Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You've learned that Lucifer, an angel second only to Sandalphon, is leading an excavation effort - and his goal is the very artifact you've set your sights on, the Staff of Winds. He's using Vonnegut's resources to accomplish this task as fast as possible, but his anxiousness to see it done created a rift between himself and the crime lord. You capitalized on that, earning Vonneguts allegiance and promising him access to your contacts, and to have him accompany you if you ever meet with the Black Lady, Queen of Vampiria.

Before Vonnegut could create his promised distraction, the earth split open - and the constructs of City 002 attacked in great force. You and your party managed to reach the inside of the excavation, and you discovered under the dirt was an airship once piloted by Flint's ancestors, long since buried after they fled from the skysever.

The ancient technology recognized Flint's touch, and began to power up once again. Poised so close to finding the staff, you decided to pilot the wind-driven ship through the storm of the skysever to reach the islands of Xile, the floating kingdom of Aeolus.

While your allies crewed the ship, you moved to the upper decks, where Lucifer was battling against a powerful robot powered by an earth dynamo. You were forced to intervene before the fight ripped the ship apart. Lucifer ignored you, for the most part, and your combined attacks destroyed the robot. You salavaged its dynamo core for yourself.

The ship entered the skysever, and, exposed on the decks, you were blown into the storm. You managed to fight your way through the winds and make it to Xile, injured, but in one piece.

You quickly ran across a strange abberation of darkness, powerful, but seemingly mindless. You evaded its attacks and made your escape. It briefly tailed you, then lost interest and let you go.

Meanwhile, the remnants of the airship made it through the storm, but promptly plummeted to the ground in a storm of smoke and fire. The resident dragon does not seem to have taken too kindly to the disturbance.

You reached the airship before the dragon, and managed to find your friends - but Flint was buried in the engine room. You decided to hold off the dragon while the others extracted him from the wreck. Abigail joined you, making a few summons to help you fight.

The dragon was strong - but you proved stronger. You managed to rip one of its wings off, and it spiraled into the barrier of wind that surrounds the island. You rushed back to the wreck.

Flint was safe, but he, Auriel, and the others were facing down Lucifer and a handful of his remaining angels. Vonnegut and three of his men were trapped between them.

Auriel and Lucifer had a brief, tense conversation - but neither were in the mood to fight. When Vonnegut voiced himself in favor of sticking with you and yours, Lucifer teleported himself and his troops away, somewhere else on the island.

With that battle put off for now, you were feeling a bit relieved - until Auriel pointed out that Abigail has still not yet returned.

Vonnegut's haughty calm slowly returns as he gets a grip - a confidence born of the fact that you faced down the dragon and survived. "No, Lucifer. I've got other plans."

"Excuse me?"

"It's like you said," the crime lord says. Now he's smiling. "Sandalphon isn't here."

Lucifer glances at Vonnegut, Auriel, and back. He narrows his eyes. "And that is what I get for hiring a thief." He gestures sharply, bringing a fist down into his body. "Don't regret it."

His angels move as one - obviously they're familiar with the command. Each one lays a hand on Lucifer. There's a spike of Lightning and Light, and they're gone, -moved- somewhere else. You're rather impressed despite yourself - you can't take people along when you Blink.

Auriel sighs. She looks ready to collapse. Adavan puts a steadying hand on her shoulder, and she sighs, then gets her feet back under her, nodding to him gratefully. "So...slimeball. You coming with us?"

"Humph. I'm not going with you. I'm going with Shadow."

You emerge from the trees. <I'm glad we were able to escape that unscathed. But now he could be anywhere, and with his speed, he could very well beat us to the Staff of Winds. Auriel...are you sure that was the right decision?>

She nods. "Lucfier was tired, but his tired could still wipe us out. Maybe not you..." She gestures back at the party. "I wasn't willing to risk 8 on 5, not in the state we're in. Someone would have gotten hurt. Or worse." She looks at Vonnegut. "Didn't think you'd throw him to the demons, though."

"He leaves much to be desired as a business partner," Vonnegut says shortly. "We should vacate the wreck. The dragon was bad enough - I don't want to meet the vultures that follow."

"...Abigail!" Auriel calls.

Flint cups a hand to his mouth. "ABIGAIL!"

His voice fades into the trees.

To avoid breaking the game I'm gonna have to rule that Water Recovery only works with natural bodies of water connected to lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. You need to be mostly submerged; a little stream might not be enough.

So I think I may have an idea to get past Lucifer's super speed and defense. From what Auriel said, he bends thing around himself. This means he's basically made himself into the eye of a storm of his own magic, a sort of current that redirects everything around him. When he wants to go fast, he just bends himself toward his desired location and bends anything that would slow him down out of the way. However, he isn't technically shielding his own body, he's shielding the area around his body. This makes him vulnerable to point-blank attacks and grappling if we can get into that gap(like we did with Bind). Normally not a problem for him because of his speed but we have a way of making sure he can't shake us. We can slip into his shadow.

No matter how fast he goes he won't outrun his shadow and as long as he's close or on the ground that shadow will be right up next to his body. And he will be on the ground because he can't fly on Xile. Furthermore, his own power helps this strategy even more. He bends the light around himself, and when light hits something and has to go around an area a shadow is cast in that area; he is literally casting shadows on and around him in vulnerable spots with his powers. Just blink and slip into those shadows. He can't do anything about it without leaving him open to the other's attacks.

Flint takes another breath.

You put an arm on his shoulder. <No. We should stay quiet. She has to be close by.>

"...sorry," Flint says. He frowns. "She's a smart girl, she'll have hunkered down. Uh...at least, she was."

<She's at least as intelligent as her uncle.>

"...I'm not sure if that reassures me or not," Flint mutters. Adavan chuckles.

Vonnegut clears his throat. His three men are still gathered behind him, clutching their weapons for comfort as if they were stuffed animals. They eye the treeline nervously. "Frankly, I think conducting a search in unfriendly and uncharted territory is the last thing we should be doing. We need to find a way back to the surface."

"I agree with your sentiments," Auriel says, "in one sense. Our priority should be a means of escape. We can push our luck with the Staff afterwards. But first, we find Abigail."

Vonnegut puts his hands on his hips. "This is life or death. One person isn't worth the - "

"Listen up, you thieving sack of lard," Flint snaps. "We're not doing a damn thing until we find her, precisely because this is life or death."

"My thoughts exactly," Adavan growls. The two men, knight and lich, look ready to tear Vonnegut's throat out at the implication that you abandon one of your own. They make an odd pair, but you're glad they're not glaring at you. Auriel gives Vonnegut a flat look, but she isn't outright angry; she's probably familiar with Vonnegut's more active sense of self-interest. Ila, perhaps from long habit, is silent. She stands just at your shoulder.

Vonnegut raises an eyebrow at the two men. "I suppose you're her knight in shining armor?" He gestures at Adavan. "And what are you, then, her pet skeleton? By the elements, Shadow, how do you stand breathing the same air as these fools?"

<I don't breathe,> you state.

>con't
>>
Auriel gives you a look. Ila smirks.

"...anyway," Vonnegut says, "I say we create some distance between us and the wreck and try to recover. I don't know about the rest of you, but I could sleep for a week."

"That makes sense," Flint says. "You don't look much for hard work."

"It's a waste of time and effort. You'll get us killed."

"I'd rather die from my own stubborness than listen to an idiot like you."

"You had better remember who you're talking to, Sir Flint."

Flint slowly draws himself up to his full height.

You change shape so often you hardly appreciate it, but he's truly a huge man - nearly six and a half feet tall with a chest like a barrel. He towers over the stocky, heavyset Vonnegut. But Flint doesn't say anything. He just stares.

Vonnegut is the first to break eye contact.

<My first goal is to find Abigail,> you say, trying to relieve the tension somewhat. Vonnegut opens his mouth, and you raise a hand. <And after that...as Auriel said, we'll find a way home, first.>

Vonnegut settles back, folds his arms, and nods. "...fine."

<Let's retrace my steps. She can't have gotten far.>

The group slips into the treeline. The party is quiet - everyone here has picked up that skill at some point or another, thankfully.

You move several hundred yards into the trees, back near where the forest was torn by the dragon's wind attack. At that point, you separate slightly, looking over the area for traces of Abigail's passing. Flint sticks next to you.

"Shadow."

You peer into the dark spaces between rocks, looking for footprints. <Yes?>

"...how long are we working with Vonnegut, exactly?"

<At least until we get off this rock.>

"Fair enough." He eyes you squarely. "The man's a criminal. He's killed a lot of people. We don't tolerate slavery in Arland. It's what separates us from the empire. In my opinion, he should be locked up for good. Don't trust him for a second."

You remember your promises to Vonnegut. You suppose there will have to be a reckoning at some point. <...I'll watch him carefully. Help me out with that.>

Flint gives you a firm nod, and turns his attention back to the search.

Ila's aura pulses in your senses - just a flicker - once, twice. A pause. And then a third time.

Flint looks up. "That's the signal."

You regroup at Ila's position. She points in a direction heading back toward the airship. "Here. She was trying to get back - but this slope. I think something must have happened." Ila crouches and indicates a track of dirt brushed free of leaves. "That's what it should look like if someone slid down."

You glance down a long, steep fall. <Let's go.>

You climb downward. It's slow going; your allies have to move carefully to avoid falling themselves. You can see why Abigail might have lost her balance. The slope presents little trouble for you, yourself.

What do you do?

>stick with the party. You shouldn't split up.

"We can't go too fast, Shadow, or we'll be in the same situation," Auriel says. "We don't have any backup to save us if something goes wrong."

An idea strikes you.

<I've got a plan.>

You extend shadowy tendrils out and clamp them around your companions.

"Please tell me we're not flying," Flint says. "Please!"

<Relax.> You stretch your body out into a flat dish, and load them all on top of you. Ila sits calmly, folding her legs underneath her. Everyone else stands and glances about, uncertain. <Hold on. Stay quiet.>

You let go of the slope and slide down at top speed, weaving between the trees. Flint visibly works to keep from screaming.

In a rush of leaves, you slide to a stop at the bottom of the slope. Everyone disembarks and takes a few moments to find their legs again. "Well," Auriel says. "That was interesting."

>you summon wisp
>you inform everyone of the abomination you encountered earlier

Ila points at a trail. It's half footprints...and half a dirt trail. It looks as if someone dragged their leg through the brush. "...I think she hurt her leg. But she was in a hurry."

"It wasn't that thing, was it?" Adavan asks.

"Let's move!" Flint says. He pushes ahead of the group. You sprint to take point.

<I'm going ahead!>

You Blink. You skip through the trees, and in a few instants, you find a ruined building.

Spots of Wind dot the inside of the building - Abigail's Spirit lingers in the back. They've got her surrounded.

And then you hear a roar.

You jerk your gaze up to the sky by reflex - but then you realize it's coming from inside the building. She summoned a dragon!

Wind and spirit magic flares. They battle back and forward. The Wind mages drop like flies.

Frustrated by a lack of entrance, you're about to simply burst through a wall when a snapping burst of orange Spirit-breath does the job for you.

The inside of the ruin is overgrown, crumbled by the pushing roots and branches of vines and trees. The bloody remains of several Wind mages are scattered about the room. Two more are still alive.

But before you can do anything, the dragon's claws swipe two of the mages together, crushing them like peanuts. Their limp corpses topple to the bottom of a old flight of stairs.

You rush up to Abigail.

Her right leg is broken, badly - but more frightening is her left hand. It's shredded. Fingers are twisted, bent. Blood from the wound is forming a pool on the ground.

She's pale, and breathing hard. She looks at you, then at her hand. "...I think hurt my hand. Wind...it hurts."

She has to be in shock.

You desperately drudge up the rest of your mana as you set yourself to Heal Abigail. Your Wisp vanishes.

Her wound scabs over just slightly. The bleeding stops.

>mana: 0/58

Abigail's face changes. "...hurts. Really hurts." She cringes, then bends over her hand and starts crying. "Shadow, please!"

<I'm going to get Auriel.>

"No, don't leave!"

<I'll be right back, I promise. Auriel will be able to heal you. Try not to move.>

"Ok." Abigail is clutching her arm to her chest. "Ok."

<Bite down on this.> You grab a nearby twig, fumble it a moment, then stick it in her mouth.

Abigail chomps down on it. Her stomach keeps clenching, as if she's about to scream, but she keeps stopping herself. Tears are running down her cheeks.

You turn, prepared to run faster than you've ever run in your life.

The dragon faces you. A steaming breath snorts out its nostrils.

<...Abby...is it under control?>

"...what? Is what?"

The dragon's lips open up in an ugly snarl. Spirit magic builds between long, sharp teeth.

What do you do?

You don't need to turn - you extend limbs from behind you and snatch Abigail off the stone. You wish you didn't have to move her, but you don't have much of a choice. You hold her tight to keep her as still as possible.

You sprint down the stairs as a rush of Spirit erupts from the dragon's mouth. Stone and ivy is flayed up off the ground as the stream of orange light follows your progress through the room. It cuts off.

The dragon attempts to follow - and it catches a low-hanging support beam right in the face. You dash out the hole you first entered.

A few moments later, and you run into your party members. <Auriel, she's hurt badly!>

"Set her down, quickly!"

You gingerly place Abigail on the ground leaning against a tree. Her head lolls to the side; she's unconscious. You support her with your arms until Auriel slides up next to her.

She mutters a few curses as she inspects the hand and the leg. "...you should have waited for me."

<She was losing too much blood.>

Auriel heaves a sigh, nods. "...you didn't set this." She taps the broken ankle. "It's healed slightly. And the fingers, too...whatever magic you have isn't subtle enough for this kind of work. I'll have to rebreak them, then heal them. At least she's out already. Donovan, get over here, I want your help."

Flint is already there. "...Auriel...can you handle this, right now?"

"Hold her ankle," Auriel says.

Flint does as he's told.

Auriel quickly moves her hands. There's an ugly mix between a snap and a crunch. Auriel pours light magic into the leg, and the skin wavers and sets itself. The odd lump created by the broken bone vanishes.

Auriel's breath comes ragged. She spends a moment collecting herself, then gestures vaguely. "The hand."

"Auriel - "

"The hand, Sir Flint. Don't tell me you're getting squeamish."

>con't
>>
Man. Morning SQ threads are pretty slow and quiet. Not sure if I find it peaceful or lonely.
>>
Flint grips Abigail's hand by the palm. Auriel works quickly, efficiently - as if she's done it many times before. You suspect she has. You try to ignore the sounds Abigail's fingers make as they're forcibly realigned. Wet twigs.

Auriel swallows, and creates a spell. It takes her longer. The sigil seems to be more complicated. The finer points of repairing a human hand likely demand greater finesse than you can muster. Soon, the magic pours out of her. Muscle knits and grows back over exposed bone. Flesh sweeps down and merges over that like liquid, then goes still.

Auriel sighs, and sits back. And then she falls over sideways, as unconscious as Abigail.

A roar comes from the building as the dragon leaps up out of the ruins. It hovers in the air for a moment.

<Abigail summoned that, but she lost control of it. Everyone stay quiet!>

You feel your allies suppress their auras. It's more difficult for Flint, being a Light soul, but his is already squashed by the parasite, and with Abigail and Auriel unconscious, they aren't exactly channeling magic.

Effectively, you're low-enough profile that the dragon doesn't notice you immediately. It decides to fly higher, probably for a better view.

That's the worst and last decision it makes.

The skysever erupts from thin air. Teal-green winds surround it in an instant. You see the torture faces twist in the wind, and hear the screams vibrating in your very being.

"...by Hyerpion's Light," Flint whispers.

The swarm of wind-borne souls shreds the dragon like paper. It's wings are ripped to pieces. It plummets to the ground. Before it gets there, half its neck is reduced to skin and bone, and its tail is simply eaten away.

<I'll be back. I might be able to extract some magic from that thing.>

Flint, still holding Auriel off the ground, glances up at the sky. "Don't be long, Shadow. We've got to find a safe place to hold out."

You get over to the landing site of the dragon's corpse. It's already half disintegrated, and going fast. You latch on and manage to squeeze a few drops of energy out of it before it vanishes.

>gained 2 mana (5/58)
>gained 1 HP (55/81)
>gained 1 EXP (14)

A presence makes you snap to attention. A Wind mage is at the edge of the trees.

It's the first time you take a good look at them. The man is bare-chested, but wears a long piece of clothing made of string and leaves to cover his legs. Feathers and more leaves are intertwined in a ring about his forehead, and a carved wooden mask covers his face. He stares at you through the eyeholes in the mask.

He glances up at the darkening sky, and then takes off into the trees.

Lucifer is here because apparently he figured out Fang's plan for the Staff of Winds or something going by his conversation with Vonnegutt,
>>
You decide to not push your luck and return to the party.

<Alright,> you say, <let's keep moving. This ruin might have been a good place to camp...but not after the fight. Too much attention.>

"Now you're talking sense," Vonnegut says. "Let's proceed."

You move through the forest. You decide to evade the lake, where you left the abomination. That's south from your current position. The airship wreck is just a bit east.

In the center of the island is the castle, which is where the first dragon made its roost. Far to the northwest is a city of sorts you remember spying from the air. You also noted scattered ruins and other buildings; perhaps one of those would be enough shelter to fend off the night and the elements.

Hmm, tough. City would be the obvious and best decision but I can't help but feel we'd run into the natives or Lucifer because they thought similar. Castle seems like a gamble since the dragon may not have been the only thing there.

You crunch through the leaves.

In the deep woods, night falls rapidly. It's dark, and quiet. Silence.

No birds, no bugs. They didn't survive here. No sounds but footsteps, and breathing.

>mana: 7/58

Suddenly, there's a break in the trees. You're hopeful - but those hopes are quickly shattered.

A huge gap in the ground stretches before you, a fissure in the earth. It's at least a good fifty yards across, and it stretches through the wood far to the east, and the west, a jagged crack chiseled by some giant. The darkness of the pit is absolute.

You think you notice something moving down there.

Vonnegut's men approach the edge. One of them leans over the gap, whistling. "Think it goes through to the bottom?"

Adavan peers into the crevice. "...powerful magic opened this up. Or lack thereof."

<What do you mean?>

<Well,> Adavan says so that only you can hear, <back in the day, we knew a bit about Xile. It was the logistical core of the enemy - it could move, you know. If there was one thing the Black Hand was useful for, it was intelligence. Anyway, apparently the island is lifted by magic - powered by some sort of engine. It's also held together by that same magic - a flat plane this big would just break off, like a piece of pie too long to hold in your hand.>

<I see. Think we could find that engine? Maybe we could move the island.>

Adavan shrugs. <Who knows? If the island is cracking, I doubt the engine is in good repair.>

You examine the crack yourself. An engine that can move this much mass...it must be powerful.

You see something move in the darkness.

>con't
>>
<Get back, now.>

Adavan doesn't waste any time in backing away from the edge of the cliff, but Vonnegut's men linger. "What? It's not like anything's - "

Smokey grey tendrils reach up and grab the ankles of the men. They're dragged over the edge of the cliff before they have a chance to scream. But you hear their wails as they fall. And then they're cut off.

Smoke rises from the lip of the crevice. It flows over the ground like a fog, shifting, pulsing. Searching.

Auriel and Abigail are still unconscious. You carry them both, so as not to burden anyone weaker; you're still faster than any normal human, even given the weight.

You push forward into the forest.

For a while, you outpace the fog without trouble.

But the sun finally sets altogether, and the sky goes dark. You feel the fog rapidly make up its lost ground.

"It's gaining on us!" Adavan shouts.

"I realize that!" Vonnegut snaps. He huffs and puffs as he pumps his arms. "We can't take to the air, because the air itself would kill us, and now this shit is coating the ground! Why did you people want to come here again?!"

"Shut up and keep running!" Flint says. "We ran into mages. Maybe it can't get inside buildings!"

<Flint's right. There must be some way to fend it off. Don't slow down!>

A peel of fog rolls in from the left, and the party cuts right to stay ahead of it. A figure looms in the deep darkness...a strange creature. Masked, like the thing you met before. Limbs hold lanterns...but they aren't friendly, cheerful lights.

You keep your distance from the creature. Flint and Adavan run in front of you, separating your vulnerable cargo from the immediate danger.

But the creature turns not toward you three, but Vonnegut.

One of those limbs stabs out, extending, snapping, and extending again.in a sudden rush.

Vonnegut brings up a shield of ice, but he isn't fast enough. The bony appendage slices him across the stomach. Vonnegut stumbles, but his ice smacks the limb away before it can do more damage.

You're about to go over and help him, but he brings a hand up to his wound. Ice freezes across his flesh, creating a patch that staunches the blood. He keeps running. He's tougher than he looks. Well, you learned that firsthand.

The creature does not pursue you. It wanders into the fog, and vanishes into the black.

The fog is gaining speed. It licks at your heels.

You grab Flint, Vonnegut, Adavan, and Ila, then hoist them up above your body. "Shadow, what are you doing!?" Flint shouts.

<I can run faster! Stop moving!>

Realizing the logic, Flint stops struggling. You manage to put a bit more distance between yourself and the grey smoke, but it peels after you, dogging you relentlessly.

At this point, you're keeping ahead of the fog. You're not sure how far you've gone - running through the dark forest, you've lost all sense of direction.

You think you're doing well, though, because it isn't gaining anymore.

And then another wave of the fog rolls in directly in front of you.

"Oh, shit!" Flint shouts.

You bank a sharp right, and sprint as fast as you can. The two banks of fog collide, and then rush in behind you, closing up like waves crashing on a shoreline. You're racing up a thin channel that is rapidly closing.

You see more of the creatures lingering in the fog. Copies of the masked creature, lingering, waiting. Other things, more indistinct, lift out of the smoke, then sink back in. Vultures waiting to strike.

You race faster. The pass of open ground shrinks rapidly. You seriously doubt you're going to make it.

Flint starts a spell.

<What are you thinking?>

"This is all Shadow, so...Light!"

Flint fires his spell. Snuffed by his parasite, it's a flickering, whimpering thing - a few flares of white light spit out from his hand and strike the smog.

But to your surprise, it leaps back, as if pained. There's just enough gap for you to make it before the wall closes behind you.

And then, ahead, on a small rise within the wood - a stone building. Crumbled, ancient, but if you're going to make a stand, it might as well be there.

You race ahead, and by the time you get to the rise, you see the true extent of the fog. It completely surrounds the hill, resting between the trees in every single direction. The dim, ugly lanterns flicker in the darkness like a thousand eyes, watching. Waiting.

Slowly, the building fog is rising up the slope.

You burst in through the front door, ready for anything. The ancient wood shatters to splinters. The stone is bare, and empty. The walls are tall, though punched through in places, but half the roof is gone. You're not sure if that's enough protection. You set your allies down.

"I'll make a barrier," Adavan says. "See if that helps."

"I keep an eye on that door," Vonnegut volunteers.

"More lights?" Flint says. "I don't want to attract attention, but it seemed to help."

"What about me?" Ila asks.

<Guard Adavan. Make sure nothing disturbs him.>

Flint peppers the walls with lights. Alone, they aren't much, but in short order, the place looks like it's decorated for Lightsday. The inside is brightly lit, a cluster of the bright spots lingers at the door, and more dot the roof and the walls. Eventually, he slumps, tired. "Gotta gather mana."

Yeah, hunger doesn't really fit with humanity.

Plus I'm of the mind that only shards that don't really fit thematically with what we've become should be converted.
Isolation doesn't describe us any more, and it came to us because of our humanity in the first place.
Unfortunate it got screwed out of it by a bad roll, but that's the game.

Hunger is still a strong part of us, and probably should be secured before we go off to eat any of the stuff this place has.

You use earthforge.

The stone of the floor and the earth in the ground melts under your command. Holes are plugged. After Flint adds a few lights just outside, the front door is sealed shut. You repair the roof. In short order, you're sitting in a stone bunker.

"...good as it's going to get," Vonnegut admits. "Shadow and Earth...that's an unusual combination, but useful."

<It is.>

"Shit," the lich mutters.

<What?>

"...the barrier isn't working," Adavan says. "I need more time to tailor something to this...whatever the hell it is. It's strong. Slippery. It's wafting through every layer. I can't block it."

<Then we'll have to make do. Everyone get ready.>

You stand in the center of the sealed ruin, huddled around the unconscious forms of Abigail and Auriel.

It's quiet but for your companions' breath.

And then you hear moans. Shrieks. There's a pounding on the walls. Something hard scrapes on the stone, sliding over the rock, searching for a weakness. The sounds tap and claw at every point around you. They seep through the stone, muffled, but constant.

"...goddamn," Flint says. "This is really bad."

"Thank you for stating the obvious!" Vonnegut shouts. He's half-angry, but his voice cracks midway through his words.

"...if we die," Ila says, looking at you, "I am glad to die free."

<Well, we're not going to die, so I suppose you'll have plenty of time to live free, too.>

Ila gives you a small smile. "Understood."

The sounds continue for a long time.

>con't
>>
>>26920880
Thing is, all of the shards are aspects of Erebus/our instincts to carry out the original mission.

Hunger is what wants to consume until we're at full power and then consume the world.

Silence is what only cares about our own existence and sees involving itself with the world as a risk and goes after fleeing children for the low-risk meal.

Isolation is the part of Erebus that wants to sit alone in an empty void for eternity.

And then there's Temerity, who is kind of the governing drive of all of them.

I consider them all kind of, well, wrong the way they are now. Not sure if Humanity is the best or only way to fix that, though.
>>
Slowly, the sounds fade.

Occasionally, there's a moan. A scratch. Something picks the rock, slides through the dirt.

But for the most part, it stops.

Flint visibly relaxes. "...I guess the lights did the trick?"

"Maybe," Adavan says. "I think we're safe for the moment. It seems made to catch things...not break into places."

Vonnegut slumps to the floor. "...I don't know how I'm going to sleep with those noises." He feels at the patch covering his wound. A bit of his own magic heals it for good, leaving the slight pink of new skin in a streak where his coat was torn. He adjusts his hat. "...it's been a long time since something made of Shadow got to me." He glances at you. "Exceptions notwithstanding."

I think it is quite the opposite.

The shards are perfect the way they are with Temerity as a sort of head shard and that this should be maintained with Humanity being a separate entity entirely as it already has helped shape our views.

Basically, we need to keep both sides separate from each other and seek a balance.

>>26921184

Also, it takes an extra roll, and we don't have the leeway to tempt fate right now.
>>
>>26921184
Why would we do that? Darkxis is perfect just the way he is
>>
>>26921107
There isn't really two sides here. There's just a bunch of shards of Erebus and a shard of Humanity that exists as it's own new thing. None of our other shards discriminate. Hunger sees everything as a meal and wants to devour it all. Silence sees everything as a threat to it's existence and doesn't want to be involved in it and Isolation is very much the same in that it wants to push everything away and be left completely alone. All of this stems from the whole "there is no peace between Order and Chaos" shit that Temerity and Erebus 1.0 were blabbing about. How are you supposed to make a balance with something that isn't really capable of compromise?
>>
You consider the situation.

<Adavan, I need to meditate. Can you keep watch?>

The lich nods. "It isn't like a need sleep."

You turn back to face Flint -

- and both he, and Vonnegut, are out cold on the stone.

Adavan adjusts himself into a more comfortable sitting position. "Some good things about losing my flesh, I suppose."

<...by the way,> you say. <Truly. Thank you for watching over Abigail. In Archon. And after Jacob's Field.>

Adavan is silent for a long time. "...your words caught me off-guard, back then," he says. "I remembered how I was a teacher. To be honest...at first, I thought I could raise Abigail. I could sense her potential. I'd make her a strong mage. Revive Hecate. I thought that, once you caught up, I could convince you to join us, especially after you saw how intolerant the other side is. A Shadow Elemental would be a powerful ally. I'd finally have..." He sighs. "Revenge, I suppose? I don't know."

<...if that was the case, what changed your mind?>

"...in traveling with the young Abby...I had plenty of time to think. I am a man out of time, Shadow. Aside from the angels, no one I knew is alive, and I don't really know any of them personally, anyway. Nothing I know is around anymore. The very landscape itself has changed. If not for my magic, I'd have trouble communicating. Everything...is different. The war that lasted my whole life is a memory. A legend. A horror, to be sure, but one that the world at large has placed in the past. Maybe sleeping for 700 years changed me...but the fire died. The thing that kept me going left me.

>con't
>meditation opportunity after talk
>>
"Maybe it was stupid, but I figured that if I could find a safe haven, then I could be a teacher - and I could teach Abigail not to make my mistakes. And maybe she could help heal the broken world I'd left behind. Magnock - did I tell you this? - he was like me, a servant of Hecate. He took a leaf from my book." Adavan snorts. "Never was a very original man. I met him, assuming he'd help me. He thought to kill me and revive Hecate himself, after ensuring she awakened to an empire of Spirit. Steal my glory. He, of course, didn't expect that the world had built itself back up with such strong opponents. Yi Fang is stronger than any Spirit mage I ever knew. Even Sandalphon seems greater than his old self, though I admit I only sense him at a distance."

<I didn't realize it went that far.>

Adavan nods. "I think that it was a wake-up call for me. I saw Magnock...and I saw a part of myself, corrupted. How far had we fallen, at the end? What lengths didn't we go to? This world...it's safe from those terrors." He glances to the stone wall of the quiet room. "...what's outside...this place...it's reminiscent of those times. Horrors beyond understanding. Magic run rampant, driven out of our own hands by our desperation. Chaotic. Too Chaotic. I think it is fine as it is - sealed off and forgotten. That's where the past belongs. In the past."

His choice of words strikes home. Too Chaotic.

<What about Hecate?>

"...she disliked the war itself. She fought to protect. I followed her for my own selfishness, at first, my own...revenge, I suppose. Maybe she changed me, too. Wore me down. All those long talks...heh. I miss her."

<I see.>

"...I'm sorry," Adavan says. "I'm rambling."

<Not at all. I'm glad to hear where you're coming from. I...have my own past to handle.>

The lich nods gravely. "While you were in the Archonium...did you learn anything about yourself?"

Planning to revive and conduct a plan that would see the world... gone. He arranged for Hecate to be sealed. For Leviathan too, and Geb as well. Not to save them. But to make them helpless. I faced the remnant of him in that place Adavan... and defeated him. Erebus will not revive through me. Bu there are others."
>>
>>26921423
Sure let's tell him. What could possibly go wrong.
>>
>>26921423
Tell him the truth.
>>
>>26921423

He shared with us about Hecate. I think we should be level with him too.
>>
But of course, we're going to tell him the truth telepathically on a secure channel, right? Won't want vonnegut hearing that.
>>
>>26921478
That's like keeping a wild dog on a chain and hoping it doesn't break free instead of actually trying to tame it.

I'm not saying we need to fuse them with Humanity, but we need to make an effort to get them to change somehow because as they are they are incapable of caring about anything that isn't themselves(ourself?). They're basically selfish desire, except since they're born from a being that wants to destroy everything and exist alone for eternity they're such an extreme version of it that they're almost not understandable in human terms.
>>
>>26921554

That should be obvious.
>>
>>26921423
>let Adavan in on the truth
I think it's time that we let more people know the truth, but we should also tell him how we've changed, and how the future is open to possibility.
>>
>>26921555

I think the problem is that these shards are still shards - not really a part of us, even after all this time.
>>
>>26921423
>let Adavan in on the truth
lichbro can be trusted
>>
>>26921652
Well, Erebus did do something to himself that broke apart the bonds between the shards in the process of sealing the Lords.
It's probably something we are going to have to recover in time.
>>
>>26921702
If I remember correctly, something else that was there broke when we consumed Darkxis. It may have been that. It also may be why Ellandra said she shattered us when we were already in pieces since she's probably the cause. Kind of bad to merge with a bunch of things that aren't really capable of caring about the world, after all.
>>
>>26921554

you can consider this confidential, yes

------------
------------

<...I did,> you say. <I am made of pieces of what used to be Erebus.>

"...what?"

<When Erebus destroyed the four Greater Elemental Lords,> you explain, <he activated power great enough to take them all down at once. This same power split him into shards - but he did this after arranging a method to piece himself back together. I am the culmination of this plan. Within me are several of his shards.>

"...then you're Erebus." Adavan shakes his head. "But you're not. At least, not anymore."

<No,> you say. <I'm something new, with my own mind, my own morality. I make my own choices. What was Erebus, is dead. But there are other shards, other pieces of myself left to gather. The world isn't safe while they're out there - they aren't as level headed as I am. They still follow the original directive. Recombine, and begin again.>

"Begin what, exactly?"

You can only shrug. <End everything.>

Adavan's eyes widen. "What? End the world?"

<Yes.>

"...well...why the hell'd he want to do that?"

<I don't know. None of my other -selves- remember, either. He seemed to be under the strong impression that chaos and order cannot exist together.>

Adavan thinks on this for a long time. "...all is shades of Chaos," Adavan mumbles. "Chaos. Order."

<What do you know about Order and Chaos?>

>con't
>>
"...once, Hecate told me something about the elements," Adavan said. "Something you had told her - the old you. She was the only thing you ever spoke to directly. She said you listened and offered her your words because, while she was a weak shade of chaos, from another point of view, she was a strong shade of order. What is less chaotic is more orderly, isn't it?"

<Did she realize that Erebus ultimately planned to destroy the world?>

"No," Adavan said. "No one realized that. He's a part of the world, isn't he? Why would anyone want to destroy everything?"

<I don't know,> you say, <but if he wasn't a part of this world - if he's just Order, and everything else is Chaos...and he thought that they couldn't mix...>

"Then he's enemies with everything," Adavan said. "I knew it. I was suspicious when Geb lost that battle. He shouldn't have, not with Erebus there...and then this odd plan to seal themselves up and wait - something was wrong." He looks up at you. "What are you going to do?"

<...I don't know.>

Adavan glances to the walls once more. "This place, Shadow...Xile. It shouldn't be exposed to the surface. The old world should stay where it is."

<...you may be right.>

Adavan falls silent, deep in thought. You decide to turn to your meditations.

You grab the shards once more. You can feel something there - something on the verge of your fingertips.

You bring Humanity close.

The fire rages against the jagged darkness. You hear a voice - Darkxis. The whispering of Hunger. The madden rush, a constant cry, a nervous salivation at the prospect of CONSUMPTION -

And the voice falls silent.

White fire flows over the shards of the shard. It coats them. They begin to merge.

It could go further. The fire could take it all.

You stop the fire.

It burns against you for a moment...but you push it away, and it settles back to your center.

The shard is completed.

The shard - the crystal - is like a wall. A white mortar of Chaos holds together bricks of Order. It no longer takes in the light within you. It reflects it, traps it, refracts it in a hundred ways at a hundred angles.

It is something new. Something different.

You hear a word, a single word. The voice reminds you of that old Darkxis...but it is changed. Settled. No longer erratic, but still ardent. Ardent.

<Ardor.>

Shards of Erebus:
(Isolation) - Normal
(Silence) - Empowered
{Temerity} - Empowered

New Shards:
(Ardor) - Strong
{Humanity} - Resonant

-----------
-----------

You open your eyes.

Adavan is at the wall, chipping a small hole with his knife. It's edged with Spirit. For a moment, you panic - but then, a beam of light shines through.

The sun has risen.

He eyes the hole he's made.

<What do you see?>

Adavan turns back. "Awake? Well...it's all clear. I dispelled Flint's lights." He settles in the middle of the room. "Vonnegut can gather water, but what are we going to do about food?"

You decide to scout out your current position.

<I'll be right back. Going to get our bearings.>

"Use telepathy if there's an emergency."

You Ink out the hole that Adavan made. The grassy hill looks calm and peaceful, but you can see a mass of scrapes and scarring on the outside of the stone. It's the only evidence of the night previous.

You climb on top of the building. It gives you a good view.

You made a surprising amount of distance in the night - you're over two-thirds of the way to the city. You're somewhat closer to the castle, but it's still far in the distance, floating higher amongst several scattered islands. You can see the edge of a giant crevice back to the east. Around you, the forest is quiet.

You notice something while climbing back down - a rabbit hole, and it has several occupants.

------------
------------

>HP: 55/81
>mana: 29/58

The rabbit is plain and gamey, but it's something. Flint cooks it with a bit of light magic, avoiding the need for a fire.

"Tastes like shit," Vonnegut says.

"Wouldn't know it from how you're eating it," Auriel mumbles. She woke up a bit after everyone else, tired, but alive.

"Ish only becash I'm stahving," he says. He munches it down, mouth wide open and chewing.

Flint neatly eats his food. "Do you have any manners at all?"

Vonnegut swallows. "Careful, Sir knight, your superiority is showing."

"I don't consider myself superior to anyone," Flint says. "Anyone but rotten criminals, that is."

"I'm a legitimate businessman." Auriel and Flint both snort. "Do you have any proof of my crimes? Any at all?"

"We had buckets of it back in the Ring City," Auriel says. "Get off your high-horse."

Vonnegut glances at you. "Well, not like that'll matter going forward, anyway." He turns back to his food.

It's then that Abigail awakes. She sits up, then winces.

>con't

"Child!"

"Abby!"

<Abigail.> You beat them all to her. <Abby, are you alright? How are you feeling? Are you hungry?>

Abigail rubs her eyes and smiles. "Jeeze, Shadow. Give me a little room."

<...sorry. Ah...we have food.>

She nods, then flexes her hand. "...achy. What happened, exactly? I remember when you showed up...and my hand...but it's just a blur after that."

<It's probably best you don't remember most of it. You were in a lot of pain.> You explain the events of the night to her.

"...my dragon almost..." She shakes her head. "I'm sorry, Shadow."

<It's fine. I'm just glad you're alright.>

"I guess I'll have some rabbit."

After a few more moments fussing over her, you allow yourself to relax. You sit in a corner and actively force yourself to give her some breathing room.

Auriel wanders over. "That really scared you, huh?"

<...yeah.>

Auriel smiles. "Finally settles it, then."

<Settles what?>

"You can't be Erebus," she says. "He didn't care about anyone. You can't fake that kind of honesty."

You feel a slight guilt at Auriel's ignorance...an ignorance that you could correct. But...now probably isn't the time.

"Anyway," she says, "my vote is for a recovery day. We're all still tired. We can rest up, make a plan. Get a heading."

You inform Auriel of the surrounding territory. <Any ideas?>

"...if there's any tech we could use to escape, the city's our best bet, but 700 years is a long time," she says. "Outsiders weren't allowed into Xile proper very often - they were relegated to the city limits, which is where the airship docks are. I've been there a few times." She knocks her head. "Those memories are a bit rusty, but I can at least keep us from getting lost. And then, there's the underbelly of the island. 'You'd think the water would collapse back, sealing up where the orb ate it - but it isn't. The water hangs open, as if turned to gel. And bits of shadow eat at it, devouring more, bit by bit, like a virus chewing up a lake.'

Bring up flint's magitech gene. It may be useful again.

We should also scout a bit, and deep focus to get an idea of things while NOT at our base camp.
>>
<What about the staff of winds?>

"...did anyone ever tell you about Aeolus?"

<What do you mean?>

"He took the form of a dragon," she says. "It's why dragons exist as a summon in so many forms. He was insulted by it, but summoners trying to recreate versions of his power didn't care. Creating a fully-fledged Elemental Lord from the energy of the nether was the holy grail of summoning.

"Anyway, he's the source of a few stereotypes you hear about dragons in stories. I respected him as an ally, but he was a greedy bastard. Proud, quick to anger. Rumor had it that his palace was a treasure trove. If the staff of winds is around, it's probably there."

<I see.>

"The problem will be finding anything that still works," she says. "The bottom of the island is likely our best bet if the city doesn't work out, but it's locked by blood magic...it's keyed into to Xilanders. Flint might just be able to do the trick. There are probably entrances in the city and the castle. Maybe another one in the forest, if we get lucky and find it.

She gives you a hard stare. "But Shadow...we shouldn't linger here. You've experienced it firsthand - this place is a battlefield, a little slice of the elementomachy. And this was after the lords died, when it all went to hell..." She closes her eyes. "Magic just kept escalating, growing until it raged out of control, killing indiscriminately. A terrible thing to expose to the surface. We should stay cautious."

<Understood, ma'am.>

She gives you a small smile. "Almost like I'm a captain again." Then she walks back to the others.

The forest is quiet. You punch a few window-holes so your allies can keep a visual of the surrounding space, not to mention have a little more light to see by. You hunt up another den of rabbits, and you even find a small deer. Vonnegut is able to freeze the meat, preserving it. Ila uses some nearby ivy to weave several satchels. That way, if you're somehow separated, everyone will have some emergency rations.

They all spend time gathering mana. You use your magic to heal Abigail, attempt to give her energy rather than mend anything in particular. Soon, you can hardly see the faint pink of the old skin. Auriel tells you that extensive healing drains the body's energy, too; it's a patch, and can't be replaced by real rest. You're glad you decided to take a day. When evening sets in, Abigail seems much better overall.

You wander back in after an evening trip, as the sun begins to fall low. You're not sure if the fog will return or not.

"Hey, Shadow!" Abigail calls. You walk over. "Look at this. I found it wedged under a piece of the old roof."

It's a rectangular square of metal. You take it from her, glancing over it. Your allies gather close to see what the commotion is about.

<It looks like it was made...but does it do anything?>

Can Ardor even be used for Consumption anymore? If it can't, it's fucking useless. I don't care what it gives as compensation.
>>
>>26923600

All shards have a sort of ability you activate, and grant passive bonuses based on how charged up they are.

Ardor has the same ability as Hunger, but different passives.

More meta can wait until we're done, though.

The device clicks open. You jerk back as lights play out from the metallic square. Everyone flinches with you.

But there's no pain, no rising magic. Just a little flicker of power. The light travels across the room and hits a ruined brick wall. It creates an image there - a man's face.

He's a bit breathless, as if in a rush. He stands against trees...and he's running foward. The forest moves and shakes behind him.

"...a camera diary," Auriel says.

<What's that?>

"Popular, way back in the day," Auriel says. "Rather than write a diary, you'd use the device to capture sound and pictures. It would - " She stops, because the man begins to speak.

His language is odd...archaic. Stilted, awkward. You Translate it without trouble, but the others bend their ears forward to interpret the man's voice. It's their own language...just 700 years old.

"Two days in," the man says. He gulps a few breaths. "First chance I had to open this thing up. We thought we were catching them by surprise, but they had something ready. Some huge wind spell like nothing we've ever seen. Took out at least half of us at the start, and that dragon they made ate a whole battalion. Command thought it was Aeolus at first...but he's dead. They're all dead, or locked up, now." The man glances up. He dives left as a slice of wind beams by his head. The camera clatters to the forest floor. It remains on long enough for you to see the tree felled by the magic drop. You hear shouting, and the sounds of magical blasts, and then it cuts out.

>con't
>>
"...did you see the silver patch on his breast?" Auriel asks. Everyone nods. "The Black Hand," she says. "He was in the force that attacked Xile, when the skysever was unleashed."

Vonnegut whistles. Ila seems thoughtful. Flint just looks awed.

You're about to pick the device up when it flickers back on again. The man is crouched in a ruined building. The glow of a fire is in the back. A few more men are huddled around it. The man holds the camera steady.

"Been about two weeks since last time," the man says. He appears haggard. Dark lines sit under his eyes. "...shit's gone to hell. Summons on both sides are out of control. We tried to do too much. That dragon's killing them as much as us. I heard it talking. I think it's master is dead. Well..." The man scratches his forehead. "Not dead...but in the spell? Alive enough that the dragon's still fine. Its magic is strong enough to - "

"Hey," one of the other men says. He sounds more than a little grouchy. "Turn that shit off, I'm trying to sleep."

The man sighs. He gets up and moves further from the fire, and settles in his own corner. "Anyway," he whispers to the camera, "we did a full circuit of the island. The barrier of wind is sitting around the whole thing. Anything that hangs in the air more than a good ten seconds gets chewed to bits...by that thing." The man shivers. "You can hear the screams when it comes out. I guess...not much more to say. More fighting tomorrow, probably. We saw an airship take off last week. It vanished into the wind. Don't know if it made it, but I figure we're going to try and take one from the docks. Lot of windies down there, though."

The camera flicks off.

Then back on.

>con't
>>
You see a partiel view of Xile out a smashed window. The camera turns, and faces the man, who is seated in front of the window. "Well...dragon got to the airships before we did. Couldn't find one still intact. We're stuck on the upper half of the island; paths to the lower half are sealed by blood magic. It rejects outsiders. We found that one out the hard way." The man sighs. "...fucking hungry."

The camera turns off.

And then back on.

The man is hunkered low over the camera - his nose is an inch from the screen. He over his shoulder, then back. You recognize the roof - it's the roof of the building you're standing in. A few hundred years less overgrown, but the same place.

"...been a month and a half," the man whispers. "We're almost out of food. They don't say it, but that's how it is. We don't even really fight with the windies anymore, but they keep sending groups of us on missions - groups too small to suceed. They're suicide missions. Command's getting rid of people. Less mouths to feed.

"But...there's been some dissapearances. The Second is getting rid of people he doesn't like. I don't know what they're doing with the bodies." He swallows, hard. "Sometimes...I think they're - "

You see a flicker of movement. A jagged piece of black steel punctures the man's throat. Blood spills over his torn, dirty clothing. His neck convulses in a wet, ugly, cough, and then he slumps forward, dead. Something black and foggy rises up out of his body and sinks into the metal...and it's withdrawn back into the shadows.

A hand reaches in. The camera flicks off.

>con't
>>
"...Hyperion's Light," Flint murmurs.

"Who's the Second?" Ila asks.

Auriel sticks her thumb at Adavan. "Ask him."

Adavan clears his throat. "The Second was Legion's - ah, David's - second in command, within the Hand," Adavan says. "I would assume he took over after David was killed."

"What the hell was he doing?" Flint says. "What happened here, exactly?"

"I don't want to know," Vonnegut says. "But I know we need to leave as soon as possible."

What do you do?

>leave the bunker
>reinforce the bunker; spend the night, then leave during the day
>examine some part of the diary more closely
>something else
>>

This part:

>Something black and foggy rises up out of his body and sinks into the metal...and it's withdrawn back into the shadows

Use analyze.
>>
>>26923731
Examine the part when something foggy comes out of his body, I'm assuming it's his soul, being prepared for blood magic ritual. Bet that's how the monster was made.
Probably reinforce some shards during night, leave at daybreak.
>>
>>26923779
This. My guess is the Black Hand is responsible for that huge gap in the island, and the figures in the fog are the spirits of the dead soldiers.

You peer at the video. Auriel does something that makes it happen in slow motion. The gruesome scene plays itself out again.

The metal thrusts forward. The man dies, and something goes into it.

As to the nature of the magic, you're still in the dark...

...but you recognize that metal. Or rather, you recognize what's on it - the glyphs imbued with shadow.

Vonnegut stares at the video. "...that's a shard of the Moonsong."

You exchange a pointed glance with Adavan.

"The Moonsong," Auriel whispers. She shivers. "What a terrible weapon that was. To think they could even use its pieces..."

<You know about it?> you ask her.

"Know about it?" she says. "I barely avoided getting -erased- by it!"

<What happened to it?>

"It broke when David died, before the annihilation event," she says. "He tried to take on Hyperion. He escaped, but his sword didn't - not in one piece, anyway. We never found the remains." She frowns. "...if the Black Hand had them...well. Explains this magic a bit better. The shard itself is acting as a core to stabilize the spell's sigil and handle all that power efficiently. Just conjecture...but I can't explain why it would last 700 years, otherwise."

You think back to where you found the shards. In Hecate's resting place...a tomb under dwarven ruins...and now, in the hands of the Second, apparently. The Black Hand took the shards and scattered them about. Sealed them away...or used them for new purposes.

One of the shards is here, and it's at the center of this spell of darkness.

It's a force of destruction, and it should stay up here."

<But - >

"Nope!" she says. She slaps her hands on her sides. "Don't even start!" She tosses the diary at you, then walks off.

You feel the other three shards of the sword resting heavy in your satchel. Well...what she doesn't know can't hurt her. Right?

Then again, maybe you should rethink the whole ancient evil sword thing.

GOOD QUESTION

>>26924269

It was a long week, let me tell you, but my bank account is very happy.

Hunger gave you certain passive bonuses. Ardor gives you different passives.

I can't really give you specifics without giving things I want to keep under my hat away...if you use Ardor in a certain situation, it might have a new effect. It's a situational thing, now.

>>26924299

Glad to be back, anon.

I think I'm moving toward deciding on a plot. It's going to be totally ridiculous and larger than life. After the crunch of SQ I think I'll just cruise in Edgy Quest and play it by rule of cool/rule of funny/rule 0.

So we're going to use Ardor on Joey to turn him into the Robin of our Batman?
Coolio SM, great suggestion there.
>>
>>26924388
So do summons have to be this living moving thing or could you create items out of the nether too since it's all just imagination?
>>
>>26924312
>The turnout of this thread was interesting.

On that note, it was rather nice to have fewer-than-average people. When there's too many voices, I think everyone feels drowned out, so everyone shouts louder and gets shorter with each other. I enjoy having a large audience, because you get a lot of interesting opinions, and there's more heads to think of things I didn't, which adds a lot of depth. But there's the arguing, and the namecalling, and it does get tiring.

>>26924440

I finally put Joey somewhere. He's waiting, out in the world.

You'll run into him eventually...probably. No certainties when /tg/ has the rudder.

As much as I really want to keep it as much a secret as possible, maybe telling Auriel about it some time soon would be smart. Lest it be revealed by someone else at a bad time and she has a panic attack or something.

Yeah, just gonna keep summons and enchanting as separate things.

time to invent some bullshit explanation real quick

You see, the magical construct that is a summon is actually more unstable than a solid item that could be made from the nether. The construct can handle the energy. Enchanters have tried harnessing nether energy for their efforts, but it simply doesn't stick to objects in normal physical reality.
