I'm back! I'm prepared to try and re-boot the Children of the mountain, though I'm not sure if many of the regulars will find this. If there is enough interest in this thread, I plan to make a twitter account for myself to avoid people losing track of the threads in future. If not... I have other ideas for quests.

Previous threads:

Previously, Vulug had just returned with important news from Märlas, and people were discussing methods for attacking Märlas.

Most recent update coming.
>>
Gronk decided to interrupt the training to send the bulls out hunting for goats. The bulls were glad, as the training had been a hard routine and the lack of meat was beginning to grate against them. Gathering the slow and lazy goats on the dwarven mountain was easy, the lack of hunting in their past not giving them the experience to evade the trolls. When they returned, Gronk made an announcement; he had decided to allow mating rights to two bulls. One would of course be Moruk, the other would be the winner of a contest between all the bulls. There would be bouts of non-lethal combat, with one winner proving themselves by the end. The battles were long and achingly close, but two trolls proved themselves the cream of the crop. One was a relative new comer to the tribe, a member of Fellash’s tribe. He had already sparred against Gronk, displaying incredible speed and a savvy battle knowledge. The other was one of Gronk’s sons, a bulky, slow moving fighter. Their fight was something of an anit-climax, in which the speedier new comer avoided his opponent’s attacks before launching his own. He was proclaimed victor and given access to one of the females, one of those spawned by Gronk.

After the excitement of the trials, work was resumed on the ballista. The first prototype was almost ready for testing. Tink-Tank grumbled occasionally about the smaller forge not being quite suited to the task, but mostly seemed to hardly have noticed the changeover, so absorbed in his work was he. Vulug returned about a week after the trials, in a new cloak of a thick black material. His hair had been trimmer and tied into a braid. On his waist, a silver buckle affixed a black leather belt upon which a metal sword was affixed. He had many tales of the human city to tell Gronk.

This one knew-knew you would not abandon us!

With Moruk in attendance and a freshly cooked goat between them, the trollkin began his tale. His arrival to the city had been unremarkable, as finding a place to stay in Märlas was easy. First he had walked around the city and surveyed the walls and defences. He had not been impressed. Like Moruk and Ragnar had noted when scouting, the walls were in a state of disrepair and were hardly manned. The watch, what passed for the law in Märlas, were lazy, corrupt and incompetent. Vulug had spent several days talking with men about the origin of the city, and who ruled it. It seemed the city had been deliberately built outside the borders of any kingdom, so that it could be a haven from laws that restricted profit. It was ruled by a notorious criminal who had named himself Mayor when no-one else dared stand against him. Vulug had seen him from afar, and said that he was a large fat man with darting eyes. The city was only lived in by those who needed to be free from society’s constraints, or were banished. Mercenaries, wanted criminals, outlaws and merchants not interested in paying taxes were the city’s main denizens. Vulug had lured someone from the inn where he had been staying out into the alleyway, before tearing his throat out with his long, claw like, nails. He had used the man’s money to buy some better clothes, as well as various books. They were books on military tactics and history mostly, brought back for Tak-Tak to study and relate to Gronk.

>Cont.
>>
>>26373723

The most interesting piece of knowledge Vulug reported not only made Gronk reconsider his plans for invasion, but made something from his past a little clearer. Vulug spoke of a company of ‘Minotaurs’, great horned beasts that were famous for their skill at arms, that currently abided in Märlas. Apparently, Minotaur females were incredibly rare, forcing most males to travel the earth to find even one. These travelling males often formed into mercenary companies and sold their services to the highest bidder, giving them a chance to shed blood, make gold and earn a name at the same time. The creature Gronk killed in the raid on the second goblin encampment had clearly been a Minotaur. A company of at least thirty were currently staying Märlas, waiting for an offer worthy of their talents. If Gronk attacked the city, they would likely move to defend it, as they were deeply honourable. Apart from them though, there seemed to be little stopping the great Gronk from taking the poorly held city.

This one wants Vulug to practice magic with Ragnar and Gronk, so that when we attack when have three magic users to kill-slay the enemy

Need a decision on this before I can write the update. train magic is decided, but not anything else.

Also, Squeeskritch brings up a good point. Do you want to try and bribe the Minotaurs or destroy them?
>>
>>26373961
Minotaurs could be useful addition to our young-small kingdom. Give them home, give them enemies, those who come to destroy us, and let them mate with some trolls and goblins as reward, to make troll-kin for us

As for other actions, gather-get more food for our march to human-place, and train-train trolls to obey orders in battle

destroy

Minotaurs are thought to be deeply honorable, so I'm not sure if buying their loyalty will work. Convincing them that our cause is more just could work, but I doubt Gronk or any among him really have that kind of diplomatic skill. Either way, we greatly outnumber the minos, and that's just with trolls. Let's destroy them.

B.) Worship the Big Papa
E.) Train magic
D.) Fit Vulug for armor

The news Vulug brought was interesting and would prove useful when they attacked Märlas, but Gronk was less than worried about the Minotaurs. One had fallen to him already, had it not? And that was before he took the dwarf mine, ate the star and defeated the other chiefs. What really pressed on his mind was how many trolls he had now. They ate at a voracious rate, even with the dwarves working night and day to provide more food. At least there were plenty of goats on the mountain, the dwarves never having hunted them. He sent out a goodly number of trolls to gather more for the pens. Those not doing so spent much time worshipping Gronk. After the trials were fought, the trolls had gotten a taste for displays of martial skill. When Gronk consented to watch, the cream of the bull trolls would fight in gladiatorial displays of ability for his amusement. Many trolls suffered painful wounds, but nothing that took more than a few days to heal up.

With Vulug returned, his training with Ragnar returned. At first, the troll-kin was thrilled by the warm welcome he had gotten from Gronk and how relevant he know was. It had allowed him to score points against Moruk, in their endless rivalry. Once the glamour of his trip to the outside world faded, he began to act in a sulky manner. He attended less than half of his lessons with Ragnar, preferring to find a quiet corner of the mine and read one of the books he brought back. Gronk noticed his behaviour, and vaguely realised that he wasn’t exactly a troll. The human side of him caused other problems, like his discomfort sleeping in the great hall with all the other trolls. Even with his truancy, Vulug was quickly learning the shamanistic magic wielded by Ragnar. The older troll had also had great success teaching the cubs to speak the common tongue, as he showed Gronk.

If we do this, we risk Vulug becoming more like a human. He might even betray us in the future. We must choose, do we wish to emphasize his troll-side, or human side? This one thinks we need to keep him with us. Beat him for not attending lessons. He has his gift in magic because of Gronk, and he shall not waste it. He is TROLL-KIN, the son of a living god! If he wants to read he can do so, but he must work hard. Moruk is obedient but strong, and if Vulug wants more of our love he must work harder.

Put the dwarfs to work expanding the underground farm, and find a way to make them obedient if not loyal. We cannot risk a rebellion while we are away, so we will have to leave many trolls behind unless we are certain dwarf-meat will be obedient. What say you others? How should we discipline dwarf-meat?

To summarize votes from this one

>Train Magic (Gronk, Ragnar and Vulug working together)
>Expand Underfarm
>Worship Big Papa

This is dangerous. We will be splitting our new troll kingdom in two, one half made up of the mountains, the other the city-place and its lands. Vulug will think high, mystical thoughts while his brother rules the land after our death

With food situation at least partially rectified, Gronk turned his attention to farming. If he could provide a steady supply of food for the slaves, he reasoned they wouldn’t need any of the meat that he was reserving for his trolls. Anf by supply, he meant send dwarves to improve the farm. After a few days labour, the workers requested access to a specific tome in the archives which apparently dealt with farming. Gronk shelved the matter for the moment, as he had Vulug to attend to. The youth was unrepentant about avoiding lessons, but changed his tune after Gronk threw him about a bit. Vulug had not known that his father knew of his regenerative abilities. After his beating, Gronk tried to explain than he had to work to earn his place in the sun. Perhaps Gronk’s words got through, or maybe his fists did. Either way, Vulug stopped avoiding lessons.

Gronk joined him for some, explaining how he used fire magic. Vulug tried to use it himself, and was disappointed at first. It took him several long days before he was able to conjure a spark, but he progressed quickly after that. Soon he was able to throw fire balls and make fire walls in the manner of Gronk. This pleased the Big Papa, almost as much as the daily combats held in his honour. Occasionally, the victor of the last trials came into the ring. His name was Ashanorg, and he had once been a member of Fellash’s tribe. The victory that had won him a female had also won him much fame in the tribe, and the bulls saw him as a example of how one should fight. Moruk on the other hand, disliked him.

Moruk no like Ashanorg? This is funny. Explain to Moruk that Ashanorg may become strong-champion for all trolls, but one day Ashanorg will be bowing before Moruk. Reinforce this with a few proclamtions and giving moruk more females than anyone else. The boy will learn that he has no one to fear. His brother will be a mighty mage, but he is not of full troll blood, is too young, and too human-thinking. Ashanorg isn't even related to us, and though he become a sub-chief, he will never threaten Moruk unless Moruk becomes weak

This one thinks it is soon-time to move and fight human-city. We have trained long, we have trained hard and now we only need to ensure things do not fall apart while we leave. Ashanorg could be in charge while we are gone, or maybe Moruk?

Gronk knew that soon the time for a war on Märlas would come, and he would use every tool at his disposal. To this end, he had his trolls and goblins start working on using the ballista. It required two trolls to aim, but only one to carry. A system was determined where one troll carried the weapon and the other the goblin and dwarf loaders. They were slow to set up, with the trolls shuffling to get into postion. One troll went down on a knee and had the ballista placed across his shoulder. The other stands behind, to aim and fire it. The loaders move quickly to heave out bolts and slot them into the mechanism, before the troll behind winds it up. The bolts fired two at a time, with about two minutes in between for reloading.

The combats continued, and a traditional line of worship came into being. The trolls would face Gronk before the fight and say; “We dedicate this battle to Gronk, father of us all and the chosen of the mountain”. Gronk approved of the fights, particularly as they amused Vulug. When his request for a private room of his own was denied, he had acted almost as uncooperatively as before. He arrived at all his lessons, but seemed to not try as hard to conjure the flames. On the days after fights, however, he was always brimming with enthusiasm. After one of the fights, Tak-Tak came with news of the dwarf book. Even without reading it, he knew it wasn’t about farming. He had located it in the same place as he had found the plans for the ballista. It seemed to be a recipe for making ‘God’s fire’ which could not be quenched by water.

Eat a dwarf that directed us to this book, and then mate with his wife. No other punishments. Burn this "God's Fire" book

We march to war! We bring one hundred trolls, half of all male goblins, twenty dwarf-men, Moruk and Vulug. Ashganor and Ragnar will remain behind. This one trusts ragnar now the he knows we will not betray him, and between him and Ashganor they should be able to keep the other trolls in line

What say everyone else to this plan for marching?
>>
>>26375712
no book burn!
Tak-Tak may be able to create this Gawdfaier for us
>>
>>26375655
Burn 10 dwarves using this fire.
Also war!
>>
>>26375712
WHAT
Don't burn it! Keep the book!

>>26375655
Eat the Dwarf who asked us for the book. Have Tak-Tak hold onto the book for safekeeping and get to work on reading it and getting the secret of God's fire.

F) WAR
F) WAR
F) WAR

Bring 100 bulls armed with claws and shields, as well as all the ballistas we have. 30 male goblins, and 20 dwarf men will accompany the trolls, Moruk, Vulug, Ashganor and Ragnar will also come along to help in the battle.
>>
>>26375712
Mate with the dwarfs wife, good idea, if he has no wife his daughter, and do it before we kill him.
>>
>>26375829
>>26375712
While I love how deliciously evil mating with the Dwarf's wife is, before killing him, it's more than likely going to cause some significant backlash.

Wasn't there a point at which we wanted to groom the dorfs to be as loyal as our goblins?
>>
>>26375857
Dwarfs are being too resistant. More trouble than they are worth. Goblins will outbreed them and take their place. If you have ideas to make them loyal-smart, share-share
>>
>>26375857
they must all die! they are like making the sex, moar work than fun!
>>
>>26375891
I would be perfectly willing to do that, but the dwarves have shown the can't be trusted.
>>
>>26375912
... are you saying we should mate with every female dwarf?
>>
>>26375891
>>26375912
we haven't got an equivalent to Tak-Tak to appeal to the remaining dwarves.

I understand that they are becoming a problem, and maybe we will need to take care of them. We have yet to fully exploit their greatest attribute - their penchant for engineering. Plans for existing structures are fine, but the bladed gauntlets were (if I remember) their design. Tink-Tank is very competent, but there are more discoveries that we can make.

But if they keep fucking with us, I completely agree that we fucking destroy them.
>>
So, we're going to war.

Do we kill all the dwarves, or give them another chance?
>>
>>26376030
hmm
had to beat a ban
kill all
>>
>>26375970
Dwarfs made claw-hands? Maybe we should be a little less harsh-angry. As you said, we need a Tak-Tak. Perhaps we can single one out on the march to human-city? Then we might not have to kill dwarfs
>>
>>26376047
sometimes i forget /tg/ isn`t /b/, and dip into the gif folder named "weird"
>>
>>26376030
If we can't get a dwarf on the march to stand up like Tak-Tak and make the others obedient, we will kill them when war is done. This is last chance
>>
>>26375970
>they keep fucking with us
twice now...
let us not give them another chance
>third time is a charm

gobbelins are weakminded, dorfs are resilient and will never submit to us.

>Dorfocide now!
>>
So, war now dorficide later?
>>
>>26376075
agreed

right when i had finialy caught up with this quest you go on a dam 9 day hiatus.

grrrrr but it doesnt make this civ any less awesome
>>

dorficide as foreplay for the war
>>
>>26376143
Sorry man, I had a trip to Scotland. It was great, but youth hostels are low tech and laptops are heavy.
>>
>>26376140
Let's kill the dwarves now. The blood will get everyone riled up for battle.

we need to make things NICE AND SPARKLING CLEAR to the dwarves.

the next time one of their dwarves causes some shit, everyone's ass gets fucking eaten.

if you do what you're told and we deem you helpful and worthy, you will gain extra freedoms over time - the same thing that happened to the goblins.

you do right, and you become our droogies.
>>
>>26376175
not a prob

on a side note, the hostel reminds me of the fucked up horror/torture movie called hostel

now im imagineing scriviner getting his achilles tendon cut and being taunted with a way out *shudder*
>>
>>26376177
>>26376175
Hmm... okay. Dorficide now, war later. The war update might take a little time, so maybe genocide foreplay is a good idea.

>>26376264
...Thanks for that, I didn't need to sleep.
>>
>>26376277
NO-NO! This one and other disagree! Wait for dorfcide, give one last chance once we give them ultimatum. And if we must kill dwarfs, spare the women and mate with them till we produce a child
>>
>>26376305
All right rat features, Let's have a vote.

>Dorficide now
or
>Give them one more chance
>>
>>26376339
Or just have the dwarfs be on the front lines to regain our favor. Blood shed will redeem them
>>
>>26376339
one more chance, when properly trained dwarfish intelligence can be usefull
>>26376277
thats what im here for
>>
>>26376353
not bad. Give dwarfs chance in frontlines of battle. That will leave many dwarf-women unattended, yes-yes

>Gronk: The quest to fuck everything
>>
>>26376339
One more chance, make sure they know it is their last, by mating with one of them... be gentle though, don't want a repeat of last time.
>>
>>26376339
>Dorficide now

how many times will you guys accept your girl cheating on you?
my limit is zero, yours seem to be three...
>>
>>26376359
Actually, I do need to sleep quite soon...
>>
>>26376375
this is their last chance, if they fail us they die.
>>
>>26376382
that is exactly what bitches say when their men beat them...
just this once, next time i`ll leave him
but they seldom do
>>
The majority seem to be saying that we should give them one more chance, but have them on the front lines in the battle. I'm going to write up the intro for the battle, you should discuss how they will be armed and armoured.

In sad news, I will be ending the thread after this update. The actual war will take place next thread.
>>
>>26376409
no armor, no weapons

night all
>>
>>26376409
we should arm them as light infantry. there is still a chance they might turn sides.
>>
>>26376409
I'd have to assume that most of the armaments and armor that were used by the dwarves during our assault of the cave (if there were any) shouldn't have gone anywhere, unless they got turned into scrap for forging...

If that is the case, we let them fight with their hammers and pickaxes. Maybe some who appear capable can throw some sticks as well.
>>
>>26376409
light arms and armour
have them provide cover for our ballistas
>>
>>26376409
Have them be the first to charge through the walls. If they refuse, we hurl them over the walls.
>>
>>26376449
>>26376409
Give them the best armor we can, arms too. Let them prove themselves but not get slaughtered.

They should guard the Gobos and the Ballistas, but there should be 1 troll per 10 dwarves to keep them in line and slaughter them if they get out of line.
>>
Have them lead, but encourage them to collect trophies from the enemy. The more ears (or something equally evident of their actions like armor, etc.) they collect, the more we reward them for their actions afterwards.

Perhaps we let the victor be the representative/leader after the battle? Throwing ideas around.
>>

The time was right, Gronk could feel it in the air. The trolls were ready for battle, and the dwarves had made their opinions on the trolls clear. For a little while, Gronk debated destroying the lot of them. They had destroyed more than they had made, making the case for wiping them out. On the other hand, why waste their deaths? If they spearheaded the attack on Märlas, his soldiers would be spared the worst of the battle. The only question was what to arm then with. The statue in the great hall had a large assortment dwarf weapons piled on the floor at its feet, which were do nothing other than gather dust and rust. If they were too heavily armed, however, they might take it into their heads to turn against their masters. In the end, he decided on hammers and pick axes, neither of which were terribly efficient weapons. They would be dressed in light leather amour, which would doubtless distress them. Most of dwarfish the warriors the trolls had encountered had been dressed in heavy metal armour, with almost none wearing leather.

It took a week to gather the supplies and organise the trolls for the battle. Food was gathered, goats slaughtered and trolls equipped with their weapons. Each group of claw wielders and shield bearer was given enough provisions for the trip and was assigned a group of dwarves and goblins to supervise on the journey. The day before they left, he summoned his war council to him. Ragnar, Moruk, Vulug and Ashanorg came to the raised platform in the great hall, each eager to hear what his role in the battle would be. Vulug was less than thrilled with his, as he and Ragnar would be advisors and not be a part of the charge. Moruk and Ashanorg felt more at home with theirs, as they would both be at the front of the trolls and goblins. The dwarves would go first, or be destroyed. They would wash clean their past sins in blood, or by removed from the world and memory.

Next thread will be the day after tomorrow, hope to see you there. I plan to have a twitter set up by then, and a paste bin. The paste bin will detail all the characters, alive and dead, who are currently named. It'll also have a detailed description of the main players.

Good night, see you in two days. I'll archive the thread before I sleep.
>>
>>26376658
Don't think I'll be around on Saturday, but thanks for the awesome thread! Looking forward to reading what happens next.

I still think the dwarves should be given better arms and armor.
Propose to them that they can fight or be killed. If they resist fighting, then give em the leather armor and shit weapons. If they accept this ultimatum, give them better stuff.
