Imagine this if y'will: an entire city that's gone absolutely and totally combat mad. Megacity, actually. People call it a lot of different things, but since it's the only city on this continent (actually the only *landmark* on this continent), most just call it The City. So here's what's up - me and my sis, Ashley, grew up fighters; dad liked to say we were fighting outta the womb. She was older than me, always better, too - well, one day, we got into a car wreck. Bad shit; parents dead, and I thought my sis was, too. Stayed that way for years; all I had left of her were her gloves... until I got a letter from her just recently, telling me to come to her - "if you think you can keep up, little sis". Worked hard after that, and got myself a scholarship at a school here, White Wings Academy. Nice, big, fancy place, two students to a dorm room, mostly girls, which I appreciate.
Which brings me to my current issue: my back against a wall out back of the academy's art rooms. See, White Wing is a meritocracy, and that makes me - this year's scholarship student - an attractive target. Right now, though, it's Beauty and the Beast - pretty girl all in black, tall type, no scars on her face so I know she's good, and her beastly friend, the muscletoy with a jock's physique but a good center of gravity. Boxer probably. There aren't really any words to be said, so neither of us bother saying them; each of us knows what the other wants. At an almost imperceptible nod, he makes his move, steps in hard and leads with a straight bomb, quick and powerful.
I suck in a breath. Here we go.
I'm not a bad fighter in any sense of the term, so I'm not worried. The way I fight is...

>Block him and start throwing punches.
>Dance out of the way and lead into a kick.
>Shoot his legs and get him on the ground.
>Duck the punch and SPINEBUSTER.
>Redirect his punch and lock his arm.
>Redirect his punch into the wall and slip out; no need to fight.
>Free
>>
>Dance out of the way and lead into a kick.
We capoeira now.
>>
>>26694486
City of the zodiac Quest, huh? I hope this ends well cause /tg/ homebrews are really ticklish affairs because it's easy to step on a lot of toes.

>>Dance out of the way and lead into a kick.
Elegance!
>>
>>26694486

Locking the arm is a lousy move if he's got backup. How about we redirect his punch and hyperextend his elbow (same motion, just a little extra sharp force instead of steady pressure) to take him out of the fight?
>>
>>26694505
>>26694545
Grace... maybe even to the point of being arrogant about it? Perhaps we try to keep up with sis and therefore attempt to be both flashy AND powerful?
>Dance out of the way and lead into a kick.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
>>
>>26694486

>Dance out of the way and lead into a kick

>>
>[x]Dance out of the way and lead into a kick.

The cold feeling of calm washes over me. Don't freak out is step one to being a good fighter. Sis always fought with an elegant grace I still can't get close to, but I can come close. There's no need to dirty my hands with this guy. I step out of the way, turning across his body with my hands drawn close, to hip and shoulder, to guard, and hear two crunches.

The first is his fist hitting the concrete wall.

The second is my heel meeting the side of his knee. Obviously, it's not enough to just tap him - I bring my sneaker all the way down, force him to the floor and grind the heel into his now-shattered bone. He screams, shrill, and it echoes around the empty courtyard. Sexy. He's not down yet, though, and with his good leg he pushes up, taking one last looping shot at me, trailing blood through the air with his ruined fist.

Naturally, I'm not just a kick artist, so in this case I'll...

>Quickly dodge it and let him fall on his face.
>Use his momentum to smack him against the wall.
>Catch his hand and *squeeze*.
>>
>>26694735

>[x]Use his momentum against him.

Right shoulder, left third and fourth rib.

Let me tell you another tenet of fighting. Sooner or later, your enemy gets used to your technique, which means that against a foe with powerful endurance, you can't just do the same thing over and over again. What decides the fight then? Well, that's grappling!

I turn with him, grab his wrist - and slam my entire body into him as he overbalances, driving him into the unforgiving wall. There's a series of vicious cracks and crunches as his body breaks - right shoulder, left third and fourth ribs - but before he can even yell I shift my grip and throw him over my hip, slamming him onto the asphalt back first. He coughs blood and doesn't rise, which is almost a shame. Almost, because his boss is cracking her knuckles now.

"You were worth every cent. Truly, you were," she tells him, dark eyes on me. I smile back nastily.
"Maybe you should have saved it. I hear hospital trips are expensive."
She considers her downed beast, and just smiles, lowering her stance, hands up and open. "You'll have to let me know."

>Keep bantering.
>Find an excuse to walk away from the fight.

>[x]Wait for her advance.

Stands to reason that the boss will only come out after defeating her flunkies, so I'm not inclined to rush in, either. I keep my hands close, legs spread so I can move fast if I need to. She advances slowly, circling me away from the wall - which is to both our advantages, really, so I let her. Clever girl. "Sure must be a tough if you need guys like that to provide the muscle."
"No harm in being smart and making - or buying - friends. You should try it sometime." she's not in range yet. Near, but not near enough to begin the party. I can almost hear her breathing, in synch with my own; she's definitely good. Closer... "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you too badly."
"No? Because I'm going to tear off your eyes, stick them on your knees, and call you 'Kneesy' -"

I'm just getting done when she makes her move, stepping in and leading with a testing, straight jab.

>Hands up, block it hard.
>Use it to throw her.
>Same as before, step out and kick in.
>>
>>26695264

Lets hurt miss Kneesys hands with some solid elbow blocks.
>>
>[x]Hands up, block it hard.

This'll get her. She's probably anticipating a dodge, so I bring my hands up instead, blocking her hard.

Big mistake.

Her hand bounces lightly off my guard, but before I can get my hands down again she's dropped her body and charged, slamming shoulder-first into my gut - spear tackle, hard one, and I crash to the ground on my back, forcing myself to suck wind so I can keep going. Before I can move, she drops her weight over my thighs, pinning me down.
"Straight to the mount, huh -"
"Prefer it this way," she replies in the moment it takes for her hand to smash past my guard and collect my cheek. I manage to not let my head get rocked back into the cement, but it hurts like a dirty little bitch. She's keeping me pinned down with one hand pressed painfully against my chest; the other's already drawing back for another bomb. There's no way I can take many more of those.

Shit.

>Hands up and wait for an opportunity.
>Trap her arm as it comes down and work on slipping the mount.

>[x]Wait for an opportunity, then trap her arm and sub her.

She hits like a *truck*. Whatever she's hiding under that leather jacket is probably muscle instead of tits. I manage to block her first two punches, which leave my forearms red and aching. The third gets through and crunches my head back against the concrete - I stiffen in time and deaden the blow, but it sets my ears ringing, and I'm only just there enough to see the fourth punch coming. Fortunately, this is the one I've been waiting for. I grab her fist, push it over my head, and buck my hips, jolting her forward - for just a moment, we're nose to nose, just for a moment, and then I make my move, getting my other arm under her leg and jolting upwards, letting out a roar as I bridge and roll her.

She doesn't sprawl as such, but I do flip her over my head - still holding her wrist, which leaves her falling awkwardly on three limbs while I rise with the other. Quick moves now - she's already starting to rise, but I have her wrist.

>Wristlock.

Reboot. It's been so long since I had a chance to run the last one that the momentum and audience memory are gone, so I thought I'd throw them in as a potential subplot and leave it at that. I feel kinda bad about it, but, you know.

Spoilers: Lindsey's organization and Water Margin were both controlled by a cabal of senior management from both organizations, a rogue faction of both sides (Lindsay and /k/ from one side, Snake, Joe and Saul from the other) teamed up to solve things through punches. New one is going to be a more down-to-earth plot.

>>
>[x]Wristlock

Nothing fancy - I get my feet under me and straighten up, wrap my fingers around her hand. Sis' gloves creak as I do, a sound I'm quite in love with - real leather is a beautiful thing.

And then I twist. I'm not breaking it yet, although I definitely could if I felt like it. Intelligently, she doesn't move, since that would just make things harder for her, and I take a moment to listen to her sweet, pained breathing. Just as I'm starting to go further, though, she speaks:

"Alright, fuck it! I give."

- shame. So obviously since The City is totally fucking combat mad there's a degree of honor involved, and this is part of it - a fight's over when it's over, and that includes by submission. It's the done thing to honor a submission, and equally the done thing to not start a fight over the same grievance after it's been settled, but there's no actual rules about it.

With that in mind, I'll...

>Break her wrist.

"Fuck."
"That an offer, Kneesy?" I return. She snorts faintly.
"You wish. Can't believe you outgrappled me..."
"Maybe if you didn't suck, that wouldn't have happened."
"Fuck you." she starts drawing herself up, dusting off her pants. I take a quick glance back to make sure I'm not going to get fucked from behind but her hired muscle has wisely slunk off in the meantime. "I'm Meilang."
"Ember." I give her my name in turn. Stupid hippy parents. At least my sis got a real name. Meilang smirks faintly, but before she can open her mouth on the subject, the school's PA tolls the curfew bell, and she cuts off, hands on hips.
"So much for that... I'd get back to your dorm if you don't want to pick a fight with one of the prefects. You might have beaten me but they're all seriously hardcore."
"I'll consider it." All my stuff is back at my dorm, and I do need to meet my dormmate, but it's only the school that's offlimits now - I can go out into the city exploring if I prefer. Meilang breaks into my thoughts.

>[x]Accept her help.

"Sure thing, Kneesy. Everyone needs a servant around school." I smirk back at her. She doesn't rise to the bait, like a dog who's learned her place, but I catch a flash of rebellion there. Good; that'll make things fun.
"Follow me, then."

The Academy, by the way, is a goddamn maze. It doesn't look like that from the courtyard, but the entire place is intentionally built with the floors of each building in confusing order, and there's an entire underground segment you don't really expect; I probably would have got completely lost if I hadn't asked Meilang for help. I'll make it up to her later. Maybe. Unlikely.

We split up at the dorms proper, since I don't need her from there, and I make my way in. The door's already been decorated, so it looks like my dormmate got here first... but it's been decorated with several different "keep out" signs. And it's locked. Fortunately, I have a key myself, so I knock, and when there's no answer, I let myself in. It's actually pretty nice, with a tiny loungeroom and separate bedrooms - or it would be if it wasn't covered in books and at a light level that's dingy at best. "Uh, hello?"

She pokes her head out of one of the doors. Pretty girl, doesn't look like much of a fighter though, so what's she doing here? "Oh, you're here. Got here first cause I don't have an afternoon class. Sorry about the mess, I'm researching."

>[x]And your name is...

"Jean Chaser. Don't introduce yourself, I stole a copy of the dorm listings."

... okay then.

>[x]Reasearching what?

She leans on the doorframe. "Chi."

Ah. The big one. Chi means 'breath', the potential life energy that flows in and through pretty much everything, but particularly humans. Very few people actually cultivate their chi meaningfully, if they can at all, and fewer still manage to turn it into anything but one or two party favors. That doesn't mean people don't though, I had a guy set his hands on fire in a bar one time and come at me with flaming fists, totally unharmed.

Actually, I have a trick of my own in that regard. It's not much, but since sis taught me how to start cultivating, I've been working at it ever since then, so I finally have a technique to my name. In my case, it's...

>Lightfoot - crazy leaps, falling from any height, running on walls, that sort of thing.
>Wind Cutter - the standard wind blade. Cleaves concrete if you're good enough at it.
>Dragon's Breath - an internalized technique that strengthens the body, raising one's ability but not skill.

Lightfoot

Shenanigans, ho!
>>
>>26696770
Lightfoot is basically Dragons breath but very, very specialized. What happens when a dragonsbreath grappler gets us?
>>
>>26696889
He...won't?
>>
>>26696889
Dragon's Breath is implied to augment power, not necessarily make one more agile. Plus, even with Dragon's Breath, you can still fall off a three-story landing and break your leg if you're not careful.
>>
>>26696906
>Fight
>Not grappling
Come on.

But seriously. NOT picking dragonbreath just because "we won't grapple" is bad decision.
>>
>>26696906
Dragon's breath increases all their physical stats. So it's possible that one could gain ridiculous speed because of it, and be able to catch up to us.
Lightfood increases our acrobatics to ridiculous levels, maybe even let us do double jumps or something, while DB would allow us to shrug off anything, be ridiculously competent and a beast in melee. Also, element of surprise - would you expect a tiny girl who dodged everything so far to suddenly be able to punch through trucks?
>>
>>26696934
We won our first fights by counters. We did grapple some, but we don't necessarily have heaving strength anyway. Good wrestling and judo is all about leverage.
>>
>>26696934
I'll just put in that you've already ended two fights by grappling, and were grappled yourself in the second of those.

Carry on, I'll close it up in five minutes.
>>
>>26696949
So you're saying that by taking Dragon's Breath, we'll eventually have Lightfoot by proxy?
>>
>>26696958
Because you seem to be at least familiar with grappling and know your stuff, I'd vote for beastly grappling power instead of fancy tricks.
>>
>>26697008
Then I'll vote Dragon's Breath because it's the most solid of upgrades. Lightfoot, while handy, may make us a one-trick pony. Besides, no one said Dragon's Breath is just a bonus to grappling.
>>
>>26697008
B-but my gracefully wasteful stunts!!
>>
>>26697030
Absolutely over the top, brutal almost-fatalities, man. It's not the trick, it's the delivery.
>>
>>26696979
Think about it like this: Lightfoot would allow us to do wuxia shit by being elegant and refined. Dragon's Breath would allow us to do wuxia shit through raw power. Or, if you want it in D&D terms - Lightfoot gives us bonus points to skills and a couple powers that allow us to neutralize falls and run on walls, while Dragon's breath allows us that but through sheer bonuses to our stats (possibly even a damage reduction and some increased saves).
>>
>>26697044
I like passive core bonuses.
>>
Dragons breath would allow us go "This isn't even my final form!" on our opponents.
>>
>>26697056
We all do.
And since it's an internalized technique, it'll allow us to slow down bleeding, poison, disease, you know the drill. I guess at higher levels it'd allow us absolute body control, besides buffing us to hell and back.
>>
>>26696770
>>Lightfoot - crazy leaps, falling from any height, running on walls, that sort of thing.
Mobility. I like it.
>>Wind Cutter - the standard wind blade. Cleaves concrete if you're good enough at it.
Nearly useless bullshit unless you're wanking it to levels where you might as well be a deity. People tend to find ways around it. They always do.
>>Dragon's Breath - an internalized technique that strengthens the body, raising one's ability but not skill.
Well-rounded and probably neat to have because it'll let us shrug off things better which is always nice.

Still, lightfoot wins for me because I fucking love mobility.
>>
Pretty sure I'm too late for my vote to count, but I'd go with Lightfoot purely on the grounds that we can use it to enter and leave class through the window and not bother as much with the whole "the school's a fucking maze" thing.
>>
>>26697244

>>

The Million Style Manual isn't really something we can consult in the middle of a fight. Courtesan Tactics has a similar issue, but it does make us more well-rounded, which I like. As for how common these powers are, apparently they are a thing, but not something you encounter every now and then - and considering how everyone can jump anyone, better to keep our power level hidden at the moment.

>[x]Explore the city

I stay down just long enough to get my breath back after the fight and let the adrenaline wear off, and then I'm up and at 'em. Now to get out there and get moving.

The city's a big place, obviously. The area around the school is mostly entertainment, and at this time of evening there are plenty of students milling around and enjoying themselves. I pause at a roadside stand and pick up a jelly donut to sustain me; now it's just a matter of deciding where to go. Most of what's near the school is entertainment venues, arcades cinemas and that kind of thing, but after that it becomes the usual city eclecticism.

>[x]Go shopping and get a real meal.

The City isn't too big on malls, but there's a nice market just nearby, fortuitously enough. Street markets are really my kind of thing; you never know what you're going to pick up, and you can fill your stomach bit by bit on the way around. New apps are unfortunately way out of my price range - even on a scholarship, I don't have that much money to throw around willy-nilly, but I do pick up (rather, order) a few sets of wearable clothes from a friendly vendor. That should be ready in a few days.

I consider getting a set of gloves - in fairness, sis' gloves are really worn out, although they fit me just fine - but I really just can't bear to part with hers, so I don't.

I'm stopped in a parkside quietly hewing my way through my latest meal - this one a hot dog - when I become aware of someone else in the park, dancing through the streetlights that illuminate the place. Practicing, actually. She's beautiful, moving gracefully across the grass despite her heels, parting the night air with a glittering blade as if it were only natural. She hasn't noticed me yet, though, or so I don't think.

And that's about when I become aware of something else: three or four dark shapes moving through the edges of the light, moving to surround her, actually. And it doesn't seem like she's noticed them, either.

Shout to warn her. If they still attack jump in to help.
>>
>[x]Go talk to her

I scarf the remains of the hotdog (waste not want not) and casually stroll in. As soon as I step into the light proper, she stops her practice, easily flicking her blade around into a reverse grip for safekeeping. Considering it's half of her length, that isn't anything to laugh about. Before I can open my mouth, though, she speaks:

"What's up, Ash? Concerned about these losers in the shadows?"

- Ash? As in, Ashley?

As in, my sister?

I'm still looking for a response when there's a flurry of yells from outside the lights.
"Shit, busted!"
"Fuck it, get in there and fuck them both up!"

The other girl - more like lady, really - laughs as they surge in, four guys in dark oufits, beanies, ski masks, the works. So they definitely don't want to be ID'd. Their outfits aren't uniform, just dark in general. No identifying marks. The lady puts her back to me, smiling through her voice. "How about two each, cutie? And don't kill any of them this time, the smell of blood isn't sexy."

"Speak for yourself." I return, raising my hands to ready for the attack. They're both carrying blades, just jacknives, nothing big or dangerous. It'd suck if I got stabbed, though, so that won't be happening. They come in staggered, one after the other, but the leader is much faster than his buddy, so I have a few seconds.

Had read somewhere it is not always good idea to try to disarm them, instead we should focus on knocking them out.
>>

She said DON'T kill them.
>>
>[x]Scout the hit, dodge and kick. Same as usual.

My eyes narrow as he brings the blade down in an overhand chop, making it catch the lamplight and glitter briefly. Just like with Meilang's hired muscle, I turn into him, the same graceful turning evasion, but this time when he overbalances I extend my leg and snap my heel into the bridge of his nose. The sound of the ski mask cracking echoes across the park - even over the sound of the lady beating the other two senseless, a delightful symphony of grunts, smacks, and cracks - and he goes down clutching at his face and groaning in pain; the knife lands somewhere in the grass and I lose track of it cause his buddy's coming in right this second, slower, holding the knife reverse-grip and waving it a little, making the intent clear. I breathe out and half-turn to face him, making sure I don't lose track of his buddy, and he's smart enough to wait for me this time.

>Dart in and kick him with speed.

Fucking amateur! You should NEVER waving the the knife!!! That just asking to get your ass kicked!!!

>Wait for his move, then counter.

Break his fucking arm!
>>
>>26698920
He's already down, though, and I'd prefer him to be out. Hence the suggestion to headpunt the thug on the ground while watching the other guy. It keeps us from getting jumped and makes a statement to the other guy.
>>
>>26698940
Break his arm to make a point.
>>
>[x]Wait for his move, then counter.

I keep my eyes on him, but since his buddy's lying right there, I'm not about to let him get away. I half-turn again, to the other side this time, and I'm just in the process of revving up to punt the downed guy when Mook #2 makes his move, suddenly charging in with the knife. He doesn't wield it in reverse-grip; rather, at the last second, he twists it in his hand and stabs directly at my stomach - right when I'm off-balance from going to make sure his friend stays down.

Shit.

>Shift the kick to kick at him. Clumsy at best.
>Break off entirely and just get out of the way.

>>
>>26699103
Grabbing the knife usually means you get CUT.
>>
>>26699114
If you catch the blade like a special child, yes.
>>
>>26699103
We'll get fucked, that's our point. And you're deliberately trying to fuck us up.

Dodge that shit. Unless "catch the knife" means "grab his hand and fuck him up."
>>
>>26699114
Getting cut in a fight is fun!
>>
>[x]Catch the knife.

"FUCK." I reach out, hand open wide, and close it around the gleaming blade. It hurts, of course; the pain lances up my arm like shards of ice, met by hot blood dripping down the edge and onto the knife, then to the grass below. "YOU."
He stops, visibly shaken even though most of his face is hidden. "I - you - what!?"
"Come on, bitch, push or pull. You'd at least save face if you cut off a finger or two," I taunt him back, grinning widely. "This is why you don't send a boy to do a man's job!"

I punch him in the nose - there's a crunch as it flattens - and when he starts to pull away, I grab his wrist with my bloodied hand and spin it over his head, leaving him bent over and facing away from me, and then, one leg raised, I jam my heel into his elbow. It doesn't just shatter spectacularly - I can hear every snap, crackle, and pop - the whole joint reverses, bending his arm at a sick, unnatural angle. His hand instantly goes dead, leaving the knife dropping to the grass, and I dump him sobbing to the ground, leaving him to clutch his arm and cry in pain. His buddy is starting to move when I kick the knife past him, splattering his face with blood.

From the sounds of it, the others are pretty fucked up too, and the rally cry to retreat goes up immediately -
"Fuck these bitches!"
"My arm -"
"Fuck your arm, we're out!"
>>
>>26699149
I'm not deliberately trying to fuck us anything, so why don't you just calm down and remove your tinfoil hat? I'm going by catching the knife wasn't literally catching the blade like a moron and even so we at least have leather gloves.
>>
>>26699161
I cackle as they go - well, between laughing and gasping, anyway. My hand hurts, but it's manageable... sis' gloves have a cut in them now, though, which I'll have to have repaired; I can't just leave them damaged. They are hers, after all. The lady, speaks from behind me, amused.

"You aren't Ash. I was thinking you might be having a bad day, but nah, Ash doesn't have bad days," she shakes her head, "so I guess you must be her sister."

That gives me pause for a moment. "So you know my sister?"
"Oh yeah, we're tight. She told us about you, too." the lady runs her fingers along her unblemished blade. "Told us you were coming. Oh, and one more thing." she raises it high, letting it sparkle in the streetlight for a few moments.

"She also told us to show no mercy."

The blade comes down in a silver streak.

Doubtful that she's captured. She's probably the final boss.
If anything, she's probably more insane than we are, and this is either her trying to train us, or establish if we're worthy of being her little sister.

As for the theme song, I've been playing Infected Mushroom since we broke that guy in half.
