Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are LUCAS WILLIAMS, a student in the Sturmfuhrer Academy and currently enrolled in its elite TIER ONE Program. You've already got your little squad together and ready, but you've run into a bit of a problem. This "teambuilding" exercise you're currently on is less "teambuilding" and more "oh god everybody is out to get you". More specifically, you teachers probably found it amusing to make everybody gang up on what was presumably the most powerful team. Yours.

Well, this was going to interesting, at the very least.

"So yes, it seems like our team has been set up to fail, or at least, see if it can withstand overwhelming odds." Edwin finishes with a grin.

"You seem awfully happy about this." You point out.

"Why not? It shows that our team is worth the effort to cheat against. It's almost flattering, really."

"So what do we do?" You ask.

"Well, you're our leader. That's your job to figure out." Edwin frowns.

You sigh. "Okay, Edwin, because of your superior tactical acumen, can you please give me suggestions on how to proceed?"

"Well, if you put it that way..." Edwin smiles. "There's the easy way, and there's what you'd consider the 'right' way. Do you want to end this mission as quickly as possible at any cost, or do you want to try and preserve as many lives as possible?"

Also, guys, finished writing up Sparky.

What do you think?

NAME: Marisa "Sparky" St. Germain
GENDER: Female
CLASS: Lancer
PERSONALITY: Mischievous, upbeat, and something of a kleptomaniac. Marisa prefers the most direct and straightforward solutions to her problems and possesses a reckless love for large amounts of firepower, particularly explosions. Likes mushrooms. Especially likes mushroom clouds.
BACKGROUND: The only child of an Osean merchant father and an Ustian mother. Marisa tended to be a bit of a wild child growing up, being kicked out of a dozen schools for "borrowing" the property of her classmates (they can have everything back when she was dead!) and executing a relentless deluge of pranks. Everything however changed for her when her uncle Vincenzo “Vinny” suddenly returned, seeking a reunion with his sister and her family after his mysterious years-long disappearance in the chaotic aftermath of the Second Europan War.

Now wealthy after the intervening years he had been away (of which the only thing he had revealed about was that he was employed by the eccentric Emmerian millionaire Preston B. Whitmore), he quickly reconnected with his family, developing a bond with his young niece Marisa in particular. A demolitions expert who had fought in the war, he recognised that his niece had the same talent for explosives as he did. Encouraging her talent (and warning her to keep it away from her parents), he eventually approached her father on the topic of sending her to military school to make full use of her talents.

Exasperated and disappointed with his daughter’s antics, who he had hoped to follow him into the business, he quickly agreed, hoping that it would sort out Marisa’s numerous disciplinary problems. With her uncle’s patronage as a former veteran combat engineer along with his wealth, Marisa was accepted into one of the most prestigious military academies in Europa, Sturmfuhrer Academy. There, despite her inevitable disciplinary problems, she thrived, mostly because of her talent for anything involving absurd amounts of firepower. Deciding to keep to a life as a soldier to keep access to her precious stock of highly powerful and unstable munitions, she continued on to the Tier One program, where she is determined to prove herself as one of the best in the art of making shit blow up.
MISC: Possesses a strange, glowing ragnite-like crystal necklace given to her by her uncle Vinny as a good luck present. What secrets does it hide?

"Let's treat this like a real mission, okay? No reckless actions just because we know its an exercise." You say firmly. "Let's do this the right way."

"I figured you'd say that." Edwin nods. "It's the same general plan we have now. First, we have Falynn jam all radio comms to keep the other teams from being able to coordinate. Then we start luring them in piecemeal into the killzone. Simple as that."

"And what if they another group stumbles in?"

"Let me handle that." Edwin says.

"Okay." You nod and turn to Falynn. "You can jam all the comms in this area, right?"

"Of course I can." Falynn pulls out your squad's radio set. "Problem is that we won't be able to use our radio, either. If you're going to say something to the others, you better say it now."

"Got it, thanks." You activate your radio and link with Lucina and Charlotte. "Lucina, Charlotte, we have reason to believe the other teams are ganging up on us. The plan is to cut off comms to prevent them from coordinating and we take out piece by piece. You two are going to have to coordinate with each other and us through verbal or line of sight means."

"Got it." Lucina responds.

"Roger!" Charlotte affirms.

"What do we do about these two groups, then?" Lucina then asks.

Have Lucina pull a third group over to the other group. When the groups are just barley in line of sight of one another, have her or someone fire a few shots at both groups. Hopefully they will panic and begin firing on each other, as communications will be down at that point.

"There are five total, not including us. That puts it at about 40 vs 9."

"Not very good odds." You frown.

"Yeah, for them." Edwin has that smug smile again.

"Cutting comms!" Falynn announces.

And now all there is to do is wait.

Seconds later, you hear a flurry of automatic fire in the distance. Presumably, Lucina was off doing her thing. However, more gunfire starts barking from a different direction. Presumably Charlotte found a new group to lead into the trap.

Sure enough, you see Charlotte and Mary-Kate burst out from the brush, sprinting to your position at full speed. Quite a distance behind them is Runaround, who obviously wasn't quite as good a runner as he was a driver.

"Enemies incoming!" Charlotte pants as she slides into cover next to you. Mary-Kate and Runaround likewise take up defensive positions.

"How many?" You ask.

"At least four. Well, four when we spotted them. At least three, now." Charlotte says, reloading her assault rifle.

Sure enough, you can hear shouting and rustling as Charlotte's pursuers begin to approach.

You all hold position, waiting as the enemy approaches, fingers on your triggers.

Unfortunately, nothing happens. You were kind of expecting the other team to charge full speed into the clearing, but then again that was probably wishful thinking. However, there's another rustle, and you see a single figure poking their way through the brush. Not close enough to compromise your position though.

"A scout." Edwin points out. "Should've figured they'd be too smart to run into an ambush blindly."

"So what do we do?"

"Simple." Charlotte butts in. "Take out the scout!"

"Not so simple." Falynn chimes in. "Taking out the scout will pretty much tell them we're here anyways."

"Wait, isn't Morgan here? I thought he had a suppressed rifle?" Mary-Kate points out.

just spectulation here

Lucas' position as leader will cause strife between him and Edwin.
Edwin, the son of the head of the belkan knights, is subordinate to a lowly darcien half-breed, the offspring of his father's former squire no less.

he may require "friendship" building activities

You turn to where you're pretty sure Morgan is hiding out. You don't quite see him, but you just point in the scout's general direction and slice your finger across your throat, the universal sign for "get rid of that guy".

You see a brief flash in one of the trees, no doubt Morgan reflecting some sunlight off his scope. Satisfied, you return to your position manning your .30 cal. Meanwhile, you can dimly hear Mary-Kate pestering Charlotte and Falynn about how pretty they look in combat gear, and whether they could arrange for her to meet their parents. Normally, you'd tell her to quiet down, but even a standup guy like you found some enjoyment in petty revenge.

Meanwhile the enemy scout draws ever closer.

Even suppressed, a rifle still made quite a bit of noise. You can distinctly hear a sharp puff sound as a paint round zips through the forest. However, the shot's way off target. Hopefully it was because Morgan wasn't used to working with paint rounds. You heard that a lot of snipers hated working with nonlethal ammo because they had significantly different flight characteristics from regular rounds.

The rustling in the brush stops for a brief second. You're sure the scout has figured something was up, now.

Morgan fires again. It's a bit closer this time, but still a clear miss. The round ricochets off a tree, and if that scout didn't realize what was going on, he did now. More frantic rustling suggests that he's bolting back to his squad.

"Not good." You grimace.

"Come on! Let's blow em all to hell!" Sparky says, readying her lance.

"Not wise." Edwin shakes his head. "We have no idea where the rest of the enemy team is, and we don't have a scout to find them for us."

You get the odd feeling Edwin is glaring at you, as if it were you fault.

>Stay put, let them come

The lead scout only confirms one position of base of fire. It's likely the enemy will focus on that and expose themselves to possible enfilading fire from your position.

If we fire now, they'll return fire and go to ground in defilade, drawing out the firefight and opening ourselves up for a wide flank. We best wait until they're exposed. This means Morgan's gonna have to be bait in a quickly untenable position if we don't open fire at the right time to pin the opposing squad down. But I think Morgan can take it.
>>

Well, this whole plan went bad really really fast. You consider opening fire but decide against it. After all, the only person who exposed their position here was Morgan. As far as that scout knew, there was only a sniper out here somewhere.

"Well, this is partly beneficial to us." Edwin nods. "They'll be out looking for Morgan instead of us."

"So we're just going to leave him out there on his own?" Charlotte scowls.

"Of course not! We'd be wasting perfectly good bait."

Charlotte's eye twitches, as if she's about to deck Edwin in the fact. You swiftly get between them to prevent that from happening.

"That's a pretty callous thing to say, Edwin." You frown.

"Why not? Morgan's not pulling his weight and is dragging this squad down. Dead weight either needs to prove itself useful it needs to be cut loose."

You really, really dislike how Edwin can be so condescending, yet have a perfectly good point at the same time. You're almost willing to let Charlotte deck him. Heck, YOU might do it yourself!

"Guuuuuys." Mary-Kate whispers. "I think there's movement!"

Sure enough, you see the brush and tree rustling as a LOT of people start filing through the forest. In fact, they're passing by your position and heading straight for Morgan's. You see the sniper's scope flashing in the trees again, a bit frantically.

"It's time to move in." Edwin says. "We either go in now or not at all."

You nod. The tension was getting to the point where it was gnawing at everybody's nerves. If you kept holding them back something bad was bound to happen.

Deciding that any good leader should lead from the front, you pick up your .30 cal, ready to fire it on the move.

"Edwin, Sparky you're going to start things off. Start dumping frag lances into the forest until me and the others reach the treeline. Then watch our backs and make sure nobody tries to flank us."

"Affirmative." Edwin nods. Probably happy he gets to sit back in relative safety.

"Roger roger!" Sparky grins, pulling the safety pin out of her loaded lance tip.

"All right, Alpha Team, move out!" You yell.

Edwin and Sparky start off with their opening salvo.

Edwin's frag lance plunges right into the middle of the enemy formation, while Marisa's lance veers off target midair and slams into a tree before it can do much. Edwin's lance tip then explodes, showering the forest and people around it with brightly colored paint.

It's then that you walk forward with your MG and let loose. At your flanks, your squadmates start unloading with their assault rifles as well.

Meanwhile, the the rest of your squad is calmly moving forward, keeping pace with you and being more selective their their fire, but shooting rapidly nonetheless.

So far, there doesn't seem to be any return fire, meaning you've either got them perfectly suppressed or you've pretty much "slaughtered" the whole team.

Unfortunately, you can only confirm one solid hit, as one of the advancing students take a round to the chest and tumbles down the hill in surprise. However, your suppressing fire achieves its objective and the rest of the students, suddenly confronted with a heavy MG, dive for cover or retreat back over the hill. You back away and try to make your escape back to the ruins.

"We got lots of bad guys incoming!" You yell as you exit the trees and through the clearing, making sure to hope over the hidden mines and tripwires Falynn had planted.

You roll into your previous position and start to reload your gun, ejecting the current belt and loading in a fresh one. You've only got one more box of ammo so you've got to make this count.

Not us personally. We have 3d20 if our fallback was anything indicative. Plus Charlotte's dice.

So, I'm guessing 5d20 or 6d20 tops. Maybe more if being stabilized gives us more shots.
>>
>>26950678

Pin down the lancers first. Any defensive position is fighting a losing battle against indirect fire. Pin them down, or eliminate them, and they'll have to close. Then we work on the shocktroopers, which we can keep at bay for a while with rifle fire for a while. Their goal is to close and engage, so anything that prevents them from going into grenade range will effectively minimize their danger.

The engineer offers little threat. Consider him or her comb ineffective until he gets his head off the mines and into the firefight.

With your braced position, your gun roars as it spits bullets at the exposed troops. One of the lancers takes nearly a dozen hits to the chest before falling over, causing his comrades to dive to the dirt to get out of your line of fire.

Which just leaves them sitting ducks for Charlotte. Two quick bursts and the shocktroopers are neutralized.

That only leaves the lancer and the engineer, you frantically return fire.

"Honesty, I thought it would be a bit more of a challenge." Charlotte sighs. "But, we won ,and Edwin's the only casualty, so that's an A-grade mission!"

"Hmph." Edwin grumps.

Making your way to the back of the ruins, you see you four remaining squadmates all intact. It seems that they've handled their sector pretty well.

"Falynn! What happened here?" Charlotte asks, hugging her sister. "Looks like you went through a real number!"

"Well, Sparky here pretty much smoke them all with a lance shot." Falynn replies quietly. "Mary-Kate actually got hit in the head, but the funny thing is the paint round didn't break, so technically she wasn't "killed"."

"Holy crackers." You whistle. "Are you okay, Mary-Kate?"

"Yeah, I've had worse!" Mary-Kate laughs, though that rather large red bump on her forehead suggest otherwise. "Maybe if Charlotte or Falynn could kiss it..."

"Not happening." They both say instantly.

"We're actually running low on ammo." You frown, checking your last box. You were already halfway through the last belt. "I don't know how much we can keep this up. I hope Lucina's fine..."

"Guess you can ask her yourself." Runaround points behind you.

And right there is Lucina, looking as if she had just come from an afternoon stroll.

"Hey!" She smiles. "How have you all been doing?"

"Oh, you know, barely fighting off three entire squads. Down to our last legs." You sigh. "So how long until the other two squads get here?"

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Lucina blinks.

"You were leading them around, right? When are they going to get here?"

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Lucina gasps. "I got kind of carried away and..."

She reaches into her pack and pulls out a bundle of sixteen dog tags.

"But still, you took out three squads to my two, so I guess you still won!"

"I.... what...uuuhh.....nevermind." You sigh, dropping down to take a seat.

"I suppose this means the teachers will come to pick us up now." Charlotte says.

"Hey... isn't somebody missing?" Falynn asks.

"Hey, that's right. Where's Morgan?" Sparky asks.

Or more depressingly, we just don't find him and we stay in the APC and have a long, silent trip home.
>>
>>26952931
That's a common figure of speech in English. Have you never heard it before?
>>
>>26952944

We should complain about paint rounds on the ride back, and mention something about if it wasn't for the nature of our most dakka machine gun we probably wouldn't have hit anything. only for Lucy to say it's not that big a deal and make him feel worse.
>>
>>26952923
True, but you can also argue that failing to do so also shapes our main character's personality and their perceptions of the world.
>>
I seem to remember Alek starting off with some weak shots too.

and then he shot Elsa in the shoulder and the rest is history

I really hope we don't detonate an explosive, injure ourselves with no squaddies able to find us, and the only one capable of finding us is Morgan.

Truth be told, you didn't actually have the first clue on where to find Morgan. Now that you think about it, you probably should've asked Lucina for help or something. She was good at this sort of thing. Well, you concede that there were just some battles you couldn't win.

By the time you return to the ruins, you see the teacher have finally arrived with the trucks, and the students are slowly filing into the vehicles.

You spot your squad and link back up with them. With the look on your face, they don't even have to ask how things went.

"Alright, kids, class is done for today. Think long and hard about what you did right, what you did wrong, and how you could have done things better." Simo says, pacing along the line of trucks. "Full debriefing will be first thing tomorrow morning. DO NOT miss it!"

And then you see Morgan appear, though he makes a beeline straight for Simo, still clearly crying. Simo sees Morgan approach and sighs. Resignation? Annoyance? Pity? You can't really tell from this distance.

Question: Our mom was a Demon, so did she ever tell us the story of how the legendary Aleksandr was a full-retard terrible shot until he got laid?

Because that story might be relevant to raising morale, and also humorously awkward if it turns out Morgan is also secretly their kid.

"Cover me guys, I'm going in." You say. You quietly slip out of the truck, and slowly make your way over to where Simo and Morgan are talking, careful to stay out of their sight, and using the sound of the trucks' idling engines to mask your approach.

That story seems more like a "your father's away on business and I'm being drunk and mopey and sad so I'm just gonna lay in bed and tell you stories from when I was a youth" sort of story.

Fortunately, they don't notice your approach, and you manage to get close enough where you can overhear their conversation, or at least a bit of it.

"Hey, what's wrong, Morgan?" Simo asks, his voice obviously tinged with concern.

"Simo, I-I really s-s-screwed up!" Morgan blubbers, still wiping tears from his eyes.

"What?!" Simo's eyes narrow. "Did you accidentally tell them anything?"

"N-no, nothing like that!" Morgan whimpers. "I j-just, did so badly today! I d-didn't hit a single thing!"

"Ah..." Simo's shoulders sag in relief. He was obviously worried about something else. "You just had an off day, okay? It was kind of unfair for me to suddenly force you to use paint rounds and expect you to compensate. If it's any consolation, none of the other snipers did any better either."

"R-really?"

"Yeah, really." Simo grins and ruffles Morgan's hair, and you can swear you can see him blushing slightly. "Now get back to your squad before you start making THEM worry."

"Y-yeah, okay." Morgan rubs the last few tears out of his eyes.

It's at that point you feel you've got to bug out. You quickly dash back to your truck and manage to beat Morgan and Simo there.

"Good job, Alpha Team." Simo says after Morgan gets in and takes a seat. "I did sort of expect you to win, but not with such flying colors. But don't get confident. I'm the NICEST teacher you'll get in Tier One, and Instructors Tarin and Ramirez still have their shot at you all."

With that, Simo pounds his fist against the side of the truck, notifying the driver it was time to go. In a few short minutes, the whole convoy rolls off, returning to the Academy. Already, you squadmates are trading stories, compliments, and barbs as the adrenaline starts working its way out of their systems. However, you're left sitting there and wondering.

What was that whole thing between Simo and Morgan about?

That's when you're suddenly ambushed by a very long yawn. Well, you guess that should be something to worry about tomorrow.

Waitaminute, waitaminute, wait a goddamn minute.

Morgan's a gender neutral name?
>>
>>26953909
We can still totally BEFRIEND a girl. Might make Lucina and/or the Sturmfuhrer twins jealous, but...
>>
>>26953932
I knew like 4 girls named Morgan in university, so...yes
>>
>>26953935
Well yeah, its gonna happen either way no doubt about that, I'm just not sure how I feel about a possible actually-a-girl-all-along reveal hanging over our heads.

Not that I'm necessarily against it, but if Morgan turns out to be a girl that leaves the gender split on our team WAY in favor of women. Our only bros will be Runaround and that dick Edwin. And Lucina too I guess, since she seems to have honorary bro status, not to mention she seems more murder-sexual than anything.
>>
>>26954000
too soon to say really about Lucina
>>
>>26954000
Well, even in VMQ1 our team was a bit female-heavy at first as well. We didn't pick up The Stig or Headcase until towards the end
>>
>>26954000
It's partly because I seem to have more a preference to write female characters over male ones. Or at least I feel more comfortable with it. I dunno it's kinda a weird quirk of mine.
>>
>>26954036
It also seems that /tg/ has a knack/preference for female characters to go alongside yours. Hell, the write-in characters were 2 to 1 Female to Male
>>
>>26954036
Fair enough then, I'd prefer a well-written group of mostly females to a more balance but less well written one.

Carry on.

Reverse traps are my fetish anyway.
