You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Having returned to your pirate wolf pack after an unknown ship pursued you from a forbidden imperial system, you have spent the vast majority of your limited wealth to acquire a replacement engine for the small mining barge you escaped with. Despite being unable to barter Crazy Haaazin down on the engine price, you have managed to acquire two slightly used groxen with your purchase. Unfortunately, the pair of groxen have been castrated, but they'll still provide a modest bit of meat or possibly sell for... you'd rather not think how little they'll sell for, really. Thankfully, Signor Ferrari was more than happy to have his percentage rounded down to an even 5 million thrones of silver bars, so you didn't quite pay as much as you should.

As you ride to orbit and await crazy Haaazin's delivery of the bulky engines to orbit aboard his orbital lifter. Advinessa and her crew have already begun removing the destroyed engines, and you catch a glance at the exposed plasma reactors of the mining barge before your lighter lands upon your vessel.

Caseblanco has everything you need, for a price. Except melta guns, it seems. Four days later, you finally find a merchant with three of the elusive weapons.

"I'll sell all three for an even million thrones, my good sir" grins the merchant.

You scowl, knowing full well that you should be able to buy more than a thousand melta guns for that price, let alone three used ones.

I'd personally suggest so that Percius would spend a couple of days on the surface of Caseblanco just going through the pubs, drug-dens and various houses of dubious reputation, looking for individuals of worth and talent. You never know what kind of gem you can find among all this galactic flotsam.

Priorities:
+Ship specialists(gunners!)
+Prospectors/scouts/explorers
+Engineers/technomages/inventors

If roll is required, please take my d100.

You spend the next two weeks searching the local bazaars and trinket shops, working the vendors and merchants. Though your skill noticeably improves, you're forced to actually buy many small items after the first few merchants signal the others that you don't seem to be buying. In the end, you've spent what little is left of your personal funds. At least you have a nice pair of utility photo-goggles, a hand-carved chess-set, and a fishing rod that can be dismantled for transport, among other trinkets.

Soon enough, Lord Wilson calls his captains and their officers to Rick's. Waiting for several more of your fellows to arrive, you are greeted by Captain Hariso. "Good to see you alive, Percius. A shame your first mark got away, but Kihomi tells me it was quite a lofty target for a lone vessel." As Hariso firmly grips your hand, you notice your voidmaster nearby, her head looking away from you and Elise. Your XO's jaw bulges slightly as muscles tense, her eyes narrowing at Kihomi. "Don't fret the small things, Percius. You're alive and able to hunt another day, and not owing me a cut is always nice, isn't it?" You nod politely, meeting your former superior's eyes. "Living another day is a plus, Lee."

Hariso's smile fades as you use his first name, his hand tightening upon your own before he gives a laugh. "About time you started calling me that, Percius. We'll make a pirate out of you yet! Will you be joining the Captains to discuss Lord Wilson's plan or running off with your officers to play Assassin tonight?"

>Assassin with officers.
>Captains. There is profit to speak of.
>>
>>26604927

Unfortunately, you have no luck locating such specialists that wish to join a pirate crew.

"There you go, thinking like a Captain. Come, let me introduce you to the veterans while we wait on the other rookies." Hariso is quick to lead you through the various officers toward your fellows. "Captain Jed Torl here commands the smallest of our raiders, but she has the biggest guns of them all." "A pleasure to meet you, Captain Aurex. I look forward to working with you." You shake hands with Jed before Hariso whisks you away to meet with a woman. "Captain Pi Modori, she's the best voidship hunter sector Paxia has ever produced." The slender woman bows her head slightly toward you, her eyes betraying the age her face defies. "A preasure, Captain Aurex. Ree has tord me much of you." "Hey now, none of your charms, Pi." The two captains exchange a queer glance as you're once again spirited away. "And finally, we have Captain Quint Jacobs. He's quite the talent-less hack compared to yours truly." "Laugh it up, Lee. They got a lucky hit that disabled my engines." It isn't long before you're caught up in the competitive feud between the two boarding Captains, keeping your opinions and laughter to yourself.

Eventually, your fellow rookie captains arrive, Captains Theo Ristin and Addy Parsen commanding the pair of recently captured transports and Captain Jess Morix commanding a modified cobra destroyer. After some quick introductions and Captain Morix slapping a slightly touchy Captain Ristin, Lord Wilson leads the captains to a private booth overlooking the main portion of Rick's. As you all settle in, you notice that the data slate upon the table is connected to a screen showing the various officers of each Captain and the games of assassin being played by them. "Anyone for a wager before we get started?" Lord Wilson smiles, a pair of thrones rubbing between his thumb and fingers.

Lord Wilson unrolls a massive map upon the table, the gathered captains watching intently. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you our future hunting grounds, Sector Corgus. Captain Jacobs was kind enough to undertake a little trip to get this vantage point from above the galactic plane." Pointing to one edge of the map, he continues. "Sector Deus, our current location, is roughly along this edge. We can not be sure about the true scale of Corgus, as we're uncertain as to the effects of the warp storms that have cut it off from the rest of the galaxy for ages. Personally, I expect each of these squares to be about seven to fourteen days worth of travel via warp." With a sweep of his arm, Wilson points to one of the map corners and places an oddly familiar bottle upon the defiantly curling corner. "Our original stomping grounds, Sector Paxia, are effectively in this corner of the map, though it's position above the galactic plane means there is a slight angle to such things. Rumor has it that a Rogue Trader found a path from Steward's Gate into Corgus and transmitted the path before being slain. I've marked the supposed area in yellow."

"And what of the red circle, Lord Wilson? Treasure?" Captain Parsen seems to be buying into the excitement of Wilson's words.

"Nay, son! That there is where my gut tells me there is a haven! A grand system where a man can be free and enjoy the plunder gained from the sweat of his brow and the ache of his back!" Raising his glass of protheran wine, Wilson presses his finger to the center of the red circle. "Paradise!"

"Our original wolfpack is well known to Paxia, as is the fact that my vessel is likely overdue. However... the vessels we've captured in Deus likely will not be known as lost by Paxia's navy for some time."

Looking at you and the three other rookie captains, Lord Wilson grins. "Any volunteers to return to Paxia and learn of the Rogue Trader's passage into Corgus? We could spare an astropath for such a mission."

I conflicted, its a big chance to scope out the neighbors backyard and get some more contacts. But we don't get to explore right away and we have to deal with the mining barge, if we could get a deal for 15-20% of the cut of mining we could lease it out.
>>
I think I'm actually going to call it here for the night and go into Q&A mode. This could be a very, very big choice.

>>26610327
>what we'd know about Paxia

Paxia is a fairly sparse Imperial Sector. Located above the galactic plane, it has only a handful of populated systems but it has some fairly healthy resources that are exported to neighboring Sectors, including a few forge worlds in the Ultima Segmentum.

Percius Aurex and Elise Eberhardt both hail from planets in Sector Paxia. The majority of the crew was actually born in the sector, but are voidborn and as such aren't really from there.
>>
>>26609648

Alexander Kerr (the RT) did mention that he was obliged to report your vessel had fallen to pirates, but it can take years to update such things between sectors.

Lord Wilson is not quite pleased that you've been identified by your mark, but does not know if they have influence in Paxia. He does know that they have several transports in orbit of this planet, though. They likely won't get word around before the wolf pack has left, though.

>>26610480
>get some more contacts
You could likely namedrop your family name to some effect, if your bastard father hasn't ruined it since you ran away.

Lord Wilson would gladly pay you for the use of the barge. Cut to be negotiated.

Aside from that, I am in favor of volunteering for the scouting job. I am, however, hoping we can get a free refuel, rearm and some financial compensation along with the astropath for the mission. The cash can come later, but the fuel and munitions are a bit on the urgent side.

Wilson won't let your ship run out of fuel or your crew starve [if he can help it], but you'd be expected to round up your own profits.

astropath and some goods to use toward getting the information the mission seeks would be provided for the mission.

Are there any more questions about Paxia or this mission?
>>
>>26619083
whats the piracy situation like in Paxia, is it rampant or are we going to be hunted down by everything in the sector the moment we are found out?

what is public opinion of such a profession, are they devout and pious people or more opportunistic/materialistic?
>>
>>26619204
>piracy situation
Paxia has a heavy Imperial Navy presence for it's population, but this is mostly a result of a very effective bout of pirate hunting last century. Most of the ships were put back into service as naval vessels. With the rumored influx of Rogue Traders and others seeking fortunes in Corgus via the Steward's Gate route, piracy could be much better pickings or could be nearly extinct.

>public opinion
The Imperial public in Paxia is generally not a fan of pirates, though there are a few examples of pirates that have helped the sector by reporting Ork ships and helping to destroy them.

Captain Lane 'Orkbane' Polrick, for instance, was granted a full pardon for his crimes after his small wolfpack came to the aid of an Imperial Navy patrol and destroyed an Ork Kill Kroozer.
When the Sector Governor sent the pardon, Captain Polrick is said to have seduced and run away with the Governor's 4th daughter.
You believe the world in question was actually your XO's, come to think of it.

If I had to guess, I would be tempted to suggest that the 'bonus' is either making Percius appear to be more competent/knowledgeable about the relevant subject, and/or him believing that it makes him more competent/knowledgeable.

kind of like the stereotype that 'Glasses make you smarter', and the fact that while there is no physical reason for that to be true, statistically there is a correlation, even in those who do not usually wear glasses. Just one of those strange psychological effects...

Kind of like if someone tells you about something you know little or nothing about, If they say it with certainty, you are more likely to believe them, even if they have no idea what they are saying, their certainty of speech encourages you to trust what they are saying as true...

"I'll do it."

Your fellow captains all eye you, some in shock, others with a curious glance. "Paxia is my home sector, my family has some connections I could make use of, and they're unlikely to know that my vessel has been put to use by pirates. I can do it." The confidence of your voice isn't betrayed by the nervous feeling in your gut. You ran away for a reason, and this could all go horribly wrong if you slip up. But you've missed your first mark, you have something to prove to the veterans and this is it.

Lord Wilson looks at the other rookies, your fellows showing little in the way of confidence in such a mission. "Aurex, I don't want you going on this mission alone. You'll have your pick of the Ristin, Parsen or Morix. Before we're done here you'll have picked one to join you, understand?" As you nod, he picks up the oddly familiar bottle and roughly places it in your grip. "Drink up, son. You might not wake one morning." The look in his eye when he says those words causes your spine to tingle.

It doesn't take long for Wilson and the veterans to cloister together and begin debating the best path through the Corgus warp storms that divide it from Deus. Your fellow rookies seem to exchanging tales of their own, Ristin and Parsen ever one-upping each other with tales of how they stormed the bridge of their transport. Morix seems disinterested in their stories, enjoying a glass of wine as she watches a few minor bets she made against Hariso and Parsen. Once or twice, you notice her tap a blade against a hand wandering her way from Ristin. Unable to gain much of a foothold in the veterans' conversation and having no taste for allowing your thoughts to return home while drinking, you consider your upcoming task. What the hell were you thinking?

>>
>>26624634
Well ask the barman or something what these bottles go for
>>
>>26624634
Once we get back from our mission we should consider bringing back a bottle for Lord Wilson.

How are the Assassin games going?
>>26624649
I have to say Morix seems like a good pick as well, but we should try to get to know our fellow rookies.
>>
Morix's lack of bluster and indifference to the bragging of your fellow rookies interests you, though the blade in her hand does cause you to carefully maintain a healthy divide. "More wine, Captain Morix?" A weary smile greets you as her glass moves toward your bottle and you pour in a bit more. Placing her blade beside her, she politely offers her hand to you. "Thank you, Captain Aurex." Pouring your own glass, she taps her own gently against it. "To the fallen?"

"To the fallen." You spend a short while talking about the crews playing Assassin, noticing that your crew quickly eliminated Kihomi. Keller and Advinessa have also been eliminated, but the remainder seem to be taking a short break for a shared shot at a bar. Morix's officers number only two, and you soon learn that your fellow rookie had an unexpected run-in with a Q-ship, the ship's concealed weapons batteries nearly claiming her entire vessel in it's attack. As her blade finally draws blood from Ristin's wandering hand, the conversation shifts as the slightly flushed Morix shoots the man a spiteful stare. "He's a lecherous git."

As a server walks by, you signal him over. "Just out of curiosity, can I get another bottle of this wine?" Smiling, the man informs you that it is one of the higher value wines due to the damage done to Prothera by terrorists. "Thousand thrones if you bring me the prices you buy and sell it for, friend." With a nod, the man moves off.

Politely imposing yourself between Ristin and Morix, you wait for the debate over which Captain cut down the most armsmen to end. "So, you both command transports? Any interesting adventures?"

Parsen is quick to respond, telling a grand tale of his part in luring in a victim last month. Though the ploy lured in an Imperial Navy vessel that was too large for the ambush, he talked his way into being supplied with a healthy bit of spare parts to repair his engines. Morix is quick to dismiss the tale with his own attempt at acting as bait. A merchant vessel too large to be properly captured by the small squadron responded, and they made away with several cargoes of industrial machinery. The smug look upon his face is wiped clean when Parsen brings up that Ristin could be commanding a raider if he didn't insist upon Morix spending a night with him in exchange for the exchange of vessels. As the man before you stammers, you sense the Captain behind you glaring at a suddenly uneasy Parsen.

"He uhh... is an idiot for not just taking the offer, especially after all of his boasting that he'd be the best of us for the job." Parsen manages to land a final blow against Ristin before you are able to collect your thoughts.

"Well, then." With a sigh, you rise and head toward the small bar in the corner of the private room. The server from before is there, another bottle of the protheran wine and a small note pad beside it. "Ah, Captain Aurex. Enjoying the meeting, I hope?" A glass of wine is quickly poured for you, the note pad slid your way beside it. "Could have used less information from my fellows, really." Frowning, the man shoots a dirty look toward Ristin and Parsen. "Always a lech in every group, sir. It seems to just be a fact of life. I do have good news, however. It seems that the bottle you had an interest in has seen quite a rise in price. We originally bought them by the case for a thousand thrones, now we're making double that for a single bottle."

"What about a bottle from 300 this millennium?"

Your conversation partner looks stunned for a moment. His left hand rests upon his hip as he leans forward and supports his head upon his right arm. "My good Captain, you seem to speak of the Protheran centenial wines. Did you come across one in your travels? They're typically reserved for when a native son or daughter of the world attains a rank such as Captain. Quite rare to find one that is for sale, let alone get a taste. Oh, Captain" The man closes his eyes, a soft smile playing across his lips. "it is said that the centenial wines contain the winds of the planet itself, it is. When a Captain dies, the cork is to be planted upon their grave so that a seed within will hold them in Prothera's embrace no matter what distant world. Tis why they're kept in stasis at all times."

"Interesting, any idea of the price?"
>>
>>26638131

"One million thrones a bottle, easy. Likely more if you can find a Protheran, since those Astartes allowed the world to be ravaged. Rumor has it that it that there won't be a centenial harvest until 500, possibly 600." The man pours himself a small glass of wine and offers it to you in toast. "As we say on Prothera, Captain. To life and luck. Emperor be with you." Tapping your glass against his, you smile. "And also with you, friend."

Lowering his voice politely, the Protheran before you smiles. "Blushing lady closing from your six, Captain." Morix takes a seat beside you, the red of her blush clearly not wholly a result of the wine she's enjoyed so far. "More wine, Captain Morix? Or perhaps something else?"

"Absinthe, hardest you have." The man's face sours at Morix's request. "My good captain, absinthe after wine is not a very wise choice." Pouring a small glass of wine for Morix, he fails to hide a bit of shock as she shoots it like a shot. With a sigh, he pours the fuming woman a bit of blue absinthe on the rocks, watered down. Holding his hand over the glass as she grips it, he draws her angry gaze upon him. "Sip it." The two stare each other down for a bit, but Morix yields first. "Grox-herder..."

"You've got nothing on even a sedate grox, Captain. Need to vent?"

With a defeated sigh, Morix sips at her absinthe. "That bastard's obsession with screwing me literally and figuratively is getting out of hand." You quietly sip at your wine and watch the Assassin games between the wolf pack officers, noting that your own crew is down to only Keller and Elise at this point. Once or twice you catch some laughter between Ristin and Parsen, or a shout of 'No! No! This plan is...' from the veterans. Eventually, you learn that Morix had little desire to command a raider, her family once a proud line of merchant captains. You're shocked that Ristin wouldn't seize upon the chance to exchange vessels with Morix, given what you've seen of the man. You also learn that the Protheran man's name is Theodore as he sympathetically holds Morix's hand and strokes it with his thumb, your eyebrow raising when you notice him dodging a few attempts by the woman to move somewhere more private. He's quite dedicated to his job.

>>26638709
I think we should offer her the job if only to get her away from Ristin. she obviously could need the peace
>>
>>26638709

I feel as though If we can sort out her ship issues, it may be the beginning of a profitable partnership... If only by virtue of Us being 'the muscle' and her being 'the face' when it comes to raiding and salvaging. possibly set her up as one of few merchants who can safely pass though a particular system... set up ambushes and deterrents for other ships... would get her priority on contracts passing though the area... also good for setting up contacts within the various guilds, clans and groups operating in Sector Corgus...
>>
>>26639087

A grand plan indeed!

How do you propose going about it?
>>
>>26639229
Presumably, we would have to hang out in the area and pirate for a while, hitting defenseless ships, thus making the route unsafe and upping the prices of moving cargo through the area.
Then she would come in and offer transport at lower prices than the rest while bragging about her daring and courage and whatnot. This, combined with her success and a staged failed piracy attempt or two would boost her reputation and attract more interesting contracts.
>>
>>26640119

do note that she currently commands a modified Cobra-class destroyer, a raider.

I'm asking how you intend to get her in command of a transport ship.
>>
>>26640173
Oh, that. Not a clue.
Either way, we have a raider, she has a raider and we need help on a scouting mission which raiders are perfect for.
Invite her to join in.
>>
>>26640173
we steal it?
>>
>>26640308
Do note that this is more of an infiltration mission than a scouting mission.

You're expected to return with the information you can get on the passage from Paxia to Corgus, not scout it yourself.
>>
>>26640326
Well, if we are going to steal a ship, we will probably want to keep it for ourselves and install one of our own subordinates as captain instead of giving it away.
We could still go through with the plan I outlined earlier, just with someone else riding the transport while we do the pirating with the raider.

That's pretty irrelevant atm, as stealing/raiding and boarding a transport is far from easy.

Also, I think we have an armed transport, not a raider, right? My mistake.
>>
>>26640173

There are several ways we could accomplish this...
1 - the 'legal' method. We buy one.
2 - the 'salvage' method. We go to a ship graveyard, drag as much of a transport as bits for it as we can back to a drydock then work on putting it together.
3 - the 'souvenir' method. We simple gang up on a solitary transport ship and put her as Captain of it.
4 - the 'negotiation' method. We trade ships so that She gets Ristin's Transport, but we do it in a round about way so neither of them are on the same negotiation table...

Option 4 would be quickest, Option 2 easiest, Option 1 least repercussive, and Option 3 the most piratety...

>>26640366
We could always trade her the transport for the Raider. She was willing to trade ships with Ristin...
>>
>>26640366
Your vessel is a raider class vessel, but it has a fair amount of cargo space as it was designed as a commerce raider.
>>
>>26640356
Oh, well that's a bit different.

Either way, we still want her to join up with us.
>>
>>26640387

I think, that if our luck holds, once we have gotten the information about the passage to Corgus, and we get a lucky break, we might be able to tail, and subsequently ambush a suitable Transport ship... So long as we do it on our way out, we should be able to make our getaway before anyone realises what's happening...
would also give a relatively cleaner ship with which to conduct the fencing of pirated & salvaged goods....
>>
lets see if I can't condense the ideas.

>Offer Morix a job, see if you can convince or muscle Ristin into trading ships with her
>Offer Morix a job, get her a transport some other time
>Offer Morix a job, transport is her problem

Have I missed anything?
>>
>>26640588
That's it, I think.
For now, we just need her to join in on our information gathering mission, and a raider is more suitable in that regard. I think.
>>
>>26640588

I'd like to go for Option 2, with the second half of Option 1 as contingency... I doubt that Ristin's ship will be wrecked while we are away...

After all, there's no plan like a contingency plan...

You exchange a hand shake with Captain Morix, cementing the terms between you for this mission. Her mood noticeably improves for the remainder of the meeting, though she tactfully manages to place you between her and a slightly moody Captain Ristin. For nearly an hour attention turns to yourself and your new partner as Captains give you advice and request a small army of names to as possible contacts or general inquiries into unknown fates. Most of the banter is pointless, but it seems to improve your overall standing in the eyes of the veterans. Keller eventually wins the game of Assassin among your officers, while Morix wins both of the bets she placed.

Eventually, the meeting comes to an end, though Lord Wilson bids you and Morix to linger. "My men are transferring extra supplies to your vessels as we speak. I'm also providing each of you with 100 wealth for supplies, bribes, and as payment for the information you're after. If you turn a profit off the wealth along the way, it is yours. If you lose it, don't come back. Aurex, I'll be sending an astropath aboard your ship with fifty armsmen to keep an eye on him."

"The barge I acquired may be better off with the fleet, Lord Wilson. I'd simply like a percentage."
>>
>>26641880

"I'll crew and run the barge if you like, Aurex. You'll get a ten percent cut of any gems or any major precious metal deposits we mine. For ordinary ores, I'll earmark a cut of them toward upgrading the vessel with additional cargo modules or we'll see about increasing your cut of ownership in our base. We'll have to negotiate specifics when you return to us, as I can't exactly see the future." Lord Wilson pulls up a series of warp jumps to Paxia upon a data slate. "I'm having the smuggler's runs we used to get to Deus sent to your ships as well, they're fairly well mapped and should reduce your journey to Paxia's main systems to a little over a year. I suggest you depart as soon as your vessels are loaded. The sooner you're back with us, the better.

>>
>>26642719
But we know alternate routes, then? The ones our boss gave us?
If we can get to our destination through any of those systems, I'd go through Barivia.
We can probably take a day or two to hunt things for sport there before moving on.
>>
>>26642343

hmmmm.... Brinica Prime and Garenthis are likely to have the information we require readily available, but they are also liable to have information on our true allegiance as well...
Barivia might have rumors, or equivilant on the matter, but it is a gamble. However they are less likely to know we are pirates...
>>
>>26642825

You will arrive in Paxia in an uninhabited, mostly featureless system via smuggler's runs.

Steward's Gate is the nearest system to both Corgus and Deus.

The other systems are more distant, but aren't Imperial Navy bases first and foremost.

Your destination is simply to goto Sector Paxia [which contains all of these systems] and buy, cheat or steal the information about the route into Sector Corgus. It is valuable to your wolf pack, as they'll be able to locate and raid that passage.

Your mission nearly turns to disaster off the bat when your ship exits the warp with Morix's vessel nowhere to be found. Standard protocol is generally to stay put and allow the lost vessel to arrive in such events, and this time it pays off after two weeks of anxious waiting. Morix is quite confused, and her crew swears that their vessel clawed it's way back to reality at the same time as your own. After confirming that your ship's time is in fact the correct one, your squadron continues on toward Paxia with little trouble.

After thirty-seven days in the warp, your vessels roar back into the void of space, sheding the lingering grasp of tendrils of madness upon the dangerously thin protection of the gellar fields. The augers slowly begin to fill with data as a dozen and a half space stations and lunar outposts pound your position with various forms of radiation, your own systems analyzing the data and rebuilding a map of a solar system you're fondly familiar with. The vox crackles to life, Captain Morix informing you that her ship has entered formation with your own and awaits your lead.

Moving into the system at a relaxed pace, you are soon hailed by the massive station orbiting your home world's northern pole. "Unidentified vessels, this is Garenthis Control. Please transmit your captain's name, port of origin and business."

Your vessels dock without hostile incident, though there is a fair amount of rumbling from the crews as word spreads that your vessels have brought you four years into the future. Armsmen on both vessels take shifts guarding improvised barricades around the gangways and other major intersections of the ships, though the dock workers seem to pick up upon the air of paranoia. Looks are cast your way as you set out from the vessel, Ana and Tes once more moving only a few steps behind you, though they've thankfully abstained from their carapaced voidsuits.

Moving across the station, you quickly pick up a few possible leads on information brokers and begin to narrow them down by reputation. Your knowledge of the local language allows you to catch wind that several of the brokers have been making a killing by selling poor information to the recent influx of strangers to the system and sector. In a few hours time, you've eliminated all but three brokers and introduced your two bodyguards to a branch of your favorite bakery. Both women happily snack upon a specialty of the world, dough of a native plant baked with fresh slices of it's fruit and whipped, flavored cream as filling. Tes soon regrets her choice to discard the floured parchment, staining her lightly colored jacket. "Shit!"

Captain Morix has little trouble finding your little party, and you give her a quick rundown of Nan Pendert's odd little habits. Soon enough you go your separate ways, arranging a meeting with Kerit Periun for yourself.

"Come in, come in! You've got a good look to you, Captain Menexel. How are things in Sector Deus these days? There have been rumors of trouble recently, dark rumors." A thin and wiry man, Kerit never seems to stop moving even though he remains seated the entire time he speaks. Asking about the trade to and from sector corgus, the man gives a mighty laugh. "You sound like one of those accursed Aurexes, Captain Menexel. A lot of rubbish, they are. I hope you're not trading with that whore Asila, you'll give you crotch rot just by touching your cargo!"

Something in you snaps as Kerit says such things about your elder sister. Sure, she wasn't your favorite, nor did she ever really pay any attention to you good or bad. But this bastard... You find your hand firmly upon your laspistol by the time you think to stop yourself, and Kerit is none too pleased. "If you've done business with that whore, we're quite done here." With a press of a button, three armed guards step into the room to escort you out. "Lucky you aren't that Aurex boy that embarrassed his whole family, Captain!"

Removed from the offices of Kerit Periun, Ana sighs. "Well, at least you didn't get us shot, Captain." "Shut up, Ana." Your blood still boils at the idea of that Periun bastard speaking of your sister in such a manner.

Morix hasn't had much better luck, though she has learned that there is little trade coming from Corgus into Paxia. It seems a system of pleasure worlds have been seeing the first glimmers of profit, while the Adeptus Mechanicus have claimed a large swathe of the discovered systems to found a new forge world.

Time to see how Nan is doing.
>>
Nan Pendert's office has changed little since you last stepped into it, dozens of charmed aquilas hanging from the ceiling just above your hat. The smell of incense assaults you for a moment, the thin smoke filling the room with a calming scent of tefef leaves. Your mind wanders as you see yourself slipping into the office, your body's enhanced growth masking the fact that you were barely twenty Terran years of age. A slight ache in your shoulder almost makes you miss the fringe benefits of being part of a noble family, the mild cocktails of rejuv and hormones would see right to the lingering effects of being stabbed years ago. The older woman before you smiles broadly, her face bearing more wrinkles than you remember but far less than her true age would suggest. "Captain Menexel, how might I help you?"

"A pleasure to see you, Nan. You're as beautiful as ever." The woman shoots you a sweet smile, though her eyes begin studying you in detail. "I'm here on behalf of the Kerr Dynasty, Lord Kerr believes his destiny and duty lie within sector Corgus and I've been sent to gather what information I'm able to."

Nan shuffles several data slates around, connecting one of them to a port within her desk. "Yes, Corgus is quite a popular topic these days, Captain. Unfortunately, the true coordinates of the passage they've come to call 'the corridor' are jealously guarded by a select few souls willing to part with the information. Even worse, those same souls have been giving false information to customers that aren't willing to pay the piracy that they demand."
>>
>>26657179

"I'm well familiar with the politics of Paxia, this isn't my first visit. I'm aware that you're a reputable source, Nan."

"That I am, that I am! You're quite the charmer, Captain Menexel. So few of those after my youthful years, and you speak the local language quite well." Looking through her data slate, the woman sighs. "I'm afraid the brokers of this world have little information about Corgus, but I'll sell you what I have for an even twenty wealth. Connections in the Navy that should be able to get you more specific information, a few friends upon the other worlds of the sector. I've even managed to get my hands on a few dozen cargo manifests for the Celentis Dynasty's vessels. Six dozen coordinates for false routes, it should allow you to avoid being sent straight into a warp storm."

Sounds like quite a deal to me and should allow us to get what we need rather quickly. Of course we accept the offer.

Now the only question is do we dare ask about Aurex family while we are here though i'm starting to think she might have caught on to who exactly we are.
>>
>>26657336
I can't see why we shouldn't ask, its always good to know all the different factions and their interests, we can play it off as being smart about the area if we don't want to let on who we are
>>
>>26657187
We should find out information about our younger sister. We might be able to rescue her from her miserable fate! (whatever that migh be)
>>
>>26657361
In that case then lets ask.
>>
Quickly taking one of Nan's older quills from an ink well, you sign 'Captain Menexel' across one of her contracts, filling in the blank for your payment. Nan slowly rises, one of her knees giving a soft pop as she walks around to you. As you extend your hand to officially cement the deal, you're taken by surprise when the shorter woman throws her arms around your neck and squeezes you tightly. "Emperor save me, I thought you were dead, Percius. All because of the ship I put you onto!" Ana raises an eyebrow at your confusion, though you catch a small smile creep across her lips as you return Nan's embrace. "I only begged you to get me onto a ship, Nan. And I'm alive and well, there is no need for this."

You're held by the woman for what seems like an eternity, wondering how her grip is this strong. "Always a sweety, Percius. I'm glad you've only grown a little older and indulged in your little hat obsession." Wiping away at her eyes in turn, Nan gives the brim of your hat a poke. "Oh, your sisters have missed you. Synne keeps stopping by, poor little thing. She's grown so much since you used to visit every day and beg me to spirit you away. Can I tell her I've heard word of you? She's been so sad since you left."
>>
>>26657898

"I'm afraid I haven't been keeping up with the family news, is there anything I should know before I answer that?"

Nan's joy sours as you ask about your family. "There was an assassination shortly after you left. Your father and six of your siblings were slain. Second, fourth, seventh and eleventh sons, ninth and tenth daughters. Your step-mother took control of the dynasty," Nan sticks out her thumb and allows her hand to plummet. "Ran it all into the ground before your brother discovered she was part of some cult and had her burned at the stake. He's been bringing the family back from the brink of destruction, but even for Leandro it is an impossible task. Most of your siblings have been forced to fend for themselves; Alisa has been running a small business that makes nutrient paste for the Corgus expeditions, Jerim managed to get appointed as this station's Administrator. The ones that were married off already had some protection, but one of your elder sisters was accused and executed for being a cultist as well. Osia, was it?"

Nan's hand cups your cheek, her thumb stroking your cheek. "But you, boy. Went and became a Captain just like your Sister. Tell me, how'd you pull that one off?"

>>
>>26657911

"I assume you heard what happened to the ship. I assume you already have an idea as to how... but for the sake of pleasantries, I shall say that I got promoted..."

also, we should confirm the date with her... It could be that Step-mothers cult thing is what caused us to spend 4 years in the warp...
>>
>>26657911
Might want to say it's a long story, but after a lot of work and determination we earned the right to become a captain (which is technically true).

As for giving word to our sister. How fast do you think she would run over here if you said you had "information" about us? Since our father has been killed off we might be able to "help out" the family in some way once we make our way to the Corgus sector.
>>
>>26657911
"I'm afraid I can't answer that Nan. I've already given you a piece of the puzzle, maybe I'll give a few to my sisters. Emperor knows it would give you all something interesting to talk about."

>how fast would Synne get here

"The girl would make the Primarchs themselves envious with her speed."
>>
>>26658183
I know we are a bit "late" on our mission, but a family reunion is something I just can't pass up.

Also, if we can find out how Leandro feels about our disappearance we might be able to have a contact within this sector with the added bonus of them being family.
>>
Nan nods. "Some things are best left unspoken, aren't they? You should avoid mentioning Kerr by name, as well. There has been a call to the Navy that he's vanished into Corgus and has failed to make scheduled reports."

She raises an eyebrow at your mention of the date, though. "They say warp travel is a fickle thing, but yours is not an isolated example. It seems that all travel between Deus and Paxia is being effected. One ship recently reported nearly a decade behind schedule, if the rumor is true."

A soft chime sounds, the signal that Nan has other clients waiting. "I'll keep my eyes and ears open for you, Percius. I trust you'll have my payment ready for collection before you leave." The woman gives you another hug before you depart, handing you a data slate before shooing you out of her office like she used to do on a daily basis. As you rejoin Morix and Tes, you notice that she has also provided information to lead you to Alisa's business, a priority code to meet with your brother Jerim, and how to contact Synne discretely. She's even included information on how to contact your sister Selenti, the ship Captain.

Morix seems shocked by your smile. "Well? What now?"

I have some information that will help us, but I was thinking of having a "small" detour to see a few people here. Before we leave this planet we might have secured us a contact within this system. Would either of you like to join me?"

I say we go down the list and contact Synne first, then Alisa,Jerim, and save Selenti for last since she is also a ships captain.

Captain Morix is more than pleased to return to the ships with Tes and begin going through the information you've acquired. Ana simply gives you a flat look when you try to shoo her as well. "You're not going anywhere without a guard, Captain. Ports are dangerous places." "I could order you." "You could try."

It doesn't take you long to find a terminal to send your message to Synne, though you put Ana to use and have her record the message. In mere moments, you have a reply that you won't have to wait at the secluded station park for long. Ana stands silently beside you as you wait among a small number of other souls, remembering the frail thing that was your younger sister. You idly wonder if you're still stuck in the odd time dilation of your warp journey as time seems to linger longer and longer.

To your left, a laspistol drops to the ground. A shapely woman standing beside it in shock and tears slowly filling her eyes. "Synne." Your younger sister leaps at you, her face soon buried in your shoulder as she begins to sob softly. "Why did you leave me, WHY!?" Synne's hands grip at your clothing she begs you to explain why you abandoned her between sobs.

Ana quietly steps over and picks up the dropped laspistol, gesturing at a shocked onlooker to mind their own business.

Synne's sobs abate at your words, her hands balled in fists that clutch your clothing as if you'll vanish the moment she lets go. "You... you're back for me?" You feel your sister's smile in your shoulder as she clings to you tighter. After a short eternity, she pulls her head back to look at you with her sweet smile. "Irene said you'd be back for me."

Ana sighs, drawing your collective family attention. "Captain, we're attracting a crowd." Defiantly, you squeeze your sister tightly against you and spin yourself in a circle. Her squeak of surprise soon turns to laughter as you play her favorite childhood game. Ana's voice grows cold as you notice her slip a blade from her sleeve into her hand. "Captain. Attention." Following her gaze, you notice four men eyeing your little reunion. They wear the Periun family crest upon their sleeves and the small group of people that had been watching soon move to scatter.

You are at the edge of a large, paved circle roughly 30 meters in diameter, at roughly a 1-2 o'clock position. 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions are paths out to a paved, square perimeter. Planters occupy the area between the paved areas. There are standardized park benches at roughly every 'number' position along the planters.

You don't see any obvious weapons upon the goons, but they could have concealed pistols, blades or other weapons.

Ana likely has at least 2 laspistols, a dozen blades, and probably has a grenade hidden on her somewhere.

Your group moves to exit the park as the Periun goons pick up the pace and move to close upon you. "Ana, make sure Synne is safe. I'll delay them." "Against four men? No, Sir. Stay behind us, girl." Synne shoots Ana a contemptuous, but obeys your cold-eyed companion. Standing your ground in the chokepoint between planters, you turn to face the four men. "Can I help you, gentlemen?"

"Aye, Captain Menexel, is it?" one of the men steps forward from the rest as they slowly spread out just shy of two meters from you. At least two seem to have grips upon short, concealed instruments, likely clubs of some sort. "Aye, that would be me. State your business." The leader grins as he approaches, his posture relaxed as he attempts to calm you and step closer...

"I represent Mr Kerit Periun, Captain. It seems you forgot to settle up with my boss when you departed his company, though I must say I'm shocked to see you getting it wet in two of those diseased Aurex women. Have you no shame, sir?" You note Ana advance slightly against one of the goons, causing her opponent to yield ground at the unexpected move. "Your boss provided no services. I'll pay nothing to be insulted by such a man."

"Oh, but there you are wrong, good Captain. You owe Mr Periun thirty million thrones for his time, you see. A shame his time isn't free or he'd very much enjoy to give it freely. "Let me just give you that money right now."

Your laspistol is drawn and fired before the leader of the goons even manages to give you a confused look, the crackling bolt of light striking the edge of his eye and spraying boiling bits of brain, bone and blood across the pavers of the park behind him. As his corpse goes limp and falls, you step around it toward the second goon, a swing of your sword effortlessly cutting through the shaft of his shock maul and biting deeply into his belly. The sight of his internal organs spilling upon the ground is sickening, and you quickly silence his cry of agony by driving the blade through the dying man's heart. You look toward Ana in time to see the last goon's shock maul connect with her ribs, sending your companion to the pavers as her senses are rocked by the weapon's electrical discharge. The third goon grasps at one of Ana's blades deep within his chest, bright red blood seeping out as the man's movements slow and his flesh quickly grows pale.

You secretly enjoy the sound of the Periun goon's last breath escaping his lungs before you stow your weapons. A whistle sounds in the distance as you help Ana to her shaky feet and note that your sister is frozen in shock at the dead men before her. "You alright, Ana?"

"I think the bastard broke my ribs, but I'll survive." Holding her arm close to her ribs, she reclaims her blade from the dead man at her feet, wiping the blood from it with the man's own clothing and quickly rifling through his pockets. "Ooo, that's a nice throne-purse."

Back to our ship, we have control there and we can talk in private!
>>
>>26663414
Nevermind, wasn't looking for sister.

>>26663393
Lets just get the fuck out of here.
>>
>>26663393
"I'd rather not deal with the arbites today or ever if I can help it sorry Ana but no looting this time let's double back to the ship. sorry for the unwanted excitement dear sister but when I meant "problems that prevented to come get you" it was more along the line of "people out for my blood" I'll explain later."
>>
>>26663393

Now worth the hassle... maybe if we were on our way out, but things to do... so no playing with the local Arbites...
>>
>>26663393
Make a quick grab of everything in their pockets, important or not, and abscond.
>>
>>26663393
Time to get our sister and get the hell away.
Note to self: Take "care" of these Periun fellows.
>>
"Let's move, I don't feel like dealing with the Arbites today."

Synne pulls her hand away from yours when you attempt to lead her away from the scene of death, her eyes showing the shock and confusion within her mind. "Synne. Come on, we can't stay here." Grasping her hand with more than a little force, she snaps back to reality once you get her moving. "We're moving too fast, we'll draw attention." Damn, she is right. Slowing your pace, you maintain your grip upon your little sister's hand as Ana catches up. "Where were you?"

"I like money."

With a sigh, you vanish into the bustle of the trade dock as several arbites rush toward your former location.

>Where to?
>Visit other Sibling [Alisa the trader, Jerim the Administrator]
>Return to the ship
>Other
>>
>>26663725
>Ask Synne if she would go to our ship, then visit another sibling
>>
>>26663725

Get a more detailed run down of the situation of the others. It is likely that even if we don't want her to, Synne IS going to end up on our ship. either as a stow-away, new crew, or our guest...

but I'm thinking visiting Alisa. We'll probably need to stock up on supplies...
>>
>>26663773

>need to stock up on supplies...

Your ships currently have supplies for 4.5 months of [ship time] out of 6 maximum.

>>26663752
>send Synne to ship
Alone or with Ana?
>>
>>26663852
...Shit, we're not going to be able to do that.
Guess it's a family mishmash then.
>>
>>26663852

don't want to get caught short... at least .5 months of supplies could be acquired... If only to help out the business...
>>
>>26663725
>Return to ship
Continue to talk with Synne, and have someone take a look at Ana's ribs.
I fear that Perius will sooner or later see through our facade and try to retaliate against other family members. Maybe Synne should tell them to be vigilant without spoiling the surprise.

>Bring Synne and Anna to visit your older sister Alisa's establishment? Y/N
>>
>>26664035
Agreeing with this.
Ana's in no shape to defend us, and Synne isn't a combatant.

Ask Ana if she want's to go back to the ship and get her injuries sorted out. When she refuses, we just go to Alisa's place, getting the inside update on the family from Synne.

"Let's stop by Alisa's while this dies down a bit."

Synne and Ana are in no condition to dispute your plan, especially as they both look like they need to sit and the location is nearby. The crowds are easily navigated as Arbites continue to rush by, their vox units crackling with various reports. In a few minutes you've led the two women to your sister's modest establishment. "Welcome to Alisa's, friends! Here to refresh your vessel's supplies o- Miss Synne!?" Old Gerard hurries over to your sister, quickly inspecting her for injuries. "Miss Synne? What happened, are you alright?"

"I'm... fine, fine. Gerard, I'm fine."

"Jo! Hurry and fetch Miss Alisa!" shouts Gerard, one of the other workers vanishing into the back at your former weapons instructor's order. Turning to face you, he gives you and Ana a once-over before extending his hand. "You brought Miss Synne here? Thank you, Sir. Her family very much appreciates this. Your companion seems to be injured, is the wound serious?"

>Orders?
>>
>>26664467
I'd rather like you to help her recover.
And then we go and worry about Synne.
>>
>>26664467

"We believe she may have a few broken ribs..."
I don't know what kind of temp patch job is done on broken ribs... if it is something as simple as bandages, then we could request a single roll of them. She can get a proper once over back on the ship...
>>
>>26664467
Hug Synne and apologize what we made her saw.
>>
>>26664467
Tell him she might have a few broken ribs and any help he could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Now to see how Alisa feels about us returning.
>>
>>26664705
Today's treatment usually consists of three weaks of caution and analgetics. Maybe there is something better in M40.

"Broken ribs? I do hope that wasn't over Miss Synne." Gerard signals another worker and they proceed to close the business and lock the door. Looking at Ana, your former teacher politely smiles. "If you don't mind, Miss, I'll need you to remove your clothes." Ana looks to you, her face clearly pale from pain. "He's a friend, Ana." "Aye, Captain Menexel."

"Captain, eh? A pleasure to meet you, Captain Menexel. I wish it were under better circumstance, but I'll take what I'm given at my age." Extending his hand, Gerard regards you smartly. "The name is Gerard, Captain." "A pleasure. Do be wary, she does bite." Ana stares daggers at you for the comment, though your old friend laughs heartily. "That's how I like 'em. Nice and feisty!" Turning his attention to Ana, he helps her remove her jacket, shirt and vest before carefully touching his hand against her bruised ribs. "Shhh, lass. You'll be fine. You'll be fine."

By the time your elder sister arrives you've helped Gerard wrap Ana's torso in a large bandage before helping her slip back into her clothing. Two of her ribs were likely broken, and she soon finds a tablet of pain salve working it's way through her system. With a smile, she thanks the older man for the temporary medicae treatment.

"Synne!" Your older sister's voice fills the room, startling you from your quiet apologies for making her see the carnage of that battle. Rushing to Synne and embracing her, Alica eyes Ana and then you with suspicion.
>>
>>26665243

"Percius!?" Alica's face goes pale and you notice her embrace upon Synne begin to slacken...

Gerard's eyes grow wide and lock upon you at your sister's sudden outcry.

>Orders?
>>
>>26665281
I'm surprised you didn't notice me straight away.
>>
>>26665281

"I got a ship and happened to be in the Sector.... would have been here Three years ago if not for the infernal warp anomalies... I hear things have gone rather sour since I left..."
>>
>>26665281
"Percius?!? Where?!? *insert shit eating grin here*
>>
>>26665281
"Yes, and even better! I have a ship! And hats! And a servo skull to attend to my hats!"
>>
>>26665336
>>26665391
>>26665440

As you posture, your elder sister faints, collapsing into a heap against the crate that a stunned Synne sits upon.

Gerard and Ana simply look at you, confused.

Synne's laughter fills the room as your face flushes slightly.

>We're in autosage and your sister just fainted.
>Next Thread on Tuesday @ 2-4 PM EST
>Usual Q&A until the thread auto-sages

Thanks for playing this week, folks.
>>
>>26665546

how much bad juju is coming from the wolf pack over the lateness? significant, or those things happen.??
>>
>>26665579
I've given in-universe clues as to that in this thread. I'll not give meta ones.
>>
>>26665614

So.... either they are raiding the profits away, are also in a time lagged warp journey, or went straight into a warp storm on bad information...
