Your name is Hairy McTerrorcastle. A student of Magic at the Fifth Circle Academy, at the age fifteen you embarked into a journey through the Intricacies of Summoning Magic.

After clearing your first class, and making some friends, you established yourself as something of the lead student in Summoning. The Magister, Pythianne, a cheerful buxom lady who takes great delight in things Things That Should Not Be, seems to have taken a shining to you.

You summoned an Imp, whom you named Bowie but have since learned his actual name is something closer to Haztoraxifeliv. You've tried pronouncing but aren't very good at it. You'll get better.

After a trip to the Library, where you encountered the odd Librarian, you gathered four books, came back to your Dorm, and began studying.

After powering through a book and a chunk of another, you took a break to try a new spell you learned, and projected yourself into the Entropic Plane. Or at least, you tried to - you aren't sure. Nothing here makes sense.

After eating a musical ball of light that filled your head with a lullaby, you encountered a strange man hanging from a tree that wasn't there five seconds ago. He proceeded to (mockingly) inform you that you were in fact, standing on the Sky. You proceeded to fall onto the 'clouds', which turned out to be sand.

He has now asked you to dance. You asked for music, but he said you had it.

You aren't entirely sure what he means by claiming you have the music all along. This is beginning to sound like one of those trite fairy tales but... well why not?

You close your eyes. And begin to listen. The world is still quiet, disturbingly so. He doesn't even make a noise as he sways slightly on his rope, and all you can hear is your heartbeat and your breathing.

Your heartbeat. Is that what he means? Well... it's not really something you can dance to all that well... but you'll give it a try.

You try to waltz to your heartbeat, it's steady resounding beat all you focus on. Eyes sealed shut, you continue the dance as long as you can, feeling your heartbeat escalate as you dance faster and faster and faster.

When you're out of breath and tired, you open your eyes to see if perhaps the Hanged Man has found your 'dancing' suitable.

He's in your arms. When did that...? He... all of a sudden, you can feel his weight, his soft white robes. His sole eye staring into yours. His grinning face.

He whirls you around, spins and twirls, dips you and throws you until monochrome world becames a mad blur of black grey and white, until the sand whips at your feet as he moves you, but you never stop staring into his eye.

You can't stop. You couldn't break your gaze if you tried and try you did. It's sickly white colour seemed to encompass everything, devour everything, until it was all that was, is and ever will be.

>>
Rolled 84

>>26465219
That one died after because he decided to summon, alone and without supervision, against explicit warnings and without proper preparation one of the named demons, which as said to be the strongest. We did nothing of the sort.

We used the astral projection, which was described as an extraordinarily safe way of exploring other planes without risk to yourself. Additionally, we ALREADY SURIVED it. There no immediate need to tell her.

You are like the little child who, after having been told that smoking is bad, eats some chocolate and immediately after runs to its mother because it is afraid whether eating chocolate is also bad.
>>
Rolled 67

>>26465259
And lets actually put it off as it was something we always do. Make us seem more like a badass and a powerful mage to the other students.
>>
Rolled 39

>>26465259
>>26465282
You are not reading the quest. One STUDENT died after SUMMONING a high level demon. This has nothing to do with us. In fact what we did doesn't even directly fit the domain of the teacher we have run to. She is the teacher for summoning/binding. Astral projection sounds like it would be general magic. Even if it is probably used to explore the planes of summons.
>>
>>26465302
First, you're making up half of those details, but you are right it was a summoning.
Two, its safe, but fact is, is that we let it into our head, meaning in my opinion, it still has power over us enough to pop our head open.
>>
Rolled 18

>>26465337
We know he did it without supervision. We had been explicitly warned against named demons in our very first lesson, it can be safely assumed that the student had been warned at some point. Obviously, the preparations were not sufficient, otherwise there would have been no problem.

I agree to your second point and think we should tell a teacher. However, the creature seemed to like us and didn't harm us despite having plenty time to do so. I'm sure we have some time to deal with it and, this being a story, having a link to a friendly, extraplanar being in our head is pretty awesome.

>>26465240

>sorry, more phone calls

You decide this is, in retrospect, probably a bad idea now that the adrenaline is gone.

You turn to leave, and maybe make it back to your dorm but directly behind you is a familiar figure in extravagant red robes. The Archmagister.

You wonder what exactly you should tell him in an attempt to avoid curfew. "Well... I was playing around with a new spell and I wanted to ask the Magister if seeing things that weren't there before was a normal side effect."

He scratches his chin at that. "Hmm. No spells I know of that would do that. Not in Summoning at least. I assume it was summoning?" You affirm so. "Well! This doesn't all that good! To err on the side of caution, you should probably get checked out by Magister Gareth." Before you can protest (or not), he grabs you lightly by the shoulder, and you feel a strange twisting sensation that reminds you of the dance.

The cool bordering on frigid air of the Summoning Chambers gives way to pleasant warmth tinged with plants and herbs you can't place. You glance around and see several white empty white beds, a crackling fireplace, and a tired looking unshaven man in forest green robes.

"Jasper. What is it now." He says in a tone that expects something horrible. The Archmagister just pushes you forward slightly.

"Oh, possible spell side effect. Hallucinations, apparently, Gareth. Be a dear, won't you?" The Magister sighs, rolls his shoulders, and exhales.

Magic. It washes over you with the force of a gale wind, whipping the fire and spilling sheets. Your robes billow in the wind and you almost feel like you might be blown away by it but it's... so warm... and inviting. It reminds you of your mother's hugs, and huddling with a blanket before a fire on a winter's night. It reminds you of home and everything good about that.

The Magister scratches his chin. "Better?"

You glance at the Archmagister. He's still purple and hazy.

"Yes. Yes he is." He says with a tired voice and an equally tired sigh. "False alarm then." You debate telling them about dancing in the entropic plane, but think better of it for now.

At the very least you seem in the clear right now. "Well! Now that that's all settled!" The Archmagister grips you by the shoulder again. "Back to bed with you!" The twisting sensation returns and... you blink. The roof of your dorm room is what you see, and you are... lying on the bed.

Jaqul is sleeping. That was... a small adventure in itself you suppose. At least you didn't get in trouble?

>I was thinking of limiting it to just one task per day for simplicity's sake, but with some further thinking, I'll make it three. One for the morning, one for the afternoon and one for the evening.

You set off to inform Pythianne of your (mis)adventure. If anyone can make heads or tails of it, surely she can? She probably can. You hope.

Making it to her office, bothered by none and seeing nobody with the exception of the Magister of Force (Ranaviel? Ranafiel? Something like that) doing laps around a Courtyard.

After a brief knock, it swings open automatically this time. She looks up from some scrolls and a cup of coffee.

"Oh? OH! Hello! Thought you were Jasper or Dio or someone but hello! No class today you know, so need to be so early, unless you weren't actually here for class at all and just wanted to talk. Do you want to talk? Talking's fine!"

She takes another sip of coffee. You can see the energy levels increasing.

You relate to her the story of your Astral Travel to the Plane of Entropy. At the end of it, she looks torn between scolding you and hugging you.

She does both. Crushing you against her bosom in what you're sure is a magically enhanced hug, she shakes you from side to side whilst simultaneously giving you a stern reprimand. "That was very dangerous and is the kind of unsupervised magic we want to stamp out! But ohmygod you got in?! You ATE IT TOO?! THAT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND YOU SHOULDN'THAVEDONETHATBUTIDIDITTOOSOIGUESSICAN'TREALLYTALKBUTI'MAMAGISTER!"

She pauses, not even breathlessly, only doing so to take yet another sip of coffee as she releases you. Now you remember where you heard the tune! It was the same one she was humming when she was drawing the Circle!

"I'm really sorry and it won't happen again but IT WAS SO COOL!" She grabs your hands and begins bouncing up and down. You decided to do it as well, for symmetry. Yes. Symmetry.

"AAAAHHHH I KNOW I KNOW! I DIDN'T MEET WHO YOU MET, I MET SOME OTHER GUY IN ROBES WHO TALKED ABOUT BOOKS AND MAGIC AND POETRY BUT IT WAS SO COOL~!"

The two of you bounce there like energetic ferrets for a bit longer. She sighs wistfully, and drains the rest of her coffee in one gulp. "I'd love to chat more about this, but I have to help the Archmagister with a side project. Have a good day and DON'T get into any mischief!"

Aren't we only allowed to summon stuff in the presence of teachers? I'm sure this particular activity can wait until the teacher is back and can tutor us.

Let's read something about the entropic plane. Maybe talk with your friends about what spells they learned so far, widen our horizon.

>Tuesday [today]
Study infernal summoning, tutoring with Pythianne (if we can), read the book about names
>Wednesday
More names book, bond with Bowie, tutoring with Pythianne (hopefully we can summon Bowie back and show that off)
>Thursday
Explore the fuck out of planes with astral projection
>Friday
Hang out with friends, something else (not sure really)
>Saturday
Hang with friends some more, tutoring with Pythianne
>Sunday
Research in library / study on whatever we have in class the next day
>Monday [next week]
Class, Study whatever we worked on a bit more

Honestly, I want to do tutoring with Pythianne as much as possible, but I kinda worry about scheduling a fuckton of it if she has duties as a Magister. This whole set up a schedule thing seems kinda ehhh. Not sure if this is gonna work out, Archy.
>>

The alternative is time-skipping the rest of the week. Would you rather that? The schedule is supposed to give you room to actually do things (and let time pass).
>>
>>26466151
I'm starting to wonder if we actually have a good idea of what you want us to do. Are we supposed to stuff the schedule full, or are we supposed to leave room for things to happen?

Is this basically letting us pick a week's worth of progression to stat boost us to deal with plot, or are you just stalling because you don't have plot worked out or what?

If it's the former, I'll sit down and try to work something out, but if it's the latter you should just end this and come back when you have something prepared that's a bit more than stat grinding.

I thinks its acceptable as a very rough guideline but I don't expect us to actually follow the schedule that much.

I think we should keep some of the important bits that need a fixed schedule (The tutoring for example) and determine how big a portion the other stuff should get. Like "Hang around with friends every now and then" "Try to spend three afternoons studying in the library."

Most of it is too variable to predict. For example, I want to keep Bowie here as long as we can, but how long that is depends on our rolls.

I agree with this.

I do have a plot worked out, but it's mostly because this is, at it's heart, a School - albeit one full of Magic. This is your second day. Part of me wasn't expecting the wild shenanigans we've experienced today (I keep reminding myself to never underestimate the players but it keeps happening).

Springing plot elements on you right now feels kind of... rushed to me? It's your first few days of the Academy and OH LOOK HERE COMES ADVENTURE.
>>
>>26466230
It's not that we need to move down a breakneck pace into plot, but it was moving at a reasonable pace but you've suddenly slowed it to a glacial crawl with this weeklong schedule thing and I really don't see the point in it or understand it.

This is taking so long that any time it could have saved by planning it out instead of doing it one day at a time has been lost.
>>
>>26466252
Well, a compromise. It's been around... 10 hours? Since I started today's quest, so we'll call it a day around now. Decide what you want to spent the next week or so doing, and when I start up Academy Quest III on Wednesday, we'll jump straight into whatever's happening?
>>
>>26466282
We should learn more about Bowie and maybe making him a permanent familiar.
>>
>>26466282
Fuck it. Spend the entire week reading the Succubi book. Fuck friends, fuck tutoring with Pythianne, fuck the library, fuck astral projecting, fuck Bowie, and fuck learning his terrible little fucking name.

There. Week long schedule.

My thoughts on time-skips etc: QMs tend to fill everything with super-special stuff all the time players are in control. But nothing happens when they aren't. This is kind of inevitable and should be taken into consideration. If we always decide to have time-skips and know that nothing will happen in that time and conversely know that as soon as it ends special stuff will happens it feels unnatural.

On the other hand, we don't want to play through days and weeks of boring stuff where nothing happens.

There have been several ways of handling or not handling this. The one I like most is this: We play through everything in the beginning. Detail varies depending on activity of course, but even if nothing special happens, we use this opportunity to establish our character.

When a similar situation arises you need slightly less input from us, because we already somewhat know how McTerrorcastle would act. When a similar situation (for example lessons) come around repeatedly you need to write less and less and we need to give less detail to our suggestions.

This way we will still play through situations one by one for now but the next week will take maybe half as long as this one did and after a month we only play through the highlights and the rest can be summarized in a post or two. Unless we intentionally want to change something for example.

This combines the best of two worlds, I think. We get to actually play the character instead of making this into a strategy game with playable parts inbetween. We are not bogged down by endless repetitions of the same stuff. And as a consequence you are not tempted to keep us entertained by continuously throwing in more over the top stuff to spice up an otherwise boring quest.

Small tip: The way you use dice there will continue to be several nat 100s per thread. It was fun so far but I for one know that if this continues I will be bored by the Mary Sue MC and drop this quest within a dozen threads. It happened before.

Nat 100s are awesome for plot hooks or discovering cool stuff like we did so far. But when overdone it will quickly turn stupid and grotesque.

By this I mean:

There have been between 3 and 14 rolls in between your posts. Crits happen at 1 and 100. This gives a chance of between ~5.6% and ~24.6% to roll a crit. It would have been exceedingly unusual for us not to roll crits.
