You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

It’s Tuesday afternoon, just after school. You’ve had a fairly productive day so far – you’ve picked up a new minion, you’ve kept your dark hungers under control, and Avril and Jill, the Fae princess who bound herself to your service and your telekinetic best friend, are apparently getting on very well indeed. They’re both going to be busy with their date tonight, so you’ve decided to follow up on a loose end – the enormous wolf that attacked you on Saturday, which was finally driven off by Jill embedding one of her mother’s silver spoons in its side. Demons, faeries, and psychic powers are apparently all real. Werewolves don’t seem like much of a stretch any more.

Confronting the responsible party may be a little tricky, though. You’re fairly sure of your target – Zack Stewart, another student in your year who showed up yesterday limping on the same leg which the wolf injured. He didn’t seem very certain about the source of his injuries, though. He may not have any idea what you’re talking about. And if he does know what’s going on, things could get dangerous.

Locating Zack isn’t too hard. He’s smoking round the side of the bike sheds again. There’s a few other guys and a girl smoking too, but when he sees you he steps away from the group a little. “Hey, Chris. What’s up, man?”
>>

How do you want to approach this?

[]Ask him straight up about the wolf attacks. Push hard and see if he spills anything.
[]Make small talk about rugby and so on, and try to lead him around to asking about where he was Saturday night.
[]Just try to befriend him first – save the werewolf stuff for a later conversation. It’s more important to have him on your side.

We need to get him to trust us first; then we can get him to confide in us, followed by offering to help him gain control over his inner beast and make him into our meatshield.

"I just figured you seemed like a cool guy, really. Thought I'd come and say hi. I saw the last rugby match, you were awesome."

Zack chuckles a bit. "Aw, man, I'm just part of the team, you know? We all try our best. Thanks, though."

"So how do you guys do it? It seems like there's a lot of tactics involved in rugby, not just the running and passing and so on."

"Oh, absolutely! I mean, Mr Heath, the coach, he sets a lot of the overall strategy, but when you're in the middle of the pitch you have to think pretty fast..."

It's not hard to get Zack talking about rugby, and he's happy to expound at length on tactics, training, how great the rest of the team are, and how happy he is to be a part of it.

Eventually you realise that it's time to head home - the other smokers have left while Zack was talking. Zack gives you a pat on the shoulder and tells you you're alright, before jogging off into town. Looks like his leg is all better now, at least.

When you get home, your mother is noticeably pleased to have you back before dinner for once. You head up to your room and ponder what to do with your free evening. It seems like it's been forever since you last had nothing at all to worry about.

[]Turn on your computer and do some research.
[]Try to meditate for a bit - it may be harder to interpret than a computer, but it's served you well so far
[]Just relax. You've got the evening off - enjoy it.
[]Go out into town - do some shopping, make plans.

If we finish the project, we don't have a viable excuse to invite Isabella over for awhile.

I say procrastinate, head out into town, and attempt to just see what is going on around town.

We should do research into werewolves; how to find them, detect them, fight them, and contain them.

I have to question the wisdom of feeding our Darkest Self and giving in to its desires.
It will consume us, it will control us, and it is far too enamored with its own self-aggrandizement to last against entrenched powers for long.
>>
>>26335781
Fundamentally yes, to get fruedian; it is pure ID and we are the ego and have to meet reality.

I'm not sure how you guys, and feel free to speak up, but I think we should feed it trivialities so it will allow is rein on things that matter but I can see the wisdom in total abstinence.

> feed it trivialities
So facepwn noobs in Starcraft?

>>26335623
MHQ stronk!
>>
>>26335875
My fear is that the more we allow it those "trivialities", the stronger it shall become. Eventually it will become stronger than us, and we will have lost control of our body, our mind, and our unlife.
>>
>>26335875
I think its worth sharing the body with.

We always make the final choice, but the more we indulge our ID, the more assistance it will garner.
>>
>>26335983
It doesn't want to share our body, it wants to take it over.
This isn't a partnership, it's a siege.
>>
>>26335949
Its not losing control so much as becoming enlightened by our own ability.

There are plenty of incredibly good people, who crave mass amounts of power.
>>
>>26335875
I feel that we should be extremely wary, especially now that our darkest self has manifested as its own personality. We already feed it by feeding our hungers- I don't want to give in to any of its other demands.

Like >>26335949, I worry about it overpowering us, but I also worry about us becoming more like it in our own right until it doesn't even need to strong arm us because we'll be in agreement. I see buying a suit as the first step down that road, and it worries me.
>>
>>26335983
you trust the evil manipulative power-hungry version of us far too much, buddy
>>
>>26336021
I dont think that's how it works... Mechanically.

we control ourselves whether a weak ghoul or powerful ghoul.
>>
>>26336025
Our Darkest Self is not good, and only cares about the acquisition of power and feeding its Hungers.
It will harm people if it is expedient to do so, or it feeds a Hunger. It has no reason to stop on its own.
>>
>>26336025
True, not many of them though advocate full scale war for the sake of gaining the chance at personal power though.
>>
>>26336049
Whats not to trust?

The reason he exists is to make us powerful and strong.

The only thing we should be concerned about is our own moral standing. Do we feed puppies or kick them? Thats for us to decide really.

Ive said my piece.
>>
>>26336108
it's less feed the puppies or kick them or feed the puppies vs killing them raping the corpse and eating them for the giggles. If the Darker self has a good idea sure follow it but it seems far to self destructive versus the chance of long term gain.
>>
>>26335587
You grab your Biology project folder and get to work. You've got a lot of the work already done, so it's mostly just a case of tidying up the presentation and getting things in order. By the end of the night, you're fairly satisfied that Mr Coombs won't be able to find any serious faults in your project, and will have to content himself with critiquing your choice of font, paper colour, and margins. (You once saw him criticise one student for using Times New Roman on an essay instead of Arial, and the next one for using Arial instead of Times New Roman.)

The next morning, the mood at school seems somewhat sombre. Another assembly is called during registration, at which it's explained that a short memorial service for Sally will be held after school for those who wish to attend. No more disappearances or attacks have been reported, but all pupils are encouraged to remain vigilant and keep safe.

Geography is fairly quiet. Even Jason seems rather subdued by the assembly, although he's not stopped slouching in the corner. Masami and Jill share a table with you, but it doesn't look like they're in the mood to chat much. The Indian guy - Ajani? - is glowering at everyone. Mr Stokes is here on time, but the lesson keeps lapsing. The whole class seems troubled.

Biology is next.

You look over to James, and quietly beckon him over from where he's currently sitting (next to Ajani). You see Ajani scowling a bit, but James grabs his things and moves over.

"Hey, Chris. You, ah... need something?" James is twirling his hair around his finger a little and grinning at you.

"How about some more information? What's Ajani's deal?"

"Oh, right. Uh... it's kinda complicated, and you probably wouldn't believe half of it."

"James, you have no idea of the kind of stuff I've had to believe lately. Just try me."

"Okay, so... he's kind of got this vigilante thing going on. He goes out patrolling at night, looking out for criminals and so on. And apparently he's seen some weird stuff out there. Really weird. I haven't seen any of it myself, but... I'm pretty sure he wouldn't lie to me. He's a pretty straightforward guy in a lot of ways." James sighs. "Way, way too straightforward sometimes. Which brings me to something else I wanted to mention..."

James twists round in his seat a little, glancing over his shoulder at Ajani, and at Isabella, then turns back to you. "This little arrangement of ours seems a bit one-sided at present. What do I get out of it?"

You give James your best predatory smile. "Then again, everyone has a price. Forget about what I'm offering you, the more pressing question is, what do you want?"

James raises an eyebrow. "That's not the first time I've heard that question. Still, I suppose if you can help... It's about Ajani, really. Keeping him from getting out of hand. Reminding him who he ought to be concentrating on, thinking about, caring for..."

James is twirling his hair around his finger again, glancing over at Ajani. "Mm. Sooner or later. Anyway. You want me to keep watching your back, getting you information. I want... well. I want Ajani. And he wants me, even if he doesn't know it yet." James gives you a quick, rakish grin at that last sentence, and as Mr Coombs comes in, he picks up his things and heads back over to where he was sitting before, leaving you to ponder things on your own for the rest of the lesson.

Mr Coombs reminds everyone that next Wednesday is the deadline for the joint Biology coursework, and Isabella shoots you a dark look, which you answer with a calm smile. She frowns a bit more, but doesn't get up to come talk to you.

You check the library first, but there doesn't seem to be anyone there. No-one back in the stacks, either. You spot Jill and Avril quickly enough once you look outside - Jill is sitting under a tree, flicking through a book, while Avril is slowly but carefully dancing across the grass. As you get closer Avril grins and waves at you, and you hurry over.

"Hi, Chris!" Avril gives you a quick hug. Jill gets up too, although she hangs back a bit.

"Hi girls." You glance over to Jill. "So how did last night go?"

Jill blushes. "Uh... it was nice. A lot quieter than Saturday or Monday, we just had a nice time, went out to eat... I'd like to do it again some time."

Avril kisses her on the cheek. "Of course, sweetie. Any time you like. Although I should spend some time with Chris now and then too."

"Right. Of course." Jill doesn't look altogether happy, but she goes and picks up her book, sits down and starts reading again.

"So... you and Jill had quite a nice time last night. How nice, exactly?" You give Avril an exaggerated leer, and she laughs and rolls her eyes. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I didn't get into her pants. Jill wants to take things slow and get to know me first. Unlike *some* people. I think it'll be a while before there are any sordid details to recount."

"Right, of course. And in the library at lunch, that was just you helping her look for a book?"

You glance over Avril's shoulder and notice that Jill is blushing as she looks at her book and pretends she's not listening, and Avril is blushing a bit too. "We were just kissing. Mostly. Jill gets all adorably flustered when I kiss her, it's so sweet." She grins, walks over to where Jill's sitting, and bends down to put a finger under Jill's chin. When Jill obediently tilts her head up, Avril gives her a long, deep kiss, which does indeed leave her looking torn between embarrassment and wanting more in a very adorable fashion.

"So, that wolf." Avril is suddenly looking a lot more serious. "Jill told me that a silver spoon hurt it. If it's a werewolf, then it's not going to be scared of humans or guns like a normal wolf. It'll keep killing. Do we have a plan for how we're going to kill it first?"

{}"I'll figure something out. We've got a month to plan."

Avril breaks in, smiling. "Excellent! It's only the wolf that needs silver to kill, that'll save us a lot of trouble."

"I said I *think* I know who it is. We can't just kill him on the off chance he's a werewolf. And besides, I don't think he has any control over his actions, he doesn't seem to remember what he did. I think we should try and help him, see if we can get him on our side and keep his wolfish side under control."

Avril blinks, then stares at you. "You're serious. You're actually seriously going to try and help this guy, who nearly killed your sister and her friend and tried to kill you too. First you want to befriend a Deep One, now you want to befriend a werewolf. Chris, as much as I love you, you should know that you are so incredibly fucking naive sometimes. Not everything can be solved with diplomacy and niceness and the power of friendship. A werewolf is much too dangerous to let run around loose. If this guy isn't just playing with you, and really doesn't know what he's doing, that's a pity. But it doesn't make him any less of a threat."

"He could be a powerful ally as well as a powerful threat, couldn't he? And if he does turn out to be a rabid dog, I'd like to see if we can help him before we put him down."

Avril sighs. "That's a pretty good metaphor, considering that once a dog goes rabid it can't be cured. But you're the boss. Anything else?"
>>
Avril has a point about being too nice.

>>26339723
"Yeah, I need to make this guy Ajani fall for this other guy James. Can i rely on you to help me out?"
>>
>>26339723
"Damn right I'm the boss. You seem to be forgetting that lately. Anyway, I also found out that Ajani, the Indian in our Geography class, is apparently some kind of vigilante. One of my pawns wants me to persuade him of a few things. Need to find the time for that in my schedule."
>>
>>26339723
Yeah- What do you know about this guy Ajani? It sounds like he's taken to snooping around at night looking for wrongs to right. If he runs into something unusual, he could either get killed or find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes, and I'm not sure sure which would be worse- for him and for us.
>>
>>26339723
"i know too well that not everything can be solved with niceness, i wish i didnt learn that the hard way.
this rabid dog also happens to be a human. we will not know if the human take control over the dog until we try.

moving on to more amusing matter, i am the school matchmaker now it seems"
>>
>>26339723
((Okay, writing now.))
>>
>>26339723
"It's not about befriending him, its about reaching out and showing him what he is; how he can control it and if he can't control it then how he can keep it chained. He shouldn't have to die because he's different, not at least when we can help him."
>>
>>26340054
"There is one other thing, actually. This guy in my Geography class, Ajani.. apparently he's some sort of vigilante. Goes out at night looking for crime to fight, wrongs to right, etc. One of my pawns wants me to set him and Ajani up, and I was wondering if you had any advice. I presume I can rely on you to help me out?"

Avril nods. "I'll help however I can. The name doesn't ring a bell for me, though. What's this guy look like?" You give her a brief description of Ajani. "I don't think I have any classes with him. I'd have to get to know him a little better to pick out any psychological weak points for manipulation and so on. The vigilante business is a little worrying - he might be stubborn if he's the sort to decide he knows better about crime and so on than the police, or he might be someone who's seen things that the police can't deal with. Be careful when dealing with him. Who's the other guy, this pawn of yours?"

"Guy named James. He's in our Chemistry class. Long hair, a bit effeminate, kind of mean."

Avril nods. "Yeah, I know who you mean. Haven't talked to him much. He's one of your minions now? Keep an eye on him. He doesn't seem like the trustworthy sort."

"I know, but he's useful for now. And there's no reason not to help him if it gets us information we need."

Avril nods. "Okay, I'll see if I can get to know this Ajani guy at some point. One other thing. Masami. Have you had any more thoughts about what we're going to do with her?"
>>
>>26340472
"About Masami... I think your advice is sound. She's a good friend, but nothing worth fawning over if it means our heads. Lets just cross that bridge when it comes, and let the chips fall where they may"
>>
>>26340472
"Not yet, her family won't know anything about changing her state in a positive way, so I'll have to look elsewhere."
>>
>>26340472
I want to get her alone for some serious questioning- She'll have more detail on her condition than you were able to glean, and I don't doubt she'll tell me- she seemed pretty proud of her heritage, in fact. Actually, I think she might be kind of sweet on me, which may help, and she's friends with Jill- Jill, are you alright with with talking to Masami with me? In either case, I don't want to hurt her unless it becomes unavoidable, just like I don't want to hurt our werewolf. I don't want to be the kind of person who could hurt someone needlessly- not a stranger, and particularly not a friend.

And look at Avril meaningfully.
>>
>>26340472
"nothing. i consider her a friend, though i am aware of the risks and therefor careful. i will not be doing anything to her unless she does something first. you will not be doing anything to her either."
also we should 'eat' avril around tonight or tomorrow so kiss her and add:
"i am going to take you to your favorite spot in town tonight, the bench in the park."
>>
>>26340472
((Ok, writing, I'll try and fuse the various answers together. Also, I know we're only about 6 hours in due to the late start, but I'm starting to noticeably flag, so I think we'll have to break for the night soonish.))
>>
>>26340903
"I've taken your warnings to heart, don't worry. I know the risks. She's still a friend, though. I don't want to hurt her unless she tries to hurt me first. I don't want to be the kind of person who could hurt another without provocation - particularly not a friend." You give Avril a meaningful glance, and she glares right back at you. "It's a bit late for that, don't you think?"

"Yeah, well... that's why I'm trying to be better. Anyway, I want to see if we can find any other options. I might see if I can get her alone for some proper questioning - her family probably won't have told her about ways to stop her change, but she might know something useful nonetheless. I think she might be kind of sweet on me, which might help, and she's friends with Jill. Just make sure you don't do anything to her unless she does something first, all right?"

Avril frowns a little. "All right, sir. You're going to be spending more time with her?"

"I'm not going to stop spending time with you and go off with her, if that's what you're worried about. In fact, we should go out tonight. You said the bench in the park was your favourite spot in town, didn't you? Let's go there."

Avril laughs. "It's not much of a date on its own, but sure. That would be nice, actually." She smiles. "Right, we need to get to class. See you tonight."

Avril gives you a deep kiss, then nudges Jill, who shyly leans forward and gives you a peck on the cheek before they head off to class, hand in hand.

Jill is such a delicate little flower.

I think we need to set up a meet with Isabella to finish the project up with whatever she has to offer.
>>
>>26341469
((Okay, next thread will be Thursday, when I should hopefully be both less busy and better recovered from the weekend, and will actually start at 19:00GMT like they're supposed to. Leave questions, comments, etc. below, and I'll do my best to answer them, probably next thread.))

Do we have a father?
>>
>>26341668
We do, he's just usually either at work or decompressing.
>>
>>26341738
((Yeah, Chris' father has shown up once or twice, such as at dinner in thread 8, but he's something of a workaholic, and doesn't do much in the way of active parenting.))
>>
>>26341738
>Yeah, decompressing can be a serious bitch. One time i ended up puking inside the chamber, and they put me on a Table6a. That's almost a seven hour chamber ride, breathing 100% O2 almost the entire time.

Longest decompression ever.

>>26341845
Cool. Just curious. For the sake of the story, does Chris have effectively all the petty cash he needs for random things? Or are we burning a bank account?
>>
>>26341845
Could this have something to do with our hanging ourselves? Do we remember why we did that?
>>
>>26341928
((Chris gets a reasonable-ish allowance from his parents, and because he was previously a bit of a nerd who didn't get out much, has a bit of cash saved up in a bank account. For story purposes, you have petty cash as needed, if I feel something is completely out of your budget I'll veto it (like if you want an actual suit - even a non-tailored suit is preposterously expensive). You have a very rough limit of around £100 for major purchases, and that wouldn't be something you could do often, but cinema tickets or buying dinner aren't going to leave you broke.))
>>
>>26342059
Cool.

Thanks for Quest tonight.
>>
I feel like we're neglecting Avril.
>>
>>26343026
Al little, yeah. We're taking her out tonight, though. I feel like we're neglecting Jill even worse. We should take them both out at the next opportunity, and we should romance Jill on her own some. We don't want to be just someone she shares Avril with, but someone to be interested in on our own rights.
>>
>>26343026
Yea, don't forget to water our fey.
>>
>>26341981
We don't have a huge amount of idea; it's implied that it was low self-esteem + lack of feels of control in our life.
