You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

You have cried havoc and let loose the dogs of war...or have made this a day of infamy...or awakened the sleeping giants...or pick whatever significantly pithy war saying you want to apply to this day. Either way, the war between the Fey Court/United Free Kingdoms/City-State of White Tree and the Phoenix Empire will hinge upon this day.

Either the Empire will be crippled and the armies that it forced to serve them will be freed, or the city of White Tree will be sacked and burned.

(Or, a very unpleasant thought pops up in your mind as you suit up in armor, which includes a helmet, is that all of your plans could fail. Then the Empire would march on White Tree and First Wood, seize Citadel, and after that...no. No you can't let yourself think like that.)

The plan is pretty basic, using Fell Weed smoke, you'll be able to lure the majority of the Empire's ettin troops, the two headed 12ft tall creatures, towards White Tree. The smoke is a natural and cultural lure/aggravation stimulant, the ettin won't be able to resist.

This will cause several other fronts to collapse. Allowing the Fey Court elves, along with orc support, to advance and to do a little sabotage of their own. Hopefully they'll be able to corrupt the indoctrination the Empire uses on their human slaves, turning them against their masters.

If all goes well, the empire will lose the entire eastern and southern fronts, two whole armies, and retreat.
>>
>>26566723
The down side is that, while the orcs, and Fey Court, are doing that, White Tree will be assaulted by 100 ettins, give or take, along with human slave support.

Just you, the Dawnchasers, the Paladins, a few UFK mixed-squads, and the White Tree Defense Force; who vary from white haired men on the wall manning the blackpowder cannons, to the standard trained and skilled longbow or sword-and-shield soldiers, and ending with the far too young Blessed Troopers, with their experimental Shock Packs, and Flame Lances.

20 ettins are enough to scatter an entire battalion. You're staring down a force of five times that.

The war won't end today, and this battle will hardly be the last, but if you live to see history books made of this war, this battle will be the one that gets its own special chapter.

Tricia enters your tent. She's suited up in a bit heavier armor than she normally wears.

"Hey." She says. Giving your shoulder a soft squeeze. "So...I was thinking I would be hanging in the back, Trying to use my friends as healing support? Spread my special pollen around in this cloud, maybe try and keep the Blessed from getting too badly hurt."

She looks at the map. "So, Julian and Kincaid are in the van, huh? Is...is that where you're going to be?" She says. "Toll and Balles are on the flank...and Avery's on the Wall with the Blackpowder Crews." She sighs. "I miss the days when it was just us in a room, trapped with just one or two monsters that wanted to rip our heads off."
>>
Oh shit the lamia quest

"Yeah, I'll probably be in the vanguard. I'm the only one even close to the size of an ettin after all, and a paladin to boot. Things really were just so much easier when we could go around the horde and kill the thing controlling it, weren't they? And yeah- I'd appreciate it if you hung back, we'll need as many healers as we can get out there. It's going to be a nasty battle."
>>
>>26566852
anyway, this guy here, have we got much of a strategy yet? Can I get a report of how many spears and how much gunpowder this place has? For spearing and trapping, respectively. Also, I assume no fell weed is burning yet, because we're not sick yet.

Well, since other folk aren't here yet, another question. How much poison can we produce? Enough to give the archers a good volley? A bunch of paralyzed or melty giants would be wonderful at tripping the others up. I mean these things are huge. Sage for samefaggotry.

Actually, could we find a use for Cloudkill here?
>>
>>26567122
We'll be spitting for sure, but I want a means of widespread venom use. We're only one person after all.

Also I just had a realization: Terry and Tammy, the two slaves we rescued are in this city somewhere. I really hope not in the military. They especially don't deserve this shit after their extended stay in the north.
>>
"Yeah, I'll probably be in the vanguard. I'm the only one even close to the size of an ettin after all, and a paladin to boot. And yeah- I'd appreciate it if you hung back, we'll need as many healers as we can get out there. It's going to be a nasty battle." You say.

She kisses you on the cheek. "Take care. May you not die, and all of that." She looks at the map again.

The Paladin's plan is a pretty simple one. Ettin horde advances, army holds line, signal is given after a point, secondary force flanks into the horde, pincer attack, and done. It's Avery's work. Very simple, very easy, no overly complicated plans or heavy reliance on any one force.

Balles and Toll are on hand to gauge the timing and position of the flanking attack. So you know that they won't screw it up.

Kincaid and Julian are crazed fighters and know how to take and give hits.

Also Avery can be on the wall and shoot up communication flares if he needs to adjust.

It looks fairly cut and dried. The random elements in this plan have been acknowledged and minimized as best they could be. It's a good plan.

But for some reason it just gives you a bad feeling. Maybe it's paranoia, or your leviathan brain desperately trying to complicate things for the sheer sake of complexity...or maybe it isn't.
>>
>>26567131
maybe, if we gave everyone the instruction to fall back away from us when we pop a certain type of flare.
I think a yellow, green, or black flare. Whatever screams "poison" the most.
>>
>>26567158
Maybe we could spit it into bottles and give one to each of the Paladins?
>>
>>26567151
>gives you a bad feeling
I have identified the bad feeling. Ettins are HUGE and we have no spearmen. I suggest planting explosives ahead of our lines that the ettins will have to walk through, and then lighting them with marksman fire.
>>
>>26567161
Might not be good idea in case one of them forgets what it was. Cloudkill is only visible to us and maybe other lamia

Too unwieldy, gotta be careful with gaseous poison. Also, it'd require three seperate bottles to be thrown accurately.

Give tricia a bit of a hug while you look at the map
"It's times like this I can't help but think of all the extra little things I need to do to make this go better. Check for kingfisher spies, dig ankle-breaks for the ettins, set gunpowder kegs to shoot when the enemy force overtakes them, commission spears for those swordsmen... Think we have time to do any of that?"

Also I'm not sure about cloudkill you guys. It's a low-lying gas. It might not reach up to ettin breathing height.

>Ettins are HUGE and we have no spearmen. I suggest planting explosives ahead of our lines that the ettins will have to walk through, and then lighting them with marksman fire.

Okay, good news, bad news, and a few rolls.

The good news is that, the WTDF, and your Mixed-Ranks aren't stupid, you have spears.

The bad news is that there aren't that many people trained in spears, effectively. Your own personal style is something unique to Lamia/Naga, so you can't give an effective crash course to people, because they don't have the same kind of flexible spine that you have.

There's enough spears, but only about 2 out of every 5 soldiers you have, combined, would be any use with the things in the heat of battle. Avery has soundly gone with a 75-25 split of those forces with the majority being in the frontal army.

As for the explosives, and something else. Roll 2d20.

Also, stupid citadel training forces wrong. Don't you know we need many many spearmen? I wonder if we can have untrained guys brace for a charge, drop their ettin impaled spears, and move on to swords.
>>
>>26567151
The problem is that we're banking on a smart plan going well. We've got enemies that can do that better then us.

We need to be VERY careful about what we do next. Remember what the first lightbringer thought about their invincibility.
>>
>>26567333
But we hardly have claimed invincibility. Unless we were drunk. In which case we totally claimed that, and that we could eat the sun.

I agree with you on the smart plan and being careful points though. This plan needs more trenches full of pitch that ettins fall into and burn in and hit-and-run lightning guys on horses.

>>
>>26567373
Let's do the morningstar a few times, sure, but don't forget that when we keep it idling at a full 5 charges we LITERALLY glow with the power of the light.

After a beacon discharge or two, we should save a 5count beacon and go to town with claws, being some kind of bloody holy snake tornado.
>>
>>26567405
We broke a claw a few days ago, I'm not sure if it's healed or not
>>
>>26567430
oh shit you're right, that was just a few days ago. Beacon never breaks on us, good spear. We should take it to the forge one of these days, get it sharpened and... whatever maintenance you do with a spear-y type thing.
>>
>>26567324
You've dug ankle-breaks and a pit fall or two, but White Tree is unwilling to give you much in the way of their blackpowder. They're keeping it mostly for the cannons and riflemen on the wall.

A little bit of good news though, Sophie's shown up with five of her spell-shooters in their fancy hats.

"I know it isn't much." She says. (A regular spell-shooter contingent is 10, with grunt support.) "But, well...you guys need the help it sounds like...also..." She looks at Mage who is talking to Kincaid and she sighs and looks away. "Anyway, would you like us on the wall, in the van, or on the flank?"
>>
>>26567474
"Sophie! You don't know how glad I am for the help.
I think I'd like you on the wall, if you can fire from there. I'm not sure of the range you have on those things, I've never seen 'em in action, but light knows we could use some fireballs raining down on our foes. If for nothing else than effect."

Question. How close will we be to the fell weed in the vanguard?
>>
>>26567474
..... oh geez, Sophie. Do not get yourself killed over a boy. No matter how awesome. Poor woman's clearly got it bad.

The spell-shooters are going to be most effective in the flank, I think. Maximum distribution of area-effect destruction across the less defended portions of their army without making them too vulnerable to counter-attack or too far back to effectively hit the enemy rear ranks.
>>
Rolled 9

It would depend how accurate the spellshoters are. If they can act as snipers they'd be better on the walls, but otherwise they should go with crossbowmen.

I think.

"Fire's a bit out of range, but we can hit them with lighting and Eli can do blindness spells."

"Wait, how much shadow? Over how wide a range? I wonder if I could see in it." You say.

Eli shrugs. "At that range...I think I can try and crack out two, maybe three, people before I have to recharge and reload. It helps that they're such big targets. If you want me to do wide range I need to be closer, but I can play bodyguard if need be." She tilts her head towards Sophie and whispers. "It's not a secret who's going to be getting his own guardian angel.

"But if you like me, and the other four girls can keep the heat off of the Paladins, or any other specific person, or squad that you want."

Just so you know, there's six squads of Blessed. But you're not totally sure which one Denise is in.

"Ssen." Mari comes up to you. "There's a problem. The Blessed and the Regulars are having...problems...with the Mixed Units. They want to not have to fight with them. The Ehite Tree Brassholes are suggesting that all the Mixed be in the Flank and tat the Regular and the Blessed be in the van."

"Do they have the numbers?" Tricia asks as you and she follow Peri/Mari.

"Yeah, but the Mixed have minotaurs and lizard folk in them." Mari says. "They can take a couple of hits."

You see Julian and Kincaid arguing with Billings and a few unpleasantly scarred and battleworn men in white/black armor.

"Billings is trying to side with Julian and Kincaid, but you know the 'High Father' and how he reacts when his people want him to agree with them." Mari says.

"They have no place on the battlefield at ALL!" Julian shouts. "They should be on the walls."

"The Blessed have every right to defend their homes." One of the Regular commanders says. "More so than anyone else, also they are the one who know how to use their sacred weaponry. The Free-Thinking Beas-"

"Do NOT use that word again, Stafford." Kincaid snaps.

"I will speak as I see it." Commander Stafford says. "The Free-Thinking Beasts can aid us in the assault, but I will NOT have my Blessed be dependent on their presence! If a UFK sees a Blessed or one of their own kind about to die, who will it choose? They WILL protect their own, and I will not allow ANY factor that could cause my Blessed's deaths in this. The Regulars would give their lives a hundred times over for the Blessed. They stay THERE."

If it makes any difference, I agree with julian that the blessed should be as far back as possible- they're quite young. That, and their swords seem unwieldy to fight with, but just fine to shoot with."
>>
>>26568011
"So you're going to throw the relatively squishy Blessed into the van rather than the beefy minotaurs and lizardmen who can take a few hits? Thats SUICIDE, Commander, and you know it! If you want them on the field stick them in the flank, but the Blessed would be much more use on the Wall, where they can use their range advantage to the maximum. Honestly, if you're so protective of the Blessed I'd have thought you'd let the 'free thinking beasts' take the hard hits for them."
>>
>>26568011
"Would you call me a beast to my face Commander, or are you merely content to call others beasts behind their backs? The mixed units are far more effective in the vanguard and it would be better for everyone involved if the Blessed focused on their ranged capabilities instead of being crushed between two armies.

There's four Black-White Commanders. One of them, thankfully was already on Julian's side, but he's obviously the youngest one, and is just a bit of a Paladin groupie. You can see him nodding along with Julian's words.

Your speech has swayed the female commander.

Vivan's father and the Female Commander both look at each other startled. Ah, now you know who REALLY wasn't in favor of it.

You stretch yourself up until your'e looming over the man, fangs bared. The other commanders all take a step back.

"Commander Stafford! I will not sit idly by while you throw this fine city, and all the soldiers and citizens within it, under a speeding wagon! I will not see this battle lost simply because you cannot do anything else other than satisfy your own hubris, commander. Do you know what happens to the forces of leaders who bludgeon their way through strategy? They die, Stafford, because their commanders don't recognize a suicidal plan when they see it. Because they want all the glory to themselves or to their force. Are you that willing to kill hundreds of your own people just to make a point?

"I don't care what you think of me or others like me but I'll throw my mantle and circlet into the ocean before I allow a massacre of the cities youth."

You snap.

"But, I'm being rash." You sneer. "Please, tell us your great plan."

Stafford sneers at you and then looks at Julian. His eyes narrow and he looks at Billings.

Billings looks at the other Commanders, who are trying to make it clear that they are NOT standing by Stafford.

"Commander Stafford, the Paladins are the instruments of His Light and His Will. They wouldn't dare give us a plan or a path that would result in death for our most cherished, our most blessed." He says. "We will go as commanded by Lord Paladin Graves."

Stafford shakes his head and looks at Julian. "When you train it to speak again, fix its breath, it reeks of death and dead animal."

He storms off.

"Oh...I am NOT done with that fucker." Kincaid says. He takes a deep breath and raises an eyebrow at Julian.

Julian shakes his head at Kincaid. "No."

He sighs and trows up his hands. "I have to go check the fires and make sure they're ready." He walks off.

Julian orders the other three commanders to follow him as they start setting up lines.

Vivian's father comes up to you. He has a weary/bewildered look on his face. That's a look you've come to recognize of a man who 's realized that the only one who's suited for the job is himself...and that he's WAY over his head.

"I...umm..." He says. "I wish you luck, your ladyship. Also...do...are you required to be in the vanguard? I know a lot of the Blessed would draw much inspiration and strength to see you, and your occuli, aiding them." He licks his lips, nervous. "Word has spread at how they have never fallen in battle and have never allowed others under their shadow come to harm. I...uhhh...I can assure you that there would be many who would be very grateful and filled with cheer and spirit to know that the blessed are protected by the Paladin Serpent."

You've heard worse bribes. But not many...although you've rarely heard one done for a decent reason like this.

It's really up in the air depending on how well Ryan's stuff takes. And the exact nature of it. And whether or not we'll be able to come up with a neutral freedom-book that winds them down from book-device use.
>>
>>26571376
I figure when we take it over we don't make to many changes, and what we do change we keep to stuff that the masses will like. use economic incentives to encourage allot of contact with other cities and just let the culture change over a generation or two.

We're gonna be fighting Ettin and morningstarring.

I mean really, what else can we do? We're a figure of inspiration, we're supposed to be in the thick of the fighting doing things which look inspiring. I guess we could try to hamstring a few Ettin, but when we have enough reach to go straight for the throat, I don't see that much point.
>>

He cannot conceive that you would be willing to help the Phoenix Colony gain independence, and then just let them be. He's brilliant, but he's fallen for the grand fallacy. He believes that people view the world in the same way he does, or how he imagines that they do.

- - -
You give out a few orders, make sure that your people are where they can help the most, send off a few bird mesages, and do a headache inducing whisperflute conversation with Jesse-May.

Then the Fell Weed fires are lit.

The scheduled attack was going to happen at dawn, a good luck sign for the Phoenix (and His Light if you ask Lea.) For the fires to have any effect, you had to light them in the middle of the afternoon. Ugh, you despise that smell. It makes you nauseous and the smell reminds you of rotten meat and vomit.

Standing upwind, you beathe into your mouth for a moment...damn, that asshole was right about your breath. Well, unlike him, some people don't have the advantage of a diet that allows sweet smelling things...but you take comfort at the fact that your teeth aren't missing and/or brown like his. Well, I'm no biologist, but seeing as we lay eggs, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't have a navel.

"Probably, he got all worried when I went after boar, a war would just make his hair fall out. I like to think he'd be proud of me, though. We've done a lot for the peoples of our fair nation.

"Still, I do wish Dad was here. Heh, did you know I went out to distract myself from his death?"

"Heh, well I hope you succeeded a little." Julian says.

"In my dreams he keeps telling me 'this isn't the hard part' over and over." You say.

"He used to say that." Julian says. "Never really understood what he meant by that, we had certainly seen enough difficulty. Every time that we seemed to be heading into death itself, he'd always say that 'This wasn't the hard part.' I thought for a moment that he thought that the Hard Part would be raising you...or any child. But no, he just smiled and said that it was difficult, but not the hard part."

You hear the roar and scream and you see the horde. They really are blue. You suppose that in a certain bright desert light you could call it a very pale grey, but in the light of dusk, they're pretty clearly blue.

"Don't die, little girl." Julian says. "I don't want Liam kicking my ass."

speaking of our biology, I figured out why we have spines and why they're arranged outwards so they can't help with constriction.

They're so we can't get eaten by giant predators. Just coil up in a spike ball.

They let us cut up whatever we're constricting, as well as deliver venom. Helps with more unruly prey i suppose

>>26572307
Alright, this is how the war works.

As of now, the Phoenix Empire forces are at a score of 500.

You have 300, now. With 200 waiting in the flank.

Things are pretty even as they are right now. Naturally, that's going to change when things go to hell.

You'll get three options every turn. Each option will cause a roll, and that roll will determine how much each side has their numbers drop...among other things.

As of now, once the PE army (or you) reaches half strength, the flank will attack. That's the plan.

So when our strength = 150 or theirs = 250, the flank goes.

DS(us)=150

DS(them)=250

150/250=15/25=3/5

We need to kill more than 5 points of troops and lose less than 3 on average every turn, or multiples thereof, to be winning.

This assumes that when the flank occurs the greater strength army will win. It's likely more complicated than that.

But seriously though I'm nervous as hell about this battle, we're going to lose a lot of dudes. Giants and by extension ettins are NOT something you can fuck around with. I think the blue means they're angry, like hulk rules.
>>
Oh and you'll be shooting for 14+ every time.

>>26572615
The ettin are charging...but they're not headed towards the sinkholes and ankle breaks. You miscalculated where to set up the damn traps.

1) Hold position and engage them anyway, you've got the forces all dug in properly here. 10/5 Success, 5/5 failure. (2 crits make it a 0 losses, depending on the side)

2)Try to lure the bastards over to the trapped area by breaking rank. Risky, but the chaos you'll cause will be very much worth it. 15/5 success, 5/10 failure.

3) Charge the fuckers. Risky as hell, but you'll get full control of the terrain if you're the ones directing the charge. 20/5 success. 5/20 failure.

(So if you chose option B and succeeded, you'd be at 295, and the PE would be at 485)

>>
>>26572905
I'd prefer to lure them over, I think, but I am unsure of what breaking ranks means in this instance.

I am going to assume the lure option is a faux charge to draw them in/get their attention, then fleeing back to the fortified lines. Which I am going for, option B.

You see Julian and you both head for fresher air.

>>26574420
Alright, now...remember that 19?

It's a bloody slog, you give as good as you get, but you get a LOT. Small cuts and wounds everywhere, and you think all in all you've maybe dropped 5 ettin, with help, and who know how many servants...ugh.

This is bad. The line's been forced back enough that the Blessed are going to come into combat now, there's noth...wait...that's not ettin roars.

They move with no grace, their weapons have no style, and they are male or female, pretty uniformly ugly...

but that big group of orcs charging at the ettin, with Garkat at the front, have to be one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen in your lives.

Now you just have to decide what to DO with them.

+50 Points to you.

1) Send the orcs to smash into the Ettin right fucking now. 20/5 or 20/10

2) Order for the orcs to sweep around and attack the ettin from the rear, it's not a proper pincer move, as your numbers are too few, but it'll scramble the bastards if done right. The down side is that you'll have to break off from Julian's group to hold them...but that's only bad if this plan doesn't work. S:40/5, F:30/10+Roll for Julian

3)The riskiest move of them all, fall back and regroup...with the Blessed. S:50/10, F:50/20. (Blessed casualties will begin)

4)Send the Orcs to back up the Blessed. You and Julian can handle the machine...hopefully. S:10/5 F:5/5, Blessed get 1 more round of security.

Garkat nods and the orcs sweep along the battlefield and you and Julian hold the ettin's attention.

Again, you rue the fact that you just can't see the faces of the soldiers or the ettins in the rear when the orc squad hits them like a pile of squat, heavily muscled, always grumpy, bricks.

You HEAR it though, and the sounds are SO very sweet.

And Beacon is shining and ready. Yes, yes, yes!

Wait...what? OH NO!

You don't know why you looked, maybe it was because she is part of your horde, or that Beacon was trying to show you the truth as well...whatever it is you looked and saw way back, along the wall...

Fucking Stafford and a few of his Regulars are trying to enact a 'battlefield accident' with Avery. Thankfully Avery and Peri/Mari are fighting them. There's just a couple, but Stafford looked like he'd been in more than a few dozen fights. Odds are okay for them...but...still...

Well...you could use the Morning Star (50) or you can shoot an Enlightenment Beam at the group, you don't even need to hit, just get people to LOOK and see what's going on at that end of the battlefield.

It'll ruin Stafford and his plans forever, and guarantee no blowback. Plus people will stop Stafford and help Peri and Avery. Also 10/5 from regular fighting.

But you'll lose your shot with Morningstar for now. The next time it's ready, odds are that the Blessed will be fighting before the flank can pull them out.
>>

It gets the same job done and then some if we could just get over thinking we're the only ones here who can do shit.

You swear and point Beacon at Stafford's general area and fire.

Enough people turn to look to see Stafford and a few of the Regulars actually attacking a Paladin and an occuli.

The poems and stories of this bit get a little flowery at this part. They SAY that you blasted him to ash in His Light's sight, or that you blew a hole through his chest and vaporized his wicked heart.

Truth is you just winged the bastard, caused a lot of massive burns on his arm and caused him to lose his sword. Peri was the one who actually gutted him, and Avery smashed his head into a pulp with his hammer. Less poetry and more utilitarian gore, but...eh...it'll do.

You see Mixed and Blesseds coming to their aide as well, so you don't have to worry about the rest of Stafford's flunkies.

Back to keeping your own ass alive.

Alright, you're going to have to make a call. If you hold the battle lines here, or let them fall back a bit. The orcs are helping from the rear, so they're slowing down the advance, but...

1) Fall back and regroup the lines. You'll have more people BUT the Blessed will be in combat. 30/5, 30/10

2) Hold the line here, but spread out a bit, you'll detach from Julian's squad again though. 30/5, 30/5+Roll For Julian

3) Call the Flank early. +200. No PE, but the Blessed get pushed back.

4) Flare signal for Mage and Tricia to leave the Blessed and bring up their own squads of Mixed into the fray. A decent move, but it means a lot more of the regulars will be put into the grinder as you wait for the backup. 30/10, 30/15

You can now signal the Spell-Shooters whenever you want. They're worth 20 PE now and that number will go up the further you hold off.
>>
>>26575684
Yes, but people will SEE him being a backstabber before he goes down. Right now everyone is looking at the fight. Otherwise Mari/Peri kills him and then has to explain why she stabbed the commander to death.
>>
2) Hold the line here, but spread out a bit, you'll detach from Julian's squad again though. 30/5, 30/5+Roll For Julian

>>
>>26575703
This is a battle of attrition. The longer we can hold them without getting the other units involved, the better. Let's hold the line for now, and then send in fresh units.
>>
>>26575703
Question: Are the blessed firing?

I don't want a bunch of soldiers doing nothing, I expect them to be firing while we hold the line away from them.

It means the spell shooters are our wave motion gun. The longer we hold off, the more PE troops they vaporize in the instant we -do- call them in. So we could wait till the PE is down to like ~80 and wipe them in an instant.
>>
>>26575793
It means that they'll add 20 more PE casualties if we use them now, and the longer we hold off on using them the more casualties they'll cause.

Basically, they're a force multiplier.

>>26575735
Kind of a big deal. Makes the difference in my mind between 1 and 2.

The slaves are freaking out...and not because of you! You think it's weird that they're still fighting, but you spot it instantly and realize what's going on. If the slaves are attacked, they'll snap out of their 'gazing into space' deal and defend themselves and fight. If you retreat and leave them alone...which you can do on enough fronts so you can hold the line and join up with Julian again...they just stop in the middle of battle and stare into space.

-50 PE as you direct your forces pull back and let the human slaves stare and drool in peace.

So, PE is at 299 now.

Actually Sophie's squad is at 35.

Anyway, you can continue to hold the line. It's much easier now that you don't have as many humans to fight.

1) Continue to hold the line 30/5, 20/10

2) Spread out, a bit riskier with Julian, but you'll get better control of the field. 40/5, 30/10+Julian rolls

3)Call the flank +200, No PE...yet.

4) Merge with the Blessed 50/5* 50/10*

5) Call Dawnchasers 40/10, 30/10

You continue to hold the line, and you find yourself laughing. The ettin are dying the Blessed are not and you are COVERED in blood. What's not to like?!

- -MEANWHILE- -
"KINGFISHER! KINGFISHER!" A Heron barges into the tent where the damnable spymaster and his murderous flock have been dwelling.

He stops when he sees a figure sitting with his back to him at a table, tea set steaming.

"What in the game of the Great Phoenix is HAPPENING?!" He snaps. "Our Grand Flock Leader of the Heron is missing, the ettin are marching the WRONG WAY, there are elves EVERYWHERE in our advance camps, and now all of our slaves are acting strange. What is going on? What happened to your fool proo-"

His voice pauses in mid-reach as he puts his hand on the wooden dummy that was propped up in the chair. Not out of surprise mind you, but because he cannot speak at all.

Sideways' first dagger ensure that her victims don't scream. The second makes them unable to move.

Master had called it perfectly, arranged it as well, the Heron they sent was the same height, weight, and close enough age to Kingfisher. She forced the tea known to the nobility as 'Honor's Keeper' down his throat. Personally, she would have rather the bastard burn to death, as she set the tent on fire, via a 'knocked over' lantern. However, finding the tea was important, all of it was.

Still, it was a little unnerving to see that shocked look on Master's face when he smelled the Fell Weed on the air. He recovered quickly enough, save a few curses to the Damned Serpent.

She had to hurry to Citadel. The others would not wait for her long.

He saw their Works, their weapons and creations, and was gladdened by His Children's cleverness. (Later editions will be slightly edited by you, Lea, or the Nitors to have His Light also be saddened by the Flame Lance and Lightning Pack's uses for war...but the first edition was written by Tammy who was watching the whole thing from the wall...so she just wanted them dead, and wasn't remunerating on the horror of war.)

His Light and His Fire leapt from their hands, and with cracks that could split the heavens the Beautiful Spell-Shooters, capes fluttering in His Wind, His Light guiding their eyes under their wonderful hats...and Lord Paladin Julian Graves swung his sword in a arc of the most blinding Glory to His Works...and that was when we all knew that we were His Chosen. Beast, Human, Elf, or Dwarf, all were beloved in His Light. For had He not smote the Betrayer among them? As opposed to pulling shit that will later be remembered as calling a direct divine intervention? After smashing apart a third of the remaining force at one go?

Kincaid's a grown-ass man. He can take care of himself, or he's dead. But the entire point of this was to draw attention away so NewRobin can do her work, and so that we can get the Idol. So let's go ahead and DO that, yeah?

It has an ettin face on in, and you think that the ettin is supposed to be cured up in a ball or in repose or bent in a circle....something like that. Whatever it is there's a red painted out-streched-wings bird shape on it in the center.

"So...you need that thing in one piece, right?" Kincaid says. "Alright. You want to have fun, or can I jump back in?" He grins at you. "Come on kiddo, I promise not to hurt your toy."

"Lets be a dragon Kincaid, it will help me try not to eat you." You say.

He looks at you for a moment. Then he shrugs. "Sure, I've done stranger under odder conditions."

The ettin see a blood covered creature, fangs bared, screaming bloody murder, spear in hand, while giant wings of flames flap out from her sides.

Yeah, I don't care WHAT species you are or HOW devote you are or HOW sacred your slightly-adjusted mind believes that your sacred rock is. You fucking run when THAT kind of nightmare charges up at you.

They run and...pfft...like you care...you're You're too busy laughing and licking the blood off of your arms. Sticky hands are a pain and get dirty. Ohh, the rock is lovely and warm.

"Lady Patrick." Kincaid says in a very calm and patient voice. "I need you to slither away from the rock for a moment. Maybe you want to go get your brother who's with the brats? Or kill more ettin?" He crouches down by the big boulder and looks at it. Or tries to through your scales.

He takes out a small pair of spectacles and pokes it with his gauntlets.

"Well...your hunch was right. This thing is covered in magic, and...this wax stuff that...ugh...reeks." He says.

No. Nope nope nope. You liiiiike that smell. It makes you remember good times, like when you eat, or kill, or babble.

You love it when you babble.

Kincaid frowns as he taps you on the head. "Ssen, I'm very glad you and miss Tricia are very much in love, but you could not wrap yourself around the very IMPORTANT magic rock and giggle and sing about your sexual activities with the Wasp Witch? Go! Go kill something! Not me!"

"Fine. There will be more rocks." You say as you leave him alone with the rock. You pause and leer at him, blood on your face. "NO embarrassing stories."

"I fucked a tree stump once because I thought it looked was my second wife, while my husband at the time watched, and I was dead sober." Kincaid says, not looking up from the rock. "Now THAT'S an embarrassing story, this is just druggy junk."

You chase after the ettin. It looks like they went back to rejoin their fellows.

The battle's been going quite well. The ettin look like they're going to fight to the last, and the slaves have...run off it seems, mud trails show them heading back to PE lines.

Either way, the battle's still been happening and people are still dying on your side as the ettin refuse to just die.

You should fix that.

Score:
You:285
PE:90

1)Regroup with the orcs is the quickest. 30/5 30/10

2) Regroup with Julian and the Regulars would take a little doing but would cause a lot more death via co-ordination. 40/10 30/10

3) If you can reach Lea, well...you know how much damage you two can do when teamed up, You rip little cuts open and she pulls out the prizes inside. 50/10, 30/20

Either way, this battle is ending soon.

At this point there's only a couple of ettin left. If they broke, if they tried to run, or surrender, or if they fought to the last, is something that is unknown to history, and to those that were there.

You just know that when You and Jullian pulled your weapons from one ettin that you were fighting together, the roars weren't of the monsters, they were of the victorious army that was behind you.

Maybe that's it." He looks around at the dead, both yours and theirs. "I wonder if they'll resent them? The Blessed will forever live with knowing that these people now died for them, and now that makes them and their sins untouchable." He shrugs. "Forgive me, little one." He sighs. "I navel gaze when I get tired. We have work at hand." He nods at Mage and Tricia running up towards you.

Well, seeing as how Avery smashed their heads in with his big ass hammer...probably not very hard.

Of course Billings and HIS are taking all the credit/giving it all to His Light. They're annoyingly teflon to shit like this, and since they tell the people what they wish to hear, they are thought wise.

Maybe at a fancy dinner Isen will just get drunk punch Billings in the face, and declare war and kill them both then and there.

Which is why Tara doesn't let his majesty drink at fancy parties...or at least keeps within grab reach of his belt.
