You reach down to pick up Deepthroat's smartphone, checking it briefly for any damage before carefully...slipping it into her skirt pocket. Pulling the embroidered handkerchief that Mami herself gave you for situations such as these from your own inventory, and passing it to the sobbing, blubbering girl.

She recoils at this, as if you'd offered her a cooked grenade instead - but she takes it a moment later, continuing her muffled bawling on it. ...You're positive you're not going to get that handkerchief back, at least not without being weighed down with a pound of snot of tears, anyway...well, it was your fault, really.

You just didn't expect being suddenly kissed by a pink-haired eldritchian horror with a fucking abattoir for a mouth.

Urgh. You can still taste blood, even at the back of your throat.
>>
>>26710429

In any case, you apologize to the sobbing assistant. You were...well, you felt that something was off about the room, and made a sweep as quick as you can. It was a coincidence that you ended up in front of Noriko - it wasn't that you were trying to scare her or anything.

"Just a coincidence, huh, Murderface?" Sayaka seems to smirk, here, but it's more of a token attempt than anything. It seems even she's bothered by the sight of Noriko frightened out of her wits. She even manages to look disappointed - a look you can't help but avert your eyes from, as you pat the blubbering assistant on the shoulder. Trying to comfort her as much as you can.

Maybe you should dial back on that paranoia, huh? Noriko doesn't really seem to be the type to be involved with NECO, anyway. Poor kid's just trying to get by on her own. She already has to deal with Ruri on a daily basis, she doesn't need more grief from you.

In mid-pat, though, it's then that you find your right arm - the one with the Shield - being grasped by someone, and pulled away from its shoulder-patting configuration. You turn to look at the culprit - and who else could it have been but the Principal herself?

"C-Chiaki-chan!" Ruri's eyes are positively shining, glowing, as she gazes into the scarred surface of your shield, her perfectly-manicured fingertips tracing the jagged canyon of metal revealing the gears clicking inside. "I...this is how your Time Stop works?! This is...this is what Murder Mayumi's Murder Genocider Cutter is patterned from?!" She looks up at you in rapt worship and wonder. "That's...that's awesome!!"

"Oh, boy." Sayaka audibly sighs. "Murderface, come on, we gotta finish this security meeting you called. Stop fooling around with the client."

How do you respond?

Murder Genocider Cutter? ...Oh. Probably Murder Mayumi's chainsaw frisbee, or something. Huh. That's not a bad name. In fact, you think it sounds pretty cool. Then again, you've never really called your Shield other than just 'the Shield', so...maybe you should think about that. Like how Sayaka's gunsword is named after a dessert.

You let the super idol get a closer look at it for a few moments, before pulling away, telling her that you really need to finish the meeting. Besides, she shouldn't look at the Shield too closely - you're not even sure what the hell it actually is, anyway. Her messing about with it could make something bad happen.

"What, like make the chainsaw teeth come out?" Ruri volunteers brightly, still enchanted with the disc-shaped magical device. You open your mouth correct her, before closing it - and then simply nodding. Yeah, that might happen, for all you know. Might take her arm off and shit.

"Oh? W-well, uh...I just wanted to see how cool it was, personally!" Ruri smiles, backing away carefully from the Shield, still eyeing it with adoration but with a bit more respect now. "And you can stop time with it, too! That's pretty convenient!"

...Not really all that convenient, considering...well...

"Considering what, Chiaki-chan?" Ruri blinks, seemingly finding no possible downside to having time be your bitch.

You don't even have to think about it. You shake your head, and resume your place back in the huddle, leaving the super idol alone in her mild confusion.

"...Right. Now, uh, so, just to finish..." Kyosuke clears his throat. "Miss Matsuda, in the off-chance that we need to extract Miss Ruri from the stadium, do you have any particular plan you'd like for us to follow?"

Enishi speaks up here. "Well, if I may, Warmaster? Whenever we had to extract a celebrity in mid-broadcast, we would have a Callidus assume the principal's appearance to help lead the hostiles away from the real principal. I believe such a tactic could help here, if it's needed, of course."

"So eager to sacrifice yourself right away for the mission, Karasawa?" Sayaka remarks, her trademark smirk curling her lips. "Or are you just getting ready to crawl up the Warmaster's ass again, just like you tried with Kharn?"

The Callidus Rank Leader, to her credit, doesn't rise to Sayaka's bait, merely smiling. "Perish the thought, Miki-san. I'm simply offering my services where needed, for the good of the operation."

How do you react? It sounds like a good suggestion.

"Miki." Just a single word. It's a good suggestion. A light chidding will suffice.

However it doesn't work since Chiaki is ALSO highly recognisable.

Propose that Enishi sticks close to us. Should anything happen, she is to use her callidus powers to disguise the three of us and allow us to exfiltrate.

This is better as we don't know if the enemy has any other callidus type assets. Counter-callidus would be much more important as even Midori was able to keep Chiaki under.

"That would work splendidly against mundane threats, but considering the Tojo Group's apparent use of a Calidus, I don't think we can rely on it. Could you create illusory duplicates without a body to anchor them?
If worst comes to worst, I'd really prefer Sayaka to be the one getting shot at. Her limbs grow back, after all.

Additionally, nobody is to engage any hostile if they are wielding a Golden Weapon. They are my responsibility."

They've been queuing up so far, you're right to say that could change though.

Interlocking fields of fire, with each sniper having a line of sight on the other, and with regular radio contact should be enough. Unless we face a direct assault from multiple directions at once.

It's difficult to choose between having a decoy for when things go tits up and having a counter-callidus. I think we'll deal with at most one callidus and devoting our only callidus to negating her abilities is an inefficient use of assets when she could be negating a much larger force by drawing them away from our principle.

I don't mind having her with us, I just think we should be ready to use her as a decoy and that she has more use as a decoy. We have an entire squad, not to mention Sayaka and ourselves (I suppose the security force counts too) for the other stuff.

Enishi could draw away anything which we'd be too hard pressed to face though, or force an enemy to divide itself and make it easier for us to pick them apart.

You're right to say we should keep our options open though, and I agree with that.

You fix Sayaka with a stare just as you say her last name - and she blinks at you in surprise. Your silence is enough to clue her in, and she averts her eyes, murmuring something approaching of an apology towards Enishi - the Callidus having the good grace to accept it with a silent nod, before turning to you with a small, yet appreciative smile.

The brief contact between you and your Rank Leaders lasts no more than a few seconds, but you feel that it's helped to cement your position as Warmaster and leader of this operation. At the very least, Sayaka seems to be taking things a bit more seriously now, no longer smirking but listening intently.

You nod at this, before starting to speak. It's a good suggestion, and no doubt one that could work if not for the fact that you're blatantly recognizable - and so is Sayaka. All the hostiles need to look out for is the Ruri that's getting escorted out by you, and they'd have the real article for sure. So you propose a second plan - where if anything happens, Enishi is to use her abilities to disguise you, the Principal, and possibly Sayaka as quickly as possible.

"Ah. And this would help you get the Principal out without being recognized in the inevitable chaos. I see, Warmaster." Enishi nods, and it's here that even Sayaka seems to be impressed. "I...well. A brilliant suggestion, Warmaster, and with all due respect, not the sort I was expecting from you." The Callidus smiles. "Very well, that will be our plan of action should we agree that Miss Ruri needs to be extracted as soon as possible." She turns to Kyosuke. "I assume we can count on you and your men to do what they can to delay the hostile entities, should they give chase?"

The young man nods firmly, determination set on his face. "You assume correctly, Miss Karasawa. We'll do all we can to keep the hostiles pinned until Miss Ruri is safe and clear."

"Squad Hiryu will assist you and your men in this matter, as well." Enishi nods, before turning back to you. You glance back at her, and then at the others, checking if they have any other suggestions. They seem to at least be in accord with each other.

"Well, I guess that's that, then," Sayaka shrugs. "Er...Murderface, just one question. Do I kill on sight, or just beat them back enough that we can get away?"

...She has to ask a question like that?

"It's an Eversor thing." Sayaka studiously ignores Enishi's muffled giggle, her cheeks crimsoning. "It's...uh. It's customary with protection jobs like this. Op leader always sets what kind of attacks we have to use. It's for the benefit of the client, anyway." She jerks her head towards Ruri. Look. When people ask you that in an office, that's fine to say "I trust you to do the right thing". That means you can blame them when they screw up.

When you're giving combat doctrines, you want to make it clear for them "Kill them on sight". Or "Subdue unless they open fire, then kill on sight."

You don't want them thinking "should I just knock them up a bit? I can take that guy before he opens up on the crowd instead of shooting them."

You want CLEAR ORDERS. That's best for everyone, even if it's not as "nice" as "I believe you can do it, Saya-pyon!"

You consider it for the briefest of moments before giving your answer. Sayaka's to use maximum force to remove anyone in the way of exfiltration. If she can keep it relatively clean, sure - but if she has a target, you don't want it getting back up. The principal's survival is top priority. Kill on sight. Especially if it's a Magical Girl.

Sayaka nods gravely at this. "Right. Understood." She lets out a breath, before rolling her shoulders. "...Hopefully it won't come to it, though. Right, Murderface?" She stares at you suddenly, sharply, as if trying to gauge your reaction - a stare that you return coolly, before nodding.

Yeah. Hopefully, it won't come to anything like that.

The group makes to disassemble, but you have one last thing to mention. If anyone seems a Golden Weapon being used by any of the hostiles, you are to be notified of it immediately. No one engages the hostile but you. And if they are to find one lying around, you'll be the one to recover it.

"A Golden Weapon?" Kyosuke echoes, here. "Like...like your Desert Eagle, then, Miss Matsuda?"

You nod. Just like it. It doesn't necessarily need to be a gun, but a weapon that seems to be made completely out of gold.

"...Well, I'll notify the rest of the detail, Miss Matsuda, but may I ask why?" Kyosuke glances at Sayaka, then back at you. "Is there anything special about them?

"You...can say that." The Blueberry suddenly cuts in, making it the very first sentence she'd used to address the young man directly - at least, after finding out his identity. "It's Magical Girl stuff. Nothing you need to know about, Kamijou." The venom as she utters the young man's last name is painfully audible.

Kyosuke blinks at this, before nodding stiffly. "Ah. Yes. Right. Of course. Consider the detail notified about this, Miss Matsuda."

You glance "I'll alert Squad Hiryu about this too, of course." Enishi cuts in. "We won't disappoint you, Warmaster."

[1/2]
>>
>>26712156
Slicing or blowing open a major artery is a form of death that can't be feasibly stopped in quite a lot of cases. Opening someone's thighs up will bleed them to fatal levels of blood loss in less than a minute, and you often can't stop that blood loss even with a tourniquet in time if there's someone right there.
>>
>>26712197

You have a feeling they won't. You nod at everyone finally, before dismiss the meeting.

Enishi and Kyosuke immediately file out of Ruri's suite, obviously eager to pass down the instructions to their squads. Sayaka, on the other hand, joins Ruri in picking their costumes - it seems that the super idol's forgotten you long enough to get obsessed with playing dress-up, again. At the corner, Noriko seems to have recovered, and is fiddling with her smartphone again.

What do you do, now?

With the final security meeting done, you can breathe easy in knowing that everyone knows what to do. The contingency plan you came up with, in case it all goes ass-upwards, seems to be the prudent sort of thing to do, so that's another plus there.

You still have a bit of time before you have to get ready yourself, so you decide to talk to a couple of people first. The first of them being Ruri - the principal that more than a couple of dozen people will be laying down their lives for. Yours included.

"Hey, Chiaki-chan!" Ruri beams at you as you approach. "Thanks for handling that for me."

Handling what, exactly? The security meeting? But that's your job. You're supposed to be handling that.

"Yes, of course!" The super idol nods. "But the fact that you conducted it with me seeing you guys talk so seriously...well, it helps me feel just a bit more safe, you know?" She shoots a look towards the door that Kyosuke used to leave the suite. "Kyojou never really let me see him talk to his bros before, you know! Something about not letting me worry with that kind of thing, as if I can't handle some big, tough guys talking about shooting people in the face!"

Well, you can see his point there. Clients aren't supposed to worry--

"Yeah, but it helps if the client knows what's going on, right? So I'm not confused when stuff does happen! So I know that I'm really getting my money's worth in protection!"

Ah. That's...you get her point too. It's good that she feels safer, though. You won't let anyone harm a hair on her head.

"A-ahaha." It's here that the super idol blushes. "H-hearing you say that, Chiaki-chan, it...it kind of makes my heart beat faster, you know?" She smiles. "Is this how...how Miracle Midori felt?"

Yes. Remember, we do not like this woman at all. She's been nothing but a pain in our ass ever since we took this job, and there's still a good chance that she's gonna try and kill us. Why would we be anything but cordial with her?

You stare at Ruri for a few moments before shaking your head. You have no idea what Miracle Midori felt. Maybe it is, you're not exactly sure. She's the one with the script, after all - shouldn't she know?

The super idol blinks at you, before shaking her head, giggling. Her long green hair, tied into elegant twintails, rippling with every movement. "Hee, well, it wasn't really a question, you know. But I guess that's a point - I should read through the script a bit more, see if I can really get into Miracle Midori's shoes. It's not just enough that I reread the entire series from back to back, you know - the emotion has to be there, or else it all falls flat!"

It's here that she groans. "Ahh, if only we could talk to the actual author, you know! But she's really hard to get a hold of, she doesn't even have an e-mail address!"

...Really? Well. Is Green Green that elusive?

"She is!" Ruri nods at you, quite animated. "I've hired a bunch of private investigators already, all of them came up with nothing!" It's here that she pouts. "I even asked Kyuubey if he could help me with it, but he only stayed quiet and then changed the subject, just like that." She lets out a sigh. "It's not just to bother her about Miracle Midori's motivations, you know...it's also to tell her just how significant a body of work the entire MM x MM series is!"

Significant body of work...? But surely it's just lesbian pornography, really?

Ruri stops at this, before narrowing her eyes at you, the air of an offended rabid fan all but blasting from her. "...Chiaki-chan, I should shout at you for that, you know? You're the one who inspired one of the main characters, the least you could do is to appreciate the deep, nuanced story!"

...Right. Maybe when you've got the time. In any case, does she understand what she has to do? Does she have any questions about anything?

[1/2]
>>
>>26713538

"...No, Chiaki-chan, I overheard everything else you guys were whispering about earlier." It's here that Ruri turns away from you as she rummages through her wardrobe rack full of costumes, flipping through every one, sounding completely bored now."I'll just stick close to you and Sayaka-chan the entire time, and follow all your instructions without asking any stupid questions."

She looks at you pointedly, through another transparent outfit that should not have any place on any self-respecting girl's body. "Is that everything, Chiaki-chan? Can I go back to my vapid idol hobbies now, before I sing to fifty thousand people in the stadium and approximately a billion more online?"

You nod, slightly surprised yourself. You were actually expecting her to be a bit difficult about this, but at least she's cooperating without too much fuss. Yeah, that's all you wanted.

...Well, no. Not everything. This...idols singing in one voice thing, about her concert. What's that about?

"...What did you think it was?" Ruri blinks at you. "It's all the idols in the performance singing one song, with me leading the melody!"

Ah. Huh. Well. That doesn't sound so bad. You were thinking about...nevermind. You leave her to her cosplaying.

"I wasn't planning anything weird, Chiaki-chan! Really, now!" Ruri calls after you, before grumbling something to Sayaka. You pointedly ignore this, excusing yourself from the room - seeing Enishi just finishing up her briefing with Squad Hiryu, just outside.

"--Let's do our best not to involve any civilians, shall we? Of course, any civilian that you see attempting to get too close to the Principal or the Warmaster, you are allowed to put down with extreme prejudice." The Callidus looks at each member of Squad Hiryu in turn. "Now, you girls get ready, we'll be moving out soon. Dismissed."

[2/3]
>>
>>26713551

The squad quickly disperses - saluting you as they go past - and Enishi smiles as you come closer. "Ah, Warmaster. Thank you for your suggestion, earlier. It'll be quite the new experience for me, serving so closely with my Warmaster. As you may have inferred, Miss Valnikov never really...asked for Callidus support in such a manner."

Oh? She didn't?

"No." Enishi shakes her head mournfully. "We were mostly decoys at her disposal. Sometimes, set on fire, to add as further distraction."

Ah. Well. Kharn's...Kharn.

"Nevermind that, though. What can I do for you, then, Warmaster?" Enishi smiles again, curtseying slightly.

What do you say to Enishi?

"Ah. Hmm." Enishi nods thoughtfully, after you've finished listing down your questions. "Well, let's see...I'll try not to be too long-winded, I have a problem with that..."

And she did try, but you did have to listen for a bit to get everything down. Apparently, the range of Callidus illusion magic varies from individual to individual - mostly relying on how they're trained, how rigorous their training and innate ability. But it seems to depend mostly on how the illusion itself is applied.

For example, is the Callidus asked to create something out of nothing, like an illusion of a dragon or some giant beast to fly through the air? Then the Callidus must certainly have a line of sight to maintain the illusion. If it's to brainwash someone into seeing something that isn't there, or seeing nothing where there is something? Then the Callidus must ideally be near the targets, or even within touching distance if necessary.

"Of course, we can rely on certain tokens or items to do it remotely, to a point, Warmaster." Enishi nods. "We can imbue small items with a precast illusion, to trigger when they're in the presence of the desired target, or in their possession, somehow. Like a card, or a talisman of some sort. Of course, such illusions are usually the simple kind - you can't really make an elaborate illusion and then consign it to a token as insignificant as a business card."

The Callidus takes out a blank, rectangular sheet of white rice paper from the inside of her sleeve. As she unfurls it in front of you, black kanji etches itself on the white surface, inked by an invisible brush. "We usually only use it to get past non-magical folk, Warmaster. Anyone worth their Soul Gem will be able to see through such an illusion clearly."

Ah. Well. You probably don't need to worry about that, then?

[1/2]
>>
>>26714606

"Mostly." It's here that Enishi allows herself a small smile. "But it should not make you complacent, Warmaster. It's possible that the enemy Callidus focused on token-based illusions as the main part of their training."

That's something to take note of, then. But is there a limitation to such illusions?

"Token-based illusions only last a short while, depending on how much magic's been used for them." Enishi had said. "It can range from a mere ten seconds to a full ten minutes. Rarely do they ever reach up to thirty minutes at a time, but that would take...an enormous amount of magic."

But are they easy to see through, if you're a Magical Girl?

"I would say so." Enishi places her rice paper talisman back into her sleeve. "You'd have to be really careless not to see it, Warmaster. Just take out your Soul Gem and let its light shine - it'd mark out the token reliably."

Right. You'll remember that.

Now, what about her own strengths? How will she go about performing her duties? And what will she disguise you, the Principal, and Sayaka as?

"I am well-versed in the arts of concealment and disguise, Warmaster." The Callidus Rank Leader smiles. "As I've said earlier, I will be fully invisible throughout the duration of the entire operation, unless you ask me to drop my cover. As for you three - well, the illusion will work outwards. You won't be able to see the disguise layer when I activate it on your person - only those who will be looking at you."

But how will you be able to tell if you're disguised?

"It'll be very obvious." She smiles. "But just so that there's no confusion, you'll have a bit of a crimson glow encompassing your person. Of course, this indicator is not visible to everyone else, just you and those in the same disguise layer."

Mmmh. That sounds simple enough. You thank her for telling you all of this.

"As you say so. I live to serve, Warmaster."

Is there anything else you'd like to ask? If not, then you may as well get ready.

I'm pretty sure they expect us to be in "shoot on sight" mode with them at this point. Ruri wouldn't mind I'm sure. After the BS with the card I'm sure Kyouske and the others mundane guards aren't going to be happy to see them either.

You decide that you've learned enough from Enishi. You make to dismiss her, but stop at the very last moment, causing the Callidus to blink at you with a quizzical look on her face. "Er...yes, Warmaster? What seems to be the problem?"

Well. If she's going to be invisible the entire mission, then she may as well dress up for the ocassion, right? She should talk with the principal, see if she could score a costume or two. Ruri seems to be in a cosplaying mode anyway, so there's that.

"O-oh! I...I do believe I will, then!" Enishi's smile is bright and quite possibly remini...Nothing. Just burned away like any kind of card, really. Left a bit of a mess of black charred bits on the floor, but besides that, it was harmless.
scent of a child that's just been told that she could open her Christmas gifts early. "Thank you, Warmaster! I won't forget this!"

You wave away her gratitude and allow her to leave, just as you pull Yoshitaka Mine's business card from your inventory. Turning it over and over in your hands.

Finally, after a long day - you'll be able to get through the second day of this fucking op. Actually doing the job you're supposed to, rather than just play grumpy babysitter. And it took a while, longer than you thought.

You glance down at the card in your hands. ...Well, it doesn't look like any kind of illusion token, but you're not going to take any chances.

A freshly-lit cigarette bobbing up and down on your lips, you hold the card over your zippo's ignited flame - and let the white rectangular piece of cardboard burn in your grasp. You watch carefully, scrutinizing how it burned, looking to see if it'd explode somehow, or release any illusion it may have had stored inside.

[1/2]
>>
>>26715095

Taking a deep breath of calming cigarette smoke, you glance back towards the room where Ruri still remained - her animated chatter with Sayaka and Enishi muffled to intelligibility behind the walls seperating you.

Idols. Seriously.

Never again, you promise yourself. Never, as long as you're Warmaster. As long as you're still a Magical Girl.

Idols will be the death of you, Pinky had warned.

It's not as grisly as getting your heart torn out, but compared to idols?

You'd rather have Pinky put you out of your misery.

It'd be much quicker, less of a mess, and you''ll be spared the indignity of eating your own gun.

There was a certain time early, early every morning (except for Saturdays) when all of the other Rabbits were tucked tightly in their beds, and everything in the building was dyed a gentle blue-gray. This morning in particular had a certain cool crispness that lent a sort of surreal quality to the common room, and though I typically cherished the peace and quiet of the mornings, it ate at me as I sat with my morning tea.

Things had finally settled down again, recently. Rather, I ought to say I had come to terms with a few things as of late, and I’d fully integrated into the group again. Maybe as their den mother more than their comrade, but I liked to think that was for the best. Even I’d admit that some of them needed reining in at times.

I caught a flicker in the corner of my…vision, I supposed. I wasn’t entirely sure how to think of it. It was more of a sense than anything, a ‘feeling’ of proud, pale aquamarine, sparkling at eight o’ clock. She moved ever so slightly – peeking out at me almost like a cat, apparently fascinated with my small morning ritual.

…Well, I was in no hurry. If she needed something, I would be here until she was ready. I took a sip of hot, refreshing tea and left my thoughts to churn while I focused on her movements, and after a few long minutes of apparent deliberation, she slipped out from the doorway, making scarcely a noise on the padded carpet.

I opened my mouth to say something, but I had a feeling it would send her scuttling off like a mouse, the way she was acting. It was odd behavior for her already.

“…Wright,” she began, crisply and quietly, in the vague trappings of her gentle patois. She cleared her throat. “A moment of your time, if you please, and your thoughts on a vexation of mine.” Viola was never one for speaking bluntly, and we’d all wondered from time to time if this was typical over in the European Officios. This sort of morning meeting was why I keep two cups out, regardless, and I poured some tea for her as she took a seat across from me.

“Has Wendy been teasing you again?” I asked after a few moments of silence passed. Viola’s attitude could be…difficult for most people to deal with, and she’d poisoned more than a few wells for herself after she’d transferred to the Eighth. She and Wendy ended up on assignments together reasonably often, though, and I liked to think they’d become good friends, despite their mutual grumbling.

“Cooldown? As though that would bother me. I haven’t an ear for fools.” She stared hard into her tea, and I offered a smile, reaching over the table to pat her shoulder. “This is…about our Eastern guests, from a few weeks ago. The Japanese.”

I nodded and urged her to continue.

“…Among them walked a goddess, Dorothy.” Viola nearly swallowed the last few words, her teeth digging into her lower lip. The faintest hints of a blush began on her face, and my own smile grew (with some small effort). “In manner and spirit, in grace and in battle. A beacon of shining gold amongst the dark-haired rabble.”

Well, at least she wasn’t referring to them as Orientals. Anymore. I nodded again and took a long, pointed sip of my tea, to allow her a moment to think about what she needed to say.

“…I can’t stop thinking about her. Dreams, wicked and vibrant dreams, haunt me. …I…am not entirely sure how to cope with this. You’ve sense, and experience in matters of the…the heart.” She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. “I need to see her. I want to see her smile again. I want to keep it for my own.”

“Don’t cut off her head, Viola,” I scolded as gently as I could. “That’s hardly the way to begin a romance.”

“…I wasn’t going to,” she lied. “I hadn’t even thought about it.”

I couldn’t say I knew Miss Tomoe very well – we’d only met very briefly, just once or twice. She was awfully kind to all of us, despite the Corps’s infamy among certain other Officios, though she also held onto a cool, professional air that I’d rarely seen in…well, in the United States as a whole, in fact. Aside from a few glimpses into diplomatic Callidus missions, and Warmaster Marigold’s picnics with dignitaries.

What I did know, however, was the simple, inescapable fact that clothes made a woman, and Viola’s were…at best, uninspiring (aside from half a wardrobe of implausibly lacy garments that I was sure the Prima was behind). A couple of old uniforms from her time at the Second, a smattering of blouses and skirts, and…granny panties.

…Well, supposedly those had come back into style lately, but the rest needed a severe tuneup. And that was why we were hitting our third high-end boutique for the day. I had insisted as politely as I could that I size and evaluate Viola myself, and while I don’t enjoy throwing my weight around, it was rare for anybody in Santa Destroy to argue after one flashed one’s Eighth Officio ID card.

(4/9)
>>
>>26715167
“Is…is this truly what Miss Tomoe would want from me?” For the eleventh time in the past two hours, Viola nibbled her lip and fixed her eyes on me.

“Do try and have a little faith, Viola. I plan to do everything I can to make this work for you, but you need to trust me.” I tried to reassure her with a gentle squeeze on the arm, but for one reason or another, it seemed to make her all the more uncomfortable. Maybe it was a bit too hard…

“Would she not see through such shallow drapery?” She definitely needed something cool and professional…blue hair was so hard to do anything cute with...Well, that and her smiles tended to be ominous on the best of days…trying to work against her nature would just come off as dissonant… “…Wright?”

“Mm?” I paused for a fraction of a second to review what she’d asked. “There’s nothing to see through.” Not entirely true, but I had a feeling she would be…a bit upset, if I pointed out that howling about blood for the Blessed Lady tended not to make the best impression.

“And it isn’t shallow,” I added after a moment of thought. “You’re dressing to highlight your best features. The best features of your personality, I mean.” I shot Viola a sideways glance just in time to see her mouth snap shut.

“…Quite.”

“I’m just saying, you’re prrrobably better off putting a Chihuahua in a little Santa outfit.”

I really hated to admit it, but even after carefully styling Viola’s hair, carefully applying makeup, and fitting her with the most stunning semi-formalwear in Santa Destroy…well, Amber wasn’t the only one to whom a scared little dog in a costume came to mind.

Well, it was more correct to say that the outfit looked great – a nice, dark suit jacket with a silk blouse and sensible tie, along with a stylish, just-short-of-risque` skirt with black pantyhose and riding boots, a compromise between functional combat boots and fashionable heels (I still wasn’t happy about that, but it worked well enough) – but Viola didn’t wear it as well as I’d hoped. The style was right, it was almost there, but…

“…This whole affair bears the acrid stench of failure.” Viola gripped her arm tightly, looking all the world like a wounded animal. My heart ached as I stood, trying to puzzle out the best way to proceed.

“I think that’s cherry blossoms, actually? They all kind of smell the same to me, I’m not really, y’know, a perfume person. I’m kind of surprised you didn’t just dab blood behind your ears or something and call it a day.” Amber tilted her head, peering through a little box she made with her fingers.

“Wright wouldn’t allow it,” Viola huffed in response, seemingly relaxing just a bit. She and Amber began to chatter about the events of the day, and while I kept an ear open, I instead focused on the problem at hand.

A million pinpricks lit up the inside of my mind as a world of information opened before me. It occurred to me in passing that I ought to have simply done this before, as I recalled V’s measurements and what I had of her stance and movement patterns, but I didn’t regret it. The old ways felt better, at least for a baseline.

(6/9)
>>
>>26715179
…Well, I would like to say it was arduous, but it only took a few seconds to work out what I thought would be a good solution. I was wrong the first time, though, so I double and triple-checked, adjusting over a few minutes as Viola eased up. Amber always knew when to start needling people; she was already pushing V back into a more natural state of mind.

Once I finished, I slipped in closer to make some adjustments, and…

“…you just pin her down and lick it, she won’t even…” I caught Amber in the middle of giving Viola some terrible, offensive advice, though she quieted down into a little giggle as I stared her down. “Sorry, were you ready?”

“…Yes. I need you to fetch something for me-“

“You’re not just going to put her in a sweater, are you?” Amber peered up at me. …It wasn’t like I had a fixation on sweaters…

“No sweaters. I promise.” Well, I did think about it for a moment.

What I needed was fairly simple: one thing I was sure Annie would part with, and if not, something we could pull together easily from my things if we had to.

After she hopped off, I got to work. With a spark of magic, a needle-thin pink field appeared around my finger, and I leaned in to work. Ditch the tie...slice away the top two buttons…Viola shifted as she stood, though her breathing steadied while I worked near her chest. …It was nice to know she trusted me.

(7/9)
>>
>>26715187
Amber was back with the last piece to the outfit (I hoped) faster than I expected, and I kept her waiting for another few minutes while I fussed with Viola’s blouse and her collar. I’d definitely need to adjust the fit on these later, or go full haute couture-

“Come onnn I didn’t go snooping around Annie’s Nobody Loves Me collection so I could watch you play with V’s boobs.” Viola stiffened up, and I pulled away with a small sigh before taking the crowning piece of sorts for the outfit – a heavy black choker with the Blessed Lady’s golden symbol lovingly hung from it.

It seemed…warm in my hands, like I could feel the Lady’s smile deep in my heart just by touching it, and I paused to study it. …It shone brightly – no, nearly glowed, even in the ordinary lighting of Viola’s room. I gingerly fastened it around her neck, and immediately, she reached for it, fingers tracing over every millimeter.

…Yes. Yes, this would be perfect. Even she seemed to like it.

Noriko is probably already an expert at running away and hiding in a hole by now.
>>
>>26715193
A few weeks later, Amber and I waved to Viola and the others as their plane took off, now en route to Mitakihara City. It had become increasingly common to…we’ll just say ‘creatively discover’ reasons to travel to Japan recently, due in no small part to the Prima’s fascination with Shibuya and Wendy’s newfound personal life. To my understanding, though, it had done quite a lot to build the relationship between our Officios, and that was indisputably a good thing.

…Even so, it was a little sad to see everyone disappear into the sunrise whenever they’d leave. Moreso than usual, I felt a bit like a mother sending her little girl off to school. Well, her first date, hopefully. That was sort of the same thing.

“M’lady~ Your private jet’s gassed up and ready to go!” Amber snapped a crisp salute as I glanced toward her, just barely forcing the grin off of her face.

“Oh, how wonderful.” I couldn’t help but beam, myself. With a sensitive girl like Viola, it was natural to want to walk her to school for the first few days, so to speak. Even if Miss Tomoe didn’t return her honest, innocent feelings, we would make absolutely certain she would have every chance to.

There is nothing to interpret there. You have written her to be obscenely powerful, terrifyingly sadistic, and nowhere near sane.
And I wouldn't have a problem with it, except that's exactly how everyone else writes her, everywhere, and it's all based on one line of dialog that is taken completely out of context and blown way out of proportion.
But like I said, keep writing. Despite my disappointment in how you chose to depict one character, the rest of your stuff is quite good.

Ponder potential writeups I would do if I were a writefag.
Lately I've been thinking about how the Great Depression and the Officios would have been related, and how I would write a story set in that time period.

In the end, we've only seen her from Wendy's perspective, and she beats the shit out of Wendy and the Springfields because they're some of her protegees, the girls she's training to take over the Officio in the murder capital of the world. And when it comes down to it, I'm not writing Yuuka, just like the protagonist of this quest isn't Homura. Does that help any?

I'm sorry this is apparently a sore spot for you, but I'm glad you enjoy the rest of my writing. Maybe I'll consider something that will show her off a bit better in other ways.

Yeah, timezones are a bitch. The other quest I follow regularly starts around midnight my time and ends in the morning, so I can't catch any of it pretty much (occasionally a vote or two at the beginning or end). It doesn't run that often so when I was studying up until the summer I got used to staying up until 5/6AM when it was on, but now that I'm looking for work I have to follow a 'reasonable sleeping schedule' and shit.

So far, I've decided that the twenties would have seen a shortage of magical girls that continued to decline alarmingly, and the Great Depression was actually the work of one Incubator or another to make it so that more girls are desperate enough to make a contract.
It actually worked much more effectively than anticipated because the economy was -already- headed for a sizable recession, and brought about a terrible glut of girls seeking to join the ranks, along with a lot of wishes for things like for their family to have money or not be hungry anymore.
And of course, whatever powers those kinds of wishes predispose a magical girl to, there would be an extremely high number of girls in that rank.

I'm so glad we're starting to get some good European-timed quests, personally. A quest running on PST can easily run from midnight to 8am my time, if the QM's running in the evening.

Just change it back. It's not difficult.
