Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

>Last time...

<I didn't trek halfway across the world to stop here.> You glance at your companions. <I've kept airships in the air before. I can do it again. But I won't force any of you to stay.>

Abigail puts a hand on your shoulder. "I'm not going anywhere."

"As I said," Ila says, "I'll follow you."

Adavan sighs. "Well, technically, I'm already dead. Why not."

"It's not like I'd let Donny walk into the jaws of fate alone," Auriel says. "If we're going to do this, let's do it."

<...Donny?>

Flint's lips look thinner than ice in July. "...it's a pet name," he mutters.

<...Donny?>

"What?" Auriel says. "I think it's cute."

Abigail giggles. "You two are so perfect for each other."

"Are we going, or not?" Adavan says.

Flint, red as a beet, slams his palm on the button.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBA-1ENblN4

DESTINATION OVERRIDE CANCELED

HULL DAMAGE DETECTED

RETURNING TO DRYDOCK

The ship shudders again.

"Hold on!" Adavan calls.

"I should still be able to use the manual controls." Auriel stares at the red beacon on the map. "The guidance system gives me a heading, is all." The steel frame of the ship groans as it strains against the dirt that keeps it buried. "Shadow, do you see anything like that?"

You quickly scan the room. <There. Shields. And...that console says 'Main Weapons'. Um...power routing...there! Main control board!>

>con't
>>
Auriel drags Flint across the room toward the board you point at. "Ila, you take the shields, you've got good reaction time. Adavan, you spend any time in the air?"

"Once or twice, but never as part of a crew."

"Whatever, get on the weapons. Abigail, you take the power routing board."

"Ok, but I can't read anything!"

"Shadow can translate in a minute. Everyone just get in position!"

You follow Auriel up to the main control board near the glass viewport. She scans a table holding a rat's nest of buttons, knobs, switches, and dials. "...alright. Where's thruster control?"

You indicate a series of switches, quickly pointing them out. <Aft, Bow, Port, Starboard, Belly, Fin.>

"At least they're in a normal order. Alright." She flips the two outer switches under Belly.

Nothing dramatic happens. The ship rocks a bit. The reactor readout reads 95%.

"...the hell?" She flips the switches a few times, then pounds the controls. "Shit!"

"Hey..." Flint eyes a part of the panel. "Does that look like a hand, to you?"

"...it sure does."

Flint slaps his palm down on the handprint.

A seat emerges from the floor below with a snap, catching Auriel and lifting her up several feet to face a long window that's lined with more screens. The control board rises with her. "Well, guess that's on way of doing it!"

"You ok up there?" Flint calls.

All you can see is dirt shoved against the windows. "Yeah, the view's wonderful!" Auriel says. She taps a vertical line on one screen. All the numbers are flashing red. "Doesn't like our position. At least it knows we have negative altitude." She tries the thruster switch again.

The ship roars. Wind spins in the engine room. Auriel quicly flips the switch off. "Baby's still got it! See anything like sensors...internals...something like that?"

You point at one of the panels. <Internal scanners?>

"That's it." Auriel hits a button on the panel.

>con't
>>
Another floating map pops up, but this time, it's an image of an airship. There's dots everywhere, flying about, some in the airship, on the upper decks, but most on top of it, or above it. The ship itself is displayed in arcs of green. Some sections appear yellow, and a few are orange. One is red.

"Dots are people," Auriel says. "Big dots mean mages. Colored codes are for damage." Auriel nods, then turns back to her station. "...these have to be flaps...thrust power adjustment..." she fiddles a few nobs. "Ok, I think I can figure out the rest from here."

<What are our chances?> you ask.

"...normally, I'd want at least five people on shields, and a man on every individual weapon," Auriel says. "Not to mention some people in the engine room." She looks at you. "It's gonna be tight. Once you're done translating, let me know." She taps the screen. Many dots are definitely inside, the ship, now. Some are running through the halls. "Make it quick. We've got stowaways. I can maniplate all systems from here, if the others have to fight, but I can't do four things at once."

>con't
>>
You nod, then drop back down. You're able to figure out how to shift the focus of the ships shields with Ila. She picks it up quickly enough. Abigail is set on diverting and rerouting power, and Adavan knows how to bring up and target the weapons, though all he can see on his screens at the moment is dirt.

You return to the area under Auriel's raised platform. <We're as good as we're going to get!>

"Alright! By the way, I can see your boyfriend defending our reactor core! We might get out of this in one piece!"

It takes you a moment to realize she's talking about Vonnegut. He must have taken shelter in the ship.

"What should I do?" Flint asks.

"You're on guard duty!" Auriel says. "Shadow, seal up the entrances with dirt. That'll slow them down."

<Should I try to get it out of the way of the ship?>

Auriel shakes her head. "If we don't have enough power to punch out of this hole, then we won't get to Xile anyway. All that dust going up should give us a little cover, too."

<Alright, what about after?>

"We've got a lot of guests on a lot of exposed decks," Auriel says. "Do whatever you can to throw them overboard!"

What do you do?

>head for the upper decks and sweep
>stick to the lower hallways, clear them out
>go for the engine room and hook up with Vonnegut

>if no one has any complaints, you'll use 4 mana to seal up the control room as best you can

Earthforge to clear the ship from the ground.

Seal the Control Room.

Upper decks and sweep - we neeeed to be able to keep an eye on the angel/robot battle.

Ask abigail to send a summon across the lower decks.

Do the Illusion/Translate/Analyze combo on the controls that was brought up last thread.

Adavan to use his mind magic to keep everyone in link, and relay Intruder Positioning to the sweepers.

Get in touch with vonnegut, inform him of his position and tell him to hold the reactor, as well as making him aware of threats headed his way.

Let's review.

>Adavan to use his mind magic to keep everyone in link, and relay Intruder Positioning to the sweepers.

Don't worry, Auriel has an intercom and the internal sensors for that.

We'll get Abigail and Flint to switch. Flint will handle power routing, and Abigail will focus on summoning to clear the lower decks.

I'll let you cast the illusion to make all the controls legible for Mutlishade's mana cost, 3 mana.

You will send wispbro to check in with Vonnegut.

You yourself will head to the upper decks to take care of any new attackers and keep an eye on the battle.

<Wait,> you say. <We should take advantage of Abigail's summons. Flint, you take the power rerouting.>

You quickly instruct Flint in the particulars. Your illusion covers the labels over the parts of the ship, greasing the wheels for your new crew. You also order your wisp to check in on Vonnegut and make sure he's not doing anything stupid, and you seal up the whole bridge with your earthforge, leaving just a single entrance open.

>mana: 37/58

<Abigail, you sweep the lower decks. I'll take the upper.>

"Alright. Time to pull out the big guns." Abigail focuses hard. A ring of Spirit appears around her. You can feel a lot of power starting to build up.

Something steps from a portal. For a moment, you recoil.

It's a banshee.

Her figure is eerily similar to Abigail's - but she's twisted, warped. One eye is red and bulging. Long claws tip her fingers. Teeth like needles protrude from her jaw.

"Go to the lower decks," Abigail command. "Kill any robots and angels you find."

The Banshee screams. Everyone covers their ears. The concentrated blast of magical power takes out Flint's control panel, continues on, and then slams into one of earthen seals you made. The banshee storms through, dragging her claws along the steel. They dig through the adamantium without much trouble.

"Shit!" Auriel pounds the console. "Abigail, what the hell was that?!"

"Are you sure you have it under control?" Adavan asks.

"Um...sorry," Abigail whimpers. "It's under control...I just slipped, sort of."

"...our remote power routing is totally screwed. Flint, you'll have to do it manually from the engine room." Auriel sighs. "Well...just like old times."

"Sorry," Abigail says again. She visibly deflates.

<It's alright, Abby. Just focus.>

Flint pats her shoulder. "Oh, I'm an expert at this sort of thing by now. Focus on keeping the bridge safe."

"Right."

Flint looks nonplussed. "You know, I think I'm finally getting used to that."

<Let's move.>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t_59E37ndg

You reach the engine room.

There's practically a line to get inside. A crowd of robots is shuffling along the hall, forcing their way in. You feel flashes of water blasting them backward, and you can feel more men keeping them penned at the entrance, but they're starting to fall back. Above that, though, is the shrieking howl of the wind core.

More than one of the robots glances up when you and Flint approach. Several turn to face you.

<Flint. Stand back.>

Your tone brooks no argument. Flint stands back.

You lay waste to the robots.

It's like a dance, really. Dodge here. Morph there. Stab just so. Slice the steel. Bend the adamanitum. Crush their cores. Rip and tear. One blow, one robot. If you touch them, you ensure they don't stand a second time.

When you snap back to reality, only one robot is left - but you took a lot of hits to ensure none of them slipped by you. A sword charged with earth magic is sitting in your gut. The robot slashes downward, cutting you in half. You reform quickly, but the blow stings more than a little. You hit it back hard enough to crumple it against the wall, smashing its power core to bits.

>you've taken 18 damage (63/81)

You took no mercy, and nothing is left of the robots worth consuming.

You duck into the engine room. Your wisp zips back to your side.

"Hold up, boys! He's on our side." Vonnegut is standing behind a platoon of his own men, who are wielding everything from enchanted clubs to pickaxes. He gestures at you. "Glad to see you, Shadow. I hope you've got a plan to get us out of here. Something to do with that?" He jabs a thumb at the dynamo. thie wind is spinning like green fire within its spherical housing.

<This is Sir Donovan Flint,> you explain. <He's going to work the engine.>

"The engine?! We're flying this thing?"

<That's right.>

"Where are we going?

<As far away as possible.>

The ground rumbles. The ship shakes. Earth explodes against lightning.

"...yeah, let's do that," Vonnegut says. "Boys, keep that hall clear...for our good sir knight." Vonnegut's men form up around the entrance. A few take positions in the hallway itself.

Auriel's voice crackles in over the intercom. "Sensors show a lot of dead robots! Donny, you good to go?"

"Would you stop calling me that!?"

"Stop whining and get on the controls."

Flint splutters and pounds his way over to the manual switches on a wall. You translate the key words for him.

It's hard to move in here. The Wind is oppressive. It feels...draining.

What do you do?

We want the ship intact.
We want the dynamo
Flint deserves to keep his heritage.
having two airships (one working, one in need of repairs) for haven would go a LONG ways towards making it a respectable place - even the ringed city had two.

Our path is simple.

Take off, gun for the digging machine APC Robot, and steal it's power core for the noiralev. DON'T consume it, and then stall lucifer as best we can.

From last thread. If we want to keep the airship and make a getaway, we're going to need to make sure it 1) gets airborne and 2) Run interception so it doesn't get shot down and 3) rely on the skysever to protect our ship and hurt the angels and other fliers more than the wind core ship.

That means heading topside, and keeping shit off our ship while it gets free, and then getting the attention of EVERYTHING around it so they focus on us instead of the ship.

While I like pocket conceptually, you're making things up.
It's problem is that you can't look at it and go "Oh hey I know exactly when this will be useful!" - it's got a lot of creative uses, but those aren't significant or game changing.
I think it's pretty overpriced for what it does. If it cost less, I'd advocate getting it just so we have a hammerspace to store keys/Moonsong shards in. I'm honestly surprised we haven't lost any of those during combat yet.

You quickly heal yourself.

Flint talks into a speaker. "We're all set, Auriel!"

"Alright. Brace for takeoff!"

The engine howls louder. It gives you a headache. You leave your wisp in the room, but quickly head out and up to the upper decks.

You reach a wide intersection. Several halls lead in various directions - many of which are exposed to open air. With Abigail sweeping the lower sections of the ship, you hunker down to prevent anything new from boarding.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeuCjsfdlfA

The ship rumbles.

You brace yourself against the wall.

The wind howls. A field of it surrounds the ship, sputtering at first, then growing in intensity. The dirt is shaken lose, repelled, a natural element against its opposite. Dust fills the air as the vibration shakes the hallways.

"Time to punch it! Brace!"

The ship lifts into the air. You feel the acceleration press on you. It must be pretty intense for the humans.

You peer out you long windows to the outside, but you can't see anything. Your senses inform you of the tremendous battle in the air around the ship, but the dust cloud is shielding you effectively.

Ideally, we go full strategic in this bizzatch here.
Golem army+Pocket = pocket army
Project Noiralev from last thread = flagship, transport, haven portal link, rapid portal invasion and hotdrop capability.

And all that shit lets us kick ass while we're kicking ass on important shit somewhere else, and reduces the chances we lose the war, or get our friends killed.

>And where do you suppose we're going to acquire that? We can only make one at a time with the earth tree.
If that's what it takes, we can manufacture some here and there.
What we really should be doing is beating up city 002, getting Pocket, and battlefield salvage/repair/jacking their armies and using our earth tree stuff to reprogram them.

Go all john connor on their rocky collective hive-mind asses.
Solicit city 001 for help, offer golem production knowledge in exchange for being elemental allies again
make our own, or have a chosen do it for us (not the best plan, but a possibility)
Free geb, learn golemancy from HIM.
Recruit elvish artificiers, who are earth mages, and have THEM build it for us.

There's ways. Not all are fast or equally costing, but if there's a war on, holy hell do we want a Pocket Attack Squad that we can just drop off on someone who deserves it

----------
----------

You lunge forward with every ounce of speed you can muster. Your limbs form a circle of spikes centered on the robot's dynamo core.

You dig in about two inches. You press harder, and wedge in another inch. The armor is tough, and the enchantments keeping that way have a huge power source. Your claws widen, trying to split it open from the inside.

For a split second, you see it looking at you, it's head rotated 180 degrees.

Its fist hits you like a boulder. You're sent flying backwards. You slam into a steel support beam and hit the floor hard.

>you've taken 5 damage (76/81)

You stand straight. That hurt.

You didn't get the core, but you did some damage. You can see sparks of earth power snapping around where you grooved the armor. Still...it's definitely one tough bastard.

"Identified: Shadow Elemental. Major target for elimination." A little rod-shaped projection snaps up from its shoulder. "Locked on."

A beam of light and lightning rips across the ceiling, rending the whole wider. A gust of wind blows over you and the robot, which swivels to face the new threat.

Lucifer looms over the freshly-carved entrance to the airship. He stares at the robot. "The hell did you think you were going?"

You glance over the two individuals, and you decide that this little scuffle is a bit above your pay grade. You use Shadowmeld.

>mana: 18/58 (-8 from shadowmeld, +1 from regen)

With both of your opponents focused on each other, you easily blend into the shadows in a hallway just off the intersection.

Magic builds in front of Lucifer. You notice his weapon - a small warhammer in his right hand.

The shoulder-mounted rod of on the robot glows brown. A sphere of Earth collects on its tip.

A beam of Lightning and Light fires forward -

But a pinpoint line of earth slices forward, -cutting- Lucifer's beam. The magic explodes, leaving the intersection smoking. The hole in the hull is even larger.

Lucifer is gone.

And then he's behind the robot.

The machine tries to turn, but he's too slow. Lucifer has his hammer up. He slams it into the robot's head.

The machine flies across the room, but Lucifer beats it there. He smahes it back the other way, and he repeats this motion. Faster than you can follow, his hammer beats the robot around the room like a ragdoll.

The robot keeps trying to react again and again. It's just not fast enough to keep up. But it isn't stopping, or slowing down. Lucifer's physical attacks just don't do much damage. You note the robot's defenses and Lucifer's weakness both very carefully. A warhammer might not be the best choice for such a heavily armored opponent. If you could puncture the gaps between the armor...

You try to focus on Lucifer's movements. He's in one place in one moment, and just -there- at another location the next. There's a small spike of magic that occurs when he moves, but it's either instantaneous, or too fast for you to follow.

>con't
>>
>>26670610
Even if we COULD kill him, it'd still be fucking up the ship. Do you hate Flint's heirloom? DO YOU HATE FLINT?!?
>>
You realize the robot has given up trying to escape. It's letting itself be struck around, and it's building a spell. The dynamo at its core glows brighter.

Lucifer suddenly stops. You see him poised on the edge of the hole leading back outside, and then he vanishes again, warping away. The robot is up after him in a second.

The dynamo's spell explodes.

Dark Blizzard has gaps; We would need something that leaves none.
>>
Honestly, I kinda like Lucifer so far. Sure, he's a dickass, but half the people we know are major dickasses.

Interesting, Lucy has Fast Blink.

Fast Blink, boy.

So do we. Let's note this strategy so we can use it on enemies in the future.

He's a lightning mage. Lightning's probably the only element faster than shadow.

He's on a whole nother level.

I figured light would be faster because photons but SHADOWQUEST PHYSICS ARE BEST PHYSICS.
>>

AoE Nightblaze -may- disrupt his ability to blink/bend, it could be worth trying.

What about light? Hyperion probably has speed of light speed upgrade.

I'd suspect Wind to be pretty up there too.

Earth explodes.

---------
---------

>you've taken 14 damage (67/81)
>mana: 20/58

You come to. You're not sure how long it's been. You stand up.

An evening sun is shining down on you. You hold up and arm to block the light. You're outside?

No. Not outside. But you're on the edge of a huge hole blown in the top of the airship. It stretches down several decks, revealing intersecting hallways and stairwells. Snaps of magic spark at you where the wiring is broken and frayed.

"ShhKadoshw!" You hear Auriel's voice through a nearby speaker. It's distorted and warped by the damage. "Husltl damage iskh...we cashkt mskht hits!"

You get the gist. Stop the airship from being blown to bits.

You hop to the top of the hole to look around. You immediately feel dizzy.

You're standing on the edge of the airship, and you're high in the air - higher than you've ever flown. It isn't practical to go so high you can't land in a reasonable amount of time. But the airship has no such limits. The Great Forest stretches below you like a green rug covering the earth.

You glance up. Your eyes widen. The skysever is close. And it's huge - a massive, spherical cyclone of winds, big as a moon. You're hurtling straight for it.

You can see the airship's shields working to keep those forces at bay - wind fighting wind, forming a sort of translucent stream a short distance away. Touching it would probably be a bad idea.

An explosion makes you turn. The robot is flung up out of the hull, lands on the surface. It's got a few more scratches, but it hasn't taken any more serious injuries. It stands.

Lucifer stalks forward out of the smoke.

What do you do?

We'll call it here for tonight, I'm exhausted.

There may be a thread later in the day tomorrow, I've got a lot of family stuff planned. Will update on twitter.

Threads are all archived.

Ugh.

In order to prevent this pointless flame war from ever reoccuring lets ask the question:

SM, extinct artifacts aside, just what is the shelf life of a robot in our pocket?
>>
>>26670897
>Earth explodes.
NO
YOU BLEW IT UP
YOU MONSTERS
YOU DAMN DIRTY CHAOS SENTIENTS
>>
>>26670897

>>
>>26670897

WHY DIDN'T YOU FIGHT, SHADOW?

I'm finally free to sleep. Thanks SM. See ya next thread.
>>
>>26670913

A robot? Theoretically, forever.

I wouldn't do that though, even the nicest sentient robot might go insane if you kept it locked in a room for a thousand years.

hey seeing this post brings to mind those who said people who wanted to fight hated Flint and wanted the ship destroyed well look at what hiding did it destroyed the ship you Flint haters
>>
>>26670934

Well, the hull is magically reinforced to protect against the skysever...so any hull damage is bad.

No vital systems got taken out, but general damage will make it harder for Flint to reroute power.
>>
>>26670897
>What do you do?
Manipulate Lu in such a fashion that he ends up going into the Sky-Sever.

Or fuck, whatever gets him off this boat.

You fuckers!
this is what you get for being a cowardly twat and letting the XP-trolling anon's vote the thread in dumb directions! STOP LISTENING TO THEM.

Keep the CURRENT GOAL in mind when fighting!

if we need to defend the ship, fucking defend it, don't hide!
>>
>>26671021
>if we need to defend the ship, fucking defend it, don't hide!

Also, think about losses. Where the hell are we going to get the people to fix this damn thing, even IF we get it to xile in one piece!

This shit is no less serious than the Archonium Run. Aim for an A+ rank!
>>
>>26671021
We thought that we could get the Golem and Lu to wear each other out a bit, We didn't think it would detonate itself.
>>
If we get Pocket, we can put the hull holes in our Pocket to stop the bad things from getting into the ship.
>>
>>26670945

Good job OP, you earned you stripes.

FUCKING CALLED IT.
>>
>>26671046

Is that any way to address our Lord and Master, the Great SM?

Sometime Tomorrow.
