>Rules: Actions require a 1d100 to resolve. From now on, in order to try and prevent the crazytrain (I'm sorry but it has to be done), please do NOT roll unless an action has been decided on. This is to prevent people from just hopping on the critical rolls.

You are Hairy McTerrorcastle. At age five, you were identified as magically apt, and thus required to undergo training under the Control of Magic Edicts. At age ten, you began this training and education, learning basic control as well other life skills at the Fifth Circle Academy. At age fifteen, you entered the last phases of your education, and were given the offer to specialise in a School. Having chosen the School of Summoning, your journey began in full.

After meeting your fellow students and your Magister, the enthusiastic Pythianne, you went on to do some light independent research - this lead to a journey to a different plane, the Entropic Plane. A brief foray into it's depths, a quick bite of a musical 'fruit', and you encountered a strange 'man', hanging from a dead tree. He offered to dance with you, but you couldn't keep up.

Immediately the next day, you ran to the Magister to inform her of what had happened. Delivering a simultaneous scolding and congratulations, she mentioned that she went through much the same process herself but did not meet the same entity you did.

You left then, to ponder what you found and mull over what has happened. It has been a few days since then.

What did you do for that time?

Ideally also try to find the Divination teacher around somewhere, and nonchalantly ask all about the whole astral projection deal.
Unless it was covered intensely before. I only recall the follow up conversations after we returned to our body.

Failing all that, bond with bowie. See if maybe we can learn some imp magic.

Your main focus is getting tutoring with Pythianne whenever you can. You need to get better at Summoning, or your dreams of wealth and power will never be realised after all!

She is, however, only available sporadically - her Magisterial duties see her teaching other years of Students, overseeing research projects, and hugging things that don't obey Euclidean Geometry.

You decide to fill the time with whatever you can. Your little group of friends, Lutharius, Drazeen and Jaqul (when he isn't off doing... whatever it is he does) are usually available for you to discuss the latest happenings and random things. Aside from some basic gossip, mentions of the Magisters, nothing really occurs here. You do learn that Drazeen studies Elemental Magic and Jaqul is studying Illusions.

You wake up on a cold Saturday morning, pondering what your next actions will be. When you look over, Jaqul is wrapped up tightly in his blankets, and his desk is bare save for a single sheaf of parchment. Your own is still littered with the various books you own and/or have borrowed.

It is currently around 9am.

>+4 to Summoning (Source: Tutoring)

You've begun every morning with a communal breakfast. Why stop now? People might go hungry after all.

You shamble down to the kitchen, and set to work cooking a large breakfast for everyone you know - bacon, eggs, sausage and some pancakes for four. You're fairly sure there are others in the Dormitory, you've passed them by, but you've yet to properly meet them. They get nothing.

Footsteps echo from the stairs, and you give them a brief 'Good morning'.

"Sunny side up for mine." The voice doesn't belong to anyone you know. It sounds older than anyone in your year as well.

You look up into a pair of cold hazel eyes belonging to the Magister in white. Vann, the Divination Magister. You are dimly aware that this is the first time you've seen him awake.

This does not answer what's he doing here right now though.

Oh god it's a Magister! Keep it together Hairy!

"Sure thing, sir! Is that it? Would you like some coffee?" You attempt to sound not-surprised at his presence. "Milk. Two sugars." He mutters sleepily with a yawn.

You begin making his eggs, and shuffle over to the enchanted pantry, reaching into retrieve some milk, and a small bag of ground coffee beans. You aren't sure where it all comes from, but it's always fresh, and kept refrigerated by glowing runes.

"So, uh, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" You say hopefully, placing a pot of water onto a Heating Rune.

He gives you an annoyed glance. "... If you ask me to read your future..."

"Oh, no, I just wanted to know about Astral Projection." He gives you a half-lidded stare and just makes an 'mmhmm' noise. You don't think that's a no.

"That's why I'm here, actually." He stretches slightly, and you hear his back crack. "Ask your roommate how he sleeps on that slab he calls a bed."

"I don't think he really sleeps...." Hairy speculates... "So, you want to wait until after breakfast to talk?"

Vann shrugs his shoulders with a popping sound and another yawn. "No, he does sleep. He left a note for you, actually. Said he was looking at the library." He wrinkles his nose slightly at this. "He should be careful. Library's a strange place."

He yawns once more, something he clearly does a lot of, but lets out a light sigh. "No, I won't have time after breakfast. I'll settle my business now, and take the coffee to go. Jaqul prefers them sunny side, by the way, and he'll be back soon."

He looks at you directly now, and you can see a glimmer of something in his eyes. It fades away rather quickly. Huh.

"Magister Pythianne wants to see you tomorrow, for a Research Experiment revolving around Astral Projection. She'll tell you more about it, but that's not really why I'm here." He pauses slightly.

"What are your intentions regarding my sister?"

>Response?
>>
"That would depend entirely on who your sister is really, and even then, I don't think I've been here long enough to have any 'intentions' as of yet. I mean sure, there's that long put off world domination scheme, but that's miles away." This is of course said with an entirely joking tone.

You play it off as a joke, but he doesn't smile. Awk-ward. "Be careful about who you 'joke' to about such topics, McTerrorcastle." He says it in a warning tone and with an edge that says he doesn't believe your joking.

"Your a sharp boy, you know who I'm talking about. She's a grown woman, and she can make her own decisions but I'm still her brother. And a Magister, at that."

You finish making the coffee and hand it to him. "She tells me your the only student she's had in about five years that enjoys her class. I don't know if you honestly enjoy it, or whether you are trying to get into her skirt, and frankly, it's not really my business. But I will tell you this, Hairy McTerrorcastle."

He looks you dead in the eye now.

"Be careful what you're getting into."

You... weren't expecting that. He sips his coffee and turns to leave. "Now if you excuse me, my lecture is about to begin and I need to go sleep in Magister Fayleve's closet."

>>
>>26497522
I like her sincerity and openness. Which is probably why her brother's so protective.

My two cents is that getting close to Pythianne's not a bad thing, we just can't fuck her over if we do.

You nod. "My interest is sincere. Have a nice... nap, sir." Whether he hears you or not, he doesn't respond, sipping his coffee lightly as he leaves through the door.

The door itself swings open a few moments after, a tired looking Jaqul dragging his feet in. He eyes the eggs a little detachedly, and sits down by the table, dumping a bunch of books on it.

"... Have you been to the Library?" He asks you quietly, staring down at the books. He seems... exhausted.

"... And?" So? You debated doing it, but the directions were fairly clear. Go left.

"That was at about seven. After an hour and half of walking straight left... I ended up back at the main desk. I'm never setting foot in there again." He mutters,

"... Thanks." He mutters, a little unsure, but begins stuffing his face rather hungrily with the food. You don't think he ate breakfast before leaving, an an hour or so of walking around has made him rather hungry.

You take a moment to glance at his books. Most of them cover Illusion and Illusion related topics, but there is one about general magic.

"So, what are you doing today?" He mutters in between mouthfuls. You think he's just making conversation as opposed to offering to hang out with you right now, but he seems a bit friendlier then usual.

What are you doing today?

You tell him your going to study a bit more today. You haven't gotten through most of the Planar Encyclopedia, and there IS that Book on Succubi...

You make a mental note however, to maybe return to the Library at a later date to get more books. Is there a limit on books you can borrow? You'll have to ask next time you're there... and hope you can get a clear answer.

You have a few days until the books have to be returned (and you aren't sure how that actually occurs). You head back to your room, and tell Jaqul to inform everyone that the food is free. You omit the fact that a Magister slept in his bed.

Your room is as you left it. Jaqul's parchment simply reads 'Off to the Library'. You turn to your pile of books, and sit down for some reading.

But which book do you read first?

You need to research the Entropic Plane. Your last trip there was... exciting to say the least. Pythianne didn't tell you much about it, unfortunately, but maybe there's information in the Planar Encyclopedia?

You open to the contents page, scan down until you hit 'Plane of Entropy'. Much further into the book and... only a few pages long apparently. Huh. You flip through the pages until you reach the section.

There isn't much here at all.

The Plane of Entropy, or Entropic Plane, first discovered by Jackyl the Traveller, was originally a Plane of little importance or interest. Named after it's dead and lifeless appearance, Jackyl promptly left to explore more interesting Planes.

Magi of the past have occasionally visited the Entropic Plane out of curiousity, some using it as a refuge, others just to see what it's like for themselves. None found anything of note until Kaline, Court Magister to the Emperor.

His planned brief trip became much longer when he encountered an entity he only named The Sand Man. Described as a human-like blob of sand, with one glowing white eye and one empty void for the other, the Sand Man reputedly followed Kaline wherever he went in the Plane but said nothing or did nothing otherwise.

This discovery sparked a great deal of interest in the Plane of Entropy, but the amount of encounters remains low. As of the time of printing, the last encounter was by Magister Thuriel of the Fifth Circle Academy, who encountered an entity he called 'The Archives'.

That's all the information contained about the Entropic Plane. You check the date of printing - a decade or so ago.

The book begins with the basics of the spell, and goes into more detail about binding methods. He finds it is more useful to create a Magical Circle if possible, especially if Summoning alone. Depending on the nature of the Succubi, failing to bind them may prove either disastrous or simply mildly irritating - dependent on whether it's your very life they feed upon, or just some other emotions.

He does mention it's very hard to summon the type you want, but establishing partnerships and contracts is fairly easy - once you've proven a steady source of whatever it is they feed upon, they're very happy to be summoned by you.

You unfortunately, do not get a grasp of the spell, but you've made some progress. You think. You could probably try casting it, but there's no telling what will happen.

The Book of Names is exactly what it says on the cover. Portrait after Portrait of Demons, Devils, Imps, all sorts of Infernal beings. Each accompanied with a name and an aside. If Planes had a phone book, you imagine this might be the Infernal's.

However, reading the names and practicing them does nothing - when you do pronounce them, you feel... nothing. Even attempting to say Bowie's name makes you feel a little heat in your chest, the tiniest sting of smoke in your sinuses.

You are about to give up entirely on the book, when you catch sight of a name.

Haztoraxifeliv. Reading it in your head, you feel a tinge of warmth, and your hair stands on end just slightly. The portrait resembles Bowie.

>Haztoraxifeliv

Giving a brief 'Hi' to both Lutharius and Drazeen, you head over to the girl, and glance at the cover of the book. 'Elixirs Most Excellent'. An Alchemy student.

She's curled up in the corner of an L-Couch, but you sit next to her, and say "Hi." She glances up, and looks at you from between red strands of hair and gives you a shy smile.

"Ariane? That's a pretty name." You shift a little closer. She flushes the tiniest bit. "So you're studying Alchemy I assume?" She nods at this. "I'm studying Summoning myself."

She gives you another surprised look, and then gives you another once over. You're beginning to suspect she can't speak.

You pull out a notepad and begin writing on it. She gives you an interested glance but returns to her book.

Your note finished, you hand it to her. She blinks in surprise before reading it. Pulling an ink pen of her own from one of her pockets, she scribbles a swift reply.

It reads: "I'm good! Alchemy's quite nice. Magister Ahavan's is really clumsy though, so he's apparently been banned from practical demonstrations. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it! Although, I can't really do anything else because of well, yeah."

She puts her book down now, and smiles at you. You think you've made a friend if nothing else.

You write down a few more things on the notepad. She glances over them, smiles at you again, and starts writing her responses. Yeah. You've made a friend here.

"Breakfast? Mostly I have toast or something. Um... Oats?

Thanks for the offer of help! I'll keep it in mind. I can't really help you with Summoning, though, :(

Nice talking to you! :P"

You give her the notebook afterwards, and she gives you a perplexed stare. "Keep it. As a memento." You flash her another 'winning smile' and turn to head off to the Summoning Chambers. She blushes and buries her nose into her book as you leave. Hairy McTerrorcastle strikes again!

The trip to the Summoning Chambers is relatively uneventful. You pass the Force Magister, Ranafiel, carrying the Archmagister piggyback style. Everyone was staring at them, as the Archmagister declared 'Onwards noble steed!'

The Magister for his part didn't seem to mind or even care all that much.

Aside from that, you make it to the Summoning Chambers without issue, and knock on the door. It doesn't open.

She must not be in. Maybe she's somewhere in the Chambers?

You attempt to open the door. The knob doesn't so much as turn. The last times you've opened the door you... just knocked. Maybe it's magical? It's probably magical.

Seeing as if she is in, she's apparently not answering her door, you decide to wander the Summoning Chambers. You can see some students working under the supervision of senior Magi.

"... and try not to mumble the words! That's a big one!" You find the Magister helping one of the other students you remember seeing in your class. "Alright, now try it again."

The student, a tall boy with a pair of thick glasses, repeats a Spell you don't recognise. There's a flash of fire and smoke and... a small ball of fire hovers before him. It pulses rhythmically with heat and flame. It flares and the boy squeaks and flinches. The Magister mutters a spell and holds out her hands.

The sentient fireball dims slightly. "Dismissed." With that, it vanishes. Shaking her head slightly, she turns to face you.

"Hi! Would you like to practice as well?"

At some point during the name learning, you casted a quick Channel Summoning to keep Bowie around for a bit longer.

But you find the name easier and easier to say. You think you've really made some headway!

>+20% to learning Bowie's Name!
>50% done learning Bowie's Name!

Bowie for his part seems quite pleased with your progress. The Name starts call up images of scrolls and tomes, and the smell of ink as well as the heat and smoke. The more you learn, the more you seem to 'feel' the Name.

Bowie settles on your shoulder for now, as you ponder your next move.

"Say, Bowie. When you said you wanted names of powerful people, does anyone count?" The Imp flexes his wings.

"Krrr-rrk. No need to know Summoners, Imps learn them anyway. Summoner wants to deal, they will Summon. Interested in others." He gives you another shrewd look.

"Why? Krr-ka want to deal?"

Hmmm, we probably should have cracked open a Recent History of Magic book, but oh well. I've got no ideas.
>>
Rolled 20

>>26502200
Basically, we allow summoning 24/7 by name obtaining, from there he gives us examples of good/bad summoners, we find said people, and thus we obtain information to barter, this leads to mutual profit.
Should talk to the teacher if this is legal though, maybe even do it with her.
>>
Rolled 14

>>26502248
And lose our monopoly? Really, we should just skirt around asking her what the laws are regarding trading with Infernals and other outsiders rather than coming clean immediately
>>
>>26502248
>Should talk to the teacher if this is legal though, maybe even do it with her.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission. Right now we've got plausible deniability so we should roll with it.

So we're basically trading names of powerful people for... whatever, right? I think getting a recommendation on a good succubus would save a lot of trouble over randomly summoning one. That's what I would trade for.
>>

You spend another practicing Bowie's name.

You feel you are fairly complete on it now. Perfection is just around the corner. You've been to taste things when you say it now - ink, you're not that surprised to learn. It's bitter.

"Krr-ka not bad. Not bad at all. Want to talk deal?" You nod, and decide to find a more secluded area. Might be best, if you're going to deal with Infernal entities. Even if only for names.

"I might know a few people. I don't know if you already know them though."

You debate whether to ask Magister Pythianne about this or not. It bears further thought.

Before that, you ask Bowie about the nature of trades. More information may make the decision easier.

"Can you be more specific about the kind of names you want?" He flicks his tail again, and ponders it for a little bit.

"Hmm... Names of Summoners pointless. Names of other powerful Mages... not so pointless. Many Mage never summon before. Hard to know of them."

Someone like Magister Pythianne is almost definitely known to the Infernal Plane. She DID summon a Daemon. Speaking of which, nearly all the class summoned Imps, so they're out of the question.

Maybe the other Magisters might be worth name dropping? You wonder if he's heard of Jasper. He did teach General Magic though, which will apparently cover all topics.

"So if I gave you the name of a powerful Mage who doesn't Summon... you'd give me something in return?" The Imp nods.

"Depending on power of Mage. What did Krr-ka have in mind?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe the Name of a Succubus? One who won't try to suck out my life?"

The Imp laughs at you. "All Succubus suck out life. Just in different ways. We might know of one."

But, practicing magic unsupervised is not allowed, any magic we learn will effectively useless.
That's another reason why we need to consult her.
And come on, HER BROTHER was concerned about us getting to close, she trusts us.
>>
>>26502512
>If you decide to learn his name a bit more, you can roll to do so - but first you have to decide what the hell you're doing before making any more rolls.

>>26502530
>Practicing SUMMONING unsupervised is banned. Practicing other types of Magic unsupervised is permitted (and encouraged).

>>26502529
What about magic we don't use here? Or again Blood magic?

And goddamn it going to the teacher is the best thing here.
>>
>>26502530
>But, practicing magic unsupervised is not allowed
Nope, only summoning needs to be supervised.

>>26502529
I think we can safely tell him about the force mage who was so powerful they remodeled the entire school to fit his wanderings. He's probably an urban legend in our world anyway so anyone might have leaked the info.
>>

>>26502555
And you're saying he can't also teach us summoning?

So Archmagister, what is the general opinion on blood magic?

Is it treated like anything other magic?
Is it seen as a necessary evil?

I just would like some more info on it.

"Alright, I'll see what I can do for that. In the meantime, let me see if I can't master your name so that we can make our little business relationship more accessible so we can discuss this whenever."

Thought I got rid of the dice roll, sorry about that

it was discussed in the first thread. It was looked down on but it's allowed as long as the caster only uses his own life force for spells, and not other peoples' life force.

Does anyone have any qualms about trading the force magister's name?

I'd rather not trade the Magister's names because that could come back on us. Researching the names of contemporary mages though...

>1's
>McTerrorcastle's powers are waning!

You try to practice Bowie's name a bit more. It can't hurt, can it? But you seem to have hit a stone wall and make no progress. At all.

"Hello! Is this room taken? Oh! Hi!" Magister Pythianne pokes her head in, and smiles when she sees you with your Imp. Student's practicing Summoning always makes her happy. Now is no different.

"Hello again! Come down for a bit of practice? How are you going, nearly there?"

She seems a little... frazzled. Her hair is smoking in some places. Bits of her robes are splattered with various substances you can't identify. She glances down at herself.

"Oh! Lord, I'm a mess! Sorry, I was just helping Dio with some apothecarial work and well, Lyssa was on standby to try and limit the inevitable collateral. Don't worry! I'm not injured! Gareth looked me over."

>Actions?

"Hi there! I've almost got this guy's name down pat... but the very last bit of the essence of his name is eluding me. Any pointers you could possibly give?"

>Then demonstrate where we're at.

Rolled 99

Just the right person, I need to talk to you.
>>
>>26502796
So the two 1s cancel out the 8? Fair enough I guess.

Let's ask her if we should look up anything for tomorrow's experiment and mention her brother stopped by this morning.
>>
>>26502850
I take best of three, but critfail's are the exception. Two critfails are a super exception.
>>
>>26502861
Makes sense. also real quick what is our current progress on Bowie's name?
>>
>>26502850
Yeah, he said during the first session that critfails override.
>>

"Hi there! I've almost got his name down pat, it's just the last bit that's eluding me. Any pointers? I've made it to about..." You say the Name once more. She looks fairly impressed at your progress.

She makes a humming noise and looks at Bowie. "Well... none I haven't already given you I'm afraid. Just keep at it! You'll get it, I'm sure!"

"Well, what about tomorrow's experiment? Should I look up anything for that?"

"Tomorrow's... Oh! Right! Almost forgot! Um, not really no, but, I do need you to sign something!" She grabs you by the hand and begins dragging you towards her office. "Just some basic waivers, you know, in case it all goes pearshaped. It won't! I think. I hope so. But, you know, experiments! Who knows?"

The door opens automatically as she approaches it and ushers you into a chair. She rummages around in her desk and presents you with a single sheet of parchment. It's just a declaration that the signer knows the risks of practicing the experiment.

"... What experiment is it, exactly?" She beams at you.

"We're going to travel to the Entropic Plane again! This time, you know, with me there to supervise!"

>I might call it here now I'm afraid.
>Feel free to ask some questions if you have any.
>Next session will probably be in a few days around... Sunday 2100 4chan time? I'll put it up on my twitter.

oh well, cant wait till next quest keep em up OP, and maybe we could have a class assessment were the students show their progress and stuff??

AWWWWW YEAH
>>
>>26503161
Only been a week.
>>
>>26503220
>>26503161
I'm terrified of the idea of coming into the assessment and realizing that everyone is twice as advanced as we are. Like all the classmates were asian and we just didn't notice.

I still have PTSD from some uni classes.
>>
>>26503267
Hmmm, how far away is charm or dominate from summoning? That'd fix our classmates.
>>
>>26503291
You don't know of any spells that charm or dominate people.

You do know it's possible though. The War of the Wizards involved large amounts of dominated soldiers marching to their deaths. Sometimes for actual purposes!
>>
>>26503302
Damn, we really should read a history book at some point.

>>26503291
Charm spells sound like something we DEFINITELY should learn at some point. Would that fall under illusion? We might need to get closer to Jaqul after all.
>>
>>26503326
Binding and dominating can't be too different...

Can we dominate humans. That is an interesting possibility.
>>
Rolled 31

>>26503326
Lets not turn full evil yet anon, lets keep to the school rules, at least until we're powerful enough to break them and have no one oppose us.
>>
>>26503385
I mean bind humans. Hurr surr, so smart
>>
>>26503390
I'm not saying go out and charm everyone indiscriminately into being cannon fodder, but a little charm now and then can come in handy, you know?

I bet a succubus would know a lot about charming people~
>>
Rolled 50

>>26503409
Only physically, it seems.
And I suppose as long as we're not going fully blown mind control it'll be alright.
>>
I'm completely against even going for any mind magic, beyond what's needed to protect ourselves from it, at all for the sole reason that /tg/ NEVER uses it to its full potential because morals.

It just doesn't work. It looks cool on paper, but then people start feeling bad about forcing someone to do things and it all breaks down.
>>
>>26503469
What if we let the potential NPC Succubus companion deal with all that then? That way no one feels responsible yet we can still get a small passive charm bonus for {potentially) hanging out with the banging hot succubus all the time.
>>
>>26503556
Then people would just give the succubus moral speeches and get frustrated when it acts like a succubus.

/tg/ and mind magic does not mix.
>>
>>26503578
How unfortunate
