You are a dead man. Well, a dead smith, to be particular.

You were born a child with an unusual predilection towards steel. You saw beauty in every work from the forge. And all you ever wanted to make that beauty with your own hands. You begged your father to apprentice you to the local village smith, and you worked as hard as his own sons, even harder, in order to make up for the favoritism that he showed them over yourself. You became a master craftsman, who made works which even the nobles and their warriors wanted; rather than simple cookery tools like knives, you made magnificent blades which were works of art.

And then the war broke out. And everything changed. The nobles went to war, their warriors armed with the blades you had supplied. They were fine, fine weapons, and killed many. Eventually, you watched as your beloved blades earned a reputation as bloody weapons of murder and slaughter.

But none of that matters now, for you are a dead man. Your overlord has lost, and the victorious conqueror sent forces to kill you in vengeance for the grim harvest your blades reaped from his forces. Your family and friends have caught word of this, and have urged to secret yourself away, but you remain.

You have to finish your last… and greatest work. It is a

Agreed. Spears are honest. Swords are wrapped in mysticism and ritual that hide their true purpose. They're emblems of a warrior's soul, for whatever that's worth, rather than a tool of war. It is that attitude which let us pretend we were just an artist. No more. A spear is pure. It is a tool for poking a hole in another thing so it bleeds out and dies. No way to disguise its nature behind pretty words. We shall proceed with sincerity from here on. There is no poetry to war, no higher meaning than man inflicting his power against man. Maybe if we were honest about this we could work to genuinely make things better.

This is pretty much the opposite of "justice", for all the people voting Spear/Justice.

This is an acceptance of violence as pointless cruelty. A weapon meant for justice aspires to higher ideals and tries to cloak violence as something righteous and even holy.

Spear/Honesty for me. We can't lie to ourselves any longer. A weapon exists to kill.
>>
so is OP goign anywhere with this or has the prospect of counting votes scared him away?

>acceptance of violence as pointless cruelty
>A weapon exists to kill.
And by making the creation of such a thing our final act, it as though we are saying that WE exist to kill, and that man exists to be killed.

A vote for honesty is a vote for bloodlust and destruction. And I am okay with this.

Yes.
>>
>>26468512
Well, that's what this war seems to have taught us. Our blades are for slaughter, and even then it still didn't help. Our side still lost.

The fuck is the point in aspiring to anything better when everyone's going to turn each other into stuck pigs anyway?

Nihilism in response to the horrors of war is fun, assuming it doesn't go full edgy 13-year-old.
>>
>>26468461
I saw it as justice because the justice option mentioned how the enemy lord was striking out at the weak because he could not punish the warriors. The first step to justice is to acknowledge the evils of the world for what they are. Our justice is not the high-minded idealism of the noble warrior. It's the simple pragmatism of a man who just wants to defend against the predations of the powerful. And for that he must be sincere about his cause. He is killing strangers to defend those dear to him. If he were to cloak it in fancy words he'd only delude himself from his purpose. He has to know that it is awful. Only then can he work to a world where such things are unnecessary, and justice is properly served for all. It's not really justice if you're only doing it for the people you like.
>>

>I saw it as justice
>He is killing strangers to defend those dear to him

>>
>>26468595
Way to miss the point. I'm saying that killing to defend is necessarily going to be awful, and lead to a desire to change things. I'm trying to build a story arc. Starts out killing his enemies for the sake of practicality, finds it horrifying, works to make the world better so he doesn't find himself in situations where killing is his best option.

Going with the Spear of Honesty.
THat said, there's a lot that you can do with a spear over just poking a hole in someone. If you're going with actual martial finesse, then the whole thing is a weapon..
A weapon that in fact doesn't require that much strength to wield and has a certain finesse that'll triumph over other weapons less so.

A spear is a staff with a pointed and/or bladed end. And staves are disturbingly good weapons in the hand of one that becomes skilled in their use.

>Majority vote achieved. Finally, we get this ball rolling.

>[x] Spear
>[x] Rage
>[x] Justice

The weapon that you create turns out to be a long object, too long to make it a one handed blade, yet too thin to be a sword handed sword. You wonder what it wwill turn out to be, even as you hammer away. The edge of the pole, the blade is force, and in that instant, you know. It will be a spear, a weapon that is made to kill, and a short brutal weapon, not ornamental, nor decorative, but a weapon of war.

You feel weak as you forge the blade. You haven’t eaten in days, and you havent slept well since you first witnessed the carnage that your blades brought. Yet you must finish this, this spear which will bring justice through fury, and kill those lawbreaking bastards where they stand.

Your vision is dimming by the time you place the spearhead once last time into the ire, and you don’t even notice as you topple in into the fire after it.
>>
>>26468956
This is probably the best compromise
>>
You are a spear. A rather unusual spear, as your shaft is also formed of metal, but a spear, nevertheless. Your steel rings with purpose. You are made to THRUST INTO THOSE WHO ARE UNJUST, and SHAFT THE CRIMINAL WITH YOUR FURY.

The heat of the forge blazes around you, as the tip of your shaft and your head lies in the fire. Yet, you are not damaged by this exposure. FOR YOUR RAGE PROTECTS YOU, AND YOUR FURY SUSTAINS YOU. YOU WILL LAY DOWN THE LAW, FOR YOU ARE THE-

And then, you feel a presence. Someone, very delicately, lays both hands on your long, pole, and lifts you out of the fire, before dunking your head in a bucket of water. The blazing heat of your pole dies away, and you are lifted once again, to feel the air flowing across it, the wind caressing it. Your head is rather sensitive.
>>
“So, the man’s already dead.” The vibrations in the air inform you of what the trespassers are saying, even though you have no eyes or ears.

“Fell into the fire, it seems. There are baked bones in there.”

“Idiot. Left his steel cooking in there. That’s bad for the blade.” A hand hefts you up and down, and you feel that presence again. You brush up against it again, and you realize it’s the mind of whoever is holding you. “Good work, though. You see those ripples? I heard that forging technique comes from the south.”

“Eh, stuff it, Jameson. I don’t want to know all about your stupid swords right now. We have to report his death to Lord Moore.”

And then, all of a sudden, your rage lights up again. LORD MOORE THAT EVIL FUCKER. YOU’LL KILL HIM. HE IS A MONSTROUS CONQUERER, WHO BURNS INWITH FALSE ACCUSATIONS, AND KILLS THAT OF WHICH HE FEARS AND DOES NOT UNDERSTAND. THE BLOOD OF INNOCENTS STAIN HIS HANDS.

.But… first, you’ll need a way to kill him. You can’t wield yourself, but there’s a convenient person right here, holding you.

>[] BREAK HIM. SMASH THE FORTRESS OF YOUR MIND WITH YOUR FURY. HE IS ONLY A VESSEL FOR THE BRINGING OF JUSTICE.
>[] Swallow your fury. Cold fury will serve you better here. Influence him with emotion, until he turns against the lord of his own will.
>[] Entreat him. Your purpose is just, and your rage, pure. Whisper to him, and he shall understand.
>[] Bide your time. Wait. And at the right moment, you may strike. For now, wait, and listen. And all the while, justice shall slowly creep along to victory.

I vote we touch with our mind. Probe gently anyone to touch us. Give them just a taste of our emotion. No actual words. Not enough for them to be sure. Just a hint that there is something more to us. We bring misfortune to anyone who wields us that we do not deem worthy. Once we find someone who is worthy, speak to him and only him. Find a great, valiant warrior and commune with him. Become one with him. He shall carry out our justice and one day when he is gone, we shall choose another. The ruler of the land will be ours. Not our prisoner, but our partner. We can live forever. We can instill our will. We can ensure that never again will the innocent die for an evil bastard. >[x] Test him, and see if he is worthy as a herald of justice. If not, crush his mind into pathetic scrap, and cleanse the world of evil.

You decide, not to trust this man to immediately understand and follow the path of justice, but also not to crush him beneath you, either. You whisper to him, a psychic tendril crossing the connection of possession.

>You are Jameson, yes?

He lurches, you can feel it. And then he whispers. “W-w-who’s there? Demon? Ghost? I warn you-“

>No, nothing like that. I am simply a spear.

Your position shifts again, and you hear him begin to speak once more. “Yo-“

>You don’t need to talk, just think at me. Think as if you were talking to me.

“You alright there, kid? You’re looking strange.”

“I’m alright, I’m alright!” ‘So, you are the spear?”

>Yes. I’m the spirit of the spear you’re holding. I am a weapon of justice, a law bringer, who seeks aid in defeating Lord Moore.

‘That sounds heroi- wait, Lore Moore?’ The rhythmic swinging you’ve been feelings halts abruptly, before a slightly more jerky motion begins. ‘What do you have against Lord Moore? He is our protector, he fends off the heathens who entreat with the Moon to the North, and the servants of the waves to the east.’

>He is a murderer to kills girls for the slightest suspicion of being witches, and kills the land of which he conquers.

>For every true witch that Moore kills, 100 more innocent girls die to false accusations. The land spirits simple rebel, because it is their duty to protect their worshippers, who you invade.

‘It…. It isn’t like that! He is the count of the outer wastes, and he protects us all!’

He protests with fury, but you know he is shaken. You challenge his beliefs, which he’s grown up with. You plant the seed of doubt. Perhaps, he will listen. He is not a bad person, simply a boy who believes too strongly, and ponders too little.

You talk to the boy some more. You hear some talking from the other members of his group, some shifting. The wind is different here. You are in a new place.

The boy asks you another question, distracting you from your observations of the outside world. ‘But, hasn’t Lord Moore done good as well?’ He seems to be grasping at straws here. He is desperate.

>He is only another petty warlord in the grand scheme of things. Though he fights off the threats, the people here have always done alright without him, more or less. Perhaps he truly protects your people. But in his heart, he only truly wants power.
>>
“Ah, you’re back. Tell me, is the blacksmith now dead?”

….that voice. You recognize it somewhat.

One of the other men accompanying Jameson speaks up. Roberts, you think. “He’s dead, but we didn’t kill him. The man fell into his forge, Lord Moore.”

LORD MOORE. HE’S RIGHT THERE.

Your steels screams as you try to move against all the natural laws of the world. If you had eyes, they would widened till the pupils were nothing but a speck, and your mouth, if you had one, would have begun foaming.

Confirmed for never having fought with pole-arms of any kind. A spear is heavy as fuck, and all the weight of the steel head, a good pound or three, depending on how large it is is at the end of an eight to twelve foot pole. Simple physics says that that shit is going to put a lot of strain on you. Fighting with a pole-arm is the most exhausting kind of fighting I have ever done, and usually, I am doing formation fighting with a tower shield.

My vote: Claymore of Justice

>[x] Have him ask him, and then show him your white hot rage of justice.

You rage, because HE SIMPLY WILL NOT COOPERATE. Fine. He wants to see Moore’s side? THEN LET HIM SEE.

>FINE. ASK HIM. HIS OWN WORDS WILL ADMIT WHAT A MONSTER HE IS. ASK HIM ABOUT WHITERIVER.

Your bleeding fury slips through the message, and the boy’s will hardens.

“My Lord, I’ve heard some things. Have you really killed innocent children, and ravaged the land?” OF COURSE HE HAS, WHY DO YOU EVEN NEED TO FU-

“Holy shi- Jameson shut the hell up, right now!” OH GREAT, NOW THIS FUCKER’S WHITE KNIGHTING FUCKING MOORE THE FUCK- “Don’t talk that way to the lor-”

“No, it’s fine, swordsman. I’d like to hear his opinion. Jameson was it?” OH THE FUCKER SOUNDS AMUSED. HE THINKS IT’S A JOKE, DOES HE? WHY YOU’D LIKE TO-

“As you wish, my lord.” OH, SO YOU JUST FOLLOW YOUR LORDS INSTRUCTIONS BLINDLY? MAN DON’T YOU DIPSHITS EVEN THINK FOR YOURSEL-

“I have ordered those killed who would seem like young girls; that is true.” HE’S NOT ADMITTING IT, HE’S JUST SPINNING IT. “But they have been witches. Those who go to capture them face the most danger, as they must face on the witches magic all on their lonesome.” LIKE HELL, YOU FOUND MAYBE ONE WIT-

“The land was because the land spirits refused to bow down to their new rulers. Land changes between human owners all the time. But the spirits refused to accept that. But the land will grow back eventually. As long as the earth remains, a new land spirit will arise, hopefully one that chooses to be more favorable.”

Jameson seems relieved. ‘See, Lord Moore isn’t as bad as you think he is. Why don’t you just let this go?’
>>
>ASK HIM ABOUT WHITERIVER

‘Surely, there’s no reason to pry further. I mean-‘

>ASK HIM

Jameson gulps, you can hear it. Then he breaches the subject. “My Lord, what about Whiteriver?”

The silence is palpable. Moore spoke ever so slowly. “Where did you hear of that, swordsman?”

“Sir-“

Moore sounds enraged now. AS DESERVED BY THAT FUCKER. “Surround him.” You hear the sounds of rushing feet, and the creaking of wood, most likely Moore stepping off his chair.

“Whiteriver was a town worshipping infernals. I had it razed to the ground to prevent the spread of infernal worship. By your mentioning, I can only suspect that you were one who escaped?”

>HE LIES. HE KILLED A GIRL, AND RAIZED THE VILLAGE TO COVER IT.

“You killed a girl?”

“So, you know of the priestess. You are complicit. Kill him.” More feet rushing. This is the moment of truth. You seize your chance.

>THE SPIRIT WAS A FIRE SPIRIT, AN HE PANICKED. ONLY FIVE WARRIORS ESCAPED. (One of them told your creator the tale when he arrived to pick up some weapons) KILL HIM.

A rush of wind, a touch of pressure, and it is done. Jameson had done well for a rookie soldier, and had stabbed you right into Moore’s heard. You drink greedily of the heart blood.

At the same time, you hear the sound of pounding feet, and a yell “My Lord!”

‘What do I do? What do I do?’

You feel energy fill you, then disperse. Good. These abilities will be useful. There’s not time to apply the grand of power, Jameson’s former comrades are already circling around him. If he draws back his spear for even a second, they’ll take advantage to strike. The advantage of a spear is reach, and it has almost no defense once you get inside it.

>You have to fight your way out. PIERCE THEM, and PUNCH YOUR WAY THROUGH.

Your host gulps and then steels himself. Then, in a surprisingly fast movement, he jets forward, slicing into one of the men’s forearms. A large gash opens up, and you drink of the blood greedily. Another lunge brings him forward, before he abruptly stops.

You briefly curse your lack of vision, before a voice calling out reveals why. “Just stop there, traitor! You’re not going to get away!”

“Damian, don’t block my way! If I have to, I’ll attack!”

“Try it!” And then blades clash. You grind along steel. It’s good steel, but in the end, it is inferior. It is a sword, and you are a spear. Both of your wielders are fairly new to combat, and the sword’s owner cannot circumvent your reach. You punch through his defense, slicing the wrist.

Push back the other two with minor knicks and cuts, you push through. The men facing you are not particularly courageous or foolhardy, and that gives you a better chance. If they were, with the sacrifice of one, or maybe two of them, they would have overwhelmed your host. But they value their lives more than slaying your host, and so you make it out
>>
A cry comes from the tent you just left. “Kill the spear wielder! He’s a traitor and an infernalist! He’s assassinated Lord Moore!” And then, you’re plunged back into combat.

Thrusts are the move of the day. They don’t require that much skill to pull off, just aim for center of mass, and lunge away. But they’re only good against one opponent at a time. And once you’ve lunged, if you don’t make it count, you’re dead meat, as you can’t bring that spear back quickly enough to counter that quick sword swing.

You don’t know how you know all that much about wielding yourself, considering you’re a spear, not a spearman, but you do. You make a snap decision.

>Run! You can’t take all of them on!

And Jameson runs. If there’s one thing good about the boy, it’s his footwork. He dashes through tiny openings, and makes it to the gate. You smash against some wood, and slice downwards towards a thick knot of rope. A little vibration makes short work of it, and you hear something crash into the ground. Then, movement again.
>>
Finally, you come crashing down. There’s some pressure on your pole length, presumably Jameson leaning on you, and then it lightens before you are flipped ninety degrees, to lay horizontal to the ground.

“What are you?” Jameson’s amazed breathless voice asks a question.

>I’m a spear.

“How did you know that much about Lord Moore anyways?”

>I….. I don’t know.

And it’s strange. You truly don’t. Just like how you didn’t know where you learned spear fighting from.

“…what do I do now?”

All very good examples of fantasy spear fighting. It's kind of funny that I'd bring this up seeing as that we're dealing with spirits and witches..
As they're a central point in that series.

I was going to link Saber vs. Lancer in Fate-zero but the choreography isn't really that good.. at least in a non-magical superhuman sense. It also lacks the finesse..

All in good time.

I think short-spear > Long Spear Length should be a priority to help reduce the ability for a swordsman to step in. Then again, if we teach the boy to use the entire spear rather than the point, he should be far better at keeping distance and maintaining his area and guard.

We should probably lean on burning fury so that we can make people think twice if the first strike doesn't do it.. Other than that, I'm not sure what else we could do.. Unless we start developing the ability to cancel enchantments, or inflict wounds that do not heal.. preferably the latter. That shit is horrifying.
You know, because it'd just KEEP bleeding.
>>
>>26474586

Hold it at your dominant side, arm fully extended down your side, sufficiently high that it doesn't hit your feet as you walk, preferably with the butt in your hand, but if the spear is sufficiently long, that might prove unwieldy. Lean the upper shaft against your shoulder. This keeps the spear from jostling around as you walk, which is a major source of strain.

Alternatively, you can hold it braced across your body two handed, dominant hand lower, off hand upper. This is an easier grip to maintain, but is more tiring in long marches. Generally you switch to this grip from the marching grip as your unit sets up to jog in formation prior to a charge

Patiently awaiting our glorious OP's return so that we can continue our adventure in his magical realm.

We should probably push for a spirit of vengeance that feeds off of its wielder's emotion of hatred and lust for satisfaction.. Gaining control of our host and possessing him fully as a puppet. Our contract should reflect this in that it gives us a direct hold over them.

Well yes obviously if he dies thats what we do, if the next guy sucks.
Its just the whole contract thing has to be willing and we might as well do that with someone not shit enough that we dont have to mind fuck him.

>[x] Why not all 3 short term actions? Contract, ask him to name you, examine your capabilities.
>[x] Hide out in the forest and train Jameson

The first thing you do is put your new abilities to work. Well, right after Jameson finishes freaking out.

“Seriously, what the hell am I going to do? The whole army’s probably hunting me down right now, and I can’t go back home to my family?”

>You have a family?

“Yeah. 2 siblings, and a whole lot of cousins. Parents are good honest folk….. Anyway, I can’t go back, otherwise the army’s going to get them involved, too! Shit!”

>You could always make a contract with me.

“Contract?”

>You could have amazing power if you could?

“….are you sure you’re not a demon disguised as a weapon? I mean, you seem pretty like the stories I’ve heard of infernals, and worse yet, the devil beasts that find small girls in the night and lure them away with false promises.”

>No… at least, I don’t think so. I’m just a spear.

“Spears usually don’t talk to people in their heads.

>Why are you so chatty now, anyways?

“Why?” A short maniacal giggle follows this question. Is he starting to crack? There are fault lines spreading across his psyche. “I’ve just killed the lord who protected my home village for years on a pretty shaky business, followed the instructions of a possible infernal, and am now being hunted by the very army that I was part of not a few hours ago! I think that would make anyone chatty, don’t you?”

He breathes, heavily. It’s quiet in the forest, as the birds have all gone silent for some reason. His life has turned upside down, and he’s not handling the stress well. It’s a normal reaction for humans.

Not for you, though. You’re a spear. You’d just keep going.

Finally, he takes a couple of deep breaths. “You know what, I’ll accept the contract. I’m doomed anyways if it really turns out you just want my soul. So, what do I do?”
>>
You talk him slowly through the contracting process. After a few questions he makes (“Blood letting? And you’re not a demon?”) which are completely useless and serve no point, you make the contract.

Great first club which brought food for the cavemen. You can see.

YOU CAN SEE. THERE ARE COLORS EVERYWHERE. IT’S LIKE... YOU ACTUALLY CAN’T DESCRIBE IT. IT’S AMAZING.

WHAT IS THIS SECOND THING> IT’S LIKE THE ESSENCE OF THE FOREST IS INFUSING YOU.

>WHAT IS THE THING THAT HAPPENS WHENEVER YOU BREATHE? THE THING LIKE SIGHT BUT LIKE GOING INTO YOU?

“Um, you mean smelling?”

>YES, SMELLING. THAT’S IT. IT’S AMAZING.

“…alright?”

After your initial, ahem, freak-out, you ask him for a name.

“How about Crazy Over Smelling?”

>Crazy Over Smelling it-

“No, wait, I was just kidding!” He waves his arms frantically to your propped up form against a tree. You don’t really understand why. You can only see through his eyes. Humans are weird.

>What’s wrong with that name?

“A weapon with a mind a power like you have should have a special name. It’s only common sense.” He seems to be reminiscing over something. You have no idea what it is. “How about Winter’s Tooth?”

>….but, I am not a tooth, and even if I was, I wouldn’t be one of winter.

“No, no, no, it’s just a name.” He sighs. “It’s like, names have to be grand. You get it?”

.No, you actually don’t. To you, names are just a label to describe function. But whatever will make this strange host you’ve chosen happy.
>>
Through repeated testing, you discover the extent of your abilities. Jameson is even faster than before, and his strength is slightly better than most of the warriors you faced before. Though, as he’s not used to it, when you tell him to run, he often smashes into things. You’ll have to fix that in the days to come.

when you evoke ice cold fury, it’s like everything is so clear. jameson says your voice changes. you don’t quite understand what he means. you feel like everything is the same as usual.

Anyway, when you bring it to the surface, the ice itself crystallizes on your surface. Controlling it to a specific part lessens the effect, somewhat, but you are able to bring it to freezing temperatures, and turn water to ice in seconds.

The vibration is amazing. You’re able to cut through t-t-things that you could already c-c-cut through in seconds, cutting through w-w-wood in only a short amount of time. It turns out be quite u-u-useful, as you’re able to use it to set up a shelter in a little over an h-h-hour. Though you’re not sure about its use against other blades, not having a chance to use it yet.

Tomorrow, you’ll start on the training.
>>
>Insert montage music of your choice here

>>Day 1

>Alright, so now, cut along various planes

“Like this?”

>No, control your swings. Don’t swing wildly. If someone gets inside my range, you’re dead. The spear’s main advantage is its reach, and its ease of use.

“Can’t I just dodge?”

>Who do you think you are, an elf? There’s no way you’re going to be that nimble.

>>Day 2

>Pull back quickly. Quickly!

“Right. Thrust-“

>Don’t just thrust wildly! The moment you extend is a moment someone with a shorter weapon can get into your swing range! You create an opening every time you thrust!

>>Day 3

>Alright, so twirl it around. You can redirect the blow to the outside, and attack.

“Right, I-ow! That’s too fast!”

>You think an enemy is going to let you get that blow in? Set the wood up again, and we’ll try it again.

>>Day 4

>So pole fighting is like this. Block. Don’t let them get a grp on the pole.

“Alright. Like this?”

>Watch your fingers. They might try to sweep the sword to catch them.

“Got it.”

>>Day 5

>This stance lets you shorten your range, in order to tighten up your defense.

“…I’m just grasping a little farther up the pole.”

>Don’t underestimate stances. They may spell the difference between life and death.

“Why would I want to shorten my reach, anyways?”

>Sometimes, you might fight an opponent who knows how to circumvent your reach. You should sacrifice it then, as it will only be a hinderence.

And so you trained, the last who days practicing specific combat scenarios against every type of weapon you could think of, from swords, to chains, to other spears.

Your training only lasted one week. An …interesting even came up, that ended it there.

>Relatively speedy update, it's a miracle!

A familiar feeling comes to you. Jameson wakes up, and you realize that the forest is on fire.

Heat, that’s what you were feeling. That’s why it was so familiar.

…oh, wait, fire is lethal to humans. That would explain why Jameson’s freaking out.

“Oh fuck, oh shit! We gotta get outta here, man.”

you swallow your anger at this obvious observation, and bleed the heat from the air. jameson’s an idiot. while you’re running, you pass by a woman who’s futily rying to put out the fire. she seems to be weeping.

“My forest! My forest!” after a bit of pitiful weeping, she spots jameson, and growls. “You! Were you the ones who set my forest on fire?”

“Look lady, I didn’t even have any flint and steel! I had to eat all of the meat raw! It tasted like blood!”

you don’t see what’s wrong with the taste of blood. while jameson and the lady continued their pointless bickering, which you would note if they let you get in a word edgewise, was only wasting time as the fire came closer, you realized what the lady was.
>>
>>26477779
Shit, we should have been a chain...
>>
she was a land god, or more specifically, a spirit bound to the essence of a natural feature. (other terms include elemental, kami, etc, etc.) likely the spirit of this forest. no wonder she was so pissed about the fire. when the forest was gone, she wouldn’t necessarily die, but she would lose a great deal of her power a great, great deal.

and that would make he vulnerable to other, less savory things. like the fire that was now spreading towards her.

>[] Tell Jameson to hurry the hell out. The lady can take care of herself.

could the land spirit boost us with her power? Overcharge our ice and freeze the fire out?
>>
>>26478709
This.

Although a chill that strong would probably also kill the forest.
>>
>>26478709
A forest type land spirit like this would usually have nature based powers. Power transfer is probably impossible, considering you two have different types of power; her power comes from her bond with the earth, which yours comes from force of will, and the blood sacrifices.

That said, she might have a cold based power. There's not harm in asking, other than letting the fire creep ever closer to devouring you all.

You could also attempt to parley or destroy the spirit of the fire, that is, if you managed to call it out.
>>
I like the idea of battling the spirit of fire.
>>
>>26478831
Battle the spirit of fire. We've been training Johnson, so it's time to put that training to use. Can't learn everything on the training field after all.

Besides, if we destroy the spirit, we could get some more power for our heat manipulation.

>That is some amazing luck.

you draw jameson’s attention away from his bickering contest.

>we need to draw out the fire spirit. follow my in-

‘Don’t worry, I have this.’ upon hearing this, you immediately worry. this tone never means good things for you. you’ve learned.

the last time jameson spoke with this tone, he let a wild chicken get away, and then it came back with its family and nearly pecked jameson to death. and he had you on him at the time.

chickens are deadly.

“I heard fire spirits are really lively and cute, and I’d really like to meet one of them!”

you imagine you would hear crickets chirping at this point, except they’re all being consumed by the fire, and instead of chirping, their bodies are crackling horribly in the flames.

“Cu…..cu….cute?” a blurry, humanoid shape emerges out of the fire, unable to retain a definite form.

oh what the fuck this can’t be happening.

>jameson, i trust in your ability to do this. to not screw up. to not screw up by a lot.

he sounds somewhat hurt. “Gee, thanks, partner.”

>try not to die.

with those words full of faith in his diplomatic abilities, you let him head off on his way. he sidles up to the fire spirit and gives her a smile. “Hey.”

the fire spirit tilts its head to the side and makes a happy crackling noise, but otherwise does not talk. jameson scratches the back of his head nervously. “So, um, do you think you could stop the fire from spreading to the other parts of the forest?”

the fire spirit makes a quizzical expression. “But….. fire….. fire…. needs….. eat!” with the last word, it throws both arms up in the air in an expression that some would consider ‘adorable’.

“Um, right. The fire needs stuff to burn. But you don’t have to spread the fire. I could bring you wood, if you just stopped the fire from spreading?”

the flame spirit thinks for a bit. it takes a while. ‘You…. bring….. food?’

jameson nods. “Yeah, I could bring you firewood, and you could stay in our camp.” it’s actually quite a good idea, to tame the fire spirit with promises of a stable supply of burnables, rather than having her continue her unstable existence.

of course, jameson’s probably not thinking of that. his thoughts are probably more along to lines of having fire to cook with.

the fire spirit smiles. ‘I…. like!” it hugs jameson’s arm. of course, being made out of pure fire, that turns out to be quite painful.

>jameson, are you alright? you’re suffering first degree burns all over your left arm. do you want to do something about that?

he winces. ‘No, I’m alright.’ he interjects that with a hiss of pain. ‘Yep, totally fine.’
>>
he doesn’t sound fine. nevertheless you cease prodding into the matter. it is at this point, the wood spirit marches up to Jameson.

“Hey, what’s this about using my trees for firewood? I never-“ the fire spirit shoots her a glare, and she stops in her tracks.

“Ah, right.” jameson still has a painful grimace on his face. “I was wondering if you could show me where the deadwood in the forest is, so I could help build her campfire.”

the wood spirit blinks, looks rapidly between the jameson, and the fire spirit, and nods, slowly. then, she seems to remember herself, and stands up straighter. “Well, since you asked my so nicely, I feel like I could do you this one favor.”

….did jameson really manage to resolve this whole situation by flirting with fire?

‘By the way, what are you still speaking like that? With the non capitalization thing? It’s kinda creepy.’
