No time for rest, we have more VALKRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/Jr8bbA3L

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You first arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, and figh off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher.

You then moved on to Ustio, where you helped the beleaguered defenders fend off an Imperial offensive and stage a counterattack ending with the defeat of the Knight leading the Imperial forces in the area, breaking the back of the Imperial offensive.

You then returned to Gallia to help the Loyalists fight the GRA and rescue Archduchess Cordelia. You also finally decided to move on from your past and start a relationship with your longtime friend and XO, Sam. Now, you've been recruited by Lynch to destroy two Valkrur superweapons. You already managed to destroy Stonehenge, and all that is left is Excalibur.

Oh, and you asked Sam to marry you, and she accepted. Nothing possibly bad can happen from this, right?

You're now participating in the Federations offensive into Belka, in an attempt to take pressure off the main offensive in the Round Table, as well as destroy Excalibur.

Why do I get the feeling it's going into something like that "And I was just about to retire." death trope...

It's been three days since the beginning of the Federation offensive into Belka, as well as the capture of the Belkan town of Fardan. Over those past three days, the flood of reinforcements and supplies through the gap you and Freyberg's forces punched through the Imperial lines was nonstop. The past three days were spent consolidating your position, as well as sending out harassing attacks to keep the Imperials from digging in. By now, you have no doubt that the offensive has achieved its primary objective of drawing forces away from the Round Table.

However, you true target lies in the Hadrain Mountains to the west, looming over the horizon. Somewhere in there, Excalibur, and no doubt Karla, are in there waiting for you. Freyberg doesn't know what's in there, but suspects something considering the numerous orders he's received to take those mountains. The presence of SOE teams already in Belka only serve to reinforce his suspicions.

"Yes, I know you want to assault the Hadrian Mountains as soon as possible." Freyberg sighs. "And so does Federation High Command. However, we've taken heavy losses during that last battle. Almost a quarter of our M5s were destroyed or heavily damaged, and we need our supply train to catch up. But I promise, we'll be ready to move out within the week."

"Alright." You nod. "Just let us know when you're ready to go."

"I will." Freyberg sighs. "Also, I do have a little side job for you to take care of. Nothing too major. Apparently we've attracted quite a bit of, erm, 'attention'. Darcsen partisans and anti-Imperial rebels are pouring in from all over region, wanting to join our cause."

"And what does this have to with us?" You ask.

"Well, one of them claims to know a member of your unit." Freyberg says.

Well, you wonder who that could possibly be.

"Thanks, Freyberg, I'll take care of it." You say.

Well, you decide you this is something Tarin will have to know. But... this is a pretty damn big town and, like always, Tarin's pretty much disappeared. Probably terrorizing some poor Ustian recruits who think they're being haunted by some sort of phantom. You sort of suspect that Tarin deep down might be getting some sick form of amusement from that.

Well, you've sort of got a handle on how Tarin operates now. Maybe you'd actually be able to find her on your own this time.

Well, you're kind of successful, though when you do find Tarin she's not exactly trying to hide or stealth around. In fact, you find her running some sort of fight club alongside Ramirez, with Brillant going along as some sort of bookie, much to your combined amusement and horror. Ramirez, you can understand how he'd want to beat the snot out of random strangers for fun and profit. You suspect maybe she agreed to get dragged into this crazy plan just to pass the time.

Like, you already knew she could toss around men two or three times her size, which was what she was doing right now.

"Tarin!" You yell, waving her over with your 'better listen to your goddamn CO' expression. Tarin nods, knocks down her current opponent with a painful looking judo throw, and jogs over to your side of the ring.

"You need something, sir?" She asks, wiping some sweat off her brow.

"Tarin, I"m hurt." You say, crestfallen. "You guys go off and make a fight club, and don't even think of inviting me?"

"Sorry sir, we didn't know if you would approve." Tarin frowns. She's just wearing pants and a tank top, and you've got to make double sure your eyes don't wander down to her sweat soaked undershirt.

"You of all people should know I could never pass off a chance to punch a guy in the face." You laugh. "But seriously. There's a matter that's concerning you. You know about all the partisans filtering into the base, right?"

"Of course." Tarin nods.

"Yeah well, a bunch of them have been asking around for you specifically. I think they might be your old partisan buddies."

"Really?" Tarin blinks. "D-did they say why?"

"Nope. That's just what I was about to go find out. I just wanted to let you know first."

"Hey, you mind if I go with you then?" Tarin asks. There's something a bit different about her now, but you can't quite place it.

"Y-yeah." Tarin says, a bit distracted.

Okay, now you're pretty damn sure something is wrong. You've don't think you've ever seen Tarin act hesitant or flustered. She was pretty damn stoic all the time, so any display of emotion, no matter how small was pretty serious.

"Tarin, what's up?" You ask, ruffling her hair in an attempt to get her out of her funk. You're pretty sure if it was anybody else other than you trying that, they'd suddenly be short a hand.

"Well, it's because they probably know my father, which means he's either here or nearby..." Tarin bites her lip.

"Hey, thought the entire point was for us to FIND your father!" You blink.

"Yeah, well..." Tarin shifts uncomfortably. "The reason I was in Gallia was because my father didn't want me to be a soldier. He wanted me to have a normal life, not to fight Imps until I died in some far off battlefield. What's he going to think when he sees me here, doing what I've always done?"

"Hey, he's your father. I'm sure he'll understand." You say reassuringly. "I mean, what's he going to do? Send you to your room? I'm pretty confident there's no building on Europa that can hold you."

"Thanks, sir." Tarin sighs. "It's just... I haven't seen him in years. What's he going to say?"

"Well, why don't we find out." You push Tarin forward. "Count your blessings, Tarin. Unlike a lot of other people, at least you've got a father to scold you."

"...right, sorry sir." Tarin frowns.

"Ah, don't worry about it." You laugh. "Since when did you become such a big softie?"

Tarin doesn't answer, and you walk to the section of town where the Darcsens have set up camp. You immediately feel a difference in the atmosphere. Unlike the Ustian citizen soldiers, who've only been at war for a couple of years, these were hardened partisans, who've most likely been fighting since the day they were born. They shoot wary eyes at any non-Darcsens that get too close, and they're generally more reserved and quiet. Now you know why Tarin acts the way she does.

"You the guys asking around for Tarin?" You ask a group of particularly burly looking Darcsen fighters.

"What's it to you?" One of them grumps.

"Because I'm right here." Tarin says, stepping out from behind you.

"TARIN!" The big bearded burly man shoves you aside and picks up Tarin a bear hug. Both of you show a huge amount of surprise at this. "It really is you! When I heard Edwin's girl was back in the Empire, I nearly tore the tongue out of the man that told me that!"

"Nice to see you too, Uncle Mack." Tarin wheezes before slipping out of the bear hug like an oiled snake.

"And who's this little pansy here?" Mack turns to you.

A resounding CRACK resounds throughout the entire town as two mighty skulls meet in the glorious field of battle. However, in the duel of bony wills, there could only be one winner.

Mack, dazed from the sudden attack, falls flat on his ass. You stand over him, hiding the fact that headbutt hurt like HELL, and say calmly, "I'm Jager motherfucking Sturmfuhrer, and if you call me a pansy again, I'll do worse than headbutt you."

However, much to your surprise, Mack just sits up and starts laughing.

"Okay." Mack motions for both of you to sit. "It's no big secret that the Imps are up to something in those mountains. Everybody here knows it."

"Yeah." You nod. "That's why the Feds are here."

"And that's why we're here." Mack says. "Edwin wanted to find out what was so important here that the Imps would dump enough supplies to fuel several offensives. Of course, being the idiot he always is, he volunteered to go in himself as one of the work crews to see what was going on for himself."

"Whoa." You whistle. "That takes some balls."

"Typical." Tarin sighs. "He never could make one of his men do a dangerous mission when he could do it himself."

"Yeah, well, he managed to escape the the mountain facility and was due to rendezvous with us, but got picked up by an Imp patrol. Fortunately, they didn't know he was part of the work crew and didn't ship him straight back the mountain. Bad news is that they shipped him to Daznow, one of them big Darcsen prison camps they keep just outside the Belkan border."

"And you need someone to go get him out." You finish.

"Tarin's the only one of us whose got the skills to get in and out of camp like that." Mack says.

No I got you...

But I doubt there will be much to spare. We're in the middle of an invasion.

Freyburg would probably just sigh at us.

We'd be better of "commandeering" imperial transport and provisions. But realistically, I have a sinking feeling that there will be nothing we can do for the refugees in the immediate response and they will have to wait with only their grief and suffering to keep them company.

"I guess it won't hurt to let him know what's up." You nod.

Ten minutes and one quick explanation later, Freyberg sighs as he leans back in his seat.

"As if I don't have enough things to worry about, now you want to go off to liberate a prison camp?"

"Well, to be fair, it's for semi-personal reasons. I'm not asking you to provide any support or anything, considering you need all the resources you can get. but I'm just letting you know so you don't wonder where we are."

"The one thing I'm not short on is supply vehicles." Freyberg points to the endless train of trucks filing into the town. "I'm already using them to ship out wounded, so it won't be too big of a leap to use them to carry refugees to safety as well. Consider it a favor from me."

"Thanks, Freyberg." You grin. "We'll make sure not to cock everything up too bad."

"Yeah, save it for the Imps in the mountains."

You then leave Freyberg's temporary HQ and head straight for where the Demons have set up their base. Tarin already went ahead to let them know what's up and to get them mobilized.

"Sam, is everybody ready to go?"

"Armed and anxious." Sam nods, falling into place at your side. "Mack was nice enough to provide some maps of the camp."

She then leads you to where the Demons and Mack's group have formed an impromptu war council, with members from both sides huddling around a large, slightly crudely drawn map of the Daznow.

"So, here's the current plan." Mack points to the map. "The Demons will lead the main assault on the camp with their armor. Since this is just a prison camp, they shouldn't have too much in the way of anti-armor weaponry. However, our biggest issue is speed. If we're too slow, the guards might start executing prisoners to prevent them from being rescued."

"I assume that's where you come in?" You ask.

(cont)
>>
>>26263387
"Yes." Mack nods. "I've got roughly fifty fighters. Half of them are going to set up ambush position on the southern road to keep any Imp reinforcements from arriving. The rest will infiltrate the camp while the majority of the guards are distracted by your assault."

"So we're essentially the diversion." You conclude.

"Well, you've go the armor for it." Mack points out. "We may not have tanks or heavy weapons, but we're very good at sneaking. Give us twenty minutes and we'll get that camp emptied."

A few hours and some driving later, and you're on the outskirts of Daznow. Thanks to the Federation presence, you notice that there a lot fewer guards at the camp, no doubt pulled to defend Excalibur. As Mack's maps have shown, the camp is basically a big square with a large barbed wire fence on the perimeter overwatched by large watchtowers at each corner. The camp's barracks and headquarters are located near the front gate, in order to discourage escape attempts. However, that means they're pretty much highly vulnerable to a frontal attack.

"So how are we busting in?" Julia asks, Fenrir's engine growling for blood.

Unfortunately, Julia's shot is a bit off, sailing past the tower and flying off into the distance. Sam is a bit luckier, with her scoring a direct hit that blows the top of her tower off. Alek follows off by blowing the guard in the tower Julia missed apart.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth is partially successful in jamming their comms. While she can't stop them from sending out messages, she can scramble their messages enough that it'll take some time for whoever hears them to be able to decipher.

Meanwhile, guards start pouring out of the barracks to respond to the attack, and they begin taking defensive positions.

"Demons! We're going to be taking this fight up close!" You yell. "Julia busts down the gate, and we'll follow up in the Growler! Alek, give us some supporting fire!"

Fenrir's engines roar as Julia guns the engine. Thanks to the souped up engine Qyburn installed, the heavy tank moves much faster than you would think, and it barrels down the road, crush the gate under its treads and firing its cannon at the nearest target.

Following close behind is the Growler. The Stig manages to expertly keep pace with the Fenrir, as well as keeping the tank between him and the enemy. Meanwhile, up top, Ramirez fires the mounted MG as you approach.

You also hear the booming sound of Alek's ATR.

More and more guards start piling out of the barracks buildings. You don't immediately see any lances or other such anti-tank weaponry, so you can probably just stay in the Growler and use it as an impromptu bunker, though if there WAS a lance hidden in there somewhere, you'd all be one big juicy target.

Rig up a couple of guns to fire on strings and load explosives in the last few buildings.

As the enemy rolls in, trigger the guns, give the impression of the attack still ongoing.

Then blow the base.

Attacking after that is optional.

"Okay, Mack, pull your men back. We're going to leave behind a little surprise for the Imps." You say.

"Okay, good luck." Mack says.

"Heloise, Arthur!" You bark. "I want you to booby trap the FUCK out of this camp! Use all of our explosives if you have to!

Heloise and Arthur get to work, hastily trying to set down explosives and booby traps in the short time they have before the Imp reinforcements can arrive. However, they can only set a few down before you can hear the oncoming column approaching.

And you manage to get away from the camp before the Imp reinforcements can catch up to you. Some sporadic explosions rock through the camp as they enter, which slows them down long enough that you're already back behind Fed lines when they finally figure out what the hell is going on.

However, on the ride back, you notice Tarin looking anxious an nervous, and you have a feeling that it's not post-mission jitters.

"Nervous about seeing your father again?" You ask.

"Terribly." Tarin nods.

"Don't worry Tarin, no matter what happens, we've all got your back." You motion to the rest of the Demons, who nod in affirmation. "We're just as much family to as your father is."

"Thanks, sir." Tarin gives one of her rare, genuine smiles.

Why haven't we been using it recently? it would have been great against the horde of Belkan knights as well.

Yeah I wasn't reading the thread when we were doing that part or I would have suggested leaving the radio beacon behind instead of booby trapping the prison. We have these tools and we need to remember to use them.
