You are the voices in Scout Commander Scott Yellowman's head, and you are currently fighting for your life against a rampaging space dragon with the help of alchemists, pro-wrestlers, paladins, and aliens.

Man, you never thought you'd have to say THAT again.

Fighting in the famed Central City of Amestris, the timely arrival of Sylph's Shop has finished the job of demolishing the inter-dimensional gate that summoned the dragon here. As the dust around the shop and destroyed gate settles, the Quartz Dragon you had been fighting breaks free of the stone bonds laid upon it by the State Alchemists and soars up into the sky. Still holding onto it, Zangief gives a scream of either excited elation or abject horror as the beast drags him into the sky.

"This is getting ridiculous even for me," Yellowman mumbles, shifting the M56 Smartgun on his frame. He yelps and darts back as a gunshot blasts a small hole in the pavement in front of him. The Spectre and the black suited man on top of one of tall buildings nearby point at him.

"Last chance, Guardsman," the Spectre shouts down. "Back off and quit the race. I've killed for less than that wish."

"Suck a psychic dick, you... you psychic dick!" Scott shouts back. Fat Fot Pot bobs in the air.

"Even I think that insult was kinda lame," the plant-self comments.

"Shut up!" Yellowman retorts. "See that shop? We've got reinforcements popping out any second now."

"But we've still got to contend with the dragon, those racers on the building, and whatever else is gonna come here thanks to Conti's stupid deadman's switch!" Elyse says, gripping her sword tighter. "And I've only got one spell left! Do we have a plan?!"

Do you?

"Yes, we have a plan. Two birds, one shot... Well, okay, maybe not *one* shot.. Heheheh...."

See that flying dragon, Yellowman? Take that Smartgun, time it just right, blow a wing or two off that dragon, and have the bastard land right on top of that dick-ass Spectre.

Give them a harsh two-fold lesson on Inertia and Gravity.

"Of course we have a plan! Maybe stupid, maybe reckless, but a plan!
"Scott, leave the dragon to the people that can actually deal with it. Target the Spectre instead.
"Elyse stay ready for the Spectre to teleport and if he teleports close by, slash him. As for Charlie, go for suppressive fire using the Amestrian SMG on the Spectre and his friend."

"I'm not going to hide in the middle of a fight, what kind of crusader do you think I am?!" Elyse says, horrified at the suggestion. "At the very least, I'll do what you said before. If the Spectre teleports I'll slice him up!"

"Ah, suppressing fire. All the fun of shooting without any need to bother with aiming," Charlie chuckles as he raises the SMG and opens fire on the two on the building, emptying a full magazine at the pair and forcing them to scatter and take cover.

"Don't have to aim with this baby either," Scott says, targetting the Quartz Dragon with the smartgun as it begins to dive down for another pass. "I just hope the firepower is enough..."

Scott fires the smartgun, the rig automatically aiming it for him so that every last one of the forty rounds fired finds its mark.

Unfortunately, it isn't enough.

Though chips of crystal and bits of blue blood fall from the dragon at the attack, the damage sustained isn't enough to make it change course, and it slams into Rufus, knocking the far man into the air and out of sight with a startled wail. For Zangief's part, it is all he can do to hold on while Major Armstrong punches another iron-spike volley at the monster.

"Should've taken our deal, yellow!" the Spectre calls, peeking up and firing a hastily aimed burst from his gauss rifle that misses Scott. "Remember, don't hurt the pally."

"I know the rules, you don't need to repeat them to me," the suited man growls. He suddenly vaults over the side of the building, rapidly climbing down with inhuman dexterity.

An explosion suddenly blasts off a chunk of a nearby building, its source not immediately visible as the door to the Shop opens and a lovely woman in a dress walks out. She smiles as if not noticing the battle around her and waves to Yellowman.

"Ah, good! It took some doing, but I managed to find you, Commander Yellowman! Oh my, arriving in the middle of a dragon fight? That takes me back..." Sylph says, ducking just in time to avoid the mammoth beast swooping overhead. "Anyway, I'm here to take you home!"

"Your timing really, really needs work, Sylph!" Scott shouts back, keeping the smartgun trained on the dragon and continuing to unload. "Like, really, really, REALLY!"
>>

The caseless rounds of the smartgun are obviously not enough and we already used our SLUC.
Scott, target that Spectre with the M56, Charlie and Elyse concentrate on his partner.

FFP, try to poison and stun the dragon again; you can fly and keep up with it as well as avoid its attacks.

Sounds suspicious. Keep Elyse away from these guys! Scott, take out that Spectre while Charlie tries to suppress that suited guy. Elyse, if there's any convenient pieces of rubble or whatever lying around, use your enhanced strength to try and squish that suited guy flat. Do not let either close distance!

Also, yes. Your timing needs so much work, Sylph. But we'll talk about that later. Got anything in there for dragonslaying? Kind of a rush order!

Scott keeps the smartgun tilted up and fires another forty rounds at the Spectre. The assisted aim bullets make a mockery of the cover the special operative was using, striking whatever small piece of body protruding from the lip of the roof. Under the continuous hail, the agent's high tech armor begins to crack in places, and a few bullets hit the chinks in the suit, passing through in a bloody spray. The Spectre vanishes from sight.

"You got him!" Elyse cheers. Scott lowers the gun.

"No I didn't. That wasn't quite enough to kill someone like a Spectre. He's just licking his wounds and probably circling around," Scott says. The roar of an Amestrian SMG interrupts Scott's thoughts as Charlie mag dumps on the Spectre's charging partner. A few rounds find their mark, but between the enemy's speed and well-trained evasive maneuvers, most of the bullets fly past him.

"Suppressive fire doesn't seem to be too hot against this guy, just sayin!" Charlie says, ejecting the spent magazine and fishing around for a spare.

"If you were real military, you'd know better than to mag-dump a target tha-"

"Shut up an' shoot him already!"

"They also went around abducting little kids to be younglings for their Order!" Elyse counters, selecting a small boulder and pulling it over her head. "Wait, old or new order? New one's okay..."

"Focus, please!" Scott yells, twisting his head around in displeasure as his arms were too full of guns to gesture.

"Eh? Oh, right! Sorry!" Elyse shouts, hurling the boulder at the oncoming suit. The giant rock sails true, striking him directly on the head and making him bleed, but not fall. Elyse winces. "Maybe I needed a bigger rock."

"All right, you want a piece of me?" Charlie says, one hand disappearing into his suit to re-emerge with brass knuckles. "You'll wish you- OW!"

The suited man dives in low then springs up in a jumping uppercut that lifts the ex-bouncer clear off his feet and onto the pavement.

Charlie hits the ground hard and when he sits up, he wobbles from side to side, groaning slightly.

>Charlie is at 3 Wounds and stunned for a turn.

Fat Fot Pot darts to and fro on its hover-discs, avoiding all of the Quartz Dragon's thrashings as Pot ejects a cloud of sleep spores into the crystalline lizard's face. The dragon shakes its mighty head from side to side, its movements growing sluggish, though it does not sleep.

Armstrong once again punches the ground and spears of stone erupt upward to pierce the Quartz Dragon. The monster gives off an ear-splitting shriek, then fires a beam of blinding light from its maw. Major Armstrong utters a surprised shout as the beam hits him dead on, dealing a nasty burn and causing him to clutch at his eyes.

"I'm blind! I can't see!" he says, fumbling around the street.

"Eyes are good, but eyes not muscle! Iron muscle is all you need for victory!" Zangief shouts, jumping up from his hold on the dragon's back to drive his elbow into the stony hide. Then with a feral grin he grabs one of the crystalline protrusions on the monster's back and pulls, straining his muscles to their limit as a sound like crumbling rocks splits the air. Zangief pitches back as he manages to rip a huge piece of crystal off the dragon's back with his bare hands. The monster shrieks again while Zangief laughs and holds up the sparkling trophy triumphantly.

Then he pitches forward to the ground as the dragon is bowled over by a great impact and explosion to his left side.

"Wait a minute..." Yellowman says, grinning. "I know what that is. That's an Impact Cannon firing! Corporal Burton's here somewhere!"

The tiny aliens bob in acknowledgement and then dive for your trained mimic to retrieve the device.

Scott whirls around with the smartgun and depresses the firing handle, unleashing another stream of forty auto-aimed bullets at the attacker. Whatever his suit is made of seems to stop a fair amount of the projectiles, but more cut through him than not, and blood begins to pour freely from multiple gunshot wounds.

"You and your goddamn aim-bot," the man hisses, rushing forward with a sudden burst of extra speed and latching onto the smartgun, attempting to rip it away from Scott. "Let's see how you fight without your cheater's toy!"

Elyse moves to help Scott, then grimaces and stays where she is, visibly bristling at the order to keep watch for the Spectre rather than join the fight with an ally.

A flurry of light beams dart from the Quartz Dragon's back to split into two separate volleys, one homing in on Zangief and one on Scott. Already struggling against the suited man, Scott is unable to avoid the projectiles and pain flares through his body as the burning missiles bore into his back.

The dragon is thrown off balance by another explosion generated by what Scott claims must be Corporal Burton. The familiar discharge of the Ghost's strange energy rifle follows, striking the dragon dead in one of its eyes. The great beast begins to thrash and claw the air around it, managing a few more hits on Zangief as the only remaining melee fighter engaging the creature.

"I think it's getting weaker!" Pot squeaks.

"I've got a positive response on the communicator!" Fat says, holding one end of the Transpace Guard communicator to his ear. "Just have to figure out what channel he's using. Corporal Burton? Burton, come in!"

"That's... nice..." Scott wheezes, the suited man having slipped behind Scott. Grabbing the smartgun by either end, the martial artist now seeks to choke Scott by pulling the weapon against his throat.

Maybe the Ring of Bliss and the Flask of Girl?

Either way, the Quartz Dragon is the least of our problems right now.
Charlie should have shaken off that stun, so he can give the suit a facefull of point-blank 'Gertrude says Hello' burst; Scott just has to grab the suit's hands and keep him there.
If the suit lets go to get away, Scott can shoot him again. If the suit doesn't let go of Scott, Scott should use one hand to grab Statler, aim down and back, and shoot the suit right in the groin.
Elyse should grab the Dragon Slayer sword and slay that dragon.

Elyse grabs the Flask of Girl and Ring of Bliss and hands them off to Sylph before taking the sword and rushing towards the massive dragon. The creature roars as it charges Zangief, driving the Russian into a nearby building where he groans and falls limp.

"I take nap now. Fight more later," he mumbles, half-aware before falling unconscious. The dragon looks like it's about to lunge forward and finish the job when another bolt of light and explosion slam into it, causing it to whirl around and fire a beam of light at a nearby roof.

Scott lifts his leg up and kicks back as hard as he can. The suited man grunts in pain, but does not waver as he continues to hold Scott tight. Scott kicks again and again and the man's grip finally loosens just long enough for him to be able to worm his way out.

Metal shrieks in protest as the suited man rips the smartgun free from the robotic arm and rig attached to Scott, the wily scout commander falling to his knees and rolling away before his opponent can re-initialize the grapple.

"Bada-bing, bada-BOOM!" Charlie says, leveling Gertrude at the suit and holding down the trigger. Six buckshot shells blow through the man, sparks beginning to fly from beneath his suit as blood soaks his clothing. Charlie whistles. "What are you, half super mute? You should be dead twice over by now, pal."

"I'm... a stubborn... sonnuvabitch," the suited man says, breath heavy and slow as his movements no longer show the inhuman speed they once did. Still, he raises a fist and pounds it into the ground, glowing with power for a split second as the stone around Charlie and Scott explodes upward, knocking them off their feet and wounding them. Scott's armor protects him, but Charlie's does not. The bouncer takes on yet more injuries as Scott barely catches Fat's voice.

The Quartz Dragon looks about ready to rise into the air once more before an impact cannon blast mangles a wing. The beast sinks back to the ground with a shriek, turning around just in time to bat the charging Elyse away with a particularly well aimed claw. The newman paladin is bowled over by the blow, falling prone as another sniper blast barely misses the dragon.

Charlie raises his gun to fire, but the suited man jumps for Scott, spoiling his aim.

"Too slow!" the suit says, grabbing Scott by the throat. Lightning plays around the hand and Scott lets out a gurgling cry as electricity is pumped through his body at the same time he is strangled. His move, not to his neck to try and break the hold, but to the pistols at his side. A burst of plasma and a gauss-accelerated slug punch through the suited man's torso, causing him to cry and stumble back, dropping to a knee. Scott drops to a knee as well, gasping for breath after the assault. A bullet whizzes over his head as the Spectre reappears nearby. The sniper now takes cover behind a window some stories below the roof of the building he was atop.

"Thesus, pull back. You're useless dead, and you're not managing to defeat anyone like that," the Spectre says.

"Can't... believe it..." the suit wheezes, fumbling for something in his suit. "So close... Congratulations, Guard. I'm out of the running. Emergency... Emergency recall."

The suit hits something and vanishes in a burst of blue light.

"It's annoying to say that we've underestimated you, but there it is," the Spectre says. "But look at you. You're almost as bad off as my buddy. Just walk away from this."

Dashing behind a wrecked car, Scott peeks around the hood and fires off four rounds. Four tiny homing rockets burst from the shells and streak towards the sniping Spectre, unerringly striking him despite his vanishing behind cover. Four small detonations are heard as the missiles strike their target, and the loud cry of pain gives no doubt of their effectiveness. Charlie pulls a grenade from his belt, plucks out the pin and hurls it upward. The explosive detonates just shy of the window, peppering the Spectre with debris and dust and obscuring his vision, but little else. The Spectre vanishes into the dust cloud and no return fire comes for now.

Jumping up to a standing position, Elyse raises her newly acquired sword before charging the Quartz Dragon. The dragon fires one of its blinding beams from its jagged maw, but the paladin ducks just underneath it, speeding up her charge as she leaps over another sweeping claw and lands on the back of the dragon's neck. The monster roars and shakes from side to side, attempting to dislodge its unwanted passenger. Elyse grabs onto a crystalline horn with one hand and holds tight, solidifying her footing and handhold before driving the blade into the Quartz Dragon's neck. The monster tries to take off, but flight is now impossible with its wings mangled from the continued assault of everyone present. It gets a foot off the ground, then crashes back down, Elyse doggedly maintaining her balance and thrusting the sword into the foe again and again and again. The dragon seems to be in greater and greater pain, rolling over in an attempt to crush the paladin, throwing itself against buildings trying to scrape her off. Throughout it all, Elyse keeps her grip and keeps stabbing until finally the dragon lets out a final pained sigh and explodes into a million shards of crystal. Elyse lets out a startled yelp as he suddenly falls to the ground, looking around and blinking while dusting herself off. Finally it dawns on her.

"I... I did it!" she says, eyes widening. "I... I'm a DRAGONSLAYER! I'M A DRAGONSLAYER!!!"

Elyse lets out a proud cheer as she jumps up and down, and only the dour voice of Scott Yellowman snaps her back to reality.

"That's nice Elyse, but shadowy psychic assassin still trying to kill us. Not you for some reason, but us," Scott says from behind the car as a sudden gunshot punctuates his words, shattering the windows of the vehicle.

We should also get the Motion Tracker turned on; the Spectre's teleporting might show up as a blip on the tracker, and since the Tracker uses ultrasonic waves, it might get through the Spectre's cloak.

There's also seeing if there's anything in our inventory we can trade to Sylphe to have her fix the Predator Gear and Broken Plasma Caster; attaching those to Scott's armor would give him a distinct advantage.

The combistick is a pretty good melee weapon, probably better than the sword that Scott has, so I'd prefer to keep it.
The Predator Gear itself isn't broken, so we just need to take the time to integrate it into the suit.
The Speargun is also functional.
The Plasma Caster is the problem, because it's the most valuable and hardest to repair.

Scott, think you and FFP can fix the Plasma Caster?

I'm with >>26620484. Get that Motion Tracker action going. This guy is probably trying to heal himself or lining up a good shot on us. Keep an eye on the high points around you. Charlie, might wanna make sure Gertrude's got a full load of shells while there's a momentary lull.

Elyse, good work on slaying your first dragon. Now, who's nearby? Armstrong's blinded, so he's not going to be too much help.. Is Mustang still about? I think we might need some alchemical demolition going on in a hurry and he's pretty damn good at it. If Mustang's in earshot, see if we can get some support. This Spectre needs to go down hard.
>>
>>26622196
Mustang is not in the immediate area, but there are plenty of State Military wandering around now that the dragon is dead and the gate is down. You might try asking one of them to get him down here.

"Motion Tracker's got nothing, but remember its range is really limited when things get in the way. It just means he's not on open ground or he's in a building and 20 meters or more distant," Scott reports, checking the device. "I should be able to pick him up when he tries to close to fighting range again, though. Assuming I can pick him out from all the other moving things around here."
>>
>>26623153
Scott, what about your Card? Any other Racers around, or did Ghost Girl also leave?

FFP, can your Sap heal Armstrong's eyes?
We're staying around until the Elric's finish figuring out how to open the Gate to the finish line, may as well get Mustang more indebted to us.

"Good idea..." Scott says, touching the card and concentrating. "Hmmm. Ghost must be somewhere around still, maybe the Spectre too, though he's keeping distant."

"It'll be tricky, but I can probably manage if his eyes aren't too badly hurt. If they are, he'll need magic or something," Fat says, flying over to the hulking Alchemist and dribbling a little sap in his eyes before flying back. Uncertain as to what happened, Armstrong rubs at his eyes and mumbles something. He pauses.

"MY SIGHT RETURNS!" he booms, flexing his muscles in triumph. "And the dragon slain? Glorious! Who performed such a mighty deed?"

"Uh... I did?" Elyse says, timidly raising her hand. She is immediately scooped up in a crushing embrace by the Major.

"Fantastic work! I commend you with all my very soul! Allow me to show my respect and lift your fatigue with an embrace of praise and honor!" the muscled man says.

"You're... crushing... me..." Elyse says, struggling in the hold.

"That's just the Armstrong style of hug, passed down generation after generation!"

Through the smoke and dust of the ruined gate, a weary figure in body armor approaches, a massive gun slung over his back. Dark ringed eyes look up from under an armored helmet as he nods to Scott.

"Commander," he says in monotone.

"Burton," Scott says in the same deadpan fashion. "How'd it go?"

"I can't complain."

"That's a bald faced lie. Complaining is what you're best at," Scott says. Burton smiles a little.

"Had to make sure it was you. Who're your friends?" the fellow Transpace Guardsman asks.

"Long story, I'll fill you in once the area's secure," Scott says. "Any sign of that Ghost?"

"You met her too, huh? Not too friendly, but she seems to have taken offense at the concept of a 'death' race. I've caught her pulling other racers out of jams more than once, though half of them seem to have been wasted effort," Burton says. "She's around somewhere, I think."

Hopefully not Edward. He just got that arm back.
>>
>>26624333
A searing pain explodes in Scott's head as blood drips down from his nose. Gritting his teeth and closing his eyes, the scout commander feels a foreign presence invading his mind. Like a great hand pressing down on his head, the foreign presence seeks to overwhelm and crush Scott's own mind. Marshalling reserves of will he didn't know he had, Scott manages to push the invading presence OUT before more damage can be done. With a startled gasp Scott's eyes fly open once more and the psychic attack fades.

"Uh... Scott? You OK, bud?" Burton asks.

"Sorta..." he says.

>Scott loses 1 Wound, but suffers no further effects.
>>
>>26624650

I think our Spectre buddy is attempting to hide and attack from afar using psionics while he recovers.
>>
>>26624650
Good thing Scott has that +10 against mind effects.
We've got to find that Spectre before he can wear us down with psionic attacks.

Scott, see if you can recover those Sentry Guns and the M56; put them back in the Luggage for now.

Also, if we're going to finish this race, might want to ask Sylph to make a copy of the Fireman Flashdrive and get a copy back to Task Force 38. Maybe she'll even have a laptop to view the contents.
>>
>>26624650
Spectre's going Psi-Ops on us. That probably means he's got line-of-sight. Warn everyone. Armstrong, is it safe to take out some of these buildings? If the Spectre's using psychic attacks none of us have true defenses against it, so he's gotta go down fast. I'd rather a few empty buildings get demolished than Scott's head exploding.

FFP, get on that frequency the Ghost gave us back in AvP World and see if we can get some counter-sniper action going on... Or if she can at least point us in the right direction to start taking shit out.

At the very least perhaps Armstrong can give us some chest-high walls or something to further break any line-of-sight he may have on us. No reason to make it easy on him.

He's getting desperate, folks. Just a bit more to go...
>>
>>26624650

Psychic attack!

The Spectre is hidden and trying to kill us with mind bullets.
>>
>>26624797
We already checked via the Racer Cards if the Spectre was nearby, and he's not. Destroying the buildings would only let the Spectre do his attack from farther away and with more places to attack from by eliminating buildings that block line of sight from further away buildings.
>>
>>26624650
Get the State Military folks to start searching the buildings for the Spectre.
Scott, you know the Spectre is distant; can you tell the direction?
Try walking around to see if he gets farther or closer when you walk in a certain direction.

Scott drinks another potion, the stock of which is dwindling fast. He motions to Armstrong.

"Major! There's a sniper left in one of the buildings! Can you get your troops to start sweeping the area?" Scott calls from cover.

"Of course! You men, come with me! You over there, organize into three squads and start checking the buildings on that side!" the Major says, letting Elyse go of his embrace at last. The crusader almost collapses, woozy after the overzealous show of respect.

"If that's what he does to his friends, I'd hate to see his enemies," Elyse says.

"Sylph, when you've got a moment I've got a flash-drive I need you to get back to the Task Force!" Scott calls. "Fat, get that Ghost on the horn!"

"I'm on it! What do you want to ask her?" Fat says, activating the commlink again.

"Get her hunting that Spectre if you can!" Scott says.

"All right... Yeah, I've got her. Hey miss Ghost, just so you know, that Spectre i- oh, you know? Oh, all right. Do you know where he is? No? Darn," Fat says, putting the commlink down for a moment. "Commander, the Ghost says she's already tracking the Spectre but hasn't found her yet. Anything else to ask?"

"Pretty much everyone you have, I think. Fat told me a little of what happened on the short walk here," he says. "At this point we've pretty much met all the 'contestants."

"Ooooh! The Ghost says she found him! She's driving him towards the advancing soldiers!" Fat speaks up.

"Good time to recover our stuff then. Come on, double time!" Scott says, getting up and running to the discarded and damaged smartgun. Charlie and Elyse dash to the sentries, their ammunition long since depleted during the fighting, and begin to haul them back to the trained mimic. The sounds of fighting persist, then grow more intense before stopping altogether.

"Miss Ghost says he's fleeing, heavily wounded," Fat says, looking up from the comm. "He managed to knock out most of the soldiers and killed a few, but Armstrong and herself managed to seal the deal."

"One less thing to worry about," Scott says. "I guess that wraps it up for this battle."

"Thank the Light for that," Elyse sighs, leaning on a building.

"Yeah, I could really go for a smoke," Charlie says, searching his pockets.

"If you find two, I get one," Scott says.

Otherwise, stay in cover, and wait for the State Military to finish securing the area.
Do we know if this is the last world? If it isn't then we might want to keep the plasma caster in case it can be repaired in the next world. Otherwise, we should try to barter with Sylph.
>>
>>26629720

You guys might want to go see if you can get some rest, or those wounds treated quickly. While it's imperative that you guys try to finish the race, I'm going to guess that opening the gate won't be an easy procedure to withstand or to overcome.

"That's a goddamn good idea. HEY YOU! I'LL PAY TRIPLE COST FOR A SMOKE!"

A few minutes later, Scott and Charlie have their faces stuffed with cigarettes, with goofy smiles on their faces.

"You two look like idiots," Elyse and Burton say in unison.

"HAPPY idiots," Scott says, his words muffled by the ten cigarettes in his mouth.

It's another half hour before the military declares the area secure. Mustang himself arrives to survey the damage. As soldiers secure the rubble, debris, and fallen, the now veteran soldier sighs.

"I suppose that could've gone a lot worse from what I've heard. Just sorry I couldn't be here in person," he says.

"Yeah, what was the hold up? We really could've used your flame alchemy," Scott asks. Mustang waves him off.

"Never you mind. More importantly what do you plan to do now? Apparently I've got to keep an eye on all of you racers while you're in my city or... well, things like this happen."

"I was thinking rest, maybe a meal," Scott says. "Not much to do while waiting for our little problem to be fixed."

"I'll provide rooms and food free of charge at a nice hotel on one condition," Mustang says, stooping to pick up a destroyed chunk of gun.

Sounds like a plan. Sylph needs to scoot to the Taskforce with that flash drive; and don't forget to send a note along with a tl;dr version of our current events. See if she's got some sort of tracking beacon we can keep with us in case they need to send something back to us. Also, sign off on her invoice for the rest of the payment for that sword.

Now, food, rest, and everyone can coordinate what needs to be coordinated. Maybe get an Alchemist to see if they can repair the Smartgun? If it wouldn't give them too many ideas, that is. Canon stability and all.

>>26630565
I agree that we should make it clear that if the Spectre pops up we'd most likely have to act. We'll do our very best to give a heads-up if that happens... Can't let nearby innocent lives be risked if we can help it. That's not how the Guard or the Crusade operate.

I only made it here using a series of very experimental machines on loan to me for testing from... well, that's not important. Ah, you may not be aware of this. Wherever we are, it's far beyond the current area patrolled by your Guard. If you proceed here... I can't guarantee any sort of support."

Sylph pauses. "Also... ah, there have been some developments you might want to know about since you've gone missing. Well, wait. How much do you remember?"

>>26630777
"I can do that much at least, certainly. My courier fee is most reasonable."

"Nothing that will reach the Guard from here. This entire area seems to be cut off from the worlds the Guard patrols, either by distance or... well, something else. "Ah, good," Sylph smiles. "Most of us who were present at the battle remember the original timeline, but the reality machine... re-organized most of the timeline. Most of the changes were good, but there were unexpected consequences."

Sylph frowns. "The Transpace Guard's maps... and even my own network of contacts and the TSAB's navigational charts have been rendered useless. Time-space seems to have been shuffled around, with much of what was mapped now unknown again. Ah, this hasn't proven catastrophic, mind. Most of the worlds with outposts had communications arrays able to communicate beyond the barrier between worlds, and it's just a matter of re-organizing everything. However, some places seem to have just vanished, with no one ever having being assigned there in the first place, and no one having discovered it either! Due to the works of Eclipse Phase for example, we know it's out there somewhere, but no one has coordinates for it anymore."

Sylph grimaces. "...also Task Force 38 is due to be disbanded. With all threats currently contained, it's been decided to divide up the veteran troops and commanders and assign them elsewhere to help train and command the new generation of soldiers."

"Well..." Scott says, a little slack-jawed at the massive drop of information. "That... that's pretty bad."
>>

>>

I thought it was reasonable. I vote for the healing potions, a couple of PD, some energy tanks, and a couple of mana potions for Elyse. How does a Lightsaber compare with Elyse's current sword? Negligible weight obviously, but in terms of damage and whether or not she would break the first rule of a Jedi with it.

Also, really sad 38 is gone.
>>
>>26632199
Can we get a short range version of the Starcraft Psi-disruptor that is attuned to Spectres?
>>
>>26632269
"But Task Force 38 was so effective... Why disband it?" Scott asks.

"They can always re-form it if there's a need. No one's leaving that wasn't going to leave already, though a great deal of your heaviest hitters were essentially only signed on until the end of the crisis," Sylph says. "I think it somewhat strange myself, but I can at least see the thinking. Until another threat arises, it's more productive to have your old commanders teaching the next generation to be just as effective as they were.Though... I will add that another unforeseen consequence of the device was that things are almost TOO perfect. There's an attitude that nothing can wrong with some of your officers I've noticed. Then again, maybe I'm just a little too used to seeing the worst happen."

"I guess," Scott frowns. "What about me?"

"Don't worry, I checked your file. They still want you on field duty."

"...goddammit."

Scott is already wearing armor that has shields built-in, though it's been so long since they had a charge that you could be forgiven for forgetting about them.

Charlie would be a better choice to getting the T-45d.
But even then, we have to consider what else we end up not being able to buy.

>>26634220
Scott, remember that your suit has Ablative Armor; ask if it and Charlie's armor can be repaired in exchange for one of the Sentry Guns (no ammo).
>>
>>26634287

yes, but the T-45 is powered armor, Scott's appears to be plating and shield emitters.

Power armor makes you go faster longer.

"Eh... sorry, no," Sylph says with another short bow.

>>26634253
"Sylph, do you mind if I have a look at that ALICE suit?" Scott asks.

"Certainly. If you end up getting it, I'll require a payment of one card, and a later payment of up to 10,000G," Sylph says, motioning to the store. "This way."

Inside the store, in a small room in the back, is a large exoskeleton armed to the teeth.

"That'd be her!" Sylph says.

The T-45d and the ALICE have on-board computers, right?
And radio's too, right?

And one of the remaining Racers is Radical Edward.

I don't see this going well for us.
>>
>>26634383
"ALICE does, but I don't think the T-45d has a radio or true on board computing," Scott says.

Good point.

Plus, ALICE doesn't look too fast.

Sylph, do you have any Mass Effect hardsuits?

More specifically, if you have special inventory, do you have TF38 modified ones?

"HAD some..." Sylph says. "They... ah... sold out on the last stop I had. Sorry."

Or have those even come on the market yet?

Speaking of TF38 overstock, how about a couple pairs of their ART Specs, their enchanted Gauss Caster Rifle, or their enchanted MP5? With ammo, of course.
>>
Rolled 3

I guess a couple vials of RED-2-GENERIC would be too much to ask for.

Alright, the ALICE suit is out because it can get hacked.
And as nice as those ART Specs are, we do have to worry about Ed. Though at least they can just be taken off if she hacks into them, and they do come with an Autistic Mode that shuts down their communication suite.

Let's start getting a price list together of the items so far offered so we can decide on what to get.
>>
>>26634527
"Ah, yes, I've got one or two pairs of ART specs. I don't believe I have the exact make as they did, but I DO have an enchanted Gauss rifle and a submachine somewhere in stock."

The ART specs are definite, I can't remember what the other two have enchanted though.

We also need to know how many and what kind of Caster Bullets will be coming with the Caster Guns. We've already said that they need to come with their regular ammo, but we also need to know how many Fireball, Slow, Gravity, and Anti-Magic Shells we'll get with them.

"I didn't say they were from your task force," Sylph says, wrapping her arms around her sides. "There are a few companies out there who like to experiment with combining this with that, and sometimes they run a little low on money. Then I show up."

"So what's it enchanted with?" Scott asks.

"The gauss rifle just has basic enchantments on it to have it hit harder and aim easier. Oh, and unlimited ammunition," Sylph says. "The submachine gun fires tiny bolts of electricity instead of bullets. That's pretty magical, huh?"
>>
Rolled 97

>>26634634

hmm... Odd question, but Sylph, do you have any actual Tachikomas?

Running in autistic mode they won't be able to be hacked, so that might be a good idea.
>>
>>26634802
Yeah, if they run in autistic mode, they'll be safe from Edward (unless she actually gets close to them somehow and engages a hard link to one of their maintenance ports, which while unlikely, is the kind of thing she could do).

Also, if it's one of Section 9's that developed sapience, it might be considered a Follower and therefore count against our Party Limit, rather than being considered autonomous equipment like the Luggage.
Something to keep in mind.
>>
>>26634783
>Crate of Potions and Phoenix Downs - 2 Racer Cards
That should be 1 Racer card, she means she'll pay a crate for each.

ALICE is 2 Cards.

Sylph will include the ART Specs with purchase of the lasgun or the MP5 for 1 Card.

The Gauss Rifle is 1 Card.

>>
>>26634834
How many power packs does the lasgun come with?
>>
>>26634798
Gauss, Bio-Stabilizer, Crate, (not sure which 2/3 though) and Healing Pack are my choices. I don't want the disruptor anymore due to low range.
>>
Rolled 89

>>26634834

hmm....

The lasgun can hit like a .50 and recharge off of any electricity or even sunlight.

Is the MP5 unlimited ammo as well?

Since we're getting AR specs, Sylphie, do you have any Shadowrun 4 smartguns?

Specifically an FN SCAR-H3 with an integral suppressor, electronic firing, Smargtun system with all camera upgrades, a selection of ammo, as well as a bipod and sling?

Along with handline connections and a cryptosense module.
>>
>>26634834
>>26634855
Oh, the unlimited ammo gauss rifle combined with ART Specs would make for a godly combination, but a Tachikoma would be really handy with their ability to be a vehicle to ride on, their onboard cannon, and their ability to scale walls.

This is a really hard choice.
Though buying the Healing Pack for our lesser guns is an obvious purchase I think we can all agree on.

I wonder if we should get the Lasgun instead of the MP5.
Charlie is better suited for the MP5, since he said he's no good with energy weapons.
The MP5 would also be easier for Elyse to use as well.
But running out of ammo is something I'm worried about.

So, 6 WP, 6 HE, 12 Frag, 6 smoke, 6 flashbang minigrenades, 60 round magazines, 240 APDS, 240 Subsonic, 120 SticknShock rounds, and 180 EX-Explosive rounds in 13 magazines of 60. What's that run?

What do you have in terms of hand grenades, Sylph?
>>

Oh, and the SCAR's grenade launcher needs an Ammo Skip System and an Airburst Link. Forgot about that.

We could get the Shadowrun weapons, even without a smartlink they're pretty boss with mods and special ammo.

And the good ones have fun toys like integrated grenade launchers and airburst links and sometimes Multiple Round Simultaeneous Impact software.

It actually isn't that good, but it's stupidly long range, and it's intimidating as fuck.

It's only advantage over a VAC is that the VAC is SS and needs to waste precious mod space for SA while the Thunderstruck comes with SA.

We could also go for non-SR weapons, but those are the ones I can easily think of for good MP weapons, unless we want to get an Autistic only Huitzil that takes oral instructions only armed with a Gonryu and MP-LMG.

It's not an Enchanted Gauss Caster Rifle, but an Enchanted Gauss Rifle. If it could fire caster shells AND have unlimited ammunition... well you'd have to produce another mountain of diamonds to pay it off. Or just bypass the middle man and buy a "I Win the Game Automatically" ticket from Sylph.

That might be a long time in coming.

In the hotel, Scott and his group have a chance to rest up and eat, and possibly plan. There is also the matter of distributing hte new gear you have bought. With the repaired comm-link, you can stay in touch with Sylph for the duration of her stay here as well.

"I will use wish for glory of Mother Russia!" Zangief says, pounding the table for emphasis. "I wish for all the world to know we are best, most powerful country in world! For all children to be proud of their rich heritage! For all citizens to stand tall and strong!"

"I'm gonna wish that Ken Masters goes broke and then steps on a nail," Rufus says, laughing.

"What spectre? I see no ghosts racing for prize," Zangief says, taking a long, long drink from a cold steel mug. "Which man in suit? Oh, you mean the one that didn't die. And the one that didn't follow you, yes? He and his partner are very strange."

"Yeah, I can't figure them out," Rufus says, scratching his chin. "They tripped us up pretty nice with some of that mind mumbo jumbo, but they coul- I made it look like they could've killed us as part of a brilliant ploy. They didn't take it though."

"But I've seen them ruthlessly kill many minions of that slime Conti, and try to kill him as well," Zangief says, waving a turkey leg around. "They also kill big man with big gun, and earlier on, they almost kill invisible alien. He got away, though."
>>
>>26648399
"Ah, Conti. I think everyone can agree he was a slimeball. Too bad one of the locals, Roy Mustang, already beat everyone to the punch for that. Though Conti still seems to have had the last laugh by activating some kind of spoil-sport option.
"Big man with a big gun, huh? Wonder if that was Sam. Oh well."
>>
>>26648518
I hope not. Even if Sam was "Evil" he was still decent.
>>
>>26648518
"We didn't know name," Zangief says. "Had good laugh to see someone blew Conti's arm off, though. Too bad no one got the other."

"Yeah..." Scott says with a chuckle as his food arrives.

>If you are finished interacting with the other racers, I can move it to the next scene.
>>
>>26648871

I think we're good, unless we want to ask Burton more about how he progressed through the race.
>>
>>26648871
I'd like to talk with Burton a little, ask more in detail how Ed got into the lead.
Also if any other Racers get caught by the Amestrian Military.
>>
>>26648871
Let's ask Burton a question or two, like how he survived The Spy.
>>
>>26649035
When Scott returns to the room, he approaches Burton.

"Heya Burt."

"God, you know I hate that. Burton or nothing, I'm not a cloth puppet."

"Sorry. Anyway, can I ask you a few questions?"

"You're the commanding officer, not me."

"Good point," Scott says, sitting down on one of the beds. "Any other Racers get caught by the Military?"

"Only the ones I've seen since I got here with you," Burton replies. "The membership's really declined since this all began."

"I guess it has. How'd Ed get into the lead?"

"She doesn't fuck around. Well, she does, actually, I mean she dances from place to place or sings songs like she doesn't give a fuck. What I mean is that she tends to go straight from the entry point to the exit for each stage, and she's scarily intelligent on managing to find just the right path to take. Not to mention she managed to hack into that one cyborg for a while and basically use him to take all the heat off her while she dashed ahead. Mainly she just seems to be focused on racing. Everyone else is so worried about taking each other out to thin the competition and bothering with schemes and traps, the only one not bothering with that stuff is beating them all. It's sort of funny."

"What about you, aren't you racing?" Scott asks. Burton shrugs.

"I honestly don't care. I joined the race because I figured I wasn't doing anything else. I never really expected to win, just thought I should probably give it a try."
>>
>>26649592
"The Spy? That's easy. His knife hit an armor plate in my vest. I pretended to scream and collapse, and the confident fuck just waltzed off without even bothering to check if I was dead."
>>
>>26649685
>>26649703

How'd you make your way through the Oglaf-verse and the AvP-verse? It seemed like Conti and the Yaujta racer were intent on making everyone's lives a living hell during those runs.

Have you seen any sign of the other racers aside from us and the others that were forced to retreat during the Crystal Dragon battle? There should be at least two other racers who seemed fairly indestructible, seeing as how they survived bumping into the TF2 crew and a zepplin crash.
>>
>>26649685
>>26649703
"Oh hey, did you see Excel and Hayate? Those two are nearly indestructible. What about the OTHER Star Wars bounty hunter? The one that was partnered with an assassin droid till the Sorceress in the Oglaf Canon turned it into dust."
>>
>>26649703
That's believable---

Wait. The Spy's disguise only works with backstabs!
>>
>>26650174
"Where do you think the plate was?"

>>26650095
"Saw them? Yeah. I shot them with my Impact Cannon and they just fly back in the air about a few hundred feet, completely blackened. Saw 'em a few hours later they were fine. They stayed away after I shot them the first time, though. Couldn't have been pleasant. Had a fight with the bounty hunter. Couldn't land a shot on him with my cannon while he was buzzing around on his damn repulsors, but when he landed to steady a shot I managed to nail him in the chest then run. Didn't see the droid."

>>26650004
"Very carefully. Conti stayed clear of me, but he set up more than a few traps I had to slug through. Yautja boy almost had me, but then the Spectre showed up and he switched targets pretty fast. I booked it outta there."
>>
>>26650298
"Yeah, the bounty hunter in the flying power armor? Elyse fried him with a souvenir we picked up from the Sorceress' castle. Too bad it flew away, though. Would have been mighty useful to keep.
"Did you ever see what happened to that Ultramarine? And I think there was another Racer, another guy in power armor.
"Anyway, you learn any more about these ComTrader guys? They've got enough weapons, logistics, and tech to be their own Meta-Faction."

I think we need to determine if we keep Barton, or we tell him to hitch a ride with Sylph to get back to the Guard, so that at least one of us reports what's going on here.
>>
>>26650560
Voting for hitching a ride. That is, unless we know his wish.
>>
>>26650560
"The Sister of Butthole and Ultramarine never made it out of the alien hive as far I can tell," Burton says. "As for ComTrader, I haven't been able to poke around much given the race and all. From what I could gather during the party at the start they have an amazing amount of wealth which they've gained through careful management of inter-planar trading around here, which they have a monopoly on in some parts. A lot of things needed by one world might be common on another. Firearms and medicine are relatively easy to buy on say, Shadowrun-era Seattle. Ship them to a medieval kingdom and you can trade them for a lot more gold than you could cash. Post apocalyptic civilization struggling to survive? Supply them with loaned basic necessities, and when they're thriving again, notify them of their bill. That last example seems to prove they've been around a far time, and play a long game." Burton frowns. "It could be worse, though. They seem to operate by their own mercantile code of conduct as far as I can tell. Sort of like the Melnorme."
>>
>>26650717
"Hey Burton, what was your wish gonna be?" Scott asks. Burton blinks.

"Uh... I never really thought about it, to be honest. I guess I'd like my own planet, full of servants and limitless riches where I can spend the rest of my days in decadence, or at least until I purchase life-extension treatments."

"Well you sure think small," Scott dryly says.
>>
>>26650787
>>26650747
Eh, he could have asked for an arm of a galaxy, you know. The Transpace Guard's retirement package isn't bad, but you have to admit that it's not exactly the best, either.
And that kind of wish doesn't seem too bad since it would be limited to a single planet.

From what Sylph was saying, it doesn't sound like ComTrader has much dealings with the TSAB or other Meta-Factions we're familiar with, though they might still have some local branches under different names in IDPKB and Parallel Worlds territory.
>>
>>26650747

Given we weren't aware of them, we'll still need to get a task force out here to investigate possible meta contamination anyways, since we've never heard of these guys.
>>
>>26650787
Alright, I think that's all of the questions for now.
Though we should consider what Ed might be doing right now to try to get ahead in the race.
>>
>>26651422
She needs an alchemist in order to open the gate. Someone of extreme talent. Our resident sewer creeper? Maybe see Izumi if she's somehow in town. Mustang's got a 50/50 chance of having told us whether or not she's been to see him.

Alternatively, and more worryingly, there is the possibility that she's trying to learn Alchemy herself. Edward and Alphonse learned alchemy mostly on their own until they met Izumi, and we know that Ed is smart enough that she could conceivably learn enough to attempt the transmutation herself.

The rest of the day passes all swiftly as everyone eats and sleeps, a rare opportunity to do so in comfort.
>Someone heals 1 Wound due to the bedroll.

The next day, Mustang sends troops to fetch all the assembled racers to the First Laboratory, where a room has been prepared for them. Edward and Alphonse stand with Mustang and Armstrong around a large and complex transmutation circle at the center of an otherwise bare brick room.

"Well as it turns out, it wasn't as difficult as we thought," Edward says with a big grin on his face. "It turned out to be fairly easy to figure out how to use the Cards to open your 'gates."

"Obviously we haven't tested it yet, though," Alphone says, looking over the group with worry. "Are you SURE about this?"

"They're sure," Mustang says, arms crossed. "You'll pardon my lack of manners, but after the mess you've already caused, I'm a little anxious to see you on your way."

"We could be sending them to their deaths you know," Alphonse says, a reproachful look directed at the Brigadier General. Mustang scoffs.

"I doubt it. For people like these, things always seem to work out somehow. To some degree at least," he says. "I guess the only question left is who goes first?"

"We must all go!" Zangief says, pushing his way forward. "If one person goes first alone, they get unfair advantage. All go at once, the race continues fairly!"

"Boldly said, my friend," Armstrong nods. "As expected of a man blessed with exceptional and powerful muscles like my own."

"But if we do that and the circle doesn't work, we're all dead!" Elyse pipes up. "Or worse..."

"Hey if you guys wanna stay behind and let us have a bit of a lead, that's fine by me," Rufus says, walking up beside Zangief. "Whenever you guys are ready! Let's rev this baby UP!"

The Ghost wordlessly walks up to join the two street fighters.

"Guess that's our cue," Burton says, looking over to Scott. "Go big or go home, cap'n?"

>Let the others go first.
>Go together.
>>
>>26652724

Go together.

We can't risk time dilation shenanigans since we don't know what the fuck is happening with Ed.
>>
>>26652724
I'll wrap up this thread tomorrow when I get up. Was going to try and press on a bit, but anything I write now is going to suck.
>>
>>26652724
Go together.
Also, Scott should use the Magic Bedroll because he's got the lowest HP out of everyone.
>>
>>26653100
Someone wanted to try to haggle Sylph into taking the SCAR-H3 and the Dragon Slayer Sword for a Tachikoma (non-sapient or sapient).
Is that deal possible, has that ship already set sail, or is the Tachikoma simply too expensive?

>>26656397
A little bit of both, especially since you haven't fully paid for the Dragon Slayer yet. You put a down payment on it and then invoiced the rest to the Guard.

>>26654327
>>26653023
"We'll all go together," Scott says, stepping forward. "We'll all split up, and the truce wont' stop until we're all safely away from each other. That fair?"

The others slowly nod.

"All right then," Scott says, everyone taking positions in the circle. "Let's do this."

Alphone claps his hands and kneels, slamming them against the circle's edge as it flares with light and a single horrific eye begins to open down the center of the circle. Scott hears a metallic clang and barely glimpses someone jumping down from a ceiling vent before everything goes white.

The next moment, Scott, Elyse, Fat-Fot-Pot, Charlie, and Burton are in an endless expanse of white, standing before a great black metal door carved with a great mural of some sort. Sitting before that mural is a being that looks more like an outline of a man with a horrible, toothy smile.

"Hello," he says in a voice that sounds like many speaking at once.
>>
>>26658638
Ed probably was the one that jumped down the vent. Or the Spectre.

Scott, is that Wrath? No, Truth?
>>
>>26658798
"Hey, who are you?" Scott asks, stepping forward.

"Oh, I'm glad you asked that," the humanoid says, grinning wider. "I am what you call the world. Or perhaps the universe, or perhaps God, or perhaps all, or perhaps one, yet I am also..."

The figure points at the assembled racers. "...not you. Interesting. Welcome, you fools, to a place beyond you."
>>
>>26658798
Truth.
>>
>>26659102
"Well, this is another fine mess we're in. The others are nowhere to be found, and where's the big sign for the exit that we were expecting?
"Now, Truth, is that Gate yours or ours? Because we came here with our own. Or at least, should have."

Something's wrong; where are the others? Zangief, Rufus, the Ghost, and whoever joined at the last minute?
>>
>>26659300
"Oh, it's all yours, I assure you," Truth says. "Do you wish to pass? Go right ahead if you want to give me my choosing of toll. Or offer something. What would you sacrifice for this race of yours, hmm? How far are you willing to go to get ahead?"
>>
>>26659966
That wasn't part of the Race. This Gate belongs to ComTrader, the Truth shouldn't be able to demand a toll from us using a Gate that's not the Truth's.
>>
>26660026
Are you telling Scott to say that?
>>
>>26660468
Not yet, just thinking it over.

Though, I'll tell Scott to say this.
"If this is our Gate and not yours, why do we have to pay your toll?"
>>
>>26660540
"The Gate might be yours, but how do you intend to pass through without my opening it? How do you intend to leave here without paying the price for doing so? Everything you do has a cost, and this one must be paid up front," the Truth says, with some delight. "Did you really come here unprepared to pay? Did you think you'd just arrive at my doorstep and I'd wave hello and open up for you? Don't make me laugh!"
>>
>>26661293
"Mostly I thought that ComTrader created a pseudo-Gate that merely uses an Alchemist as the catalyst for opening it, and that you have nothing to do with it.
"This is ComTrader's Gate, and ComTrader's Race, and so it should be ComTrader's toll."

Scott, you still got your Racer Card? Is it reacting at all to the Gate? I wonder if the Card can open the Gate, since this Gate is generated from a Card.
>>
You want a toll.

I offer you my knowledge of the future of this canon. I offer to you knowledge of another Truth, much like you. Another world, much like this one.

Does that pique your interest?
>>
>>26661562
Sounds dangerous, to offer Meta Knowledge.
Though Truth is restrained to this Canon, and this is after the end of the series, which mitigates the contamination.
Definitely something to consider.
>>
>>26661657
Simply our knowledge of Full Metal Alchemist, both Brotherhood and the original.

Nothing more.

I believe he may be interested in knowing of another being of his kind.
>>
>>26661707
It still feels like he's being an opportunistic shitbag, though.
We were implanted with artificial Gates by ComTrader; we shouldn't have to pay a toll.
>>
>>26661707
>>26661734
Wait, wait. Shit.
Could this be another Ahriman at Rivendell situation?
Like, we're so focused on what our opponent is Canonically capable of, that we don't realize what he's REALLY capable of in the current location?
Like, we went to all that trouble getting Ahriman that Ring, when he was actually depowered the entire time. He didn't even have to bluff us, we simply assumed he still had his powers.

Maybe Truth isn't really needed to open the Gate, we just need to call his bluff.
>>
>>26661451
"ComTrader's Gate? Hmmhmhmhmhm. Perhaps. But what lies beyond the Gate? That is my domain. A domain you seek to enter. Even if this 'ComTrader' sought to circumvent me, they have failed, and the toll must still be paid."

"My card is reacting, yes," Scott mentally replies. "I have no idea how we'd use it to open the Gate though."

>>26661562
"Worlds outside my own? Interesting. You want your sacrifice to be the knowledge you have of this, then? Perhaps... Perhaps that will suffice. For you."

"Hey what about the rest of us? I don't know anything about these other places!" Charlie pipes up. Truth's grin widens.

"Well I guess we'll have to find something different for you, then. You seem a creature prone to various sorts of lusts... Perhaps your sense of taste? Or physical sensation?" Truth asks. Charlie blanches.

"Starting to think the whole Gate thing was a real, real bad idea, chief," Charlie says.
>>
>>26661916
"Yeah, except our destination isn't your domain beyond the Gate. We have a different destination in mind. So...you want us to pay you for going somewhere we're not intending to go? Does that sound about right?"

Should we just approach the Gate, see if the Card's reaction gets stronger and simply opens the portal?
I really think that the Truth is trying to con us here.
>>
>>26662049
"This is amazing! I've never seen someone haggle so fiercely for a free ride!" Truth says, laughing. "Anything that passes through one of these Gates enters, for however long, my domain."
>>
>>26662428
I don't like it. I still think Truth is bluffing.
Scott, examine the Gate closer; does it match what was in Brotherhood?
>>
>>26662629
Scott advances forward a little.

"No. The design is completely different. The tree design and the letters on it look..." Scott pauses. "...it almost looks like one of the potential models for Canon mapping that they taught us at the academy."

"Are we done talking? What a shame. When you get close enough to the Gate, I'll open it for you... and assuming you haven't chosen something else, I'll just consider myself free to pick something," the Truth says. "Just being here in this space requires a toll, after all."

"You're a poor excuse for a 'God'," Elyse says, her voice a low whisper as her eyes narrow at the belligerent being. "What use do you even have for such tolls?"

"They say the Truth is harsh and cruel, you know," Truth says, nonplussed by Elyse's comments. "Do you want to know why I take such tolls? I can grant you that knowledge and more. For a price of course."
>>
>>26662822
No, how about the Truth steps away from the Gate instead. If he's truly needed to open it, then us getting closer wont matter. But if he's been lying all this time, the Gate will open in response to our Card and let us through.
>>
>>26662822

Or, you're lying to us to try to get a toll from us that can and will be paid by our card.

I don't think you're telling us the actual Truth.

You're just trying to con us out of knowledge.
>>
>>26663118
Uhoh, don't say shit like this in front of the likes of Truth or Ravel!
>>
>>26663118

As well, as you've done before, the Cards contain the toll we need to pay, so why not just accept that instead of trying to take from us?
>>
>>26662822
Ask Truth to look at the cards as proof of what we're saying.
>>
>>26663568
>>26663580
>>26663118

"Ooooh, so you want to offer up your Card to pay for the toll?" the Truth asks, turning his eyeless gaze on the card Scott holds up. "I think I can accept that."
>>
>>26663745

Not the entire card, but I believe there is something in it specifically for you.

I'm not sure what, but I doubt that the organizers did not see the eventuality.
>>
>>26663745
Just the toll inside it meant for you not the entire card. So far ComTrader has know what they were doing, I doubt they would have overlooked this.
>>
>>26663745
Yeah tell him this in >>26663784
>>
>>26663784
>>26663816
The Truth laughs. "Perhaps they know what they are doing, but do you? I will accept your cards in order to proceed. Yours, Charlie's and Elyse's. You right, though, in that there is something in there that'd I'd say appeals to me. So I will take your cards."
>>
>>26663816
"And that DOES mean the entire card."
>>
I already offered Knowledge for Scott's toll.

>I wonder if Charlie can't just give an arm and a leg and let Elyse cast Regenerate on it.
>>
>>26664053
"Can't I trade you my knowledge instead of my Card?" Scott asks.

"Certainly, if that's what you want," the Truth replies. "I still need your friends' cards."
>>
>>26664494
I still suggest getting Truth to step away and for us to see if he does so or not, and if the Gate opens for us with the Card or not.
>>
>>26665174
>if the Gate opens for us with the Card or not

That doesn't sound right, if Truth and the Gate are part of one whole thing.
>>
>>26665264
Except that they're not necessarily. This is an artificial Gate created by ComTrader, while this is the native Canon's Truth.
The murals on the gate show that it most definitely is not the one from the anime or manga series.

You're lying. Alphonse's body existed in here without a toll. As well, Edward Elric was able to approach his gate within arm's reach without it opening before he revealed what he was going to give up in exchange for his brother's body.
For you to be pushing this hard for us to give you something before approaching it means you have no control over the gate. Otherwise we'd be able to walk directly up to it without a problem. Unless we can, which means you'll have no problem letting us walk up to it, and it won't open.

Yellowman, look for the Back Door. It's usually over there.

Burton, Charlie, or Elyse should be able to answer since they were at the big buffet in the very beginning when the race was announced.
