Sorry I'm late fellas, had a pretty late night last night. So uh, news?

Not really any news, except that I can't promise a strict schedule. Keep an eye on the twitter, that should help. So, let's do this.

Archive here:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=MightyM0use

Your new saber gains you quite a few looks and glances.

The junior enlisted personnel look like they want one for themselves. Good, it's something for them to work towards.

The senior enlisted look like they want to try to slay you with their gaze, if for no other reason than Cavalry don't really get sabers anymore, and thus you are woefully out of regulation.

The officers look envious as all hell. Maybe it's something they should've thought about before signing up for some REMF job, you think.

Luckily, the fact that you're burying your own men, and that you spent the previous night writing to their families seems to keep everyone non-mission-critical from speaking to you. Well, there's that, and Anderson cuts an incredibly intimidating figure in his greens. You never knew he had a distinguished service cross, but there it is. Knowing how to properly saber salute helps too.

The service is brief, and having trained almost endlessly on the Achilles/Myrmidon vehicles for the past five days of the week, you've released your company on a weekend liberty pass on the grounds that they don't get your fledgling unit into any more hot water than they may already be in. Most of them went screaming off in cabs to major city centers, you being near DC and Philadelphia. Anderson, Siegel, and Ooishi, however, all decided to stay in town for one reason or another.

After returning to your hotel and changing into civilian clothes, an ancient pair of jeans and your battered, however freshly laundered University of Oregon sweater, you find yourself in the lobby of the hotel.

“Eugh sir, I was positive you were going to toss that thing as soon as we got back stateside.” Ooishi's voice rings from one of the elevator doors. “The holes in that thing are bigger than my head.”

You feign disgust. “Sushi, I will never, ever, willingly throw away the sweater that survived my scholarship. To do so would be to throw away years of blood, sweat, and tears, acting as lubricants to the mighty killing machine you see before you today.”

Ooishi glances at Anderson. “I didn't know the el-tee went to Oregon!”

He chuckles. You glower at her. “Ha-ha, cute joke. What're you doing down here?”

“Waiting for Alexandra. We're going to head to some bookstore. She lost her copy of 'the book of the five rings', and I'd like to look at the new issues of guns n' ammo. Care to join us, sir?”

>[] “I got nothin' better going on today, and a shitpile of back pay. Let's hit it.”

You think for a moment and can't seem to come up with anything better to do.

“Well, not much else I've got going on. Let's go.” You say, shrugging.

“Shit sir, didn't have you pegged for much of a shopper.” Anderson says, shifting to look at the opening elevator doors. Out exits Siegel in her civilian clothes...or at least, what you think her interpretation of civilian clothes are. Her jeans are more trashed than yours, and a faded, cracked, smashed special warfare hoodie covers whatever shirt she may or may not have on.

She isn't even wearing normal shoes, her boots finishing off the ensamble.

Ooishi raises an intuitive eyebrow. “Allie....do you want to go clothes shopping?”

Siegel shrugs. “Maybe, if we have time. Don't really see the point though, not like we'll have time to wear normal clothes once we go back over.”

You had to hand it to the girl, she had a solid point.

Anderson stands, leaving his paper coffee cup empty on the table next to where he was sitting. “Well, shall we? Cab's here.”

“Lead the way, LT.” You reply.

Inside the minivan cab, driven by a man you're positive was part of the Saudi armor force you helped train, Ooishi settles down next to you. “Well sir, where to first? We've pretty much got all day...”

Fixing your seatbelt, you shake your head. “I can't say I much mind anywhere, Sushi. Suppose I can find something that I want or need anywhere we go.”

“The mall first then! If nothing else, we gotta get Allie some new shoes...”

“What's wrong with my boots?”

“..you're joking, right?”

The conversation continues in this vein, with Ooishi explaining the nuances of the correct shoes to Siegel, who doesn't seem to care much. You make some small talk with Anderson, mostly about sports and beers, before pulling into a downtown Baltimore mall. The girls manage to conveniently disappear when the cabbie asks for his fare, which you and Anderson split.

“Huh. Major American metropolitan area, and this is the biggest mall they have?” Anderson asks, sticking a cigarette in his mouth.

You shrug. “I'm not entirely sure one super huge mall is the way that most cities are going anymore. They'll probably go to a whole mess of smaller malls. Gotta fit them into the blocks, you know?”

He takes a quick few pulls from the smoke before tossing it onto the ground. “Yeah. I guess.”

Once you're inside, Ooishi insists that you all go to the nearest shoe store. Unable to sway her, you and Anderson find yourselves sitting on a bench just outside the door while Siegel and Sushi seem to take their dear sweet time picking out shoes.

1/2
>>
>>26533945

“Huh. Seem pretty empty in here to you, sir?” Anderson asks, looking around. And he's right, the mall seems uncharacteristically empty at this time of day.

“Actually, yes. But fuck it, it's a Saturday morning. Everyone who isn't working here is probably sleeping in.” You reply, leaning back against the slats of the bench.

More time passes, and after getting a few sideways looks from both university of Maryland and Maryland university students, the girls step out, three shoe boxes a piece, but you can't help notice that Siegel hasn't changed out of her boots.

“Well THAT was fun.” Ooishi mutters, setting her bags down. “Girl has no sense of color matching, I swear.”

You look over to see Siegel's bags in Anderson's hands, who doesn't seem even remotely thrilled at having to carry them.

Ooishi looks at you almost expectedly.

You sigh, making sure that everyone around you can hear it, before standing up and walking over to Sushi and her bags. She smiles at you, showing that she hasn't fully realized exactly what you're going to be doing here in the next few seconds.

While you've surely suffered some muscle and strength loss since you've really got into the war, you have absolutely no doubt that lifting a fifteen year old witch and her three pairs of shoes is something that you can do with one arm, leaving the second to counteract whatever flailing she does.

You loosely close your hand around the bag, before both lunging and wrapping your entire arm around her tiny waist. The nearest thing you can equate the sound to is a tiny squeak before you've hoisted the Marine onto your shoulder. Almost immediately she's squirming to get out of your grip, but you'd prepared for this.

Anderson and Siegel only look on as you, carrying a flailing witch, grin and ask where you're off to next.

“Captain! If you don't put me down right now I'll...I'll....I'LL DO SOMETHING!”

“Oh, sure. Real threatening.”

“SOMETHING BAD!”

“Yep.”

“CAPTAIN!”

“Uh...sir...” Anderson interjects, pointing just over your shoulder. Behind you, a pair of men look on with interest.

[] “Well, I've had my fun. Are we off?”
[] “Pfft. Fuck them. Let's go.”

You blow a raspberry over your shoulder.

“Fuuuuck them. We're off.”

Just as you start to walk away, there's a slight scuffling behind you before you hear an unfamiliar voice start asking you questions. Sushi, still squirming, manages to wriggle out of your grip just enough to knock you off balance to the point where you spin on the ball of your foot, catching her just in time.

Though, now you're facing the two men, who are rapidly advancing towards you.

“Hey, Anderson?” You ask, watching them approach.

“I'm having no part of this, Cap.”

“No, I might need an extra set of hands.” You say, slowly setting Ooishi down.

You can almost feel him turn around, hearing Siegel's bags hit the ground.

It's not long after that the the men are within talking distance, where they calmly ask you what you're doing. Anderson speaks before you can.

“Is it your problem?”

“Actually, yes, it is. Baltimore PD. Once again, what exactly is going on here?”

Anderson turns to look at you. “Well sir?”

The two officers scrutinize his ID for a few moments before handing it back, then ask for yours. After handing yours back, they quickly mention that it's probably not a good idea to be causing this much of a commotion. You cock an eyebrow, but ultimately don't question it.

“Well, that was fun. How about we have a nice, boring shopping trip now, sir?” Anderson asks, picking up Siegel's bags.

“Yeah, that's probably a good idea.” You say, picking up Sushi's shoes.

You wander the mall for at least another two hours, slowly being laden with shopping bags from different stores. Clothes seem to be the order of the day, with either girl picking up an entirely new wardrobe. That backpay did really seem to accumulate quickly.

For yourself, you manage to snag a fitted Oregon baseball cap as well as a few watch batteries for your battered G-Shock. If nothing else, you can deal them like gold to other companies. The military never, ever seems to have watch batteries handy.

After a short lunch at a run down (but delicious) burger joint, you find yourself in another cab headed to a relatively well thought of bookstore. Inside, which seems a lot larger than you would've thought, you're immediately assaulted by the smell of old books, of which the shelves are absolutely stuffed.

Siegel instantly breaks off and heads to the philosophy section, Sushi breaks for the periodicals, and Anderson beelines for the sports/fitness/martial arts/noody magazines.

Before long, you find yourself in the fiction section, having looked through the nonfiction and history section. You picked a few memoirs of the Martian war, including one of a M10 tank destroyer crew, and one of the rather impromptu but inspiring captain of the USS California.

Soon thereafter, you're in the fiction section, looking at the alternative history. One of them, a retelling of the American civil war, tells of a world with no witches or magic. Hard to believe, sure, but then, it is fiction. Half of the fun of reading it is suspending your disbelief.

Moments after checking out, Ooishi, with a stack of magazines in her arms, joins you.

“Don't worry sir, I won't make you lug these around too.” She smiles.

“Oh, thanks. I'm already loaded down pretty bad. Can't help but wonder what Anderson is gonna look like under his sixteen metric tons of whatever Siegel is getting.”

She chuckles, then sighs after looking at her receipts. “Welp, that's about it for my backpay.”

“Yeah, I'd imagine so.” You reply, shifting her many, many bags around in your hands.

“Oh well. Worth it for when this is all over!”

Not too long after, Anderson and Siegel rejoin you, both straining to carry the weight of their books. Anderson especially, buried under the sum weight of his books, her clothes, and another little bit of her books.

The cab ride back to the hotel helps to siphon off some of your own money, but you're still sitting pretty well off. A few months of not being able to spend your cash at all makes it seem like the most money you've ever seen in your account, having checked the ATM at the end of the day.

>>26536789

After dropping off both Ooishi and Siegel, you and Anderson make your way up to the suite. Inside, Nicky and Michael are watching TV, sipping beer and picking at room service.

“Oh! Evenin' cap. We uh...we woulda got something for you..but we didn't know if you'd be back so soon.” Nicky says, jumping onto his feet.

“Bah, no worries. We ate on the way back.”

“Oh, good. Oh, hey sir, there's a message for you on your nightstand.”

You cock an eyebrow as you go into the bedroom, dropping your bags near your duffel. The message is short and to the point.

CPT,
ROCKFIELD MOSTLY OK.
DRUGGED UP.
MISSES ARSOF.
CALL WRGH – NEUROLOGY SHOP – COL WELLER
-NICK

Immediately, you're at the phone, dialing the number to Walter Reed. You're quickly connected to the Neurology shop, where you're informed that Colonel Weller had gone home for the night, but that if you hurried, you might get to see Rockfield tonight, though it's not advised.

As much as we might want to see her now, she's drugged up as all hell. It would be hard on her for us to do that. Just take comfort in knowing she's mostly fine, and wait until tomorrow.

You're already most of the way back into your boots when you decide against going to visit. By the time you'd get there, the visiting hours would be five minutes from ending, and there's no way they'd let you stay in after hours.

You phone the hospital back, making sure that the desk jockey writes and leaves a note for top that you'd come visit the next day, as soon as you could, and you'd bring all the boys and girls you could stuff in a cab. He assured you that it was on her night stand, on threat of his life, and wished you a good night.

Not much on TV and being worn out from your day's events, you find yourself drifting to sleep on the couch slowly but surely. As you get up to head into your room, you can't help but to stop and think about your dead and wounded troopers.

Oh, the reds will pay for that.
They'll pay in more blood than has ever been shed in history.

A grin spreads across your face thinking about what Booze Hound mk. II is going to do to the unexpecting soviets. A malicious one.
