The time has come to lead the noble Sky Sons into legend and glory, friends. Gather around the speaking stone, and show us the wisdom that will make our tribe into kings of Dragon Pass. It's only by your might and your leadership that we will succeed against enemy tribes, evil monsters, and the very land itself. Come, and see the tale unfold before you of the Sky Sons!

>What is King of Dragon's Pass, you weird person?

King of Dragon's Pass is a PC game from 2000. In King of Dragon's Pass, or KoDP, you play as a single tribe of celt/nordic bronze age warriors as they settle, colonize, tame, and eventually dominate a foreign land. In this version of /tg/ Plays, I'll run the game for you all, and I'll carry out the actions that you tell me to in the game, then report back with the results. You can be a part of the complete victory or tragic defeat of a tribe made by /tg/ itself, the Sky Sons!

The last time the council ring convened, the decision was made to guide one of our kin into the godplane so that they may undertake a hero quest. We've given magic to quests, and now is the peak time of the season for our chosen god, Elmal.

There was also the suggestion that our clan chief, Garstal, be the one to undergo Elmal Guards the Stead. Are there any objections to our chief undergoing such a great and momentous task, or should another loyal Elmali undertake this challenge?
>>
>>26513172

Garstal dons the ritual armor and ceremonial shield of Elmal in preparation for his journey into the godplane. Once more, we undergo this journey without assistance from our allies, as the Blackrocks failed to send anyone to assist our efforts. Perhaps they are off raiding the Vostangs in our honor.

But right now, what should Garstal quest for? What should he hope to bring back from the godplane? Seeing as how he's the clan chief, empowering himself would make him and even finer leader. Or he could bless all our nobles with Elmal's light. Fine horses would help our trade and war efforts, or we could ask for Elmal's aid when we are attacked or when we assault others. What our leader strives for is your decision.

Orlanth has left the realms of the living, to repair the broken world. While he is gone, his most loyal and dependable thane, Elmal guards his tribe, the Vinkotlings against the legions of chaos. It's tradition for an Elmali to lead the Sky Sons, so the position of chief is fought over by two candidates. Unfortunately, both suffered when Garstal failed in his heroquest, and their abilities to lead have been shaken somewhat. Also, the clan remembers the omen given to us by Eurmal, about how we need to replace over half the council ring. Including a new chief, that means at least three new faces on the ring.

The first is Endal, a skilled law-keeper and craftsman.

The other option for an Elmali leader is Korlaman, a skilled god-speaker and magic worker. Before his skills were sapped, he was easily the best mage amongst the Sky Sons.

Endal takes up the seat vacated by our lost clan chief with sobriety and honor. Many hope a change in leadership changes the clan's luck.

The eldest members of the ring are Enastarra, Valensta, and Kenstrel, respectively. If we wished, Valensta could retire from the ring and focus solely on deal-making; Hankorl is the next-best trader in the clan, and venerates Chalana Arroy. Though, without Valensta on the ring, we couldn't give as much magic to trade; conversely, with Hankorl, we could give more magic to our people's health.

If there are other recommendations or requests you want of me in this process, I will give them posthaste.
>>
>>26515006

Valensta relishes the idea of trading all year around, and Hankorl is ready to see to the health and magic of our clan.

Ernaldess is the only worshipper of Uralda in the clan, and thus can give more magic to our herds come Sacred Time. But she is not the most skilled in the ways of hoofed kin: that honor actually goes to Renatha, whose knowledge of animals is hands-down, the best in the clan. Should we allow Ernaldess to retire?
>>
>>26515116

Alternatively, we could let Renalda replace Enastakos; she's almost as knowledgeable about farming as he is, allows for the same magics come Sacred Time, and we know all of his god's mysteries and have a shrine to him.

Hankorl's? His skills in customs and leadership are moderate, meaning he is a serviceable, though perhaps not exceptional.

>>26515377

All the 'En' names were getting to me, too.

Is this how we want the council ring to look, fellow thanes?
>>
>>26515404
as long as we've replaced four, it seems good. We would do well to heed the omens, considering our fortune in that last hero quest

Endal, Renalda, Hankorl, and Ernaldess all are inagurated as the new members of the council ring. All of the Sky Sons hope that this change of leadership will give us a change in luck as well.

And indeed, perhaps it has already, for our explorers have found the body of a dragonnewt. According to legends, the body of a dragonnewt can be forged into mighty armor, but some members of the ring see our shrunken herds and wish to trade it away or given as a gift..

What should we do with this newfound treasure?

It seems harvest is something else the Sky Sons are good at, as our stock swell with more than enough to feed the clan and Earth Season almost completed.

However, sickness grips much of the clan, hindering our ability to defend ourselves and take of the earth's bounty. Sacrifices to Chalana Arroy could bring us the Curing ritual, or we could wait for next Sacred Time to give magic to Health. Or perhaps the concerns of the Sky Sons are away from the diseased lying in bed.

It's Ernaldness' first season and I'm already sick of her.

Sickness grips our kin as snow blankets the land. Getting to the tulas of other clans will prove difficult, but building on our own land or managing our resources can be done even when we cannot see past our borders.

We already have one call to build a shrine to Chalana Arroy. Are there objections to such?
>>
>>26515838
I think it'd be better to have a shrine for healing than curing. We should just sacrifice for curing.
>>
>>26515883
at this time, we only know the curing blessing. If, in the future, we learn the healing one, we can switch the same shrine over, or expand the shrine for both

It seems there is a strong desire for a shrine to the Healer, and thus, one is erected under Hankorl's guidance. Perhaps once those taken by illness return to their roles, we'll enact rites of restoration instead of rites of curing.

Despite the depths of Dark Season, visitors come to our tula. Not trolls coming to slay us, thankfully, instead travelers from a far-off land seeking to breathe free and earn their own keep.

Enthralling them would appall our ancestors, who did not enslave others. The entire council ring calls for amnesty and justice to them, but some also point out we do not have many cows for them to tend to. We could assign them land as cottars, so as to not offend our unhappy carls, or advise they go to a nearby clan such as the Rakistanis. How do the Sky Sons treat those who come to us for aid?

>>26515907

We actually know both, but we have no injured and many sick.
>>
>>26515991
Make them be thralls, fuck the ancestors, lol.

Obvious sarcasm, make them cottars.
>>
>>26515991
oh ok, well we can switch over if we sustain injuries. Curing is imperitive now though.

As for the travelers, the Carls would not be happy if we gave them cattle. However, they came to us and we must aid them; they can start as cottars
>>

The rituals to Chalanna Arroy are invoked, and hopefully by next Sea Season, our sick cottars will be fit to till the soil for next year's harvest.

It's a small light amidst much darkness this year, but I do have a bit of good news to report. It seems sometime, we picked up a trade route with the Wolves! Our market convenes Seasonally now, and we're trading away as many fine goods as we can without a temple to Issaries, about 50 cows worth of profit a year. Perhaps the Sky Sons are not as cursed as they say.

But for now, cold still grips our lands in the depths of Dark Season. How should we pass these frozen days until Storm Season comes to us?
>>
>>26516175
Hm. Perchance a feast? Or, if we have the means, finish our fortifications?

Despite our newfound sources of wealth, we do not yet have all the materials needed to finish off our fortifications. A feast is possible, though we should be careful not to strike our food supplies too firmly. Or perhaps send Valensta out to trade soon, and ask for both food and cattle.
>>
>>26516193
I was going to ask, how are our fortifications looking?
>>
>>26516229
attempting to trade in Dark Season? Sounds ballsy enough to be worthy of the Sky Sons. Let's get us some cattle.
>>
>>26516175
Let's work on that temple so we can do so more trading by sacrificing for Issaries' mysteries.
>>
>>26516257

I meant come Storm Season, but if it is the clan's desire, I will at least try. The benefit of our best trader not being on the clan ring is that she can go on missions without needing to worry about being back by Sacred Time.

Issaries gave us the secrets of the Spare Grain ritual. If we invoke its favor, then we shouldn't have to worry about our food supplies for some time, between it and our dutiful farmers.

However, the trolls are here and ready to make good on their earlier promise of slaughter. We're outnumbered once more, but we still have the blessings of Humakt on our side.

How will we protect ourselves from these monsters, fellows?
>>
>>26516352

With the trolls go the coldest days, and Storm Season allows us a better chance to meet our neighbors once more.

That last attack, combined with our sicknesses, has put a dent in our forces. Recruiting more thanes might be wise. As would acquiring more cattle before Sea Season comes around, or invoking the blessing we just learned from Issaries. What do the Sky Sons need the most?
>>
>>26516539

Hey, if it works when the Vostangs do it to us...

A trade mission to acquire more cattle. We don't have immediate need of the blessing from Issaries, it can wait until next year.
>>

If we can recruit more weaponthanes, we should, but we should also trade for cattle as we planned. Cattle should be first, so our trader can get back for Sacred Time.

The Kadarvis possess the fattest herds in Dragon Pass, so sending Valensta there to buy cows strikes me as wisdom.

Another option we have is to take Elmal's Amber to market; our skirmishers are not numerous or particularly supported, and we could exchange it for a more useful treasure or acquire many goods for it. However, it is a gift from our chosen god directly...
>>
>>26516658
All of the benefits we could get for selling it would be nothing next to his disappointment. We should keep the Amber
>>
>>26516658
Says we owe them a favour (gods damn it, who don't we owe a favour?), would trading them the amber repay it?
>>
>>26516722

Generally, pre-emptive gift-giving or repaying when asked fulfills a debt. Trade is trade.
>>
>>26516753

>>
>>26516775

It may impact our ability to arm thanes slightly, but otherwise, yes.

Valensta sets off to the Kadarvis with much of our silver and several of our horses, with expectations of cattle to be following her soon.

However, a chasm opens up in our fields, swallowing up a large chunk of our farmland. Many wish to ask the gods for protection from such occurences again, while the cottars just want to make sure they have enough farmland next Sea Season.

As bad as this seems, it may be a blessing in disguise. After all, it's quite the excuse to cut down trees...
>>

>excuse to cut down trees...

Let's do it, no forest shall be safe from our wrath
>>

The carls accept the promise, but expect to have it made real soon. Given that the planting season isn't far off, it's in everyone's best interests to make sure the farmers have enough land to feed everyone.

And if you'll forgive me, guys, I think I'm going to wrap up a little early tonight. I got a lot of stuff to do tomorrow, and today's been a not friendly one. Plus, Sacred Time is coming up, and that takes a while to do. Next Tuesday, we'll finish up this year and move onto the next one. Orlanth bless us that it's better than this one.

This quest will soon be archived up at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Sky+Sons and I offer apologies, updates, and reminders at https://twitter.com/RingSpeaker. Hope to see everyone around next thread!
