching the flames dance and... a distant shadow on the horizon. I can't.... see it. it's... blurry.

I start to reach out, struggling to understand.

Maybe there's hope for this one after all....

I struggle to stand, finally managing it with the help of a rake nearby.

I limp down the street, as the fire continues it's grim work through the city. Finally.... after watching the ruins burn for an eternity.... Rain falls.

And so do I.

When I open my eyes, I see my own concerned face reflected back at me. I blink, and I see another. The same, but different.

I blink again, and see a depressingly familiar face.

"Hey kid." He says morosely. "I hope you don't mind me taking a peek? I would've asked but.... your eyes are the only info I have on what happened that night." Merlin gives me a shaky smile as he clasps me on the shoulder. "We'll talk tomorrow night. This.... I think you need someone who ISN'T me right now."

I start awake, and see Rider covered in a cold sweat, trembling slightly. "Shirou? What the hell WAS that? You got thrown into a window with a rod in your liver and a broken arm? How..... How did you survive that?"

Groovy. So Shirou was pyrokinetic.

Given that the pyrokinesis predates the whatever with Avenger and still manifests after it (perhaps even being reinvigorated by it), we might still be able to do it. Unless our forcible origin realignment happens later in response to our upbringing.

How the hell did Kerry find us, and why did he adopt us if he didn't save us?

Kinda called it (half, anyway) that the Grail had its own wish.
Now, to see if the other half of my theory holds any water.
Namely, if there are other wishes fulfilled by the Grail that tangle each other so much that the wishes are basically self-supporting, but works within the framework of the Grail's misguided interpretation to spread suffering.

Damn, and I thought we'd get a clue to the location of Avalon...
I think the next order of business should be to check that clearing Merlin pointed at.
>>
Is it time we mentioned Merlin?
>>
>>26249252

ONLY IF WE GO BACK TO DREAM-LAND FIRST.
>>
>>26249240
Right, but he also found a Shirou so absurdly injured that he had to implant Avalon to keep him alive. We don't have Avalon in us, and we did make some sort of deal to survive. Wouldn't be much of a deal if we weren't healed enough to survive.
>>
>>26249261

We also limped there on a rake and collapsed bleeding to death in the street.

I think, wish or no, he would've done it anyway.

Assuming we were coherent enough to even say shit to him when he did it, we had no idea what he was even doing, or that the wish would apparently save our lives.
>>
>>26249252
Maybe after he speaks with us the next night.
Oh god, a lot is gonna happen the next day, isn't it?

>>26249261
Maybe it's a deal (from the Grail's perspective) if Kerry's wish to save someone got fulfilled via use of Avalon?

But man, what's up with the >".... Then I want you to grant mine...." bit? Seihai-kun is acting more like an Incubator/Kyubey here.

It sounds to me like someone who peeks into a dream notices only what we perceive with senses. In other words, didn't hear the Grail or our wish. I don't know why, but it seems to me to be very important.
>>
>>26249334
Indeed, Rider didn't seem to hear it either given her reaction.
>>
>>26249368
We should ask her if she heard it.

Because if we just blurt all this stuff about a wish and creepy voices out without context she'll think we're even more of a loony than we already are.
>>
>>26249321

I wouldn't say that. Everything was already fucked by the time we made the wish, what with the horrible fire and all. We don't know enough yet to figure out what all the consequences were.
>>
>>26249454
The wish may well have damned those around us. They died so we would survive. They died so that kiritsugu would not find anyone until he found us.
>>

Earlier this morning, we made out with Rider, found out Sakura's having knightmares, that Arcuied's leaving and that Kirei's having a cake sale.
Then we made out with Rin and cheered up Sakura, before going to meet Lancer and his Master for negotiations. And taking Saber out on a date. Which revealed that she's not dead.
Lancer showed up again and heard about Kirei, so went off to tell us that he's dead to Assassin; who we're now informed is a badass.

So we went home. And got nailed by Rider for not being Shirou. Which lead to more stealthing and shenanigans trying to settle everyone down again. Then we used Shirou-cunning to ascertain the location of Lancer and his Master, so he gave us some harem pot-stirring to reciprocate. So we went for a shopping trip with Ilya and decided we should have some R&R. And we all know how well that's been going.
And I'm paraphrasing and missing huge chunks of what we did today.

And TOMORROW is going to be busy?...

Merlin told us that our origin and element were both "Sword"
From the 34th verse:
>>"How can my injuries disappear so quickly? Are they transferring to someone else? Am I a demon?"
>"Avalon." He says "Is more than an object. If that doesn't make any sense well..... Not really sure what I can do to help you there."
>>Is our true element then "Sheath"?
>"No, it's sword. As is your Origin." He gives me an odd look. ".... Spend a lot of time thinking about swords do you? Explains why you haven't fucked any of your girls yet."

Merlin might have gotten a thing or two wrong before, but he's probably knows how to learn someone's Origin.
>>
>>26250682
That's how Shirou always does it canonically.
>>
>Origin is forge
>The Fire and our origin literally forge a new origin for us, Sword
>>
>>26250704
My bad, i meant "was" and not "is". Now that I think about it though, it doesn't make sense because child shirou managed to extinguish a fire with his power
>>
>>26250713
I don't remember anything about Shirou in FSN visualizing a gun firing to trace.
>>
>>26250730
I haven't read FSN in year but I do remember he does it some, mostly about the hammer firing or some shit

I definitely know it happens for Nine Lives BladeWorks.
>>
>>26250730
He did at the very beginning, because he was forming his Circuit from scratch every time he did magic like a retard. That stopped as soon as Rin got hold of him and taught him the right way rather than letting him attempt suicide every time he wanted to fix a toaster.
>>
>>26250730
Just a sec. It's used numerous times but the only immediate example I can think of is Nine Bullet Revolver and that's not 100% accurate here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3RqF4bidYo

From 6:20 onwards he says 'trigger off' and the name of the scene itself is kinda...well you know.

I'll keep looking for a direct mention of the gun.
>>
>>26250738
>>26250749
>>26250750
Well, shit. Between that and what Archer said during the fight with him I was certain that meant this Shirou was different from the real one.

Now it seems like Archer might have been referring to either that
A) We were one of Assassin's body doubles at the time, like Rider noticed just recently (not likely, I don't think that happened until a day or so before Rider noticed IIRC).
B) Bullshit weird-ass ties to Avenger that we may have just revealed via dream-memory intrusion.
>>
>>26250704
You forgot to mention that Merlin was completely thrown-off by our nature.
He might have been wrong.
>>
>>26250775
True. Merlin might only "know" our origin by metagaming off of Archer.

You'd think that people would stop doing that by this point though...
>>
>>26250829
Considering Merlin's tendency to act as the liaison for us to ask AC-Guy questions directly, I don't /think/ he'd make such an elementary mistake, but hey, who better to have deliver the red herring than the guy who has provided the most insight yet?

That would be kind of a low blow, though.
>>
>>26249321
>>26250645
No. Our origin changed from whatever it was to sword. It still remains sword.

Shirou can trace weapons other than swords because they're still weapons, he has even more difficulty projecting armor or shields but can do it because they fall under 'things used for battle'. Things outside of that border on completely impossible.

>>26250726
Shirou has an unusually high number of circuits - he likely would have been aware of his magical ability whether trained or not, depending on what his elements were as a child he could have done it easily. Once his origin was changed it overwrote his element and he lost the ability to do most of his magic.
>>
>>26251927
Don't assume that he's giving us anything like accurate answers.

He thought we were with Avenger, not our house, for one.

For another, he was actually visiting our dream just now because he *didn't know* what happened that day.

I'm betting he's just basing it all off Archer.

Personally, I'm thinking our element is Sword and our origin is Forge Fire or Forge (as several people have suggested already).
>>
>>26252372
...hmm. I wonder if we might still have the capacity?

I doubt Shirou's wanted to experiment with the Fire element much, so maybe...
>>
>>26252406
No. By sticking excaliburs sheathe in shirou, kiritsugu changed shirou's origin to sword - the origin of sword resonated so strongly with shirou that it overwrote whatever elements he would have had before. Rin was a prodigy not only because of her high number of circuits, her inheritence of the family origin (jewels) but also because she possessed all five traditional elements (earth, water, fire, wind and spirit). Sakura had more circuits but an incredibly strange origin (magic numbers) and only possessed like three elements (wind, water and spirit) which made her more suited to going over to the matou house (traditionally wind and water mages)
>>
>>26252440
I'm familiar with canon Shirou's Origin and Element and their source. I'm just not willing to assume that persists into F/SA. It's been a while since I last read the whole thing, but do we even *know* that Shirou was given Avalon? Do we *know* that, in that event, it had the same effect on him?

I'm just not willing to write off other possibilities because I'm familiar with canon. Especially when the answers are relatively easy to find. All Shirou has to do is try some basic fire manipulation and see if something happens...not hard.
>>
>>26252500
Not that guy, but the issue is if we're still an incarnation or not regardless of element and origin.

Have the same element and origin in the nasuverse is pant-shittingly rare and tends to let you fuck magical common sense, like in Shirou's case.

Unless our element is also Forge or whatever it means we're pulling alot more shit out of our ass then previously indicated, probably thanks to Avenger and the Grail.
>>
>>26252545
Oh...that's worrisome. I hadn't really considered the repercussions of not truly being an incarnation.

Still, I hardly think seeking to know the situation is unwise.
>>
>>26252500
>I'm just not willing to write off other possibilities because I'm familiar with canon.
This.
And IMHO "Forge" would better than "Sword" describe the way Shirou makes weapons, canon or not. He creates them in a special place (his reality marble) and then draws them to reality.

On the other hand, "Sword" fits better to reinforcing his own body.

But this comes from a guy has no idea about elements, origins and incarnations.

What if our Origin is "Origin"? Just a thought.
>>
>>26259617
I can't see how that would allow us "SWORD", though.
"FORGE," However, is a heatstroke of genius.
>>
>>26259664
Well, the way I thought about it, the Origin itself is a place or phenomenon of some sort that creates the forces of existence. Technically, it's not impossible for someone to have a connection to the Origin of "Origin", allowing the to, I dunno...emulate its capabilities. It seemed like I might have been onto something at first, but the more I think about it, the more I realize there's holes in the bridge that need to be filled.
>>
>>26259685
I also suppose I had the idea because I was thinking about the "connected to ourselves" moment with Ilya.
>>
>>26259685
A persons origin is literally the defining moment and theme of their whole existence (even moreso if you're aware of your origin). Kiritsugu was severing and binding - and he ended up shooting his own father to death (severing) and latching on to a new person (binding)... he persued the idea of justice until he saw that it was fake and thus severed himself from that idea and bound himself to a new one.

Shirou is swords - he was metaphorically made into one when excaliburs sheathe was placed into him and his defining moments were always sword related - summoning a not-quite excalibur etc eventually leading up to unlimited blade works - the incantation of which is a poem about his life.

Rin was jewels - both when she was a little girl and when she sacrificed one of her most precious jewels to save the life of a person she barely knew.
>>
>>26259756
http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Magecraft#Origin
>If a person is told what their origin is it is almost impossible to stray from actions that are in line with it.

Kiritsugu was made aware that his origin was severing and binding, and he did it all the time. Killing his own father and binding himself to his adoptive mother, killing her and binding himself to the einzburns etc
>>
>>26259756
>Rin was jewels
you sure about that?
I don't remember hearing that.

And Kiritsugu's severing also applied to his ability to cut people off from their crests and magic, didn't it?
>>
>>26259756
Ah, that makes more sense. My memories of the explanation of the Origin from the VN are fuzzy, at best, being around 18 months old now. That sheds a new light on the situation for me.

The only way someone would get an Origin like "Origin" is if they were literally born from the Origin, had a defining life moment in direct contact with the Origin (which, from my experience, usually ends up with the person not having much of an existence to speak of afterward) or a being directly connected to it then, correct? This is purely a speculative question at this point. I don't think Shirou is related to this at this point.
>>
>>26259829
Positive. its also why when shirou 'dives into her conciousness' in both the VN and the movie, he sees crystal dolphins and all sorts of jewels, she is also an amazing case where she has all five elements.

When shirou 'dives into sabers conciousness' he sees a dragon - because her origin is dragon related.
>>
>>26259756
I'm pretty sure Rin isn't jewels.

It's true she loves money but that doesn't define her existence. The fact she uses jewels doesn't say much either as that would mean Edelfelts all have similar origins.

>>26259829
Origins can be manifested in various ways. Shirou's status as an incarnation probably helps him achieve UBW as one must be devoted to the correct mindset to manifest a RM and your origin tying directly into it is pretty useful.

Kiritsugu was able to turn his Origin into a weapon resulting in the Origin bullets and the Contender. His actual elements on the other hand were Fire and Earth IIRC.
>>
>>26259887
Oh cmon you can't take the Realta Nua versions of the H scenes seriously.

You can't take the ORIGINAL scenes seriously either but you get the point.
>>
>>26259887
the movie and realta nua censorings of the sex scene can't be depended on. That was just filler so they didn't have to show or imply icky teenager sex to the families who might be watching/playing the movie and game with cursing and untold violence.
>>
>>26259893
>It's true she loves money but that doesn't define her existence.
What? The Jewel element has NOTHING to do with money. Literally nothing.
You're just spouting bullshit at this point, mate. Rin's Origin is Jewel, end of story.
>>
>>26259893
Jewels doesnt mean 'loves money'. It could easily mean 'pretty, flawless, 'perfect', and concealing of hidden depths'. It can also mean sharp, cutting and abrasive (think about a diamond for a second). *all* of her magic is jewel related (and your origin affects -how- you're able to interact with whatever elements you have, which is why it's particularly hard for one magus to teach another).

>>26259921
>>26259942
Sure you can. They do give amazing insight into the characters themselves, and when combined with other supplementary material (like arturia being at a distinct disadvantage against people like st.george or sigfried because of their history as dragon slayers) they make more sense.
>>
>>26259975
>give amazing insight

>>
>>26259960
Well I suppose I'm not right but I'm pretty sure you're not right too. Request source of claim.

>>26259975
Well there's the problem, Rin's jewel magic isn't HER magic technically speaking. The Tohsaka's 'borrowed' Edelfelt magic during the 3rd war and took the magecraft style. That includes both her Gandr and jewel magic.

Also I refer you to Kiritsugu's elements which don't have much to do with his Origin.
>>
>>26260040
>defining moment of her childhood is first being shown how to do fun jewel things by dad
>defining moment of her teen years is saving the man she would later fall in love with from death with a momento jewel she got from her father. She ends up giving this jewel to him and he carries it for the rest of his life

Totally. Not. Jewels.
>>
>>26260087
So Sakura's is never ending misery?
>>
>>26260030
I never said they don't MEAN anything, just that using them in this argument isn't really as good an example as actual exposition on the origin and elements.
If the censored scenes have as much exposition in them as the cooking scenes do, then I'd let it go, but as it is, I can't really remember anything of the sort.

This may result in me going back to play FSN, but as I don't have Realta Nua, and only have the bonus content patch, it's not gonna help me any.
>>
>>26260087
>fight against a vastly superior magus has her spending her vast trove of jewels

I'm not sure what's so hard to follow there. The realta nua sex scenes do not break the setting in any way whatsoever, and so can give a different viewpoint to the material that's already there.

>>26260040
>Also I refer you to Kiritsugu's elements which don't have much to do with his Origin.

And Rin's elements of "All fucking five of them" doesn't have much to do with her "I can only use it properly if it's in a jewel" Origin. Did you have a point?
>Request source of claim.
I don't believe it has ever been stated by any of the staff, but as can be read from the other posts, it's pretty fucking obvious. Also, jewels have nothing to do with money in this context.

Now, I would say for you all to stop bickering over something as pointless as what specific Origin Rin is, since it doesn't help us in any conceivable way whatsoever with the quest. However, you've pushed us over the bump limit now, so what the hell, go nuts.
>>
I thought the jewels were just how her family practiced magic, something about jewels being able to store prana/spells for a decently long time due to their lattice structure
>>
>>26260172
Yeah... that would happen to be a relatively long running theme of jewels as origins (remember magi tend to chose the most suitable child) and the continued development of the magic crest (where the first magi creates the crest out of their own circuits when they decide to pass it on and it is the duty of the heirs to expand it). Kiritsugu never got his own family crest (or only took part of it from the clocktower who has a method of storing crests) because their origin was simply binding and his was severing and binding - he wasn't compatible with it.

In many cases origins are so rare that it would literally be impossible to pass a crest on (such as mystic eyes of death perception - that also had a lot to do with all of the guys magic circuits being concentrated into the eyes).

Remember that magi families have fought *wars* over crests when two suitable heirs have been birthed.
>>
>>26260169
What about the Edelfelts?
>>26260257
Actually the Clocktower confiscated the Emiya crest because 'Sealing Designate'. Natalia had to pull some strings to get just a part of it returned for Kiritsugu.
>>
>>26260374
I don't see anything that suggests the edelfelts being the reason tohsaka family has jewel origins or crest. Tokiomi has a jewel origin (and the sole element of fire) and it's displayed in fate/zero.
