You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

As you prepare for school, you reflect that it’s now been just over three weeks since your suicide attempt (which was either dramatically successful or dramatically unsuccessful, depending on how you look at it), but it seems like much longer. You’ve remembered to pack the notes for your completed Biology project, just in case Mr Coombs decides to call for them to be handed in two days early. It’s the sort of thing he’d do. Four weeks ago your notoriously scathing Biology teacher would have been the scariest thing you’d deal with all week. These days, with werewolves, demons, undead kings, ancient forest Fae, and the occasional brush with your dark side personified, he doesn’t even make the top ten.

You run over your current list of goals in your head. You promised to assist Miss White, the substitute History teacher, with sorting out the notes left behind by your usual teacher during his leave of absence. You have to make sure your Biology project is handed in on time, and possibly hold it over Isabella’s head until then. You have to figure out a way to help Zack Stewart, one of your schoolmates who happens to be an unwilling werewolf. You have to work out what on earth to do with Ajani and his amateur monster-hunters gang. Oh, and you should probably help out Jill (your best friend, and also your... girlfriend’s girlfriend? Co-partner? Something...) with the three geases the King of the Spring Court of the Fae laid on her – to bring him the crown of the King of the Winter Court, to bring him the heart of the Corrupter demon that’s been lurking around town, and to protect Avril.

You should probably add “look up the correct terminology for complicated relationships” to your list as well.

What do you want to focus on first?
>>
>>26642149
[]Helping Jill. She’s your best friend, she should be the priority here, and she’ll need all the help she can get.
[]Sorting out the History notes with Miss White. That needs to be done before Tuesday’s lesson, so it’s the most urgent one.
[]Finding some sort of cure or treatment for werewolves. Avril said she had some, but they were all unfeasible in the short term or horribly dangerous. Maybe you can do better.
[]Dealing with Ajani and his friends. They could get really in over their heads if you don’t keep an eye on them. Or they could become a serious threat to you and yours.

It IS Monday right now, so it's got to be done today.
Though we'll help Jill and Zack if time permits; Ajani will simply have to fend for himself for a little longer.

Uh, as far as I recall, we didn't make a promise. Just said that we would help when possible. And didn't Avril say something about not everything being binding?
>>
>>26642650
((Ah, delicious paranoia. Not everything is a magical Fae contract, you know. And in regards to actual Fae contracts, Avril told you they're binding when there's a fair or agreed-to-be fair exchange between the two sides. They don't necessarily have to be formal contracts, though.))

You drop by Miss White's office before school, to apologise for not having the time to see her on Saturday and to let her know you can help her out with Mr Miller's notes at lunchtime.

Miss White smiles, running her hand through her long, blonde hair. "Thank you, Chris, and don't worry about the weekend. I ended up fairly busy myself." She gestures to the office around her, most of its flat surfaces covered with haphazardly filled folders. "I'm not sure lunchtime alone will give us enough time to work through all of this, but I've made a bit of a start already, and we can finish things off at my house after school, if that's all right with you. I really must find an appropriate way to repay you for helping me out. Oh, and how is Jill doing? I'd still like to talk to her at some point, you know. Give her my side of the story, properly."

"I'm sure she's interested in hearing your side of the story. She could maybe do with a bit of cheering up, too. Rough weekend."

Miss White turns, rummages through her desk drawers, and pulls out... a strawberry lollipop, which she hands to you. "Not much, I know," she says, "but it's better than nothing. I hope strawberry is still her favourite."

You chuckle, taking it carefully. "Yeah, it is. Thanks, Miss White."

"You can call me Miranda if we're not in class, Chris. You are effectively my teaching assistant, after all. Now go on, you'll be late for your first class."

She's right, and you certainly don't want to give Mr Coombs a good excuse to yell at you. You hurry off to Biology, slipping the lollipop into an inside pocket where it will be safe.

Mr Coombs glares at you as you arrive, just before the bell, but before he can properly rebuke you the bell rings and then Ajani and James burst into the classroom together. He turns his ire from you to the actual late arrivals, spending substantially longer explaining to them the importance of not disrupting the lesson by coming into class late than any actual delay their arrival caused.

Once the lesson begins, Mr Coombs brings out a large tray of frogs, apparently still twitching. "Today," he announces, "you will begin to learn the practical applications of biology. It is all very well being able to identify bones and muscles on a chart, but a good biologist must be able to identify them in vivo as well."

James raises a slightly shaking hand. "Sir, wasn't dissection removed from the curriculum years ago?"

"Wait to speak until acknowledged, Hunter. And while it is no longer required by the exam boards, it is not prohibited by them, and it is most certainly required by me. Pair up and begin your work, according to the list of incisions on your handout."

James is throwing frantic looks your way, and... huh. Isabella is sauntering in your direction.

You step quickly past Isabella and walk over to where James and Ajani are sitting.

"Would you like to work with me, James?" you ask over the beginning of Isabella's indignant protest. "Absolutely," he replies, hopping out of his seat and hurrying over to your table. You catch Ajani raising an eyebrow, his expression curious but not angry, before he turns back to his worksheet and you hurry back to your seat. Isabella is left standing between two desks, frowning at you. Then her expression turns to a vicious-looking smile, and she goes to sit by Ajani, who looks slightly uncomfortable but doesn't have time to find another partner before Mr Coombs begins handing out small trays containing a frog and a series of sharp metal instruments.

James quails as soon as the tray is placed in front of you. "This is really not my thing, Chris. The blood and the guts and everything. You don't need me to do any of the actual slicing, do you?"

"I guess not, but surely Ajani wouldn't need you to do the cutting either? He's seen more than enough blood and guts in his time."

James frowns. "I know, but... then he'd think I was weak. Vulnerable is one thing - he's got a hero complex a mile wide - but weak is another." He looks over at the frog, carefully picking up a scalpel, letting it hover over the frog for a moment, and then passing it to you. "I'm not weak. I'm just... delicate. I don't have the stomach for blood. But that's why I have friends like you and Ajani. You can take care of things like that for me. And in return I can take care of... other things." He grins. "Win-win, right?"

James continues to casually flirt with you for the rest of the lesson, but every so often you notice him glancing over at Ajani's table. Ajani seems to be studiously ignoring Isabella, but you're not sure if he noticed James' behaviour.

You wave to Jill and Avril, and beckon to them both. The three of you grab a small table to sit around, and you hand Jill the lollipop. "A little something to cheer you up."

"Huh? I don't think that... Oooh, strawberry. Thank you, Chris." Jill strips the lollipop of its wrapping and begins carefully licking and sucking on it, savouring the taste. "Mm, that's nice. You know, it's weird, but that actually does make things a tiny bit better. You're a genius."

"It wasn't my idea, actually. I stopped by Miss White's office before school, to talk about helping her with the History teaching stuff, and she gave it to me. She still wants to talk to you, by the way, tell you more about her side of the story."

Jill nods, her voice a tiny bit muffled by the lollipop she's still sucking on. "It's just a case of finding the time right now. I guess all that questing stuff is going to take up a lot of my time. And I've been feeling this tendency to stick around Avril a lot. It's not unbreakable, but whenever we're apart I get that sort of nagging feeling in the back of my head, like I've forgotten something."

"That must get pretty annoying. Avril, does your father expect Jill to just move out of her house or something? ... Avril." You wave your hand in front of Avril's face - apparently the sight of Jill carefully sucking and licking a strawberry lollipop is quite distracting. You've been trying not to look yourself.

"Hmmm? Oh, sorry Chris. I don't know, he might. It's not like a geas is supposed to be easy to follow. I, uh... guess it'd be a couple of years before your mother would let you move out, Jill?"

Jill scowls. "I doubt my mother would ever approve of me moving out, where she couldn't keep an eye on me to watch for sin. But in a few years I'll be able to move out whatever she thinks."

"Well, there's always little bits of rebellion in the meantime," Avril grins. "So, what are the two of you planning to do for the Leavers' Do?"
>>

"The what? Oh, right. Sorry, it totally slipped my mind. I hadn't been particularly planning anything, except maybe to get a nice suit for the day, but now that you mention it, would the two of you like to go with me, as a group?"

Avril smiles. "You read my mind, Chris."

Jill looks up at the two of you. "Wait, what about my mother? There's no way she'd agree to let me go to a dance with a boy. Or a girl. Or at all. Dancing is sinful, and there'll probably be alcohol and music and all sorts of things she hates."

Avril grins. "Well, we just won't tell her that's where you're going. I can give you a dress to change into afterwards."

Jill shakes her head. "She knows when the dance is. The school make a big point of it. She may be hateful, but she's not stupid."

"You've got to start standing up to her somewhere," you find yourself saying. "Tell her you're going to the dance. Don't let her argue you out of it. You can do it. Trust me."

Jill gives you a warm hug. "Thank you, Chris. I... I can try, anyway. I don't know how I'm going to explain about going with Avril..."

"Lie to her," Avril replies blithely. "It's none of her business anyway. You can just tell her you're going with Chris if that would be harder for her to argue with."

"We need to make it a special occasion," you say. "It would be our first proper three-way date, after all."

Avril just grins. "Oh, I think I have an idea or two."

Jill blushes. "That would be nice. And I guess we ought to have a three person date eventually."

Avril hugs you both. "It's a plan, then."

The three of you get to work on your Mathematics exercises, all smiling happily (and Jill still sucking on her lollipop in a distinctly distracting fashion).

You breeze through German in a bit of a daze, and head over to Miss White's office. As you come in she waves from behind a large stack of paperwork. "Hi, Chris. Just start with that pile, okay?"

Sorting through Mr Miller's incredibly disorganised notes is dull work, mostly consisting of matching together similar looking papers. It doesn't help that you keep catching glimpses of Miss White out of the corner of your eye, her long blonde hair let down and flowing over her shoulders. She looks gorgeous, and you know that Avril wouldn't mind at all... Your mind starts to drift from your work a little.

"Uh, Miss White -"

"Miranda, please."

"Okay, Miranda. What's the deal with you and Jill's mother, anyway? I know she said you were sinful, but there's a lot of things she thinks are sinful..."

She laughs. "And I've done most of them. I was around Jill's age when, well, I saw all the lies and hypocrisy around me. After that, I did everything I'd been told to avoid. I had quite a wild time." She looks off into the distance, licking her lips a little as she reminisces. "And in the end, no divine punishment, no wages of sin. Just having a good time, experimenting. Discovering some interesting tricks." She licks her lips again.

"Okay, but what's Mrs White's problem? Is it something to do with Jill's father?"

"Jill's father ran off with another woman when Jill was young, but the trouble started before that. All that repression, the dread of natural, healthy activities like sex. It's not good for you. I don't think she was ever all that stable."

"What did you do after you left? Were you cut off from your whole family?"

"Oh, there's not much of our immediate family. Jill's mother and I didn't have any other siblings. After I left, I did all the usual things, went to university, got a teaching degree. Had lots of university experimentation." She grins. "Any other questions? Anything at all?"

"... What colour are your underwear?"

Miss White affects a shocked expression, then laughs. "Oh, such a thing to be asking your teacher. And I can't possibly give you an answer. After all, I'm not wearing any underwear in the first place." She grins widely.

Lunch is almost over, and you're barely half done with these notes. Miss White smiles at you. "Remember, we need these sorted before tomorrow. Come to my house tonight. I'll cook you some dinner, even. You’ve still got my address? Excellent. See you later.”

You head to Geography, wiping a little bit of sweat from your forehead. Zack’s not here today. Presumably he’s still worried about what happened on Saturday. You grab your usual seat next to Jill and Masami. Masami was giggling a moment ago, but stops as she sees you sit down, and blushes instead. "Hi Chris. So, uh... the three of you are going to the dance together? That's really sweet." She smiles, and you glance over at Jill, who shrugs. "I had to talk about it with *someone*. And Masami already knows pretty much everything, doesn't she?"

"Yeah, I guess. Hey, what were you two talking about on Thursday, by the way? You never did tell me."

Masami blushes again, but Jill just smiles. "Oh, come on. I can't spoil the surprise yet. You'll see."

"You've been learning from Avril far too well. What's the work today?"

"More stuff on the rainfall cycle, I guess." You pause the chatter for a while as Mr Stokes delivers a fairly interesting explanation of erosion and weathering, and get started on some exercises from your book.

"Are you doing anything for the Leavers' Do, Masami?" Jill asks.

"I'm not sure yet. I mean, I have so many friends now, but I don't think I can go with any of you... I'll work something out. It's just nice to finally be making friends." She smiles shyly. Jill gently takes Masami's hand, turning to look into her eyes. "Chris, Avril and I may be going together, but I'm sure you'll have a date too, Masami. There's plenty of guys and girls who'd love to take you to the dance."

Masami looks down at Jill's hand on hers, slowly rubbing her fingers against Jill's, then breaks away, turning back to the textbook. "That's very kind of you to say, Jill. I hope you're right."

"Oh, Jill, you remember Miss White wanted me to help out with History? I'm going over to her place tonight to finish things off before the lesson tomorrow. Arnything you want me to ask?"

Jill thinks, then shakes her head. "I'd sort of prefer to ask her in person, Chris. No offence, just that it's all fairly personal stuff."

Jill waves you goodbye as you head home, changing out of your school uniform and into some fairly smart clothes and letting your mother know where you'll be going. She's extremely proud that you've been asked to help out with teaching a class, and doesn't ask much about Miss White except to check that you know where you're going and have your phone on you.

You take a breath mint and walk up the driveway to Miss White's house. It's not a giant mansion or anything, but for someone on a substitute teacher's salary, Miss White isn't doing too badly. She's waiting at the door when you knock, dressed in a fairly conservative white dress which nevertheless manages to cling to all her curves. She shows you into a large living room where the remaining folders are laid out on a large coffee table in front of the sofa, and fetches some tea, biscuits, and some cocktail sausages as snacks while you get to work sorting out notes.

Miss White continues to be very distracting. Her dress isn't low-cut at all, but the two little bumps poking out at chest level leave no doubt about how close to her skin it clings. You're very glad you're working sitting down.

After an hour or two Miss White smiles, stretching her arms up and behind her head. "We're just about done already..Thank you ever so much for your help, Chris. I really do need to think of some way of repaying you for all the help you've given me." She gives you a knowing smile. "Do you have any ideas?"

this should be a good enough tease to see what she has in mind.

Please bear in mind that sex is probably going to mean another hunger and a hunger for our best friends Aunt is maybe not the best choice.
>>
>>26648650
well my thought is that we never quite go all the way with Miranda.

Our style would be to let her think she has us wrapped around her finger, follow her all the way to the edge, then leave her hanging.

That kinda power sounds like fun to me. Lets get her all into us but never deliver
>>
>>26648664
...goddamnit...can we just get Miranda to seduce Jill and Avril too?
>>
>>26648650
We're not actually shagging Jill yet, so she has no good excuse to be pissed off, and Avril will probably congratulate us. Court of fertility and growth, after all.
>>
>>26648692
good point

No, she could well be pretty pissed since she has openly admitted several times that she has/had a crush on us. Not to mention pre-ambling a threeway relationship between us.

Although Avril will probably be pic related.
>>
>>26648692
we dont need to be fucking her. we have accepted we are in kind of a relationship like a hundred times.

>>26648699
no, its not.
>>
>>26648692
Unless she was planing to shag us after (during) Leavers' Do and us being her aunt's sloppy seconds is a deal breaker for her?

Just throwing it out there.
>>
>>26648692
...however, just because we are not shagging Jill doesn't mean that we don't owe her a level of commitment.

We just need Jill to move in with her Aunt, and slowly develop succubus powers of her own
>>
>>26648461
"do you mind taking Jill under your wing a bit?
Living with her mother is getting worse for her by the day"

>>
>>26648986

Maybe it's sort of like an addiction? We only noticed it after we had been banging her regularly for a while.
>>
>>26648986
Quest Mistress

Although i dont believe MH has revealed thier sex yet. They said they have a husband, but also alluded that they might be a gay male or something.... pretty sure its a woman though, judging by how MH writes OOC
>>
>>26648872
And if she aggressively comes on to us and actually starts using supernatural powers to make us bow to her will?
What then?
>>
>>26649024
no, remember the first few threads. we were quite aware of the unusual desire.
>>
>>26649073
Then the fun starts, and we might break Jill's aunt a bit.
>>
>>26649073
then we shot her down and make her beg like a bitch with our cooler than a stone attitude and ordering power. nothing we havent done before.
>>
>>26648834
You stand up, casting your eyes over Miranda again as you do. Her dress may not have a plunging neckline, but it's clinging tightly to her body, from her shoulder to about halfway down her thigh, and it's only held up by two fairly thin shoulder straps. The thin straps, and those two little bumps at chest level, don't leave much room for doubt about Miranda's bra. Or lack thereof.

Miss White - Miranda - stands up with you, standing very close indeed. You can feel her breath on your neck, warm against your cold skin. You smile at her, a deep, knowing smile, much like hers. "Well, that depends, Miranda... what colour underwear are you wearing now?"

Miranda lifts one arm to her shoulder, sliding the strap of her dress down. Then she takes your hand with her other arm and lifts it to her other shoulder strap. She leans forward, her voice breathy in your ear, her chest pressing against yours. "Why don't you find out? Maybe I'll surprise you."

You slowly, teasingly, slide her remaining shoulder strap down her arm, your fingers brushing across her skin. Miranda lifts her arms out of her dress and crosses them behind her head, her dress sliding off her. Beneath it her skin is smooth and bare all the way down. "Mm... I did say I'd be very, very grateful to you. How should I start thanking you?"
>>
>>26649073
Then we contest her rolls, and let the dice fall where they may.

Its all in good fun either way.
>>
>>26649103
just quitly admire her for a moment. "you can start by dressing up for now." then >>26648586
>"i'll not be collecting on that debt for now. i like having strings on my hand for later use"

>>26649103
ask her to teach Jill some things
>>
>>26649103
"Get down on your knees... Tell me how grateful you are. Tell me what you would do to hear me say "good girl"..."

Then we listen to her, take her by the chin, bring out lips just an inch off hers, then turn turn around and walk away.
>>
>>26649104
>>26649093
>>26649102
Contest our powers against a fully matured succubus? You really seem to have a high opinion of us.

>Its all in good fun either way.
This kind of attitude annoys me, because it's the same attitude of someone who triggers a trap that just about TPK's the party, just because it would be "good fun".
>>
>>26649080

I meant our desire for Avril. I know we have had a need to control since we started. We chose it after all.

Could be entertaining. Especially if it leads to us acting against the forest.
>>
>>26649591
Im sure at the very least, it would only be a temporary set back
>>26649680
right? Story wise, its excellent material. Its like, some people are so focused on the destination, they forget to enjoy the path they travel.

I enjoy overcoming the challenges MH gives us
>>
>>26649680
Alright, then how do we survive getting on the Fae King's bad side? Just staying out of the forest isn't going to cut it, since he can get mortals to hunt us down.
>>
>>26649738
>it would only be a temporary set back
So we can't ever actually fail? There's no chance at a game over, then?
>>
>>26649751
Well, obliterate the court or at minimum depose it's king seems like a decent goal for the next arc.
>>
>>26649751
I dont think its really an option....

If we either dominate, or are dominated by Miranda, then we will have another supernatural attachment to Jill.

Jill is currently indebted to the forest, so.... idk. Maybe having Miranda help us is in turn helpful for Jill, who in turn helps the forest.

I do think we should convince Jill to move in with Miranda. Her powers would grow, as well as her confidence.
>>
>>26649851
Legally, unless you can prove that Jill's mother is abusing Jill, you can't do that. Sure, you can try, but how is that going to succeed against the police?
Because I doubt that Jill's mother is going to agree to it, and convincing her to allow it would require quite a bit of overt mind manipulation.
>>
why are you suddenly starting to conspire about how we would wage a war against forest faes? thereis no reason for that.
>>
>>26649893
It'd be an interesting story?

I don't want to be the forest's bitch forever.
>>
>>26649851
I would support relocating Jill only if we are in control of Miranda. Too many variables otherwise.
>>
>>26649851
.I do think we should convince Jill to move in with Miranda. Her powers would grow, as well as her confidence.

It would be better for Jill's mental state than living with her mother, certainly, but I'm still suspicious of Miranda. Her motives are unclear, and her appearance here is too convenient. If she were another psychic it might make some sense for her to arrive as Jill's powers emerge, but she doesn't seem to be. And while Jill's mother is definitely crazy, that doesn't mean can't be be correct now and then.
>>
>>26649891
hmmm, I admit i dont know the law.

Maybe Jill should move in when she turns eighteen? emancipate herself?

I just strongly believe Jill feels trapped in her own house, and belittled by her mother. unhealthy.
>>
>>26649902
Are you also the type that would challenge and strike the king in his own throneroom, even though the party is low-level?
You sound like it, at least.
>>
>>26649902
We're not the forest's bitch, though. We're bosom companions with the heir, and while her father isn't super fond of us, that can change over time- particularly if we complete these quests that we were going to have to do anyway.
>>
>>26649893
Whoa whoa whoa. Hold up. I kicked this off and I want to make it clear that I was only speculating about one of many possible interesting directions this quest could head in if we fuck things up here. I am not proposing that we just throw away an empire that we might end up controlling either directly or through Avril for no reason.
>>
>>26649902

Except that Avril has been our closest ally and to attack the fae would be to betray her.

Besides, we aren't really the forest's bitch. We're going on a little quest now only because Jill dun goof'd.

>>
>>26649917
I agree that we need to be suspicious of Miranda.
I think it's obvious she's trying to ensnare us with sex, and is probably a succubus of some kind.
I really think that us trying to turn the tables on her will, at best, amuse her for a little while (like a pro quarterback being amused at a high school football star before mercilessly crushing him), and at worst, will make her into an enemy who will use her powers and familial influence to turn Jill against us.

You lift one hand to slowly stroke Miranda's curves, admiring her body. Her skin is smooth and slightly pale, and she licks her lips invitingly as you cup one firm breast. She's extremely beautiful, and extremely enticing. But you feel a black tendril gently wrapping around your mind, holding you softly like an old friend. The need to take power over the situation, to dominate, to control. You gently remove your hand, putting it on Miranda's shoulder and gently but firmly pressing down.

"Get down on your knees, Miranda. Tell me how grateful you are. Tell me all the things you'd do for me, just to hear me call you a good girl."

Miranda is... inventive. And extremely good at describing what she'd like to do to and for you.She wasn't lying about having learned some interesting tricks.

As she looks up at you, heavily flushed, dripping wet, you notice that she's crossed her arms behind her back almost instinctively. You put two fingers under her chin, tilt her head up a little more, and lean down, giving her a long, passionate kiss. Then you stand up straight, smiling down at her with an evil grin. "I think I'll collect on that debt later, Miranda. Have a nice evening."

You feel flushed and invigorated as you walk home. Your skin is warm where Miranda pressed her body against yours, and you still have an image burnt into your mind of her bare, naked body. Your fingernails feel warm and slightly tingly. Your forehead is as cold as ever, but you still have to wipe a bead of sweat off it. But you were in control. Complete control. It felt marvellous. You really ought to see Miranda again, to see how far you can push her. It'll be interesting.

You slide into your warm bed, starting to feel tired from the evening's exertions. A soft, subtle "Good job" resonates in the back of your mind, but it might just be your own thoughts. It is in your own voice, after all.
>>
>>26650070

>>
>>26650342

>>
>>26650281
>nothing wrong with taking risk
Taking risk is one thing, but what about obviously stupid actions?
If you have a higher threshold for risk, that's fine; I'll disagree with you and we'll leave it at that.
But are you also willing to go one-on-one with the Ice King? Or the Corruptor? Maybe try to get into a duel of wits and etiquette with the Fae King?
Because I consider those beyond risky.
>>
>>26650281
There are risks and then there are stupid risks. On the whole, I feel that we take few enough risks at all that when stupid risk comes along, we seem to jump at it.

For instance: fooling around with Miranda, even if we don't fuck her. Jill may not hear it from us, but what's to stop Miranda from telling her? I for one don't want to get Carrie-ed.
>>
>>26650335
(('Introduction'? You mean her list of things she'd like to do to and for Chris, from the final post? Maybe. It might end up being Chris's fantasies inspired by what she said, though. A bare recitation has its limits.))
>>
>>26650361
>Miranda telling Jill what a naughty boy we can be to try to get her to be more like herself
Yeah, that sounds like something that would backfire 10 out of 10 times and lead to us getting Carrie'ed.
We haven't even gotten to second base with Jill; I don't think she'll look on it well if Miranda starts talking about how we've been seducing her.

>>26650281
Taking risks with an equally great payoff is fine, but are you sure that you've actually thought through just how risky some of the paths are?

Because I'm not sure if you have.
>>
>>26650360
You said it best, there is a difference between smart risk and stupid risk.

When it comes to facing down the Corrupter or the Ice King and Gunther, those are obvious stupid risk.

When it comes to this Miranda situation, the only controversy is just difference in opinion. Do we fool around and maybe piss off Jill? Or do we do something else.

You may disagree with my opinion, but that doesn't make it stupid risk. Just risk you are unaccustomed to.
