@GhostAdjutant

You were a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Your Codename is Delta Phoenix. You received a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. "

It seems like a lifetime since the fall of Korhal disabled your neural inhibitor and you went rogue. With the help of a rogue Dominion Marine, Jacob Henderson, you and your small crew secured a Gorgon-Class battlecruiser you now call The Daluke. Now with the help of your team you attempt to unite several fringe worlds against a looming Zerg threat before it's too late, though you can expect to be stopped at every turn by the Dominion, bounty hunters, and criminals after the huge bounty on your head.

The Dominion battlecruiser Yelon has been torn in half by Zerg forces. You have dispatched three teams to recover schematics from the battlecruiser in order to construct your own. As part of the first team you'll be killing an infestor on the bridge with the help of the Helldogs squad.

The dropship sails over the burning wreckage. Multiple hull breaches dot the upper half of the battlecruiser. Several wraiths zip past and launch missiles at the overlords clamped on to the ship. The explosions give you some solace that, perhaps, the Zerg's numbers will be reduced by the time you land. The Dropship lands on top of the battlecruiser's head and drills it's way through. You and the rest of the Helldog team drop down into one of the hallways. Lightning is sporadic, and you can hear gunfire and screams echo from each direction.

>"This is Delta Phoenix. Team one is in position, over."
>"Confirmed, Daluke reads you, Commander."

Your team moves forward. There's no resistance, but as you approach the bridge you can hear gunfire and the cries of some Zerg. You have time to engage them on your terms as the door opens.

>"Squad. Flashbang on my mark, enter and clear. Three... two... one... mark!"

You hear the familiar thunk of the grenade being launched and the subsequent bang. Your 5-man team moves in. Unfortunately the Zerg are, for the most part, unaffected by the flashbang and have ripped the remaining Dominion crew members to pieces, or worse. Two Hydralisks near the rear open fire. Elliot it instantly pinned to the wall and his lifesigns immediately drop.

Rio moves to his position, as you and the other two squad members attempt cover.

>"Don't go towards the light, Elliot!"
>"I'm ... hurt bad... here guys..."

The infestor whips nick with some sort of tentacle at Nicholas. He's unable to dodge, and meets the Zerg parasite with his face. Your team is forced back as he turns to open fire on you.

As you round the corner back outside of the door, Elliot's lifesigns read at zero. You hear Nick scream from the room, and his own lifesigns drop. Your squad is reduced to yourself and 2 members.

Er.. I thought.. Hellfire won?

Oh well. Doorknob chewing ahoy!

With psionic reflexes, despite the psionic abilities of the infestor, we should be right to feed it an irradiation grenade.

They'll all go feral, but we don't have a lot of choice here. Everyone is going to die thanks to the choices we made last thread.

Irradiate has been proven to off them before. And as we found out last time, removing the brood control massively reduces zerg combat efficiency.

We need ot get the hell out of here, and at speed. Those corruptors will be back with more zerg, and the best way to carve through these ones is to send them feral and pretend it's thanksgiving.

Your Medivac skips just over the hull of the Battlecruiser. You'll be entering through a breach to get that Egghead Mac some engine... doodads, or something. Barney, Jessie, and 4 nameless grunts are all Delta's robot lady gave you for the mission.

The ship lands next to the hole, all organic-like from being melted open by the Zerg. You step out of the Dropship and your boots magnetically stick to the battlecruiser's hull. A severed arm slowly floats past you.

>"Well looks like someone else is havin' a worse day than me."
>"Pretty sure that's always the case, Henderson."

Barney jumps down the hole first, followed by Jessie, then yourself. The ship's Schematics show up on your HUD and you so happen to notice that the living quarters - specifically the Bar, lie between you and the engines.

You decide that against all better judgement you should complete the mission you were sent here to do and not collect hard liquor, you goddamn sissy.

>"Let's get walkin', ladies. Sooner we get the Boss those engine parts, the sooner we go home."

As you continue past the living quarters - specifically as you do not go inside of them - several red-shirted Dominion marines head your way, but haven't seen you yet.

>"We've got to get to the escape pods! They've spread throughout the living quarters, it's all gone to hell!"

>1 Shoot them. Nothing in your orders about survivors.

You decide for whatever reason that no confrontation is probably the easiest way, and have your squad duck into a nearby room. The marines hustle past you, with a few loud clanks.

This is about the time barney accidentally knocks over a stack of loud cans, which shatter several bottles, knocks over a bowl and somehow sets off a fire alarm.

As the bowl slowly spins to a very loud stop and the fire alarm's klaxon sounds, Barney rubs one arm and mumbles
>"Whoops. Soh-reh."

>"Contact! Something's in that closet! Light it up!"

Cigar one goes into your mouth, you crunch down as you grit your teeth and charge headlong into the combat situation. The hall has no cover for you or the enemy squad and that means only one thing: Target practice.

Sure, some people might say this is the kind of situation where combat shields would be useful. But you know what those people don't have? Two guns. And you know what's more useful than a shield? Shooting people to death.

A stray round ricochets from one of the walls and shoots the cigar from your mouth, before bouncing again and taking out one of your squad. That shot wasn't even close. You manage to mow down all of the Dominion boys.

You hustle your squad to the engine room. Scanners read empty, but you have a bad feeling. You'll need a sentry as the other marines get whatever engine junk Mac needs.

>1 Set Barney as the Sentry.
>2 Set a nameless expendable marine as the sentry.
>3 Stand sentry yourself, because you're going to be bored anyway.

You stand as sentry at the entrance to the engine room in the vain hopes that someone will liven up your night by shooting at you. Naturally not one yellow-bellied Dominion boy or ugly-ass Zerg dares challenge you, leaving you to pull out a replacement cigar.

Several minutes pass before one of the Nameless marines steps up.

>"Sir, we've recovered the primary coupling, we'll be able to reverse engineer blah blah blah I'm a big egghead I don't even know how to hold my C-14 right."
>"Alright then, everyone pack it up, we're headin' back to the Dropship!"
>"I've got motion, sir! Something is coming up through the-"

Before the man can even finish, several Banelings pop through the floor paneling. Rounds and promethium pelt the blobby little things as they roll towards your squad. You hear the familiar pops and sizzle of acid.

>"Argh!"
>"Mother..."

The blast blows the Cigar clean out of your mouth. Hell, at this rate you'll never get one lit. Your squad is reduced to members you know the names of. That's never good...

>"Daluke to Team 2. Commander confirms the infestor is terminated. Expect all Zerg to go feral, over."

You wave Barney and Jessie on. It's time to get the hell out of here. Barney picks up the crate of engine junk and hobbles along behind the two of you.

Another suicide mission. You don't mind it. It's much easier to find a cause to die for, than find something to live for.

The Hercules will be pulling alongside the rift between the two ship halves. Your mission is to stabilize the reactor, then collect the primary coolant shield once everyone is ready to evac. It'll give you several minutes before the whole thing goes Nuclear.

The problem is that the reactor's actual room is connected to two different parts of the ship, and there's a lot of space between them. Meaning the entire back half of the room is missing, and part of the reactor is just floating free in space.

>1 Mag Lock next to the reactor room and walk to it in the interior.

You read the briefing. Don't go forgetting major details. Who are you, Delta?

The Zerg pulled out to reinforce. This is your only window of air superiority. There are no zerg fliers and your Wraiths are running interference on overlords. You can call in wraith or Valkyrie strikes if you need them.

The loud scuttle of roaches becomes more distinctive as they approach. They all scuttle through the door at once, going over walls, the floor, and the ceiling as they have to cling to something in the zero gravity environment.

>"Yeah! Get some! C'mon baby I can do this all day! All daaaaayy!"

You bide your time, waiting for the punisher grenades to blow off chunks of armor before you drill the weak points. The last roach goes down, losing it's grip on the flooring as it does, and flies off out of the rear of the room.

The numbers, however, are overwhelming. Your marines duck and dive, their stutter-steps are admirable, but even the greatest warriors make mistakes. A single baneling makes contact and one marine goes down, the rest are seriously wounded, but still in the fight. Hopefully your Medic will be able to get them back to normal.

>"Get the data! All units, defensive positions!"

You look behind you. The sun you orbit is blocked by the numbers coming into space. Everyone goes silent. Not a sound to be heard in the vacuum of space.

Their sweet caress grazes the ship. It's loveless. Their hooks sink in. Behind an angel's disguise, an insect flies. Mandibles cut like a knife. The reckoning...

Forming clouds, their shadow shrouds. Louder, the tattered wings they sound. Descending down. They come. The swarm of Locusts.

>"Contact - all vectors! There's too many of them!"
>"Open fire! Open fire!"
>"Cover me I'm reloading!"
>"Tyrone! Get back! Use your stims!"
>"MEEEEEDDDIICCC!"

Your position is hopelessly over-run. Your men fall back, those who don't are torn limb from limb. Tyrone jumps past you, possibly the only survivor apart from the marine with the case full of shielding. He falls to the ground as seven or eight Zerglings swarm over him. His last living action is to throw the brief case towards the Daluke. You intercept it, then push off into the space between ships. Tyrone is already onboard, his hand extended to grab you if you get close enough. The wave of Zerg has leap after you, zergling wings twitch pointlessly as they snarl and swipe at your feet. One tangles with your cord and pulls itself up to your face. Your rifle is knocked free.

You draw the combat knife sheathed on your shoulder and gut the Zergling, before you're pulled aboard the Hercules.

>"Get us the hell out of here, Ensign!"

>Loading Mission Parameters, Daluke Actual.

Overlords are basically just supply units, though they may be able to carry ground troubles inside them

Mutalisks are fast and lightly armored units that have an attack that bounces from target to target, one of the best harrassment unit in the game.

Corruptors are the 'heavy anti air' unit, but they work better against capital ships.

Another explosion rocks the ship. Docking bays are reporting damage and the Zerg have damaged multiple turrets. It's time to go.

Time was not a luxury available in that situation, Commander.

Other crew members do not have immediate access to an Adjutant A.I. and must make less informed decisions in quicker periods of time.

Discussion phase:
>Option

Voting phase:
># Option.

This has been the attempted standard, although there have been exceptions. It is prudent to always assume that numbered options signal a legitimate vote.
>>
Honestly even with the 'time limit' I would have waited for more people to vote. You don't have just wren here after all. We aren't actually playing an RTS, its a quest.
>>
>>26281195
An 'implied condition of the mission'? I'm sorry, but one thing I've learned in this quest is that if we assume ANYTHING, then we're making a bigass mistake. Unless the question was "Can we use the Banshee?" then it had relevance to mission success.
>>
>>26281227
Figured as much.

I understand the idea of 'quick reflexes' to reply, but man, we make bad decisions when we have like an hour to discuss before hand.

Having to make reckless decisions doesn't help our track record...But maybe I'm just slightly depressed because of all the death around us.

Can, uh, I get a list of casualties after we make it to safety?

>>26281285
The Daluke had no other objectives and was already in fire support range of the transports, as it was already providing fire support.

You step onto the bridge just as you hear the XO
>"Mark!"

The familiar pull of Warp space replaces the endless Zerg swarm with the blue-green orb that is Murric. The XO turns to face you with the news.

>"We lost everyone aboard the Centennial Hawk except for Whiskey. He's coming onboard with the last bit of the Schematics now."

You look at the damage control. The Daluke's taken a major beating. Most systems are online. The fact that it completed the jump in one piece is a mystery. In fact, you might've found the ship in better condition than it's in now.

>"How bad are our casualties, XO?"

>"Let me put it like this, sir. I'm contacting our ground base to bring SCVs off of mining to begin repairs before the ship's pulled apart by gravity. You're going to want to keep your suit on in case we lose life support, and the Valkyries are in defensive positions."

You bring a hand to your forehead. Your recent losses have been far too heavy.

>"Do what needs to be done then, XO."
>"Aye, sir. It'll be a good amount of time before-"

You sense something behind you and attempt to turn around, when Whiskey's fist makes contact with your jaw. You stand your ground despite the blow and turn back to face him.

>"You dumb Bitch! They can resoc your brain to grey goo but they can't make you fuckin' think, can they?! No intel on anything, combat effectiveness is critical by -militia- standards, and you see a battlecruiser you think you can steal and you send us all headlong into hell with no regard for anyone's safety!"

>"Whiskey, I-"

>"No! You split us up for no good reason! You doomed each of your squads for a -secondary- objective! For what, so you could build more battlecruisers?! You have less SCV's than a single mining asteroid! You have two mining operations! I -shit- more minerals than you can mine in a day right now because you've been trying to rush out combat units to poke out eyes for no reason!"

I do not understand you, Commander. Assuming the Daluke will not provide fire support as the Daluke is currently providing firing support seems highly illogical.
>>
>>26281417
Gotta remember we AREN'T logical. At all. We don't make the connections to things and remember the details that you do.
>>

The order at that time was 'Attack Overlords' not 'Provide fire support'. Forgive me for taking it literally when NOT taking it literally has gotten us into trouble before.

No, now you're just being an asshole.
>>
>>26281485
The overlords were directly threatening the dropships.

By definition, destroying these overlords meant that you were focused on defending the dropships, literally providing direct fire support, Commander.
>>
>>26281503
The overlords were threatening the crew retreating to the dropships. They couldn't threaten the dropships themselves as overlords can't attack air targets, nor deploy a sufficient amount of anti-air units to really stop the dropships in time.

>"Whiskey, just listen to me-"

Henderson and Mia walk aboard the bridge, now that they're ship-board as well.

>"I'm done listening to you. Your whole situation here is FUBAR to the highest degree. These people are lucky they're not dead already. You've won a couple hearts playing freedom fighter, but I'm out."

Whiskey turns and storms off without another word. Henderson raises a hand to touch his shoulder as he passes, but he just shakes it off.

Mia looks at you, sullenly.
>"We lost all of Screaming Eagle wing. Purple Squadron's still kicking but... beat up."

Henderson shrugs.
>"Don't pay him too much attention, boss. He'll cool off an' come back around. He's just sore about losin' good folks is all."

You doubt that, and you can sense Henderson does as well. You turn back to the XO.

>"I... don't recommend any more missions for a while, sir."

>"I think you're right, XO."

Alright, if you want to play it that way... If we're so bloody large, why weren't we able to literally hover right on top of where the Hercules went down? How could the Zerg have hit the escape pods if the Daluke was RIGHT THERE, being huge?

But these facts aren't the issue here, the issue is that in this quest you give us as little information as possible. We have to pry the tiniest bit of it out of you. And as Sal would have known this OBVIOUSLY OBVIOUS information without even needing to think about it, how can you say that providing us (who are not Sal) with that information should cause us to time out the split second decision?

>>
>>26281629
What did Whiskey do at the end of this? Did he leave or just went to sulk in a corner?
>>
>>26281638
You were.

The question was not where the Daluke was deployed, but what it was shooting at.

The Zerg were just so Numerous that size wasn't everything.

More importantly, the Hercules was between two halves of a burning, nearly-nuclear battlecruiser, under fire from nimble mutalisks who are faster than your fighter. It didn't have far to go, but the distance it had to go was -incredibly- dangerous.

But to be honest, it doesn't matter. The choices at their core were "risk transports to save hero" and "risk heroes to save transports".

The chances of survival were identical either way. It was a tradeoff question, not a "x or y" question.
>>
>>26281646
A lot, that's 21 days.

I need a lot of redshirts because this was the easiest of the 'new planet' missions.

I suggest you pick things that have been on the list for a while. Obviously.

>>26281653
You rolled a 4 on damage to the Daluke.

4 out of 100.

It's a hero so it got a reroll to save it, but damage is serious, you lost a lot of crew that I still have to roll for exact numbers on.

Delta's going to add this one to her "I fucked up" nightmares. It also increased her spectre side effects because of emotional stress, but I can't go into details on what that means yet cuz lolspoilers.

You'll recover.

>>26281670
He left the ship.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him yet.

He might go back to Alpha. He might start his own rogue faction. I don't know.
>>
>>26281674
I don't care what kind of question it was, that's not really important. What I care is that you accepted only a single answer. A single answer from a fucking retard that I could have at least made into a coin flip if I didn't have to worry about the dangers of assumptions in this quest.

A worry that, I think, you've been trying to bring about in us anons.
>>
>>26281712
Course. I want to do the old Hive World mission next, because I expect light to medium Zerg resistance and, once vaporized, maybe a really nice series of bases?

Course, things can always go wrong, thus is the core of the Xcom system you have in place...but I hope we can get at least a couple more bases that way.

I figured the emotional stress would make the Spectre shit worse...feels like it'll eventually turn us into a cold hearted killer. Who knows though.

Whiskey better not go back to Alpha...that shit would suck.

Uh...did...Charlie make it by the way?

You have to balance the worry with the lack of information.

That's the game. That's always been the game. Now I just put a timer on it when it's really hard mode missions.

The difficulty will continue to ramp up, both realistic and artificial, as you put yourself in increasingly difficult situations and don't pay attention to information you've already received.

It's not like I didn't specifically tell you, several times, in this thread alone, that you only have 4 minutes. When there's 2-3 minutes between receiving your answer and voting there's still a problem. I don't know which vote was yours exactly but I still have people casting votes after I've already posted the results, sometimes.

If you're that slow you're going to die, Commander.
>>
>>26281712
Also would like to point out why anons ended up doing the new battleship mission, I feel like: Is because it felt time dependent, which it probably was.

It's unfortunate that so many felt like rushing out to get it but there's not much to do now but try and fix things... I just wish we could explain ourselves to NPCs better, other then saying "Well 10 people run my brain so purple tastes good."
>>

And no, it wasn't me, it was mostly the dice rolls and the fact that you were not only on this mission, but decided to do it Scooby-Doo style.

I just didn't make it easier on you when I could have.

I haven't violated any of my usual modus operandi other than taking off the kid gloves.

No one complained when I did it the last time in the Daluke-fighting-Dominion-Battlecruisers-Over-Murric thread.

Even after me specifically not telling you that moving would cause them to nuke 17.3 million people and just letting you do it.

In that case it was because if I told you, you would've stood your ground and possibly lost the Daluke to some poor rolls, which would've been really bad.

I'm not arguing this any more. If, for any reasons you listed, you can't participate then you can't play the game and need to work on your own personal problems. I'm not handicapping difficult. It's not going to happen no matter how much you bitch.

Thus is the law of Starcraft.
>>
>>26282019

You'll get heroes as time goes on, but only 1 of each unit type with the exception of ghosts.

So, for example, you can never replace Tyrone with a hero marauder, but you can -create- a hero marauder if one of them accidentally acquires a name and personality, thus promoting him up from redshirt status.

Also you already have your hero scientist who you shouldn't lose seriously how would you even do that.

Losing Whiskey like this was annoying; almost losing her to the Protoss was soul-crushing though. If we had died then and there, I would have seen it as an amazing end to this campaign.

Speaking of which, would you actually kill us off completely if the situation/and or dice demanded it? I'm guessing yes, but I don't think it's ever been clearly asked.

The medivac is a hero medivac who has not had an opportunity to shine yet.

You're gonna like it though.
>>
>>26282544
We roll a 1 on a 'talk to the scientist' roll.

If half-assed meant "recoloured" and "applied grafitti", then he means it.
>>
>>26282544
>Create hero
...Do you mean you want us to actually name them and shit? Or by chance would one do something heroic and earn himself a name?
>Picturing that scene from Order of the Stick where the guy is dying and someone says his first name.
>Perfect

Also
>How would you even lose a scientist
And then people wanted to do a boarding party using the Daluke.
>>
>>26282566
She'll be awake in 3 weeks. I dunno how she'll feel about the whiskey thing yet.

If the dice demands it you will die. DP has normal hero saving throws but every hero unit will 'sacrifice' themselves to save her, first, if possible.

So every time a hero dies, you can blame yourself.
>>
>>26282574
Oh, sweet. I look forward to it then...I hope it's saving us from some mind numbingly stupid decision.
>>
>>26282620
not at this rate.
>>
>>26282609
Again, I'd like to ask...how do we explain to Charlie our brain is divided into 15 segments?

The problem with most social interaction in Quests, I feel...justifying erratic behavior.
>>
>>26282589
This guy gets it.

It's even poorly-mouse-drawn graffiti.

I am sorry original artist. ;_;

>>26282590
No. Just you happen to have a marauder on a mission, let's say. And somehow he rolls a 100 vs an ultralisk and brawls it with his gloves and you suddenly have a British fisticuffs marauder because his randomly generated name was Barleyton Appletrousers or something.

He'd be a hero unit mechanically after something cool like that.
>>
>>26282641
possibly by blaming the Terrazine
>>
>>26282641
So it's funny.

I actually have the solution but I can't tell you.

And you won't find until you've 'won' the quest.

And it makes sense you wouldn't know.

So any excuse that anons believe is what DP believes, and thus what she will tell people.
>>
>>26282645
Heh, well you made it look Barney appropriate, is that better?

>Barleyton Appletrousers
Please save that. That's gold. A British Marauder. My sides will never return.
>>
>>26282609
...We really need to find those Mercy drivers.

DP's nightmares are going to start blending into reality at this rate, and especially with all of the Spectare bs. I wonder what will happen first, our death or our mental breakdown...
>>
>>26282544
Didn't Wrenloft submit a character idea to you over twitter? DId it actually come through and who was it?
>>
>>26282670
Well shit.
Fine then...any idea how high the thread count will go, you think? Just curious really.
>>
>>26282689
not enough canon to support or deny it. It's on ice.
>>
>>26282686
You have actually been rolling against hallucinations (among other things) since the first treatment and not failed once.

I probably shouldn't tell you that because now someone's going to be like "No that Ultralisk is a hallucination let's ignore it." and get everyone killed.

>>26282689
Yeah, Protoss-raised kid.

I'm not sure how to fit it in. It's a pretty bland concept and I originally considered it for 'Kassix' but I scrapped it because I didn't know if it could 'fly' in lore.
>>
>>26282703
Probably 50-75.
>>
>>26282670
Also regarding character death:
Should DP actually kick the bucket due to some unfortunate circumstance, will we end the quest there? Or shall we jump consciousness to the next available hero?

I assume you have a contingency plan, by this point. You'd be crazy not to.
>>
>>26282721
We've learned, I think.
Never ignore hallucinations. They actually CAN hurt you, making Sentries incredibly OP

...not sure how to feel about that.
>>
>>26282737
I'll probably end the quest.

I might start another quest in a different universe, though.

>>26282757
Nope, not true.

That wasn't a Hallucination you were fighting. That was just how you visualized the 'psionic battle' so to speak.
>>
Also for the record, we're not archived yet
>>
>>26282773
That's the "you guys are going to fuck up and die" estimate.
>>
>>26282773
With everyone who doesn't know shit about starcraft's lore and gameplay, it'll be a miracle if we ever got that far
>>
>>26282791
We are. It's between 15 and 17.

I have no idea why but it's recording them out of order.
>>
>>26282783
>A new quest
Huh...well alright. Keep me posted with Twitter then I suppose.

>Visual representation of psionic battle
AND WE LOST BECAUSE WE DIDN'T DO THE LOGICAL THING OF THROWING A HELLFIRE AT A GOD DAMN ROACH

>Capatcha uunable How
YES CAPATCHA THAT IS VERY HOW
>>
>>26282803
Oh...well shit. Good then
>>
Alright I sleep.

Night guys.
>>
>>26282886
Goodnight Adjutant.

Farewell fellow anons, may tomorrow we fix our mistakes.
>>
>>26282898
i doubt it.

we'll probably just make more.
>>
>>26282544
Accident with labs and changelings and doorknob chewing, I think.

Two threads missed and everyone fucked our crew over

I mean really?

The amount of stupidity within this thread is astounding

holy shit you guys are the dumbest fucking rocks to make these decisions and think they're good. Holy shit its like playing with fucking kindergartners that doesn't understand why we lose so much and gain so little. Fucking seriously the rage within me is huge.

I fucking hate you all (except you adjutant you're still cool)
>>
>>26283123
so I just read the last two threads and whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
>>
>>26283123
>>26283645
I just did as well, missed due to timezone and sleep, why?
As i was going through the thread i even thought, why do we need this, we need a fusion core and a tech lab on a starport to even begin thinking about building them anyway.
>>
>>26283123
fucking this, I disappear for the weekend and these cunts ruin everything, fuck this, fuck them, I'm out

Adjy, good fucking luck getting to 30 threads with these morons at the helm let alone 50-75
