The time has come to lead the noble Sky Sons into legend and glory, friends. Gather around the speaking stone, and show us the wisdom that will make our tribe into kings of Dragon Pass. It's only by your might and your leadership that we will succeed against enemy tribes, evil monsters, and the very land itself. Come, and see the tale unfold before you of the Sky Sons!

>What is King of Dragon's Pass, you weird person?

King of Dragon's Pass is a PC game from 2000. In King of Dragon's Pass, or KoDP, you play as a single tribe of celt/nordic bronze age warriors as they settle, colonize, tame, and eventually dominate a foreign land. In this version of /tg/ Plays, I'll run the game for you all, and I'll carry out the actions that you tell me to in the game, then report back with the results. You can be a part of the complete victory or tragic defeat of a tribe made by /tg/ itself, the Sky Sons!

The last time the council ring convened was at the end of the year, mere weeks before Sacred Time. This last year has not been kind to the Sky Sons; we lost our clan leader, Garstal to a hero quest, and were forced to re-organize the council ring in order to satisfy Eurmal's mad whims. Not to mention our assaults on the blight-born Vostangs have yet to net anything except dead soldiers.

Perhaps the dawn of a new year will change the luck of the Sky Sons, but what should we pursue in the last few days of this one?

Perhaps the most pressing concern is the diminished number of weaponthanes; trolls slew many of our trained warriors this year, and without more, we'll have difficulty protecting caravans or even our tula without stretching our forces too thin. We could take on more warriors in this space before Sacred Time.
>>
>>26605575

Thankfully, our food problems from last year are mostly resolved; now we're not at risk of a sudden shortage. Though when we lost some of our farmland to a sudden opening in the earth, we did promise the cottars that we'd cut down more forest to make room for farms. We will need more cattle if we wish to expand and take down more than a few hides worth of trees, however.

The profit of our markets has also improved after finally entering a trade agreement with our allies, the Wolves. Now new goods flow into our coffers every season as opposed to every year. We're supporting about as much trade as we possibly can right now, though with more veneration to Issaries, our wealth will increase even further.

The Sky Sons have more enemies than allies out in Dragon Pass, unfortunately. An alliance of opportunity was forged with the Blackrocks, thanks to our shared worship of Humakt and our shared respect for duck-kind. The Swamp Ducks and Beaker Ducks also regard us well, the latter for allow them to use our shrine to Humakt and the latter for entering into peace agreements when we first discovered them.

The Vostangs are our eternal hated foe, and while we feud with the Peluskis, we do not hold the same level of disgust and sheer rage at them that we reserve for the Vostangs. Relations with the Stag Hearths has not gone well either, due to the intractibleness of their women.

Very true. Valensta is the most skilled trader in the entire clan, and is eager to take silver and cows from other clans.

>>26607190

Speaking of the situation of our warriors, some of the thanes approach the ring and demand that we take on more. Satisfying them shouldn't be too difficult, since it is what we desired in the first place.

Should we send Valensta out on a mission to find more thanes, or accept any that step forth? Or take another path that the clan desires more?

Our failed heroquest has not inspired a lot of confidence in the clan. Overall, they are dissatisfied, the farmers are shaken, and the thanes are resolved.

And with that, this less-than-fortunate year comes to a close. Thanks to the last bit of trading, however, we do look a bit more prosperous than we did a year ago. Our failed heroquest and change in leadership still stings, however.

And indeed, fortune smiles upon us this Sacred Time, and the omens are good for avoiding kinstrife this coming year. Given the enemies that surround us, the last thing we need is to fight amongst ourselves. And the omens for crops aren't poor, either.

So, now, what should we give magic to this year? Heroquesting may not be wise, given our failure this year. We still hold the ire of the trolls, so some magic to war would be prudent as well. We have many sick, so healing magic would be useful, too.

I'd do this, except switch war and health, because I don't know if we'll be able to raid that much.

This is true, though the shrine protects us from maladies incurred after we sacrificed to her, and will keep our people healthier overall.

>>26607754

That is up to the clan ring. Magic given to Diplomacy will help us interact better with our neighbors, such as when attempting to establish trade relations, end feuds, or start alliances. If this is what the clan desires, then investments there are wise.

Despite the noxious form of the rotting chaos beast, it does not affect our ability to grow crops or keep our cattle. It must have died somewhere out in the woods, perhaps.

And with that, Fire Season is upon us. Neither Valensta or Voskandra have returned yet, so the traditional raiding may want to wait until they return with more stout warriors. By Orlanthi law, clans are honor-bound to return favors owed when called upon unless they are literally incapable of fulfilling what was asked for. Asking for more than the traditional amount will earn us the ire of our neighbors, and asking for less will make us appear generous. The only opportunities for failure are if whomever we approach has nothing to give, or if the caravan is attacked while traveling.

This is true as well.

While Voskandora is exploring our tula, they meet a man who dresses himself in scales of bark. He utters a prophecy, in which we will become embroiled in a feud over stones, after which we must give away one of our treasures, else we will fall prey to more beasts.

Almost everyone on the ring considers him mad, though Kenstrel sees a kindred spirit and wishes to adopt him. What should we do about this unique man living on our lands?
>>
>>26610086
So what I'd like to say is that we'd ask our weakest allies for gifts.

Since they're weak, there's a big chance they'll ask us for a gift sooner or later, so we'll have our influence back.

Sounds solid right?

Of course, if we can only get gifts from powerful clans, I'd rather keep that influence for later, when we're back on our feet.

Perhaps trade food for more cattle and horses, then?
>>
>>26611602
Have someone explore our own tula while the others are exploring abroad.
>>
>>26611726
Horses.
>>
>>26611726
I suppose we could try.

Horses are really expensive though.
Whats the food to cow trade ratio?
>>
>>26611700
>>26611726
We don't want to spend down to zero goods though, because then we won't have any left for emergencies, so get some goods anyway.
>>
>>26611726
Don't trade for goods.

>>26611778
We'll get more goods in storm season and more at year end from our markets. We'll have plenty of buffer.

Valensta takes the familiar path to Wolf territory, laden with grains freshly pulled from the earth and dreaming of profit.

While Voskandora travels north, she encounters a group of bandits. She's quite the skilled fighter, and has a few warriors following her. Should she engage the bandits, or find another way around them?
>>
>>26611831
Combat is probably her best option.

You only sent three thanes with her?
>>
>>26611831
Ragged, malnourished brigands cannot stand against the might of our warriors. Teach them the error of their thieving ways.
>>

The only thing we have to worry about is blood ruining her nice clothes. KILL THEM ALL.

The brigands turned out to be a bit more threatening than the ones we encountered in our tula, and deal some wounds to Voskandora. She does return to us, thankfully, to rest and heal. Perhaps explorers going outside our borders will need more accompaniment in the future.
>>

3 thanes is just too few man. Always have at least 5.

While our explorers deal with outlaws abroad, we're forced to deal with outlaws closer to home. Tusk Raiders charge into our tula and steal some of our harvest, and now the question becomes what to do about these interlopers.
>>
>>26611933
Damn, got lucky. I expected a wizard to surf a spear through Voskandora's head.

Our warriors are ready to bring vengeance to those who would attack the Sky Sons, but first, who should lead the war party? Ernaldess is the ring's best fighter and the best solo combatant, but Karendra has better skills in leading warriors.
>>
>>26612054
Knowing our luck they'd probably just take our money and tell the Vostangi.
>>
>>26612139
Ernaldness is the only one there who worships a war god, unless you consider Orlanth one, either way pick Ernaldness.

As the hands-down best warrior in the clan, Ernaldess is sent to lead the war party against the tusk raiders. Given that we're unlikely to be raided, we could put a full war party against them, but there is still food to be harvested; sending too many footmen would lessen how much we pull in. Thanes, however, we can send as many as we like.

So I just got the game and I can't run it. There's a matching support option for the problem I'm having, which is that my screen resolution changes but the game doesn't run. Their solution was to kill processes for Google Chrome and Windows Live Sign-In Assistant, but I'm not running either. Anyone else have this problem?
>>

The last of the harvest is taken in, and snow blankets the tula as Dark Season falls.

Thanks to our markets and alliances, we finally have the resources to construct a wall of stone around our home. Should we go ahead and fortify our position, or do something else with our wealth?

I have the same version, and I had the same problem, so here's what I have: make it run in 640x480, disable display scaling, and run as adminstrator. For some reason, that makes it work. Don't know which part in particular is the problem.
>>
>>26612433

The cottars spend the cold days depleting almost our entire stock of trade goods getting the resources, but a thick and sturdy stone wall now encircles the tula. Defending our home should now be much simpler.

Valensta also returns through the winter snow, bringing us 5 horses and 8 cows from the Wolves.

The wall was finished just in time, as it turns out, as the trolls descend upon us once more. They used the cover of snow and darkness to approach us, and they outnumber us. But we're in a strongly defensible position, thanks to our fortifications.

How should we go about protecting the Sky Sons land, fellow thanes?
>>
>>26612478
giving that a shot..
>>
>>26612588
Should we try using Elmal's Amber?
>>

Man, why the fuck are the trolls so pissed at us?
>>
>>26612695

We could, but its use is most potent when we skirmish. Which is something the Sky Sons do not excel at.

>>26612706

Because we have the Iron Spike.
>>
>>26612588
Sit on top of the wall and laugh at them.

Trollkin are weaker than humans, so I don't know if you can really consider us outnumbered. What sort of battle plan would take the most advantage of our new wall?
>>
>>26612588
Drive them off.

What does Skirmish beat again?
>>
>>26612721

>>

Probably some form of evasion.

>>26612748

>>26612775

>>
>>26612766
Yeah, let's try evading then. Give our walls a test siege.
>>
>>26612727

We attempted to fall back to the safety of our fortifications, but the trolls caught us before we could make it. However, the saying "Always be afraid of a cornered Sky Son" proves to be true, as we slay many of the trolls with few losses.

Delivering such a decisive victory puts the warriors in high spirits, while the cottars continue to be glum. Snow still chokes our lands, making trade or exploration difficult.

How should we spend the last of these cold days? Perhaps by offering sacrifice to the gods that have sheltered us? Or by replacing the losses we've taken in recent days? Or pacifying the carls?
>>

>>26612888

So perhaps feasting isn't the most desired of ideas. In that case, what is the will of the clan ring? Perhaps sacrifice to Issaries to give us more trading potential, or Urox to protect us from the chaos surrounding us?
>>
>>26613158
Perhaps Vinga for more luck with exploration?

She has two blessings and both are amazing.
>>
>>26613227

That's not a bad idea, but now that I look at it, we're in autosage and it's pretty late. I think we'll end it here, and on Thursday, we can try calling on Vinga's favor.

This thread will soon be archived up at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Sky+Sons and you can find updates, apologies, and reminders about the Sky Sons at https://twitter.com/RingSpeaker. Thank you everyone who participated tonight, and I hope to see you all next time! With hopefully less chaos as well.

>>

Wow, we've BEEN at autosage. Impressive.

Lotta good events this time. And by that I mean interesting and bringing out a lot of response type of events, like the Chaos whatsit one.

Managed to restock our thanes and FINALLY get that wall too, meaning all the goods we get from here on out are spending money for whatever we want.
